Ranking All Generation 1 Pokemon - Tier List

[Music] hey guys ron here and i made a tier list of all the generation one pokemon what are the criteria you ask well i simply judge these pokemon on how much they entertain me over the last 25 years whether it be their designs concept lore or appearance in various media i basically put them all in order in which they made my life worth living the tears are as follows ester are the pokemon that i personally love the most the ones that i'm extremely biased on and a plus tier are pokemon i've judged to be basically perfect mons i think are way above most pokemon a tier are amazingly successful pokemon e tier are great pokemon basically what the average pokemon is to me because if i didn't think most pokemon were great i wouldn't enjoy this franchise the minus tier are good pokemon not the best but pokemon i still enjoy c tier is fine below average pokemon that i don't dislike but don't particularly like either d tier is below average pokemon i do dislike f tier i absolutely hate but i don't think those exist in the first generation of pokemon at least for me let's go in pokedex order beginning with bulbasaur is amazing it's a the home render doesn't do it justice but it's such a good archetype for a pokemon in general so cute yet mysterious ivysaur i actually like slightly more than bulbasaur a great balance between bulbasaur and well venusaur venusaur is cool i love the contrast between like ugly monster and pretty flower mega venusaur is not as good as normal venusaur the added elements don't strengthen the design still great gmax venusaur is a bit more epic i like the direction they went with it a charmander is awesome such a cute and cool guy hey charmeleon isn't as well rounded as charmander but still a great concept zobe charizard is amazing i'm not a charizard hater i understand why it's popular you know mega charizard x is even better kind of perfect one of my favorite megas it's exactly what i wanted really mega charizard y isn't as cool but still on par with normal charizard are just not as sleek gmax charizard i love again i'm not the type of guy to hate something because of overexposure this thing is monumental in my opinion uh squirtle is the cutest kanto starter i adore all three though war turtle isn't as cool as squirtle but slightly more interesting than charmeleon blastoise i kinda like more than charizard i always have it's it's more it's a more original concept too mega blastoise is an a pretty much what i wanted from mega blast toys like a tank gmax blastoise is even better it's it's what i didn't know i wanted this is what gmax is all about this is why i love gmax forms caterpie is good i get joy from looking at it so be minus metapod is fine not as entertaining as caterpie hardin is funny though butterfree is good too it's not the ideal pokemon design but it's iconic gmax butterfree though is amazing i think it's beautiful maybe my favorite wings in pokemon actually they did a fantastic job revitalizing my interest in butterfly i think weedle's cool but not as cute as butterfree so it's fine see cocoon is cool too but i have no desire to really think about it it's fine beedrill though is great right and to be simple yet effective mega bee drill is even better it turned a great pokemon into something special it's scary sleek and mesmerizing pidgey's fine probably the blandest bird but still cute nothing wrong with it very basic though pidgeotto is cooler that's an actual pokemon nothing genius though pidgeot's an even cooler pidgeotto megapidgeot is an even cooler pidgeot now it's finally amazing i love the colors rattata it's it's fine at least it's purple and doesn't have the exact proportions of a rat lol and rattata is better but still rattata you know at least the concept is better eradicates a bit better it's intimidating i i would use it but it's still not the ideal pokemon alolan raticate is even better it's actually good now because this concept is interesting and looks even more intimidating spiro is better than pidgey it's still a bland bird it's fine nothing offensive fearow is good nothing crazy but i always thought it was somewhat cool very forgettable compared to later birds though atkins is the first dislike i'm not a fan that it literally looks like a snake and has no concept beyond that at least pidgey isn't literally a pigeon and rattata doesn't have the proportions of a rat or the colors it looks like a snake from any franchise arbok is better it's an actual pokemon now it looks sick actually nothing genius but it's a good pokemon pikachu however is a perfect design its design has been refined more than any other pokemon in order to create the perfect mascot it's cute and cool what a pokemon should be g-max pikachu is hilarious such an entertaining design a perfect call back to fat pikachu raichu is really cool i've always loved it not not as perfect as pikachu but still fun alolan raichu is even better it finally has its own merit i'm very glad about its cute existence santru santru sanshru is undoubtedly cute it's great it's brick patterns are very creative alolan sancho is even more creative but slightly less cute it's it's a quality pokemon design though sand slash is amazing i'm a big fan of sandslash a very complete pokemon i so cool alolan sandslash is even more creative it's such a fantastic form i i think it's slightly less balanced in design though but still really cool nidoran female is cute it's a good pokemon but not as good looking as its counterpart nidorina is slightly better it's a very interesting design nidoqueen is amazing though a queen nidoran male i think is a better balance of cute and