when we first started the mr2 build we had no idea how much potential this car would actually have it all started a few years back when i came across some street racing videos of an insanely fast mr2 that seemed to be unbeatable i just knew i had to get one for myself what up guys as you can probably tell by the title we are on our way right now to look at a 1991 toyota mr2 i've been wanting one of these cars for a few months now so happy right now this car is awesome i've been wanting one of these for quite some time now and i finally found finally found one that i like so i went and picked it up but i plan on this car being even faster than the hatch by quite a bit someday after i got my mr2 i began the swap i pulled out the original engine and swapped in a honda k24 engine but it's still a learning process for me i'm sure there's a lot of things i still need to do but it'll get there and i just want to give a huge thank you to eric at hooks racing for helping me out with these mounts i have big plans for this car definitely going to be the fastest car i've ever owned and it's going to make a lot of power or else i'm going to blow it up trying so definitely stay tuned for this thing when i get it going it's gonna be a beast once the car was up and running i built a turbo kit from scratch with the little resources i had just to get this thing out and have some fun eleven nine first hit baby as the channel continued to grow i knew it was time to take the mr2 to the next level i had three goals in mind for the car i wanted it to be our first eight second car make a thousand horsepower and do some sick wheelies once all of the parts arrived it was game on i started by assembling the transmission which thanks to you guys we were able to get a quai sequential dog box transmission which i was so stoked about because i had always dreamed of building a car with a sequential transmission after that we had everything we needed to assemble the engine so we got the engine put together made it up to the transmission and we had our power plant ready to drop into the back of the mr2 before we could get everything mounted up into the car we needed to add a roll cage because we planned on going fast once the cage was done and we had our engine and transmission back into the car it was time to move on to the turbo kit for the turbo setup on the car we decided to do something unique we had great success with these ball bearing ebay turbos and we had enough room for two of them so we thought why not let's see if two ebay turbos can make a thousand horsepower and we can reach our goals once we got the exhaust and charge pipes done this thing was starting to look exactly as i imagined and she was just about ready to make some power 1045 yes [Applause] running the first eight in the car was no easy task we had multiple setbacks from engine failures to transmissions breaking we continued to fix the car and repeat and we kept going for it until we finally made it happen [Music] there we go come on kyle oh oh let's go no way no way 87 [Applause] it was also a little too good at wheelies once we got that first eight second pass out of the way the setup really started to show its true potential many people had their doubts about the twin turbo setup on the car but those little nagasaki noise makers put in work as we continued to dial in the setup and i got better and better at driving the car we realized that we had the potential to be the fastest mr2 in the world with a limited fuel system and two ebay turbos that hated life at 40 psi we were able to come within a hundredth of the world record making us the second fastest mr2 at the time as much as we wanted to continue to go for the record i knew the setup was being pushed to its absolute limit as other mr2s continued to get faster a decision had to be made we had a new goal in mind and that was to be the first mr2 to run a seven second pass in the quarter mile we knew big changes had to be made for us to reach our goal fast and efficiently so we got right to work and we tore the mr2 apart down to the bare shell we took everything that we have learned and applied it to version 3 of the mr2 we started by removing as much weight as possible if we didn't need it we deleted it we downsized from the k24 and went with a fully built k20 engine we could make the same horsepower with more rpm and less torque in hopes to help combat the wheelies we swapped out the ebay turbos for a big single precision turbo that is more than capable of our power goals and will do it consistently and reliably we had a very heavy air-to-air intercooler in the rear of the car that we switched out for a water to air setup which allowed us to run the water box in the very front of the car in addition to that we also moved the fuel tank forward more and we added a 100 pound weight plate to the nose of the car the biggest change we made to the car was switching to a fuel tech engine management system the fuel tech offered a lot of features that were very useful for our specific needs they had a very advanced wheelie management table and all kinds of other features that made us want to try it out once version 3 of the mr2 was up and operational we had the awesome opportunity to bring it to fueltech to have it dynoed once we got back we hit the track as soon as possible