forsaken do we have some elders in the house that can say the lord's been good to me i've seen a lot of things happen throughout my life but the law has been good to me i wonder if there's someone that can step out of their chair for just a moment and say no matter what comes my way i'm gonna serve the lord i'm gonna dance to them even when i don't feel like dancing i'm gonna praise even when i that's still fighting [Music] oh has the lord been good to you this week you might have fought hell all week it might have been against using from monday to saturday oh but i'm glad when sunday comes because twice on sunday i can lift my hands and i can lift my voice no matter what's going on around me i know that i can give everything every worry every concern everything that's been occupying my mind i can leave it alone at the door and come before the feet of jesus and give my best worship can we do that for just a moment i want you to lift your hands all across this building the lord is in this place he wants to meet your need but you've got to worship him let's begin to worship that's it don't worry about everything else just worship come on oh god we worship your lord we bring you to lift up your faith as they sing the song one more time even in the balcony god is able to reach you he's able to reach that knee that's it right now in the name of jesus lord we ask that you would arrest your healing power upon every sick body every hurting body biscuit by the lord in the name of jesus we find it in the name of jesus we rebuke every sickness of god every pain lord in the name of jesus lord you defeated me you defeated the lord and we give you praise and we give you glory for it we know that you're able to do it [Music] oh [Applause] [Music] thank you lord [Music] thankful for what god did and tabernacle de vida oil in this day and i'm thankful to be here tonight first pentecostal church and i'm looking forward to everyone that's gonna be receiving the gift of the holy ghost tonight i'm thankful for what god is gonna do here tonight and first pentecostal amen because we serve a great god and he deserves great praise and god ain't running out of miracles all of you and looking forward to the word of god amen god got some good things i am truly glad to be home and i retired about a year and a half ago that i came out of retirement a few months ago and here here to fpc and i heard brother jordan this morning uh he was talking about the extravaganza and he called it the extravaganza see young men that are up and coming they don't understand the levels of dad jokes that but the scripture did say that his yoke was easy [Applause] and it doesn't matter if you came here hard-boiled or if the devil scrambled your life up i'mma let you guys join field police department fire department if you're a first responder stand with them as well twenty years ago yesterday a tragedy befell the united states of america and we've been through numerous wars we've been through a lot of political uncertainty but in the face of all of that we want to honor you for your service honor you for your sacrifice we know your job is not easy let's give our how honored it is that we are to be here with you and an honor it is to be with you this fine church as a young man i mentioned this morning growing up hearing the stories and what god had done here in this church and then when i became an evangelist a young man the legacy of brother goder and i'll just let you in on a secret everybody wanted to be in north carolina because it was a land of revival i counted i counted a real honor i'm not just marking time tonight i counted a real honor to be able to be here and i give honor to this great church i'm excited for what god is doing if you have your bible let's go to luke chapter 4 and john chapter 4. we're going to read a verse in each of those and man i'm excited sunday school getting back the bus is running this morning what a what an example this church has been through the years and i'm glad to see things moving forward in the name of jesus and i love deeply the ocean family and i love them so much and i am just thrilled that i get to be here with with boston's coming in later tonight he flew home to take care of church and two brand new adults never been there got the holy ghost this morning amen [Applause] haley is this your first time at here at durham well i'm glad you're getting a taste of it and good to be here brother payton and but most of all that was all it took all them to take care of my grandchild if you don't believe it you should have seen us hauling in the bags last night and uh if i knew grandbabies were gonna be so good i'd have started first with them and uh so she's here with us in the hospitality brother erson i mean it when i say i love you and i'm thankful that you're in my life life and sister jackie ursin we love you so much amen and joseph and ben's and now cheyenne amen what a awesome job tonight wow amen and all these other men of god at the grand convention we're at tonight man it just feels good in here amen amen all right let's go to luke chapter four and verse number 18 the spirit of the lord is upon me no i'm sorry no that's right the spirit of the lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted to preach deliverance to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind to set at liberty i want you to pay close attention to this last phrase to set at liberty them that are bruised bruised now let's go to john chapter 4 and verse 35. seemingly a disconnected passage from what we just read but maybe we'll tie these together jesus speaking to his disciples say not ye there are yet four months and then everybody say then jesus said don't say that he said don't say there's four months and then cometh the harvest behold i say unto you lift up your eyes and look on the fields for they are white already to harvest i want to preach from these two verses of scripture i'll begin by telling a story i'm a southern boy i grew up in louisiana somebody said you're not much of a preacher but you do you do a decent job telling stories so i guess that's what i'll do i'll tell a story today how many want the holy ghost to speak to us put your bible down and lift your hands in your voice and ask god to begin to have his way in this house today god i pray the anointing of