cool and its color scheme is pretty nidorino is very balanced it's not as appealing as nidoran male still great though needle king however is our first s tier you can't say nino king doesn't deserve to be here because s here is reserved for my absolute favorite pokemon which nidoking is among it's in my top ten i love it clefairy is really cute a good potential mascot but not a perfect pokemon clefable is pretty much less cute than a clefairy still a good pokemon though vulpix is one of the most underratedly cute pokemon in existence it deserves more love alolan vulpix is even better one of the best ideas pokemon has ever had nine tails is such a beautiful pokemon so pure and pretty alolan ninetales is an s to your pokemon it's my absolute favorite regional form alluring and fabulous jigglypuff is great a bit overrated but such an appealing character wigglytuff has become more appealing to me as time goes on mystery dungeon may have something to do with it its color scheme is very pleasing to the eye zoo that's fine i like it it has no superfluous detail golbat has a much more interesting design b-minus here seems pretty good i'm actually a huge oddish fan i'm always happy when looking at it gloom isn't as appealing it's not terrible but it's not great it has its place vileplume is great though it's an interesting and complete design cute and powerful looking my opinion on parasect has changed completely since the release of legends arceus it is so entertaining to see these little creatures defend their territory parasect is a great concept a zombie bug that isn't too off-putting i wish you i wish it was usable vettenet has never been my favorite i always thought it was bland with no discerning attributes venomoth is probably the blandest moth pokemon in existence it's not ugly but not what pokemon is all about dick looks good i like the concept and and the execution but not nothing crazy alolan diglett is clever a bit more interesting but still just a diglett i like it though the trio isn't much of an evolution i'm not a fan of evolved forms that just add more heads especially if it isn't a creative reason like magneton but still cool and inoffensive pokemon really a lollondug trio is more fun and creative but the original felt uh complete enough at the end of the day i enjoy its existence math is great who doesn't like math it's hard to put it into words really alone meowth i actually kind of prefer i guess i'm actually a fan of math forms so glaring mouth is here persian is relatively bland but its pureness is appealing it's a handsome cat oh forgot about gigantomax mouth this is pretty epic i'm gonna put it here i love it long cat is awesome and now i have to do a lowland persian it's not entertaining i understand the origin so i don't really dislike it but i'm disappointed psyduck's great another entertaining pokemon it's not genius or anything but it does the job i'm more of a fan of gold duck i love this personality and his design is sleek manky's cool i'm a fan when two animals are successfully combined i like his energy too primape is fun i enjoy pokemon that embody a personality growlith is cute and loyal looking very appealing he's silly and growlith i actually like this form slightly more it's more interesting and maybe even cuter arcanine is an s tier it's my second favorite pokemon a perfect embodiment of what a pokemon should be powerful yet adorable history and arcanine is an a i prefer the color scheme of the original but they nailed everything else polywag is incredibly cute very creative and charming polyworld feels like a mascot at this point one of one of the most original looking pokemon polywrath isn't as special but it's still a cool looking mod abra is an underrated design cute yet mystical very unique cadabra is just a better abra and alakazam is just a better kadabra such an imaginative family mega alakazam is even better than alakazam the beard was a genius edition machop is cute and inspirational a great pokemon machoke is even better and machamp is just machoke with more arms it's an amazing pokemon gmax mott champ is not only amazing it's an ass tier it's my favorite g-max design bro looks like a titan lava arms and black legs this guy looks like a god bellsprout is very entertaining for what it is i put it in because i like its existence weapon bell isn't as entertaining it's fine i don't hate it victory bell is way better though it's great tentacle's a good pokemon i'm glad it isn't a literal jellyfish they were creative tentacruel is an upgrade a quality pokemon terrifying but with personality anything above it is a b-plus in my opinion i'm actually a fan of geodude it's not the most creative but it makes up for it in personality omg dude is as good they honed in on that personality by giving it magnetic eyebrows i love graveler it's more interesting than jude even a lowland graveler is a downgrade the additions make it look dirty and less appealing i always thought golem was amazing so eight-tier i get it's a little different than graveler but it looks like an actual creature with a rock shell it fits gen 1 a lot alolan golem is a slight step down still awesome though its magnetic railgun and iron beard not only look good but are very creative ponyta is stupendous cute and captivating exactly what a fire type should be gallerian ponyta is perfect my second favorite regional form it's crazy how cute it is i want to look at it all day rapidash is beautiful we all know it let me actually move these up gallerian rapidash isn't as successful but it's still beautiful i like it more than i used to slowpoke is fun i i love its existence very unique design too gallerian