hey how's it going guys it's Nick here and welcome to the always frosty City of wind alma and ancient wintry metropolis that has proudly stood the test of time one of the first human cities ever founded in skyrim windhelm has at multiple points in time been the lands official capital today it's the seat of government for the hold of East March and center of a separatist rebellion where Yael Ulfric Stormcloak the bear of Markarth plots to make Windhelm Skyrim's capital once again needless to say this settlement is among Tamriel's most important locations during the events of the Elder Scrolls 5 but what secrets is this prehistoric nor town hiding what are its residents not saying and what is Skyrim not telling us well many things as we'll explore today just sit back and relax as we dive right into five things you probably didn't know about the city of Windhelm in the elderscrolls v skyrim starting off the quest innocence lost is quite possibly one of wind helms most iconic it begins when we first entered the city and speak with a local guard or citizen who informs us that there used to be a local boy named a ventus or a tino who lived here until the sudden passing away of both of his parents afterwards he was shipped off to honor all orphanage in Riften but now rumor has it he's back according to local legend a ventus has escaped the orphanage and broken into his old abandoned home and is now conducting some sort of dark ritual of course as we learn these rumors are accurate the boy is in his old house actually performing the black sacrament a ritual he hopes will summon agents of the dark brotherhood who he wishes to contract to kill the headmistress of his old orphanage grelod the kind if we break into the home and interrupt his secret little sermon he'll mistake us for an assassin and ask us to kill the woman kicking off the quest simply head over to Rifton kill growl of the kind and report back to finish it up Aventis will head back to Rifton and that's that oh yeah this also begins the Dark Brotherhood quest line but did you know according to Bethesda's original plans for Skyrim this wasn't supposed to be where the story of the RET no household ended meet and grenier once honored he's an order in the city who's known for his fervor estate rid of Dark Elves and fondness of mead now he doesn't occupy a particularly notable role in any of the games quests or narratives but as you can likely already guess he was supposed to some cut dialogue files and scripts revealed up following the completion of the innocence lost quest and ventus's eventual return to Rifton after grelod was killed and green aura was supposed to move into the RET no household illegally and start squatting apparently once he saw the home was vacant he decided to take up in it the Baker would cling to the Dragonborn that he was actually pretty good friends with the ventus's parents before they passed so as far as he's concerned he's as good as family and has every right to stay in their home what are you hoping to claim this house for yourself the ARA Tino's always like me so I think I'm family enough to take up here from here the player could be encouraged mister once honored to leave the property either by offering a large amount of coin using a slick tongue or settling the dispute the old fashioned way regardless this little side narrative was removed from the game for a seemingly unknown reason like so much of a Skyrim's cut content everything seemed to have been finished so it wasn't time related it is worth pointing out that Bethesda despite deleting this little quest forgot to remove the key to the aarati no house holder from a grain or once honors inventory so you can still find it by pickpocketing him in the vanilla game oh ass for reasons unknown Bethesda decided that a grain or just wasn't meant to lurk in event 2 sorentino's residence after all and thus the poor guy is merely another insignificant beggar in this vast northern Nordic city journalist windhelm seems to be at least for now home to a bit of a celebrity let me explain the books Olaf and the dragon which tells the tale of the ancient Skyrim hi King Olaf the Great and his battle against the dragon at Neumann axe and ghosts in the storm which narrates one man and his group's struggle against the foamer when travelling the land are two of Skyrim's most popular literary works they can be found in homes and on shelves almost everywhere and they were both written by the same author an imperial who goes by the name Aden Otto Liat Elia you may already see where I'm going with this one now if the player heads over to the solitude docks they will find a large ship parked in the pier called the red wave during the Thieves Guild quest line this location occupies a pretty important spot but if you're not on that Thieves Guild mission you can hop inside and find that the crew is largely passive and friendly they'll freely engage with the player one ship member named Dorian will offer some unique dialogue where he comments about his love for reading and he'll say this referencing the famous author a Donato Elliott le forget wine women and wealth give me a calm seeing a good book and I'm happy I hear out of Natalia tele staying up in Windhelm I've read a few of his works be good to meet him someday sure enough head on over to win helm and pay a visit to candle hearth Hall the town central tavern and there we can find a Donato himself where we can speak with the man and ask him about his work he's surprisingly friendly and gracious for an imperial as wealthy and notable as him most elite Imperials we find travelling skyrim can be a bit well unsure edible but mr. Lea tele seems genuinely passionate about this land and its people even if he wishes they would read a bit more and so if you're ever in the mood to meet the JK Rowling of Tamara yella know that this is absolutely a possibility you can also murder him to death too if you want but I don't necessarily recommend that lest Skyrim lose another artist comin at number three speaking of the candle hearth all it appears that this in might be the scene of a bit of a local legend so after hearing a name like candle hearth one may be inclined to ask how such an institution earned that name and thankfully you can speak to the innkeeper about how her place got its name and well she'll tell you evidently