in utah utah motorsports campus salt lake city utah and this yeah this is nitro rallycross round one of five where it all began just a few years ago for the first ever nitro rallycross part of nitro world games and i is such a pleasure to be here on these hollowed grounds look at this ginormous trap just shy of a mile long look at the big jump i'm jared diana joining me it's andrew foley from across the pond yeah he's british but he loves rallycross and that's why we're here yesterday was excited but today is game day what are your thoughts man i dude i can't wait yesterday we saw a bunch of battle brackets drivers going head-to-head today we're going to see seven cars out on track and boat but he raises them five in the semis we're gonna get ten through to the final it's gonna be a big battle for the first winner of a championship round nitro rallycross racing we saw some racing yesterday but they're only two cars on track so i can't wait to see a ton of cars on track together hopefully no carnage maybe a bit oh no there's guaranteed carnage this is nitro rallycross and as you said just warming things up seeing two cars on the track at the same time then seven as we go into heats we're gonna heat one or two i'm getting ahead of myself you get excited i get pumped it's it's a pleasure to work with you we've bounced around many times but this is nitro rallycross kind of changing the game a little bit doing things differently brackets all the excitement again we have some just legends in the building some 600 horsepower vehicles and we warm things up with sierra cars but overall again it doesn't say pastrana rallycross but i feel like he's kind of the president right so let's uh let's let's let the number 199 break down what is nitro rallycross nrx is here a new championship across multiple rounds in north america and it all came from the mind of this man travis pastrana what do i love most about rally well competition i love competition whether it's foosball or pit bikes or motocross i love to be competitive i want to be able to fly i want to be able to slide and rallycross was the closest thing to what i loved but i still thought the drivers can be challenged more the cars can be challenged more the crowd can be more entertained and that's why we started natural rallycross travis pastrana is the epitome of living on the edge he did have to take a brief intermission after that last run as he chipped his tooth and pushing limits his determination to showcase what these cars can really do was the catalyst to the birth of nrx for me i think what's gonna scare most people is the jump i mean there's a jump over a jump over a tunnel so there's a chance that three drivers will be over top each other at one time which is pretty mind-blowing for most car racers but i think the coolest part is gonna be the outsides are pretty much huge bench corners like talladega and the insides are flat so you just slide in the car so hopefully it'll allow a lot more opportunity to pass a lot more opportunity for good racing without having to follow the same line in 2018 travis and his team set to work designing the ultimate track at the utah motorsports campus that included a 100-foot plus gap jump i believe that if you're an f1 driver if you're a nascar driver if you're any driver um if you're a world rally driver you want to drive rallycross but the tracks haven't challenged the vehicles they haven't challenged the drivers enough to get them over and i want every track to be different i want one track to be snow and ice one track to be sane one track to be dusty yeah it's not ideal race conditions let's see who powers through let's have big jumps at this track and small jumps to this track let's have off cameras this track and burns this track let's challenge the drivers if the drivers are excited we found out a nitro circus like if the riders are excited the crowd's excited the world held its breath for the first nitro rally cross with the likes of world rallycross championship stars such as matthias extra and timmy hansen battling against domestic rally icons like ken block and tanner faust extra started the main event on pole but it was the swede timmy hanson who took the first title we joked early great strategy and every lap i was able to close the gap the wind today feels incredible nigerian games gold it wasn't long before nitro rallycross became the big attraction on the worldwide rallycross calendar in 2019 hanson's younger brother kevin who had previously watched timmy from the pit lanes took to the track to win the second ever nitro rallycross title [Applause] then a global pandemic struck derailing last year's plans and so nrx will relaunch in 2021 and a global audience will witness a highly competitive championship with five stops that spread right across north america from utah to minnesota to arizona california and florida this year nycha rally crosses a proper championship i mean we had two one-off events we learned a lot from each of those we believe that now is the time we can get the best in the world we're going to have the best teams we're going to have the best cars we're going to have the most relatable and the highest flying series on earth and i can't wait to see what happens this year [Music] wow i mean you can just feel the passion from travis he loves this stuff and like he said he's competitive at everything but even though he's kind of the brainchild of it doesn't mean he's going to win that's kind of the big thing here but the equalizer the track coley what are your thoughts of this nearly mile long track it's 70 dirt 30 pavement but overall what are your thoughts it's grass i think