slowpoke is a downgrade though i don't like the combination of yellow and pink it's still it's still good though slow bro is a great mod i'll put it here right there even more interesting than a slope book mega slow bro is an amazing pokemon it's got lore personality a great design and entertaining execution galerion slowbro is fun too i i like it more than cantonian slow bro who wouldn't like a blaster arm magnemite is good a decent object mod and an iconic design like that i think magneton makes a lot of sense magnets attract other magnets and it looks like a natural progression i think farfetch'd is acceptable a good pokemon for what it is but not great in general gallerian farfetch'd is great though a total upgrade it took a simple joke concept and made it more serious doduo is good one of the least offensive designs in kanto dodrio is an upgrade of doduo i actually love using it in game it's a fun pokemon to have ah it seals fine it has elements to differentiate it from an actual seal but barely pretty it's a it's a bit simple but it's good would have been great if it had a mega to add some color though grammar is fine it's got a great personality but it's it's very uncreative oh all in grammar is more creative but still a grimer let me move things around muck fits the concept i feel like grimer was the afterthought while muck is the actual concept nothing genius though it would have been panned if it came out in generation five alolan muck i love it's way more creative that's that's an actual concept i love the iridescence shelter's cute it's good cloister is intimidating i've always thought it looked hardcore it's a great pokemon castle is like a shallowest cloister song it fits it's a simple design but still a great pokemon we all know that hunter is even better it's an amazing pokemon an iconic ghost only surpassed by kangar is an example of a perfect pokemon it's what i think about when i think of a ghost it's one of the most entertaining pokemon in existence mega gengar is even more entertaining how about it here a brilliant concept with more interesting colors gmax gengar is in the same tier it's a genius interpretation nightmarish and fun another form that shows how entertaining this pokemon is onyx is great a bit simple than the ideal pokemon but very well executed drowsy is good it's not like what i want every pokemon to look like but it's good for what it is hypno is slightly more fun it's brought a lot of creepy lore to the franchise and i appreciate that crabby is just a crab it's fun to look at but it's just it's just a fine design kindler however is more intimidating to well it's a well-executed crap pokemon nothing genius but it nails everything that it tries to do but g-max kingler is the most underrated g-max pokemon it's amazing it resembles a japanese spider crab with a bubble beard it's scary it makes me feel things voltorb is good it's nothing creative but it's a good mimic the syrian fault orb is actually better way more creative electrode is fun i like its smile he's suing electrode as a downgrade though because it's not smiling anymore and not as creative as we wanted it to be i think execute is fine it's a pile of seeds that look like eggs nothing crazy exeggutor is better it's it's a great monster design but alolan exeggutor is amazing this is a total upgrade this is what exeggutor should be cubone is also a really compelling pokemon lore wise and has a unique design too marowak is slightly less interesting as a character at least but from a design standpoint it's way cooler it's in the same tier but alolan marowak is amazing it's perfect i can't get enough of this guy one of the best looking pokemon in existence green fire you gotta be kidding me game only is great i think it's a good representation of the discipline hitmonchan is a bit less creative but i can't say it's not charming nikkitang is fine it's far from the ideal pokemon but i can't really say it has any explicit flaws coughing's a good pokemon way better than grammar fun personality too wheezing is even better i'll put it here i love how this design conveys the agony of being a mutated monster now gallerian wheezing that thing is amazing i'm gonna put it in a i love this concept the design and execution it's fun interesting and clever my horn is a great pokemon a rock rhino without being a literal rhinoceros one of the most original shapes in a pokemon design rhidon is even better i think it should be an a right here it's like the archetypical pokemon it looks the most like what pokemon used to be it's like a time capsule in a pokemon's design chassis is a great pokemon it's cute but it's its form expresses its bulk tangle is fine it definitely wouldn't look like this in later gens it's fun but far from the most creative pokemon kangaskhan however is very unique and entertaining i love the contrast between nurturing and primal mega kangaskhan is even more fun it felt like history in the making when this form was revealed horsey is great a simple yet effective design sieger's even better it's just a cooler horsey gold dean's a fish it's pretty but i won't ever use it seeking isn't pretty anymore and i still don't want to use it it's fine though sorry is a good pokemon what what can i say i'm not going to pretend like it's in the same tier as something with a face like a kangaskhan or starmie which i do like more than staryu it's a good-looking pokemon with dynamic animation in the game mr mime is fine i don't hate it but it's far from what i think a pokemon should look like gallerian mr mime is is better it's creepier but that's intentional i think it was a good idea to lean in on on that aspect and