we give honor to the god of the bible the god and father of our lord and savior jesus christ the one in whom we live we move and we have our being we give honor to the set man of this house our pastor and our leader bishop patrick l wooden singer amen clap your hands for him on today amen and we honor his lovely wife first lady pamela wooden on this morning god bless you first lady we honor his first assistant elder john on machuco his second assistant elder anthony wilson amen to these mighty men of god to all the elders to all the missionaries district missionary moles we honor you on this morning and to our founding mother mother willa d turner amen it was her husband superintendent james he returned the founder of the upper room church of god in christ we honor you on this morning amen and to my mother the the president of the mother's board will honor her and to each and every one of you god's holy children to the board of directors amen give god another praise on this morning amen how many of you happy to be in the house of the lord on this day this is a wonderful day 40 years ago the upper room church of god in christ amen that held his first official dedication service on august 16 1980 establishing it as the upper room church of god in christ amen we have so much to be thankful for amen let's give god another hand praise [Music] at this time we're going to have our invocation by elder daughtry miller old testament scripture by district missionary margaret mose new testament scripture by deacon jimmy spring then we will have our statement of the faith a statement of faith by evangelist joyce pickett then i hear mother morning by elder corey mcneal for all those who can we ask you to please remain standing during this time my soul loves jesus oh my my soul [Music] [Applause] what a friend we have in jesus all of our sins and grief to bear what a privilege it is to carry everything to god in prayer a father in heaven we thank you for this day god we thank you because it is a day of celebration we thank you god because you established the church of god in christ superintendent james h turner oh god it was you oh god that showed him a glimpse of glory and he said these words i really don't want to come back here matter of fact i'm ready to go lord god he left here and went home to be with you but you made a choice of that time pastor patrick l wooden senior and god it was a moses and a joshua oh god time in our lives for you said moses my servant is dead take this people and go over this jordan as i was with moses so shall i we thank you we thank you because god you've been with us all of the time down through the years the highs and the lows it was you that was with us and it was a jehoshaphat moment [Music] when the enemies by many was coming against them and he said lord i don't know what to do but our eyes are on you he said oh lord god of our fathers ought not thy god in heaven and rule is not over all the kingdoms of the heathen and in thine hand is there not power and might that none are able to withstand thee god we thank you for that moment for we have been there but oh god we realized that you was with us all the time we thank you god for the 40 years that you've blessed us and god we pray now as we celebrate we pray for the eternal family the founding family and god we pray for the wooden family well god for you have sustained and you have kept us you've kept up a room on the move oh hallelujah god wherever you took us you went with us and we we have the blessed assurance and knowing that you are god you rule in the heavens and the earth you rule in their father men no cause there was a moment of david and goliath when david said is there not a cause hallelujah enslaved the giants thank you jesus oh thank you god there was a moment i say a moment that said cry loud and spare not lift up your voice like a trumpet show my people their transgression in the house of jacob their sin oh god we thank you there was a paul moment hallelujah there god even today our a man of god is crying out saying i'm not ashamed of the gospel of christ it is the power of god unto salvation to everyone that believeth to the jew first and also to the greek god we thank you we thank you as we celebrate today we thank you as we wish of you today we thank you as we magnify you we thank you as we glorify you well god because of who you are you are our god damn we thank you for it for your main wave and you open to it you call your face to shine upon us god you never left us alone but you were declaring lord i am with you always even until the end of the world we thank you for it we praise you now oh god we prayed that you would look on our man that you would continue to bless him continue to anoint him continue to lead him and guide him to continue to order his footsteps oh god as he acknowledged you you said oh god thank you jesus glory to god you will instruct him and we thank you for it we praise we bless you now for all things that's going to be done in jesus name amen reading from the book of proverbs 14th chapter 11th and the 34th verse the house of the wicked shall be overthrown but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish righteousness exalteth a nation but sin is a reproach to any people we'll be coming from saint luke chapter 16 verses 16 through 18 and he reads and simon peter answered and said thou art the christ the son of the living god and jesus answered and said unto him blessed are thou summoned by jonah for flesh and blood have not revealed it unto thee but my father which is in heaven and i say unto thee that thou art peter and upon this rock i will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it [Applause] opposition i believe concerning sanctification we believe in the sanctifying power of the holy spirit by whom dwelling the christians are able to live holy and sacrifice life in this present world amen [Music] [Music] uh yes [Music] um [Music] amen thank god we thank god for all that i as i've seen in our years have heard we thank god amen for this day amen for this is the lord's doing and it is marvelous in our eyes we thank god at this time we're going to go further into our program we're going to have a two-part welcome on this morning by sister teresa turner amen she will be followed by evangelist crystal ahmanshuku they're coming in this order and after which we will have a musical selection from the upper room praise team amen let us receive them as they come [Music] foreign good morning saints it's so wonderful to be here and the irony is 40 years ago august 16th 1980 i was tapped to give the welcome address for the first service of the upper room church of god in christ so it's wonderful to be here i'm so glad to see you one of the things that was different for us is children upper room was not the first church that my father preached out but what was different for us is that because we were a little bit older we became builders we became part of the kingdom work so that means