it's mega man we're saving the makers for winners they're special okay you don't make it out of the game save the mega save the mega okay i will demonstrate later but check this out look at the drone shot smack in the middle the 100 foot gap jump underneath that the table top underneath that the joe clap you can hear it from me this is a great rally crosstrack but who you really need to hear it from is the drivers because everybody who comes here liam thorne robin larson andreas backwards guys who've never been to nitro rallycross before came here and they're like i'm having the most fun out in the track i've ever had in the rallycross car it's it's like maximum send everywhere it's sideways that the jumps are insane everyone's having a great time and that's what travis wants what he said if the drivers are on a good time they entertain the crowd the crowd having a good time me and jared are having a good time hope you guys at home are as well i can't wait to go racing today i'm so excited calm down say it to megan save the mega save descendants but you know what let's take a deeper dive into this iconic track [Music] this is the utah motorsports campus in salt lake city home of the first nrx event of the season it's time to turn up the adrenaline with nitro rallycross this one-of-a-kind dirt track is as technical as it is thrilling 15 turns including three killer berms a 100 foot plus jump is the main feature of a mind-blowing crossover including a smaller 50-foot jump complete with tunnel the innovative nearly one mile course is even better close up from one of the 8 000 grandstand seats or the trackside cd this is a track that will push the drivers and cars to their absolute limits buckle up and hold on tight this is nitro rx [Music] we're writing the script here but there is no script because we don't know what's going to unfold we're going to see sierra cars a little bit we're going to be seeing next cars which is a 300 horsepower so we go 550 horsepower 200 horsepower to 300 for next and then 600 horsepower for our super cars dryer reinbold you got tanner faust in the mix he's in the building in a vehicle that he's very unfamiliar with but tanner found the golden child being a rallycross champion himself and you know all these different sanction bodies really coming together overall but uh you know taking a look at our drivers let's talk through i mean scott speed notably you know he won the bracket battles yesterday he's back he conquered this track because admittedly the track conquered him he broke his back here dude's an inch and a half shorter thanks to you he told us that you may have been watching yesterday he told us he's an inch and a half shorter you only realize when he walked past the marker on the door that the kids was like i'm not as tall as i used to be but look through who he beat yeah look at mcconnell and harping they had a great run there timmy hansen they've done some repairs overnight we'll tell you about that in a minute faust and kevin hansen your top seven and then bennett erickson backward right down in p10 doran and last and their own issues as well for the rx cartel oliver erickson and cabot bigem so that's your top 14 and this is what we had yesterday with the battle bracket yeah the debut of a new format the battle brackets two cars in the track at the same time you start with 14 so number one qualifier number two qualifier automatically advanced from the 16 into the eight and we kicked things off timmy hanson was that number one qualifier solo qualifier scott speed they got by runs but tanner foust we saw tanner going against what did he go against this was against steve after this was actually in round two so we had a round of 14 with me and jabra tomatoes yesterday it's it's kind of like formula drift it's kind of like a tennis or a soccer tournament you you whittle it down you start with a bunch of people you end with a few crashes like this and we get to it basically get the fastest guys make it to the semi-finals and then the final we saw some great passing faust there was pretty foolish on offering pastrana he made some wild passes and hanson got it back as well and we saw an all subaru final and notably you know they started kind of the day out a little slow maybe had a little issues with the vehicles hitting some rumble strip but overall pastrana and speed came out on top speed got that overall bracket battle winner so he's gonna have you know p1 in that heat what have we got what are we going to do we also got four championship points so remember championships right this is the whole battle broken down look over on the right hand side and you can see yeah scott speed travis pastrana scott got the win he gets four points it was one point per battle win so actually at the moment scott speed leads the nitro rallycross championship which is awesome he's going in now with a big advantage into the first of two heat races so those heat races will have seven cars in each and the top two are going to go through so it's a great start for subaru after nearly getting tripped up at the start of yesterday they ended the day in the top two positions yeah overall just a lot of exciting things here i mean you know their motto is utah the state of sport and they're really making that come true as all the drivers are getting prepped everywhere on the cockpit i believe that should be travis seeing a little if it's got the [ __ ] yeah he's got his readers on when he does racing you know he doesn't see him speaking of batman overall our battle bracket winner his history his relationship with this and uh you know let's get to find out a little bit more about scott