The End (Part 1) 2 Peter 3:10-13

open your bibles to second peter second peter chapter three this morning second peter three we're in verses 10 to 13 as we continue on and exactly what i say in a moment ago if you're joining us for the first time uh you may be wondering well that's a weird place to do a topical sermon well we don't do that uh we are marching through the book of second peter and the reason why we're doing that is because we marched through the book of first peter and now we've come in chronological order to verses 10 to 13 and it is a very very remarkable and i'm going to add difficult portion of scripture to teach you can look up these portions of second peter 3 and you will see a vast majority of scholars over the last 14 1500 years that have admitted that this is tough stuff it's not that we don't know what peter's talking about it's that why did peter clump it all together and i'll bring that more to your attention in a moment as we look at this second peter chapter 3 i'll begin reading in verse 10 if you'll read in verse 11. um i will be in the even-numbered verses today if you read the odd number verses verses 10 to 13 and if in all doubt you can look to the screens and read it there with us second peter 3 beginning to verse 10 but the day of the lord will come as a thief in the night in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise and the elements will melt with fervent heat both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up verse 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of god because of which the heavens will be dissolved being on fire and the elements will melt with fervent heats heavenly father we ask in jesus name that today you literally father god by the power of your holy spirit honoring your eternal word would exalt the lord jesus christ in the delivering of this message father only you can meet us each of us where we're at i pray that you would cause us to be stripped clean as it were and focus on what your bible says lord not what someone's wearing near us or what is going on in the atmosphere any distractions we pray god that you'd remove them lord this is your place and we're grateful and happy to be here but most importantly lord when you're done with us today may you have your way in our thinking and in our understanding of what god's word says to us we pray in jesus name all god's people said amen you can be seated you can be seated so we begin this portion of scripture now but the message entitled appropriately i might add the end the end i'm always blown away with how many times we get into portions of scripture without planning where god has anticipated the very text or the context of where we'll be for example just several times there in just a few verses you there read about fervent heat you read about things being burned up you read about things melting and here we are in the middle of a world's record i think heat wave in southern california things seem to be melting it's a fervent heat and it's hot out there and it's going to get hotter today what is what are they saying today somewhere between 115 to 117 death valley possibly reaching 130 degrees today it's absolutely crazy and it's just a massive zone of heat that has enveloped the southwest of these states here's what's crazy it's going to be 100 degrees today in denver colorado at 5 000 feet high and on tuesday they're expecting snow that's not normal that's not normal but what you and i are talking about right here in the bible listen up class is normal what we're looking at being taught by the apostle peter here and he's going to be drawing a lot these next few weeks from the old testament is absolutely normal church listen here's the challenge to us we don't want to embrace this normal i'm going to tell you right now you may say i'm a bible believing student of the word of god i get it and i hope i hope you are i hope i am hope we all are but the truth of the matter is when peter begins to talk to us about the end he's serious it's truly coming it is real but when we talk about the end what does the bible mean about the end we need to know this and peter with a broad brush as it were in fact in your mind's eye i've often used this picture in your head think of peter either on the palette with a broad brush right or a great umbrella umbrella opened up and under that peter is going to teach us this morning he's going to be teaching us things that fall under that umbrella titled the end it's vitally important number one above all things keep in mind that peter's passion is to deliver and clarity the gospel the the authorship that he writes as he is now aged and that he's near to his death he will go from rome and he will be taken out of his comfort and he will be crucified upside down peter was crucified inverted dying in rome he will die in rome these are his last words but he wants us to know the gospel and as we get ourselves introduced to this portion of scripture the first thing must always be the first thing and that is the gospel mark with me if you would first corinthians chapter 15. beginning at verse 3. pastor steve talked a moment ago about joining the call ministry and knowing for sure how to share the gospel you can't share the gospel unless you know the gospel well first corinthians 15 verse 3 begins paul is speaking for i delivered to you first of all that which i also received here it comes that christ died for our sins according to the scriptures paul is saying christ died for our sins according to the old testament that's what he means and that he was buried and all this by the way implies according to the scriptures you could even add that and do no harm to the text before you that he died for our sins according to the scriptures that he was buried according to the scriptures and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures verse 