Picking Peanuts in Florida

uh oh out of gps oh goodness [Music] [Applause] high five oh she says don't film me don't film me hey guys and welcome to the channel if you haven't done already please subscribe and give this channel a big thumbs up got the whole fan on this tractor i think we need a bigger tractor what do you think maybe like a four-seater tractor would be good but yeah i got the whole crew of me this saturday morning plowing up peanuts peanuts look great dryland 06g so we'll have plenty of peanuts to pick tuesday speaking of tuesday why don't we go ahead and go there today's saturday now it's tuesday and yeah going to start picking peanuts so during peanut seasons the mornings usually start out much like this uh first somebody is working on the shaker we've already got it back in here to put new points on the shaker so we plow up say the day before the points get wore out so we got to put fresh new points whoever's running the pickers they're busy getting the picker service stuff every morning you service up your pickers freeze it all your chains blow it off check the chapters out and all that good stuff so for now though i'm gonna get new points on the shaker and let's get with it just got this done so now me now i'm going to take this take it out and always hold the chains get your universals greased which are right here you've got one two three four five six so we got six universal joints degrees okay so we got it pulled out now what i'm going to do is all the chains so yeah that's pretty much it let's hold the chains all right got them holed up now we grease the universal joists whoa perfect right there a little bit come on come on a little bit more whoa all right we got all those now we're going to head to the drive shaft that one's easy and get to that one this one's hard to time it goes so fast a little bit let me try that oh heck it's broke off now the change is broke yep darn it hey kyle how's it going i've decided i'm going to wear my gopro all day today just record non-stop all day every day now my hands are clean i can turn it off now we change your grease fitting always something always something she's broker than a joke where is it yeah i think that's it you gotta get it what is it three eighths yeah appreciate it keefy you the man the best grease fitting changer in the in the whole town okay so she is greased she is old chains look good checked over 21 point inspection complete so now it's gonna take to the field and start plowing up all right just got to the field making my first pass now i'm going to plow up until keith and jeff and kyle get here they're bringing the two of modest pickers and the nut buggy and we're going to start picking peanuts after lunch all right guys today's big day we get to pick some peanuts hit some peanuts [Music] especially on the first day of harvest that's where i keep you start already got the camera rolling your lights are still on i just want you all to be able to see me oh we can see you can't miss that big name all right you guys ain't playing with none named pig i mean what what what the world well see i was almost gonna make another through and then i saw kyle pull in and keep you pulled in like well just gonna be coming pretty soon but then we've been waiting 10 minutes on you so keep you got a good 10-minute head start what it is yeah my truck's at hudson you just drop me off there you got it oh thank you fellas for the little all right just got back from lunch gonna get the pickers rolling and start picking peanuts we've all been waiting for the main event is almost here jeff is headed to the 297s keepy's headed over to this other dry landfield that we got that i plowed about about five or six acres friday as well just testing them out so we're about to get with it across the bangers that everything goes great always nervous always a nervous feeling see there are run scenarios through your head like that did i check everything right and make everything look good you're never 100 sure when it comes to this time right here because here we are man we're pulling up right now nothing to it but to do it good a little nervous you remember how to do it man sitting there running through my head i got it just nervous you got it it's like going oh i know right well that's embarrassing somebody didn't shut the door you didn't shut the door you know that's very helpful i'm glad i caught you when i did that's how you get in the basket yep yep let's try it again peanut season is already starting off to a rough start all right take two will let the door open always look at your basket might not be able to see it on the video but it's shooting the peanuts across the basket there and you don't want to do it too hard send them across too hard if you do that you'll show your peanuts got this monitor right here and it tells you your peanut load your duck air and then your combine speed as long as it's within that green you're in good shape by 80 anywhere between 85 and 110 100 is perfect so we run about 98.99 so we're in good shape there what we always do we'll pick a little bit get out check it see how well it's doing make sure it's picking the peanuts off the vine we're not leaving a lot you got that right there but that's probably yup that's pop so a pop is a peanut that is a peanut shell but no peanut in the peanut shell now that's a good peanut so we can probably increase our overhead peep a little bit and get that off but as a whole like it's doing pretty good a lot of pop so as a whole it's doing good what's on the ground is pops well that's what we want every now and then you'll find one more that is a not a pop it's a good peanut but they're few and far between how fast was that one two one two okay so to adjust the peanut picker you've got a couple adjustments you've got your overhead teeth right here and that is how aggressive it picks so if it's not picking it you can increase that uh overhead teeth you also have well where's the other one this door don't let it hit me in the face no we don't know is it on the other one the heck item maybe it's on this one you got your concave which we never really messed with yeah there you go so we got this one completely disengaged we could probably engage that just to grunt get it picking a little bit cleaner then you've got your retention board which i believe is on the other side of the picker and that's how long they stay on the fourth cylinder so it's kind of like a fine tune if you still got some that are hanging on the vines you can adjust that yep and it's completely disengaged as well so i would engage the retention board just to grunt and engage the overhead teeth just a red smidge man you can do that with your hand gracious yeah strongest farmer in the county okay now let's go check on keepy see what he's up to he should be picking in rows here at hudson's [Music] kefi just called me and said he picked a little bit now he's stuck in the tractor and of course you can't get nobody on the phone i'm sure you're free the handle broke oh wow i ain't never had that happen before how fast is that first second gear uh second which is what 1.4 i think i don't even know pretty sure no you could probably jump her up to third i'll give you the gopro there you go sam what you like oh boy well today keeps getting better keep you went to get in the tractor and now we going over from the outside so yeah that won't [Music] [Applause] beautiful [Music] this door locked to a uh science now i didn't lock myself out twice broken yeah the mechanism broke so you can't open it with the handle from the inside you can't open it with the button from the outside if you get out of track you got to remember not to shut the door i guess you got a good anti-death yeah i don't got it figured out though i go with a piece of wire about as quick as i can i want to give a special thanks to modest for the hat and the koozie here we are kyle pulling up we're going to dump these peanuts from the basket into the dump wagon jumped in the nut puck i'm going to go grab keep he's getting pretty close to getting full kyle has taken a trailer down to the peanut mill first time pulling up to a peanut cooker this year boom not too bad not too bad a lot of peanuts it's always nerve-racking first couple times you double the semis because you've really got to get very very close just put them where you need it and you don't want to be that guy to get stuck on the semi because i've been that guy to get stuck in between two wagons when i was younger so wish me luck hopefully uh it'll go smooth as long as you keep your tires straight you'll be all right then once you get a little mark down you're good come on come on buddy so i jumped out here to show you just how high you've got to get this nut buggy before we always jump to a wagon so this is relatively new to us this is our i think third year dumping on semis and man you've got to get that thing way on up there to dump those peanuts in the semi-trailers all right go ahead and ride with dad for a little bit he's plowing up peanuts and bring him his sweet tea he forgot his sweet tea got a half sweet tea he doesn't even see me larry that got his attention thirsty we gotta find out what the problem is we can't get those back no exact quickest part right here trying to get this yep on these angled rows one way to get away with that to get like the precision plates where it all cuts off the exact same huh all right the day is winding down i think the guys were done picking peanuts a little bit that we had to pick today let's go find out well that is going to be it for today we are caught up to the shaker so we could keep picking peanuts but they're going to be a little too green
