hey what's up everybody welcome back to the wind channel so we've got another body armor plate test for you guys um this one is from tactical scorpion gear and this is their level 3 plus body armor plate and I've been over this several times in my other videos but I want to reiterate that 3 plus is a bit of a made-up term it's an industry term and it could mean something different depending on which armor company you buy your armor from so for example the the three plus rating from tactical scorpion gear could be different from another armor company so what you really want to do is make sure that you pay attention to the claims of the manufacturer before you know you make your mind up on what plate you're gonna buy acta cool scorpion gear sent me this plate to do some testing on you know I let them know what I plan to do which is five five six from a 16 and a 20 inch barrel this is the 20 inch barrel AR that we'll be using you guys know that you've seen my other armor videos where we clamp the plate to like a wooden block which is a little bit harsher then having it up against something soft but I've done all the other armor tests that way so I want to continue it for a good comparison the thing to note about this plate is it's really thin this is point one nine six inches thick that's a decent amount thinner than the quarter inch plates that you see from most other companies so some some claims by tactical scorpion gears this is through hardened steel rather than surface hardened steel they claim some competitor views and and that hardness level is actually higher than what some other people are using so that's how they're getting better rating from a thinner plate so we're gonna find out today normally when you see 3+4 steel body armor you'll see a velocity number associated with it so they'll say a ghost it'll pass the NIJ level three tests for 308 and then it'll stop green tip at this velocity and m193 at this velocity and my experienced steel body armor plates have very little trouble stopping green tip I mean it's it's just too slow and I actually believe it's a little bit of the bullet construction as well having that little steel piece at the tip I think it's actually worse so what we're gonna do today is focus on m193 I've got a couple different kinds here and what I want to do since their testing showed like you know he sent me the test that it showed that it passed 966 feet per second so what I want to do is use a 16 inch barrel and gets one of these rounds to be about that 70 2960 right in that range just kind of prove you know their claim and then then we'll step it up I have found this independent stuff to be some of them hotter m193 so that's typically what I use is that so let me get a plate out there clamped in the block I'll load up a few of these rounds to try and figure out what velocity on that and get one to be right there at twenty nine sixty or whatever then we'll step it up to the faster rounds and as you can see we've got some pretty rare weather here in North Carolina so it is kind of windy I'm not sure if that's coming through the mic I apologize if it is but let me get this set up hey so it turns out that that American Eagle that newer military-grade stuff they just came out with that newer label box it's right in the ballpark so that was the first shot and you can see this is not their build-up coating this is just something to you know cover up their steel so it's not this is not one of their build up coated plates but that was the first impact and then the second one was actually right there and you can see it stopped both of them no problem there's a very small dent on both in the front but very very little dents in the back I don't know if you're gonna show up on camera but there's a tiny one there and a tiny one they're very very small and the first shot gave a coronagraph error so that's why I had to do the second one and it was 29 43 which is fantastic because we wanted to be right there at the 29 66 like they did in their testing and and that's great we we came in right at the velocity we wanted to so now I'm gonna step it up to the other test that I've done to competitors plates we're gonna do the same gun the same distance and same everything we're just going to switch to independence and 193 mo there's the third impact from the independence in 193 and I don't know how well it shows on camera but there's a significantly bigger dent there then I'm those ones and you can actually see on the back a little bit of the coding kind of broke off there and there's a small little dent more pronounced in the top to which I doubt you can see so there's a little bit bigger dent there on the back and you can see the coding started to bubble off so it's pretty impressive for that thin of a plate and like I was saying that independent stuff is a little bit harder you can see 3,000 and 93 feet per second so over 100 feet per second faster so I guess now we'll just step up to the 20 inch barrel with the independence all right I flip the plate around so that I have a fresh spot to shoot at and you can see the independence m193 from the 20 inch barrel poked a clean hole right through there I'll show you the back see there where it came through so actually not as fast it's a cold day in that ammos cold actually did a different video on that when we got 31:29 out of the 22 barrel i've chronograph that same exact brand of ammo at 3,400 feet per second from a 20 inch barrel so you guys know how it is though from round around you get some variation and certainly when it's cold out you know if it's the type of powder that's affected it could slow down a little bit all these shots were taken at about 30 feet I know people frequently ask that so I think what I'm gonna do now is wrap this video up will just kind of summarize here looking at the different shots so as far as what the manufacturer claimed you know no problem whatsoever if for sure does what they say it would taking it a little bit beyond what they claimed you know it still worked still work fine and then obviously push anything to its limit you know that that m193 from a 20 inch barrel is very very hard to stop now do you get the label and stick it back on a lot of times when you hit these steel plates and label pops off the back so give you one more look at it I would agree with the three plus writing here this is for sure stronger than your average you know level three steel body armor plate it's just very tough to stop that I'm 183 from a 20 inch barrel so if you guys have any questions about the test do you want to see any other rounds you know we've still got a decent amount of real estate here we could hit this with a few more rounds I was gonna do green tip but quite honestly it just it just does not go through steel plates I've shot that at probably the weakest steel plate that I have ever tested from a 22 inch barrel and it didn't go through if this if this plate was able to stop m193 at over 3,000 feet per second for sure it's gonna stop green tip out of basically even even a bolt-action hunting rifle I may I may come back and do some m855a1 because I think that'd be kind of interesting to see if that'll go through from a 16 or not from a 20 I have no doubt now but from a 16 that'd be pretty interesting to see so we'll do another video we'll try that and maybe I'll give you guys a chance to give me some feedback on this one and see if there's anything else like I said I think green tips a waste of time we can try the 50 grain TSX that stuff's pretty brutal on steel but if you guys have any other suggestions you know drop a comment you guys know I answer those and I'll put a link to tactical score beam gears website in the description so you go check them out if you want as always I appreciate you guys watching the channel I'll catch you next time