welcoming you to the service for a welcome address or we were the choir we were the devotional leaders we helped um our cousin cousin beverly and her girls helped set up the service the sanctuary before the service and we helped take it down but we were so happy to do it because we wanted to be part of kingdom building and we are so glad to be able to welcome you to the kingdom building service for today and we pray that you all feel welcome and that you feel the power of the lord and that the power comes down on you and you leave different than when you came and pray my strength in the lord [Music] today we celebrate 40 years of history at the upper room church of god in christ amen we celebrate our founder the superintendent james henry turner whose living legacy lasts and touches us today we greet and we thank god for all of his family who are here mother turner we love you and greet you this morning all who are here this morning we are so glad to see you i am here to also celebrate and to acknowledge 33 years of impeccable integritous biblical foundational progressive innovative and forward-thinking leadership of our current pastor bishop patrick l wooden senior amen we thank god for him leading us and being a man of this time we know that he has spoken to the supreme court he's spoken to the general assembly he's spoken truth to power he's spoken on many facets of our society but just as they say that duncan that america runs on duncan we know that upper room runs on preaching we thank god for a man of god who preaches the unadulterated word of god not only do we celebrate our founder and our current pastor but we also celebrate all of you as upper room i believe amen if our bishop were here he would confirm and say he is here if he were speaking now he would say that a leader is nothing but a person taking a walk if there's no one behind him together over the last 40 years we have lived out the mission of god first god first in government god first in marriage and education in our churches and in our communities together every weekend week in and week out every time our area needed a church we heeded the call and we took the god first message to our communities cities our nation and our state so we all have so much to celebrate today if i were to give our future in a few words i would only say that god is exalted the devil is defeated and jesus is lord we pray that you have a god first experience so [Music] anybody still in all of the presence of god today [Music] standing in your presence [Music] we're in awe of your glory [Music] with our hands lifted and [Music] standing in your presence we're in awe of your glory with our hands lived in [Music] of your glory we gonna lift our heads [Applause] to the god of the bible jehovah's oh [Music] to the comforter to the holy spirit [Applause] [Music] and we revenge your name [Music] we're just amazed that you've got and reverence your name everything we just want to reverence her not just that nobody we just wanna be pleased be pleased with the sacrifice would you open up your mouth oh come on and reference him wherefore god has highly exalted him and given him a name above every name that at that name jesus every knee shall bow every tongue shall confess him that jesus christ is lord that shall we worship today jesus christ the savior the only one that died for our sins the only one that sacrificed it all that gave it all up for my sin we ravage him today come on and give him glory come on and give him glory come on and give them glory this one's for the king this one's from the king to the matchless to the incomparable to the only one that was he is and he's still to come this cause driven church we thank god i thank god for what the upper room has meant amen i'll never forget over uh what 16 20 14 years ago because of this church my wife is the land of the living amen in this church my children were born in this church bishop i said that the upper room joining this church is in the top five of the greatest events of my life being saved marrying my wife the birth of my two daughters and then joining this church my life changed because of the upper room church of god in christ and i believe that's there so many that sitting in the congregation today can say the same thing because the upper room [Music] amen has meant a lot to each and every one of us bishop wouldn't say we don't just come to church but we're coming to have a god first experience clap your dedicated membership august 16 2020 bishop patrick l wooden senior pastor 40 years amen she started back in july of 1980 this is a distinguished uh presentation she's in a category of one amen and at this time bishop wooden and first lady wooden has a special presentation bye praise the lord we're gonna ask our daily beloved founding church mother mother willa dean turner if she will stand it reads we would like to present to you mother this plaque and it reads 40th church anniversary in esteemed honor and recognition of the foundation that was established by your husband superintendent james h turner senior in appreciation of his vision exemplary example and servant leadership of the upper room church of god in christ given this 16th day of august 2020 bishop patrick l wooden senior pastor [Applause] that's right our founding mother our pastor know how to do things right amen he's a class a bishop i'm sorry we do have one more i think we should have got that one first but we do have one more presentation and this presentation without this incredible lady um the upper room would have never become the church that it is when the late great james henry turner founded this church he founded the church on a vision from god with support from his wife and family but the persons that he founded the church on was a beautiful young lady named beverly beverly turner and their family and odell and those beautiful daughters were the upper room church of god in christ she served as a distinguished board member and has been a part of the fabric and fiber of the upper room and her dna is all over this place god bless beverly please come forward paul we love you and we want to present this to you [Music] this lady right here come on let's give it to her board member a hard worker and she served with distinction and honor until her beautiful daughter married a handsome man and they started awesome church in charlotte north carolina and we had her until grandbabies came and i knew the show was over beverly we love you thank you we honor and acknowledge you thank you bishop first lady bishop we ask you to please just stay right there in that position for just a few more minutes extra ordinary leader bishop patrick l wooden senior for your passionate spirit-led god-fearing god-fearing leadership to fulfill the assignment of upholding god's truth by defending the christian faith with tremendous courage we honor your extraordinary devotion and immense contribution to the upper room church of god in christ bishop we want to say thank you [Music] for your leadership for the last 33 years we thank god for you amen as sister armachuku said you're not out taking a walk you have followers and we're proud to be followers of your leadership thank god for you [Music] and we recognize your wife who stand faithfully beside you for the church dedication was held on saturday august the 16th 1980 but on that very first sunday morning august 17 1980 bishop wooden pastor elder wooden at that time a young minister under the leadership of superintendent turner preached the first sunday morning message at the upper room church of god in christ and i remember him saying from time to time they were not married at the time but he would go to his leader and say is it okay if sister pam arrives with me sometime amen so from the beginning in the infancy stage i remember at this time the board that's the foundation of god stand ashore having this seal the lord knoweth them that are here that everyone that nameth the name of christ depart from iniquity if the foundation be destroyed what can the righteous my god first lady as they always say you are the fragrance of this ministry we present you with flour bishop patrick l wood sing we honor you we honor you first lady we honor you because you've been right by his side down through the years you know when the tough get going folk leave [Laughter] but we thank you we thank you because you know you've been a fighter and you've been right by your man's side i appreciate that [Applause] [Music] that demonstrated so much because i always say to the pastor bishop i like what you have taught and what you have done for the young people to marry to have children and the church grew from within and then the lord sent levels into the vineyard from without bishop we thank you we honor you because you built on another man's foundation and god knows the walls didn't get crooked they didn't fall but they're still standing and we honor you for that we present you faster than that praise with you and god knows we pray for you we pray for you every day and for the ministry and we honor you because of what god is doing in your life god bless you thank you [Applause] let's give it up to all of our recipients on this morning we thank god upper room we are blessed we are tremendously blessed now we're going to have greetings from missionary beverly hall who you heard she was the charter member amen after which we will have mother willa d turner our founding mother and then we will have greetings from our first lady first lady pamela wooden they're coming in that order thank you good morning i give honor to my lord and savior jesus christ i do honor appreciate and esteem the president bishop of nc third jurisdiction and pastor of the upper armed church of god in christ bishop patrick wooden senior i also give honor to his lovely wife first pamela first lady pamela wooden i give honor to the board of directors all of whom are my dearest friends and brothers in christ i give honor to the memory of the late superintendent james henry turner the founder of this great church i honor his lovely wife mother willa turner and i give honor to all whom honors do it is most certainly indeed my humble honor and joy to be here today to celebrate the 40th church anniversary of the upper roman church of god in christ 1980 is the year in which this great church was birthed there was no building no congregation and at the time no guarantee that the call to this work would be smooth and easy but this did not hinder the mission and vision from being carried out this 40th anniversary is a milestone year and today is a special day when we look back to reflect and celebrate this church's founding its history and its kingdom impact to this congregation city and nation doubtless this church means so much to me and is an integral part of my life it is here that i learn among so many things the nature of church work from serving as an usher a nurse a hospitality worker a testimony service facilitator a choir member secretary superintendent of sunday school sunday school teacher bookkeeper board member i learned that church is a lot of work i have so many great and fond memories i remember worshiping at the raleigh safety club on branch street upper room's first dedication service in a building on martin street and when that building was condemned i remember services relocating to my home just a few blocks over from this current building i remember worship services being held in the kitchen of my home i remember hurrying home from work rushing to prepare and eat dinner and then setting the kitchen up for service putting out chairs putting up hold the podium for the man of god i remember services were then moved to the community building in the garner road trailer park again not far from here i remember the motorcade from the trail apart to upper rooms first church building on lake wheeler road i remember many sunday morning services elder patrick wooden senior was sent to preach at the upper room church according god in christ then the baby church in the district i remember elder wooden senior appointed pastor when god called superintendent turner home i remembered the church experienced exponential growth on lake willa road and quickly outgrew that building i remember the fire marshals received we received repeated citations from the fire marshal because the building always exceeded this is the capacity of the building always exceeded the building's limitations i remember upper rooms next purchase on center for road just a few blocks over and once again the church grew exponentially i remember the building of this beautiful sanctuary where we're sitting today i remember all the meetings with the bank weekly meetings with the architect lee reynolds lee reynolds and barbic construction this all under the dynamic and faithful leadership of bishop patrick wooden you know it's so i remember i have so many fond memories and i could go on and on and sharing the kingdom impact of this ministry but time will not permit me to do so but as we reflect back we can truly say god has been good my family praised god my family and i we drove we got here a little early so we drove around we visited uh lake willa road and we visited elder everest drive and we visited santa fe road and we visited the church that used to be ours right across on santa fe road and i'm telling you we can say god is good he's brought us from a mighty long way you know my life is and has been blessed you know you can't be around greatness in the midst of greatness and it not affect you you know elisha was blessed because he was there when elijah was taken up so my life has been blessed from being a part of this great ministry literally from its beginning and my life continues to be blessed even now as i live and worship in charlotte north carolina under the nail leadership of another great man of god pastor gabriel rogers yet my foundation is noteworthy i received christ was filled with the holy spirit develop a