foreign [Music] s don't let friends watch television alone I'm Adam and I'm Jay and today we're gonna react reviewer fin at the end we're gonna read episode nine of season one of the last of us we've reached the final mission oh boy one final episode that's only 43 minutes long I don't I can't even wear a lot of people who played the game like how are they gonna do all the things in 45 minutes gonna land to the end of The Last of Us game one we'll find out I mean a lot happened although granted maybe not a lot has to happen they just they show up go hello okay thanks I'm gonna go now and then like no wait and then reverse that decision and then leave possibly that is and I think I kept that vague enough for those of you who have not seen the episode or know what's gonna happen so you're not don't spoil anything oh well we know fully know what's gonna happen just how how many Brians is Joel gonna have to go through like we're gonna find out all right let's watch this thing oh hello that's Boston in the background please tell me there's someone there to help I don't think so bud [Music] oh God I mean oh is that does that explain how she's immune I think so hi baby oh [Laughter] wow thank God the newest baby for this I know sure did you tell me it's just nice but also awful at the same time wow and the extra level of it being her yes yeah okay cries and everything shut up and that's all we needed to the scene she was close enough to Boston we know and then we can hear yeah we know what happens last next yes assume your audience is intelligent and they will rise to the occasion okay we're still in the past right no Marlene's alive right I believe so right it's been many episodes it has been oh a lot to happen in the past eight weeks Jay yeah say what you want the at least the apocalypse isn't boring you know oh here we are in the past I cut it before I was bit she lied for oh wait so Marlene would know from the beginning right her name is Ellie dude cover her ears what are we doing there papa bear oh we're doing fine doing fine huh it's just you know so I don't know if that information was in the game but no I don't think it does but if Marlene was there and had that those context clues well that's yeah I feel like that's your information yeah if you should have passed that information along or she may know how or she may maybe she did it just seems like more information than they had in the game version of the story of that if her mom was bitten as she was well the umbilical cord was still there that's kind of a big genetic clue of what might be the actual cure have you ever played this Bobble Boggle it's a word game do you like words actually this time I was thinking we blast our way through that Rubble I found some dynamite in that RV back there really no so we're gonna cut [Laughter] I had you going didn't I oh it's sometimes all you can do is just keep doing your best it's not his it's not she's not mad at him not upset with him she's just you know that was the most video game gate opening sound I was like wow I've heard that one I actually appreciate Ellie please don't run off the Apocalypse wait how did you see whatever it is you're running to up off these stairs hello what are you doing it's all right can you hurry up come on oh um there's so there's they're the weirdest creatures but they're so beautiful you want giraffes they're fine oh they're awesome they're so beautiful what do you mean what else are we supposed to do nothing we just go back to Tommy's we forget about the whole damn thing when we take these giraffes and we start a show they're so fun giraffes you gotta take one come on and take a giraffe I'll get back to Jackson Hole batch of Tommy's that's too much ah you build them a pen a pen yeah we should keep it when it gets too cold it's really tall building yet I mean oh Yorkies live in Salt Lake I guess although Salt Lake is pretty cool too ah the giraffes they've made it to them yeah a couple a couple of more decades we're gonna have just stamping and herds of giraffes just roaming the uh the United Midwest in the United States yeah the only thing longer than their next is their thirst for blood I was the guy who shot and missed and I wasn't scared either I was ready oh [ __ ] so Time Heals all wounds I guess it wasn't time how do I respond to that go ahead oh you want to go feed the giraffes again you know what I'm in the mood for what shitty puns shitty puns ah we're shitty bugs we're making apocalypse jokes like there's no tomorrow too soon no it's topical what did the green grape say to the purple grape stop whining there's a three out of ten seven I'll give it a five five out of ten there was no need for a flashbang you could have just been like hey hey stop right there but also the flashbangs will scare the giraffes that's yes I think there's a lot more missing here he has protocol don't spook the giraffes they've already done enough man did you guys have the graffiti everything yeah you're pretty hard hey you made it you know they could have asked our crew crossing the country I have five men whose only job was to protect me I still almost got killed bye draft Deuce those chemical Messengers and then we can give it to everyone he thinks it could be a cure Joel we didn't tell her we didn't cause her any fear there won't be any pain no you take me to her you take me to her right now please you don't understand I'm the only one who understood I do foreign I'm sorry did you say your name was Marlene or was it Brian it's close enough or was it Nancy clack clack well I don't know how this differs from the game with the explanation of the situation is and like how they need to get the Cure and stuff like that but this was a very well done job of like there are no choices here like that we have to do this or else and giving Joel like he's only got one option yeah so this makes perfect sense oh why did he finish let the Bryans hit the flow let the Brian set the flow here we go when the Doom music hits this is some heavy based cello team shoot Brian today Jay I mean really should be saving his ammunition for oh I guess he is he is now no no no I need your gear yeah thanks for the M14 how did you get in here I said unhook her I won't let you take her Marlene wasn't anywhere in that Carnage no can't keep her safe forever no matter how hard you try so what would she decide because I think she'd want to do what's right you didn't