with thanksgiving and did you come to enter and do his quotes with praise i came to have church on a sunday morning and for the holy ghost to come down in this sanctuary so i need everybody in this place to get moving to put your hands together to lift your voice and sing to sing unto him and to give him glory well bless his name bless his name and everybody [Applause] [Music] let everybody glorify god this morning come on let's agree together lift up that voice to god lord in the name of jesus lord you know every need that is that we are facing in this room because we take these needs before you are our healer you are our provider and we ask god that you take your way we ask god that you'll vote on every circumstance in the name of jesus in the name of jesus the worship of this from 2 to 5 p.m and you can see them for more information then also coming up is a very exciting time we have a 5k color run coming up if you've not been a part of a color run you just better be prepared with some clothes that you don't want to wear again you're going to get color flinged all over you but it's a great time and and it's for the glory of god and it's going to be a time of fellowship and sister jennifer maynard is organizing this event if you'd like to participate you need to register online and you need to do so before september the 12th so that is coming up you want said the more i sat there his word was in my heart come on i need somebody to help me out this morning his word was in my heart like a fire shut up in my bones and the more i tried to be quiet the more it came out of me the more i tried to sit down the more i popped back up the more i tried to tamp it down the more i came bubbling bubbling springing up [Music] let them say so let them say so we want to know your name but more than that we want you to praise god with us we want you to get comfortable glorifying god amen this is a warm-up this is a warm-up not just that we praise him but how we praise him i like praising him with everybody i don't want to just praise him with one color of people can i say that am i allowed to say that is that off if there's that off limits red and yellow black and white they're precious in his sight and i plan on praising god but everybody in heaven so i plan on praising god with everybody down here yes sir well thank you jesus amen we are excited brother taylor and sister megan wood had their baby boy olas gray wood born monday august 30th 6 pounds 13.9 ounces look at this praise god what a blessing what a wonderful blessing sister megan did have a few complications but hopes to be discharged today keep her in your prayers just ask god that god keeps his hand upon her and keeps his hand on this little life that god has given to us if the wood family grows anymore and you talk about blessing yeah praise god they are not messing around they are growing by leaps and bounds god bless them precious people of god yesterday we had our cornhole and volleyball tournaments we had a good time we had a good time played cornhole that was great and i felt like god had his way yesterday i just i say that because i won wait wait brother brother leighton beck with one i hung around the edges long enough to dart in at the last second we had a great time and then volleyball what a time of fellowship and the sausages that were cooked and and the taco salad that was cooked i just i love god's people don't you love god's people we had a wonderful time of fellowship we had a great great time thank you to everybody who stayed and cleaned up and put it together you guys did an amazing job brother beckwith you put together those those trophies for us thank you for that god bless you others of you that worked so hard sister where's sister catherine there you are you work so hard you put that together and help with that so thank you thank you thank you for your help amen and finally our seed money drive we are in the final month we are doing great we thank you for your support we have raised a big portion of what we're trying to get to and we still have a lot to go our golf tournament is coming up our 5k run is coming up and and i think we're going to not just meet our goal i think we're going to smash our goal we're gonna raise over a hundred thousand dollars for the kingdom of god i'm excited about it and we cannot do that without you so thank you for that amen why don't you stand with us this morning we are glad to have a precious young couple that are here they were with us this weekend they ministered friday night and brother andrew and sister lakin parks from js mississippi they're very dear to our hearts sister cheyenne is very happy that they're here we are very happy that they're here this is family and not only that but they they love the lord but andrew is preaching around the country and he is greatly used of god he is expanding his ministry he comes from a wonderful family from california and he's now basing out of jesus mississippi preaching all over we're glad he's here in durham with us this morning he loves god you're going to love them god bless you let's put our hands together give the lord a handcuff of praise for bringing them to us god bless you but andrew come preach to us this morning amen let's direct that hand clap towards the lord this morning come on if he's been good to you ought to give him some praise thank you jesus thank you jesus thank you jesus oh yes the psalmist david the psalmist david said great is the lord and greatly to be praised and what that means is that your perspective of god dictates your praise to god david said when i think about god all i think about is greatness so when i praise him i don't give him just an okay praise but i've got to give him a great praise i wonder if you just take a few moments and give god a praise based upon how good he's been to you uh come on he woke you up this morning he started you on your way you ought to give him a great praise all across the house [Music] come on come on come on come on all across the house from the front to the back from side to side give them a great praise hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah amen amen i don't know about you but i'm excited to be in the house of god on a sunday morning amen more than that i'm excited about the