Saving A 1928 Ford Model A Pickup And An Old Harley From An Abandoned Garage

hey guys matt iron trap garage and we are going on a fun little adventure today's adventure is pretty much all came about by the dream for us old car hunters and anti-car collectors where you get an email or a phone call from the realtor yes the realtor that is selling the property for an estate or a family and they found an antique truck or car in the garage that they need to get rid of because they are selling the property so i got a email from gary pace of the zuber realty company shout out to gary and he through a roundabout way heard that i buy antique cars and i am always doing videos on finding and digging out these old vehicles he sent me an email i'm not really sure if gary knew i was as local as i was and gary said hey i got this estate that is a little bit of a mess and the property generally is going to be sold as is and probably the house is going to have to be gutted and redone and we found an antique truck in the garage and the family would like to get rid of it they're going to be selling the property pretty much like i said as is with everything on site but they want to get rid of this old truck before they uh sell the property so um i asked him where it's at he told me was in limerick pennsylvania so limerick is only a couple towns over for me it's actually where there's like the big smoke stacks for like a power plant and uh i thought everything was kind of built up and found in that area used to be farm country when i was a kid but there's like developments and kind of like the city is coming closer to us boo and all the old cars i thought had been found well i'm wrong i went to look at the truck and it is like the cleanest model a i've possibly ever found in the wild so to speak this old model aa truck has been sitting for about 30 plus years and from what the family tells me their father or uncle had gotten the truck basically through a deal where he i was involved in a service station or a garage and somebody dropped it off as payment for a partial payment for a repair bill and he got the truck and he used to run and drive and then he started kind of tinkering with it take it apart to restore it and uh life got in the way and unfortunately he's no longer with us and that's where i come in so i agreed to buy the truck but as always the truck is partially apart there's parts all over the place um someone was living in the upstairs of the garage so there's some like personal stuff that's laying around but there's also some truck parts so we need to a get the truck out of there i don't know when the last time was that the truck rolled um so we need to drag it out of there the driveway is narrow um there's parts everywhere that we have to try and find the parts in in all of this madness and you know that that's kind of like my favorite thing to do so i got a bunch of friends i got george i got spencer i got justin those guys agreed to come with and give me a hand for the day so we're gonna head out there dig around i only looked at the truck for maybe 15 minutes and then agreed to buy it and i didn't really touch anything the only thing i did do is buy an old sign that the family randomly found in the corner of the garage i got this cool porcelain mobile oil gargoyle porcelain sign that i was super psyched on so i knew it was a good sign bought that agreed to buy the truck we're gonna get in my truck take the trailer over and pick this thing up and see what happens and we'll bring you guys along for the ride as we always do so let's get going [Music] we just we just started filming and i was getting shots and we found a already there's a uh harley sitting back here in the weeds that's kind of cool [Music] we should try and dig it out just because [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] uh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] hey [Music] all right so our first project here is to get this door open it hasn't been open very long time and then we can get some light in here and see what we're working with with the truck so we have to make a mess before it gets better unfortunately here's another easy up another one this is a nice one really this is the big canopy one really has a happy family grilling on it wow you guys are going over really [Music] there's a tent to go with your i'm getting your whole camping stuff here here's your tent hopefully oh yeah i see another one halloween decorations that's nice seasonal we got every season all right so we got to the door and here's our door lock that was on it it's hard to see with the light but what is it there two pieces uh two pieces of wood they were jammed against the roof so you couldn't get to the model a truck or the aa truck that's what they did so we can knock those knock them out take our door locks off and we'll get those that's what that was what keep keeping intruders out so we'll see what's in this chest probably not anything that exciting but there we go and blankets in the blanket chest oh no treasure all right now we gotta drag this big street yeah we'll take care of it you know what maybe we'll move this door out that actually rolls so we can oh that'll work yeah oh yeah it's already open there's just those lock blocks shut just care slow and steady now these bars were catching before that one and all this nice landscaping work done by iron trap garage i can at least see at least sort of almost see the truck now we have a mountain of stuff to get out of the way spencer i found you the mustang oh another cot this is a vintage cot it's actually pretty neat in that box that's