5 and that he was seen by cephas and by the 12 and after that he was seen by over 500 brethren at once or at one moment of time of whom the greater part remained to the present but some have fallen asleep fallen asleep is the loving term that christians say to one another regarding death verse 7 after that he was seen by james and then by all the apostles verse 8 then last of all he was seen by me also says paul as by one born out of due time dropping down to first corinthians 15 verse 24. look down at verse 24. he went on to say then comes the end when he that is christ delivers the kingdom to god the father and when he puts an end to all rule in all authority and power that is a excellent collection of verses to give you that broad brush understanding the going forth of the last days or the end times or the end listen began with the advent of jesus christ and the end will end when eternity begins for us as believers but we need to go through that because it's not as easily understood as it sounds keeping this in mind that the sum total friends this is awesome the sum total of all truth regarding the scriptures is to lead us to this action and that is that we would be followers of the lord jesus christ you have often heard me say i do not care how long you've attended calvary chapel that is meaningless i don't care if you're a card-carrying member of the first baptocostal church of southern california it's irrelevant it doesn't matter to god if you're a member of some organization some christian group or that you've done this or that all of that is irrelevant the fact of the matter is are you an adherent and does your soul life depend upon the gospel of jesus christ is that the reason why you live the gospel is the summation of all of god's truth everything was given in scripture the entire bible was given to underscore the reality of god's salvation in fact the shorter westminster criticism criticism catechism the westminster catechism says it beautifully and i wonder today if people can even handle this look at it with me in fact we'll put it right here in the screen it says that the chief end of man is to glorify god that's why you and i are living you know by the way if you're not happy you need to do this part i'm serious if you're lonely do this part if your life has no direction if you've been depressed do this part the chief end of man is to glorify god and the second thing is to enjoy him forever that is an awesome statement that is hundreds and hundreds of years old when that catechism was given they came to the understanding that the summation of all that god is revealing to us is important to be lived out in this way you are either doing this living that is the chief life and end for you is to glorify god and the question then is are you enjoying him god wants you to enjoy him how far has our culture come from enjoying god our world we're to enjoy him this is all introduction church write it down if you would the ministry of jesus christ and his rule and space and time is what we're going to be teaching on and talking about in this section and i think you might find this quite interesting in luke chapter 4 verse 16 and i'm going to i'm going to read it a little bit different so follow along with me luke 4 16 says so he that is jesus came to nazareth where he had been brought up and as his custom was he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day and stood up to read verse 17. and he was handed the book of the prophet isaiah stop right there this is jesus returning after his initiation into ministry into his he goes back up north into the galilee he's there in nazareth where he was brought up everybody knew him it's normal and what also is normal that you don't get is the fact that when jesus stood up to read the scriptures nobody went oh look look it's jesus in every synagogue there's a man appointed every sabbath to read scripture and that day was the day that was appointed to jesus jesus jesus didn't show up and say hey i just had a radical experience in the wilderness had to fight with satan for a while it was crazy amazing boy am i hungry oh by the way hand me the prophet isaiah oh no no no friends listen skeptics listen up it was jesus's day being a young man in that synagogue of that town in other words his number was up not by chance but by the design of god jesus stands there and the attendant who's the governor of the torah or of the old testament prophets as well would turn to that portion of scripture and hand it to jesus jesus didn't turn to it other than make sure that he was in it or at it okay watch this every synagogue all around the world they do it today all read the exact same scripture on the sabbath so what you're about to hear all the synagogues in the world are hearing the same thing this is what happens verse 17 says so when the book was handed the prophet was handed to jesus and when he had opened the book he found the place where it was written why because this is where the reader was supposed to read now watch this i put in my notes isaiah 61 jesus is looking at isaiah 61 verse 1 he says there in nazareth the spirit of the lord god is upon me because the lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to those who are bound look at verse 2 to proclaim the acceptable year of the lord and he stopped now the bible will go on to tell you in the new testament gospels that all eyes were fixed upon him at that moment because jesus stopped and he handed the scroll back to the attendant okay number one this wasn't supposed to happen now he wasn't supposed to stop [Music] now he's got everybody's attention what's he doing how come he's not finishing why why did he stop there's a comma look at the comment the name of god lord there's a comma to proclaim the acceptable year of the lord comma he stopped at a comma by the way let me keep reading if