of love and good works and let us not neglect our meeting together as some people do but encourage one another especially now that the day of his return is drawing near come on let's pray in the name of jesus we thank you god for this opportunity that you've blessed us that you've afforded us to have the bible tells us that they that worship must worship you in spirit and in truth and we come oh god to be able to lift up your name to bless you because you have blessed us we thank you for another day's journey and we pray for all of our friends and our family members who are worshiping with us virtually and we ask oh god that through the preaching of your word through the singing of songs through the praying of prayers through the fellowship of saints coming together virtually that you would tabernacle with us that you would drop down in our worship experience and that you would explode on our screens in such a way lord that the power and the fervency of your word that the power of the holy ghost that the anointing will show up and show out in such a way lord that when it's been articulated when it's been said and done we'll be able to say that we've been in the presence of the my redeemer use me singularly to your glory to your honor and to your majesty that you will get the that you will get all of the glory that you will get all of the honor and all the praise out of what is done here on this day bless every worshiper that's watching touch them right where they are and allow the power of your word to transform to make a difference in their life that you oh god would be exalted lifted up honored and adored it's in the my as in the mighty and the marvelous and the matchless name of jesus christ our lord we do humbly pray and reclaim the victory for the people of god amen and amen god bless you amen take your bibles that we might look and live together take your bibles that we might look and live together right here in the gospel according to saint luke saint luke chapter 18 chapter 18 saint luke chapter 18 beginning at the very outset verse number one that's saint luke chapter 18 beginning in verse number 1. and you find these words recorded i'm reading from the new living translation of god's holy word and you'll find these words recorded in your hearing it says one day jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up there was a judge in a certain city he said who neither feared god nor cared about the people a widow of that city came to him repeatedly saying give me justice in this dispute with my enemy the judge ignored her for a while but finally he said to himself i don't fear god or care about people but this woman is driving me crazy i'm going to see that she gets justice because she is wearing me out with her constant requests amen praise the lord praise the lord i won't preach with the dynamic aid and the diligent assistance to include the divine anointing of the holy spirit i want to put a tag on this text i want to preach with this topic in mind i want to preach from the subject entitled i'm in it to win it i'm in it to win it grace mercy and peace be unto you my father's children we greet you in jesus joy amen my brothers and sisters beloved of god many of us have encountered life's trials tribulations struggles situations circumstances challenges even to include complications whereas we had gotten fed up to the point where we were at our wits in or some might call it we were at a tipping point to the point that we were about to explode a throw in the towel because it seemed as if it was too unbearable to handle but something spoke to you or something within you held you together and your composure and character still were intact and god got the glory out of the situation and you were stronger for keeping your peace in the midst of it all ellie campbell wrote these words to a hymn that we sing in the church and he says preachers and teachers would make their appeal fighting their soldiers on the great battlefields went to their pleadings my poor heart did yield all i can say there is something within something within me that holdeth the reins something within me that banishes pain something within me i cannot explain all that i know there is something within and i believe i'm talking to some people uh this morning or if it's afternoon whatever time you're watching this i believe i'm talking to some folk that that have something within them that even though when you wanted to just give up something kept you it held you together and and because it kept you because it it allowed you to stay the course uh you decided you made it uh if you will your your your constitution you made it uh your decision you made it a determining factor that that you were in it to win it uh that you were not going to give up you you were going to be victorious and you were not going to allow the stresses and the challenges of life to weigh you down and that you were going to look towards the heels from whence cometh your help and know that your help came from the lord and and because i know i'm talking to somebody i know that the lord has placed me if you will in your living room or place me if you will at your dining room table or your kitchen table i know that wherever you may be that that you're in it to win it that that everything that's going on in the midst of uh racial uh injustice in the midst of a patent in the midst of yes a presidential election i know that with all that we're dealing with it and with with unemployment on the rise and with with people getting kicked out of homes and stuff i i know that you're in it to win it and you're not going to allow your circumstance to get the best of you because you got someone in christ jesus who's greater than your circumstance and when i when i read this text i been preaching preaching preaching for 25 years pastoring now 23 years and when i looked at this text here when i looked at this narrative when i when i read this pericope that dr luke has penned and and i read that it was a parable it's yes yes a parable told by jesus yes it's an earthly story with a with a heavenly connotation and and when i read this thing this minister to me it it gripped me it it it it caught me to the point that it said preach me past the squirrel like i i've never preached this text but when i when i read it it it just leaped out at me and it said preach me because there's something that you need to discuss with the people of god something that you need to encourage the people of god with and in this parable we see jesus teaching his disciples that that men and women ought to always pray and not lose heart he talk he's