hi i'm alex archbull and i've been buying and selling antiques since i was nine years old from basements to scrap yards i'll look just about anywhere i can to find lost antiques and collectibles and sometimes i'll go big and buy everything with my wife and kids we run an antique shop in edmonton alberta canada filled with some of the most unique items we can find i never know what's going to happen or who i'm going to meet this is our life this is our adventure and this is curiosity from home honey [Music] well good morning everyone i think yesterday went pretty well um we got the bedroom cleaned out the living room is more or less done other than the fact there's all those boxes in there i have to come up with a really good game plan today and honestly that's my biggest stress this morning is trying to find a way to get um everybody busy and working because i've got a big crew josh dakota hans zenovia paul myself i count we're all going to be there working hard to give this family their home back and um time is ticking they are good they're in a hotel right now and i have to get the interior of the house done in the next couple days because they're coming back saturday so the the big push is going to be trying to get everything out of the basement today um getting the garage somewhat organized so that we can get everything that we piled in the living room put in the garage and then friday saturday we'll start to move things over to the auction but um we are gonna plow ahead i'm headed over there a bit earlier than the rest of the crew because i want to come up with a game plan i am um i can't really recall all the things that are in the garage and i need to figure out where people are going to be and think of places where they're going to be working so they're not all crowded together it's going to be a good day a big day but the goal today is to try and get the basement emptied uh for the most part get it emptied out boxed up get a whole bunch more stuff over to charity and um separate the stuff in the living room out to the garage that would be ideal but the entire interior of the home is done today it might feel like a lofty goal but i'm confident we can get it done we did well yesterday to get the bedroom and everything else cleaned up so we're gonna just do what we gotta do get this family back in a nice clean home let's have a look in the garage well if that door opens then we'll have a little bit better luck getting to all this stuff let's see there we go i'm gonna walk around i think can see what we're dealing with i think most of the stuff in the garage here is likely somewhat sellable so when it comes to packing oh yeah there we go i may just get them to come out and start packing all this up and we'll haul it over to the auction again the the goal here is that we sell off this stuff so we can get the owners of this property bit of money back for all this stuff that they bought except for the snow tires those are for their car but all the rest of this stuff needs to go so i'll put a work crew in here packing i'll have another crew in the basement before we know it well it won't be empty today but at least be in boxes hopefully i've been busy working this morning getting a bunch of stuff out of the garage that can go to charity and i've been tunneling a hole in there so that i can kind of see what we have to deal with this is how far i've gotten so far and i'm trying to get a little bit of the sorting done before everybody else shows up which should be any minute now these are the items which i thought were kind of cool old suitcases old christmas ornaments but um you know going back to the 40s or 50s still with the original boxes there's an old military cadets hat a horn that's been engraved you know stuff that's a little bit more unique an antique kid's rocking chair there's even things that if this was a garage sale i would have bought myself like this tin pan airplane she had it priced at a dollar i would have bought that if i was here old bosch automotive sign so a few collectibles are turning up there are an awful lot of things that are going to go to charity but um as i'm digging through there's sort of surprises all throughout and i was kind of looking in this box here and saw you know there's an old sprinkler real old sprinkler and some other cast iron pieces and i noticed these i didn't pull them out yet these are uh printmakers blocks [Music] they would advertise you know a newspaper would use them or make your ballot count give him a sweepstakes majority gordon graydon okay so somebody's campaign uh these would have been uh early print blocks and there are people who buy them and collect them there's a whole box of them in here so that box will probably uh end up staying and going off to sale i'm hoping to kind of tunnel my way all the way through to the back so i can uh separate this stuff out and give them direction to haul the stuff off to charity and start packing up the items i think are gonna go to auction and the gang is starting to show up we've got josh paul's working in the garage i didn't recognize you with this long mane you like it i've never seen you with such long hair before i've never had such long hair before you feel free yeah i guess so like the wind should be blowing through it at all or lazy or lazy one of the other get a haircut uh okay you ready i'm ready okay um this is what i need help with probably first off all this stuff has to go to a charity at some