he would have gone on this is what he would have said after that comma the day of vengeance of our god to comfort all who mourn to console those who mourn in zion and to give them beauty for ashes and oil for joy for mourning and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness that they may be called the trees of righteousness the planting of the lord that he may be glorified jesus never read that why because it was not time yet to do that look i don't know who your faith focus is i don't know if it's if you're from some cult or some religious group or i don't know your background but listen to this the god of the bible the messiah of jesus christ of the world the lord himself comes and he's reading scripture and led by the holy spirit god the son stops at a comma because that was his ministry period and it wasn't supposed to pick up until later that comma like a great dam holding back raging waters for the last 2000 years listen has held back the wrath of almighty god that's what that comma represents because the next part of verse 2 says and the day of vengeance of our god and that's exactly what peter's talking about in that broad brush overview of what he's teaching us don't get me wrong it uh it's a powerful truth that you and i are going to be looking at about the end but those of us who are followers of jesus that concept and teaching and doctrine of the end must not ever overwhelm you so long as your faith is in jesus christ it's natural for people to get nervous when they hear about the end but it's not natural for a christian to get nervous when we hear or study about the end for us as i've said often before the end for us is just the beginning what we want to be careful about is the fact that are we really truly followers of the lord jesus christ and not almost a christian because where he's taking us friends is going to lay in this church i promise you this truth as all truth does it's like an axe laid to the root of the tree it just divides things okay and this is very very important but i want to bring it to you it's heavy stuff this is a this is not a portion of scripture that a pastor would teach to grow church numbers in fact this this sermon and maybe next week's sermon will be a negative church growth sermon series how to empty your church in two easy weeks but uh think about it this way if you might want to take some notes on this what are we going to be looking at how's this going to be applied to our lives note this that in these verses peter's flying over as it were about thirty thousand feet and he's looking down number one his flyover will speak to us about the events of the tribulation period that is to come number two he will show you the cataclysmic events that bring in the second coming of christ to the earth three he will show us the end of this physical universe as we know it for what happens at the conclusion of the millennium what happens at the end of the thousand-year reign of christ all of those incredible epics of time are going to be culminated in just what three four verses and so we need to be very careful i've worked really hard you guys this might be boring no no no no i mean it might get boring i almost want to say if you get confused raise your hand you know let's stop but i got to tell you uh we've worked hard to bring this to you i i say we i'm talking about god and i we've been working together all week on this i want you to know this i want you to know this because i want you to be able to use it and you're witnessing and you're loving on your friends who don't know jesus but i also want you to have great sweet confidence and not only knowing what you're going to enjoy with god in heaven forever but also happily what you're going to miss because of christ so with this i want to encourage you i want you to hear something in a moment um [Music] but with all that we're going through i want you to keep your eye on the end okay keep your eye on the end um how many of you mow your own line raise your hand okay now if you really care about your yard now if you don't care about your yard you start the lawnmower and you just start walking you might even text while you walk and you don't care how it looks but if you care about your yard uh what has got to be perfectly straight without any wavering has got to be the directions of your cut the wheels have all got your lawn needs right it's gotta you gotta how do you do that though how do you do that yeah watch you never watch the wheels of your lawnmower like this you don't mow your lawn like this if you want to have a nice straight line you got to look all the way across the other side of your yard and fix your eye on a rock or something never take your eye off of it and just go toward it like that and guess what it kind of feels weird seems strange you stop and then you look back and it's so straight and it's like oh my gosh it's awesome and people say my what a straight line you cut it's uh not hard if you keep your eye on the end if you can see the end then you know where to focus if you can see the end you know how much time is left if you can see the end listen you can endure so much better when you can see the end so i want you to listen to what randy alcorn says in his excellent book heaven in 1952 young florence chadwick stepped into the pacific ocean off catalina island determined to swim to the shore of mainland california she'd already been the first woman to swim the english channel both ways the weather was foggy and chilly she could hardly see the boats accompanying her still she swam for 15 hours when she begged to be taken out of the water along the way her mother in a boat alongside told her she was close and that she could make it finally physically and emotionally exhausted she stopped swimming and was pulled out not until she was on the boat did she discover the short was less than