Seized 51 Chevy pickup can we get it running and driving since it was last on the road in 1976?

[Music] well i was kind of in a rush pick this up so i don't have really any footage of me picking this thing up but uh yeah it's 51 chevy uh motor's stuck at least i can't turn it over by hand so i'm taking for granted it's stuck uh yeah it's the long box she's a biggie but it's in super nice shape pretty much everything's there it's just missing the fuel pump but uh yeah i don't know i'm gonna try to get it loose that's the plan [Music] most of the tires hold air that's good it's nice and clean inside clean for me compared to most stuff i pick up it's not rotten or anything which is pretty rare there's like almost no rust on this thing like it is solid you know typical farm truck stuff kind of some tears and stuff she definitely did her share work probably in the day i just grabbed a tire out of the back see if that'll go onto the front tire because it won't hold any air and i didn't do that but clearly must have been when they pushed it in the barn or something there but or that shed so i don't really know much history it's been sitting probably judging by the front plate since 76 i guess but uh yeah she's uh i know this guy had it for well probably over 10 years he had it uh parked in a it was he built a pole shed he put it in there for 10 years and then it sat outside for a little while before that uh he had plans to do stuff with it but never got around to it so and then rolly found a bunch of these so this one that panel that delivery of the panel like a whole bunch of them that were sitting on the yard so basically just went there and just scooped everything up um i don't know what i'm doing with it though nothing really i don't really have any plans to build it or anything but i do want to try to get it running uh see if i can get the brakes working so i can drive around the yard and then yeah who knows who knows what we do with it after that but uh yeah i know i got just got the keys and everything so that's pretty cool headlight is a little bunk the seat's not bad so i guess i'll wait until the snow goes away and then uh let's see what i can do here i pretty much gonna have to unbolt this this one wheel is frozen so i tried beating on the rim that's not working i'm gonna take the wheel off see if i can get it roll if not i might just torch the drum just so at least i can get the thing to roll put some air into tires unfortunately uh like the fuel pump is missing and the motor is tight so i'm gonna pull all the spark plugs out and fill them up and see if we can get her to start or get her to get her to free up that would be awesome so uh yeah gonna start that [Applause] so right now i'm gonna pretty violently try to beat this drum loose and if she breaks she breaks if she doesn't win [Music] okay so we sacrificed that drum just so we can at least get this truck rolling uh next on the slate is gonna be pulling all the plugs and i'm gonna stab some juice in there and see if we can loosen her up let her sit for a few days so i'm gonna get all these plugs out get some oil in there so pretty much the plan now i'm going to try this stuff move it see if i can free you up pretty much just gonna wax that sucker [Music] full all right [Music] cool so yeah gonna let that sit uh maybe i'll spray her some more tomorrow what every monday let's see wednesday or see if she'll loosen up i hope so be pretty cool this truck probably hasn't been on the road for a really long time it can't be crazy long is it still judging by the phone number but if i look at the side the license plate it says 76 so and they for sure had it over ten years in his shed and if you think there's a chunk of tree growing in the bumper it's been a few years sitting outside but uh the wiring looks good like a lot of it looks solid everything kind of works i'm gonna go pick all that oil up the uh generator i think the doors open and closed nice i got a nice little heater switch it's even got the keys look at this stuff that's pretty rare i never have that never it's a nice clean truck well it's a nice truck nice for me so yeah see if that gets loose that'd be great i know the clutch works i don't think the brake oh i do have a new master so i might actually put it in here even though i buggered up the back drum i might try to get the front brakes working so at least we get some breakage with this one i'm gonna wait till i get the motor loose first and then i'm gonna go roller in the shop hopefully hopefully i get her this week i'll keep spraying it and we'll see what happens you have got to be kidding me all right what it is i just threw a 12 volt battery in for kicks and giggles and uh like i couldn't turn the motor over by hand but i figure i'll just try the starter you know listen to the dead thud when it goes but can you believe it come on that is awesome so freaking awesome [Applause] so it turns over i broke one spark plug i gotta find one yeah i know people dread that i don't change