[Music] welcome back everyone anthony fair here and today we are going to shoot outside we are at clyde warren park because the weather is absolutely gorgeous outside and here in texas if you are familiar with it we have huge extremes it's either extremely cold or extremely hot today it's kind of perfect so i figured why not get outside but topic for today is playing the game with the authorized dealer it's a topic that i get asked a lot of questions about and a lot of interest shown in it because we all want to buy sport models at retail so i'm going to get into it some tips and tricks right after this okay first things first what is the game and what is it that we're going to talk about today the game is one of two things it's either building a rapport with an authorized dealer in hopes of getting the opportunity to buy sport models at retail or it is spending money buying undesirable pieces to get your name bumped up the list to also buy sport or get the opportunity to buy sport models at retail so how did this become a game it's pretty simple it's supply and demand we all want the watches that we can't get we see our friends wearing it we see a superstar we see an ad in a magazine that promotes it and we call our dealer can't get it it makes us want it more authorized dealers know this and they they realize that everyone's going after the same same pieces so they use that to her to their advantage to sell non-desirable stuff now people say that that's trickery or it's manipulation or it's just flat-out that they do this but if you put yourself in their perspective as the as the business owner imagine this 70 of your inventory is non-desirable while 30 is very desirable and you realize you can either pair the non-desirable with a desirable piece and move inventory that way or you can ask customers to advance their name on a list by buying a non-desirable piece in hopes of getting this piece either way at the end of the day it does the same goal which is moves product and that's what they do and anybody in the same business would do the same anybody in any business would do the exact same thing and if you say you wouldn't you're lying or you're setting your business up for failure in a market like this another thing to remember is they don't care how much money you have they don't care how immediately you are able to buy a piece from them there's a million people out there that could buy these pieces um myself i don't have a million dollars sitting in the bank but if an authorized dealer called me and said i'm gonna sell you a million dollars worth of sport models today at retail i promise you i'd have a wire in their account by the end of the day and i don't have the money already ready but i could find it so the first thing i want you to do as we get into this is i want you to separate the idea that rolex corporate and the sales people at an authorized dealer are the same people they're not rolex dictates the rules and they provide the inventory and they tell the dealers when they get it it's up to the sales people to decide how they want to sell it and who they want to sell it to now rolex corporate can they can emphasize rules and procedures on how to go about picking these but at the end of the day it's up to the sales people to decide who they want to get these pieces and they're going to choose people that best represents their client base that best represent a loyal retail customer a customer that's going to return and they're not trying to sell on the people they know are going to flip it now do they know people flip them of course they do they they know that and they do take strides to prevent that which is why we're gonna go through some steps today now there's two ways to play the game you can be genuine or you can spend money plain and simple now if you are in the business to or if you're watching this video because your only idea is to get pieces at retail so you can flip them you're going to want to listen to option number two which is spend money if you're a true collector a true connoisseur enthusiast and you really do want to get some of these pieces at retail because you're trying to build a collection and you're not going to go the secondary market route then option one is for you this is what i want you to pay attention to and it's all about being genuine first thing you want to do go visit an ad in your local area and meet a salesperson introduce yourself um you need to start building rapport with someone you've got to get to know them we're just going to pick a name we're gonna pick travis you walk into the authorized dealer and you meet travis he's the first one to present you introduce yourself tell them who you are where you're from um tell them what brought you into the store talk about your collection talk about what got you into the business if you've got some stories that are tied to a specific piece share it with them build some rapport get to know this person at the end of the day sells these salesmen they are people too and if you treat them like one you're gonna have a much better chance at eventually getting what you want if you walk in there and you you've got your ego and you've got your your black american express card ready to go and you're gonna be boastful and talk about how you could buy anything if they'll just give it to you it goes back to that first story anybody can do that and they have a list of people ready to buy that that's not going to get you moved up the list putting them down treating them like a salesperson typically gets treated is not going to work you need to treat them as if it were a family member your mom treat them how you treat your mom talk respectfully be genuine and show your interest the second thing is i want you to pick two or three desirable