[Music] hey folks hey folks we are at the end of a very long dirt road in the mountains of vermont standing at the base of an old foundation from an old home we know quite a bit about the people who used to live here they were farmers somebody in the area wrote a book about the happenings in the area supposedly a professor from the local college did some mel detecting in this area we don't know if though if he ever came here yeah we're gonna find out though hopefully we find a few exciting things today and uh i think later on we're gonna travel with the landowner to meet some of his friends yeah which should be interesting well we know bigfoot's been here so he's everywhere look at that let's get our metal detectors out and uh see what we can find in the ground while also looking for big uh well it's been approximately 30 seconds what was your first target over there chris one of those it appears to be part of a hand tool of some kind and my first target the infamous axe head it's actually in pretty good shape we could re-hang that one nice all right off to a good start well it's been another few minutes would you get there chris double that's crazy it is a little bit broken but i i'm gonna still keep it that's my first one so that's awesome double bitted axe head yes all right well i don't know what it is but it's uh golden what the heck is that oh it's like a finial it's a it's an acorn finial nice plated in silver it looks like i wonder what that was a finial on there's a place for a pin there a curtain rod or probably a curtain rod right that's pretty cool a little acorn i don't think i've ever seen one like that but it makes sense tons of oak trees in this area nice man that's a first pretty good plating on there too not flaking at all unexpected cool well it's been a i don't know what what time is it about an hour and a half and chris has got quite the pile of iron going here what you got here chris tell us all about it um you got a sickle blade i always get corrected it's a psy horseshoe lead pipe nice lead pipe sheet ironed yeah this is my only two side blade i don't want to brag but uh it's quite a bit longer than yours but here's the foundation it's been a little bit slow i think really the only non-ferrous stuff you've already seen i've already shown and chris got a spoon and a suspender clasp they're up here too so we're going to keep at it maybe we'll move locations a little bit later [Music] is it a cigarette tin it's a tin of some kind there was something uh tobacco uh so this is something that i i think i've only ever found one of some one other time it's a shotgun show and we were expecting to kind of find shell casings because there is a like a sportsman's camp within view right up the hill here but this is an old full brass shotgun shell looks like probably 12 gauge and it's squashed for whatever that's worth that's cool like i said i've only ever found one and usually there they were paper and you just find the head stamps but that's a full brass very cool uh well i just got a piece of who knows what it almost reminds me of like a sewing machine or something might be a stove but there's text on this side fred terrance something works fred terence well whoever fred is maybe we'll be able to research him and figure out what this piece of equipment was looks like it's probably a stove but do you know any fred terrance's chris um no i don't know what it is but anything with a name on it it's worth something to me that's cool well the temperature is definitely dropping you got a good signal you tell what branded this past just by the numbers on my screen supposedly right up this road the little family cemetery we'll see if these folks are in here there's a little bit of work done to it looks nice there's a little pick a fence and everything nice this stone here is uh is the family name of the folks uh the house we were just in so i'm not gonna show it people always get upset when i don't show names on gravestones but it'd be very easy to figure out this private property and we don't want trespassers so 1903. yeah fortunately i think that happened often back then cool little family some yes these are all the same last name which is the home that we're metal detecting currently as well as two other sellers that are on this road which are on different different properties now um it all got broken up it would have been one big property back then but all new owners so we're only have we only have permission to one of them today which i think was the patriarch so far though uh poor farmers yeah which we expected coming in and also may have been metal detected at one point as well yeah but we're having fun yeah not often do we get to metal detect with no snow in the middle of december yeah temperature is dropping though yes it's very cold right now all right can't see my breath yet we're good the breath is humidity it's not necessarily temperature you know what shut your smart mouth holy mackerel look at that spoon i have never seen one like that unfortunately i don't i don't think that's my break but yeah that's beautiful i have to clean it off more and see if there is anything it's like a uh super ornate like salt spoon or something caviar up here in the uh the farmer's house well yeah it's plated it's if it was solid silver you know it'd be something but that's really cool good job chris something all right well i just found kind of a common find at you know old farm sites like this this is what is called a curry comb it would have had a handle down here but this is for brushing the horses or other livestock i suppose curry comb nice all right well i apologize for not getting um you know any digging action because uh all of the targets here have sounded great and for the vast majority