somebody that's somebody's grandmother she was cute she was cute that's somebody's grandma she looks like she's sweetie for something still so oh the grill's here we're in business oh yeah great and a barbecue hungry oh there's this factory spare tire very wet you know what that did yeah comes up like this so where does that go i think it goes in the flatbed that goes on but probably a panic goes on but you just loosen the bolt yeah and then you put the wheel on there that's cool that's the factory spare holder that's pretty cool oh wow lifetimes are all bent out that's a beast there's a jack [Applause] all right we got the truck kind of uncovered we could see the spare tire uh holder is on here and uh justin just rolled it but looks like truck is free so it should roll pretty easy once we hook a tow rope to it man that's the nurse tank i was gonna try running it off this nurse tank that's an official type nurse tank we'll keep that to get it running for the first time from the hunger games [Laughter] the official nurse tank for the for the truck it'll be fun to get this to get it to run on this nurse tank again all right everyone hoodies they are in stock ready to go they're on the website they are available in small through 4xl with the car club design on the back black and white t-shirts for the car club design are also restocked small through 5xl the biggest news our ride with those shirts we're going to no longer be carrying them so whatever we have on the website is all we have left so if you want to get one now's the time they are on sale 15 each so let's get back to matt pulling out this aa truck oh you found the visor yeah oh cool yeah these are actually like it's like a cloth tin with cloth over originally but the tin is all there in good shape considering it's like 100 years old our standards are low is that [Music] yeah you really want to go back in time look at this computer up here it's like in line with the driveway and then just back the trailer up too that would be awesome i don't like them backwards [Music] 1984 is when he was working on a list it's only 36 years i was two years old when this thing was he was working working on it like maybe 10 years ago 10 years ago but with but it was limited this newspaper has been up there since 84. that's probably when he started working on it yeah what yeah i saw there was some hot dog buns like uh the hot dog there's not a lot of mold on them yeah i know that's so but that's the scary part those buns do not have do not have rot or hot mold on them and they've been there for a while so oh yeah yeah uh modern chemicals yeah that tells you about the preservatives in your hot dog buns all right so is there much else he hung out there july third twenty four months old that's only four months old so yeah i mean realistically man i think if we get these hoses off around the headlights okay you can push it back make sure it's not just pretty good it's only gonna think that he breaks off so let's give it a give it a tug go back and see if it'll hold oh yeah all right all right that's good that's good let's just get all this stuff so we're we're good yeah we can push this thing out and we'll go back to trailer and it'll be amazing it's funny the cars i think are gonna be difficult to move are the ones that are always cool like he said it's dry in here so well that 34 ford i drug out was in a dry garage and i had to drag it down a hill because the brakes were locked damn you never know i mean it came in here oh that's sweet yeah we got it right there wow good perfect look at the newspaper hanging down inside wow awesome [Music] got it pulled out it actually went pretty pretty easy now we could finally see how clean this thing is looks like there's a wood kit was getting put in and at some point the newspapers are like 1984 so that might be when that project was started but just look at the bottom of the doors no rot some kind of weird cricket spider morph thing that i don't want to touch i might become spiderman um but yeah just this thing is just so solid bottom edges are always rotted or been painted a couple times but it's okay but you can't ask for a more rust free cab that's that's the good thing out of all this engine's all there and pretty complete it's got some aftermarket guide like hot rod style headlights but always find originals this has got the spoke the wheels the later ones they went to the solid wheel so it's got the split split rim with the spoked wheels which is kind of unusual but for the earlier a's that's common for the big trucks awesome all right let's see what kind of stuff we find there might be things that are not for this that's a coffee oh coffee pot coffee pot i think we can get rid of that this looks like car parts all right we're getting into it that's just stuff but we'll put that here's the head we pulled one of the headlights out didn't we yeah you have one okay here's the other headlight and there's well the reflectors are in here i don't see the lenses yet there's some wrenches and some reproduction parts for headlight oh this is all the headlight like retainers and stuff he was probably just going to put original lights back on it might be another coffee pot maybe oh no it's a boom box you want a boombox you want another boombox the batteries last at least 20 minutes and a piece of wood we don't need let's put that over there congratulations here is all right cool body block some of the original caps there's the original taillight yeah that's important good i was hoping this stuff was around we've got a nice cloth wrapped yeah there's the mirror there's one of the mirrors