STUCK IN NEW YORK! British Airways vs American Airlines Economy Class!

all right so day three exiled in New York I feel like it is getting my home alone we're stuck in New York so people are always telling me that we don't fly enough in economy class addition it's not really true because like half the price I do every year in economy and but nevermind we decided what we're gonna do is head across to New York to do a little bit of Christmas sightseeing and in the meantime we're going to be trying out the economy class products with British Airways and American Airlines so shall we head to New York and go finish this Christmas shopping somewhere a little bit really good they whisked us in a wheelchair through to here they've actually got a dedicated lounge for accessibility I've never seen this before it's really nice and they're just going to come and collectors when they fly over boarding and looking in actually bogie one of the really cool thing about Heathrow that we found is that if you need any duty-free they will get somebody to go and get it for you while you wait in the lounge if you need assistance that's just amazing that they do that no other service to you and so people with accessibility she's really left out here at all it's really good how long have you wanted to go [Music] see these all the time at Heathrow and I've never actually been on one and it's only because I'm with the a the Lukey gets going to say that I'm very impressed with the accessibility situation there any throw are you this is like amazing the service that they've given you to give you a little lounge and everything let me come and tell you in a book flights as states we were allowed through to the gate area alright to New York today was this 19 year old Boeing triple7 200 originally delivered to American Airlines in December 2000 37 alpha charlie thanks very much thank you [Music] Americans triple7 has a 242 configuration in premium economy and a 3/4 reconfiguration in standard economy which reduces to a 242 in the last few rows as the aircraft gets narrower they're in the continue neck pillow yeah doctor about us it's pretty comfortable it's a repair spending I thought it would be it's beautiful the seats are pretty comfortable with a decent size TV and plenty of power options once everyone was on board it was time to push back and start our journey West [Music] we had a pretty lengthy taxi out of runway 9 right in you throw [Music] this Virgin a340 600 took off a few minutes before were is also heading to JFK remember this aircraft as we'll be racing it across the Atlantic today our route today then took us directly west out of Heathrow Crossing Wales in Ireland before crossing the North Atlantic who made landfall over Newfoundland in Canada before crossing Nova Scotia and entering the u.s. we started early sent over earlier in the service and the cabin crew were being pretty rude as some other passengers I was pretty disappointed with the way that the cabin crew spoke to one guy in particular on being presented with his choice of vegetable Cory only he asked that for entertainment if they had anything else at all as he didn't like Chloe at all the flight attendant turned around to him and said that's all we've got take it or leave it which to be honest I thought was pretty rude and not a really nice way to speak to a customer several miles four and a half hours into this flight now we've descended halfway across our Lansing Ashley I have to stay safe while the flight hasn't been brilliant Osito right it's pretty comfortable entertainers quite good this Wi-Fi on the plane which is really fast is really good as well live CB there's a blazer stuff that's really good a palace fly as English went they've done so far is the service there are two kind of types of flight attendant on this flight you've got the slightly older ladies who really Pleasant can't do enough to help giving us extra portions are coming around making sure we're all okay brilliant but then there's some younger cabin crew members who just treats the passengers with absolute disdain it's really bad it is with if there's no in-between you've got terrible service you've got excellent service and isn't there in between I just have to hope that we keep going the nice lady [Music] later in the flight we were served some chocolate ice cream which wasn't too bad in-flight entertainment show us on the American triple 7 is pretty decent there's loads of TV movies and box sets to watch as well as live TV which I thought was a really cool feature you can apparently order drinks through the system but it's never let me order anything through this so I'm not entirely sure as to the purpose of it the Sun finally started setting as we approach the Canadian Coast leading to some beautiful views out of the window so game vegetarian options only would you reckon to your vegetarian whatever is - II ain't chicken ii man without now and they don't have vegetarian options as we approach Cape Cod the sky looked absolutely stunning we will play the rather cringe-worthy welcome to the USA video which has always made me think of the excellent Saturday Night Live skit that parodies it we started our approach into runway 4 right at JFK after we landed the Virgin Atlantic a340 that took off ahead of us London just behind us [Music] thanks for milk the assistants at JFK Mathers at the Gaytan took us through to the curbside well we waited for our right in Manhattan right here in a very chilly New York but there's no snow not a brilliant flyover