The Culmination of the Age Pt 10 - Being Filled With the Holy Spirit - Joe Sweet

i'm so excited about what i have to share today i believe this could be i you know i feel the same way every week but i feel like this could be the most life-changing message i really believe that um this is part 10 of a series i'm teaching called the culmination of the age if we're if our eyes are open and we're doing what jesus told us to do if we're watching and praying then we'll know we're approaching the end of the age agreed and the bible is full of wisdom and full of counsel from the lord jesus christ himself and from his holy apostles who've written in the scripture the word of god for us god's given us wisdom and counsel on how to live at the end of the age so that we can uh live in victory and fulfill god's will and his purposes in our life so so the end of the age can be the best time ever for the church on earth i'll give you another chance god's given us wisdom and counsel so that if we apply and walk in it the end of the age can be the best time ever in the history of man it's a truth i i mean that with all my heart i'm telling you the best days ever are ahead for those who will those who will be diligent to listen to god's word and to walk in the light of his word we're going to have the best time ever i believe that there's people in heaven jealous that were here on earth i really believe that they're probably wishing lord why couldn't we have lived then but that was their time and this is our time i really believe that so we've been looking at the counsel of the lord you know the counsel of the lord makes all the difference listening to what the lord says and doing it makes all the difference as it was in the days of noah so will it be in the days of the coming of the son of man is that true see in noah's day nobody was listening to the counsel of the lord except noah and it'll be the same there's going to be people on the earth that are listening to the spirit of god they're not listening to fear they're not listening to human reasoning they're not listening to human ingenuity not human schemes or human plans but the wisdom and the counsel of god that's what noah listened to knowledge of the end times is not enough we need wisdom and understanding see that's what noah had knowledge is a flood is coming now people will hear that and they can move in human wisdom human strategies fear what do we run to the mountains build a canoe noah had the win the council of the lord he had knowledge but we need more we need wisdom we need understanding so god said here's wisdom noah build an ark but then you need understanding build it this long build it this high build at three levels use this material knowledge wisdom understanding as it was in the days of noah it will be in the days of the coming the son of man the bible in the new testament is full of the counsel of the lord jesus christ and the apostles if we'll prayerfully do what jesus said he said keep your lamps burning and your waist girded and watch and pray and so we're looking at the counsel of the lord for the end of the age and we've looked at some things that peter gave us peter told us that when the lord comes unlike in the days of noah the earth would judge with water at the second coming it's going to be fire fire is going to renew the earth and we're getting it we're not getting a new planet but the surface of the earth will be the works of evil will be burned up and we're going to get a new glorious earth and so uh um peter said seeing all these things are going to be ha ending in this way here's his counsel be diligent to be found by him in peace without spot blameless diligent means the opposite of lazy or distracted diligent means focused fervent faithful so he said do that and be found in peace and live a holy life without spot or wrinkle so that's to counsel the lord john the beloved gave counsel he said uh little children he said abide in him so that when he appears when he comes we may have confidence and not shrink back and is appearing so there is another one be in peace live holy without spot without blameless learn how to abide in christ so when he comes you'll have confidence you won't shrink back in fear oh my god i blew it abide in him so today we're going to learn some secrets on how to stay full of the holy spirit and uh in jesus gave counsel he said in luke 21 36 when jesus was talking about all the things coming on the end of the earth he didn't say get full of fear try to figure it all out he didn't say to do that he said pray always that you may be counted worthy now what he what god's after is a people who who learned to know jesus abide in jesus love the lord jesus manifest his presence and his character and his nature that's what it means to abide in him he's the vine where the branch without him we can do nothing so jesus said pray always that you may be counted worthy so that means in other words pray always lord let me abide in christ let me be hidden in him let him live in me that's what it means to be worthy to walk worthy of the lord there's more details to it for example philippians i'm sorry ephesians chapter four when uh in chapter two of ephesians paul says that god's purpose is to build the church together into a holy h-o-l-y dwelling place of god in the spirit god's plan for the church is the church be filled with the full glory of god and that's ephesians chapter two and then chapter three is the prayer to be filled with the holy spirit and and it really means filled with all the fullness of god he said i pray that god would strengthen you with might by his spirit in the inner man you know that's a powerful prayer if you'll start praying that every day god will answer it he'll start strengthening you with might by his spirit in your inner man but you have not because you ask not but if you'll pray every day god strengthen me strengthen my spouse strengthen my church strengthen my family with my by your spirit in the inner man god will do it and when you if you just pray that one verse you'll have a personal revival he said that god would strengthen you with might by his spirit in the inner man that christ would live in your heart by faith that you would be rooted and grounded in love that you would be able to comprehend together with all the saints the length and breadth and depth and height and know the love of christ that passes knowledge why so that you the church can be filled with all the fullness of god that's that's what now before jesus comes back there's going to be pockets on the earth of communities of believers who believe this they're going to pray