half a mile away at a news conference the next day she said all i could see was the fog i think if i could have seen the shore i would have made it consider her words i think if i could have seen the shore i would have made it for believers that sure is jesus and being with him in the place that he promised to prepare for us to live with him forever the sure we should look for is that of the new earth if we can see through the fog and picture our eternal home in our mind's eye it will comfort and energize us very true is it not keeping your eye on the target the bible is going to be walking us through peter's going to be walking us through a remarkable series of understandings from old and new testament scriptures alike what's in store for us what does the future look like for us who trust and believe in jesus christ how does the end come for this globe as we know it and for the heavens that we gaze upon at night and how does it all come about regarding a new creation and a new heaven and a new earth what does all that mean and where will you be that's what we're going to be looking at over the course of these next few weeks we start number one right here with verse 10 if you would regarding the end and that is you know the end is coming will you mark that down and i'm having you mark that down because i'm also speaking not only to the believer but i believe that i'm speaking to the non-believer you may be here today and you may believe to be a staunch atheist but yet down deep inside i know something that you do not know about yourself and that is this issue is a constant burden and plague in your life that there's an end there's an overwhelming sense in the heart of man that the end is coming we shouldn't be surprised by that in all things we'll see in a moment end is inevitable but here in second peter chapter 3 verse 10 peter announces to us and mark it please mark up your bible well but the day of the lord mark that down the day of the lord you need to mark that will come as a thief in the night in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise and the elements will melt with fervent heat both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up says peter remarkable statement god says that he himself deals in days in fact if you remember earlier last week together the bible taught us uh here in first or second peter 3 that to the lord one day is how is how long a thousand years to god and a thousand years is as one day to god and it doesn't mean that god has a really slow or fast moving watch it means that god is not governed by time he's not limited by it that he being spirit is transcendent and lives outside of all that is the created universe all that is material and stanford university and mit and jpl years ago discovered that time is a physical property we don't think about that often do we but time is a physical property you can tamper with time in the laboratory and we know scientifically this is true it's a physical aspect of our universe and god says i'm outside of all that for me who dwells in eternity a day to me is a day a thousand years is a thousand years it's the same thing to me he doesn't count time that's who he is dr h ironside says the day of his grace that's what we're living through now is the church age these last 2000 years the day of his grace will at some point in time in the not too distant future come to an end and when it does there will be the grand conclusion when the day of the lord and of christ and of god will come upon the stage that's a great statement because the bible and here's where i hope i don't lose you the bible speaks in numerous days regarding the end times there's the day of the lord and that defines certain things there's the day of christ that defines certain things and there's the day of god and that defines certain days certain things very important we know that because you're going to certainly you're living one of those right now and you're going to live the other in eternity mark it down if you would first of all let's look at this the day of the lord in verse 10 the day of the lord what is it and in your note-taking you should mark this down zephaniah chapter 1 verse 14. zephaniah 1 14 says the great day of the lord is near it is near and it hastens quickly that word means that once it starts it goes fast the noise of the day of the lord is bitter interesting see the word noise it correlates with what we read a moment ago where there is a great noise at this particular time of the end known as the day of the lord zephaniah goes on there the mighty men shall cry out it's a statement regarding the judgment of the world and the cataclysmic events regarding the day of the lord so church family mark it down the day of the lord is a fearful or ominous time it's in the future amos chapter 5 verse 20. amos 5 20 says is not the day of the lord darkness and not lights it's a very very difficult time a very fearful time the day of the lord you say pastor i've never heard that before i'm just giving you a bible here we need to read and study carefully the day of the lord in one of the gospels by the way this comes to my mind it's not on the screen and one of the gospels it's presented at the day of the lord it says that the day of the lord comes and it is terrible in the old king james and the word terrible means fearful see man are you trying to encourage us are you trying to scare us i'm showing you that the day of the lord is something that you and i number one as believers will not experience here on earth it is the time of god's judgment upon a christ rejecting world it's reserved for the tribulation period of time so if you want to write down the day of the lord what is it you can certainly write down with safety that it is for sure the seven year tribulation period that is for sure joel chapter 3 verse 14 multitudes multitudes