the building was once home to a mighty warrior and his family when the warrior passed away the son with the candle just above the fireplace and evidently it's never burned out after a hundreds of years and to various changes in ownership of the building the candle never stopped burning so what it was turned into a tavern the owners decided to name their business after this oh so mysterious candle did you see the candle above the fire upstairs it was lit 163 years ago back when this building was the home of a grand warrior named wound high when word came that he'd fallen his son Duroc lit the candle in his own armor nobody knows why it still burns but now an obvious question to ask is how or maybe why hasn't that flame gone out I mean in a universe as magical and majestic as the Elder Scrolls it's not necessarily unheard of for things like this to happen but still were not provided with an explanation in the elder scrolls for Oblivion following Asura's Daedric quest five of her followers would die and in their place five permanently lit candles would be spawned in a desert as shrine perhaps the warrior who once lived in this structure had some connection with the Daedric goddess of the dusk and dawn seeing as she appears to have a power capable of producing this phenomenon or maybe it's something totally different I guess only the gods know the truth and the gods won't tell for fourth spot Windhelm is a city that celebrates its own holiday okay let me add some context of that statement so every rightful norden's Skyrim it knows the story of the return right thousands of years ago way back during the Maratha era Nord sailed down from a mysterious northern continent called atmora and founded a small settlement in skyrim called SAR Thal this was the first time Nords ever settled in skyrim now at the time the land was already inhabited by a large population of snow elves who had their own cities forts culture society and government for while the Nords of Sarthe all in the local snow elves got along just fine until one day for reasons still debated things changed the elves a suddenly attacked sore Thal and killed nearly every single inhabitant lucky for the realms of men however one of the few survivors was a great warrior named yeasts Cremora who escaped the slaughter and sailed back to atmora there he rallied 500 of the greatest soldiers he could muster and came back to skyrim together he and his five hundred or maybe 499 we know now pretty much drove the snow elves to extinction and turned skyrim into an almost exclusively Nordic land shortly after their victory the city of Windhelm was founded and to commemorate the Nordic conquest a great wall with the names of each of the 500 companions was also erected a wall which stands to this very day such is the story of the East gramoo's great return well while we can see said wall in Skyrim it seems Bethesda didn't quite capture the sheer amount of reverence the city of Windhelm has for its 500 founders you see according to the first edition of the pocket guide to the Empire every year on the 13th of the month sun's dawn Windhelm celebrates what they call the feast of the Dead where a massive festival is held food is served and notably as per tradition the names of each of those original 500 returners is read aloud before the citizens it sounds like quite the party if you're a Nord maybe not so much if you're an elf or snow elf but but if you're a Nord nonetheless sadly this element wasn't featured in Skyrim itself and we never get to bear witness to such an extraordinary celebration let's just hope the Elder Scrolls 6 pays more attention to the festive nature of Tamriel is populous and finally last on our list char s bugs are perhaps some of the fiercest most disgusting creatures in all of Skyrim gigantic insects with armored shells that have a reputation for ripping unprepared adventurers to shreds these animals don't exactly inspire an appetite however something you may be surprised to learn is that some of the people of Skyrim have taken to eating the repulsive creatures and not only chowing down on their grotesque flesh but even baking it into complex recipes now we ourselves never get the chance to munch on these bugs nor cook them into anything beyond potions but there exists a very popular book players can find title the Shara spy a recipe which well lays out the recipe for creating the pie out of charas meat the book lays out complex instructions for locating and hunting the creatures and offers some helpful tips and how to avoid their acidic venom oh yeah by the way as if they weren't dangerous enough charas bug spit acid at people too it goes into great detail regarding how to butcher the creatures what cuts are the tastiest and which ones to avoid and then recommends basting the meat in a sauce made of tomatoes water peppers honey and salt before baking it into a pie with some carrots potatoes and apples mm-hmm sounds tasty ok Nate this all seems well and good and it may be a bit more delicious than I expected but how exactly does this book relate to the city of Windhelm you may be asking well let's just say a donado Li Italia isn't the only author living in the city yes as it turns out this literary masterpiece was written by none other than the candle hearth hole yes that place again is own cook Nils yep this grumpy old Nord who works in the tavern is the one responsible for writing publishing and selling such a well-known book unlike mr. Lea tele when spoken to Nils isn't very graceful or particularly sensitive but he's a nice man that just seems to have little patience for shenanigans in the event the Inns original innkeeper dies Nils will actually replace her so not only is this a man a province renowned author a gifted cook and a wise fellow but he can even become an esteemed business owner to mr. Nilsa we salute you you jack of all trades you and with that we are going to wrap up five things you probably didn't know about the city of Windhelm ax in the elderscrolls v skyrim thanks for watching everybody which of these tiny details are curious Easter eggs struck your fancy the most and what Skyrim secrets and facts do you know of that I get to cover leave a comment down below as always like writings are very much appreciated again thanks for watching and hope to catch you all in my next video peace out everyone