it they're going to seek god god's going to answer it and there's going to be communities of people that are filled with all the fullness of god how do we know it because it says in the book of revelation his bride has made herself ready she's given a garment that's spotless and clean that means on the earth before jesus comes back there's going to be a people that heard the call to holiness and they said yes they heard the call to walk with god they said yes and they knew that in their own power they were unable but they knew that they could humble themselves and believe god's promises because second peter chapter one says whereby god has given us exceedingly great and precious promises that by these promises we can be partakers of the divine nature and there's going to be a weak people god's not going to use strong people that are strong in their own self because you'll never make it that way god's going to find people weak enough to know that they have to pray and believe god to have him do it and so god's going to find a weak people but a people a weak people that believes because that's what happened to the apostle paul god brought paul to a place of weakness and in his weakness the glory would rest upon him and paul said i've learned now to rejoice in my weaknesses to rejoice in all that and i now boast in my weakness because when i'm weak i'm strong and so god's going to find not a people who say i can do it but of people who say i believe god will do it i believe god will sanctify me listen i tried on my own for many years i tried as best as i could to be holy and the harder i tried the worse i got the crankier i got the harder you try to be holy on on your own the more miserable you get but it takes anointing in the grace and the presence of the lord and he does it holiness is impartation holiness is abiding in christ holiness is his word abiding in you holiness is walking in love when we abide in love we abide in god anyway god's going to have a people that believe it they're going to be a house of prayer they're going to believe the promises of god they're going to want to do god's will more than anything else and god's going to answer that prayer and glorify a humble people on the earth and they're going to be full of the holy spirit and so but when he when he says in ephesians 2 that we're called to be a dwelling place then the prayer is to be filled rooted and grounded in love and comprehending the love of god so that we can be filled with all the fullness of god please understand i'm not and you're not going to get any more full of the holy spirit except to the degree that we get more full of love please understand that the more that god works in us to love the person next to us the more we can carry the presence of god help me somebody that's the truth there's not another way there's not another way this is the way god is love he that abides in love abides in god so then so we're talking about walking worthy i'm on a little cul-de-sac here for a moment in ephesians chapter 4 he said you're called to be his dwelling place therefore pray to be filled with the love of god so that you can be filled with all his fullness and then ephesians chapter 4 tells us how to walk worthy see jesus said pray always that you can be counted worthy and if we're worthy we escape everything that's coming on the earth now jesus said that i'm going to follow that i don't care what anybody says i'm going to follow the counsel of jesus jesus said pray always to be counted worthy and you'll escape everything that's coming they've some people say when you go to the gym they say no pain no gain i like what rejoiner says he says no pain no pain i want no pain no pain well there's really no in realistically there's no way to to do that because we're all going to have something to deal with but the hard way is the easy way in other words do what god said in the beginning that's the easy way and so he said here's how to walk worthy ephesians 4. i paul the the prisoner of the lord i beseech you i beseech you to be to love one another says with all gentleness lowliness long suffering he said i beseech you to walk worthy of this calling the calling to be filled with the fullness of god with all gentleness lowliness long-suffering bearing with one another in love with the goal of endeavoring to keep the unity of the spirit that's how you walk worthy it's one of the ways you walk worthy philippians chapter 1 i believe verse 14 tells us how to walk worthy that we're all striving together with one heart and one mind for the faith of the gospel he said that's walking worthy being patient through tribulation is called walking worthy so love unity patience so jesus said for the all those have to do with character the character of christ in us so what jesus is giving counsel to the church he said pray always that you would be counted worthy he's churches that have strife and bickering aren't going to be protected churches that walk in the love of god in the unity of the spirit are going to have the divine protection are you hearing me study what it means to walk worthy and you'll see so we've been looking at the counsel of the lord be found in peace without spot blameless abide in him pray always that you may be counted worthy to the philadelphia church in revelation 3 verse 10 he said because you've kept my command to persevere i'll keep you from the hour of trial that's coming on the whole world to test everyone isn't that a great promise so that's what we've been looking at then last week we started looking and this what we want to look at further today redeeming the time so there's wisdom from god redeeming the time so if you have your bible you can read along with me in ephesians chapter 5 verse 15 and this is uh i believe will be one of the most life-changing words that we ever read or meditate on for the hour that we live in ephesians 5 15 see then that you walk circumspectly now circumspectly means you're paying attention you're observing you're watching what's going on it's walking circumspectly is the opposite of walking distracted okay so he said walk circumspectly not as fools but as wise now little parentheses there jesus told us a parable about foolish believers and wise believers and the reason i say that is he told the parable about the ten virgins now they were waiting for their master now an unsaved person is not a virgin waiting for the master agreed okay so these are believers now among believers five were full i hate to call someone a fool they were foolish but if someone's foolish does not make him a fool maybe not maybe we're all foolish sometimes but he