point okay hanza zenovia should be here soon they are right there oh they they were waving at me like maniacs well they're here and they're without a truck so i might need to rely on you and your cool vehicle there koda is also probably coming he got vertigo and he has my other truck oh okay yeah all right well if he shows up that's fine if not we'll have enough to do for the bunch of us here we found a chair for zenovia the guys are getting paul jumping out of the way the guys are getting the truck loaded up don't drop it that was heavy uh you just chucked a giant bars in him i thought it was plastic until i was already like good thing he caught it we're digging through some of these boxes look at these old sort of girly glasses two for the show looks like there's four of them in here more pyrex and four for the show so it's probably one for the money two for the show three to get ready and four to go and then by that point she's uh unclothed and presumably inside that cup it comes from the party girl line and this guy marked it mike don't take mike's cups out of the uh office because he'll be upset that's a neat little set though so paul you're saying that this isn't just your average storage bench this isn't just your average storage bench ottoman slash ottoman this is actually when you bought a brand new vacuum back in the 50s and 60s it came in this little box so you have uh somewhere to store your vacuum and a nice little place to put your foot well that's a good idea they don't do that anymore no that's for sure dyson has a lot to learn i guess that's why there's all these separations in there so the vacuum would fit in nicely this box let's see glass jars a little diner sort of syrup dispenser these are quite old though these are bison or buffalo gloves these date back to these could be about 100 years old that's really early pioneer stuff so i will separate those out and they're still soft you guys got round one of donation done yeah round one of how many but uh probably quite a few based on the looks of things here i am working my way back working my way back to the garage uh look at all the space we have now and now they're all singing who was that neil said neil sadaka no i think so i found this bird cage stand and i found the bird cage that goes inside of it so complete antique bird cage a few little fun items popping up here like this campbell soup kids clock it's newer but it is cool uh more christmas decorations in the box 1970s las vegas pennant people do buy pennants canada canadian pennants always seem to have the mounties on them from the 50s and 60s got some old cookbooks the american family cookbook is that what the american family looks like now oh that that reminds me of the uh stove i had when we were doing the potter's house makeover it's almost the exact same stove hmm found family feud almost any board game can become a family feud if you're not careful but look there's a ouija board the mystical talking board and people right now are probably watching going don't touch it let's see uh we'll let's see uh will this auction go well oh i guess it will um and look hey it's a yogi bear go fly kite game yogi i don't know yogi can we play a game why of course boo-boo go steal a picnic basket it's the yogi bear game this is really cool i love these old 60s games i don't think people are really playing but they do collect them and the original the original magic eight ball in the box and then a slightly newer one i don't think i've ever found the original magic eight ball in its original box before that's so cool now i've seen a lot of syrup containers in this place but i've not seen one that big how much syrup are you using on your pancakes that you need a two liter it's probably for something else but it is identical to basically just a syrup bottle and have that on your table your kids would destroy their pancakes in a heartbeat sorting through the books trying to figure out what we should sell and what should go these i thought were kind of neat sizzling pan ranch cowboy sam and shorty they got this uh old model t going down the dusty road zayn gray this is kind of cool and scarlet and plain clothes it's got the the mountie on the front and then there's a book for for your every man who is it well it's jim the conqueror he's not you know he's not even james the conqueror it's jim the conqueror it's like uh dave the conquistador or or doug the uh executioner you know i guess these guys have regular sounding joe names jim the conqueror i just thought that was kind of funny anyway we're gonna get some of these books sorted and separated um making some really good progress in the garage uh josh and dakota are sorry josh and hans well dakota got a beard in a hurry there they've been uh busy they've done about three trips so far i dumped out this kitty comfort box which was full of toys and i'm going through it right now trying to see what in here is salvageable so there's a mr t there was a let's go steam engine of all things that's kind of out of place uh 1980s gi joe uh star wars original so anything that basically is a little bit better the 1950s marks is gonna uh go separately for sale and the rest muppet babies and things like this i mean some of these are older there's the pillsbury doughboy we'll separate all this stuff out real ghostbusters toys well you gotta go through and separate the good from the bad no urine specimen bottle oh hang on you know as terrible as that is