The Seven Trumpets

[Music] [Applause] [Music] well i want to welcome you back to this program and today we're going to get into a teaching that is rarely heard and yet it needs to be first of all god placed it at the back of the book the bible and that would be the book of revelation and we're going to be looking at chapters 8 and 9 which is all about the seven trumpet judgments of god that are forthcoming upon the earth and and we're gonna walk through that we're gonna explain it but it's all about god's judgment you know today we live in an age where people talk all about social justice and they want justice and justice this and justice that listen i get it but the god of the bible is the only one who can exercise true judgment and justice and he's going to do it and he's written about it in the bible what's funny about our hypocritical age is everybody talks about justice and judgment but when god shows you his nobody wants to hear about it well listen we're going to be cracking open our bibles revelation chapters 8 and 9 and we're going to be looking at god's judgment upon the earth during the tribulation period who are going to who will be the recipients of that judgment why does it need to happen and why must it happen in a world in which we live in god is just god is fair god is holy so grab your bibles revelation chapter 8 and chapter 9. [Music] if you take notes i'd ask you to write down matthew chapter 24. and let me read it to you if you turn there that would be great but in your margins of revelation chapters 8 and 9 if you write down matthew chapter 24 they parallel each other to some degree matthew 24 then jesus went out and departed from the temple and his disciples came up to him and the buildings of the temple and jesus said to them do you not see all these things assuredly i say to you not one stone shall be left upon another that shall not be thrown down. now verse 3 says as they sat opposite on the mount of olives the disciples came to him privately saying tell us notice three things tell us when will these things be number two what will be the sign of your coming and i think the third question is very insightful and of the end of the age when the world ends what's that's going to be like what will be played out and jesus answered and said to them take heed that no one deceives you that's the first warning not the interpretation of daniel's ten toes or some angelic manifestation jesus says watch out you're not deceived that's the most important thing for many will come in my name saying i am christ and will deceive many and you will hear of wars and rumors of wars see that you are not troubled for all these things must come to pass but the end is not yet for nation circle that the word is ethnos for ethnos will rise against ethnos ethnicities will war against ethnicities race riots will ensue kingdom against kingdom that's political realms will battle political realms and there will be famines pestilence and don't think for a moment really that coved is one of them that's nothing i know cnn would say it's a pestilence listen covet sunday school stuff compared to what's coming earthquakes in various places all these things are the beginning of sorrows this message is intended to cheer you up tonight then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake and then many will be offended and will betray one another we'll hate one another and then many false prophets will arise and deceive many and because of lawlessness will abound the love of many will grow cold i think that's happening now but he who endures to the end the same shall be saved and this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all nations and then the end will come now jesus gives us a profound insight therefore when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by daniel the prophet standing in the holy place whoever reads let him understand then let those who are in judea flee to the mountains and let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house and let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes verse 19 but woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days now watch how specific this is and pray that your flight or your escape may not be in winter or on the sabbath that's specifically jewish friends jesus is referring to the middle part of the tribulation period for then there will be great tribulation such as not been since the beginning of the world until this time nor nor ever shall be and unless those days were shortened no flesh would be saved but for the elect's sake that's the believers in that time predominantly the jews but tribulation saints except for the elect's sake those days will be shortened that's a powerful statement look for a moment down to verse 23 if you're marking in your bible this very much correlates to revelation 8 and 9. then if anyone says to you look here is the christ or there do not believe it for false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive if possible even the elect see i've told you beforehand therefore if they say to you look he's in the desert do not go out or look he's in an inner room do not believe it for as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west so also will the coming of the son of man be for wherever the carcass is there the eagles will be gathered together immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light and the stars will fall from heaven and the powers of the heavens will be shaken then the sign of the son of man will appear in heaven and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn and they will see the son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory and listen he will send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet and they will gather together his elect from the four winds from one end of heaven to the other the great coming the second coming of christ trumpets by the way don't let that last mention of trumpets fool you or deceive you or trick you about the temp uh trumpet blast of not only the rapture it's not the same or even the trumpets of these judgments trumpets are all over the scripture you just have to make sure that the context explains the use of the trumpets but judgment according to god is coming to this world and he has to judge this world or else he wouldn't be god our god's holy our god is pure our god is just i mentioned that this morning he's not angry in the sense that he loses his temper like us his anger is absolutely perfect god does nothing that he has to apologize for his righteousness and his anger his love and his justice are all perfect perfect we are fallen you know c.s lewis says we are what god is in large we are in small but for sin well that's a big butt the sin is a big deal we're all listen we've got all of these capacities but we've been corrupted and we've conducted ourselves in the world in such a way as humans that we have justifiably warranted the wrath and judgment of god god's coming back now look let's make this