said five were foolish and five were wise the foolish didn't keep oil in their lamp that's the flow of the holy spirit it was it would they would get busy and become dry he said that's very foolish he said don't do that so he said don't walk as a fool but wise he said redeeming the time because the days are evil now how do we redeem the time we saw this last week the next verse tells us how therefore do not be unwise but understand what the will of the lord is so there's how we become that's how we redeem the time and one of the prayers that we're praying and i encourage everyone to incorporate this prayer into your prayer life is colossians 1 9 through 11. it's a prayer that god would make known to you the knowledge of his will with all wisdom and spiritual understanding so that you can walk worthy of him fully pleasing fruitful in every good work increasing in the experiential knowledge of god strengthened with might according to his glorious power for patience and long-suffering to keep doing the will of god full of joy so to walk worthy of god every individual needs to have revelation from god on what his will for you is where do you fit where do you put your hand to the plow what is god doing wanting to do in your heart actually who we become is is a higher part of god's will than what we do but they're both important at the end of jesus's life in john 17 verse 4 and in verse 6 in verse 4 he prays at the end of his life father i finished the work he gave me to do then in verse 6 he said i manifested your name so that means the character nature so jesus did two things he manifested the father didn't he say but he also did the assignment he was supposed to do so we both have to do that now when we stand before the lord the highest priority is that the the character and nature of jesus is formed in us that's the highest and coupled with that is our assignment where and how we serve the lord there's nobody in the body that doesn't have a vital and important assignment everybody's part is don't think you have to be here or in a pulpit or have the that's no everybody's part is is important and uh and the rewards are the same based on your faithfulness doing your part my faithfulness doing my part agreed i told you this before when you read in the bible when kings would capture kings it's recorded in the old testament when they would capture them sometimes instead of killing them they'd keep them alive sort of like a trophy but they would cut their thumbs and their big toes off and the reason why is without a thumb you could never hold a sword or do battle with a sword without a big toe you can't run fast you can't be a soldier and so they could have people with no thumbs and no toes and they could have the biggest biceps and the biggest thighs in the world and but they can't they just can't be a good soldier because one little part is missing which means you may have a part in the body christ that's not seen yes see if a soldier is holding a sword and you look at him you don't even see his thumb but take the thumb away and nothing works so it doesn't matter if you're seen or unseen and your part is important and if you don't do your part the whole body suffers yes it's true my part's important your part's important we all have to surrender to god and give him our best because other people listen to me please other people are depending on you to be faithful because your faithfulness before god has ripples that go out and affect others so so to walk worthy of god we to redeem the time we have to know what god's will is and to know it you have to pray you have to pray and ask lord reveal to me make sure that i'm in your will doing what you want so get that settled but then in the in the very verse he's also going to tell us how to redeem the time he's going to tell us what god's will is we read it last week he said know the will of god understand it don't be drunk with wine which is dissipation but be filled with the holy spirit in other words don't look now you could fill in wine you could put in there cookies tv internet in other words don't use something else to soothe your soul get filled with the holy spirit agreed okay so he said be filled with the holy spirit now the greek word it doesn't is an ongoing tense so when it says be filled it's really saying this be being constantly filled be being constantly filled and and this is so awesome i hope you're listening today this is going to be i can't wait to get a few more verses down be being filled with all did you know what you were made for every one of us we were made for god god made you for him you were made to be filled with the holy spirit you were made to be filled with the same spirit that filled jesus christ [Music] you're made god made you as a vessel to be filled with the love of god he made you to be filled with the mind of christ that's why that's how why god made us that we could commune with him that jesus prayed it in john 17. he said father i pray that they would become one as you and i are one he wasn't praying that the baptist and methodists and episcopalians would get together and have lunch that's not what he was saying he was saying father in the same way that you're in me and i'm in you and everywhere jesus went he said i don't do the works the father does the works the father in me does the works philip said to jesus jesus show us the father and we'll be happy he said philip look at me if you've seen me you've seen the father for the father's in me now listen we have the same call jesus told his disciples as the father sent me i send you so now you have been you and i we've been washed in the blood of jesus our past is gone the devil doesn't want you to know that he wants you to keep thinking about your past stop it stop thinking about your past praise god for the cleansing of the blood of jesus read revelation chapter one it says he's washed us in his own blood he's washed us he's made us priests and kings ephesians chapter 1 verse 3 says you have been not going to be you have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places [Applause] ii peter chapter 1 says god has passed tents god has given you all things that pertain to life and godliness they're yours in christ it doesn't matter how bad your sin was turn to jesus confess it he's faithful to forgive and cleanse you of it paul said forgetting the things that are behind me i'm pressing for the mark of the prize of the high call of god in christ jesus your past does not exist kevin zadai was in heaven and he was shown by the lord that our past doesn't even exist [Music] so god's we were made to be full of the holy spirit