the oil but i don't have any plans to use this and honestly as old as this oil is it's probably still better than our new oil okay that is super cool uh yes i'm gonna find a spark plug and i'm gonna clean these points because we just know instantly these points never work so i'm gonna do that i should get uh 12 volt coil because that won't last very long i'm going to make that tomorrow's project i'll get all this going tomorrow just to play it safe i have the bits but we're losing sunlight in a hurry around here it's starting to get dark uh but i'm gonna get my plugs in there and uh yeah hunt around i'll see if i got some stuff i'll keep going till she gets dark so i have this truck i'm hoping it has a similar motor it's looking right and it looks about the same so i'm gonna steal the fuel pump off of there and just so i can start it up i'll steal a spark plug out of it i don't know if this thing's tight i should actually check that yeah so anyways don't feel bad all right let's get that out of there all right one fuel pump it's even got a good gasket on it just put a bit of spooge on there be good to go well it is getting cold so it's starting to get pretty cold out yes or no a bit of a wuss but i'm going to uh that tire's holding air but this one here i'm going to switch out with a tire that holds there just so i can roll her into the shop make my life a lot easier [Music] well finally got her in uh yeah it's a bit of a struggle by myself but not as much as some other folks have so i'm not gonna complain uh what are we going to do i'm going to i don't want to change everything out on this truck so i'm going to disconnect the coil i'm going to clean the points uh i'll probably just disconnect the generator or the voltage regulator i just pulled the wires i want to run it but i don't want to cook everything i'm going to leave it as stock as i can other than the coil because well you run a 12 volt or a 6 volt coil at 12 volt there they last a little while i'll tell you that before they just violently explode so let's not do that so i'm going to change the coil clean the points i will disconnect the generator and uh don't turn anything else on that i don't need and we should be golden well i bought me a new this is a brand new battery for this truck so the truck's actually like really nice so i'm not really gonna screw it up i'm just gonna throw in a actual six volt battery and lever all six volt um yeah 100 on the tank but i'll probably just throw a boat tank in it for now um just got back from work so let everything warm up around but i'm gonna start tackling the points and uh yeah see if we get some spark see if we can get this thing to fire up tonight that would be cool so i've decided to leave this truck as stock as i can so we dropped in a new battery cleaned up the posts um i'm gonna clean the points now i guess i'll turn i need the keys on yeah so i'm gonna file up the points see if i get them to come back to life and uh we'll just spin her over see if she'll fire with a little bit of gas down the fire hole there all right this one's for all you old cats out there who complain that i don't have a file i don't know why these come like this i'm kind of wondering if these are actually busted or not but either way i'll just file them and try it again it's hard to do [Music] so we got some spark and uh everything's back together i haven't hooked up anything to the fuel line yet over here i'm just going to pull that air cleaner off i'll just squirt some gas down the carb and we'll just see if we can get a puff of life out over before i go much further here so this works so i'm just going to fill the vent i'll fill the bowl up transfer's been sitting so it'll probably leak out there that might be a little much for okie dokie smash the button and see what happens [Music] so sure doesn't sound like it's got a lot of compression let's give her a little compression test and see what's going on here [Music] [Music] that's uh definitely a problem not sure if it's my rings or if we got stuck valves if you got two of these like that then then we got gotta go elsewhere here i'm thinking it is [Music] [Applause] oh yeah gotta dig a little deeper let's start with the valve cover that was definitely stuck that one's probably stuck oh yeah there's like tons of them that are like stuck all right not sure how i'm gonna go about this i guess i'll pull the rocker off and see if i can just tap the valves and see if they want to shrink loose [Music] hmm okay now let's see if they get these to move okay looks like i got three valves that are stuck there's uh these two here and this one the other ones i kind of played with them a little bit and they're freeing up these ones are still a little stuck i've been uh soaking them down with this stuff and uh even though you're not supposed to do it i've been tapping them down gently and then i uh i've been stabbing my pry bar into there and pulling them back up slowly [Music] i don't think these valves are all the way up i