somebody when you throw that up not from here there's like that joke about the uh you know how long it takes to fill out a prescription what are they trying to do hit the bottles from a distance is that another one serena city dairy pasture has milk yellow what's up with the writing on it back there sort of a glass jar of it gauze yeah definitely from uh from a lab or something or uh okay well we'll save it yeah this kind of uh lab and medicinal yeah urine sample bottle oh that's a that is a hefty sample seven ounces of urine let's maybe take that home with you this lace is not that size okay these are enamel pyrex on top oh yeah those are old lab bottles yeah interesting those right now those are good for camping yeah we could probably resell people love enamelware are you smiling at me the people at home are you why you well yeah i'm just happy to see all this stuff getting loaded up in the back of the truck this pile this is load number four i did 15 loads yesterday if you can believe it holy crap yeah i did 15 loads of stuff yesterday 15 loads of like this yeah which would probably still be about eight or nine truckloads full i was right up to the roof uh yeah we can donate those that's neat nicole's creamed honey mmm cream's honey it's new it's reusable it's mccall the jar is reusable or the honey i think both paul getting ready for all we need is some arms and legs get a name that's a long answer oh that's glad it's from austria what is going on with your hat there hans well i found it finally it's the one that synovia loves it's a beautiful sunny day and you've got santa claus going on here well you know i like to be very jolly and you know it's just one of those good things right what's inside the bin nothing and that's actually good news because we can use this for packing that's more exciting to me right now than actually finding it full of more stuff empty bins are gold with good progress happening in the garage and zanovi and paul finishing up with some of the final work we have a little stack of stuff that's going to be ready to go out the door to the auction in the meantime i've asked hans to start carrying stuff up from the basement we're gonna make a big pile outside there's the man we're gonna make a big pile outside and i'm gonna sort it through there figure that was the easiest way to clear it so he's getting the hallway cleared first of debris and after that all of this stuff my job is to go upstairs and sort it as fast as i can to figure out what can uh be sold you know the routine what's got to go and what's got to stay you're going to have calves of steel by the end of this if you don't already i think i already got the steel cab from all the work that i do yeah well good you're primed and ready to go up and down these stairs all day and uh josh and paul will come give you a hand in a minute here too hans brought this case up from downstairs i thought it looks fancy and look it's sort of like a little um uh ladies bathroom kit it might even be a salesman sample where they take this to a lady show kind of like how mary kay was sold and it's uh what charles of the ritz well that never caught on but what a great little salesman or sales ladies style suitcase here that would have had all these different pockets that's neat it's to keep the sun off my head so i don't over sweat oh really you're the life of any party there hans if that party was happening in 1955 it seems like in the flintstones they always wore shades on their heads how are things going in here guys actually this might go with one of these lamps that we've got sitting around over here it's not the right type of shade for that but it'll do you'd like to burn your house down on the holidays hey people buy that stuff it is very collectible but it's just terrifying looking the door just slammed i guess i shouldn't use that ouija board earlier i've i've summoned all the things now the door slamming ghosts yeah what all it was saying if it was a ghost that did it it's like were you raised in a barn yeah where was that cane you were showing me the scepter oh yeah the uh the indiana jones scepter that shows you the light to uh it shows you where almond raw is you put it on that one thing and then yeah the light comes through and look where it's shining down and you got your practice battle wooden battle saber i think that's your metal detector safe patches oh that's fine i had it right here here's a old barber shop barberside bottle oh yeah we should hang on to that yeah it's got the rubber bottom and everything that's cool yeah it's very cool it's an antique older than the ones that have barberside labeled oh and you found the mash and you said this man the monster mash do the mash this is like your uh military size uh you know you act up and you get forced to peel and mashed potatoes for the rest of the guys that's that's that's that's a big mash it is a big nash the window josh uh i got art yeah in my dodge corvette it's funny it's people's choice for best mopar but they put a corvette like a 63 or 64 corvette on the back yeah like what the heck he'd be like huh thanks thanks for nothing and and this one is for go-karting it's it's not actually but it would be funny if it was but this doesn't make any sense i know and but hey somebody who has a um mo mopat a copar i don't know might be interested yeah i've gone ahead and ordered food for everybody so we've all been working very hard while they're getting josh's truck loaded