in the valley of decision for the day of the lord is near in the valley of decision and joel chapter 3 is that great prophetic portion where christ judges the nations there in jerusalem at his second coming the day of the lord number two mark this down what is the day of christ the bible talks about the day of christ or the day of the lord jesus christ you need to know the difference the day of christ philippians 1 verses 6 and 10 says being confident of this very thing that he who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of jesus christ and all god's people said hallelujah thank god has god ever started to work in your life well back when i was nine did you are you now coming back to christ after all those years yep then you know what cheer up stand up get excited if he started to work in you he says i won't end it i won't stop until i'm done now look here's the here's the crazy thing you and i in our rebellion we can delay it and we can rip ourselves off no not let me rephrase that we we often rip ourselves off the greatest thing that you and i could do for the success of our own life in spiritual matters and maybe in all kinds of matters is that we just yield to god just just yield to him stop having to be in control can i confess this for all of us you want to control something it's a massive display of a lack of faith well yeah but but jack nobody knows how to do it like i do god does oh i'm sure god's going to come down and work out that equation for me at the company yeah he will actually yeah he will if he can stop the mouths of lions in a den if he can part the red sea he can come into your office your cubicle your dilemma your problem and he can deal with it that's what he does if i got to tell you if he didn't do this stuff i'd be out of here i'd be out of here he is the kind of god that does this he'll he'll finish it off look at philippians 1 verse 10. that you may approve the things that are excellent that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of christ the day of jesus christ the day of christ is when christ interacts with his church to take her to heaven it could be that in your own life as a believer today's that day where you go to heaven it's the fulfillment of that verse it's the fulfillment of that promise god will not stop working in your life until you see him face to face and oh by the way hang in there keep following him stay close to him because what he's going to do is that he's going to bring you to that place when your life is all completed he's going to usher you into that day of christ it's going to be well for you the day of christ philippians 2 verse 16 philippians 2 16 holding fast the word of life so that i may rejoice in the day of christ that i have not run in vain or labored in vain that's a beautiful thing you know what correlates with that you know what we all want to have in our tombstone that's right both of you said the exact same thing we all wanted lisa's dad in uh in anaheim he has on his tombstone uh he has kept the faith and he has finished the race well done now good and faithful survey right that's what we're living for and so what you and i are excited about is not the day of the lord we'll talk about this in the bulk of our study but for us it's the day of jesus christ could be today you know that he comes for us first corinthians 1 8 says who will also confirm you to the end i like that that you may be blameless in the day of our lord jesus christ that is awesome god's holy spirit's working in our life to secure us right now how many of your christians raise your hands raise your hands okay listen his word to you is i'm i'm confirming you every day and i'm going to get you all the way through to the end and that's my that's my commitment that's my covenant relationship and it's it has here's listen it has nothing to do with how how obedient or sweet or faithful you are though those things matter it has everything to do with that confirmation being that agreement between the father and the son did you know that you know why this thing called christianity and your salvation is going to work not because of you not because of me it's because the father and the son have an agreement that's why it can't be broken god cannot he cannot renegotiate on himself he cannot rob himself he cannot change himself that's why salvation is between the father and the son thank god do you remember when the angels came and ministered to jesus in the garden of gethsemane do you remember what jesus's prayer was father if this cup can be removed from me remember that what was he asking simply this father if salvation can happen any other way than me going to this cross to suffer let's have it go that other way apparently no answer came back jesus knew why he had come jesus knew what he was to do jesus had come to that moment and in the moment of god incarnate his flesh is screaming out is there any other way i don't want to go to the cross i do not and i don't think so much it's the physical pain i i i believe that he knew as a sacrifice he was going to be separated from his father oh my gosh friends listen the god of all creation the god of all the universe was had never been could nor ever be separated listen why did jesus come as a human because the god of all the universe could not be separated from himself but sin separates us from god so how are we whom he loves so much ever going to be back together with him unless one comes to represent us to a die for our sins because we can't redeem ourselves be that whoever that is has got to be worthy see we look around and there is no man worthy d god comes god comes and says i'm him i'm the one mediator between man and god christ jesus he's the one and what does he do he prays and he asks in that moment of difficulty father take this cup from me there's no answer from heaven angels came and