hello my name is Voya and welcome to my deep guide and well the year is nearing towards the end like oh my God 2023 is pretty much done that went fast and as it's usual in December I start making kind of recap videos and trying to summarize what are the best choices that you may want to choose for your specific needs and this is a video about the best eink devices for different categories of the Year 2023 so let's dive in and the first category in this video would be the best device for writing and note taking as your primary need SL want and I would categorize remarkable two as the number three place in the top three devices that you can choose from for writing and note taking needs its strengths are it's obviously distraction free it is incredibly thin and lovely lovely designed even though it is 3 years old it is still a really really contemporary design and just feels like an awesome device which is a statement to the remarkables hardware design team spectacular job that they did there and also with some of the software uh uh improvements it does have somewhat of an integration into your daily and system which means that the notetaking that you do does not have to remain contained only on the device it can actually kind of be extracted and placed into the ecosystem further on so that it can somewhat slip into your workflow in the second place would be the Kindle scribe why would it be ahead of remarkable I hear you ask well first of all it's cheaper second of all it's faster third of all it has much much better brushes and much much better quality of writing fourth of all it has 300 PPI as opposed to 227 PPI on remarkable too and finally with the latest update they have added the addition of exporting searchable PDFs which function unlike any other platform which really really does uh place and rank Kindles scrip very very high on this list you know as the second place but when we're talking about writing and not taking honestly even now there can be only one winner and one that still dominates the whole kind of category here we're not talking about writing feel and things like that we're talking about your task for writing and note taking and if that is your priority and you want to actually use this device and have the tools at your disposal but a balanced kind of approach between uh distraction free Focus design tons of options that are always at the tip of your hands or fingertips and also unmatched functionalities as far as notebooks versatility goes as far as integration goes as far as offline capabilities goes as far as just pretty much close to everything except it doesn't have a 300 PPI screen well the supernote a5x is still the king in my book for those types of tasks now what's going to be very interesting is to see when a5x 2 finally does come out uh first of all what will the new design the hardware design do to the overall platform second of all there's still there's a chance that the A5 X2 is going to have a 300 PPI screen matching the Kindle scribe and we know already that all of the new A5 Xs and A6 Xs and A6 X2 and the A5 X2 will also have the feel right to uh screen surface which matches the paper like experience like we have have on a remarkable 2 supposedly I haven't tested it out yet so we'll see so because A5 X2 is not out yet and because A6 X2 is not out yet currently at the moment of making this video which is the beginning of December the super note a5x is the winner that I would choose for the category of writing and note taking and the next category would be which is the best device for document reading and document markup so this relates mainly to um yeah research work or that kind of line of work so not just an e-reader like reading books and things like that but focusing on actually working with a device where document reading and document markup and just handling documents is one of your primary needs and Prim primary requirements that you are looking for and in this one the third place would be remarkable to now granted remarkable 2 is extremely limited as far as the e-reader capability this goes right however as a document markup tool it did finally after years and years and years it did get some improvements notably the highlighter how it works the finally we have the portrait mode the for those who are interested in that the expandable margins so that you can mark up a document in The Invisible margins yet they are visible when you export it and you also have that same level of integration with uh your outside tools which all rank remarkable as a not a top Contender but a top three Contender nonetheless in the second place would be the supernote a5x and mainly because the slew of awesome tools that it has and the Integrations and the offline capabilities and the quality of the whole thing pretty much you know spills all the way onto the working with the documents as well so you are able to use now finally the uh half screen mode which is the landscape mode which works better than in the remarkable because of the page flipping functionalities and things like that and overall it's just a far more stable platform and remarkable you don't have an option of actually adding annotations to your highlighted marks which is something that you can do here and plus you can organize these things you can export these things and then you can actually make a far far more robust use out of a document with just a single device and when you're done working with a document you can export a lot of things and then take that off and take it further take that take that work further and as such uh supernote a5x simply gets you further and offers you more functionalities than the remarkable to hence it's in the second place and in the first place probably to no one's surprise is of course going to be the book's note air 3C except with the caveat note air 3C would be the choice if you are prioritizing color content in some way shape or form but for anything else if if you really really don't need the color stuff I would actually recommend that you go with the not a 2 or the not a 2 plus simply because they do not have the BSR or bfr I'm no longer sure is it books speed refresh or books fast ref refresh either way the new technology they have for super fast and clean kind of refresh modes that's not present on the Note Air 2 and notter 2 plus granted so you get worse display performance and stuff like that but the better life is yeah like really really different if you're interested more to like how the note air tree C compares to note Air 2 and the 2 plus you can check out the video up here that's going to be linked so you can see the battery life Compares but for ultimate document reading and write up and markup tools uh it's extremely difficult to beat the books platform and um yeah the thinness the portability the functionality and the ne reader it has a tiny bit of a learning curve but the possibilities that it actually gives you and the flexibilities that it gives you are simply unmatched to any other platform so therefore it's The Logical choice for that type of use case scenario now the next category is which would be the best device for students SL learning type of environment right so in that category I was actually