with America we are just waiting men our because we're gonna get a helicopter into happen again and everybody moaned at me last time I am rest assured I am NOT a shill for blade helicopters I'm looking to do with them but it's really cool and we managed to get a really good deal on this but the writer the FBO at JFK is about a five minute trial for the terminal once there they let us know that we just having arrived an hour earlier to JFK they leave just to an early flight so that we weren't hanging around so it brought us to the FBO shelter air as opposed same place I came through before waiting for them to save fuel the chopper and then we can get to the chopper it's really good to do that [Music] the right across Manhattan tonight was beautiful it's incredible seeing the city lit up at night as it was the pilots last run of the night he slowed down and gave us a tour of the sites as we headed across Manhattan now I know a lot of people think that I have actually paid by blades to advertise their products I don't get paid a weather or looked amazing Oh level and the pilot was just brilliant given us but I wanted to go we have time for a bit of sightseeing in the city today and thanks to ubers being on almost every street corner managed to get around New York pretty quickly to see the sights in New York City do you reckon I love it it's cold there's no Christmas lights I what the heck I thought New York was like it's Christmas easy no but clearly not you show YouTube for Mature surround Fifth Avenue where are we going he's supposed to take me to eat Rockefeller partly there's a Christmas tree there or something I don't know why you want to see that we've got a Christmas tree at home in the living room bits did you know one on the thanked my neighbor no I didn't [Music] it's a Christmas tree not a loser Christmas trees apparently this is a famous one that we're coming off to just the same as all build this but just bigger dinging is doing my head in right through me it all right so I've come out for a little bit and Sam on my own because Rachel's really not feeling too great she's going back to bed for a little bit after come out to get some food these flights home are turning into a bit of a nightmare so be a flight leaving tonight brilliant [Music] that'd be a fly has now been delayed until tomorrow night at 6 o'clock so a 24-hour delay don't know whether that site it's also changed from a triple 7 to a Dreamliner now that we're coming back on I haven't sold reach it and no idea what she's gonna say when I tell her that we're stuck here for another 24 hours in New York and so you know this flight would be a yeah it's kind of you'll either be here are you taking the make it's just a little bit it's a little delay okay so what time I would even now it's o'clock tomorrow morning no tomorrow no but so the play you looking at flight radar left the gate been returned to the gate and now we're doing a different plane which at the moment is in Chile and ascots against back to Heathrow and then come over to us so we're on ba and now American you know small wins you know it's another night here yeah okay let's just hope we don't get stuck in this snowstorm don't they I told alone I was stuck in New York our plane arrived in from London last night at like 1:00 a.m. the first time ever apparently that be a 787 has been into New York so there you have it aviation history you're making here oh she doesn't don't care issue now the reason for the delay until 6 o'clock tonight is because obviously be a descend the Dreamliner into New York usually so there's no spare crews sitting around it to take you home so what they had to do is bring the crew that came over are going to be taking this back but of course they need their rest in between and so we've gotta wait for them to have a Kip and wait for them to have a bit of a rest and then hopefully fingers crossed six o'clock sand I will be out of here there is this snowstorm still coming it's not hit yet apparently we're gonna get some sleet today and the snow will hit later on tonight apparently so fingers crossed we get out just in front of that so you know what so this behind us is the I will sew this hotel behind us it's the Plaza Hotel at home alone to wear that's gonna be British Airways so in actual Central Park on an actual horse and carriage ride doing it this is pretty cool after I ride around Central Park it was time to jump in a yellow cab and head back to JFK so heading off to the airport will be out of New York today the weather is just hitting that starting to rain and sleet [Music] we fingers crossed thank you yes hello there I'm good thank you yourself so we are on the delayed flight from last night and we've come and of course we got kicked out the hotel so we thought we'd come a bit earlier and see yes of course thank you very much thanks a lot in hey the assistance matters at the check-in counter and wheeled Rachel the way through to the gate here's fine we can so so when the flight is ready to go do we just really thank you so behind me is the 787 then that arrived last night to take us back to London yay just 23 hours ago it's the first time that be a letter sent it's the first time that Bao that I certainly Dreamliner into JFK and we're gonna be on the first flight out so the crew had turned off not many passengers have turned off but there's only 50 of us today on the fly was all probably won't it get the game to be fair they gave everybody the wrong gate on the boarding pass and we only saw this game because