big old truck mirrors that's good did it have to i don't know if it did guys that's your phone there's the generator mixed in with a mouse nest in it right yeah he's probably we found him in the blob mattress he didn't make it now what is this it says 2829 pickup oh this is the fabric for the roof and this is the directions for putting the wood in this is probably this is the uh that's the original textured fabric so he he was putting the wood he got the wood in but he never got the fabric on but this is the rest of the kit so that's great for me i can just finish the job he was doing and we'll have a roof covering and the instructions are in there all right so we're gonna dig for some of the parts i had already found some of them so under here we had spotted the hood was missing and right there is the hood hidden under the fall harvest stuff oh yeah here's our this is just in time here's for decorating a house with your thanksgiving and halloween here we go timely we do landscaping we do decorate seasonal decorating and christmas right around the corner for the old time trees there it is and he's under from their stairs oh there you go there's the four pieces that one's still got the green underneath red oh there's more parts for the truck under here there's four parts another headlight oh there it is yeah i can i can lift stuff i just can't push things oh it's okay [Applause] this is all all model a stuff here oh okay it's just extra stuff he probably had well maybe not all model s later i don't know that might be these are spring mounts we'll go through it these hooks might be actually for from bed all right we're gonna go upstairs here and see if we can find you forgot to do the moving around yeah i probably need some help from yeah he's got some long parts up there um so up here they were actually living up here for a short period of time but i saw the year up here the other day we found original seats and some parts yeah i don't know what that that looks like a shelf it's kind of stinky so that's all right we're used to it there's the original seat okay let me get out of here that way what was that that's an uh i don't know what's in it but it's a shotgun kit grab the other one yeah let's get we'll get all the parts and then we can look around the moon toy collection there you go oh michelle's toys from when she she loves well not not even from which and then you want to save that forever and then over here is like the spare wheel some of that stuff so we're gonna there's the spare here's the rear fenders so we'll just get you take that down i'll get i'll carry these down or hand them to spencer i'm gonna step over here give a little bit of light afraid of a little dust exhibit away matt's sinuses are horrible got him nice looks like he might have even repainted him yeah i think he did man they're all there too with that said they're all there too yeah i think that's it so once you lock them down they'll straighten and be fine flattened out yeah it was probably just the way they were sitting they might have been sitting over top of something oh you know what i found back here what's that it's a box labeled playboy mags are you serious i'm not even lying we have to pull this out and it's got a string around it and everything playboy mags september of 1982 to september of 1983. um what's underneath more playboy are you serious it's 1960 november 63. i'm in front of your camera sorry that's it is that what they are oh yeah it's playboys i've seen i've seen a couple playboys in there these are playful [Laughter] i'm recording here on my phone and it looks like it's snowing from the dust [Laughter] that's what i'm breathing in it's a good it's a good camera obviously oh yeah there's a supermodel jerry hall jerry hall yeah that's a yeah it's an old clover in 1985. all right so we're walking into the backyard uh when i previewed the truck a couple of days ago uh the family showed me this uh pond that never got never patio area never got finished with waterfall but um back here is the bed for the aaa this is the big big frame for it obviously the wood's gone so it might be kind of heavy that's like the next door oh this isn't bad surprisingly yeah but i think uh there's four of us so we should be able to kind of carry it hopefully probably better off going out around that way yeah let's let me just i mean two people could probably lift it to get it out in the open here i'll grab this is it on yeah yeah i'm sure the wood is kind of like a structural yeah i can get this and if you two want to get that and i'll let spencer just follow us with the comments or do you want me to get one in doesn't matter we can lay it down and it's it's not real heavy it's just off i'll do this all right so we're going forward again in your eye presence there we go turning they're going back now all right probably put all our pile of junk right right where you're going why don't we just throw the jack under the rear oh no because that's the opposite we'll just move the stuff and we'll push it right in the grass yeah and you'll be fine it might actually be a real three because you wanna bump first on the trailer right not that far not that far you're ready all right bring it back good all right oh look at that looks like you're going out for a sunday drive yep rolling simply we might okay let's do it you ready captain yeah i got it for free for my neighbor i got it running around for a year this is what happens when your expanse is sponsored you get [Music] yeah that could have been bad though yeah luckily it didn't uh he must have hit it at us yeah moving up nice and do you think that