I FLEW FROM UK TO TEXAS FOR STEAK! Singapore Airlines A350

[Music] and back here at Manchester Airport and I really fancy having a steak for my lunch today slight problem though I'm in the north of England and here the closest they come to steak is in high form with a bit of gravy in mashed potato so I've decided to head to Houston Texas the home of the steak to try and get myself a bit of lunch I'm taking Singapore Airlines on their morning flight over here in terminal 2 at Manchester all the way over to Houston hopefully with time to get a bit of lunch put a steak over there and I'm back to the airport in time for this evening's flight back here to of Manchester so let's take Singapore Airlines 8350 it's a Houston for lunch okay I'll admit there was another reason to take this trip I needed just 3,000 miles to obtain my Star Alliance gold status and this round-trip would grant me gold status for the rest of the year first job today was to check in which seemed to cause a little confusion are you going to you're not going to say that I'm not wearing that for lunch I'm gonna have a speak when I get there [Music] is your state why wouldn't any check-in online yes to me the fly like a hundred times and also once we call status I'm going out there's a steakhouse near the airport not to speak and exactly exactly so checked in and si that was interesting trying to explain why I'm going to the US for a couple of hours or buckle then explain I have a feeling I'm going to be having a few more of those conversations today it's time to head to the AIDS my writer houston them back today and my home for the next 24 hours is this three-year-old airbus a350 900 originally delivered to Singapore Airlines in 2017 yeah I headed back through the incredible business cabin and the premium economy cabins so the simpler but still pretty comfortable the economy class cabin [Music] as the 50k mentioned his aircraft may differ yet another aircraft that assumed me pushback ready for flight across the Atlantic [Music] stay connected with Singapore Airlines we had a short taxi out to runway two three left today before we lined up and got on our way our route today then took his Northwest out of Manchester to cross Northern Ireland and head across the Atlantic to the southern tip of Greenland from Greenland we crossed into Canada and down into the US over northern Michigan we passed north of Chicago to cross the Midwest before dropping down into Louisiana to a protrusion from the East flight time today was nine hours and 42 minutes at a cruising altitude of 40 and 41 thousand feet shortly after takeoff the crew passed through with drinks and snacks and handed out menus for the lunch service today [Music] [Music] there's Wi-Fi onboard the Singapore e350 which works on the way out but not on the way back the prices were fairly reasonable however I did end up using two of the top packages thanks to posting quite a lot of Instagram updates throughout the flight the Wi-Fi was pretty slow which is my only complaint I sat back to watch the movie sequel to Channel 4's hit comedy The IT Crowd which seemed a little more violent than the original pretty soon the first meal service started I opted for the pan-fried fileted fish which was spicy but really nice [Music] [Music] as a Sun sank lower in the sky we cross the southern tip of Greenland which was stunning as always [Music] so right now we are airborne over this land ever Freelander 39,000 feet about three hours into their flight so far going very well very comfortable just watched a movie some great scenery out the window as well we got about find an awful something I was like so hey Houston right now just enjoying the FloorMate socially the seating economy is pretty comfortable with a 32 inch seat pitch slightly more than a 31 inches of most of the other airlines serving the transatlantic routes there's two USB power ports to the left of the TV with an iPod connector as well to the right of the seats a cup holder which pops out the table folds down in two parts was for the drinks the snacks and again for the meal service there's a mirror built into the table too which i thought was a nice touch the seat reclines with the usual button and slips forward as it with clients meaning that you don't end up with the passenger in front of you in your lap when they recline soon there was another snack service which was a sandwich we now overhead coming over about three hours left to run until we arrive into you I'm hoping to get my now how they hit them elephant a conference more nice they're going to have a really good coming around the drinks and snacks are out there I'm hoping off because I'm waiting but I've sleep when I get to Houston but wherever color than our that's ever got about three hours left to burn until we arrive like generally very comfortable they three fifties of lovely painting file when we get there I don't know how I'm gonna get in the community for something restaurant and then pathology exam cleaner and later on tonight I have a little bit curious as to what immigration are gonna say when I get there and I tell them our value there or four hours to go to speak I mean I've been to the US on day trips why a few times before and it's always been a bit of a question but they're generally been okay with it but this is kind of the shorter moving to the States for adjusting for hours and usually I'm there at least 12 hours or so so it's in the interesting things we don't have any issues when we get there we soon cross into the United States over the northern end of Lake Michigan our surprise there was a second full meal service and this time I opted for chicken chow mein [Music] as we commenced our descent over Louisiana there were loads of smoke plumes below us which seemed strange for the middle of winter [Music] it was soon approaching the city of Houston where we landed 20 minutes early on a gusty afternoon [Music] thank you bye-bye I disembarked into the terminal to be welcomed into the USA by a mammoth line for immigration it took over an hour to get to the end