and after just one day of testing we knew we were ready to send it all right guys we are back at the track it is the next day we ran out of time last night so we're here once again with the mr2 to do some more testing we have a private rental we have a couple hours to test we are here a little later it's already dark out but it is a little cooler out right now as well which should hopefully help us uh our plan of action now is that we ran it out pretty good in that last video we did our 8-6 at 162. now our plan action is to only focus on the 60 foot in the 330 we got to get that bog out of it once we can confirm that we get that dialed in then we can start running it to the eighth from there but right now our focus is going to be mainly on the 60 foot and 330 so i'm not even gonna worry about the eighth i think we're still jumping ahead of ourselves going all the way out to the eighth so if it bogs um there's probably gonna be people behind us because it's a little busier tonight i'll just have to go all the way down and put it right back in line again but if there's no one behind us we can just re-back it up try again but yeah we gotta get that bog out of it and then we'll slowly just keep turning it up from there this next uh tune-up should be pretty spicy yeah this one's spicy we upped the boost we upped the boost a good amount we moved the ramp in sooner we pulled a lot of the traction control out we talked to anderson a little bit as well and he gave us some tips and he looked over our logs and stuff so we spiced her up even a little more so this time we might be relying on that laser height sensor to do its job but uh we could clearly see after re-watching the footage that we need to leave on some more power but like i said i was just wanting to slowly turn it up because you know still getting the jitters out but after driving it a couple times yesterday feeling much more confident so we're gonna put in line right now and uh get to it we also got cooper out here hey i got my pants on today running the supra the suit something like that poor man super it sounds like a supra but it don't look like one i wore my correct shirt for you today hey hopefully we avoid that today well i mean hey michael right now we got the moon tune in it so right my car only saw 70 pounds on that last hit only 70. only 70. yeah just starting to take all the boost control i was looking at i was like dang 70. that's spicy little hell well get her in line up and let's go do it time to waste mine's cooling down so i can watch yours perfect this first pass of tonight should be a pretty spicy one it should be a pretty spicy launch hopefully so that's the thing if it does take off good right now and i feel that it doesn't bog i will run into the eighth but then still let out but if it bogs what i'm trying to say is i'm not even gonna bother going to eight because we gotta get that bog out of it yeah better way to explain it yeah we gotta we gotta dial the 60 foot let's roll all right guys here we go so oh um bro i think that might be enough for seven though that's exactly what we wanted oh my god [Music] [Music] she left baby oh dude 870 at 111. hands down by almost almost two and a half tenths i think i'm not positive but one three four four four oh through the wheelie i felt they come up and it just stayed there and it held it and set me right back down rolled out brother i know that bog is gone i should have stayed in it bro we can do it again we can do it again oh lord dude ain't that awesome bro oh my god dude we just did it guys you've been on a mission you know unless something mechanically happened that i i'm telling you guys that's like pretty much 100 that would have been a 790. without a doubt hundred percent literally we just did it we just didn't run it out yeah and in the moment i felt how hard it came out how hard you want brakes you run if i can eight seven i hit the brakes hard because i was so worried like i was like this is on a pass but i didn't i also haven't driven in a long time so i was like i don't want to go a five five or five four and run too fast and then you know just waste it for no reason but that's what we wanted to dial in this is i should have wrote it out we're gonna give it a little more on top and we send it if it feels like this if it feels like that again let's go for it i'll send it it felt so smooth bro perfect dude that wasn't that would have been a new well what was eight seven okay yeah i was gonna say if that was a low eight dude we said eight seven at only a hundred and eleven this thing's getting ready to go 180 nuts [Music] i was on the brakes hard even at the thousand was only it was a six i was on the brakes before the thousand because when we went to eight three that was a seven point zero zero to the thousand so even on the brakes i'm still going faster than a thousand than i've ever gone before dude that was on a mission out of the hole dude that laser height sensor that's it this is what we wanted guys everyone dude after that first video i've been getting blown up like you need to do this to your tune this and that guys five passes in we just wanted to dial it back in steps we just didn't want to send it so we could get to this point and everyone's been egging me to send it so i guess you know we did we turned it up a little more