the holy ghost we begin to flow from the front to the back the left the right god fills somebody with the holy ghost tonight somebody who's given up on their future thinking life's over they've got a brand new hope today that the holy ghost has stopped by to visit them god give us a mighty breakthrough tonight somebody begin to praise god for what he's going to do before we leave come on clap your hands to the lord and shout with a voice of triumph praise god [Applause] before you seated look at somebody and tell them the kingdom of the bruised and you may be seated the kingdom of the bruised amen just get comfortable i know y'all wanting to go get breakfast now there was there was one part of that ad y'all had i didn't like it said choice i just wanted to graze through page one amen look somebody say you ready listo amen you ready in the late 1800s they were coming to a close and a new century was approaching there was a poor 15 year old jewish immigrant from russia who arrived in the little sleepy southern town of selma alabama his name was sam sam zumari he was it became evident to all of those in the little town of selma he was a hard-working young man he was motivated he was brilliant and he was also curious people had observed this young immigrant boy that was learning the language and learning the culture he had traveled through new york city but had an uncle that was running a dry goods store in selma and trying to find a way to make a living as so many people were traveling to america at that time for hope of a better opportunity and running from oppressive government he arrived in selma and people began to watch as he began to learn quickly he began to become intrigued with the entrepreneurial lifestyle of those around him though he didn't have very much he worked hard he he got there earlier he stayed later but it was obvious that he was keenly observing every part of every business around him and it was in selma that sam saw and then to his delight tasted for the very first time in his life he tasted a banana now those of you that are here today how many have never tasted a banana well if we were in 1890 in the united states it would have been very rare for anyone in this room to have ever tasted a banana bananas were a very rare commodity they had they had only recently arrived through the shipping channels to the united states most had never even heard of a banana in fact life magazine called it the perfect fruit that came with its own container but people didn't know how to open it they were squishing it they were they were messing it up and they they had to give instructions in life magazine on how to appropriately peel a banana what y'all do at church last night we heard banana lessons it was a new import product to the united states and it had somewhere through the course of one particular day sam had seen a banana and then to his amazement he tasted it and he fell in love at first bite he had never seen one in russia he had never heard of it in his jewish family and here he's in this little sleepy town of selma and he tastes this banana and he he's he's inquisitive he's he's he's decided if one's good i've got to get another intrigued he he began to figure out why have i never heard of these these bananas i've never seen a fruit like this and and it was new at salmon and no one else had really had them and as he began to inquire he found out the bananas were quite expensive he began to observe and study to try and find out what was going on he went down to the port and there at mobile he watched as the doctors as they were called were offloading the bananas and he said he said that i noticed that they weren't keeping all the bananas some of you are really listening to this sermon right now as he went down to mobile one day he watched them unloading they were on they were big big i don't know what do you call them stalks not i don't know what you call them big groups of bananas whatever they are clusters there it is it's those big fancy words get me every time they're they're unloading but he was amazed by the evan these were green bananas and as he watched he watched as the green bananas were taken and put into uh uh to rail cars that were there at the port and they were loaded up but then he was shocked as the doctors would take the yellow bananas and throw them overboard into the water he watched as a few poor people would try to catch or make an agreement with with someone before they threw my offer then then he was even more amazed as as he watched people climb into the water and pick up those yellow bananas and he began to inquire he was intrigued why are they throwing away yellow bananas and why are they keeping green bananas he soon learned that the yellow bananas were called the ripes the ripes and they were not good for the american market that was exploding in the big cities like chicago and new york and and into uh the bigger metroplexes of our nation we would have to put them in some type of cooled car put them on the rail and ship them and so here it is sam you really can't take or use the yellow bananas they're too ripe and you can only use the green bananas that are not yet bruised that are not yet messed up and and uh we can only take the green in fact the rights are not worth anything through all the handling and the bruising the shipping and coming out of central america and you know since that time they even begin to learn that you could speed up the process of a banana because a banana doesn't actually ripen on the tree it ripens after it's cut off and and there was a window of opportunity where you had to get the bananas into the hands of the consumer to the grocery store and you had to ship it so the ripes weren't worth anything and they just needed the greens for shipment and the grocery stores and the rights the brews the yellow the wounded they called them the trash but young 15 year old sam stood on the mobile dock and he said if i could figure out a way to get those ripes to selma before they're gone and unedible maybe there's an opportunity so he went at 15 years old he went and found a train going through selma he worked a deal he didn't have very much money but he'd been saving his money he said hey could i rent this car just this this car could i just rent it to sell my that's all i need uh what do you want