was smooth it could have been really neat well i was paying attention to the camera like whoa we're going here that's probably pretty good there i'd say yeah all right was that easier than you expected that was way easier than i expected if you were talking about dragging it right on wheels i thought it was going to be like a nightmare that's how it always works you think it's going to be difficult it's not so that now you know how to go to a pre approach mentally in the future oh no it's that's actually the way of reverse psychology because the cars i always think are going to be easy or not you assume everything's bad yeah yeah actually worst case scenario all right it's awesome see the ford logo on the running boards the original rainbow cool stamped everything with four really i must have these doors off too you need that machete it's actually just a sharp little metal stick yeah i think the machete it looks like it's been sharpened a few times yeah i think it's got miles on it there's an axe over there if you wanted it's uh right over here yeah it doesn't work very good tell you what i have a four dollar harbor freight machete it's very good things fantastic i usually keep it in my truck but i have it at work on my desk right now there you go all right you might want to move a little bit he's gonna swing an axe oh in here and it's got some is that some like uh bakery shelf or yeah it's growing into the tree here everything looks all but broken in half man well we gotta get out in the open and see that harley davidson pack on it yeah i think it was the dirt bike rubber on the finger in the driveway kickstand that's you'd be able to save the kickstand you know it's fine to actually sell harley's with that paint scheme on the tank still really yeah it's a neat old dirt bike though dude do you see it has two sprockets on it yeah yeah for uh i guess the different like hill climbing maybe and and trail riding or something or street riding once we're running one's for running from the tops yeah oh my god it kicks over it's like a bicycle with a motor on it hey that moves yeah i know i know yeah the shift rod's missing how is it so it actually is moving a little bit when you're pulling yeah it's trying yeah the stator's moving yep yeah hold that towards the i think you're down you're bottomed out now so it's not going to move much oh it's going yeah it's just not where do you see it trying out yeah yeah is it because of the gear yeah it's because it's in gear oh okay yeah oh it didn't fall apart when you did that duck's still working yeah how do you knock it out of gear the shift lever is missing the lever's gone you got to rotate that back a quick is there a way to put vice grips on it that forward pipe wrench that we found might work there's a pipe wrench right near your uh uh here that might work oh it's got a magnet see this is how we get sidetracked extremely easily it goes backwards to go yeah you want to go down no if it's in first you want to go up one but i would go down to make sure it's in first we'll see if it even moves it might not be even tight enough this this is not a very good pipe wrench yeah no it's a wrench that needs another wrench to tighten it yeah yeah the teeth are not existing on it if we have something see if there's anything in here montgomery county where the truck was should be able to just go straight back into george's car can't be any worse than what your daughters do to your cars nice steer i was gonna say you want to get in and steer all right ready yeah i'm good on the inside edge yeah okay you go there you go i just couldn't see yeah all right we need to use the tractor to throw it around all right so we got the truck home uh justin and uh george and spencer all had the jet um they only had like half a day to spend with me so uh i got the truck off the trailer with those guys and uh now the dust is settled i gotta take a look and see what we got number one i can't believe how easy that thick rolled um this this truck is just like incredibly clean and believe it or not like all the like wheels and tires rolled really nicely the tires had air in it um it's just kind of incredible this thing was stored even though the building looked a little rough it was actually really dry in there and this thing was actually in really good shape so far i hope that's not a bad sign for the rest of the project but i wanted to walk you guys around show you the truck and see what we're working with and kind of some of the neat stuff about it so let's take a walk around so uh number one what i thought was really neat i don't know if we talked about it a lot when we were digging it out but this has the original spare tire carrier on it so this actually folds underneath in this pin um right there walk over here this is the the bed section steak body bed uh but this pin right here goes into that female section and this is the nut that we gotta extract but it folds up it goes in there uh we have the spare tire here now kind of interesting thing i'm not by any means an expert about uh model a restoration or some of the early models but this is a earlier model i think on the smaller ones it's called an ar but this is an early model 28 on these bigger trucks they have the big 20 inch spoked wheels on them instead of the like bud style wheels or the like solid wheels it has let's go over here it also has the the uh handbrake let's hope nothing falls out on me we filled the truck with all the spare parts it also has the handbrake on the left side here is actually right there so that's kind of like a telltale sign if this is an early 28a i think i looked