teaching them to always pray and i believe because of who i'm preaching to i believe i got some praying folk that i'm preaching to i believe in the midst of what we have been dealing with for the last five to six months i know we got some some prayer warriors that i'm preaching to see in luke chapter 11 beginning uh if you will at verse one jesus had been uh teaching his disciples because they wanted to know how to pray and and he taught them what we refer to as the lord's prayer and he picks up in verse two and he said to them uh when you pray this is how you should pray we call it the lord's prayer but but this is what we consider to be the disciples prayer he told them he said say these words our father which art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give give us give us give us this day for our daily bread and forgive us of our sins and and forgive us of our debts as we forgive those who are indebted to us and and lead us glory to god lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom the power and the glory forever amen this is what jesus had taught them in luke 11. he gave them the disciples prayer told them this is this is a formula for you that you can use when you pray but but jesus comes around and he gives us this parable in luke 18 and he tells them men should always women as well always pray and and walter bruggeman in his book called interrupting silence god's command to speak out and this is what brugerman asserts he says that prayer is putting oneself in an acknowledged state of dependence that relies on the gifts of god for life in the world see jesus is giving them instructions in this parable on asking and and karl barth a theologian karbolf states that prayer is indeed simply asking brugerman suggests that that this parable exhibits the relentlessness of refusing silence which is the unwavering resolve to continue to speak and to ask the inference is that the very act of prayer is a way to remain courageous how many of you know that when you pray you have courage praise the lord he says that the inference is is that the very act of prayer is a way to remain courageous it's a way to resist resignation that will result in having a losing heart the antidote to such defeat is the act of prayer so prayer is an instrumental purpose in this introduction jesus does not assure the disciples that prayers are answered but only that the act of prayer is itself an act of resistance against discouragement and defeat i guess i what i need to do is is put it in layman's term because you know when you are down to your last dime when your back is against the wall when you're when your family and friends have given up on you and when your friendships have been fractured and nobody wants to deal with you you can turn to prayer which is an act of resistance against the discouragement of defeat and what you should understand is that with everything that you deal with prayer will strengthen you prayer will encourage you prayer will prop you up on every leaning side prayer that which you do should cause you to be in connection with the divine and the divine supplies all of your needs according to his riches in glory preach pastor spurlock i'm doing the very best that i can but here it is three things that i want to point out and i'm gonna get out of your way the first thing i want to point out when it comes to i'm in it to win it what you need to understand is that the text teaches us is that the text teaches us my brothers and sisters that one there was a request it's in verse three it's in verse three of chapter 18. it teaches a request slap five with your neighbor at home or type it in the comments section and say request request request see the bible says in verse three a widow of that city came repeatedly saying give me justice in this dispute with my enemy see this widow who goes to a judge what she does is it is a request but it is a demanded request whereas this widow breaks out of this patriarchal society where widows are sure to be victimized because they have no one particularly of the male persuasion who would advocate on their behalf so what she does is she breaks the silence of conformity the bible declares that we should pray without ceasing and paul in his letter to the church at philippi this is what he writes to the church at philippi in chapter four with verses six and seven paul tells us he says be anxious for nothing but everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to god and the peace of god which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through christ jesus oh my brothers and sisters what what i need you to understand is that here this text teaches us that we should always always go to god in prayer it starts off in verses one and two it says we should always pray men should always pray and not lose heart even though you might have suffered a defeat even though you might be at the back of the line still pray because in the midst of what it is that you're dealing with let your requests be made known unto god don't be anxious because your time is coming don't be anxious don't try to jump the line god has a time table for when your prayer is gonna be answered so don't be anxious but in everything by prayer and supplication go ahead and give god some thanksgiving because somebody who might be ahead of you who's getting their breakthrough or their blessing go ahead and celebrate with them because yours is on the way so go ahead and give thanks for what god is doing in somebody else's life but let your requests be made known unto god and guess what he's going to give you shalom he's going to give you peace can i get a witness that will surpass all understanding and he's going to guard your heart and your mind therefore you don't have to focus on what somebody else is getting blessed with because he's gonna make it so that you can be content with what it is that you're dealing with because when your blessing when your breakthrough comes around the corner oh my brother oh my sister you will see that your request has been honored because god is a prayer hearing god and i believe i got somebody that i can be able to touch right now through the preaching of god's holy word that can be able to testify with me right now to say i know what it is to have an answer prayer because i've had moments when i've been up at midnight and couldn't sleep my body was wrapped with pain but the lord stopped by and he touched my body allowed me to be able to sleep like a baby during the midnight hour when i called on the name of jesus it was at the name of jesus hallelujah praise the lord that the lord stretched out