looking at different parameters and one of the key things that that students often do need is actually the ability to record a lecture while you're taking notes and maybe adding audio markup so that you can revisit that and kind of go forther now this is not just for students this type of specific us case scenario specific needs definitely applies to meetings conferences or any other situation where you have that somebody a group of people or one person is speaking and you want to recall that while being able to actually take notes and to synchronize those things your notes with the audio take and the tags that you make and things like that so this is a very very specific use case scenario but also in those use case scenarios is this is an invaluable tool for people so as such I thought that it was worth it that it's going to be placed in a separate category so in that category in the third place I would rather Huawei made pad paper now um this is overall a very very good device if you can still find it because it was limited how it was released but most notably it does have one of the focal points is audio recording capabilities in the notebooks with an excellent tagging system that allows you all of that now it also combines really really good note taking capabilities so overall it's a super super sleek and I think massively overlooked device somewhat for a reason somewhat not that's a that's a discussion for a different kind of uh video but overall in this category I would definitely like to remind you about the qualities that Hua made pad paper has to offer and the second place is going to be the lovo smart paper now yes I know I know it has a lot of negative things absolutely but it does have something that no other device has and that is they're specific albeit I believe it's also a specially paid service I'm not really sure because this platform has everything segmented but if you really need that functionality this is the only device on the market that allows you to actually record the audio uh and sync back to what you were writing at the time of the audio recording and Playback so you can actually scrub to the audio and and see where you were in the note taking process while you were recording that uh uh Speech lecture conference or whatever it is no other platform has that and if that's a very very specific laser point Niche thing that you need you can't find that anywhere else than on the Lenovo smart paper and therefore it RS as number two but as an overall kind of number one device here to I would actually add the note air 3C and this time I wouldn't go for note Air 2 or 2 plus I would go definitely for the 3C because of the speed because of the color and because of the versatility so why is this one in the first place because it doesn't have the super fancy audio recording uh mechanism of Lova smart paper and it doesn't have the extra cool awesome tagging system of the M pad paper but what it does have is everything else so it does have that recording system it does have a tagging system albe it a little bit wonky but it is there so you can actually use it it but on top of all of that it has all of the functionalities that you need which is excellent note taking in write taking uh capabilities and the best document write up and uh reading capabilities as well and on top of all of that it's an Android 12 and it has speakers and it has microphones which means you can watch lectures you can split screen it and then you can watch a lecture and take your notes uh while you're doing that that you can screencast it if you need to on a projector or if you're doing a study lecture of some sort or if you have a presentation for a meeting or for a conference you can actually do that from here so just as far as the sheer versatility power and the ability to integrate this thing into many many different systems uh it beats out pretty much everything else and therefore it's a number one now we get to a more popular type of category and less specialized and that is the best portable e-reader device so just an e-reader device no note taking and the key here is making it portable and in number three place I would rank the latest Kindle paper white simply because it has the best image quality and the awesome awesome uh front light that yeah the Kindle is known for and overall it's just a really really Pleasant thing to use if you don't mind paying quite a bit of money For Those ads that Amazon forces you to have and just reminds you that we own it and everything about you and all of your information anyway on the second place I would rank actually Cobo Clara 2E now that one is not fancy it's made out of recycled materials but it feels really good it is waterproof or Splash prooof or some of those things I would forget which IP rating it has but most importantly it's really really cheap and it does have that awesome Cobo image quality on par with with the Kindle paper white and an excellent uh front light as well but just as a device it just feels a little bit better to me at least than the uh Kindle paper white the format is nicer and yeah just the use case is kind of nicer as a portable all around e-reader uh it's really really difficult to beat the books page granted yes it is the most expensive of the three but it also offers you so much more than any of these three because you have the Kindle library you have the Cobo library and you have the addition of any other document that you may want that you can put on that device and it just now with the speed bump that it got in the page it just works really really good so yeah as far as a portable e-reader goes if you have the money to Splash out on that one you really can't go wrong with the books page while we're talking about portable stuff well the next category is the best device as a portable eote taker or writing device so these are sub 10.3 in devices in that category that are also not taking capable and for me in place number three I would actually Place Books Nova Air 1 the original one the OG one because it that was just a really really well balanced device with a very nice paper-like surface uh uh on top of it and it was very portable excellent battery life really good front light all of these things like a really really good balanced device and no I would not actually recommend the Tab mini C because this is the category is portable just because Tab mini C is small doesn't make it portable by any means because of the weight and the bulkiness it has however if what you're looking for is the books speed refresh technology and really weak battery life and color content as well then you might want to consider Tab mini C but in all honesty that that one would not reach top three in my list at least what did reach the top three list in this category and it comes in the second place would be the M scribe wave the Black and White Edition so this is a very very good combination of uh affordability and functionality if what your needs are are basically writing and note tanking writing and note tanking capabilities and the performance on The mobiscribe Wave is excellent really really good where this device Falls and it falls flat on its face is basically the reader capabilities and the stability