at the uh went on the website and kind of did the research as i say you can enter in the vin number and it tells you and i think this was like october oh yeah we looked it up it was uh justin looked up it was october 11th to the day today so this is october 11th when we pulled the truck out so today to the day from the vin of when the at least when the engine was produced is when we pulled it out so it's 90 some years ago this truck was produced or at least the engine was and we were pulling it out and saving the truck on that day today so that's really crazy to me how this stuff works out there's always patterns and it's kind of neat that we were doing that to the day is when we actually pulled it out so anyways uh engine so the engine as you can see he was kind of like taking it apart and working on it um you could see some overspray where he had repainted the engine um and there's some overspray on like the firewall where he was respraying some stuff no big deal but the coil is laying there we found the um the wires that go from the distributor cap to the uh the plugs we found them laying in the in the truck um and most of the stuff is here um the engine i briefly tried to turn it over by hand when i went to look at it but i haven't really messed with it much i'm hoping we can get it freed up pretty easily uh with how dry everything is i would think so you can see that they were doing something with the gas tank that's like repainted green inside here the wood it looked like he he was doing a wood kit so that's already installed in the truck and we found that you know the um box that had the fabric to go on it so that's gonna be one of the first things we're gonna do is get that fabric back on the roof um otherwise chassis is super clean the back panel is clean there's like no rot in this thing anywhere anywhere and look at those bottoms of the doors ridiculously clean bottom of the cow i think they came with factory rust here and there is like no rust here i'm going to stick my hand behind and i don't feel any patch panels in there that tell me that it was it's been patched before there's been some primer and stuff that's been put on it you can see it has like some old brush painted black paint which i actually kind of prefer i wish the whole thing still had that but otherwise it's either way it's been maintained really really well this is kind of cool it's got like a plug for the door lock and um so yeah so that's all that it's filled with parts inside like i mentioned we were going through the building as you guys saw and found 90 of the parts i've already realized some stuff that we may not have seen that we may have to go back and check on um so yeah that's all that stuff and then we of course got the bed like i mentioned we found all these uh all the separators for the for the wood that goes in the bottom i found those in the upstairs kind of near the bed where somebody was sleeping which is kind of crazy um and the last thing apparently i bought a harley davidson dirt bike we found this thing laying next to the garage and uh you guys saw we dug that out of the garage it was under a tarp didn't know it was there spencer actually spotted it and then we kind of looked at it and dug it out um and i had to bring it home it's rough but i can't leave this old stuff behind and whether i make 25 or 2 500 it doesn't matter it's all about saving this stuff so i bought this thing it's rough um luckily though we kind of like push started it and it has compression let's see if i can get it to push we can hear hear it so it's free just with a little bit of work the engine's free i'm going to order up a kick or a gear shift uh pedal because that's missing we couldn't find anywhere then i can try and work on getting the thing out of gear and then maybe we'll try and get this thing to run too for fun which will be kind of crazy so yeah that's that's all the stuff we got just kind of a brief going through um the plane with this truck basically like i told the family is from the get-go i just want to get this thing running and kind of together and like road-worthy and then i'm going to pass it on to somebody else that's going to love this thing this is not something i think should be hot rodded this is an early 28 so it is a pretty rare model if you're into these aas or even just early fords in general they're kind of special the truck is really clean it's pretty much all there this is the one that i think should be hot rodded this is one that should be pretty much kept original put back together and whether somebody just leaves it as is you know with the you know partially primered and stuff or they take it all the way to the finish line and restore it this is a good example for that so all i'm going to do is just take the fun of trying to get the thing to run and kind of half put it back together to make it more complete and then pass it on to somebody that can make give it its best life i don't think i'll be able to give it the focus so i just like the fun of dragging the stuff out tinkering with it and some of these just have to go on to better homes so that is uh the truck all we can hope is maybe maybe if i get the time we can get this thing running and driving and take it back to the place where we dug it out and show the family these things are not fast but luckily it's close enough i can drive it back there to its resting place i think that would really be really nice that's my goal but we'll see what happens so that is our adventure thank you guys for following along i appreciate it let me know what you think of this old truck uh do you think we should keep