pieces that you really want to get and express your interest in those and tell them that that is your goal to get the pieces and tell them why you want that or share again be personable if you walk in there and you just start telling them you want every sport model they're going to kind of under their breath laugh at you and just brush it off you've got to pick a couple pieces and be specific the best way i recommend doing that is think about the profit scale if these pieces were to be sold on the secondary market which one brings the most profit the way i gauge how i start with an authorized dealer is i go in and i request some stuff but you don't just start requesting the white daytona the blue sky dweller or the pepsi start small start with the no date sub a date sub maybe a batman jubilee in the description below i'll put a i'll rank the sport models or the most desirable pieces from the easiest to get to the hardest to get but if you just simply think the one that brings the most profit on the secondary market is going to be the hardest to get if that's your goal walking in there you're going to have the hardest time getting it start small and build your way up don't think that because you only ask for a date or a no date sub you're never going to get a white daytona it starts with that and then you move to the next thing maybe you get an oyster flex daytona maybe you get another sport model or a white or a black sky-dweller and then you eventually get the wider black daytona or the blue sky-dweller whatever the most coveted piece is for you i want you to remember do not ever try to act superior to your salespersons you are no better than they are and if you have any thought in your mind going in there that you are you're going to hurt yourself treat them as if treat them how you want to be treated again they're people they want to sell these watches to genuine individuals that they know are truly going to appreciate it and they're going to come back now once you get into this and you get to where you know someone you're not don't expect a piece right away don't expect to peace within the first week the first month the first two months if it happens that's awesome it's a great thing but you know if you can get a piece in three months you're doing good when you get that piece you need to thank them you need to be sincere you need to write reviews get on their website get on google get on yelp leave a review get in some of the forums rolex forums is a great one shout this person out talk about your experience and really praise the experience that you had and send this person referrals that's a great thing you can even start doing all that stuff before you get that sport model i promise you it's gonna pay off imagine walking into an a.d or imagine you work for an a.d a guy comes in he's sincere he meets you talks a little bit about you shows his genuine interest and then he leaves comes back a week a week later checks in looks at some stuff hey keep me in mind i'll talk to you soon and then two or three weeks later you see a review pop up on google or your boss walks in and he's saying hey you got a review what did you sell this guy and you realize that this guy's been in here a couple times you haven't even sold him anything but he went on google yelp rolex forums wherever it's at and he shouted you out just on a great experience didn't mention any specifics other than he had a great experience he mentioned you by name he talked about your store that's huge guess what's going to happen the next time i get a piece in if i'm this if i'm that salesperson and i get a desirable piece in who do you think i'm going to be thinking about that guy not the 10 other people in here that said that they would buy whatever i've got whenever i get it in so referrals and reviews lastly is thank you gifts if and when you do get that piece you want always always give a thank you gift i always send my people something based on i try to figure out who they are maybe you find them on social media figure out what some of their interests or their likes are and send them a gift based on that it doesn't have to be an expensive gift it doesn't have to have a monetary or a money value to it although you can do that too i've i've done everything from concert tickets to children's books to tickets to um i gave airline tickets one time i've given a guitar one time i've given mont blanc pens i've taken coffee you can do stuff even as small as coffee and donuts on a saturday morning so show your appreciation option two this is for the guys that are looking to get in there real quick get some sport models throw some money at it move your name up the list and get these pieces where you can flip or maybe you don't even want to flip them maybe you're just in a better position financially where you can throw some money at this play the game a little bit and get the pieces much faster option one is going to take patience and persistence option two it's about strategy and spending money so the first thing you're going to want to think about is there's smaller ads and there's bigger ads if you go to a smaller ad out in a rural area not in a big city you're going to have a bigger chance of getting discounts on some of those expensive pieces but they're going to get less inventory overall if you go to a larger a.d in a big metropolitan area they're not going to discount stuff they're likely not going to discount stuff because they don't have to but they're going to be getting more desirable inventory overall as a store so the more money you spend with them the more opportunities you have to get stuff versus the smaller id so it's kind of a catch-22 either way you go if you're going the money route here's what you got to expect you're going to walk into an ad