looking at minecraft in 2019 it's crazy to think of where this game has gone all the choices that were made over the game's entire development have brought minecraft to its current place updates and features that were chosen and features that were straight-up ignored or been have put minecraft in Mojang in their current positions for as long as the game has been around updates have always been considered thought out restructured and then either released or not release it's just what developing a game is like some features like the Elektra added a ton to Minecraft in a world where we could only walk we suddenly gained the ability to glide around freely without the Alijah we'd still be walking or be on horseback it's hard to imagine minecraft without some of these updates but what's even more sad is sometimes imagining what minecraft could have had with other updates confused well don't be in this video we're gonna talk about a very old to-do list that notch had for Minecraft so let's turn the clock back nearly nine years and get right into the Minecraft updates that never were so what in the actual heck am I talking about well to put it simply back in Minecrafts infancy knotch the creator of Minecraft would oftentimes fill the community in on what he was thinking about publicly currently motion kind of hides their ideas until they actually settle on what they want then they go public get feedback and tweak it from there notch put his ideas out there got a reaction and then went from there it's an interesting parallel from 2010 to now we're not just said what he thought and now it probably goes through a ton of filters but when your game goes from being super indie to being bought out for billions of dollars it kind of makes some sense notch was so public with his ideas that at one point he had a public to-do list for Minecraft the list was sorted top to bottom from most important to least important ranging everything from thwarting hacking within minecraft to making moss grow on rocks looking at the list he had things planned was actively working on stuff or just straight-up cancelled things the list was filled with basic game to have things such as squashing bugs too crazy aspirations that I think current a Mojang could only dream up with how complex the game is in its current state heck Crouching was on this list but let's get into the cool stuff all right starting from the bottom right above mossy cobblestone was generic tile to tile interaction support looking at his direct quote for the idea it seemed like notch wanted more opportunities for blocks next to each other to change each other's state lava plus water you get stone water + crops watered crops pretty basic stuff in the old days of Minecraft you could even mix lava with redstone to get obsidian it seems like he had even more ideas though seeing as the first item listed that doesn't appear in game is lava + sand making glass now seeing a random full-on glass block under lava or beside lava probably sounds super weird and when looking at it in-game it really doesn't look good but that's not to say the idea was totally useless though using that example who's to say that in modern Minecraft this couldn't be explored by making a sand block that has glass shards in it similar to how ores work now when you break the block you'll get shards of glass that when you put together in a furnace or something like that can make a full block or pane of glass looking at Minecraft now it's not inherently a terrible thought to add more tile to tile integration the game could actually probably use it another thing that works differently than what notch originally wanted is dyes on us to do list notches exact description for his thoughts were mixed water and different ingredients to make dye apply dye to cloth to color it or to signs to write text while Java Edition is pretty far off from this description bedrock Edition is actually surprisingly close where dyes are used in cauldrons in comparison to being used as an item in the inventory it's shocking that this hasn't translated over to the Java Edition yet especially with some of the new crafting updates that have been coming to Minecraft azzam recently the fact that specific dyes can be mixed together to grab specific shades of color on armor and things of that nature is amazing the opportunities that it brings to the table is really cool if we could get that type of customization into nitty gritty things like wool and clay and things like that our minecraft world would be so much more lively now here's a weird one and not just to do list he had the idea for a dungeon mode for Minecraft in his direct quote he says it's the same as survival mode except you can't craft or modify the world it's used to play missions on pre-made maps now reading that gave me a few thoughts one it's basically adventure mode and two did he mean pre-made maps by himself or by other players I mean presumably the feature would be available to everybody but specifically calling it dungeon mode made me feel like there was probably more to it the exact wording was used to play missions on pre-made maps did he want to try out a dungeon crawler mode in Minecraft seeing as how my works by spawning massive randomly generated structures together like with abandoned mineshafts it's not crazy to think that notch may have wanted to create a bunch of random rooms for players to go through that would randomly generate and connect in a specific place if it was just another word for adventure mode then so be it but maybe Mojang dug up some old files for games like minecraft dungeons hmm no way to know for sure something that not chuck a lot of pride in was minecraft ability to be played multiplayer and thus he had some ideas for items with that exact thing in mind one idea was a land claim flag in his description for the item he said planting a flag maybe it cost gold and survival claims an area of land no monsters can spawn or die from aged in that area and only selected players can build in that area unquote well there's definitely a lot of opinions and ways in which that could go in regards to multiplayer servers the idea was there and was definitely made with the best intentions arguably mods and plugins have done things with similar functionality and name tags have stopped things from despawning it's an interesting concept but would have ultimately destroyed certain areas of the game if players are able to craft such player limiting blocks and survival keeping things from D spawning that's fine keeping players from building yeah no that could actually be used to grief a map to be unbuildable interesting concept if you've ever looked up into the sky and minecraft you'll probably have seen some little inconsistencies blocks will sometimes just be floating or maybe you've decided to build a floating structure all in your own an idea notch wanted to mess with and which would have definitely made minecraft a totally different game was gravity on the page not said perhaps all floating chunks of blocks should just fall down except for a special block obsidian that can be used to make floating things floating islands would need obsidian vanes to stay afloat seeing this how we didn't have scaffolding at the time in 2010 and seeing how minecraft works now it's hard to imagine minecraft with any sense of gravity aside from blocks like sand and gravel there are mods that have implemented this and have done crazy things to Minecraft it definitely makes for a different playing experience but one that would have arguably hindered minecraft core gameplay if you were going for a super creative route or wanted to build anything in the sky if I'm being honest I'm kind of glad this one did not ever make it into Minecraft and finally probably the craziest coolest and most shocking idea that hasn't been implemented yet is seasons on notches list little is shared with us it was planned for survival mode and he was wanting it before the first beta release of the game but man just thinking about it makes you wonder the different textures during the different seasons how it would affect different biomes how you would have to combat it there's just a ton of missed opportunities here seeing where minecraft was in the Alpha days in comparison to now is like looking in a funhouse mirror sure they're similar to the real thing but they're also just so different to Minecraft back then would have been arguably easier to code seasons for as the world only really had one or two distinct biomes whereas now we have tons of different biomes I don't know how crazy well it worked in Minecraft nowadays but I do have some ideas that I'll talk about in a video coming out shortly so stay tuned for that but what do you think which features would you have liked to have seen implemented do you think that motion should just go ahead with any of these ideas anyways let me know in the comments section down below but other than that that just about does it for me for now if you guys enjoyed this video please consider leaving a like on it because it would really help out myself and Michael McGill who co-wrote and edited this video the channel and the video quite a lot but anyways guys I hope you all enjoyed my name is antvenom and i bid you all farewell thanks so much for
