"So, you see, ummm, we took the V4 here and then added two more pistons for more power and now we got a V6. So Timmy over here in our parts area said...ya know...hey this is crazy guys but here me out. Lets slap another two pistons on for more power and get us a V8!"

"Well now, we thought he was talking crazy but by golly we got ourselves a v8. What's that kid going to think of next? Two more pistons for a V10? Lord almighty Timmy."

I'm fascinated by old time manufacturing, back in a time without computers. Seems even more amazing than all the magic we do nowadays.

Iā€™m generally not very interested in cars, but stuff like this reminds me what incredible machines they are. The level of precision and number of moving parts, all of which are solid metal and require specialized machines to make, it really is a massive achievement that they eventually made these things available to every American.

not a big fan of ford (the company or the man), but this was a really big deal. this engine has done a ton of work in pretty much every continent on this earth. there are plenty that still run in their stock form. they made low hp because of the tech limitations of the time and because the power was made down low. this motor powered cars and big trucks. it did a huge amount of work and more power wasn't really needed. the transmissions and rear-ends of the time couldn't handle much more power.

edit: some really cool engines were being built by packard at around this time. actually, pretty much everything packard did in those days was pretty damn cool.

My grandfather had a '36 Ford V8 and caught caught speeding so many times he lost his license. That didn't stop him, when he got speeding again the judge said either Jail or Army. When he got out of the Army (after being an aviation mechanic in WWII) my grandma wouldn't ever let him have a V8 powered car again.

What an interesting doc. Thank you for sharing.

Also I wish Muncie, Indiana still took potatoes and live stock or grain bags for traffic infractions/violations