it for i'm gonna take some rice what are you gonna do with ripes well i know my family and friends they've never got to eat a banana but let's put them on here and he worked out the deal he got the car and and as he approached the train that day i said what are you doing with these ripes he said well i'm taking them to selma the telegraph operator said well you know what they're we're going to go through several other little towns before we get to selma maybe we'll telegraph ahead maybe they'd want some of the bananas i'll help you out sam and they telegraph the head and guess what happened when they got to the next depot at the next stop on the train there were people that had lined up to get a banana they got to the next little town and they had telegraphed ahead there were people ready to get a banana and by the time he got to selma he had run out of bananas but he figured out real quick i got a window of opportunity he went back to mobile and he said i want to cut a deal with you i want every ripe you can give me and in 1899 mr sam the banana man sold 20 000 ripes by 1903 he sold 574 000 bananas and by age 21 this young russian jewish immigrant had made in today's market one million dollars because what everybody else called trash he called treasure he said there's some value in what nobody else wants he began to investigate he relocated to new orleans and he began to travel back and forth to a little country called honduras he purchased about 500 acres of underdeveloped swamp land he learned pretty quickly it was ideal for farming bananas he would eventually take over what was called the united fruit company the united fruit company wound up being run by the name by a man named dulles whose brother was mr dulles that ran the united fruit company you know what i'm talking about and before it was over sams and murray had turned in what everybody saw his trash he had turned it into an empire taking over the united fruit company taking over chiquita banana and then when antitrust laws became too important he had to sell part of his empire to del monte in california he got so powerful brother go there that he took over the land where the railroad was so now he had the bananas he had the boats he bought a shipping company he owned the railroad and the land where the railroad went and he took over and many of the issues that exist in honduras today started with a man named sam zamery he literally started a war why aren't you telling about sam because he built an empire out of what nobody else wanted [Applause] sam the banana man recognized there are some bruised opportunities there are some battered fruit that have only got a little short window but he built an opportunity and he built an empire of what everybody else was thought was too bruised too battered too broken too scarred i came to preach about another fan that built a kingdom out of bruised and broken people he took what everybody else thought was too bad too gone not enough goodness not enough blessing and he made something great hallelujah i came to preach to somebody on this sunday night in durham if you want to know about the god i serve he builds his kingdom on bruised things he takes broken hearts and wounded spirits and broken things and he begins to put them together see the banana man you may be seated wasn't the first to build a kingdom on the scarred and the bruised jesus walked up one day to a whale he sat on that well that day and a lady came to draw water jesus looked at her and said give me to drink and then she said how is it you being a jew ask of me a woman of samaria she knew she had issues as far as those other people were concerned she knew how they looked at her and she never met anybody quite like this everybody else said gone somewhere else but he said i gotta go to samaria she said they don't have any dealings with us too much history not accepted jesus looked at her and said if you knew who it was who asked that of you you would have asked me for water i like i don't know if how you've ever thought of this story but when i see this story now after i read about sams and murray i see the story totally different because it's as if he looks at her and says if you knew who was asking you would have asked me but since you didn't i'm gonna initiate the conversation is anybody glad he went looking for you when you didn't even know you were looking for him i'm glad the spirit of god was walking the streets of durham i'm glad the holy ghost was moving into high school and moving into neighborhoods i'm glad he didn't wait for me to figure it all out [Applause] he said since you didn't ask i'm going to initiate this in fact honey whoever drinks of the water i give they will never thirst again and i like it he was so good at evangelism the very question she should have started with by the time he got through she was asking she said give me this water he had just said if you knew who was giving it to you you had asked for this water he talked a little bit and she said i want that water well go call your husband oh sir i have no husband well you've well said you got five and that dude you're shacking up with right now that ain't your husband i perceived thou art a prophet but really what he was saying was i see your bruises i see your scars what kind of life has this little lady lived five husbands maybe she was the problem i don't know but there must have been something about her because five or six dudes kept showing up [Applause] but the point i'm making is jesus knew very well this is a battered broken bruised wounded individual that is literally in the very throes of a messed up life today he saw her bruises he saw her scars he saw this one who the world was ready to throw away no dealings castor overboard and it's to this have you have you ever paid attention to this it's to this scenario that jesus says the hour is come and now is brother ben it dawned on me the other day as i was reading this story the hour has come and now is the father seeketh for a true worshiper and it hit me true worshiper in the very face of a bruised broken woman with five husbands and been shacking up that is not what i would call true worship that's not what the church down the street would call we want her on our worship team but your god in mind said in this scenario right here right now with this messed