that's what we're made for nothing else will scratch your itch nothing else will satisfy your heart not even the highest blessings not even the greatest blessings of god they can't do it only the holy spirit only the holy spirit filling you the buoyancy that comes in your heart by having the holy spirit that's the only thing that'll satisfy you nothing else will all the other blessings are awesome our families our spouses are they're awesome blessings and they can't take the place of the holy spirit now he said so if we're going to redeem the time he's telling us how make sure you are pursuing a lifestyle of continually being filled with the spirit because if you're not every every moment that i'm not filled with the holy spirit is a waste of time because unless i'm filled led by and and operating in the holy spirit i'm i'm producing wood hay and stubble and the wood hands stubble are all going to burn up in the fire now he's going to tell us how to be filled with the holy spirit now he says be being filled so it's an on it's a lifestyle now i've met christians and i'm sure that i've done this in the past i don't do it now and i'm and sure many well-meaning people say things like this they say well you know i'm a believer even well i'm a baptist oh well i'm a spirit-filled christian no you're not a spirit-filled christian what you mean is you believe in the doctrine of being filled with the holy spirit but you're not filled with the holy spirit unless you're filled with the holy spirit there's a difference i've met baptists that are more full of the holy spirit than spirit-filled christians i'm telling you the truth i'll never forget when i said i told you this before i was years ago when we used to go to a hometown buffet after church you know when you go it's funny on sundays you go in the hometown buffet and everybody from church is there you could probably stand up on a chair and say hallelujah the whole place would say amen and uh i remember being in line one time and you know i want to just say this you know when you worship god like we did today and you pray and you're full of the holy spirit your eyes open up a lot of times after church you know you hear and see and perceive things in the spirit because you're full we walked into hometown buffet and i saw these three men up in the line in front of me i told my wife i said see those three men i said they're preachers she said how do you know i said i can see it in my spiritual eyes i can see it and i said that middle man is anointed i said he i could see the light of christ all over him the god opened and she said really i said i can see it so we got up there we paid for our food when i got close to those guys i said hey i said how was church today they said oh it's awesome and they pointed to the guy that i said was anointed they said he was a guest speaker today and it was so good and i said what church he said lancaster baptist and i thought my god he's so and this guy's so full of the holy spirit and anointed amen so it's not what doctrine it's not what denomination it's not what church camp it's your walk with god [Music] i could see the anointing all over him i should have asked him to lay hands on me some of those baptists are great preachers remember evie hill he screamed every word i just said my god he was a great preacher and there's good pentecostal preachers too like r.w schambach somebody lift your hands and shout amen [Applause] schambach said i was preaching in chicago and a woman came to me he used to hold the microphone right up to his mouth a woman came to me and she said brother schambach i thought the devil was in hell no the devil's not in hell he's in los angeles he's in pittsburgh and he's right here in your city she goes but brother schambach how do you know the devil's in my city because i can feel him he's right here under my feet where he belongs then he'd always say he'd always say somebody lift your hands and shout amen [Music] but listen only the holy spirit makes you preach good baptist or pentecostal i'm getting distracted you guys need to now he said beef help me uh i have i have 15 pages here i'm on page one he said don't get drunk with wine be being filled with the holy spirit that's ongoing now in acts chapter 2 there were people that went into the upper room they waited 10 days in prayer they were all filled with the holy spirit visible flames of fire were on them agreed some of those same people gathered again two chapters later they prayed again and they were all filled again so being filled with a spirit is in a one-off deal it's a lifestyle it's a it's a lifestyle of staying connected to the vine and having the oil just keep coming just keep coming just keep filling me so now at the end of the age the wise virgins are gonna know how to walk and stay full of the holy spirit all the time that's the wise virgins and it's right here he said be being filled with the spirit that means keep oil in your lamp speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs now psalms and hymns psalms are the word of god so he's saying sing the word speak the word and hymns are singing it right spiritual songs singing and making melody in your heart to the lord that's one thing two now i preached this last week a little bit but this last after last sunday the holy spirit started talking to me and he said i'm not going to let you move off of this verse he said don't you go past it he said this verse is an end-time key to the overcomers we're going to practice this first speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs singing and making melody in your heart to the lord giving thanks always for all things to god the father in the name of the lord jesus christ submitting to one another in the fear of god so now what he's talking about is cultivating a lifestyle of songs hymns tongues intercessions thanksgivings prayers where our spirit is percolating bubbling all day long and we have to practice it we have to be intentional about it and we have and start literally this is a literal thing he's not just saying he didn't just write this so we could read it say what the greek word means and then go to the next verse this is so we can practice it she said blessed are they who hear and do my words so i have every intention of living this verse i have every intention of becoming a black belt in being filled with the holy spirit what i mean by that is you have to practice this you have to pray you have to be intentional to give thanks in all circumstances for everything and singing and making melody now he said that is going to keep you full of the holy spirit amen yes