of the line where when I told him the reason for my really short stay it was just met with a rather bored awesome before I was stamped into the US of A so finally made it through that cluster beep of immigration here at Houston intergalactic all continental in continental spaceport whatever it's called it is 9:40 UK time I've got three hours to go get my lunch and head back to the airport for my flight back to the UK so let's do this I should be back at the airport for midnight UK time so it's a little bit like Cinderella sorry for my uber now to take me to go get some steak and then we can head back home my uber didn't take long to turn up and whistles to a nearby steak house when I arrived it appeared I'd struck the jackpot in the drawer of Texan steak houses [Music] yes please can I get the final t-bone please in rare and put lights me so I found a steak house not far from the airport it's not too busy with proper Texan style things I know it's a chamber and be bothered to drive miles out to find proper local answer this is it but if my steak nice t-bone Hanoi I don't think I could have picked anywhere more text as if I drop it this country music playing and there's horseshoes and things everywhere it's all very Texan 20:19 vintage it's a good year I had a steak it's fair to say my steak was well worth the journey it was absolutely delicious these things are called fried okra never heard of them before Prime Minister texting special tastes like a bean something fried well there we go steak achieved in Texas this was absolutely amazing amazing lunch there and really put great bunch of guys there as well it's time to head back to the airport it will talk about 15 minutes to get here time and I'll get an uber and head back and hopefully we'll be in time for tonight's flight back to Manchester let's go [Music] yeah so much different you've been in Dubai case it back here at George Bush in continents or galactic space ports trying to get back to Manchester about an hour until the plane leaves I better get a move-on right through security and they're about to board my fly so I need to get a wriggle on and get across to the gate [Music] everyone gate d1 now to gate d1 and they just changed the gate to gate d7 so oh my good lord back pass security - d7 now you actually just landed yesterday yeah Manchester yeah yeah yeah exactly so Texas to have a stake and now I'm going home again ake a window seat okay awesome morning before school headed exhibit thank you very much thank you so it's now two hours past our for scheduled departure time we still saw here at the gate and there's absolutely no information from Singapore Airlines about what's going on other than that has never been 15 minutes and my time comes then we get another will you know in 15 minutes and they started handing out snacks back so Krista people which is not a good sign but it's now two o'clock in the morning been a wait now that 22 hours I just want to get some sleep so it's now quarter to 3:00 in the morning and we've just been told for the next up they will be at half past three and they're just gonna let us know them apparently so they'll make it three hours after off scheduled departure of half past midnight okay so it's now half 3:00 in the morning next update we've just been told to have a four o'clock they found a problem is something in the tryna fix it everyone's moving after a delay of around four hours we were finally called for boarding and the sleepy plane load of passengers boarded the a350 back to Manchester thank you thank you hello oh c'mon thank you very much I should be fine thank you but thank you captain T why job and scene excess of sir oh yeah what time - flight time took Manchester this evening we 7 hours and 30 minutes 7 a half hours firstly I'd like to apologize for this delay out of Houston the aircraft had a deep an indication of the fuel quantity indication was issuing correctly and I was taking longer than usual to repent but it's all fixed now and we already we're just waiting for the last bit of paperwork the front time is a bit shorter than normal so we hope to make some time on this right on board finally it's all 4:00 in the morning UK time during top 10 here in Houston probably gonna be another half an hour we're thieves that make us for involved inside hey never mind please give us your attention as we bring you through this important safety briefing make sure that your seat belt is securely fastened during taxi takeoff and landing to fasten bring the two ends of the seat belt together I wrote back to Manchester tonight Tooker's northeast across the u.s. towards New York before crossing the Atlantic and making a left turn towards Island from there we cross the Irish Sea into Manchester and flight town tonight was 7 hours and 41 minutes at a cruising altitude of 39,000 feet soon after takeoff I fell straight to sleep and didn't wake up until several hours later why don't wake up we were just off the south coast of Ireland the Sun was rising and breakfast service was just beginning I'd missed the dinner service as I was asleep but breakfast was a tasty cheesy omelette and the yoghurt pretty soon the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales became visible below and we descended across the northwest of England into Manchester [Music] we touchdown on runway two three right at Manchester three hours and 17 minutes late my return flight to Houston today cost me 734 pounds or 1959 u.s. dollars this is for a total distance flown of almost nine thousand five hundred miles giving the cost per mile of just eight pence considering I booked this flight just two days out it wasn't to you about partying for the money especially considering this trip got me a year's worth of Star Alliance gold status with a tasty side order of delicious steak [Music] [Laughter] [Music] mistake you made girl status make the odds necesaria see ya it's so a little over 24 hours later thanks to that delay but I'm back here at Manchester steak acheived sausage roll in hand and time to get the train back home I hope