biblical worldview and learn how to live a godly life here at the upper room church of god in christ under the leadership of bishop patrick wood not only have i been blessed by this ministry but this blessing has trickled down to my grand to my children and my grandchildren all who are present here today praise god pastor we my family and i love and appreciate you so much eternally we honor your devotion your dedication your love for god the things of god the people of god and your stand for christ in the face of all opposition so on behalf of me and my family we want you to know that the impact of this church and your leadership will always be invaluable to us matthew 16 and 18 jesus says and i tell you that you are peter and upon this rock i will build my church and the gates of hell should not prevail it shall not overpower it god continue to shine on the upper room you and first lady god bless you [Music] [Music] [Music] praise the lord i will bless the lord at all times his praises shall always be in my mouth i was blessing the lord in 1980 and here i am still blessing the lord in 2020 when i look back over my life i can truly say as the song says god has been good to me hallelujah praise the lord and i just thank god for his goodness how he has been with us yay these 40 years i give honor to my pastor and my bishop bishop wooden and i praise god for my first lady first lady pamela wooden thank god for my district missionary and to everyone in the building all the elders ministers and missionaries uh and just each and every one of you thank god for mother elsin coming in hallelujah praise the lord but because of her praise god her son stands here today as pastors as church for in 1966 when bishop wells sent elder turner to um rockingham he went there to hold the church together to bishop wells because sitting somebody else well 1967 when we got ready to get married three weeks before the wedding we uh we had come to raleigh to put in applications for jobs application for a place to stay because this is where the lord has sent him and this is where we're going we're going to start our life three weeks before we got married bishop was called in and said i want you to stay in uh rockingham i haven't found anybody to sit in there yet i said oh no praise the lord they keep cross crossed my mind said you know we should postpone the way until he sent somebody well we pray he decides to obey his pastor and he went stayed in rockingham and he preached the word of god there like he preached the word of god here but during that time mother ellison came to church then she went back and she got uh then but then she wasn't even brother wouldn't but she can't but she went back and she got her son and tom he's back there garcia and they were singing and i said you know when i look back over things i said now god was orchestrating this day back in that day let me know that you know if we trust god we can never go wrong you see we can't see everything but god knows the beginning from the end he knows the future that we cannot even see and he kept on preaching kept on working and um wooden became brother wouldn't then he became elevated and uh then he came passively and thank god he stayed with him and worked with him and and now he became the pastor of this church and i just thank god because 13 years after the lord first talked to him about coming to raleigh the lord began to speak to him again in 1980 he came to raleigh knowing nobody no place to have service we went to the ymca and i was looking at the pictures a few days ago and i saw chris on there with the bungle drums james was the bum girl drum i was beating the tamarine when i saw bishop wood's hand raised you know the camera caught him in a praise hallelujah so he was there even at the ymca and down through the years praise god and when everybody was trying to get the other rooms the other proper room grew so fast you know at first it didn't but when we got on lake miller road upper room grew so fast some everybody was trying to start to die everybody was somebody everybody was trying to get you know get the upper room i know the uh the banker mr green asked him when we got to got a church on um lake villa road he said what you gonna do with that big church with them few peoples you have and he said i'm gonna fill it up and he filled up the upstairs downstairs and people were outside couldn't get in for the service he filled it up then we got ready to go home you know what when i thought about when i looked back you know only i said we were going from place to place like this beverly said but he didn't leave us until he got us a church building he was he he got we were in that building three years before he died and the lord had filled it up but i thank god for how that how the lord worked things out pastor wooden called me and he was already in a coma in the hospital that's the the and the revival was already set so he called me he said well do you think we should go on with the revival i said yes because alternate didn't stop church for anything even when it snowed and everything he said but let the people come who can come the ones who can walk let them come he didn't close church so i said go ahead with the revival not knowing that he was going to go on to heaven and leave us but he died on a thursday morning the revival was closing out on a friday night i found myself in the house of god on a friday night my husband had just died on thursday morning but i just thank god looking back god orchestrated everything even the things that he couldn't fulfill in his life has been fulfilled through his son in the gospel thank you jesus hallelujah glory to god oh hallelujah when you witness what god can do if you get out of the way and let him do it praise god he always said he wanted a school he said we teach our children at home and then we have to send them out to the second of the schools he said you know i wish we had a christian school and uh it was already in the works you know we had gone to see a building a school building that uh was up for sale that had a little chapel on the uh on the you know on the grounds but in the meantime he got sick but look at god how that that school pastor wooden bishop wood was able to do that school for so many years hallelujah praise god he started the food pantry you know and it's still going on it's still we're still feeding the hungry we are still helping those that are in need and we thank god for how this was going on we fed the college students and we had a campus ministry and this all is still going on and oh i thought my time was up praise the lord but i just thank god hallelujah glory to god god is so good so good he has brought us from our mighty long ways [Music] hallelujah hallelujah now thank god that his neighbor hallelujah was not in vain and highly swell in the gospel reaching hallelujah all over this world hallelujah god is so good i'm just so glad for the upper room church of god in for my bishop bishop patrick elwyn