it will yes it will we'll get into now when you're full of the holy spirit i told you this last week you'll have the mind of christ you will you know why christ is in you but if the level of the spirit flowing in your life is down here your soul will take over if you're low if you're running on empty on many christians run on fumes the only time they worship god is on sunday they don't worship god at home they don't worship in the car they don't worship with the when they're doing the dishes they don't pray in tongues all day and so they're running on fumes so you don't have the mind of christ but when we are full of the holy spirit we have the mind of christ so what god wants us to do now what i've learned over the years is i'd get full then i drain out i get full and drain out full and then i've learned as i've grown in the lord i get full and i don't drain out i get less full more full less full more full less full more full and i want to get to a place where i'm full full full full now we can say and think and do things you could be full of the holy spirit right now and you can have one you can start have start having the wrong thoughts or say a wrong word and leak everything out in about one minute you could be dry as a bone so walking with god is staying full of the holy spirit and being sensitive to the holy spirit so you can stay full of the holy spirit that's the overcomers now when you're full of the holy spirit you have the mind of christ i how many know that's true and you can you can make decisions like this because you're hearing the lord so clearly now i'll give you a couple examples and i'm not i don't want to give you a false impression that this happens all the time but these are examples of what happens when my youngest daughter her uh her second child was born they were here in lancaster it's like four years ago and it was on a friday and she went to hospital we weren't sure when she's gonna have the baby anytime so i'm the pastor i came to church to the prayer meeting now my habit is i usually spend at least one or two hours of prayer in the afternoon before we come into the prayer meeting well the reason i do that is i want to have the mind of christ so i spend time in prayer so i it's usually an hour or two so when i come in here at 6 30 on friday i'm already full of the holy spirit and then we worship for another 45 minutes i get more full then we pray for another 45 minutes so it was a friday night as soon as prayer was over we just got the oh she just gave birth right now so i got in my car left the parade and went straight to the hospital and i'm i'm like this how many how many leave church like this how many know what i'm talking about this is full full [Music] so i go straight over to the hospital sit down in the chair we just go in the room my daughter just had the baby the nurse just came in just wrapped the baby in a towel just alive a few minutes born a few minutes she said uh we're going to weigh this baby now it didn't come from my head right here she said we're going to weigh the baby i said it's 7 pounds 13 ounces she weighed the baby she said 7 pounds 13 ounces said we're going to measure it now and i said 19 and a half inches she said 19.5 inches i didn't think that it came right here now that doesn't happen all the time but i use that as i've had things similar happen other times where when you're you just come out of prayer you're driving in your car you've been worshiping for 20 minutes and you're in your car you have the mind of christ so that's why how many have had experiences like that see i wasn't trying my head didn't think oh say the weight i didn't think any of that it came out just just spilled out so when we're full of the holy spirit we have the mind of christ so we're making the right decisions so we're redeeming the time amen the carnal mind the you could have 20 degrees you could be brilliant you still can't figure out what god wants it has to come by revelation so one it gives you the mind of christ now we're going to look at the other things that happen when we give thanks to god always now this this one verse we're looking at what would happen if you and i started practicing just start right now every day when you get up say lord today i ask you to anoint me isaiah says there's a garment of praise have you heard of it he said he'll give you the garment of praise isaiah 61 instead of the spirit of heaven and skull will give you a garment of praise i've been praying this prayer for myself for many years probably at least every morning when i have my devotional time i say lord today will you give me the garment of praise and the spirit of prayer of prayer anointing so that i can go through the day praying in tongues giving thanks singing songs making melody i've been praying this over my family and my kids for years so i pray it every day and i practice it so what happens is you can get you can come out of a prayer session with the lord you've been alone with the lord for an hour or two but that now you don't want to leak you don't want to become dry you have to maintain so how do you do it he said songs hymns spirits songs and giving thanks always let me tell you this complaining is not a little sin complaining is very grievous to the holy spirit it's the opposite of gratitude complaining don't do it whenever anyone starts to complain you immediately displease the holy spirit when someone starts to gripe or complain the anointing will start fly away from you it will don't complain don't complain about circumstances don't complain about other people don't complain instead give thanks now when you give thanks read psalm 100 it says psalm 100 make a joyful shout to the lord all you lands serve the lord with gladness come before his presence with singing no says come before his presence with singing know that the lord he is god it's he who made us not we ourselves we are his people we're the sheep of his pasture enter his gates with thanksgiving and into his courts with praise so god says come before me with singing and thanks and praise and what happens it brings you into his presence now the christian life is not me getting better it's me yielding to christ in me it's not me getting better it's me yielding it's my mind being renewed by the word of god and my will yielding to christ in me so being full of the holy spirit is where all the fruits come from being full of the holy spirit is where all the gifts come from so our quest isn't for me to get better is for me to get better so that christ can manifest now he's in you he's in you he's in me so when we cultivate thanking god praising god giving