[Music] really happy with the way this turned out first night in the teepee this is a big project deserve to have a good dinner after all of this work hi i'm greg evans and this is ovens rocky mountain bushcraft here we go welcome to part two of the tp build i've got some people coming to give me a hand hopefully they show up let's try to get this tp finished so i can spend a night cook my steak and lobster this sock canvas cover weighs about 80 pounds heavy so we have to lift it up to the top on the lifting pole i i think it's a two or three-man job i hope my uh helpers are gonna show up they might have forgotten the roads to get here i don't know hard to get it out i think i'll just tear the bag there we go okay so we're supposed to spread this out attach it to our lifting pole get it up and then wrap it around we'll slide it that way i bet you could clean a mousse with the amber knife and not even have to sharpen it razor sharp ready to go now i just got to wait for my helpers to get this up they don't show up i'll try to come up with some unique method of doing it myself i like a challenge anyway right so what my idea is anyways is to throw a rope over the top try to pull it with a truck tie the bottom to a tree over here so the bottom doesn't slide with it we'll see if it will work i'm hoping because no helpers today actually maybe i can just tie it tie the bottom between these two poles i'll try that first let's tie the rock onto the long rope here and i'll try to get it over it might take a few attempts i don't know look open it up on the truck suppose now the rock was stuck [Music] okay i got it off oh might take a few attempts [Music] boy harder to get older than i thought the rocks they keep falling off and i think what i'm going to do is put a couple of rocks in the sock and then tie that and then i can kind of sling it try that one [Music] there okay i can work with that i think i'll try to be careful and do it slow in case the truck starts pulling the whole teepee over or something [Music] well that's not working [Music] well might work well it's working but uh i ran out of room with the truck maybe in four-wheel drive if i can just get a bit further i might have her okay i jammed uh one of the shorter poles i had that i didn't use under it hopefully it'll hold and i can drive the truck closer and reattach again but the other problem is going to be when it gets near the top it's going to want to hook on the other poles up there get to that when i get to that i guess so that's as high as i can go now i got to figure out how to get that top around these other poles that it wants to jam on uh to the spot where it's supposed to go i don't know if i can uh push it with this pole i'll figure something out i'm getting there i mean it's standing upright at least well it looks like i got to uh a lot of tension on that i think i gotta pull the back out to get past those look okay well it can't fall because [Music] we got it tied top that's hard to even maneuver well it's looking good now this has got to come this way now isn't supposed to go in there you're heavy with that canvas on there the canvas weighs 85 pounds yeah man you might be wondering well how am i gonna get the rope off the top of the uh thing there i'm just gonna take my knife i got this other long pole we'll put it in the end and then i'll just cut it off with that make sure it's in good just make sure when you're working overhead the knife doesn't come out there we go so that was quite the struggle to get that pole in place the lifting pole with the canvas on it can you imagine if i had to redo it say i had it inside out or something but no i've got it the right way pretty positive for that so in actuality it is inside out i don't think it's the end of the world because my pole is on the outside and i think it should be the other way around i think i can twist my pole take this side around the other side and that side this way and i then it'll be right i think i just put it up um backwards you know what i'm saying so i just got to switch sides and then turn the pole i think that's all i got to do okay that's how it's supposed to go these aren't too hard to move [Applause] some of them don't want to move well i mean i think that's good enough i'm just kidding what happened is i had it wrapped around a big gust of wind just folded it right to the back again i didn't get that on video i wasn't videoing but uh so now i got it tight here so the wind doesn't take it away on me i'm gonna stake the back side and then just move around the bottom get it where it's supposed to be like i mean i know it has to come down has to get tight i know it has to come down and get tight one gust of wind and it just blew it all back on me it's one thing after another it's the way it is in life right ah this will be temporary i'm just like i say i'm dealing with the wind here too and they say like anywhere from eight inches to six inches around the bottom it's hard to stretch it out when the wind keeps blowing it on me what a project but you know what i like it this is cool fighting these wind gusts is uh not a lot of