speed we'll see if he lives up to his name here this weekend [Music] my name is scott speed and i drive for super motor sports yeah they'll come down to the last session basically attractive for me personally i'm excited to race against myself you know to me it's always been a battle within uh obviously the last time i was in the car broke my back so i mean this is this is not mentally easy to just jump back in the car and be at a hundred percent so you know those are my own personal challenges that i overcome and honestly those are the challenges that i'm that i'm most excited about trying to tackle the sports changing the type of tracks we're going to are changing the driving style is going to change all of us are going to have to adapt to this you know obviously subaru's been great they got a lot of great guys on the team and it was really rewarding in 2019 to be able to come in and you know get them some wins and get them you know to you know a place where they they deserve to be you know as one of the top teams to be [Music] i am the trusty co-pilot [Music] the moving part that talking sierra cars coley sierra cars we have two different styles they might look similar but they are quite different when it comes to horsepower 150 horsepower that's the 700 rx and the other 200 horsepower that hayabusa engine and those are called the rx3 let's talk about the drivers first and foremost who's in what car here we go so yeah on the grid at the front you've got andrew carlson and john mckinnis john was the winner yesterday went ahead a chat with him he's having a great time we'll give you a little bit more details uh when he's out on track in a minute gage hughes and preston godfrey on row two op anderson ethan rapp on row three and on the back row there that's leah block and yes she is a relation that's ken block's eldest daughter i believe she's been here at utah motorsport campers drifting uh most of the hoonigan fleet over the last couple of years and she actually missed yesterday she was away on a work commitment yeah she's back now to race uh against these guys notably opie anderson he actually developed this vehicle and and he thanks you for thrashing on them coley understand that yeah yeah you've got a bit of a reputation with sierra cars they've been very kind they let me have a have a bit of a rip down maybe mechanical symphony isn't my number one uh my number one skill set but these cars jared they are fun they're really fun bike engines high rpm sequential gearboxes rear wheel drive only super slippery out on the dirt of course you've got a lot of dirt here at nitro rallycross and this is their heat race which is going to decide their grip positions for the final later on today also let's talk about this ethan rap leah block and opie anderson remember those names because they're in the 50 horsepower 700 rx and here we go send it for our first heat in their sierra cars here at nitro rally cross five laps let's kick things off remember hit that joke the yoka excuse me the oklahoma tire joker like once and only once let's talk about it so it looks like john mcinnes i think has got the uh best start our winner yesterday there's a split down at term one so the split of term one if you go to the inside immediately it takes you to this which we call the table top i'm sure some of you weren't watching yesterday so we'll try and get you familiar with the track if you go the other way then that should take you to the joker because jared these guys don't do the big gap jon right all right all right so taking a look at that and go through that bank and mcginnis getting all the clean air take note of the names there on the left that's the leaderboard right but also next their names if you see that x that means it's signified they have gone through the joker lab yeah the joker lap here is longer and in nitro rallycross we will actually see both longer and shorter joe collapse during the course of our five round season this year everybody takes one joker in every race and that's our tactical element you know if you guys are maybe an f1 fan or an indie fan you know it's your pit stop it's when you go in you try and get out of traffic and get some clear air with rally cross you head in the joker lap you do it tactically to try and come out in front unless like the kid is you're leading and normally if you're the leader you wait to the end so mcginnis out front you can see a split of 3.1 seconds godfrey who uh that name might sound familiar with the nitro circus family uh kind of creator and founder of metro circus as well and uh gage hughes he comes from the utv industry he comes to us from missouri ozark missouri gage hughes and uh traditionally again races the side by side but all mcginnis all the time that was from yesterday to today he almost lost it if you weren't watching yesterday one more turn for glory and stalled it uh with another racer almost catching them that was it wasn't it you were like it always happens if we found one about how great he's going for someone he then starts to suck immediately for them so here's a good one spoke to john this morning and uh he he said that yesterday got lost in the dirt and he ended up going up the up going up a gap jump he nearly went up the gap jump he said i got lost he said i saw the white line i realized no definitely not no i might pulled another gear and gone for it jared personally i i want to do the gap so mcguinness has all that clean air he's up front but keep in mind he has not hit that joker lap and you know we estimated yes having a of course it's a different thing in a real drive car and i think what you'll find is you know the tight right