presence of the lord that i fill in this house amen god is in this house and i believe that god wants to do great things in every single one of our lives this morning if you have your bibles would you turn with me to hebrews chapter 11 and verse number one hebrews chapter 11 and verse number one just going to be reading one verse of scripture this morning as you're turning in your bibles i want to give honor to your pastor pastor ershan and his family you guys are tremendously blessed here at fpc durham with first class leadership amen we ought to give your pastor and his family great big hand [Applause] amen i give your pastor double honor great man of god i look i look toward him as an example as what a man of god should be and i give him double honor this morning i also want to give my wife honor she don't usually get to travel with me whenever we go places but she was really eager to come here and i'm not sure why no we love sister cheyenne urschen and brother joseph version our family and not only that but our close closest friends and we're so happy to be with them and spend time with them this weekend and i'm happy to be with all the people of god amen i'm excited about what god is going to do this morning and tonight i have a spirit of expectancy is anybody expecting god to do something amen amen hebrews chapter 11 verse number one just one verse of scripture the bible says now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen amen for the next little bit this morning i want to preach to you from this subject act like you believe act like you believe would you set your bibles down one more time would you lift your hands your voices all across the house would you ask the lord to speak to you in a mighty way god we need you in this house this morning we need your power your presence to saturate us to move on us god up lord we want to leave better than what we walked in those doors today god we want to leave challenge and changed by the power of your spirit god come on all across the house lift up a praise of expectancy for what god is going to do in your life oh come on you ought to act like you believe you want to act like you believe right now with a praise god we expect god we believe that you're going to do something great in our lives oh come on you ought to give him a great big hand clap of praise now [Applause] hallelujah hallelujah you may be seated in the presence of the lord our text this morning hebrews chapter 11 and verse 1 is the start to the chapter widely known as the hall of faith the reason for that title is because in this chapter the writer of the book of hebrews introduces an impressive list of historic figures are heroic figures of heroes of faith from the old testament remarkable men and women who in scripture displayed great amounts of faith some of these heroes of the bible are well-known personalities such as abel moses and joseph while many others remain anonymous to us as you read throughout the chapter you will see how by faith and through faith these men and women did great exploits in the kingdom of god but before the exploits of faith are told and described the author first enlightens us as to what faith is hebrews chapter 11 and verse 1 says now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen to have a clear understanding of faith largely depends upon how we perceive that word substance in this verse in its original definition it literally means a standing under a more complex definition is that which underlies what is apparent and if you amplify it a little further it is that which is unseen yet exists beneath what is visible it then takes on the sense of a foundation the foundation is unseen yet the building above ground is apparent to the eye though the foundation is unseen and is nonetheless real it is sure and it is steadfast in its support and upholding of the building so when the writer of hebrews says that faith is the substance of things hoped for is not really defining what faith is but rather what faith does faith undergirds what we hope for just like the foundation of the building it is sure and steadfast in keeping our hope alive because in reality our hope for a better life should have been crushed and crumbled to nothing long ago but our faith stood strong when those around you said you might as well throw in the tower you might as well give up your faith i stood strong and your faith said that everything is going to be all right when those around you said you might as well give up you might as well stop all that praise your faith i said your everything is gonna be all right i feel like telling somebody in the house today by faith everything's gonna be all right you might have stumbled in those doors today but you can leave in the power of the spirit knowing everything is going to be all right hebrews hebrews 11 and 1 is better understood when said like this faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see when you look at faith in its simplest form it is merely belief so when a child of god believes or has faith in the things he cannot see regarding god like the providing hand the power and and the promises of god though sometimes they are not seen with eyes we believe that they are real and we behave according to our belief if you would allow me to say it like this your faith and your belief will always dictate your behavior that is why you'll see that mother that shows up on a sunday morning and she praises with everything she has not because life's good uh her children might be out there strung out on drugs but she's not praising god based upon her circumstances she's praising god based upon the belief that one day my child's gonna be sitting next to me that's why you see that person that's plagued with illness come into the house of god and give god everything they have not because of the circumstances they're going through but because they believe that one day my body's gonna be healed one day i'll be able to run and shout one day i'll be able to give him everything i've got saint of god hear me at some point in your life you have to let hell know my behavior is not dictated on my circumstance paul said in philippians 4 4 bound in a roman prison he said rejoice in the lord always and again i say rejoice you see but paul understood