for shadow roots I like to use red can shade EQ I'm using 66 and 7 and all equal parts for her formula here as you can see I'm working up through her head grabbing thin sections and combing everything down smoothly with the comb and then I'm applying the toner at the root of her scalp only about an inch down you can bring this down further if someone has not lifted evenly or you have some splotchiness that you want to cover or even out you can bring your shadow root down lower or if they like the look where their roots are a little bit darker and their lower and then they get lighter on the bottom this is another way that you would put the shadow root to a lower point but for her I'm actually going to be using three different colors so I'm starting off with the darkest tone that's right up at the root only an inch down and then I'm going to use another color that's a little bit lighter than this it's going to be applied right underneath that color and then I'm going to finish off with a lighter toner all throughout the ends of her hair that will tone her blond I'm just working from the bottom all the way up to the top of the head and the section for this is pretty much wherever they part their hair and I section from the top of their head down to their ears and I go ahead and start with the back first and then I follow up with the sides now when you're working on the sides you're doing the same thing the only difference is that you want to keep the highlight that's by their face their hairline higher so when you're bringing your shadow root down you want to bring it down in an angle so it's not completely a horizontal line it's going to be slightly a diagonal so that it transitions into the back of her hair and this is also going to allow her to have a more pronounced face frame that's going to keep her hair brighter in the front and I turn the brush vertically to make the transition of the shadow root not so far Kersh because if you're applying it horizontally you're going to have a little bit more of that pronounced line so if you turn the brush vertically it'll help so that you can blur out and kind of bring the shadow root up and down throughout the hair so that it breaks up that line now I also want to remind you guys that her hair is not toned yet so that's why it looks kind of yellowish blonde but as you see here it looks pretty intense you probably would freak out and be like oh my god it looks like she's going to have a dark black line on the top of her head don't freak out it just when it oxidizes it looks like it's a little bit darker but I promise you when you rinse it it's really not dark at all so here I'm applying my second color this is more of a color mount skill so she has a darker toner at her root which is the shadowing of the root now I'm working into another color that sits right below that shadow root and it's pretty much going to transition from the darker root tone to a little bit lighter of a color and then I'm leaving the ends out so I am not touching the ends at all that's why I'm applying it really softly and kind of working some of this toner downwards in a vertical motion but leaving the ends out because I do not want this middle tone to darken her ends so as you can see the way that I'm applying it I have my hand underneath that is going to give me some stability there and then as I'm working the product in it's really easy to just kind of squeeze and rub into the hair and once again I'm using redkin shades here this toner is a level 7 so at her root I mainly have a level 6 and now I'm working to a level 7 8 I believe here I used a 7 P and a 7 N and as I'm at the top of her head I'm just going to lay it over the foil the foil is just helping so it doesn't sit on top of the previous section because I don't want it to ruin the pattern I'm creating here and you just want to work really softly as you're applying this toner you don't want to get too recive you want to make sure that where you're playing it is where you want to see it and to be very honest with you guys when you do shadow roots and you do like a middle tone it makes that transition so smooth so if you're afraid of it looking too contrasty because the ends are really blond this is a good way to put a middle color in there so that you can soften that transition from it going to a darker root to really bright ends as I'm working to the front of her hair notice that everything is pulled back away from her face and the same concept applies here where you want to keep her hairline the most lightest point so it still is applied in a slight diagonal and you want to make sure that that middle toner does not sit lower than the hair that's behind her hairline so once again her hairline needs to be at the highest point so the shadow root is going to sit about an inch from the regrowth and then your middle toner is going to sit right below that and it's going to sit higher than the back now I'm applying the third toner here this is going to be her for her blonde this is a level 9 so this is a nine v9p and some clear and I'm just applying it to the rest of the ends of her hair and the greatest thing about shades eq is the consistency of it is so thin and gel like that when you do apply it you can mesh this all together don't worry about it touching the previous toner that's what makes it have this melting effect that it's blurred is there okay to overlap with each other so the total processing time that I leave this in is usually about five minutes maybe ten if they need more counselling but as you can see look how beautiful this is like it is so natural looking and what shadow root does that pretty much darkens the root of that highlight a little bit more so that it looks more natural and all the bright pieces of blonde is all in the ends and around the face so you get that beautiful face frame well that's pretty much it I hope you guys enjoyed this video and I will see you guys soon bye