up chick i'm gonna show you what true worship looks like i came to tell you true worship is worship that comes from a life that's been broken and bruised you want to see what real worship looks like it comes from somebody that the world's given up on but god didn't god didn't give up on that wounded [Applause] she she was she was she was overwhelmed she didn't even know how to react and she said i know messiah is coming and he will tell us all things and jesus looked at that woman and gave her a divine revelation he said i that's speaking to you am he i'm the one you've been looking for i've been the one you searched for you've gone from five men and six men and only god knows how many health but everything you've been looking for when you drink from this water i give you'll never thirst again [Music] is there anybody glad he didn't give up on you is there anybody glad he had mercy for you in the middle of your mess is there anybody grateful that god found worship out of a broken heart maybe seated [Applause] john said she left her water pot she just she left why she had come that far she was so impacted by this encounter with jesus that she went into the city in verse 29 said that she went through and told everybody come see a man [Music] can you imagine the first one she showed up to tell that to i'm met a man so what's new no no you you don't know this man is different yeah you said that on the third one too no i'm telling you i've never i've never seen a man like yeah you say that all the time but i tell you what evidently it was more than that because by the time brother go there she got through talking the bible said the men of the city had come out of that city and were finding where this man jesus was at i came to tell somebody there's a revival of the bruised there's a kingdom of the bruised because it ain't just that little lady looking everybody in that town was looking they were ready for somebody to tell them about jesus [Applause] and what you may have never noticed is that when that group comes out the disciples are in a staff meeting with jesus and they said hey we got you some bojangles here you still like unsweet tea and a biscuit you still like that still do amen he's the same yesterday today forever [Applause] they said we brought you some bojangles bojangles he said i have food to eat that you don't even know nothing about [Music] what do you mean where did you eat they have a bojangles in samara now and while they're talking these are these are the disciples supposed to have it all together who wouldn't even go into samaritan and while they're talking you know i need i need this whole rope just kind of one two three four five sec just come on up just kind of like we're having a staff meeting right here just kind of hang out i want you to get this picture so we're all talking y'all just act like you're eating like chicken nuggets or dirty rice for bojangles or them blueberry biscuits and jesus has to tell them look up lift your eyes to the field they're already white for harvest in other words he says you're not having to go out and plant a new field going to buy a new lot i've already been working what i need you to do is pay attention there's a lot of hurting people [Applause] and he says to them say not ye that four months then come in other words you've only got a little window for that harvest that's coming out there you can't wait for all the green fruit with all the money in their pocket you're gonna have to find some people that got broken marriages and broken lies and fornicators and drug addicts they're only a few months away from blowing their brains out they're only a few moments away from losing their health but you've got a window come on durham you got to get in the field you got to lift up your eyes there's a kingdom of the ripes they're messed up they're broken they're bruised but that's who he looks for that's who he builds his kingdom [Applause] [Music] come on we don't have a lot of time the world's getting crazy the world's out of control but conditions are right for an apostolic revival the church down the street wants the greens they want them perfect this kingdom if you're gonna make it work sam you're gonna have to work you're gonna have to get out in the street and make a deal you're gonna have to go rent a cart you're gonna have to do some telegraphing you you're going to have to get the buses ready on sunday your year somebody's got to gas them up somebody's going to go knock the door and tell them we'll be there on sunday somebody's got to teach a bible study somebody's got to do a little work but let me tell you honey there's a kingdom to be built out of the rights they don't have the green yet they don't have it all together right they're not going to the big sanctuary and the big colosseum and cathedral but all those ripes are broken and bruised and patterned and when they walk in that door they're gonna feel the power of the holy ghost [Music] [Applause] why are you here because the spirit of the lord's upon me i've come to set at liberty them that are bruised i just for my sake i don't know y'all y'all don't know me except for you folks anybody here come to god were you already bruised and messed up let me see your hand i'm not looking for the greens i'm looking for the ripes y'all remember what it was like boy we forget don't we we forget man just remember what life was like before you got the holy ghost oh now you got that nice suit and you pulled up in that car but when you came somebody had to bring you to church [Applause] some of y'all the the liner of your car was hanging down oh now you got joe vega but you drove a vega to church [Applause] some of y'all had to park to make sure cause you didn't have no reverse in your transmission don't roll the window down it won't come back up oh yeah i hear you but look around at what's been built with the rights this is what god does he takes people that everybody else don't want and everybody else gave up on and he said i'll put my spirit in them i'll put life in them i'll make something great out of them position [Applause] saturday the buses rolled out and they picked up a woman from a broken home a broken life with two children out of wedlock everybody else in the religious world had given up on them she came into the rock church that day and the holy