and the overall system stability is a little bit wonky but if you just want to have something that's portable and you use it as a writer um yeah you could consider the origin as well but as as you can see it had a flaw which was the battery just went all the way down which is actually not that bad big of a deal on the mob scribe wave and that with some recent updates has been improved so in second place I would definitely recommend that you yeah check out the mo scribe wave and the winner well no surprise here supernode a6x the small brother of the a5x now again here even more relevant because we're just on the cusp of the A6 X2 being released but I don't have it yet and it's not out yet people have pre-ordered it if it's going to ship out now in December or maybe in January I really don't know but we are now in the December in the first week of December and right now as it stands for me the choice as the best portable e right taking note taking device would be the a6x but with a huge asterisk which is if you are interested and you don't have it yet and you're checking things out definitely keep your eyee out on a6x to because it sounds at least on the paper and everything that they're showing it looks like it might be a really really good and more capable uh variant of an already existing excellent platform so yeah uh a6x right now as it is but it's extremely likely that the A6 X2 might just take the cake from its predecessor and the final category would be the best old rounder eink tablet device so what does that mean well that's when basically you do a little bit of everything and you need your device to be able to hop onto the internet to uh play some music to play an audible book to serve as an e-reader as an eote taker as a document write up tool and all of these things and able to integrate anywhere that you want and as such in number three I would rank the how fitting I'd really did did not plan this it just went there um tab Ultra c pro so the power of this thing cannot be matched with the new Snapdragon 855 well it's not new but it's it's 5 years old but the new for this world of devices with the Snapdragon 855 CPU it really offers unmatched performance to any other device so if what you're looking for is like topnotch performance and top-notch functionality is at the really really dire cost of battery life because it's bad um then yeah definitely tab Ultra c pro is worth considering but it does cost a lot in the second place I would actually place the tab Ultra C the non-pro version because it's cheaper um and because it has a better battery life it has exactly the same capabilities and functionalities as the C uh tab Ultra c pro except that it's a tiny little bit slower it's a lot more battery efficient and it has the color content and all that kind of stuff so you get basically uh everything that you need all the good stuff of the tab Ultra c pro at a slightly cheaper price and much more battery life but for me personally the winner of this category has to be the tab X simply because yes it does not have the camera okay granted so that is the exception that you have to kind of think about but everything else is so powerful and this 13.3 inch format with the book speed refresh technology and with all of these functionalities and everything it is just an absolute monster Powerhouse of a device especially because when you do a split screen on this monstrosity of a display you get basically to almost like 2 10.3 in devices here and that just makes multitasking and and versatility of functionality unmatched on yeah to the tab X the only thing that I would kind of add as a note here is tab X makes sense if what you're looking for is the tab user uh interface experience so the widgets and all that kind of stuff and also if you really need the bfr or BSR whatever it's called BSR I think it's called but if you don't need any of that I would actually recommend you to try and find a good condition Max Lumi 1 not two two sucks but Max Lumi 1 is also an exceptionally good value for money especially if you find a good one secondhand gives you all of the advantages of the tab X but better battery life and yeah it's just like a really really well-balanced device there are some things things that I don't like about tabx but the overall impression is really excellent but if I were able to actually choose and buy for myself a 13.3 in device and was choosing between a brand new One Max uh Max Lumi 1 and tabx I would actually go for Max Lumi 1 so that's something to kind of keep in mind but as we're talking about what it is that you can buy now tabx is the alternative that's currently available and before we close out the video I just wanted to add one honorable mention that doesn't really fit into any of these categories and it didn't even make the top three of any of the categories but it is intricate enough that I believe it deserves a special mention on its own that would be the quaderno A4 Gen 2 this is a limited device this device has poor battery power and as you can see it's off and it's always going to be off and has lots of things that are negative about it but as a raw just pure digital paper replacement tool there's very few things that can actually match the writing experience and The Sensation that you have on this one because it genuinely feels like you're writing on the surface of the screen all of the other devices they have varying distance between the surface that you're writing on things like that this no this one is basically your writing on the screen itself second thing the writing surface very very very paper- like therefore extremely Pleasant and with some of the latest updates you're actually able to integrate this device to a vast vsh kind of uh ecosystem Google Drive and maybe Dropbox and things like that and document markup and writing so if what you're looking for is very very very minimalistic experience but very paperlike experience and all you're looking for is note taking and document reading and markup so those two categories combined quaderno Gen 2 A4 really really worth a look so those are my Impressions and my opinion what I try to kind of make a balance between objectivity and my personal preferences and personal impression of these and kind of mush them into one as my general recommendations for these types of categories that I've listed in this video please do let me know in the comments down below two important things first one is which categories do you feel that I should or maybe could actually address that you feel might need to be addressed and maybe if there's valid ones that um yeah are actually something that I obviously missed maybe I'll do a follow-up video until the year ends so that we can cover that and number two for me it's far more important is to actually hear back from you guys your feedback and your opinion and your impression regarding these different categories and what do you think what you agree with what you disagree with why etc etc because it's interesting and it's extremely useful to hear different experiences different real world experiences because other users learn from it I learn from it as well and yeah it's just a win-win all around I hope that found the video uh useful or