up i thought i'd come down and see how the basement's looking if they've been able to clear some space down here well i can see there's a carpet yep that's all cleared out making a dent there is still a bunch more stuff but oh there's a one of those old sort of morris style reclining chairs craftsman style it's a good piece as we get some of this stuff hauled up i'll dig through and we're actually doing much better than i thought we were so far we do need to get through the rest of all this today and we still we have five hours left five hours left to clear all this if we put everybody on it we should be able to uh at least get the floor space cleared up down here the priority has been getting stuff taken off to charity though because they have limited hours they're only open until five and uh considering tomorrow we're gonna have a big another big day of moving stuff getting it over the auction we don't want to be spinning our wheels trying to get stuff off to charity when we should be spending that time moving [Music] finally some cool toys oh is it buddy l it is a buddy l yep vintage buddy but it's a buddy okay it's like playing a game of junk junk jam junk junk jam actually the rest of this whole box is pretty decent although that fire truck is missing the cab off of it it's probably salvageable let's put the whole box in the in the garage press steel stuff is pretty flexible do you think there's a collectible coin in the coin bank not that there's a dime or a penny let's see penny american 1989. well it was good luck for the penny yeah paul brought this up and said it was a case full of buttons but what's more interesting about it is that it's um looks like a salesman sample smart styling and made measure clothes so it's got this great little graphic on it when it's open like that i guess it's displaying all these buttons cool little piece this box has a few colorful and cool looking egg beaters this one's neat i guess you put it right over top of the lid so it doesn't splash all over the place and found this in there look improved popular pie funnel carries away the steam and leaves the pie crust as light and flaky inside is on the surface household bazaar edmonton alberta china glass that's got to be a real old piece teens 20s maybe something like that i guess you put that right in the middle of your pie and this little smoke stack of steam comes out the center of it pretty nifty more boxes full of stuff i wonder if i can find the rest of this that's a fisher-price train on the engine you'd push a little button squeak squeak it had giraffes and things sticking out the top lead soldiers there's a big boy dukes of hazard generally lots of little pez dispensers in here another box to sort through casper the friendly ghost no that's casper tooth that's his one of his mean uncles or whatever that's from the diamond worst show ever not the mama they hit them on the dinosaurs jurassic park i went and saw that movie with my grandpa in the theater he got up halfway through he got bored like how do you get bored of jurassic park he did lisa okay i'll sort through this and see let's see if the treasure's awake nobody wanted to take home the lisa you never know you know well it's probably 1990s too that's probably an earlier piece probably on her tag uh 1990 yep it's one of the first so that's what 32 years old yeah one of the first licensed simpsons toys really cute hey alex you like cute chicks uh married are you just a little playboy bunny oh boy oh josh you're telling me that the donation place said they're full yeah well they said if we could bring the rest tomorrow okay because they're basically overwhelmed yeah we have overwhelmed a whole other store yeah and it's a huge one and it's a warehouse like the size of a grocery store yeah it's pretty big and we've overwhelmed them with stuff yeah well so we did 10 loads in here i did 15 yesterday so that's pretty intense uh that's a lot of stuff yeah uh well there is still other charities around in the neighborhood so we'll keep loading up we can't wait until tomorrow sadly so we'll just have to switch up charities right i've just called for the dump bin to get removed it is pretty darn full but i think we're at the tail end of the garbage which is perfect um i want to get it out for two reasons one it's nice to have the neighborhood looking good again but also when the family comes back i want them to be welcome to a nice house with no dumpster in the way and if i wait until tomorrow it might not happen for when they get home so really just want it to look nice and presentable and homey for when they get here that's gonna be step one getting this thing off the road i guess josh's truck there also we're loading it up with the last bit of charity um donations for today and then it's just a matter of uh i guess getting all this stuff moved out oh i'm gonna go downstairs and see how the basement's looking it's been a while since i've been down to see hans and checked on the guys down to the basement i go let's see how it looks down here wow you see the walls you actually have egress well sorry for the bars on the windows how's it going guys are those records i can walk this was impassable not that long ago but you made something impassable possible possible and there's where paul went you put the paul impossible no you put the pause impossible that's a worse thing i put the pause impossible wow look at that you can see wall english china oh you know you