than we'd be comfortable with we would have got it to this point but we're like screw it let's just take a bigger step because we haven't even found the range of the the wheelie sensor yet so we really sent it on that one see how much it was actually yeah let's pull the log before the log we figure it all out let's just once over the car let's send it that was our seven it really was bro like not even 100 no doubt in my mind that would have done a seven that was nuts maybe a high seven but that's a seven yeah like hands down it's not even questionable well dude let's check the log let's do it let's send this thing got tonight all these other mr2s they're trying to be the first into the sevens yeah they're pushing for it hard so i'm i'm in the loop they're keeping secrets they're not saying when they're going to the track they are like they're making me nervous and look at you now that's the fastest mr2 [Music] i ran over here [Music] it they built a really stout little pissed off k series that's a pissed off little two liter right there five two eight 143 nuts all right let's pull the log i want to see what this thing did we just did our first test pass uh to the eighth letting out hold on hold on we'll give it a second there's cars going after this we just did i should have stayed in it we just did we just hit a 5-2 a 143 to the eighth mile no way five two men five two five two one forty three hard on the brakes eight seven at one hundred and ten miles an hour there because five to eight is a seven second right yeah 100 but yeah so for this next one we're leaving the front half identical we're just going to give it five more psi up top and and just go that is awesome yeah i was looking the log in tune up everything looks good it's it's just like right find the right power to leave right yeah your advice worked perfect we upped it to 30 pounds and turned off yeah turn traction control pretty much yeah it's very it has to really be spinning to do anything it's basically off yeah and uh yeah yeah that was it i saw the video controlling i think the second or third hit it'll work i mean it worked the feature work but you just need to find where you really need that yeah yeah no it came up and it did a pretty good wheelie but it held it i'll uh i'll send you this log from this pass that's cool man yeah we're gonna go over it top it back off on fuel and uh we'll be going up again probably in like 20 minutes or 30 minutes something like that and let's go hopefully we can do it okay next to me yep that's freaking awesome dude see ya bro look how awesome this laser height sensor is so right down here got the log pulled up right here so this line here is what is actually what it's pulling for timing so you can see the car launches this thing comes out it pulls 15 degrees because the height sensor comes up too high sets the nose back down pulls zero degrees comes up again sets the nose back down these two big dips are timing being pulled because the laser height saw it go too high and then a little tiny blip right there and then second bro it was starting and then it wrote out dude if we can do that again brother we got it in the bag it's like a done deal i'm definitely still shaking up a bit from that pass we're getting everything ready to go again here in a minute but man i just want to say that pass i'm already so freaking happy with that that has potential to not just barely crack into the sevens that could solidify a solid seven second pass right there and man yeah i don't know how this next pass is gonna go i don't know if we will be the first in the world to do it but if we are it's just so freaking crazy to see how far we've come already even with just that eighth mile in my mind i know we just already did the seven but technically we gotta run it out the back to make it official but the the numbers are there one hundred percent if it didn't fail mechanically out the back that was a seven second pass so we literally had it right there and uh as long as we can replicate that which is what we're hoping to get dialed in with this fuel tech in the new engine management is we can do that repeatedly then there should be no issue why we can't go up again and uh send it so man crazy how far we've come this thing is insane 45 okay guys so it turns out i actually let off two tenths before the end of the eighth mile we we have the time overlay into the log i let out at 5.1 seconds and we were actually going 144.9 basically 145 oh no rear was it 145.6 yeah so we were actually down a couple miles an hour because i let out right before the floor game went that fast yeah you can see right where tps lets off rpm and then when you went through the eighth at 5 27 you were already off for two tenths oh my gosh we have created a monster our 200. well send it yeah i mean we upped the boost a little bit i want to send it farther but we're gonna keep it conservative-ish we gave it an extra two pounds of boost and we're gonna have him run it out the back and see if it can pull it off we'll see what you think jason i think if everything stays the same yep and you keep it your foot on the gas the whole pass yeah it'll go like optimistically like a 792 realistically like 798 to 802. it's long honestly even even if we can take home the record yeah that'll still be cool right but obviously we're