ministered to jesus by the way i believe your salvation was done at that moment i think it was done there the cross was just finishing up because his will was submitted in that garden perfectly to the will of the father and i thank god that nobody was there to help him he did it on his own he rose again from the dead and he is exactly what our high priest is to be in heaven above do you have a high priest in heaven his name is jesus if you don't know that and he's all together lovely and awesome and his job his love his passion is to present you before the father blameless don't you feel unworthy about that i do don't you i do i know me do you know you god's blood applied to your situation by your faith in christ jesus god declares you blameless now when i even read that i kind of go really um maybe if you read over that fast just don't pause over that you know what if you just do the opposite you do pause on that and you meditate on that then you realize what isaiah realized what was me for i'm a man of unclean lips and i dwell in the midst of a people of an unclean lips that's us he saved you because he loves you not because you're cute not because you're this or that not because of your voice or the lack thereof seriously remarkable that's the day of christ man it's going to be fantastic the third day is the day of god and you're going to enjoy this too the day of god in fact if you look at verse 12 skip a little bit ii peter 3 12. it says looking for and hastening the coming of the day of god notice she started out in verse 10 with the day of the lord and now verse 12 says the day of god and he adds because of which the heavens will be dissolved being on fire and the elements will melt with fervent heat the day of god church i won't belabor it we'll study it later the day of god is the day when all things physical as we know it are gone overdone listen carefully all things as we know it are done gone and the new heavens the new earth eternity as you and i will know it will begin for us the day of god it's one day it's infinite it will never end listen it will never end oh come back in a few weeks if you don't like today come back in a few weeks because you're going to learn that in that day you'll be there and here's here's the fun thing you will not have a sin nature to have to deal with like for example oh what if i'm there like 10 000 years then i wind up sinning what if i trip over a fire hydrant in on the streets of gold and a bad word comes out ain't gonna happen it's impossible because listen you will be given the nature of christ you won't be walking around eternity going oh man i've been here like 7 000 years has been amazing i really love it here i want to stay i'm just terrified that i don't do something like adam and eve did it will be impossible for us because our sin nature will have been gone we've already gone through that we will be fully totally radically redeemed that's what's going on in his great salvation it's wonderful so as we look to this regarding the end this is what we're seeing you know that the end is coming it's universal in the heart of man so verse 10 but the day of the lord will come as a thief which is amazing because in no way should we be surprised by this reality or this time or this chronos by nature by observation everything's coming to an end we talked about that a week or two ago and what is known remember the second law of thermodynamics entropy and i don't want to get too goofy on this but everything that is observable in the universe from the sun the solar system the universes what the hubble telescope has allowed us to see all the way down to a cell that's on the tip of your nose all of it is becoming undone it's all unraveling it's like a thread that's being pulled in a scientific way this is what is observable in the natural world and the bible is telling us that all things must end we need to we need to embrace that it used to be i don't know if it's so much anymore but in the west you know we had such a cush easy going life i don't think we have that anymore it's like i don't want anything to change i don't like everything just the way that i don't want no you want things to change because the stuff that we're hanging on to i just got a brand new car i saw it listen just the other day i was driving down the street and um somebody in town bought a brand new brand license plates not yet brand new lamborghini and i don't know if you know what that what that even is but you don't have to know what it is all you have to do is hear it and i put my windows down and i and i put my video on my phone just to capture the sound of it [Laughter] i mean it'll make a grown man just fall in love [Applause] but this it just and it's like oh my gosh and i my ford to giddy up and now i would assume i would assume that talked to that person in that car said man you know jesus come back today like right now i don't know if they'd be so excited about that i just but i just paid 250 000 for this car well here let me help you out let me scratch it and it will take it it'll take the idolatry right out of your heart that is good you know for the christian and you get a brand new car go dent it go dent it and you'll get over it faster but it's coming to an end things are wearing out things are going down to prove that the burn rate of the sun right now today might be a little bit more than normal but the burn rate of the sun is 5 million tons of hydrogen per second the sun is shrinking by 5 million tons of hydrogen per second did you know this the human death rate per hour around the world is estimated to be 11 000 people every 60 seconds did you know that the volume of water that flows over the great niagara falls is 6 million cubic feet every 60 seconds we hear those big numbers and we go that's just wow that's something but we can't relate to them the fact of the