walk down here alex you you confuse me and look what i oh i'm the reason that you doubled up on your tape like that this is this is exactly it i haven't had to do this once yet you know the reason why you can't find the tape when it falls back on itself that was my grandfather's invention he retired off of it used to be when you let your tape down it would just be like you know easy to find and he's like no no people's time is not valuable at all oh we are making some good progress hans is a busy mover getting stuff moved out to the garage and tomorrow was the big day and this is my pet oh i call it a dragon did you tell him to go fly a kite zenovia i did because i think he might be taking you up on it it's a nice dragon you're going to be a little bit of a ben franklin out there today with you fly that thing there's some rainstorm well i just want to stay away from the power lines because that could be a little bit uh scary that's a surefire way to tell if there's electricity in the air if you fly in here [Laughter] yeah no science degree required uh okay well you guys are making some good progress here and we can actually get to the closets there are an awful lot of books there's lots of lots of very varied literature from dostoyevsky to pierre burton and beyond that's so if it's alphabetized that's only uh you know four letters deep in the alphabet there we go okay well i have called for the um i called for the dump truck to come so i'm gonna go make a mad dash out there and throw any excess garbage in the dumption while we still have it i'll check in on you guys in a bit okay sounds good here comes the truck to take away years of trash little does you know he's going to be helping to free these people i'm going to get out of the way of our good friend hans here we've got a box of records [Music] no no no i know those are heavy [Applause] oh i was a tippy load well that's it for today you took 12 heaping truckloads yeah well this is number 12. is this the three-quarter ton or top ton this is the whatever the f-350 is that's probably three-quarter ton i don't think whatever yeah three-quarter trucks i'm saying so that's probably nine or ten tons close to nine or ten tons worth of stuff yeah it's an eight foot box yeah we and we we're filling it yeah so much so that we filled up an entire thrift store to the point that they didn't have any room yeah dakota by the way said sorry that he couldn't come he just had the vertigo but he would have had another truck and we would have gotten this done a little bit quicker but i think we actually did pretty good we did really good well thank you very much we'll see you back tomorrow when i come with a rental van and we start to actually offload all of this to the auction we'll see you josh all right see ya meanwhile i'm gonna go downstairs and let zenovia know that we're calling it a day here hans is headed over with josh to offload but i think we made some really great progress today and i would say that we're almost ahead of schedule i don't want to jinx myself but we still have all of tomorrow to get the stuff moved out of the garage in the living room but we have an almost functional basement that's been cleared out we've got some empty boxes to contend with but we're using those to pack up books really the house boy i would just tell you that to be in here right now it feels so much better so much better it's you can breathe easier there's light coming in through the windows the whole house feels lighter as a result of this work and there's anovia who's been busy packing down here and we're almost at the walls but tomorrow i guess what we'll do is we'll get the truck loaded up and while they're after the trucks loaded we'll come back down and pack more books and get these out the door but we're going to call it a night zenovia oh really i don't know if i can walk out of here oh i'll come help you i'll clear a path for you we started off with a big task ahead of us and frankly i was feeling a little bit defeated because um well dakota wasn't able to make it so we were down a person and there was just so much to do but by the end of today we were able to get the garage sorted and organized we were able to get the basement i'd say 80 percent cleaned out other than some remaining books and records and other knickknacks and we took 12 3 4 ton loads the 12 heaping josh truckloads over to charity today um making the total of trips to charity i think we've done i did 15 yesterday and a couple the day before so it is really starting to pile up with the uh the charities shelves will be well stocked as a result of us cleaning out this house plus we've got an entire garage and a living room that are packed full of potential collectibles and items that we'll sell when we do the auction we'll do an update after and let you know how we did and how the homeowners did but we're closing the gap and my four-day target which seemed very lofty at first is now seeming like a reality we'll see after tomorrow when the move out starts to happen and that's when the real transformation of the house will take place so stay tuned for that episode as we get the living room and dining room boxes cleared out with the garage cleaned out and really just start to make a massive dent in the house and also we start to see the house transform back into a home so thanks for watching guys we'll see you all soon and don't forget to subscribe and stay tuned for next episode bye for now [Music] you
