Shower renovation

all right the project at hand right now is working on this shower so we got a couple things going on here one doesn't matter how tight you turn these valves off they never stop running and the other thing is that the tile it leaks and it's leaking in the downstairs plus the grout just looks bad so we're going to put in we're gonna push so the plan right now is to remove this tile we're going to put a new tile bigger tiles and then put in a new valve [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right so I just finished removing the old tile so that just see I mean the person who's doing this tile quoted that phase of the job at $650 and it took me like two hours so glad I took care of that I don't think this hold me I should have maybe just done this whole job I really don't think it's that hard but I haven't done it before but it's a good way to learn all right so the next thing we got a plumber coming in to install that change that and then tile guy here's some of the materials like the new faucet we try to get that exhaust fan in there and there's a new tile they're much bigger tiles so there's a lot less grout this time a handrail in there all right so the next thing I want to do here is this bathroom never had a vent in it which is kind of annoying so let's see if we can get this installed problem is there's not a lot of ceiling space because it you know like there's only that much of flat got like two spots to put it I was almost gonna put it there but there's probably some kind of rule against having that in the shower maybe not I should look into it all right there's a little more room right there now luckily in a crawl space so I can go up so we go over the bathroom like right now if I even got my electrical wires Cody don't alright so let me just poke something through that drywall could send Cody up to find it you are going to yeah probably not probably not oh there it is right there just pass that pipe [Music] [Music] let's see how that's turns yeah this close sounds like this alright that thing has to come off that screw into that metal thing I gotta add another circuit here see what I can do the power to these lights is on this GFCI so let's actually test it still works okay so now that shuts the power off to these I gotta pull this wire [Music] all right all the neutrals are hooked together and it's hooked to there so it will have GFCI protection okay so now we got okay so this is our GFCI protected hot so we're right there with okay so here is our old lights right here but it with this which is going to be our new light and red is going to be our fan and our ground I'll just trust these guys alright let's test it so we'll reset our breaker that's all you think I should have changed that yellow plug or I guess it's all right well alright that's all done so now um it's the lights that will be the fan so let's go upstairs and hook that up let's shut this off so way these work is pretty genius like if any it pretty much makes it almost impossible to get a shock with one of the GFCI hooked up because if any power comes back that doesn't come back on the neutral leg of the hot leg that's hooked to it immediately trips the breaker [Music] [Music] hey Dad try it try the fan I turn it up [Music] there it goes alright alright can you get that screw in alright so I got the event line going out that right there that goes across over to there I got everything hooked up over there a a little bit of hard working conditions and up up in here but it's done so let's finish up down there alright so here is day one of the pile guys working so in the fire that plumber did that and that's the board and these are the tiles here's day two they got all the sort of rock up all right so here's the current progress so I guess these are all in place and they got look at all these little wedges and stuff to hold them Cody Cody come here tell my buddy all right so this is the current progress on the tiles Cody's in here and inspect it one thing that stands out like you can see the guy is you know taking his time to make out cuts like that instead of just going straight across on there and you can see like he set up the pattern so it's even like you know it's like that piece is the same size is that piece the same thing over it's like that end is the same thing as that end and they got full tile full tile and then every row matches so my guys been spending a lot of time doing this I've been laying blocks every day so I'm sure I could have done this it just would not have looked as nice right Cody yes yes right I probably couldn't get Levi in here because he would remember the time 10 years ago when I tried to give him a bath and he was not excited about that at all I didn't even know how strong Levi was but he showed me when I tried to give him a bath he's strong all right here's the progress on the next day that looks pretty good I like these tiles so I guess they're doing tiles around I think to here I think that look nicer all right Cody what's up Cody you want a bath the bath did you know about bats I don't think you do know about baths it's this thing that dogs don't like come on more baths all right well this is all fixed so let's work on something else I maybe could have done this it wouldn't have left us nice and that exhaust fan that's nice it's nice and bright in here now nice and quiet alright so I thought this project was all done I just took a shower did not get a good shower this is what happens this valve no matter what you do put it all in hot moving at this that direction it's just full hot the whole time you can never it never mixes in any cold so that was kind of a frustrating shower I looked at the manual that came with this new valve they the troubleshooting guide says replaced valve I just called them up they're sending me a new valve for it the plumber didn't really want to deal with that without you know charging money again which all right so let's wait for that so in the meantime I think I'm gonna turn the hot water heater down so the water because the water is like boiling coming out of that thing he's got this part for free from Owen so I've been getting by I turn the hot water heater way down so we don't have to mix in any cold turn off the water in the basement [Music] what's it want us to do now yes this guy here like that clip holds it in there's a new one oh well it looks like the same part I don't see anything wrong with this old London so they want this oil on all these surfaces [Music] should be off I'm gonna go in the basement turn the water on must see if it's actually long actually Hoffa see [Music] [Music] that's only high right now next a little bit I call then you should be able to see it like this should pick up the flow jump on I could turn the water heater back up Matlock oh it's working that's definitely working yep yep do I need to prove it I guess you guys [Music] [Music] [Music] that's brand new tiles we put the grab bar in here you know that's strong that's not just like a towel rack that's actually screwed into the studs and in Cody all right Cody let's go oh did you did you take my package apart well thank you wonder what was wrong with this one like this was brand new and I get all you got was hot like there was no way sometimes it would jump on you get cold but I don't know if they put it together wrong yeah you don't understand what's this we like that you're not you're not what happens when I pull this you want to see something wanna see something Wow Wow what's gonna