senior you know we got the greatest first lady in the world thank you jesus and i just thank god hallelujah for having six of my children you know today thank you jesus i love my family god gave me children when when the devil the doctor said i would never have any hallelujah bless the lord he blessed me o god thank you for my daughter district missionary cynthia littles carrying on the work praise the lord when i listen to her when i listen to a bishop wouldn't i says oh my god if they don't sound like their father in the gospel when i saw and heard my son singing on today hallelujah just last week i said lord i wish i could hear my son preach and sing again and here he is singing thank god my my husband had told me to don't worry about the children he said all my children are going to be saved and i thank god how they're saying and they're working in ministry thank you lord james wants to be here today but if he leaves new york they will they stop you when you're leaving and then they stop you when they're coming back he said mama we would be able to get back in new york for 14 days and the children have gotten ready to go to school well all of us have a love for the upper room because this is where god sent their father and i enjoyed working with him we were team in the gospel i miss him to this day but i praise god for his son thank you lord thank nice [Music] well clap your hands for the lord dean turner i thank god for this amazing woman of god to our district missionary missionary mose um to a missionary uh beverly hall god bless you to first lady stephanie rogers god bless you and to the entire turner family uh to sister beverly's family and to all of the saints the members of the upper room to my family and to everyone who is present here today we thank god for his goodness and we thank god for his multitudes of tender mercy we thank the lord for 40 years that god has blessed us to be here that god has blessed this church to be in existence my husband has been here for 33 years as the pastor of the church and the lord certainly as as has already been indicated has used us to do great things to do great exploits for his glory but i think it would be befitting to say that it's been because we had a awesome foundation amen in the seven years that superintendent turner was the pastor of this church uh the lord used him to establish a firm foundation that we have been able to build upon and everything that we have done from uh september 1987 until this day has been upon the foundation that superintendent turner and mother willard dean turner has built and we we are yet standing upon that foundation we are yet building upon that foundation and we give glory to god for the things that he has done and for the things that he has allowed us to do and i tell you it um moves our heart to no end to have mother turner here she is she is an example she you know just to look over at her um her presence stands for something her presence stands for um our foundation it's a reminder of who we are where we came from um it's a reminder of of what superintendent turner started 40 years ago and i'm just honored to have been a part and to have played a role i thank god for my husband what an awesome man of god he is and has been down through the years these 33 years uh the lord has certainly used him mightily i thank god for you you and especially you god bless you and pray my strength in the lord [Music] bless his wonderful name [Music] elijah and elisha turner and wooden the founder and his successor how many of you remember the connect the dots this is a form of a puzzle containing a sequence of numbers number dots to be precise when a line is drawn connecting the dots the outline of an object is revealed in adult discourse the phrase connect the dots can be used as a metaphor to illustrate an ability to associate one idea with another come with me on this historical journey on this journey we will examine the life and story of two sets of men of god the parallel of the biblical example of elijah and elisha and superintendent james h turner and bishop patrick lane wooden senior it was 40 years ago to this date august 16 1980 the official dedication service of the upper room church of god in christ took place the pastor and founder was superintendent james h turner a giant in stature and a giant in the faith and one of his faithful ministers was young patrick wooden as i researched the lives and history of superintendent turner and bishop wooden i could not help but see the correlation between elijah and elisha see elijah was elisha's mentor much like superintendent turner was bishop woodens elijah was a man of iron and is presented in many ways he was a mighty intercessor praying with faith and intensity a god-inspired prophet ready to obey and trust god like elijah superintendent turner had these same traits and qualities they both presented their bodies a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto god which was their reasonable service the prophet elijah and superintendent turner both shaped the history of their times and molded the thinking of many for centuries and years after their transition the anointed superintendent james h turner left an indelible impression on one mind in particular the mind of pastor wooden few successors in scripture were as effective as elisha who was elijah's replacement as god's prophet to israel elijah prepared elisha for his commission and the two became devoted to each other this was the same testimony from the lips of our founding mother of the upper room mother willa d turner she said that minister wooden was dedicated to superintendent turner in first kings 19 verses 19 and 21 verses 19 through 21 we see elisha did not mistake his prophetic summons was decisive he burned his past behind him and i want you to see the dots connecting like elisha bishop wooden embraced his calling he left his football days behind him and he had a made-up mind to serve the god of the bible and the god of his superintendent according to second kings chapter 2 verses 2 4 and 6 there is a pattern of commitment a pattern of servitude and a pattern of allegiance three different times elijah said unto elisha terry here i pray thee and elisha he didn't argue he didn't ask for an explanation he didn't say give me insight so that i can know he simply said as the lord liveth and thy soul liveth i will not leave thee when superintendent turner called bishop wooden followed bishop wooden wanted to be fathered mentored trained and developed and bishop was willing a willing participant hear me bishop wooden was a willing participant in god's plan by staying close to the late great superintendent james h turner his spiritual father elder wooden carried his briefcase just like elisha had a great example to follow in the prophet elijah bishop wooden had the same in superintendent turner and as elisha remained with elijah until the last moments of his teaching life on earth bishop wooden did the same with superintendent