you can't rejoice in your circumstance because your circumstances will let you down you can't rejoice in finances because your finances will let you down but if you'll rejoice in the lord if you rejoice in his faithfulness you'll always have something to shout about because he's the same yesterday today and forever i wish somebody right now would just rejoice in the lord i i wish somebody would let hell know i don't shout based upon my blessing i shout based upon my belief and i know [Applause] it might not be looking good right now but i'm praising god based upon the belief that the best is yet to come come on let's lift up some praise right james james chapter 2 you would write about those don't believe that faith and works go hand in hand he would say in james chapter 2 verse 18 yea a man may say that thou has faith and i have works james said show me thy faith without thy works and i will show thee my faith by my works james was breaking it down and making it clear to us telling us that there are those that pretend to have faith and belief but their behavior says otherwise but james said my behavior will testify of my belief you know why we obey acts 2 38 we're allowing our behavior to testify of our faith in god we repent we're baptized in jesus name and we're in filled with the holy ghost because we're allowing our behavior to testify that he's able to save us from our sins that he's able to deliver us from our trespass your behavior testifies of your faith so every time you come into the house and life ain't going good but you still clap your hands you still shout hallelujah you're testifying of your faith in god come on you ought to testify right now uh you ought to testify of his goodness you ought to testify of his mercy in his blessing hebrews chapter 11 and verse 6 the score is settled that behavior follows belief as the writer would say but without faith is impossible to please him for he that cometh to god must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him you can't please god without faith because from the very beginning of coming to god in relationship it requires faith and belief that he is the one true living god and and without that faith and belief your behavior will never be affected and you'll never diligently seek him you can always spot the faith-filled believers in the house because no matter what's going on in their life they still diligently seek him because they have faith that he is a rewarder you see he's not a rewarder of faith and belief alone scripture says that he's a rewarder of them that diligently seek him he's a rewarder of behavior that's why when you come into the house we're not just trying to pump you up and and get you ready and hyped up and and get you in this emotional state noah we're trying to make you and trying to push you to the place where your belief and your behavior begin to flow together and your praise and your faith get synced up and instead of just sitting there and saying oh my life's a mess and i don't know what i'm gonna do there's a praise that flows out of you that says my life might be falling apart but god you're still worthy i still gotta praise on my lips because you're a rewarder all throughout scripture all throughout scripture you can find men and women who had great faith and belief in god and their behavior displayed it the bible tells us about a man named noah the bible says in genesis chapter 6 that the word of the lord came unto noah and told him that he was going to destroy the wicked in the earth and he told noah to build an ark that would save him from the judgment hebrews chapter 11 and verse 7 the bible tells us by faith noah being warned of god of things not seen as yet moves with fear prepared an ark to the saving of his house i want you to note that the writer of hebrews tells us that noah was operating in faith and belief in things that he could not see but noah had faith in the word of the lord that came to him and noah's behavior reflected it against what his sight was telling him noah begin building the ark ii corinthians 5 and 7. it gives us a little more understanding as to why noah would build an ark for something that he had no evidence for second corinthians 5 and 7 says for we walk by faith and not by sight noah couldn't see what the future held but noah believed the word of the lord that came to him and so noah began building nail after knell bored after board noah allowed his behavior and his belief to flow together all of reality was telling noah not to behave in the manner that he was but noah's faith was firmly established so much so that for 120 years he kept on building in preparation for something that he had no evidence for no doubt there was mockers and cynics that kept on calling noah crazy that kept on picking on noah that kept on telling noah i don't know why you're still building a hundred years has come and a hundred years is gone and this promise that god has given you has still not come to pass but for 120 years noah just kept on building his belief in his faith in the word never wavered he just kept on swinging the hammer he just kept on building the archive 120 years and he still hadn't seen the promise i i want to tell somebody that has given up on the promise of god that has come to your life it's time to pick it back up it's time to make up your mind i'm not giving up i'm not i don't care what the mockers say i don't care what the cynics say i'm going to keep on building i'm going to keep on god is not a man that he should lie neither is he the son of man that he should repent if god said it it shall come to pass i feel somebody's faith rising in the house right now come on it's been a long time since you believe that that promise can come to pass but i feel faith rising i feel [Applause] [Music] [Applause] ii peter 2 peter 2 and 5 calls noah a preacher of righteousness noah's behavior and building the ark was preaching to the world about a god who could save them from judgment but they didn't take noah seriously they didn't listen to noah we know this because at the end of it all the only ones that boarded the ark were noah and his family but you see that's why it's so important that you keep the faith in the word of god and you allow your behavior to follow because of noah's