his hand and he healed you i believe somebody can be able to testify that when you were yes out there working trying to make ends meet and yet that single parent that single mother that single father and you didn't know how you were going to make it but the lord blessed you and to include the two-parent household when yeah you had more month than money but but the lord yes stretched your resources to show you that he's greater than any problem that you have to deal with but to call on the name of the lord come on and help me celebrate because the bible lets us know that god is a prayer answering god so we see the request we see the request but not only do we see the requests the text teaches us secondly beloved of god that when it comes to being in it to win it one you need to understand that you need to make the request because god wants you to be able to come to him he wants to know what's on your mind and sometimes we have a tendency to want to operate within the scheme and the scope of our own abilities and try to do things on our own that's why that proverbial writer solomon wrote in proverbs 3 verses 5 and says he said trust in the lord with all thine heart and lean not to your own understanding but in all thy ways acknowledge him and the lord shall and will direct your path so stop trying to do it on your own and relinquish it to the lord but text teaches us one there was a request but two i want to point out that text teaches us that there was a refusal can i get a witness look look it's in verse number four verse number four teaches us about the refusal the word says that the judge ignored her for a while but finally he said i don't fear god or care about people my lord and my god this is what the judge said he said he does not care the judge was unresponsive to her request he didn't have time for her claim as a matter of fact the bible says that the judge put the egg on the widow he ignored her didn't want to have anything to do with her he then insinuated that he can do what literally he wants to do because it is his courtroom and so many words he he's operating in authoritarianism can i get a witness a strong man and he basically says i'm not dealing with you he he was operating in in this superiority complex as if she was insignificant or uh or inferior and he refused to want to have anything to do with him and just look at what's going on look at the text the text says in verse number four it says the judge ignored her for a while but he finally said to himself i don't fear god or care about people my lord and my god look at what's going on look at what's going on in our society we got an attorney general right now who doesn't even want to enforce the laws that's on the books we see where people particularly people who are brown and black who have been if you will the victims of police brutality we have people that that are particularly in leadership in our country who's just like this judge who's ignoring everything that's going on and particularly we have people who are in leadership who don't fear god because they're all concerned and consumed about the ability to acquire more money and power than having a relationship with god and what i'm here to tell you my brothers and sisters their refusal is an opportunity for god to show up and show out jesus is teaching us within the midst of this parable that even though people refuse people operate in a superiority complex and thinking that people of different pigmentations can i get a witness maybe inferior i want you to know that you are the righteousness of god you are fearfully and wonderfully made and created in his image and when god made you he threw away the mold you are a masterpiece you are the apple of his eye so even though some folk might refuse you i need you to understand that god hears and he answers prayer god is looking out for you i understand it might not be what you want right now in terms of the answer that you want to receive but you just hang on in there because jesus is teaching us he's teaching us that we should always pray and don't lose heart yes we see that many have been yes victimized and being victimized we've become a hashtag society there's hashtag after hashtag between black men and black women who have been victims of senseless foolishness because of the fact that people don't care about the people of god but i want you to know my brothers and sisters whereas the judge refused the text teaches us that there was a refusal from the judge there was a request from the widow but then the text also teaches us thirdly and lastly that there was a relenting or a release because the widow refused see the the judge refused but the widow she refused to not accept what he was putting out glory to god y'all didn't get that it's in verse five look look look verse five it says but this woman is driving me crazy these are the words of the judge he says this woman is driving me crazy i'm going to see that she gets justice because she is wearing me out with her constant request if y'all don't get anything out of this i want you to know men's and women should always pray and the text shows us that god wants you to wear him out glory to god i wish i had a praying church that's watching me right now i'm telling you you need to wear god out god wants you to wear him out yes the judge is literally if you will that which is almost symbolic of what the lord wants out of you he wants you to wear him down he wants you to use scripture to remind him that he is open to doing what his word says that he will do in your life the bible tells us that his word shall not return unto you void praise the lord somebody and here this woman she refused help me holy ghost to let go of what that judge was throwing out she refused to allow him to give yes the unfavorable yes the unfavorable decisions that he had been putting out so therefore she says i'm not accepting what you're putting out i understand that you don't fear god i understand that you don't care about people but you gonna listen to me brother judge and this woman she was persistent and she yes she kept hounding him she yes stayed on him and i'm telling you jesus lets us know my brothers and sisters yes that when it comes down to it you got to stick to it you just because it didn't change because you prayed your first prayer doesn't mean that you give up can i get that again can i can i ever hit the repeat button on that again just because your situation didn't change the first time you prayed don't mean that you give up the bible says men should always pray and not lose heart because the bible tells us that this woman experienced a