real clear i'm surprised we're still here i'm not joking i am absolutely major pre-tribulational i wasn't always i was pre-trib because pastor chuck smith was pre-trib and then i began to question it because my hero became for a while keith green remember keith green keith green was super super post-trib and then i became a post-tribber and that was really hard because you got to bend the scriptures around to fit and i wound up coming back to the pre-tribulational rapture view but this time knowing why the church is going to be raptured that doesn't mean we're going to go through suffering it doesn't mean that we're going to we're that we're not going to be persecuted all these things will happen and maybe it started in some way here in the western world but jesus is going to come for his bride the holy spirit is going to deposit her in the atmosphere to meet the lord in the air says the bible that's what we're living for every day as new testament believers we are the bride of christ but the bible tells us that there's a time of tribulation now it seems strange it's hard for me to articulate but let me tell you that regarding the seal judgments you've got seven seal judgments seals remember the seals the trumpets and the bulls you've got seven seals but the seventh seal brings about the trumpets does that make sense there's really six plus one that makes seven but the seventh brings in the next set of judgments and we're talking about the trumpet judgments tonight so in revelation chapter 8 verse 1 i want to talk to you about remembering his word there revelation chapter 8 verse 1 says when he opened the seventh seal there was silence in heaven for about a half an hour now as far as we know the reason why the bible might call this out there's no other record in the bible of silence being known about in heaven so you ought to mark that whatever is coming warrants the silence of heaven there's almost this pause of reverence and awe or maybe profound grief the bible says that god does not delight in the death of the wicked think about that you know how you and i was like oh so-and-so died so-and-so uh got ran over by a truck so and so whatever it's like and you're it's like you know they deserved it you know how we are we're terrible oh what happened that guy died oh well god weeps listen when osama bin laden died god wept he's grieved over the death of the wicked he's perfect in his love but the bible tells us there's silence for 30 minutes what's amazing to me is you're looking at a 2000 year old document and john was able to figure out it's about 30 minutes of silence have you ever been in a silent place it's extremely rare there's quiet and then there's absolute silence and guess what if you've ever been in an absolute silent room your ear is hum you think it's silent but then it's not you can hear your own brain work and mine kind of sounds like an old bicycle but there's a hum and heaven is silent because of the magnitude of what's coming and i saw the seven angels john says who stand before god and to them were given seven trumpets now this portion of scripture is taking place in what we would call the second half of the tribulation period and another angel having a golden censer came and stood at the altar and he was given much incense that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne verse 4 says in the smoke of the incense with the prayers of the saints ascended before god and from the angel's hand verse 5 then the angel took the censer filled with fire from the altar and threw it to the earth and there were noises thunderings lightnings and an earthquake imagine that church family before we move on please keep this in mind maybe perhaps more now than ever before in the past what heaven decrees its effect is upon earth what is decided in the spiritual realm will manifest in the physical realm you need to remember that don't think that we are so divided the physical from the spiritual that the two shall never connect i want to submit to you tonight that the two are never separate we know this from daniel when he prayed the bible says that he prayed and he fought as it were struggled in prayer 21 days can you imagine he stuck at it and the bible tells us that the angel came and answered his prayer that was given to the angel 21 days earlier can you imagine daniel's praying god hears it god says hey angel go deliver that answer that i'm going to give you here it is go give that to daniel i'll see you later and the bible tells us 21 days later the angel finally makes it to daniel daniel doesn't ask why the angel says this is how come i was in a war in the atmosphere with the demonic power trying to get this answer to you when we pray we can affect eternity and the prayers of the saints matter and we see this amazing moment that is introduced to us with silence it's a reverent holy moment and i think personally as i mentioned in the introduction how does this stuff apply to us if we're going to be raptured out here before all this stuff happens who cares i tell you what who cares for us today this should be a great catalyst for you and i to witness to our lost friends that's why we should care you're not going to want to have your friends experience what's in chapters 8-9 it's gruesome but we need to remember god's word it will never fail look at verses six and seven we see his mighty acts in revelation uh six there's this insert or we could maybe say a parenthetical insert there's an explanation so the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound the first angel sounded and hail and fire followed mingled with blood and they were thrown to the earth and a third of the trees were burned up and all green grass was burned up man that's terrifying look around california well for that matter look around the west washington southern canada washington oregon right now california arizona most of utah were under extreme heat wave massive high pressure creating grotesque temperatures this last week i think it's a world's record isn't it death valley unbelievable something like 130 136 that's death friends and then fires if that wasn't enough sky's turning red tonight the sun setting hey looks like the book of revelation the sun looks like blood and you look around this is terrible you don't want to breathe everything on your app is warning you unhealthy air no kidding but thank you this is nothing listen if you if you're not saved tonight and you don't like the weather outside it's hot listen for you it's cool for where you're going but look you don't want to go where you're going i have some advice you can become a christian because for us this is as hot as it gets it doesn't get any hotter you can make a decision tonight and change the direction you can order your weather and be in heaven everybody knows heaven is probably 74 degrees 73 maybe the angel sounds and there's this incredible judgment that's coming upon the earth and the green life all green grass trees burned up can you imagine this okay look