it's new ice tapping ice tapping ice tap tap dancing that's that's the term the type dancing concept is pr it's nice it's a good creative concept scyther is excellent i'm a bit biased but it goes in a plus tier i always thought scyther was like pinnacle of cool what can i say i love green dudes with scythes jinx is the opposite now this design i dislike it's not a good pokemon a pokemon with a good origin but one of the worst executions electabuzz is better i'll put him in b a good example of a great pokemon i love how unique and feral it looks magmar is not as appealing as electabuzz but it's still a good pokemon it's a bit all over the place but it has a it has its place i like pincer is less creative it's relatively boring but a good pokemon nonetheless it's not a waste of space or anything though megapincer however is great the added colors and interesting wings really do help it improve it makes it look way more intimidating but also magnificent tauros is boring it doesn't fumble any execution so it's still good but it's one of the least creative concepts here it's whip-like tails are somewhat clever though it's strong too but i like furo more magikarp is good too mostly because of its potential the whole concept is entertaining and its design does sell the purpose gyarados is amazing one of the only pokemon that is fully atrocious no adorable attributes in sight but that's the point it's the it's the embodiment of rage mega gyarados is a bit goofier i like its design a lot and the concept makes sense but it's not as cohesive as normal gyarados it's great though lapras is perfect though a flawless design powerful yet adorable what a pokemon should be really gmax lapras is impressive it's amazing though it's not as complete as lapras but i wouldn't want it any other way ditto is cute the concept and its existence are appreciated and its design matches its purpose but i can't give up pink blob in a b is a great tier though eevee is undoubtedly cute it's not perfect for what i want to see in a pokemon but it's perfect for what it is it's one of the few pokemon where disliking it is kind of a you problem it's not evs gmax ev is a step down messing with evie's design will do that it's still eevee so it's a b at least but g max tv is actually my least favorite gmax form it's not that interesting vaporeon on the other hand is an s tirmon i can't express how much i love vaporeon and i've loved it since i was four so my reasons are pure it's everything a pokemon should be and more jolteon actually used to be my favorite eeveelution as a kid because it's edgy and cool but it's not the most creative evolution still amazing it's an eeveelution for crying out loud so it's gonna be in it which is why flareon is in a who cares if it isn't the best in battle it still looks like this it's adorable yet fierce porygon is very aesthetically pleasing it has one of my favorite color schemes in a pokemon and a very great concept ammonite has risen through the ranks ever since twitch plays pokemon i've grown to really appreciate its design too it's a it's a great pokemon amastar is undoubtedly great too i put it in b it's very scary but still fun enough to be a pokemon kabuto is good close to being in c-tier but nothing's what nothing's wrong with it it does what it can i like it's hidden eyes kabutops though has always been my favorite of the canton fossils it's amazing looking and it isn't just straight up a real animal like the previous three it's an original concept and successful design aerodactyl is great not the most creative or inspiring design but it's still a cool mount mega aerodactyl is slightly better it definitely makes it more interesting i love the concept that this may be its true appearance snorlax is an amazingly well executed pokemon so iconic cute and cuddly but intimidating and powerful now gmax snorlax is an amazing concept to me i'm a huge fan of this idea it's another example of what i think gigantic max forms should be a fun and creative concept legendary bird time articuno is a classic near perfect it's beautiful and magical galerion articuno is also amazing it's very surprising that this works now zapdos is my personal favorite of the legendary birds it's scary and stunning gulerian zapdos is still amazing i'm a huge fan of this interpretation i love everything about it i'm simply more noticeably drawn to the cantonia zeptos multrace isn't the best legendary bird but it's still a phoenix so it's a great pokemon but not the most imposing gallerian moltres on the other hand is perfect what a glow up i don't have to convince you of this pokemon's majesty dratini is super cute it looks and feels rare it's something special dragonair is even more enjoyable to look at i think it's one of the most beautiful pokemon generation one dragonite isn't the perfect evolution of dragon air and it's practically my least favorite pseudo legendary but it's still amazing it's a very endearing pokemon it's so fun to know that this kind looking monster is no pushover mewtwo's an s not only the perfect pokemon but also one of the most interesting pokemon in existence i'll always be entertained when mewtwo is on the screen mega mewtwo x is a big step down though it's still great i'm not gonna pretend like it's worse than an exeggutor but it's not the best execution mega mewtwo y is a little better i think it's great i was very happy when i first saw it it's a great pokemon that simply doesn't hold up to the s-tier original and mew is muse-perfect literally flawless the pinnacle of existence cute with infinite power that's what a pokemon is all about i hope you enjoyed this tier list if you want generation 2 to