so close to that seven if we're the first if we're first if they're the first into the sevens nobody else can be the first so and if you ain't first you last that pass looked like it was take a look at that eighth look at that 5 27 143. dude 134 to the 60. that's a spicy unit right there dude you got to take it out of the bag that would have been it yeah 100 you got to do it i mean you're on the brakes hard i mean look how much mom out you killed over 30 miles an hour i hit the brakes at 5-1 i was actually 145 that was before the eighth i hit the brakes yeah because i seen you tap when they got on them we checked the log it actually hit 145. killed 32 mile an hour and still won an 8-7 go florida do something cool that's it he got more more mile an hour and that mr nose i know that's crazy that mile out right there is solid that gets it dude but i went 506 at 140. you just keep your nose slipping your pocket it was in my fire suit but yeah i mean you get that 60 foot of 120 you can go five o's dude i'm happy with that i just want to see what that does out the back oh sevens yeah that's it like 780. that's what i'm saying dude you gotta go floor it you gotta go do something cool hell yeah well here we go guys we uh did a once-over on the car we topped it off re-iced it double checked everything for uh another pass here that that eighth mile says that we uh we got the seven in the bag if we replicate it and run it out the back so if i feel that it leaves just as hard and does the same thing we're sending it on this one boys and hopefully at least take the record but hopefully hopefully at least take that mr2 record but we have the chance to be the world's first mr2 to ever go a seven second pass and that couldn't be taken away from us if we are able to pull little process at the end there we went up it was not launching right it was a little too spicy and then i tried to not let it build as much boost it bogged going back and forth and then when i went out it was already like super hot we i got it we turned the car around it was like it was legit 10 minutes from like the passes we made where we tried to line it up three times it was 10 minutes we were back up there ready to make the second pass so like it was hot yeah we we hot lapped it because the track was about to close and then by the time we got back yeah by the time five or ten minutes by the time we got up there was already 1105 they were supposed to shut it down at 11. and then we still had a couple missed launches right yeah we messed you messed up the first one missed knocked it up and then the second one it went one was the 798 bro that's it bro dude so sick man i'm so happy for you i'm just glad my whatever i did the car didn't break oh you crushed it she's still running strong jbr baby yeah sounds good that was sad hey brother you know that bonus we talked about brother it's yours it's yours i made a deal with wyatt bro it was supposed to be for last weekend it was supposed to be yesterday no it was last weekend and the chance to go to the track and that's why we didn't post a video for a week and and you helped me make that happen oh we got a badass peterbilt going by hey that's that's what i was about to get to next see that's a that's a badass truck you help me get that thing going i'm gonna give you at some point we'll talk about it you know give some notice but i'll give you a paid week off to work on just your truck let's go not going to accomplish anything on it except for staring at it there you go i'll try you help me brother i appreciate it man it's the first one that's it baby can't nobody pop that let's go well boys we freaking did it we got back late last night and uh just want to film something to wrap this video up we have ourselves the world's first seven second mr2 right here and uh we did actually take a quick look at it and it shut off just because the pump lost pressure somehow but we got it primed back up and she fires right back up and i think she'd do it again if we yeah wanted to take it back to the track this setup has so much more in it we did that almost too easily we put our minds to it did everything right and it just performed freaking flawlessly so once again huge shout out to wyatt for helping me out ever since he came down getting these things ironed out without him definitely would have made it happen i haven't seen the in-car footage yet but i'm sure you were like oh that felt great me on the line dude i was freaking out so it's awesome to see all the hard work pay off it was freaking awesome man i want to give a huge thanks to all of you guys who have been watching from the beginning or if you're watching more recently whatever time you started following the channel let me know how long you've been watching all the og subscribers will you know remember this thing from the day we got it it's come so far my memory of this thing was you and tayden stopping at the gas tax gas station after racing and like talking about the rematch and when it kicked that rod out at the bottom of the stock motor like dude the memories in this car this thing's been around man anyways that's gonna be it for this video it's gonna be a long one i'm gonna pull up some memories of the car and kind of show the whole process and what it took to get us to this point and yeah you know celebrate