breakthrough she wore that judge down and i'm telling you y'all better use the word of god when you pray and wear him out and god's gonna allow his word to be able to if you will to to to manifest in the decision-making process when he gets ready to open up the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing i wish i had a praying church this woman experienced a breakthrough and i believe somebody out there is experiencing what i believe is a breakthrough that's on your horizon stay in there and don't give up tell somebody it's a neighbor i'm in it to win it i know that it might not look like i'm winning now but tell somebody my winning season is on the way i've had defeats i've had failures i've had some frustrations yes my back was against the wall but guess what my season for winning is on the horizon so i'm going to go ahead and celebrate and give god some glory may the lord god bless each and every one of you real good and i'll see you again on next week but can i tell you my brother and my sister is there anybody out here who knows that your season for winning is on the way tell somebody say neighbor i'm in it to win it i'm not going to be defeated the bible tells me can i get a witness in the building that no weapon formed against me shall prosper and every tongue that riseth up against me shall be condemned can i get a witness come on and help me celebrate tell somebody hug somebody say god's getting ready to release a dub in your life can i get a witness throw up three fingers three fingers stand for a w your winning season is on the way you've had moments of despair you've had moments of defeat you've had elves can i get a witness you've had an l on your job you've had an l in your relationships can i get a witness you've had an l when it comes to your schooling but can i tell you god can turn your l into a w can i get somebody to help me celebrate come on help me celebrate church say i'm in it to win it i refuse to give up on god because god didn't give up on me so oak grove and friends of oak grove as the text started off men and women should always pray and not lose heart even though you've suffered even though you've cried tears even though you've had some painful nights even though you haven't slept a week just hang on in there cause your winning season is on the way can i tell somebody it's all right to stay in the race because i found out a long time ago i found out from a little short black woman in petersburg virginia my grandmother alma spurlock batshit she showed me what it was to win she showed me that she'd always need to pray and can i tell somebody don't give up stay in there cause i heard somebody say push push tell somebody push push and watch god release watch god release the blessings and pour them out from the window of heaven push pray until something happens the problem is we got folk that don't know how to stay in the race the problem is too many of us give up because we want it to happen right away but god is not your cosmic bellhop stop going to him because you want a blessing go to him because he's the best thing that could ever happen to you now go ahead and celebrate and bless his name can i get a witness tell somebody say he's the best thing that ever happened to me and now as the old folk used to say i'm gonna say father i stretch my hand to thee with no other help i know if thou were to withdraw thyself from me whether shall i go i'm gonna stay in there i'ma hang in there with you god because i know you can turn it around can i get a witness every time i see you keep making away out of no way can i get a witness when the money is funny i turn to the left when the friendships are not functioning like they are to i turn to the left can i get a witness when the folk on my job start acting up i keep on turning when the people in the community act like they better than you i turn to you because every time i turn around you keep on you keep on you keep on making the way won't he do it won't he won't he do it say yeah i'm in it to win it hallelujah let's pray father in the name of jesus we thank you god for this preaching privilege for this opportunity to be able to declare your unsearchable riches thank you lord for reminding us that even though men who don't fear you and don't care about your people we have a mechanism called prayer that we can turn to and watch you do the impossible just the other day our president's namesake had the mitigated gulf in the audacity to be in north carolina and said that our president will protect god the truth of the matter is god you don't need us to protect you truth is you protect us but we stand up for you because there's none like you in all the earth look at the twisted theology that's being perpetuated that's being pushed because people who are not connected to you are willing to say and do anything just to remain in power but god we're praying right now coming against the spirit of supremacy and suppression and we pray oh god for the w the win we pray for the v the victory that you will gain that your people will be able to stand and declare that there's none like you in all the earth have your way i pray also right now god for that man that woman that boy or that girl who might not know you in the pardon of their sin and they need a church home and if it is oak grove the place where the preachment that has just commenced took place that they want to be a part of we extend to them this invitation if not oak grove but you still need a church home reach out to us and we'll send you to the church of your choice we just need them to be connected to the christ who handles all of our circumstances and challenges and gives us w's despite the fact that we've had some elves we love you god because ultimately that you first loved us it's in your name that we pray we count claim and consider all these things done and the mighty and the marvelous and the matchless the miraculous and the magnificent name of jesus christ our lord we do humbly pray might the people of god say amen and amen and amen again god bless you my brother my sister thank you for being a part of our worship experience on today we'll see you again on next week we love you to life be blessed peace church family can you just lift your hands wherever you are if you're in your kitchen in your living room stop what you're doing and just begin to focus on our god this morning we're celebrating simply the fact that he is an he's awesome let's go my god is awesome he can move mountains keep me in the valley hide me from the rain my god is awesome heals me when i'm broken strength where i've been weakened forever keep me