fun i don't want this to be like the wizard of oz and me and the teepee are going to oklahoma kind of thing [Music] it's calm right now but every once while you get this gus and so i got it staked and tied at the back now i got to cut this rope get it down i'm not doing it the way the book said but maybe they do it on a calm day i'm fighting the wind so i can't get these wrinkles out i have to tie it up above the door first so it doesn't keep sliding down um i'm going to try to move the seat or a1 pole in a bit back my truck i don't have a ladder this time so i've got to tie it or it's just going to keep sliding down and i won't be able to get the wrinkles out so we got to try that got to do what we got to do when we're working by ourself here well it was uh fortunate that i was able to get one of these pins in the other side here because uh one of these uh lacing pins because the uh the teepee canvas actually came off the lifting pole on the backside i'm gonna have to get a ladder and reattach it so i can get the wrinkles out of the top of the teepee but it would have fallen to the ground if i at least didn't get one pin on this side of it so we'll put a few more of these in if they'll go there we go right there you can see that the uh rope came out of the groove in the lifting pole well that's not that easy way up there to stretch it hold on to the ladder and tie the knot but instead of cutting another notch on the lifting pole i just tied it around the ropes at the top and i mean as long as our distance is fine i don't see that that's a problem okay that's nice and tight on the lifting pole just work our way around try to keep it somewhat even uh the other problem here is obviously the ground is not perfectly level the gap may vary i don't think that's an issue either i don't think that in the old days they pitch their teepees on perfectly flat ground every time either basically i need two more poles just thin ones like this one behind me it's not structural for the smoke flap they say for a 20-foot pole 23 feet long i'm not going to in this episode put the inner liner and the ozone because it's it's july i don't really need that that's more of a winter thing to keep the heat in when you have your fire and this and that but that'll give me room to do more episodes there will be more episodes as far as winter putting that up making the fire pit can't have fires now anyway so tomorrow spend the first night in the teepee and make my dinner this was a big project deserve to have a good dinner after all of this work finley out of the way please there it is it's a beauty come and get the stick you got to get out of the way you're right under the tree go get it nice and light not like those other poles work this one pulls kind of sliding forward might fall maybe off just push it back [Music] on perfect so i'm ready to spend the night in the teepee cook up my crab and my steak this will be awesome i was looking forward to this part and the crab they died it's about a two-hour drive they're not alive so i got to get them cooked up right away as soon as possible so i'm going to get them going right away they're still going to taste good um you don't want to eat dead crab like off a beach or that you find in the ocean but i know these were alive most the way here so they'll be fine so i said the crab were dead and i collected uh my big pot of water and put them in it and i was just gonna put it on and start boiling it and all sudden they're starting to revive so i mean lobster they they can last a long time without water like days i saw it at zak's uh we had the one in the crisper and it lasted days uh without water but they're starting to come alive again so i can't just uh i mean i want to put them in the hot boiling water and then it'll be over for them in two seconds i don't want to slowly heat the water and and be cruel so good to go i just thought while the crab is cooking they'll get the bed ready in here for our first night in the teepee which is cool i just want to show you how easy the crabs are to clean once they're cooked just pull the back of the shell off just like that that's done break them in half nothing to it then you just pull this off the lungs and rinse it it's as easy as cleaning a fish i'm not even kidding i'm not going to uh throw the guts and the shell in the creek but i'll just rinse these off now all we got to do is uh shell them so folks i'm uh kinda out of daylight here so i'm gonna have my dinner tomorrow because i still gotta cook my steak uh shell the crab there's reasons for this also i was in town today and i had an a w burger they say uh the sign said that uh all their beef is grass fed now and i was thinking to myself well what were you feeding your cows before like pizza and why did it take a hundred years to figure out that cows actually do eat grass but regardless i'm gonna have a good dinner tomorrow but i will spend the night in the teepee and tomorrow night as well so first night in the teepee um it was really nice cool breeze at night but that's always nice and no mosquitoes since i've had that uh mosquito magnet going i don't see