g'day youtube welcome back to the channel sorry it's been a little while but uh this is the car that everyone has been asking about and we went guns blazing talking about getting this car built and then it all stopped so here we are back with the monster d16 build stick around i'll tell you all the facts and figures about this car [Music] so welcome back to the channel you guys might remember this car from about three or four months ago we were in the shed uh with my friend gary he just had the engine built a full top to bottom vatara build with a fully built head valve springs oversized valves retainers everything was all top shelf he whacked on the garrett 30 76 turbo and then the car went to the dyno we put the moon tune in it uh and sent it to around about 20 psi and the head didn't like that so as many people know d16s tend to lift the head when you put a bit of boost in them it's mostly due to the timing so we're led to believe again these are all wives tales at the moment because we don't have any data or i don't have any of my own data to confirm that or not but that's what we keep getting told uh we've turned the timing down turned the boost down we've got it tuned reliably to 190 kilowatts or 255 horsepower but it's only on nine psi which is bugger all the car i turboed a couple of weeks ago with no tune or anything was running seven or eight by the time we finished it so i think you'll agree nine psi is nothing for this fully built engine let's give a little run through what we've got here most obvious one is the coil on plug conversion you'll see here we still got the distributor which gives a signal but there's no plug leads off that this is direct fire ignition with a really nice bracket here so you can adapt that onto any d series we've got the 1320 manifold which is the high mount turbo smart wastegate you can see in there that's the billet wheel genuine garrett so top shelf stuff there's an aem fuel rail and fuel pressure reg and these are 1000 cc injectors uh this is the vtec model is a d16y8 and it's got the lsd gearbox with a upgraded i think it might be m factory m factory diff lsd in there four bar map sensor all custom alloy piping skunk two intake manifold and uh importantly this car runs on e85 and we've got the max peeting rods oil catch can which replaces the battery the batteries now in the boot these are the lines you'll probably remember the video where we fitted this up which is an awesome fit highly recommend that if you're boosting your engine you do need a catch can max peeting rights coils we do have upgraded brake pads and rotors here at the moment uh all the way around and it's got the sleeper tyres and sleeper wheels on there sorry for the wind we've got the stealth black intercooler so with the bonnet down you would never ever pick this car and that's the whole idea it's needs a little bit of tlc on the paint but the idea is to have a sleeper and to go unnoticed by the cops one other thing if anyone has one of these lying around in southeast melbourne give me a shout out i want one of these waterline outlets for the d series with this hole in the top i want to tap it out for a pressure sensor so if you got one hit me up one thing about this car which is top shelf is it had a custom three inch exhaust with the wastegate plumbed in and that was done on the tig by the guys at elusive motorsport i'll throw a clip in from the other video showing you all underneath the car has one of the best exhaust systems i've ever seen so we can't wait to hear that at full noise the main reason of looking underneath the car at the moment is this beautiful exhaust manifold and three inch down pipe it's got the plumb back turbo smart screamer straight down we've got the u-butte flexi coupling here with v-bands straight down the car 90 90 over the control arm and then out the back to an awesome k-tuned rear box really high flowing minimal bends great welds so yeah we'll go for a drive very soon and we'll test it out [Music] um so [Music] i think it's definitely worth mentioning uh this car when it was first built with the forged engine uh it went on another dyno and it was actually running a different turbo a log manifold and just a bit of a backyard exhaust system still three inch but not the best welds the pipe diameter changed a few times and it was running 18 psi and it made 260 horsepower at the wheels on 18 psi with the log manifold and a smaller turbo now with the free-flowing three-inch exhaust and the high-flow top-mount turbo manifold on only 9 psi it makes 255 horsepower so we've lost 5 horsepower but we're using half as much boost which is just incredible no doubt if eventually when we do turn this back up to 15 pound or something like that we're going to be way way above those numbers with still much less boost so definitely worth mentioning make sure your exhaust high flowing just having a chat to gary off camera before the engine was built and forged he was running about 225 horsepower on a totally standard engine no lsd log manifold all that sort of stuff he was saying if he had his time over again to save money do everything right the lessons that he's learnt he probably would have gone with nice flowing manifold nice flowing exhaust lsd kept the engine standard and kept the boost at a similar sort of level and probably would have been at a similar sort of power obviously you still need to do the fuel system and ignition system if he had his time again he probably wouldn't go to the extent of building an engine for that sort of power levels this sort of power is pretty safe on a d series obviously he's got every sensor all the right tuning all the right parts now that to make it nice and reliable and smooth so i've been driving the car for about 15-20 minutes just gone uh from one suburb to another for some food getting a bit used to it i found the rev limiter at make some good cracking noises we've still got to behave sunday drivers are out heaps of cops but promise we'll give it a squirt very soon i'm actually we're trying to look for people to race but there's nobody really around missed a few while i was having a feed [Music] time to give it a little bit of a boot full second gear [Music] watch the boogie [Music] he's how's it going lunch time is it uh single cam d16 190 oh no he did it's his car that sounds so bad they're pretty good bargains pretty good performance bargain uh it's got an lsd in it so hopefully not it spins a bit but spins a little bit but we're hoping you were going straight so we could ratio but fair enough okay we'll go race this guy [Music] got a ferrari guys we have a problem we're in an old honda go around us please [Music] it's ferrari look at this hopefully you will have another crackling they definitely had some boogie though he laughed at you he's after him he laughed at you that was so good i missed third gear 1.6 single cam turbo front-wheel drive tiny little motor 800 car [Music] [Music] all righty guys so that was a bit of a all over the shop video so i hope you enjoyed it it's a bit of fun just mucking around seeing what a 190 kilowatt or a 255 horsepower d16 y8 will do very impressive car very very strong lots of torque 190 kilowatts out of a 1.6 on only 9 psi is absolutely huge uh it doesn't sound like much it's not the big three four five 600 horsepower numbers you're used to seeing on youtube but we like to bring it to you reel here on the turbo tristan channel and again i do apologize for the lack of videos i've been waiting for parts to arrive hopefully some stuff she'll arrive next week and i can do some really informative videos for you guys to teach you how to do some much much needed break upgrades and suspension upgrades on your civics both of these will be low budget and uh high performance gain mods so hopefully you'll like those things are winding down just for now i'm almost at 6 000 subscribers which is absolutely unreal i am moving so i'm sort of winding down packing up i'm packing away a lot of my tools and stuff and getting ready to move them to the new place i'm so excited to show you guys that