coming out the tunnel is loose those guys are not going to have to track you you know you see in a in a supercar you just put a brick on the throttle you get that the traction pulls you straight back through and job done um but with these rear wheel drive cars not so easy he's only got 3.8 jared i don't reckon that's enough godfrey is sweating him and talking to godfrey he said that he's you know he's had a vehicle for about a year but never raced it he's that fun you know out in the ranch maybe the desert but uh never going wheel to wheel and uh looks like he's making good use of his vehicle right now three point eight seconds on that split but it's getting a little loose going to that step up how's he gonna handle it he's taken point seven off godfrey check it out and that's literally in that last sector so one of the big improvements we made at this track is actually to put in four different sectors now that hops us up here and announcing helps you guys at home but it really helps the spotters now these guys don't have spotters so he won't he doesn't really know how far back godfrey is actually actually i i will correct you leah block i know she does have a spotter ken is in her ear so he's in the building he's raced at this weekend i was i was you know poking the bear out of uh he is funny for leah so as we take a look we are in lap four mcginnis it's all mcginnis he's just keeping it really tidy and here we go for that joker laughs yeah his car wasn't looking super comfortable coming onto the straight and again they're turning into the left and the right just having to have two bites of the uh the apple trying to get it turned in but looking good here coming out on the merge and he's out in front in fact the gap looked jared yeah went up to 8.6 so i reckon godfrey has either had a half spin or potentially an issue got two cars side by side in front of the commentary position that's op anderson and i think potentially leah block is it who are racing over the table top right now you guys are looking for machinists out front i wonder if we can see them in the background a little bit barely see him you could barely see godfrey he was going through the bank approaching that step up jump and there he is yeah that's godfrey now that's that's still mckinnie's story yeah there's a couple of battles going on furthermore this is the one so emerson in the uh orange car i think actually it's ethan rapp yeah so the timing screen's updated uh leah's maybe ducked off into the joker there they were in the background those guys are both in the 50 horsepower cars so a nice tight race between them look at this it looks like mcginnis and yeah that's gained a gang of time look at that one point one second we got a race on our hands and this would i mean something strange is going on there oh spin in the background hughes is gay chooses to drop it on the brakes and turn why it's a tightening left-hander which makes it tricky but again it's been stretched out so there's something a little strange going on between the kennedys and godfrey godfrey though he's got him with any sights and that's what you want it's the final lap it doesn't really matter here i mean ideally you know you want to get the pole if you win you get the pole in the final he might go for a pass all right so look at the guinness he knows donkey's right behind him again some drivers are utilizing spotters hopefully he's in his ear oh look at that and we talk just as the track transforms and develops we've got some great feedback with drivers both here in the booth and last night at the bar so uh talking and talking with a lot of the drivers and and how the car and how their vehicle and the track kind of melds together that's the equalizer right as the track conforms because they all are on spec yokohama tires across the board yeah they are indeed they have to use the same rubber no cuts allowed there's no changes now mckinney's going to take the heat race victory from godfrey how far back he's got three at the line it was 4.8 drop right off the back again yeah interesting it seemed like on the straightaway is when mcginnis just pulled away you know so yeah you're kind of throwing your hands up and it's okay when a gap goes from one second to ten down to four and back to eight i'm like you know what i'm not sure what's going on so uh they're still good they'll get it tidy up mckinney's having it all his own way at the minute jared i'd like to see someone take the fight to him in the final later today we'll see yeah and carlson down uh he's a bit of a lapper there he was down quite a bit andrew carlson from elk river minnesota as we take a look at the sierra car heat replay you can see it just just how massive this track is again uh you know going you know across the country minnesota next weekend so buy your tickets if you're in that region come join us in the building it's going to be exciting erx but overall this track is just really dynamic really unique but mcginnis i mean just continued his success from yesterday into today yeah i've not driven these cars on tarmac i've only driven on the loose and on the loose they're absolutely brilliant you're backing them in down a cog light it up you know hold it sideways they're really really good fun to drive and they're physical too jared we said yes so you look through the screen you see the hands whipping across the top of the dash look at look at the input [Music] but you know you always get out sweaty with a big grin on your face yeah all right so mcginnis as you said we'll be getting full as we advance on through sierra cars and we'll have seen them later a little spin out there from gage