you're going to start talking to them they're going to get an idea they're going to let you know that if you want to get these pieces you've got to build a relationship start a relationship got to kind of work your way up the ladder and that's going to mean buying pieces they're going to offer you gold pieces they're going to offer you ladies datejust or ladies pieces in general stuffed with diamonds and other factory stones the more non-desirable stuff now this can be a good and a bad thing can be a bad thing because it you may you may get talked into buying a piece that's going to take a significant loss when you resell it on the secondary market it can be a good thing as when you go buy one gold piece you could be spending 30 40 000 and immediately getting more um more rapport than a person just buying a standard datejust for you know ten twelve thousand dollars it's all about strategy now one thing you should do is consider if any of these pieces they have available are something you may actually want to keep or wear or you know someone that wants one if you can find someone that is looking for a gold piece already you could hedge it against you know say hey if you go buy this gold piece or allow me to buy it i'll eat a small loss on it based on what secondary market value is this person gets the piece you take a small loss and then you get your name up on the list now don't think you're gonna get into the money side of this game and spend money without taking a loss over the years that i've been doing this i've lost hundreds of thousands of dollars i know many many of my clients have lost a lot of money in the early days getting these pieces you have to understand that but it's it's a long-term play it's not a i want to get in there today and buy something and not lose any money and i'm going to get a white daytona and make 10 grand it does not work like that think about if this is a piece you can keep you want to keep or you know somebody that wants it if so that's a great thing if not the second thing i i recommend you doing is kind of scanning their case seeing what's available talk to them see what they're going to offer you and then call someone like me depending on which pieces they have in there it may be something i'm willing to buy another dealer is willing to buy and you can take a very small loss even get cl you know get as close to break even as you can and keep bumping your name up the list now i'll go over a couple of them here in a minute of the pieces that are good for this scenario but like i mentioned in the earlier part of the video when you're going after these desirable pieces again start small you have a much higher likelihood of getting a date or no date sub pretty early on than you do of getting a steel daytona get in there and see what's available and take a list and then go back and do some of your research see what these pieces are bringing on the secondary market and kind of do your own homework and see which one would lose the least some of the gold pieces let me find some notes here but some of the gold pieces that actually if you can get offered these in the early days when you're starting this game they're a good piece to get because they either trade right at retail some of them maybe even trade over but at the very very worst you'll only lose 500 to a thousand dollars so some of these pieces are the rose gold day-date presidential both in the chocolate dial and the olive dial any of the oyster flex daytona's the white gold the yellow gold the rose gold it really doesn't matter the dial variation right now if you can get your hands on one of those get it that's a great piece to start with uh any rose gold daytona chocolate dial being the best but any rose gold right now is doing pretty well yacht master ii all yellow gold has a retail of about 45 000 and it's trading almost right at retail harder piece to get but platinum daytona i've found i've actually been able to find three two or three platinum daytonas and some of the smaller ads where they just don't have a market for someone wanting to buy a 75 000 watch you pick that up call me and i'll buy it the last one that i can think of off the top of my head is a rose gold sky-dweller and right now just about any dial yellow golds are doing okay but you're gonna lose a little bit again at the in the description i'll put a list of all those in order from the best to the worst picks but it gives you an idea on big pieces that have a pretty good dollar amount that you can start with where you'll take a smaller loss some of these gold pieces that you're going to spend 40 50 000 on you'll take the same loss as if you were to buy a ladies datejust 31 with a diamond dial diamond bezel or even just a datejust 31 in general so get in there meet your ads look and see what's available do some homework look the prices up on the secondary market take notes on them and just see which one you think would be the best or better yet shoot me a text i'll put my number below in the description i do this all day long and i'll help you work it the best okay guys to sum it all up if you're gonna do option one you gotta remember three things be genuine be patient and be persistent weekly check-ins just to say hi bringing your a.d coffee donuts whatever popping in just to remind them just to be a familiar face those are all good things option two it's playing it's simple you gotta spend money but be strategic call me call my business partner marco we'll help walk you through the process when you find out what pieces are available and we'll go from there now if you've done this if you've had experience with this if there's some tips that i missed or some guidance you can offer our viewers and readers below drop it in the comments uh if you like this video
