The History of Dahl - Borderlands

today's history of borderlands video we're going to be talking about the doll corporation probably the company we've seen the most remnants of and has always been with an eye shot throughout all of the games so the company was founded by stanton doll the overall brand of weapons they make are designed to be very well rounded across the board with a more mercenary and militaristic consumer base so their weapons are usually fully automatic to burst fire with extremely high levels of recoil reduction so much like every megacorporation after atlas discovered the first vault doll began pouring their resources into trying and hunt one themselves and as we all know if you've played the games the planet they just so happened to land on was pandora researchers scientists military miners just about every single profession you could imagine were sent to the planet with the hope of uncovering a rumored vault patricia tannis was one of the researchers hired by doll to uncover more about the iridian civilization but part of the reason dahl chose pandora to begin with was because the planet just so happened to be in one of its seven year-long winters meaning all of its harsh flora and fauna was either dead or hibernating making it seem like the planet was a safe location to touch down on and it was for quite a long time doll wound up almost completely reforming the entire planet building all sorts of different infrastructure for mining and the sort they built wind turbines and were also the company responsible for creating the echonette a communication system which allowed people to speak with each other across large distances they hooked this up all throughout pandora so they could communicate with each other and as part of a promotional deal they were offering doll would give out free echo huds to any and all new settlers who arrived on the planet their mining efforts were actually very profitable despite not finding a vault they did uncover aryan origin remnants and dug around those locations also amongst the various other structures they created was sanctuary but sanctuary wasn't actually a new building it was a ship a mining ship doll's greatest mining ship and it was sent to the planet to help them mine one of the things doll was mining were crystals directly under where they landed sanctuary a dig team was sent to mind the crystals found in the cavern a woman named elise booth was in charge of a security team where they came across the crystalisks having never seen humans before the crystalisks were very friendly and non-hostile booth recognized this and advised amelia harcek doll's overseer of the mining operation to change locations and leave them be but harchek demanded the crystals from the crystallisks be harvested themselves something that would kill them today a miner found a crystal formation near the alien ruins but it started moving the creature appears perfectly peaceful i don't think it's ever seen a person before blue not now here go play with my hat get there go blue we're calling it blue because of the color of it's uh yeah we saw a couple more of these creatures hiding near the ruins i recommend moving the dig site for obvious reasons security officer booth signing off miss booth while your concern for these creatures is noted we shall not be moving the dig site the dahl corporation has sent sanctuary their greatest mining ship to this god forsaken planet to mine crystals and you have found some please round up the creatures so that my mining team may extract their minerals mrs horchick i don't think you understand you can't mind these creatures they're living beings without the crystals they'll die sanctuary could easily find another dick site my security team and i are not hunting these creatures for you period security officer booth signing off miss booth need i remind you of the terms of your contract your security team is meant to assist my excavation crew whether or not you agree with my policies is irrelevant shut your mouth grab your gun and bring me my crystals like a good little girl booth continuously refused the order and chose to confront harchek herself directly which resulted in heart check killing her she then used booth's death to motivate the other miners listen you heartless [ __ ] my team has guns your team has pickaxes move the ship or we'll move it for you security officer boost you don't have all the guns dear now unless anyone from the late miss booth security team has anything else to say bring me my goddamned crystals they began harvesting the crystallisks and killing them but the crystallists began to fight back and become hostile recognizing the threat doll was posing to them and harchek was killed herself what do you mean they're fighting back booth said they were docile it's bloody kittens give me that gun you coward aim for the blue one aim for the blue one if it wasn't already evident doll wasn't a very ethical mega corporation further expressed by something i haven't mentioned as much of their workforce were made up of convicts and criminals and they were using them as free to cheap labor but as evidenced by those like booth and patricia tannis not everyone was a convict or morally corrupt some were just employees hired to do a job but you see despite the seeming prosperity of their setup and mining efforts eventually winter came to an end on pandora and its true colors began to shine the wildlife and flora came out and began slaughtering their workers it was an environment they weren't prepared for while some soldiers were sent to the planet it was mainly made up of miners and workforce labor while they initially thought that they could weather out the storm it eventually became too much for them and they were forced to evacuate also around the same time the atlas corporation had come to the planet to bully doll away from it due to these two factors instead of extracting the bulk of its workforce they instead saw it more cost effective to just abandon them on the planet which is exactly what they did doll's workforce of criminals and the sort is what would make up much of the bandits and psychos that we encounter and fight against during the games but you see it wasn't just the planet itself doll was attempting to flip upside down in search of vaults they were also on pandora's moon of alphys similarly they did much of what they did on the planet on the moon mining stations and the sort were established all over the place but searching for a vault itself doesn't make money so they needed to be harvesting something else in the meantime for extra profit so doubly they were harvesting the liquid methane from the moon but you see throughout their extensive and reckless mining efforts they made themselves a bit of a mess by almost breaking the moon elpis's surface began to crack and split open and the atmosphere was completely lost this event was known as the krakening doll's ships fell from the sky and countless workers and innocents were killed the residents of the planet were forced to live in much smaller safe havens after this happened doll yet again completely abandoned all of those who were still left on the moon ironically karma seemed to be paying them back for what they were doing as all of this happened just a single day after oridian ruins had been discovered by their mining force so doll abandoned everyone just before their goal of finding a vault could have come true in terms of an official military technically speaking we've never seen them as a collective unit but we have met many who used to be part of it because doll has a tendency of betraying them the first and most official it would seem is colonel hector and his men he alongside a large unit of other doll soldiers were sent to pandora being promised by the corporation that they were going to be rewarded for their efforts on the battlefield by being gifted a planet when they arrived they realized that they were instead tricked and being used as a mining force they did play along with this for whatever reason though very begrudgingly and the soldiers wanted to revolt but hector was capable of keeping them together they did wind up finding an iridian artifact which they presented to doll only for them to be betrayed once again doll trapped hector and his soldiers in the mine they dug leaving them there to die the lost legion is probably the closest representation of a special branch that doll had this specific unit was stationed on elpis before the krakening but after it they were the soldiers left behind you encounter them all throughout the pre-sequel and they appear to have a fairly stereotypical structure another character who used to be part of doll's military was axton the commando from borderlands 2. he and his ex-wife were part of the military and as evident by his zebra turret at least sergeants were equipped with the saber turrets but as we get to here once you're part of doll's military you're there until you die or they abandon you even if you're discharged like in axton's case you will be killed by firing squad axton was only capable of escaping by going awol but for now that does it for the history of doll we've yet to see them outside of their failed efforts of hunting pandora's vaults and they didn't seem to be affected all too much financially by their failed efforts they're still one of the biggest mega-corporations going strong but if there any other history of borderlands you'd like to see me do then be