hughes that was later in the race he had that backed in nicely if he could have just held on but as it transitioned from the tarmac to the dirt the drip level sort of dropped away and he wasn't able to take it but john mcinnes was check the flag for him he's got to be the favorite for the final later he won the final yesterday hold on loosely and don't let go as the song says but uh gage unfortunately did let go of the wheel all right as we are next going to be seeing some next car and no pun intended yeah next next car next up some next next next yo dogger who'd you like next that's why i put some next in your neck next that's what we're doing nexcar as the 300 horsepower hot hatchback uh walk us through power plants i i talked about horsepower but all wheel drive walk us through 2.4 liter normally aspirated cosworth mid rear mounted so that means no turbo mid rim into the back of the car but not right at the back like a porsche sequential gearbox big brakes as you said already all-wheel drive you know they've got they can disconnect the handbrake with it with a kick of the clutch if they want to get on that so they're mini supercars they need to be driven quite tidily to be honest with that give you the best lap time if you've got into a supercar many of our drivers are in supercar have come through these categories in old championships so you may know these cars as lights rx2 cars they're all the same thing here it's nrx next casper janssen george mcginnis on the front row good start for casper then has to kick cuts but again he's going to get him yellow squad driver going to try and shut the door late for taylor p3 eric gordon down in peak form again he's done shut the door straight into the joker elaine these are the two races that we watched yesterday uh talking about janssen and uh and makayla but mcginnis you know he's going over there we're seeing that joe glad being utilized and again that is the notify the x we're seeing some uh some tight racing here overall right out of the gate but uh janssen looks like uh he gets he's got a problem he's had a problem again he's out front so where's casper oh yeah caspians is the black and green if you're not here if you weren't watching yesterday it was right on the very easy i said from the commentary position he's just making it on to the first of the berms so i'm going to spin in the background for lane michaela so this is now a plane sailing for george mcgannis now jared we've got another heat race coming up next based on time so mcginnis has got clean air needs to focus get the hammer down not get too much wheelspin go for those lap times mcginnis looking really really tight you got to think uh what's going through his head right now as johnson is out he's not part of the equation he was the one to watch yesterday but look at that the winds have changed that smile on his face he's really risen to the occasion american racer he's been over to europe because he met his father for the first time yesterday yeah this is my first rallycross race yeah so there are other son races in uh open world racing over here in the states and uh he was quite surprised when george said look i want to do some racing but i want to go rallycross and spent a couple of weeks trying to persuade him to go open wheel and george was like nope i'm going to get all cendy on the gravel and they came across the europe made a brilliant debut in narvika for rally x nordic really impressed by him and he's impressing again here jack did not quite go his way yesterday yeah i gotta say that berm that that they're utilizing right there normally if you came over the jump we'll see that later in supercars very smooth it's looking good it's looking sticky and we talk about supercars utilizing that step up taking some speed out of their momentum overall and uh right now it looks like we are looking at is that gordon yeah vaquela 16 seconds behind the only driver to take that joker lap and uh yeah it looks like gordon right now in second about seven seconds behind mcginnis eric gordon of course he's in that brand new car that um he bought he was on the boat on the way over here and he called up his i want to race uh in nrx next they were like we got a car got one car left he's brand new it's on the boat you want to buy it he said yeah go on and buy it so that's the way to do it i think yep yep so mcginnis you can see eight seconds scoring just back there coming into view and over that tabletop jump looking really good yeah i'm again i say he's 16 years old so that he's really young you speak to him you wouldn't think so you think he was like mid-20s but i mean that in a good way he's you know he's still a kid he's down a lot of fun but he's got a great head on his shoulders you know he's mature he knows what he's got to new to these guys yeah it was great to have them along this is the support category you're going to see it every round of nitro ran across this year mcginnis is in for a full season i'm sure some of the other drivers will guest look at that channel yeah he's he's got some car controller but he knows when to use it jared that's a little bit of a handbrake in the right hand before the joker split into the oklahoma joker and out the other side or close to the wall oh and close to the wall on the outside too so of course this is the thing with the joke you only do it once a race you never know what the conditions are like and they nearly caught him out yeah george mcginnis this is a good opportunity for him to throw caution to the wind or throw the back end of that vehicle into some turns and she said get aggressive you know finding his right line and the track is going to