give her the twist either what it's all right you're with me take it slow going it's going and styling that minivan yeah it turns out there's a whole lot more like you people that are immune dozens of them he's got the gun in his other hand they've actually the people hurt yes everything okay I feel like this show has made this Choice even more more fraught than more fraud the game ever did because I don't know just I I think it's painting the gravity of what he's doing let me go you've just come after her oh jeez but he's right he wasn't gonna let the world take another daughter away no no but he can't help himself I I but they're also correct that it's like I think where they went wrong is that they didn't explain to Ellie the magnitude of what was about to happen to her they didn't explain to yeah they should have because they were like this is pro this is probably what Ellie wants and they were like well probably is not enough so I'm gonna kill all of you and she's 14 15 at this point she can make an informed decision about her life in Apocalypse I'm sure yeah she had a killer smile again not saying that you don't she's more of us you're more of a smirker than a Smiler Jackson to hold his bustling yeah man maybe that's not what you're wearing me that everything you said about the fireflies is true I swear okay oh boy yeah they were able to do that in 43 minutes well you know I mean if you just do the thing just do the thing that was very that was very well done in showing him just work through the entire hospital with deadening the sound and upping the background music with the cello and the bass because it's just like he's just methodical there's no no he's just he's the horror he's the monster we're showing the gameplay right now yeah I'm just working through this there is I'm yes I'm on God mode right now there's no choices everyone's gotta go I would nothing's gonna happen to Ellie wow that was that was really good I'm not sure yeah I guess I just don't I I feel like yeah yeah you have to explain to someone what what's going to happen yes they have to be able to make that choice yes or even if even if like I mean would that situation have been different if everyone was awake they explained the situation Ellie then makes her choice to Joel they have a seat they didn't throw a flashbang a foot away like I If they were like hail and well met like I like yes flashbang first and ask questions later I guess gets an entire Hospital full of fireflies killed whoops they yes Marlene had a point but she also didn't seem like she said she did they did not tell Ellie and that was their that was their mistake they should have told Ellie so it was an informed consent for every for all parties since everyone took everyone's Choice away that's why the situation happened yeah yeah because if Ellie had looked Joel in the face and said this is something I would I want to do he would have in the longer the short of it he would have respected it he would have respected it but he had it would have had to hurt have have hear it from her mouth yep but yep and that's and that's where this show gets so good because I believe that Ellie would have made that choice she probably would have yeah but it was like not only the fireflies remove that choice from her Joel I'll serve of that choice and I believe that's where the stripe comes from the in the next chapter which what a good place to end the episode an extremely good because it's the lie that really breaks Ellie it's not it's the LIE so next season's probably going to be in about 18 months or so so telling time probably later next year the next I think everyone's been saying like hey the next game is going to take a couple Seasons which makes sense the question is going to I think you're actually expanding the second game into more than one season actually we'll give it a little bit more time to breathe in a way that'll probably land better yes because if anything the second game is like drastic Choice after drastic choice yeah um it becomes a little Relentless yes it does I don't know if anyone remembers but that's when the second game came out there was quite a kerfuffle over it for multiple different reasons some of them like okay enough some of them were like no there shouldn't be no confuffalo over this shut up but it should be interesting I hope that as we tell the story from the second game over the next season or two that the choices they make in presenting this story in the television format help to mitigate some of the things that people had a problem with in the game because honestly I think one of the biggest problems from the game was that after the inciting incidents happened people wanted to do a thing and the narrative wouldn't allow them a choice to do a thing they were stuck on Rails and they're like no no but I I as a player I want a choice yeah I don't want to do this what every time I'm trying to do this you're sapping me and this is frustrating but also it is a game that has been on railroads the entire time so sure sure a lot of people were crying for agency in a way that I was like yeah but you didn't have the ability to like change the plot and and I don't know sure it'd just be interesting I mean because I think like a lot of you know just from like from a game player's perspective do you know when you're in the presented with this choice I think most people are like oh yeah we go through the hospital clap clack we save Ellie absolutely we do so like no one was no one had a problem with this you know not many people had a choice problem in Joel's choice but in the second game some people had a lot of problems with the choices that they couldn't make and I was like I want to make the choice and do the thing stop stopping me so we will see how this goes over the next couple Seasons because it could be quite good I hope that it is and I hope it I hope it doesn't devolve into anything bad that happened when the game came out yeah but we'll have some time to wait for that because it's going to be a while for the next season much like a hot D just didn't come out until the next year anyways oh yeah these HBO shows take a while to make well I mean Let Me Get Set pieces like that it takes a while you know giraffes are hard to come by my friend sure yeah was that a real giraffe I think so huh yeah wow good job on that real draft then yeah so Jay how would you rate episode nine of season