matter is listen mark it down if you would the end is superimposed reality it's a superimposed reality everybody listen it is a fact we observe it and according to the bible that's coming and i want to stress that the bible is so beautifully accurate that it's not only telling us about what we already know on the inside but even gives us scientific terms regarding it the day of the lord it's a superimposed reality no one will escape it coming malachi 4 verse 1 says for behold the day is coming burning like an oven and all the proud yes all who do wickedly will be stubble well maybe we should broadcast that over the city of portland maybe we should broadcast that over the heads of those who are involved in human trafficking that the day of the lord is coming it's burning like an oven and that all the proud yes all those who do wicked will be turned into stubble god looks down at wickedness and he says it's coming undone even time is unraveling have you noticed when you're living for yourself in this world especially when you're young and you have no wisdom you begin to think i can live like this forever it's one of the deceptive tricks about being young and dumb you think you're sinning and you haven't gotten cut so you think it's going to be a fantastic life all the while the meter is running goes on in malachi and the day which is coming shall burn them up says the lord of hosts that will leave them neither root nor branch verse two but to you notice to the believer to you who fear the lord or fear my name the son of righteousness shall arise with healing in his wings what a difference do i dare even preach on this message in our 21st century that god says there are those who are going to perish and they're going to be consumed by fire because they have done wickedly but to those who've called out upon my name and trusted me i will watch over them and i will heal them and i will cover them with my wings it's listen it's one way or the other and people get all freaked out when you hear about that today let me say i am only being a good student of the bible i'm repeating what god has said that's my calling i'm just simply a repeater well i don't know if i like that i just repeat what he has said we look around this world that we're in and all of a sudden our united states of america is a basket case it's insane people calling for the destruction of our nation people calling for assassinations johnny depp johnny depp eric holder maxine waters hang on hang on i can play it in my head i got to see it robert de niro madonna joy bear all of them have said i want to assassinate this president you used to be arrested for talk like that we didn't say that about barack obama you can't talk like that oh yes we can what gives you the right to talk like that because we are so wicked we are so debased and we don't think anything's ever going to happen to us that's why we talk like that see this is something i told you i told you earlier about politically correct stuff i told you i told you this is it god looks down look god's not blind god's not like this he's not like this god's not like this he doesn't have rose-colored glasses on god looks upon america and he's grieved he's grieved lawlessness the bible speaks out against lawlessness and that's what we're seeing in our world around us and god says i'm going to come someday and i'm going to judge and this is a collective this is his final work he's not talking about the immediate the now personal judgment that people can be under or even national or what is called situational judgments you gotta wonder sometimes if california is not under situational judgments by the hand of god because of what california has done to god and how it's conducted itself he said i don't believe that read your old testament you'll believe it when one man looked out of his window and he saw a really hot woman taking a bath he said to his assistant get her for me she's awesome and he has sex with her and then tries to cover it up and then he can't pin it she's pregnant now so he can't pin it on the husband because the husband was a warrior soldier and too faithful to go home and enjoy a night with his wife so that this guy could pin it on his on her husband the guy didn't do it he wanted to not enjoin his wife because his troops were all in the battlefield not enjoying their wives so he thought why should i enjoy my wife if my guys can't enjoy their wives so now that's not working right so this guy winds up scheming to have that man killed he murders the man to get away with having his wife and a whole year goes by nobody knows and god says david i've seen what you've done and i'm going to judge you your home from this moment on will be riddled with trouble david cries out repents and god says you're forgiven you're forgiven but your your family will be riddled with trouble why because whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap forgiven or not forgive it or not and god is talking about a time that we all know we know it's superimposed this reality is on the human heart and yet and i have to end uh this is i feel sorry for you guys but um the the the very thing that causes us to almost have to catch our breath if you just press it just one step further is the very thing that can gloriously liberate you and set you free that this god who knows all things and the fact that he nothing nothing is going to be getting out of his preview out of his grip and that the bible says that we all must stand before god in the end with whom we have to do this very same one who knows that and knows what you're thinking inside about that private thing or about that life or lifestyle or that attitude that you've had who and you think and believe and maybe it's true you've tried to change but you can't you've come to the right place you've come to the right moment it's a glorious moment