belief in the word and because his behavior in building the ark noah not only saved himself but he saved his family can i tell you in the house today you will make a difference in your family if you take the word of god for what it is and you believe it and you obey it and you behave accordingly just like noah keep on building god your family is watching your faithfulness to god and one day they're going to see god's faithfulness to you just keep on building god just keep on believing god just keep on behaving accordingly another life another life that exemplifies faith in the word of god is abraham known as the father of faith many stories throughout his life show how great his faith in god was but i believe that the one that best shows his faith and his belief affecting his behavior is found in genesis chapter 22. the lord speaks to abraham about his son isaac and he says in genesis 22 and 2 take now thy son thine only son isaac whom thou lovest and get thee into the land of moriah and offer him there for a burnt offering upon the mountains which i will tell thee of the lord presents a challenge of faith and belief to abraham and tells him to sacrifice his son isaac much opposition was in place to make this as difficult as possible for abraham to believe and to obey the first is that abraham loved isaac as the lord pointed out in verse 2. the second is that he was to offer up his only son which was born of a barren wife and to make things much harder isaac was supposed to be the son of promise but now the lord wants him to sacrifice him it made no sense to abraham much less to isaac but can i tell you that things that require faith usually don't make much sense in the natural realm if it did it probably wouldn't require faith i want to encourage somebody in the house today it might not make much sense right now but take the word of the lord as true and obey it today and watch god work it out [Applause] hebrews chapter 11 and verse 19 the bible says that abraham just just trying to make sense of it all he reasoned that god would raise up isaac from the dead just trying to maybe rationalize all the difficulties the difficulties of the questionability of human sacrifices the the the wife that he would have to face on the morning and the conversations that he would have with isaac on the way up that mountain so many challenges of faith and belief of the word of god that came to abraham and just none of it seemed to make sense i want to preface what i'm saying today i'm not telling you to go out and sacrifice your son no not telling you to go out and do something crazy and extreme but i'm just telling you there will be times in your life when the word of the lord comes unto you and tells you to do something and it doesn't make much sense in that moment and i'm just trying to challenge you and provoke you to take the word of the lord believe it and obey it just just about two weeks or three weeks ago at our local church in mississippi there was a man who who received the check for twenty thousand dollars and he had been fasting and praying previously to this and when he got that check he said he felt the lord speak to him and say give every single bit of it to the church and he said he started thinking to himself and his wife really needed a new car and she had been wanting a new car they had talked about it a lot and he was going to use that money and help her get a new car and so when he felt like god spoke to him and told him to give every single bit of it to the church he went to his wife and he had that conversation with his wife he said i just i feel like god spoke to me to give all of it and she said you know i want that car but if that's what god said i want you to do it [Applause] he came to church that sunday morning with that twenty thousand dollar check in his hand he handed it to pastor robertson he told him the story gave it to him he went on his way before the sun set on sunday evening someone had bought the car in cash and gave it to his wife you see sometimes you've just got to step out on faith and say god it don't make much sense right now but i'm just gonna take your word and believe it and i'm gonna do what you tell me to do god oh come on i feel somebody right now saying okay god okay i'll do it okay god i believe [Applause] abraham had just enough faith to be obedient to the word of the lord even when it didn't make sense and because of that the lord provided the ram and the thicket and abraham and isaac received the revelation that he is jehovah jireh my provider can i tell you when you'll take the word of the lord believe it and obey you will receive a revelation that you never had of him you might not know him to be a healer but you ought to shout and watch him heal you might not know him to be a provider but you ought to give and watch and provide you just got to step out and say okay god i'm going to be obedient okay god i'm going to obey come on come on come on come on that's the behavior that's the behavior that follows belief that's the behavior that says god i trust you god i believe your word [Applause] come on come on just a little longer come on just entertain that presence right now uh [Applause] if you let the enemy [Applause] musicians you can come i'm closing if you let the enemy he'll talk you right out of doing what god wants you to do we see it all the time in giving of our finances the bible says in luke 6 38 give and it shall be given unto you good measure pressed down shaken together and running over you see though the process explained in that scripture to give then it shall be given unto you there has to be a behavior that says okay god your word says if i'll give that you'll give it back press down shaken together and running over but we also know that there's nothing harder than giving when you're broke there's nothing harder than giving when it seems like you don't have enough money to do the things that you want to do to pay the bills to pay your tithes and giving the offering the devil sits on your shoulder and tells you i told you you keep giving and you're going to go broke you keep giving and you're not going to have enough money to do what you want to do just want to tell somebody the devil is a liar the word of god says if you give it shall it shall be