thanks in all circumstances never complain singing songs and hymns and making melody you'll stay full of the holy spirit when you're full guess what happens fruit starts coming out you're gonna be shocked peace love joy gentleness longsuffering goodness kindness starts manifesting because it's not you it's christ in you gifts will start manifesting the mind of christ the wisdom of god starts manifesting when we practice staying full of the holy spirit god's going to have a people at the end of the age that are walking full of the holy spirit all the time amen so so that's that's one thing so one staying full of the holy spirit the mind of christ two it brings you into the presence the manifested presence of god agreed now what's in the manifest presence of god psalm 16 in his presence is fullness of joy now i was watching a video and i wrote this down uh in in 2011 there was a study to show whether or not music could in fact could affect your environment or your life music no watch subjects were asked to identify happy or sad faces while different songs were playing people so they had happy they had some kind of art in front of them with happy and sad faces in there somewhere they put happy music on and the people listening to happy music struggled they couldn't find sadness in the picture when they put depressing or sad music on you know my baby left me 25 years ago all that sad pathetic stuff that country music stuff i don't know why people listen to sad music they said sad people couldn't see the happy faces they had a hard time now watch here's what they said music made them see things that were in agreement with what they were hearing they said the brain when the brain hears happy music it makes you s look for and identify and see what you're hearing so people that listen to worldly lustful music they'll look for that listen to sad music they'll become depressed so god said rejoice always pray constantly sing songs hymns praise and worship you will happen you start seeing the glory of god i'm not kidding you start seeing the good is what they said happy music created something called perceptual expectation when you hear something through your ears your brain looks to see something similar through your eyes in another study they said singing reduces anxiety singing in the car or in the shower they said but singing out loud releases hormones that flood your brain with endorphins and oxytocin both hormones relieve stress and improve your mood they keep your heart rate and your cortisol with stress hormone levels low says you do not have to be a good singer but sing out loud it reduces anxiety floods your brain with endorphins and oxytocin it makes you see the good and you can't see the depressing things come on it prevents depression makes your heart healthier your immune system stronger and your mood better god knows what he's talking about when he doesn't suggest but he's telling us rejoice always now listen this in ephesians it says singing making melody songs hymns spiritual songs always giving thanks but if you go to first thessalonians paul wrote something very similar to the thessalonians 1 thessalonians chapter 5 verse 16 17-18 it says rejoice always pray without seizing give thanks in all circumstances for this is the will of god in christ jesus now what would happen if we literally tried to obey that he said we're going to start practicing this i'll tell you what'll happen not only will our mood change what we perceive will change why could you why could now when you praise and worship god the praise begets more praise thanksgiving begets more thanksgiving the more thankful the more you praise god the more you see how good he is i wish somebody would help me the more you thank god the more you realize how much we ought to thank him the more you praise him the more you realize how worthy he is of praise the more we thank him and praise him the more our eyes open up and see all of his goodness until we're walking through everybody around us is full of fear their hearts are failing them for what's coming on the earth and we're going glory to god i see the greatest revival coming i see it i see it i see an end time champion rising up i see the bride of christ getting holy i see it i see it i see people getting on fire for jesus you might be seeing bad things i see great things coming but you can't see it unless you praise him and worship him and read the word because the entrance of his word gives light and psalm 36 says in his light we see that's why jeremiah said i found his words and i ate them and they were the joy and the rejoicing of my heart that's why the bible says the entrance of his word brings light in his light we see that's why it says taste eat the word taste and see what will you see taste and see the lord is good so we have to we have to we really really have to do this practice praising god practice it and you'll go through the day how many felt good during worship today you know what happened your brains were being flooded with oxytocin and and all those good hormones and the holy spirit was rising up inside you you know what else happens when you're full of the holy spirit do you know what happens romans 8 verse 11 says the same spirit that raised jesus from the dead lives inside you and he will give life to your mortal body [Music] now watch now watch when we praise god when we practice praising him all stop your complaining stop it complaining will keep you from getting into the promised land read what happened to the jews that complained god said i swore in my anger they will not enter the promised land complaining will keep you out stop complaining about the roads stop complaining stop it [Applause] and i've had to i've had to stop too because every now and then oh and all that you know we can but as soon as you start to stop stop and just start praising god now watch when we start praising and thanking and blessing i mean thank god thank god don't complain about the aches in your body thank him for what you have said my mole you don't know how bad my legs hurt thank god you got one [Music] [Applause] nick voger doesn't have any legs and he's happier and more thankful than most christians i've ever met that guy to me that guy's bad let me know who nick vojrick is i have the highest respect for him he's born without arms and legs and he's full of the holy spirit he's so thankful and so grateful and so full of god lives his life for the glory of god being grateful and thanking and praising god will change your mind and get us out of this stupid dumb thinking into into agreement with heaven now when we cultivate a lifestyle