turner elisha much like bishop wooden was a man of dauntless courage a man of force and might a man of remarkable foresight a man of unerroring counsel bishop wooden much like elisha is a man of indomitable faith who preaches god's indomitable word in 40 years god has blessed us here at the upper room to only have two pastors and the constant that connects all the dots is that they served the same god the god of the bible and because superintendent turner and bishop wooden were on one accord the upper room ministry has been able to do great exploits many babies are yet living today because of the upper room hundreds of thousands of families have been fed because of the upper room god knew in his infinite wisdom that he could trust superintendent turner to lay the foundation of this work and to start this ministry and superintendent as well as god also knew that they could trust bishop wooden to keep the legacy alive the dots are connecting in heaven and the value and the purpose of the upper room has been and is yet being revealed one thing is clear from the foundation till now it's all about jesus come on put your hands together for the god of the bible and we're resting on our feet all over the sanctuary first there's going to be a video that give your attention it won't be long it won't hurt over us we've seen many things in the 40 years of the upper room my pastor saw so many things in my 33 years of being here we've witnessed victories defeats good things high notes low notes but one thing we've never seen we've never seen the righteous forsaken noah's seed begging bread and all we can say to the lord when we look back on our time here it's been 33 long and short years you have to wonder where does the time go what a mighty god how many can look back on their lives and see what the lord has done and how many will tell the lord thank you thank you for all that you've done for brought us from a long way thank you for where you brought us from here for all that you've done raised up turner and brought him to this city and all that you do you've been faithful to me lord i to his wife first lady princess haines the daughter of this church to my own mother amen district missionary mose evangelist lester to all of our mothers today to mother williams god bless you mother president of our mother's board the deacon board and all of the saints of god to the upper room church of god in christ who has been a constant force to be reckoned with for the last 40 years when elder turner came to this church when alternate came to this city he was a game changer things changed in the city when he arrived his presence his ministry his preaching changed things i was talking to a baba who cut his hair when he was living and said that elder turner would sit in the last chair at the barbershop cross his long legs and chris he'd have to move his legs over when people would walk past him trying to get to the to the bathroom because his legs were so long they'd block the hallway the barber told me he remembers his distinguished loud voice as even in the barbershop he made a difference in the opinion of all of us he caught the wings of the morning and went home way too soon but god knew what he was doing i thank god for my pastor i guard his memory and legacy 33 years later like i did when i first came he was my leader my teacher we were never equals we will never be equals we will never be conrad the servant is never as great as as is lord the student never catches the master all that i am as a minister of the gospel i owe of course to the lord jesus christ but the lord jesus christ used someone and oftentimes we skip over the vessel but it was a man that god used that my dog and mother introduced me to thank you mama for taking us to the temple thank you for your timing [Music] tom we were just getting ready to get crazy for real and we met elda turner and what el eternal brought to my life was two things three things brought christ but in christ he brought law and order i heard i met a man that i had to obey we never had an argument we never disputed back and forth praise the lord he was my leader and i'll never forget in greenwood south carolina remember went down there started a revival i went with him and he was supposed to preach two or three nights and then leave it with me but something went wrong in raleigh and he had to leave and come back to raleigh he told me he said now you preach the revival and he looked at me and he gave me the greatest compliment up until that time he said i'll be paul and you be silas and paul went to raleigh silas finished the revival and the ministries went on i'm it is true what my wife said about the foundation but to add to the foundation the reason i still stand here today is because on his deathbed he blessed me he blessed me he pointed his finger at me and he said hey the last words he said to me was hey i looked back at him because the nurse came in interrupted us he said you know you're my son don't you and i said yes sir and before that he told me you got to preach the word he said the people will come to hear you he said you got to preach to him there's so many ways that the devil can trick you look out for them but the people are going to come and you preach the word i said ella turner oh man you're going to be all right you're coming back to preach he looked away from me and said yes i know i'll be fine then look back at me and said preach the word i have written on this map preach the word same thing that paul told timothy the same words my pastor gave me and from that day to this day i have tried to preach the word let us praise god for the memory the legacy of the late great james henry [Music] [Applause] turner [Music] what a man 33 years later his memory and greatness still rings a tear [Music] his influence lives on i am eternal right chris that's what they used to criticize us call us back in the day and then rocking him look at him he's eternal right i said you're right i never fought uh being identified with my leader the pupil identifies with the teacher amen people say you're trying to be him i've heard all that and i hear people who who don't have spiritual sons criticize some of the spiritual sons here they think that but they they're trying to be you know you don't understand sonship in most cases sons take on the ways of their fathers it's called you're not trying to be someone else but there is such a thing as osmosis it's spiritual osmosis who i don't trust is the son or the in-house elder who is always trying to be different that's the spirit of a heifer always trying to break out of the stable the right spirit is one who with pride this is the house this is where god have placed me this is where i will serve mother turner you and your husband have been good to me you've been good for me i love you i thank god for you you're quite a woman may god continue to bless and keep you i thank the lord for how god raised you up amen and enables you to be here today thank god