this is where you get not all but a lot of your area breathing not not all but some so now you take away that think about the physical aspects and effects of that on earth people are maybe noticing or not i don't know breathing is not so easy all these cataclysmic events and i can tell you right now in modern theology modern liberalism today coming out of so many seminaries and bible colleges not all of them they explain this away as being typology and nothing to worry about it's just symbolic i'd like you to show me where there's a symbolic fulfillment of bible prophecy you're not going to find it what god says he fulfills literally and when he wants to speak in a figurative sense he says so for example the bible tells us and you know it already jesus when he was baptized listen hang on when jesus was baptized he came up out of the water what happened no it wasn't a dove i said what i saw the sunday school it was a dove it was a dove the bible says the spirit of god descended upon him like a dove like a dove means it wasn't a dove that's what it means the spirit of god came upon him like a dove lands on your shoulder a dove didn't land on jesus shoulder i know that blows your pictures in your mind but that's when god speaks symbolically he lets you know words like like words like as of makes for safe bible interpretation no this is really happening and this should cause all of us to become better evangelists paul told timothy do the work of an evangelist that's for all of us this is not for greg laurie or or whoever the evangelists are these days it's for all of us right the next thing in verses 8-9 you look at these judgments and in verses 8 and 9 it says then the second angel sounded and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea and a third of the sea became blood and the third of the living creatures in the sea died and a third of the ships were destroyed this is hard to believe and yet it will happen you know what this tells me to by the way it tells me how hard-hearted we can be that it's going to take such catastrophic things to get man's attention we're not wowed by anything anymore he's going to judge and he disrupts look a third a third a third in the sounding of the second angel all of these judgments it's remarkable the ships some have said that the word here and i'm i don't know you need to ask some of these other theologians that are in the back room because they probably know but um i have been told or i've read that the third of the ships it's quite easily or most assumed to be military ships i don't know if that's true or not it seems to me it'd be any ships but whatever it is it must be a massive loss of life think of the economy and i don't know how you view this but you view it all happening and like you know like a movie how long is this it's a it's 120 minutes no there's going to be these things taking place and they're though they manifest predominantly in a three and a half year period of time there is this episode and then there's a pause and then there's an episode and there's a pause what are people thinking during this time the gospel is being preached you read it a moment ago in matthew 24 the gospel is going all over the earth at that time remember the 144 000 hebrew speaking jewish evangelists 144 000 and think of their converts they're preaching christ too many have believed that there'll be more people come to christ in the tribulation period than at any other time think about it john said and it's a crowd so big i couldn't number them nobody could that's a that's a comforting thought isn't it that's good to know we go on revelation 10 and 11 it says then the third angel sounded now there's the first three watch what happens actually there's the first four and then there'll be the last three watch how it changes but the third one sounds in verse 10 and a great star fell from heaven burning like a torch and it fell on the third of the rivers so this is fresh water and the springs of water the name of the star was wormwood or it's called wormwood that means bitter and the third of the waters became wormwood and many men died from the water because it was made bitter so it's not only bitter it's poisonous on monday my wife and i and family we were to go to uh this coming monday for vacation to zion national park we love zion national park and it's only going to be like 190 there but we thought we'd go anyway appreciate heaven more uh and then we found out that um we can go but the river the virgin river is now deadly there's what's called an algae bloom never heard of it and animals are dying dogs have died from drinking the water it's dangerous to humans and so come come enjoy it'll be 150 but you can't go in the water so why go so we said forget it we'll drive up the coast we'll head on up the coast and then then we start booking hotels and close because of the fire closed because of the fire 101 closed because of monterey closed because of the fire and it's funny because we're like where are we going to go and i just thought you know this pastor hawking's having this conference it's all about the book of revelation heaven's a good heaven's a good spot to make a booking right now this listen this world's not so great anymore is it no not at all it's amazing and so verse 12 tells us that then the fourth angel sounded and a third of the sun was struck and a third of the moon and a third of the stars how's that going to happen and the third of them were darkened and the third of the day did not shine and likewise the night here's what's strange about all of that there's no mention of people freezing to death or cold coming upon the earth you know if that happened actually tonight meteorologically if the if the if this if the third of the sun stopped shining you'd be dead like that we'd freeze to death you know the sun is 93 miles 93 000 mah 93 million miles from us do you know that if it was five miles closer we'd burn to death and it was five miles further five miles we'd freeze to death he's going to shake that up whatever's been stable is going to become unstable again if you're not a believer you need to become a believer tonight well let's see we're going to be pausing right here and we'll pick it up next time together but as we begin to look at this these are the things that are coming upon the earth god has promised them so many people today they want the benefits of god but they don't want to hear about these kinds of things and yet here's the good news the good news is god is perfectly just perfectly fair and he's perfectly true the judgment that he's going to levy against this earth is in direct proportion to the violation of his law of his ten commandments of his nature so when evil is perpetrated there's going to be justice to the mother who has lost their child to some molester or some disaster there will be justice in the end doesn't look like there's justice now but when god does it it will be perfectly just and so we're gonna close it up for now and we'll pick it