of being full of the holy spirit you will get healthier you'll get more energy you'll get more vitality i know i'm i don't have as much as i want i want to walk into all the christ has for me but i'm going to say this right now i know that i have supernatural energy supernatural health and it's our inheritance in christ so the more that you rejoice always pray constantly give thanks in all circumstance the more you'll be full of the holy spirit and you're and when the holy spirit romans 8 11 says he quickens and gives life to your body now if i'm walking and i'm real low on the holy sh the holy spirit never leaves you but he rises and falls according to our response to god how full we are or how full we aren't has to do with our mind and our walk so if we walk in a way that we stay full our bodies are going to be healthier i'll give you an example i studied the life of john wesley he's one of my heroes god used john wesley to change the history of europe he changed he affected america in fact my own family the sweet family was directly affected by john wesley's life in the westland movement i come from five generations of wesleyan preachers my forefathers were co-laborers in the john wesley movement going back many many years if you look in the history books of texas you can read about my uncle evander m sweet he's in who's who in methodism in america horseback riding circuit preacher in the waxahachie district now john wesley walked with god and changed history he was full full of the holy spirit full of the mind of christ full of supernatural health he rode horseback the equivalent of 10 times around the earth he rode they estimated 250 000 miles planted hundreds and hundreds of churches ordained hundreds of ministers shook the gates of hell and established the kingdom of god in his lifetime here's what he said and people people that knew john wesley said he walked in perfection that he was glowing and he has a book on christian perfection and it's sanctification and he says perfection doesn't mean that you never make a mistake in error or in judgment he said only god can do that you have to be all-knowing he said but perfection in god's eyes is when every motion of your heart springs from unselfish and holy love and he said all believers can and are commanded to walk in that perfection matthew 5 48 jesus said be ye perfect even as your father in heaven is perfect so he said if believers will press for it god will give him the grace and he said you can walk in get in a place in your walk with god where every motion of your heart springs from divine love he said doesn't mean you never make a mistake in judgment but your every motive is pure before god he said that's perfection and john wesley walked was full of the holy spirit in power when he preached signs and wonders in power he and george whitefield were so anointed when they preached that he preached to open air meetings they would used to have to send runners back there would be people a hundred yards away sometimes crowds of ten thousand fifteen thousand people would gather outdoors no microphone and uh before they would preach he would send runners back and said tell the people to get out of the trees because when he started preaching it would be so anointed it would knock them out of the trees isn't that amazing here's what john wesley said he said if you want to walk in perfection he said you have to fulfill this one verse in his first thessalonians 5 16 17 18 it says rejoice always pray without seizing and in everything give thanks he said you'll stay full of the holy spirit and you'll walk in perfection is that amazing this what we're looking at right here how to redeem the time means to be full of the holy spirit and to be full of the holy spirit means that now if i'm thanking god and praising him i can't have offense in my heart i can't be criticizing somebody while i'm praising god we're too busy being full of the love of god amen so now john wesley walked this lifestyle full of the holy spirit here's what he wrote i have his journal in my office not all of it he had he kept journals for years and years and years but i have a summary of some of the highlights of his journals here's what he wrote his own writing he said at 81 years old now this is supernatural what i'm saying is if we cultivate a lifestyle of being full of the holy spirit we'll become immune amen we'll be supernaturally quickened john wesley said and he walked in supernatural health he said i'm 81 years old he said it at 81 he said i have the same energy and the same vitality that i did at age 21. how many know that's supernatural there's probably nobody in this room that's over 40 that has the same energy you did at 21. then when he was 86 now he passed on to glory to 88 at 86 years old he wrote in his journal for the first time i can feel my body starting to slow down he said now when i preach more than twice a day i notice i get tired he said i can't walk as fast as i used to especially uphill and he said i'm taking this as a divine signal from the lord that my home going is near and i should spend the rest of my days getting everything in order so he spent the last two years of his ministry organizing and getting everything ready to run without him and then he went on home to be with the lord so what did he do he practiced this verse songs hymns tongues thanking god in every situation he stayed full the holy spirit he had the mind of christ he had the wisdom of god he had supernatural health now there's more to it i'm gonna i'm gonna try to finish this i'm gonna try to finish the next hour of my message in the next seven minutes something else supernatural happens when we cultivate thanksgiving it brings us into his presence we're full of the holy spirit we have the mind of christ we have supernatural health but another thing happens it when jesus was in the wilderness and multitudes followed him and and here's what they had they had seven loaves they did this miracle twice but in this particular case in mark chapter eight they had seven loaves and a few fishes here's what jesus did he took the loaves and fishes and he gave thanks help me somebody amen see thanks brings you into the supernatural realm yes it does complaining keeps you out of the supernatural realm thanksgiving brings you into the supernatural realm thank god for what you have thank him for what you have if you have if all you have is a bicycle and not a car thank him if you don't have a bicycle and you walk thank him if you don't walk you just have a wheelchair thank him thank him for whatever you have because i'll tell you the truth whatever i have