mosquitoes anymore so that's uh just the odd one but not a problem like they were so we'll get on with another day and spend another night in the teepee so i'll tell you what i got the crab cooked and my uh stove quit working so i had to go to town today different town than yesterday to buy a new stove so that i could finish this dinner even or but i had my mind set on lobster so where i went they had lobster so now i'm gonna have crab and lobster crab lobster and prime rib steak it'll be good all the work i put in this teepee i should be able to have a really rich fantastic dinner right on so we'll get this dinner done this would be great you know i'm not a big fan of briquettes so as soon as they're white enough that you can cook on them they start getting ash on the top and there's not much heat left you've got to constantly stir them with a stick and get the ash off it's not like coals from fire it'd be nice when we can actually have a fire again but that's gonna be a while it's just been a drought so i'm gonna make some garlic butter too it's nice to pour over uh crab and lobster don't skimp on the butter i know my pot looks dirty but it's it's stained even though it's stainless i can't seem to get the stains off like from the coffee and whatever else i use it for it's uh i guess i need an sos pad or something but for me it doesn't bother me really i mean i'm the only one that's cooking and eating out of it so lobster are very easy to do as well i mean basically break the legs off the front legs there's no meat really on the back of them and then the tail that's basically most your meat you can get picky and pull apart the back and try to get some stuff but there's not really a lot there i usually try to pick through here because sometimes the tail will break inside a bit which in this case it actually did and i got another little piece out of there and then just shell it and if you want to see how to shell fish go back to when i visited zach at his place and i think i had the best method of showing fish or lobster i should say your teeth work got my steak but this is what i'm looking forward to crab lobster nice garlic butter now what i'm assuming is gonna happen here is i can't take a chance that finley is allergic to seafood so i'm probably gonna eat this and he'll probably get most of steak this looks so good i gotta move near the ocean that crab oh that crab is good lobster sun and white too i'm back i betcha so good even the flies keep circling probably have a bearing count because of this ma'am i could live on seafood i'm telling you get out of here it's for me don't think i'm going to worry about the steak but to be honest ah that dinner was awesome but i'll tell you what uh i didn't have room for the steak so i'll give my last shout out to finn hey finn you want that over here you want that come and get it yeah i couldn't eat this no you have to be gentle come over here okay you have to sit he's learning new tricks you have to shake a paw yep you did it before shake it good boy you want that okay enjoy it i mean it wasn't a cheap steak either but i don't have room for it this dog gets fed better than you'd believe he eats more than i do for crying out loud but he's my best buddy right just scarfing her down so this is awesome i got everything nice and tight no wrinkles tight against the poles really happy with the way this turned [Music] out [Music] [Music] [Music] the goat fins well i'll tell you night number two uh that was pretty actually good can you stop bumping the camera please finn i'm trying to do a video so it did rain all night which was good um and that dinner was awesome i'll tell you that hey finn you got the steak like i say i can't take the chance that he's allergic to seafood that's just an excuse but i think today i'll get the door on um and like i say i'm gonna wait to put the uh inner liner and the ozone just because it's not winter we don't really need it but uh that was great i'm glad it rained it's raining pretty good outside i found the door but it seems pretty wide to me it's about eight feet wide but whatever it'll work you like the teepee fin can't seem to get it come on come on man almost this isn't working not working like that it's pretty big a little dirty now then when you're not using it you just fold it up and roll it up and then you just tie it up and then you can tie it down to here i think i would just tie it like that very strange strange times we're living in so thanks uh for watching everybody um i really appreciate you all thanks to uh colorado yurt company for the teepee don't forget they make wall tents for hunting yurts as well the yurts they're great too mongolian uh kind of answer to the north american teepee all right i'll see on the next one thanks for watching there is going to be other tp episodes so stay tuned for that but it's not going to be right away we've been in lockdown like i said earlier in the video for a year and a half now that i can travel i want to get salmon fishing and i want to do some adventures and you guys are going to appreciate that too so let's get on with some other adventures