ghost began to work on her her life was so messed up [Music] but what everybody else saw is a broken and bruised life is one of the finest people you've ever met in your life her name's simone simone god is blessed she lived for god she didn't have two pennies to rub together but she was faithful this woman that nobody thought had anything to offer she got a job she got an education god gave her a man to help provide and then she started going looking for her own ripes [Music] and she met a little liberian war child whose parents had fled the civil war in liberia living in sacramento and said would you like to ride the sunday school bus and little crystal and started riding the bus to sunday school she got the holy ghost now she's in her doctoral program works full-time at the church and is a hope corps graduate but you see if they had given up on simone because she was a ripe she had never found another ripe and they're building a kingdom out of what god's done with what everybody else said was no good [Music] [Applause] well you know you don't know what i've done who cares yeah i don't want to know what you've done this church we don't have a confessional booth [Music] [Applause] you don't have to come confess you i didn't die for you you're not going to take my name in baptism what you need to do is just find you a spot and say i'll be one of those rights jesus if you'll put my life back together and you'll repent of your sins you can be baptized in water and those sins will be washed away you'll receive the gift of the holy ghost and be on your way to an eternal kingdom this isn't anything new this is what this church is built on brother urshan my wife and i were talking today everybody sees all the big grand things that's going on in roatan right now sheila told me that she said babe have you really thought the roatan work was at a point where it was about to just kind of falter away and you and jackie stepped in there and nobody wanted it didn't look like much didn't look like much fact just dirt floors plastic chairs the first service we had we had 37 people went there and we had to buy those or rent those chairs that day we had 37 people come and a dog to church [Music] when i gave the altar appeal the dog's the first one to come i said come thank god it came that's a god's honest truth then i made a mistake i laid hands on my interpreter he fell out talking in tongues i don't have anybody else interpret so if you ever do that save them for last [Applause] it didn't look like much brother urshan you saw something [Music] and you saw people that nobody else saw value in and if you were to take a trip to roatan today you'd see an incredible facility with people that are growing and you scratch your head and say how this happened now the the governor comes to the coffee shop every day and the governor's secretary is now a member of the church [Music] [Applause] brother jones said we're we're going to be going over to tagusagalpa and the the the governor's secretary said well how are you going to get there say well we're just going to fly she said well that's expensive say yeah we'll just raise the money i don't she said why don't you take the government pass she said i can get you round trip tickets for each of your team for forty dollars round trip from rotan to tagusa galpa everybody's wanting to go now everybody's wanting to be a part of what god's doing but you see when you see the ripes all you see is the bruised and the broken and the dysfunctional but if you get in there and roll your sleeves up and you go to work there's a people there's a kingdom there's a revival [Music] i don't know what's next this place is already full i don't know i don't know how y'all do the altar call here it looks like the whole place has got to be the altar but if you haven't got the holy ghost and you want it you can get it tonight [Music] well what's the holy ghost it's christ in you the hope of glory it's where that god that created the world moves inside of you and starts speaking out of you and brings creation to pass in your life and everything starts changing [Music] if you need the holy ghost get down here real quick if you want the holy ghost if you haven't been baptized in jesus name you need to repent of your sin and get baptized tonight [Music] but i'm also opening this up there may be somebody the holy ghost is talking to you about getting involved in the work of god some of you've got some co-workers that you've given up on some of you go to school with some people you say well they'll never live for god or they've really messed up too bad no that may be the very one that brings a revival to samaria we got a window we got a window tonight don't don't think you'll come back wednesday night now's the day of salvation now is the acceptable year of the lord you've got to respond tonight if your spirit's been touched and you need the holy ghost or you need a fresh burden to get involved don't you wait till wednesday or tuesday or next sunday you need to step out in that aisle and say god in this atmosphere i'm committing i'm going to get behind the vision of this man of god i'm going to get involved in sunday school and outreach and bible study and and bus ministry i'm going to get him come on say not either there's four months come on we got to get the rights while they're ready we've only got a moment we've only got a moment we gotta act now we gotta act now [Applause] [Music] is [Music] come on receive you the holy ghost repent of those sins god i'm sorry for the life i've lived i need your glory and my life i want to be different i want to [Music] i don't want to be thirsty anymore i don't want to be hungry anymore i want to be fulfilled in my inner man i want your will a man give in exchange for his soul your soul has worth tonight my soul has worth tonight praise god and he gave everything he gave everything and i want to give everything in return i didn't come to give a little bit or a portion or but i came to give him everything i've got i want to pray with everything i've got i want to sing with everything i've got i want to serve god with everything know what that means a person must be born of the water and of the spirit to enter the kingdom of god and we want everybody to know it tonight the gospel of jesus christ amen amen take the word of the