it was the one that well the 787 on it he said of the 747s all of the game so I think everybody else will be waiting at the one that I've been told to go to it was soon time to get on board and the assistance arrives two-wheel rage down to the flame Tuckahoe ready to go good evening ladies and gentlemen back in session please British Airways flight one seven six of the delayed 30th of November it's currently in running our guests traveling with infants and small children infants and small children Americans to see the board now at gate number 3 again British Airways 176 the delayed 30th of November that's what important either for you thank you very much spine perfect thank you thank you very much thank you it's been a long day 31 out for Charlie thank you very much a be a 787 - 90 fish from the - shades as it has a first-class cabin - which was completely empty tonight cool well takes up a good chunk of the aircraft with a smaller world traveler Plus and will travel a cabin at the back of the aircraft so we're step further we are on all right quite a lot of legroom actually it's not going to pursue that I've got a row to ourselves which is quite nice to let the tea tray [Music] there were just 51 passengers on board this evening as many passengers had been moved to earlier flight us the day before when the flight was delayed before long we pushed back and began our love taxi after the runway at JFK the weather really started to calm down as we taxied out and we were really glad to get out of New York before the worst of the weather hit I wrote back to London this evening themself is northeast off the coast of New England flying past nova scotia on the tip of newfoundland before crossing the atlantic we flew across Ireland and South Wales before descending into Heathrow after a flight town of just 6 hours and 15 minutes at a cruising altitude 39 of 43,000 feet it's very quiet flight stretch out and so I intend to see again some fears I guess my capacity hurry in the morning chivonne so really nice one of my favorites even though I like a 350 as well burn injury - my thanks to the low loads tonight the cabin crew were particularly generous with their servings and handed out handfuls of snacks and drinks you know when you get that noisy mate that despite there being there completely empty plane to move to still sits there the same dinner service tonight was a chicken casserole which was pretty tasty the rolls came complete with American buttery flavored spread which actually tasted nothing like butter all right so frustrating steamed ain't as moved so I found out something man I've got some space to stretch out I almost a flatbed like wine but it'll do is only from the five hours till we land into Heathrow I'd dose for a few hours of mock-up as we approach the west coast of Ireland say 1 hour and 15 minutes before we land rather predictably I didn't get much sleep even laid flat out on these three scenes in splendid massively it's still nice let's have the room then to just be silent almost seen think the lights have just come on something about their breakfast anytime soon I have to say that the breakfast was a little bit underwhelming it was a cold croissant with a bit of cheese in it last time I flew transatlantic economy on ba from New York we got served a hot English breakfast which was much nicer so it was a little surprising to just get across on today the bright lights of London soon appeared outside and we made our approach and landing into a clear book old Heathrow Airport our flights in New York were books as a return trip through be a calm and cost 448 pounds per person return giving a cost per mile of sixpence however with the delay of more than four hours due to a technical fault with the aircraft we were able to claim 600 euros or 500 pounds each in EU two six one compensation as well as having our meals covered and the hotel in New York which they not only paid for extra night but covered in full as a gesture of goodwill meaning that even with the cost of fuel to get to Heathrow and the parking it didn't end up costing as a penny for the entire trip in fact we ended up 115 pounds in profit from taking this trip which could have some of us spending money in New York we on standby to do this we're on the flight that finally oh wow wait there's a long day for you then but it was already in New York apparently 5jc I was a dear oh thank you very much anyway thank you very much thanks a lot see ya bye bye your mouse up step sweetheart yeah it's just there if it's not there lovely thank you thanks very much over the day once we disembarked we took the boogie to the baggage claim and had to buckle with passengers wandering in front of him I have no idea how the drivers at Heathrow keep our patients they're far more patient drivers than I'd ever be [Music] Oh lemons in it they all just dreamed in oh please your favorite I was gonna say it's pretty quiet in the middle his nest [Laughter] yeah that's wonder there so back even in the UK after eventually back in the UK I should say after our flight over to do you up in fact you enjoy that in terms of which was the better economy class versus ba or America and I think really really advise the non-aviation II what did you think was the best I think I agree to be honest and oba had that massive delay well big crew of the people that make the difference at the end of the day it was so nice really friendly crew all the way back on the Dreamliner versus the American Airlines group they were probably frustrated and tired