for district missionary cynthia little a woman of god indeed a woman of god indeed she has been she uh is in the family the turner family she was embedded in the turner she had turner dna when i got saved long before uh i even came along she was right there and lo these many years later you can't tell by looking at it cause she's a beautiful lady god has marvelously blessed her and we honor you today thank you for coming thank you thank you mr beverly we can't talk about this church and not talk about you amen she mentioned that she was the uh among things the bookkeeper and back in those days she kept the books with pencil and paper and and when as we began to innovate and get better and [Music] incorporate better means of accounting it only highlighted highlighted that her method the things that she did was always accurate always trustworthy never a dime a penny or anything missing or anything done wrong everything done above board a fierce protector of this house a guardian of the house a part of every loan that we negotiated a part of every bit of property that we purchased everything that upper room accomplished you were right slap dab in the middle of it on our board and uh and we love you and we salute you and we thank you we thank you we thank you to see her beautiful daughters adults now grown up beautiful young ladies all of them and it just rejoices my heart to see you and to see what you've become and the wonderful people you are look at first lady stephanie and a first lady indeed we honor you today thank you so much and you tell your husband i love him he's a one of a kind man and they have a tremendous ministry kingdom ministry taking place up in charlotte north carolina and i tell you god has blessed them and is blessing them in a miraculous way i want to thank you sister tara and and i'm going to get to the word and we won't be very long today um for your continued uh faithfulness and um i remember when we were appointed you were you were you were here you the oldest of the uh the uh turner daughters and and lo and behold all these years later she sent me a text the other day that really blessed my heart and she said thank you for being my pastor and for just preaching the word of the lord you have no idea what a blessing that was and i appreciate that would you give her a big hand and all of the of the family that these families amen um teresa you're awesome today email email is a warrior i thank god for my family i thank god for my wife who have stood by my side uh as my girlfriend then my wife as we did this have done this uh journey together and then we got married and had two she gave me two children and i was just blessed you know i just love crystal where she's uh she that she is right there and as she was up uh carrying on the day and singing and serving in the church i just look at her and i'm so proud of her proud of my grandchildren patrick was here he's on the crew they clean between the 9 30 service the 8 o'clock service and the 10 o'clock service they come in and make the church as pristine and uh in case covet 19 got in we kill it everywhere all the pews everything has been uh each one everything has been addressed and uh so we appreciate him i appreciate her i thank god for my grandchildren amen training my grandson he he's saying but we got him you see him running around changing the microphones and all that yeah you got to do all that in the in the in the work of the church i'm grateful for my son-in-law who serves as my first assistant and he was doing a tremendous job god bless you all much for your hard righteousness thou shalt be established thou shalt be far from oppression for thou shalt not fear and from terror for it shall not come nigh thee behold they shall surely gather together but not by me whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake behold i have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire and that bringeth forth the instrument of his work and i have created the waster to destroy no weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn this is the heritage of the servants of the lord and their righteousness is of me save the lord for your consideration the 17th verse says no weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper i want to preach from the subject no weapon father bless us now as we minister the word of the lord may we do no damage to your word but preach that which become of sound doctrine and gospel in jesus name amen the lord spoke to me on last sunday night god gave us a mighty service last sunday the morning service and the evening service and and how the lord blessed us dealing with how god delivered the children of israel uh from uh pharaoh and egypt and how the lord sent the deaf angel through and how god said when i see the blood i will pass over you after that mighty move of god in that mighty service when service closed and i went uh after i went home and enjoyed my wife's cooking and enjoyed the presence of my family uh the time came to retire for the evening i got on my knees and i prayed i said god what do i say next to the people of god the lord spoke to me he said it in parts initially god said no weapon then i heard the lord say no weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper then the lord spoke to me and said preacher encourage my people so today i'm preaching to you a word of encouragement no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper no weapon that is formed against me shall prosper no weapon that is formed against us shall prosper even though there are many weapons even though there are many weapons formed and they are powerful and they are shooting at us they are uh they've been they they're aimed at us they are beaming into our homes we contend with them every day there are those who have a vested interest in keeping the believers afraid and keeping churches closed and keeping americans off kilter and keeping people wrapped in fear and the enemy is attacking uh any uh sign of hope tony fauci said this about temperature checks the other day and as you know when we have our services uh everyone who comes who enters the sanctuary uh has to have a temperature check thank you so much for your patience and how you work with us and uh there are many other things that we put in place to um to try to fight against the uh covet 19 virus uh this pandemic we do not assume that it is that it is not real because it is we do not not take it seriously because we do um but we do believe that there is a way to uh combat this virus and also worship in the house of god and i tell you this is our 13th sunday back since we reopened after being forced to close by the governor of our state the moment the governor was overturned we had a plan in place thank god for sister patricia lester whom god had given the plan to three weeks prior to the governor being overturned the moment he was overturned i made two phone calls i called her and i called my first assistant everything else fell in place