given i i want somebody to leave here today with an understanding that the word of god is true and if he said it he meant it if you will give he shall give back to you [Applause] i'm done luke chapter 17. we read a story about ten lepers this story of ten lepers exemplifies what i'm talking about so well this morning the bible says that these ten lepers they sing jesus and from afar off they begin to call out to him if thou can will you make us clean and unlike any other time in the gospel jesus does not immediately heal them you go read other instances where he speaks the word he lays hands on them and they're healed but not in this moment they said we're we're covered in leprosy and if you can will you make us clean and jesus responds to them and all he says is go show yourself to the priest you see that that might not make much sense until you go read leviticus chapter 14 verse 2 and 3 the law of the leper and you understand that a leper was not supposed to come unto the priest until he was cleansed and i believe it's verse 3 the priest would come outside the camp to see whether or not he be healed it is then that you understand that god is speaking to those lepers and he's telling them if you can just act like the miracles already done you will receive your miracle he said if you'll just take my word and go show yourselves to the priest you will be healed [Music] i want you to think for a second about everything that was going on in the mind of those lepers why in the world would i go show myself to the priest when i'm still covered in leprosy oh yeah we show up to the house of god and we say why in the world would i praise god when my life is falling apart and my kids aren't saved and i don't have enough money in the bank account and god is just saying give your praise if you'll behave you just watch me work you just watch me make a way where there seemed to be no way i don't know if the media team can but if you could put up there luke chapter 17 verse 14. luke chapter 17 verse 14. and when they saw him he said unto them go show yourselves unto the priest and it came to pass that as they went they were cleansed can i tell you this morning as you praise as you allow your faith to take form in your behavior god is going to work in your need god is going to touch your body god is going to reach down and make a way out of no way i i want somebody right now to say okay god do it in me uh okay god i i'm gonna get out of my pew i'm gonna come to the front and i'm gonna behave like it's already done i'm gonna act like the blessings already in the bank account i'm gonna act like my body's already been healed i'm gonna act out like the miracles already done as they begin to play and sing as you lift your hands as you praise as you worship as you allow your behavior and belief to flow together god is going to work oh come on come on let that behavior let that behavior testify of your belief come on god's gonna do it in this house i god is gonna do it in this house come on as you praise as you worship he's going forth [Music] come on father as you give him that praise as you give him everything within uh then he's doing our comments he's going forward [Music] come on [Music] god we believe i will not withhold [Music] god [Music] i will is you all if all is [Music] and be willing to [Music] [Applause] [Music] say i will give you i will not withhold my sacrifice and giving you my very best [Music] [Music] i will give you all i will give you all [Music] giving you my very best [Music] [Music] i will give you all i will give you of me i will not withhold my sacrifice is this [Music] and be willing to [Music] will say you up i will give you up is [Music] help me [Music] yes [Music] [Music] with all my sacrifice is less than giving you my very best [Music] and be willing to say [Applause] [Music] will it you all if all is [Music] [Music] and be willing to say yes [Music] i will give you up [Music] is [Music] help me remember [Music] i will give you all i will give you all is what you ask of me i will not withhold [Music] my sacrifice is less than giving [Music] yes i will glory to god glory to god glory to god oh there's a beautiful spirit of the lord here right now thank you jesus thank you jesus i want to act like i believe there is a doctrine out there that says just believe and everything else will just happen that is not completely what the scripture teaches the bible said the devil's belief but there's an action faith without works is dead friend and so i'm gonna become a book of acts christian i'm gonna put my action with my works i'm going to put my action with my faith i'm going to put my action with my belief praise god praise god someone is seeking the holy ghost many times they're waiting on an angel to come down and and wag their tongue for them any time now god any time but i actually open my mouth up and i speak it and the bible even calls it the word of faith and it's nigh unto thee in thy mouth that if you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart you shall be saved that means you open your mouth and speak it and you'll speak with other tongues as the spirit gives the utterance and thou shalt be saved praise god [Applause] if you've never received the baptism of the holy ghost god wants to give you the holy ghost [Applause] sister tamika i remember you and i have a little bible study and we were talking about the holy ghost and and you said pastor you know what what's going on with it how does it work and i don't know about this i don't know about that we talked about the holy ghost and i said if you open up your mouth and glorify god you pray holy ghost is going to come on you and when you do you'll speak with tongues later on day or two later i got a phone call from sister tamika and i didn't answer i was having dinner with my family i leave my phone in the room and i go have dinner and i came back i had a voicemail when i clicked on the voicemail the voice that came over the other line said pastor i got it [Laughter] i still got that voicemail because god wants to do it in you and he wants to do it in you and you and he wants to do it in me and he wants to do it for whosoever will praise god praise god [Applause] thank you jesus take the good word of the lord with you this morning as