think some of these are still semi-stuck now that i'm seeing this [Music] well i thought the valves are up but they're not they're still like i guess they still got to go up a crapload like this one's okay like this possibly they're out of adjustment but i doubt that like these two are probably good not so good i don't even know how the intake could be that far out unless the valves are just that crazy out of adjustment i don't know i'll see that compression but i think i got to keep working the valve some more okay so there's a lot going on right now the best i can tell the valves are actually closed i still don't have much compression so i'm gonna give her a big slug of atf in there and see if it's the rings that are stuck and we'll just see if we put a bunch of atf if we get some more compression right now we got about 10 or 15 pounds in there so you know that's plenty but let's see if that improved our situation oh yeah so it's a ring scenario um okay i'm gonna work on these valves a little more because i think they still need some more work but i think what we got to do is uh i think the motor probably was stuck before and just bumping it knocked it free but i guess all the rings are stuck so what i'm gonna do yeah well i'm gonna work the valves a bit once i got that sorted out then i'm just gonna pop some fluid into all these cylinders and uh see if we get compression all the way across if we do then there's some hope she'll start okay everything's kind of a mess here but what i'm gonna do is load every cylinder with some atf i'm going to throw the plugs back in and see if i'll get it to fire if i can get at least run a little bit the rings will probably loosen up and uh we should be golden ah i totally missed that whatever i'll fix that up get this working here so [Music] all right try again oh it's looking hopeful it is starting to look hopeful she wants to okey dokey boosters on just want to hear this sucker fire oh his clothes kind of popped up there wow see if i can handle the throttle here [Music] so [Music] [Applause] all right leave that starter a little break i know what that banging and popping you're hearing is there's still of one exhaust valve that's sticking on this side but i'm hoping when i fire it up she's gonna knock her loose that's what i'm hoping but uh yeah i'm gonna give the starter a little bit of a break here it's getting close boys getting close guys getting close i know it's boring looking under here but hey god knows how long it's been since this thing's been on the road i will have to guess it's been since 76. so that's a long time and considering i'm pretty sure the motor was stuck we got her loose then we had stuck valves we still got one stock valve so whatever i'll figure that one out but come on baby it's gonna happen yet all right well i put the valve cover back on while i was waiting for the old starter to cool down so i'll uh let's give her compression test again just to see what cylinders are making sense here [Music] well the good news is she has compression the bad news is it's only about 65 pounds a cylinder one being a little worse so we're gonna give her the old atf bath again try it and if we don't have any luck tonight i'm gonna fill all the cylinders and let it soak overnight and see if we can get her to fire no ah been at this for a few hours here i think i'm gonna let this sit overnight see if that stuff soaks into the rings and hopefully i have better luck in the morning it's a little cool out let me fill this bowl up again had the motor pickling for a few days well a day anyways see if some life comes out of here sure that noise is maybe it's the water pump she wants to go it's like it's a compression game i gotta get this thing to run long enough so these rings will free up so i gotta get ready for the next time when she fires that i just burn on the gas [Music] [Music] [Music] so far so i'm popping all the plugs and this is what i'm using to put my concoction into the cylinders before i try to fire it most of the time i don't need much we're just trying to pump the compression up enough that she'll catch and fire nothing much on there just snap this in the hole give her about four or five pumps plug back in try the next one [Music] [Music] let's hold fire and hold [Music] oh my goodness eh this is so close but so far i'm gonna pull the plug let it dry pickle it again tonight see what happens tomorrow tomorrow's another day well it's not starting maybe it'll just at least see well i should say that it's sort of started a couple times but let's see if my compression scenarios increase that's not bad well it's not good but we're about 80 pounds or so should run on that now it's coming from zero 85 so we're getting better that's a good one that's a hundred pounds hey a couple days ago this sucker was stuck so i'm gonna say we're get we're we're progressing we're getting better there's got to be still a couple stinkers in here though that's one of them was like 65 pounds 60 pounds 65 pounds whatever