of them they've been sheet metal but this hole has been a weird one because i started digging it and i got a little piece of glass which obviously was not the target but then i found a piece of harmonica reed i suck my pin pointer back down in there and there was still more target so i was like oh it's more of the harmonica reed but then this popped out that appears to be a pendant of some kind whoa it's starting to fall apart let's look here all right so it looks like there's two of these which sandwiched whatever this was hmm i really want to think that there was like these were painted or you know they had some color so i'm not sure i definitely think it's a pendant though a little necklace could have been a picture i was thinking picture but i think that you know it would be pretty obstructed behind the design here so i'm wondering if these were just painted or enameled or something but that's cool find of the day so far i'm not going to tell you until later i'm going to keep you in suspense it's gold chris solid gold no that's cool maybe if we get this cleaned up there'll be something on here but i kind of doubt it they're so misshapen it's you know it's kind of weird it could be i guess interesting anyway chris said show me yours and i'll show you okay you first nice it doesn't have the clouds no they never do but oh my god that is nice that's a wagon bell yep oh my god [Music] sounds good not a crack in it huh nope that's the find of the day so far it came in two pieces it would have been sandwiched oh my god that's so delicate right these things were between it and uh there might be a something on there i don't know it's hard to tell pretty cool eh you're doing all right you win you win with the bell [Music] what happened chris right in yeah be careful when you walk around here because there's all kind of little stubs yeah i see that dangerous place to fall down [Music] chris is going to metal detector on this glacial erratic for all the gold coins the kids dropped when they were playing on it all right okay all right yeah it sounds a little irony right here little buddy huh oh my gosh what chris [Music] hey little buddy i feel like a disney princess i like the peaceful quietness here [Music] [Applause] hey guys [Music] oh my god normally they just eat it here yeah but see their winter pantry yeah storing it up although this guy is eating it i did feed two of the kids last year by hand and that was fine i'm not gonna do it anymore i like my fingers where they are i'll take this thank you magical yeah it's a pretty special place you got here yeah i know i'm i count my blessings i do appreciate um people being able to come up here and see them because trust me before this i would drive a few miles before they moved here where i knew some beavers where i would drive a few miles just to go see him and if i could see him at you know 200 feet away i would be happy right yeah so i know for people that aren't used to it that you can see them from a few feet away special and i respect people to enjoy the natural world see now you'll see him get two or three pieces and he'll take those back up to the winner's pointer i figured by cutting them up i'm making them work a little bit take that big one good guys [Music] all right folks well it was a very very short day because we had so long to drive to get here and we have to get home at a certain time so we only metal detected for three or four hours and we visited with the chickadees and the beavers and the nut hatches was very awesome i happily put down the metal detector to do that stuff but we had a pretty good day yeah not bad considering how long we had to metal detect and given that this was the home of a poor farming family for how like uh quiet kind of the area was we did find some good finds right everything that we did dig out of the ground generally was something kind of interesting so we've got it all laid out here let's take a look all right well here are all the treasures uh after a very very short day but we started the day with two axe heads we each got a couple or a few horseshoes we only dragged one of them out of there my curry comb over here on the side i got one iron knife fragment but chris actually got two brass spoons the finds of the day i don't know the bill is pretty nice yeah chris found this well it looks like it's just fence wire but it definitely seems like it was you know put in a very particular shape maybe they hung their coats on it this is i don't know maybe part of a stove or something yeah it's interesting you know more iron stuff a hinge it was kind of interesting because there were some square nails in the ground but a lot of this type of thing had round nails so they were here well into the 1900s this probably went to a hand tool and then out front here uh really my only non-ferrous targets today um melted harmonica reed and the little pendant you know the stuff that was inside of it i'm hopefully there's like some paint on there or something i'm not really sure maybe it was reflective hard to say it's pretty interesting anyways and for my first metal detecting i told brad if i find a nail i'd be happy my first hole i dug i found a name all right folks well thanks again for watching and thanks to the landowner for inviting us here today to do this it is uh as we have mentioned probably a couple times today it's the middle of december uh which means this is probably going to be the last time this year that we can get out here and do this but it has been a very mild winter in vermont thus far so hopefully the snow holds off enough we can actually get out to the woods early 2021. yes i'm optimistic i'm supposed to get a blizzard on wednesday yeah but it looks like snow's coming it's coming see you soon oh you
