let's see if we can get this beast running today see if we can fit this in there let's see if this will even go in looks like it's gonna work it's kind of surprising actually to be honest i didn't think this was gonna work but here we are playing with the dogs this starter is out of a series 60. d deck 3 or whatever so like a 90 98 something like that and it's a complete guess if this is actually going to work the tooth count looks the same but like if obviously the design is a lot different but yeah i'll get these bolts tightened up and we'll write some lines all right so before i use these dinky ends not that desirable i'm going to a proper connection with solder i would usually crimp and solder like i have these which i pre-made um but i don't have the means to crimp so i am just going to solder them which is acceptable in my book anyway so i just cut it off i'm going to do a cut of the insulation with this old wire just i don't know how old but it's old enough that it's stubborn there's some corrosion in there this is not ideal i might take my grinder here and see if i can clean [Music] all right that's a bit better another question is going to be yeah i've kind of frayed the edges so much that these connections are quite small that's all i got so we're just gonna trim some of the fat as you could say i like to wear gloves most of the time which you'll see more and more i don't know i just like it i don't like my hands getting all messed up with this this kind of stuff in particular so we'll take a good chunk of i understand this is going to maybe reduce the amperage of this wire but i'll replace it this is the original wire if i really want i can replace it in the future all right that's gonna work so now uh we'll play with some fire and see if i can crop this of course maybe it'll go like that there we go that'll work my torch and now we just gotta eat it preferably you want the flame going the opposite way as so it doesn't wreck the insulation just getting some solder started here oh a little windy today and it's not the warmest either come on it's easy to think that you're getting a good solder joint when you see solder pooling up but you have to give it more time for the wire to actually get hot and then you'll see it'll just suck it in all right that's enough and we'll let that cool usually i would use smaller connections like this one but i wasn't anticipating this as i took some stuff from my shop that's kind of what you'd want but this will work too on the battery um i think that's it i've ran the other one already it's tied off um i will run another ground to the body if it does run so the gauges and everything work um but for now i just want to see if this thing's even worth getting running if i heard there's some stuck valves and whatnot so we'll go over that shortly all right i've got this uh batteries hooked up i got one battery on hopefully it's got enough juice i just want to see if it'll crank i've got this little hand starter where you can just bypass i don't have a key right now so we're just gonna hook up uh my little starting piece here you ready i got power it's red seems to be working um now the story on this unit was it ran a sawmill for a guy a local guy um he would run it every fall he fired it up once uh to start the season he said it ran away so it went full fuel uh i think the rock was stuck personally he said he was able to shut it off so that's why i'm thinking it was the rock um so that's what happened it never ran since it's been 30 years the oil level's good coolant i haven't even checked whatever it runs then we'll check it um a buddy of mine went out he looked at it thought it turned over fast uh thought there was a sticking valve saw some rust in the valve cover and left at that and uh so i picked it up and now i'm gonna figure out what's wrong so we know it cranks now it cranks all right the starter seems to work um and now let's get the hood off in the valve cover and check that rack out a charger on it see if that made any difference fish let's let the letter charge up for an hour or two another battery see what happens shitty batteries that's it let's see what it does i think this is off and i don't know what's yeah all right let's see what it does i think this is the rock oh hey dirt flying out oh it kicked in the cylinders yeah these are run pretty good there's some oil [Music] wow awesome still crap coming out of the muffler [Music] nice oil pressure next i'll be driving all right so it's a couple hours later after we fired it up um i noticed that the the throttle wasn't working i have my um my pliers here on the rack and i um i noticed that when you try to go back to throt just to idle it it would slowly start to rev up again which is what i think it was the reason why this got parked in the first place um my fear was the uh the um uh governor spring was seized and sure enough it was this cavity was absolutely disgusting um you can see here i'll actuate the rack you can see there so that's shut fuel shut off and that's what the other lever is here it works on this little uh little piece there and shuts it off even just a little farther instead of like idle here and then shut off is there um so i took it apart here is that little shut off there you can see it's just a cam this is the back of the governor this is the big bad part governor spring this is all seized that there's a piston in here that moves up and down completely seized uh so it was it was seized at full throttle so that's exactly what the problem was from the start and that's what i figured it was so i thought i would uh turn the camera on here while my hands were somewhat clean because this was disgusting i'll put a picture up right now of all the that came out of just this piece so yeah i'm going to put it all back together i'm going to spray some lube on these rollers uh just some oil and uh we'll fire it back up and see if it'll work with the throttle all right let's see if it'll do something [Music] [Laughter] [Music] wow maybe it's out of fuel don't turn on my lawn mister i want to see okay nice and easy [Music] [Applause] [Music] that's it take it for a little turn it only turns left can you guess where i came from i was able to turn a little bit by jumping the clutch lever and keeping the right clutch in so i know the clutches work on the right side but the brake doesn't work so that's kind of concerning that might be a lot of work but anyway that's that for today it runs i'll put that intake on before i shut her down but still needs lots of work there'll be more of these videos to come so anyway two to lose