and whatever you have is far more than we deserve and we ought to just thank him so there's a supernatural multiplication there's another thing that happens when we praise god and thank him and sing hymns it silences and crushes the devil yes it does read psalm 8 verse 2 out of the mouths of babes god's ordained you put it with matthew 21 jesus said it's praise so when we're praising god continually god says i've ordained praise to come out of your mouth in order to stifle and paralyze the enemy is anybody hearing this so now i don't have to worry about the enemy i just got to praise god all day long hallelujah am i going too long are you getting this now what now what will happen now it will now when you praise god all the time you're singing psalms hymns melodies what's happening your mind is on the lord agreed thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is fixed on you so now you're going through the day singing making melody giving thanks praising god all day long you're full of the holy spirit your mind's on jesus you've got a supernatural peace you've got supernatural energy you've got health you've got the mind of christ and while you're praising him all day long god is setting ambushments against your enemies that's what it says that's what it says this is not listen this is not a message a pep talk this is the word of god that's what it says it says when we praise read second chronicles 20 verse 22 when they begin to praise god god set ambushments against their enemies [Music] so what happens if we have a people that just practice praising god all day long you know what they are they're walking they're just like a walking atomic bomb for the devil everywhere they go everywhere they go full of the holy spirit they got the peace of god when you have the peace of god the god of peace crushes satan's head under your feet when you're praising god he's setting ambushments against your enemy no wonder john wesley was so bad and he changed nations he lived the verse he praised and worshiped and prayed all day long and he was full of the holy spirit let me see if i can finish here oh thank you lord okay i'm going to try to sum up when we cultivate this one we're continually filled with the holy spirit i want that more than anything don't you we enter into his gates with thanksgiving god keeps us in his peace our praise paralyzes the enemy god sets ambushments against them the god of peace crushes the devil we enter into the supernatural realm we have the mind of christ and our bodies are supernaturally quickened we'd be crazy to not try to live this verse now let me try to close if we're going to walk in this we have to start where we're at and be intentional and practice it and work at it that's what i've been practicing for a long time is in the mornings i always pray and i ask the lord lord anoint me see romans 8 says the holy spirit will help us to pray so i always ask him every day i ask the lord lord give me the prayer anointing today so that when i go through the day i can pray pray in tongues and then i ask him for the garment of praise every day lord let me go through the day singing making melody and all that when you do that now some days i've done better than others i go you know doing good for a few hours and other times you get distracted you get so much work on your mind to get this but you just keep bringing yourself back just keep bringing it back until it becomes an ingrained habit like breathing because in the spirit it is breathing did you know that angels angels in heaven they feed off of so to speak the atmosphere of praise do you know what strengthens them it says out of the mouths of babes god's ordained praise to make us strong who was the guy that wrote the angels on assignment roland buck you remember that in 1977 he had visitations from angels and they told him this they said when we come down from heaven and say we can only stay here for so long he said the atmosphere of heaven is praise and praise makes us strong in in the in how many felt strong while we were praising god today they said so we're strong he said when we come down here he said it's like going into a whole nother we have energy and strength and power but after a while we've got to go back up it's like coming back up out of water and getting a breath of air we go back up and we praise and worship god we get full of power then we come back to earth you ever heard angels ascending and descending so the atmosphere of heaven is praise and it's full of the strength of god amen so we practice thanking god no complaining singing making melody and and praising god all day long and praying all day long and it's i i wrote this down because last week i tried to say it but i don't know the colors so if you're a if you're going to become an expert you have to start with a white belt i want to be a black belt how many want to be a black belt in being full of the holy spirit when you walk into a restaurant the demons go here comes a black belt full of the holy spirit so you might be a a white belt you've got to start somewhere and then you get good at it and now i went all the way till 10 o'clock this morning before i got distracted then you become a yellow belt then an orange belt then a purple belt then a blue belt and you get better at better you can go most of the day keep your mind on jesus praying in tongues oh glory to god and then what happens is you'll feel the buoyancy of the spirit in your spirit all day long then you become a green belt then you're a brown belt and after that you become a black belt i want this church to be a whole bunch of black belts [Applause] and we have to be intentional about it you know god help us that's what i that's what happened to me this week as i was in my devotional prayer i felt the holy spirit say because i've been teaching i was a my intention was to just go right through ephesians i want to get to chapter six and the holy spirit said no you don't you go back on this verse he said i want my people to know how to be full of the holy spirit stay full all day long and you can practice it and so and then take opportunities take opportunities it's who knows how long it won't take that long next thing you know man you're going to be so full of the holy spirit when we all come together this place can explode and and i want i want lost people i want witches i want people that don't know god i wanted to come and meet the lord because there's a community of people that are full of the holy spirit anyway that's how we redeem the time how many know if you're full of the holy spirit you're redeeming the time amen [Music] [Music]