and the very next sat sunday the next day we were worshiping here in the upper room and we've been worshiping ever since and we have not had one coveted 19 outbreak thank god this is our third sunday uh we're going to a 8 a.m service because we discovered by 9 30 on sunday mornings we had turned away over 50 cars or more people coming and they can't get in because with the social distancing we don't just social distance six feet apart is six feet in diameter so this is why you see the the the openings because we're trying to trying to go by the guidelines and keep people uh safe and so uh thank god for our visitors many of the visitors would come at 9 00 and at 9 30 and a quarter 10 and sit patiently for the 11 o'clock service many of the members weren't accustomed to coming that early to wait for a service so when the members came the visitors had the seats the members in too much particularly careful sitting in the overflow rooms so the time came to shift to an 8 a.m service and thus far uh you have certainly been wonderful give yourselves a hand for the way that you have worked with us [Applause] but it seems to me that everything that is done that seems to give a glimmer of hope there are people who do a great job shooting it down tony founcher uh said this the other day um and some have frowned on me because i have uh let people know and you can check me i know you do uh that fouchy i don't know him personally and i bid him god speed but he's a backslidden catholic who is a self-professing humanist humanists do not believe in prayer humanists do not believe that god intervenes humanists do not believe that we need help from the lord at all that may be one of the reasons why he could easily recommend that churches be closed but he fumbled and waffled when they suggested perhaps perhaps the the protests were should be uh curtailed because don't they spread the virus if you if singing in church and gathering in church spreads the coronavirus most certainly marching down the street everybody on top of each other screaming and hollering ought to spread the virus as well but he would not he would not speak against uh people's constitutional rights to protest but the same constitution that speaks to our right to protest speaks to our right to practice our religion and yet they had no problem shutting down churches so the latest from um fouche uh this is according to forbes forbes dot com august the thirty first twenty twenty dr tony foucher director of the national institute of allergy and infectious disease said thursday past this thursday's past that temperature checks are unreliable for detecting coronavirus symptoms and people entering businesses and other establishments as infrared thermometers have been embraced as part of the protocols for reopening so as soon as people embrace the thermometers and said okay we're going to do the temperature checks now he's saying that they're unreliable but according to dailymail.com on the 23rd of march of this year the same man said this to the science uh magazine journal dr foucher said give serious consideration to screening shoppers at us stores we when asked if this measure speaking of uh temperature checks could be introduced in u.s stores he replied yes of course i think the logistics uh of that have to be worked out so when he said yes people just scrambled and got the temperatures because this is a good thing now that people are practicing it and people are saying well this gives us a measure of safety now he comes and says well it's unreliable it seems that his role is to extinguish hope anything that seems promising and hopeful he shoots down unless of course he has a vested interest in it also he's allowed to be all over the place with his recommendations january 26 2020 he said and he said this to the cats round table he said the american people should not be worried or frightened by this this is january 26th it's a very low risk to the united states this is what he said about the coronavirus in january of 20 of this year the 26th he said that american people should not be worried not frightened by this also on february the 29th almost 30 days after the president put the travel ban in place because if you recall when the travel ban was put in place he was called xenophobic said it was hysteria he's overreacting he put the ban in place on january 31st on february the 29th dr fauci said this right now this is right now at this moment there is no need to change what you are doing the risk is still low but this could change so as late as february 30 days after the travel ban was put in place he told americans not to change anything that they were doing i think all of us would agree now that he was wrong uh his his concern has drastically changed cnbc.com august 13th 2020. quote the bottom line is i'm not pleased with how things are going end of quote and he also said we certainly are we certainly are not where i hope we would be we are in the middle of a very serious historic pandemic he added and there have been many other inaccuracies that dr voucher has a given for example cbs news 60 minutes march 2020 there is no reason to be walking around with a mask infectious disease expert dr tony foundry told 60 minutes there is no reason he says that in march of this year to be walking around with a mass while masks may block some droplets voucher said they do not provide the level of protection people think they do wearing a mask may also have unintended consequences he said people who wear masks tend to touch their faces more often to adjust them which can spread germs from hands from their hands and now uh uh his most recent position according to abc news july the 29th 2020 dr foucher says if you have goggles or eye shields you should use it it's not universally recommended but if you really want to be complete with the mass you should probably use it if you can for those who are wearing masks and those who are here with masculine i am by no means insinuating that you should take your mask off uh when i am in public uh in public places i wear max when i go into businesses that require mess i wear max wearing a mask is not my point my point is he's allowed to go back and forth back and forth back and forth and whatever direction he points us in we go in the direction and minded nobody voted for him that he points us in that black lady doctor in california who treated uh 375 the patients who got well from hydroxychloric and who treated the patients many of our own people shot her down when voucher has never treated any patients [Applause] and that lady said let him tell me to my face that these these people didn't get well and yet folk what's my point my point is uh many of these people are working hard to keep you depressed listen to me now youtube live facebook live listen to this preacher whether you agree with me not just think of what i'm saying they're working hard it appears their goals is to keep us in fear really to keep you in filter after the election but i'll