somewhere in that range anyways i have a bad feeling about this cylinder for some reason yeah that was still a stickler that was only got like 35 pounds it looks like that valve is still hanging a bit [Music] that was like 95 i think this one will be pretty good too well by good you know 75 pounds that's pretty good well what are you sunday night i'm gonna pick her up and we'll try again tomorrow see if we get a little more poof and life out of here we'll do the old i don't know what i'll do not sure what i want to do let's just do the atf give her about 10 pumps at each one okey dokey give her another shot no we had her one shot probably lost it [Music] pretty much feel i have to give her the 12-volt bump because she's not turning fast enough [Music] we're almost there [Music] uh oh a little better i didn't lose in this bell picked this built up so [Music] awesome [Music] uh i don't want her to get hot i want those rings to loosen up thinking i gotta open the door here she's a little smoky but hey that's pretty good considering that sucker hasn't been or ran in how many years a week ago that motor was seized i need a little bit of fresh air cool so i'm going to throw that's why i kept touching that coil i just have 12 volt on it right now i was thinking this thing just needed more cranking power just to get going so i'm going to try to rig up um stuff rig up a jerry can i want to get that motor running i want to get it warm i want to get all those rings to knock loose there and we should be golden but anyways i'm going to set up this fan get this place cleared out so i'm going to try just turning the idle up and uh let's see if i get this thing a full fuel so i think that fuel pump i put on is no good either we're gonna have to find another fuel pump but at least she starts good look at that how could you not be pumped about this let's see here [Music] oh yeah we have gone from a stuck motor to uh well it runs pretty good i've changed the fuel pump but that one is bad so i got to get another fuel pump yet i think i have some more of these motors lying around the yard so i'm going to grab one of those but yeah very very cool we went from a seized motor to stuck valves to the rings not working to a fully functioning running motor here it's like cherry okay i have a good feeling about this fuel pump i stole it off the kid's car because he's not running a six cylinder he's gonna be putting an eight in there so this should work this should be nice so let's get that in there and see if she bumps want to see a clean truck this is it man look there where they normally rot nothing [Music] look over here where they normally rot nothing oh the little spot right there but the inners are cherry this side's got a little fit right there not bad though she's pretty good all the typical rot spots are actually super nice i mean i don't know how desirable it is being like the nine footer but he's a drum now because i had to cut that but that's fine if it was mine if i was keeping it i would just uh change this out for a modern diff anyways just so a guy could drive it a little better on the highway so i thought i had a master cylinder turns out i don't um but i'm gonna take this one off see if i can rebuild it um i don't know if i have any kits i'm just curious if i can clean that one up same thing with the wheels i'm gonna pop the front wheels off get the drums off and see if i can just hone i do have like an old-school cup kit so i can rebuild these wheel cylinders so i want to try at least get some front brakes so yeah let's get this all apart [Music] so but i popped the cap took the end off it actually looks promising so uh i don't want to push that through i'm going to clean this a little bit first before i try to push that o-ring out or whatever you want to call it the cup i know my workbench is a complete disaster don't seem too bad doesn't seem too bad maybe it'll clean up i don't know [Music] [Music] freaking a cool well let's put that back on the truck now let's hope that i can do those front wheel cylinders oh that'd be great so we got that thing all back installed full of fluid new cotter pin now i'm going to pull the wheels off and see if stuff's rebuildable in the front i'm not dealing with the back because it's kind of bunk i broke that one side and the other side's whatever i'm not even gonna bother so i'm just gonna lower this thing down get the wheels off and uh pull those wheel cylinders off and with any hope i can uh clean them up like i did the master cylinder [Music] [Music] even the cups look nice [Music] it's still nice and soft there's no tearing on the air filter on because i got like zero accelerator pumps so i have to give her a hand swash to get started but not a big deal seems to work okay after that so yeah i think we're ready to go take her for a rip it's got coolant thinner we'll see if the heater core leaks find that out that's always fun but yeah well it's fired up [Applause] not crazy amounts of oil pressure but oil pressure