to god when a man or a woman says i've tried so hard i can't change and god as it were whispers over a cloud that's right i've been trying to tell you that for years you can't change yourself you can try to reinvent you can try to remodel you can try to redo but the down deep inside truth of the matter is your nature is what it is and jesus says jesus died on the cross jesus rose again from the grave jesus is coming back and he announces that he is the king of kings he is the lord of lords and he's the one who transforms lives and he's listen he does it to everyone who will yield to him so it's like oh my goodness all this all this i hear this i hear this oh but listen the bible tells us that to as many as received him to them god gave power to become children of god amen so it is true will you be honest with yourself it is true inside that there's this superimposed thought of judgment the question should be what can be done about it it's amazing because this is the teaching the preaching of god's word it's a supernatural thing it's an old thing and yet it's an eternal thing and this setting right now between you and i all of a sudden we're all you and i collectively were spectators right now to god speaking to us and saying to us give this to me give that to me and you know how we work we try to sweep this thing but he doesn't know about that one thing right back in june 2009 i mean nobody knows so he can't know and he's he's already told you i was i saw the whole thing but but god we're not going to talk about that right because i i'm not really totally responsible for it yeah that's it i'm not totally responsible for it i was pressured by others that's it or can i have an option i was drunk when i did that so the big sin is the drunk part not the big thing i did because i was drunk that's what preceded the act and so i'll go with that i'll go behind what's door number one no he just he's like this he knows so what are you gonna do what will you do the day of the lord is coming i would highly recommend that you have a day of the lord jesus christ first and you can change literally change that which is impossible to change your life is unraveling the thread is falling time is running out unless isn't that amazing unless unless you go from the day of the lord over your life to the day of christ father we come to you this morning and wow lord just yesterday just the intense heat i so often thought i even told the guy at oppo loco i'm so glad i'm not going to hell because this is hot enough right now lord in the name of jesus i know that there may be things that are being said from your word right now that maybe somebody showed up today not thinking i i didn't i wasn't didn't come to church i didn't want to come to church here about more heat my friend listen don't don't don't stop listening right there listen a little bit more by whatever circumstances and however you got here i believe that was an act of god you heard truth this morning and the holy spirit is asking you how's your soul if you were to die today where would you go how do you know are you hoping are you imagining are you wishing are you thinking or do you know that just like jack just like the people all around you all of us deserve hell but christ it's all impossible for us to pull ourselves up by bootstraps and get ourselves into a precious holy heaven yes it's impossible but christ so my friend right where you're at right now today there may be a battle inside of your soul and you may not be sure i'm asking you right now to consider what day will it be for you will you suffer the horrors and the terror of the coming day of the lord when god will consume the wicked with the breath of his mouth or will you run to jesus and receive from him words like zacchaeus heard on his day that truly this child also is a child of abraham for faith has come to this house today maybe that's you today maybe you're very morally a very nice guy very nice girl all that stuff fantastic thank you but what about heaven will you allow salvation to come to your house today you know what maybe i don't know this is a thought in my head it maybe it's from god maybe not but there there may very well be a man here today and you're you're very conscientious about leading your woman or leading your family and the lord is saying to you today you're not the spiritual leader that i want you to be you're not the representation to her to them that i want you to be i want you to be so like me you you're the picture of me to them maybe there's a man in this gathering or out on the lawn or in the courtyard or maybe you're listening right now maybe you're viewing us somewhere in the world and god is speaking to you and he's saying i want you to be a man of god now well heads are bowed and eyes are closed for all of us today if you'd like to accept jesus christ as your lord and savior will you pray this prayer will you pray something to this effect almighty god i come to you now and i'm not sure about all these things i don't understand it all but but my heart has been touched i have had a roller coaster of emotions in the last 55 minutes i have laughed and i've wanted to cry i have had fear and then i've had a tinge of joy and i've had hope and then i've had it dashed and i want to be sure now i want to know that if i were to die today that i would see you on beautiful terms but that if i lived today and onward that i would live for you i don't want anything about church i don't want anything about membership and all that stuff i don't want religion i want you god i want you lord i want to be a follower of jesus today god knows every heart that's hearing this invitation right now he's listening to your soul right now and here's the thing you decide now to be intellectually honest with god because all of that is taking place in your mind right now you decide today whom