transform you're seeing mud clocks right you're seeing wet areas that's going to dry out throughout the day yes we will have some track maintenance throughout the day kind of maybe counting down scraping here letting it dry out yesterday we saw as it transformed got dustier dust became part of the equation getting on windscreens you can't see the sun's setting it's in your eye all these variables it's transforming throughout the day no optimus prime here no decepticons no autobots you know but i love transformers and i really wanted one you know i really want anyway we're going off we're going left field mcgann is coming on to the final lap so what uh jarrod was saying as well about the trap being wet they actually wet the track heavily overnight that's because yesterday morning the track was awesome by the afternoon it got a bit dusty i need to give you a bit of info on that it's pretty windy here but it's super hot as well so i'm going to go european on you it's 29 celsius what it is over here in uh in fahrenheit jared i don't know i think you look at my phone real hot damn come on it's not that hot arizona and october it's gonna be a lot hotter than this yeah but but the sun the elevation is dry yeah i mean your allergies i mean it is [Music] that's another film reference so yeah you can look at look how dry it is here but the wet patch is actually these guys you can see them struggling to find tracks i'm going to be really careful on it so the tracks are going to change during the day that's one of the challenges of rally boss and that's what i like about it you can't ever go out there not even from one lap to the next and expect it to be bang on the side mcginnis making it look really easy and as you said some of these next car races are very aggressive and they are very close not the case here today mcginnis and you know unfortunately johnson it was over as it just began casper he is not the friendly ghost right now because he's probably a little bit upset he's the baby yeah he's the livid ghost right this is not a kid's show that one is well angry he's just gonna take the arch off these cars it's like a clamshell body that goes over the top so it's pretty easy to repair that's no biggie all right so for kayla you can see him just lifting it on through sitting on the rim that's you know we see a lot of those fiberglass bodies either the rear or the front end they they go for it but now as we are crossing the finish line he will get that third spot you can see all of them hitting that joker lap but johnson nowhere to be found yeah you will see the dnf didn't even complete the first lap on the timing screen we look at janssen here let's see if there was any contact jared in that first corner do you remember him and the guinness came together watching hanson here he gets alongside again it's there's just a tiny tap between them it could be enough that makes the cast seem fragile they're not but with that side to side contact if you break the drive shaft you know you can be out of luck this is lane mckayla or the kayla with the wall tap in the in the joker yeah flirting with the dirt in there going in the joker lap and uh that's where johnson he just he called it he went he spun [Music] and that will maybe take longer to try out because the cars only use it once it gets way less lag time we talked to tanner faust you know yesterday and last night he was talking about that going to that joker lap it's a little sketchy you know you kind of got this this blind turn down into the trenches right you're going underneath that bottom floor but look at george mcginnis that smile says it all and uh set himself up for success you know got to got the number one spot yeah good result from mcginnis and gordon we will have later on o'reilly autopilot's last chance qualifier which will mean that some of the other drivers will have the chance to go through so it's not over for kayla and jansen we will in fact i believe see all the drivers uh in the final but it's about where they go on the group position so if you go through early and you see the same in supercar you get those front rows on the grid and here is our grid you can see martin england out front and sage karim gets that number one spot and then uh bring up the rear simon olefson so this is just a three car top to advance on into the finals and as you said the o'reilly auto parts lcq that stands for last chance qualifier utah the state of look how even it is between gonna go joking straight away it's the right thing to do you're never gonna win turn one from there ollison looks to the inside line but carom's got great rotation on that car this is a good one so endless quick enough to put the laps in he's gone joker now now the job for him is to hunt down the cars in front and hope that they don't respond to his joker quickly well again we saw earlier with the track transforming something happens i mean just such a simple simple spin there from uh from janssen just threw him off look at how muddy you're seeing a lot it's it looks tacky you know if you see these well that's uh that's that's a great word to use so there's a bit of this shiny i would describe that as slippery that's when it's wet when it goes tacky that's perfect but i know karen's got a current [Music] all over the back of him and i think england's joker on the first lap jared was a great move yeah i mean he's slammed down there but look at you know if you can keep on going we see that a lot you know stage rally rally cross keep it moving if uh if you're not fizz and you can keep on keep on keeping on so sage karen's biggest issue is going to be uh long left-handers olefson's got a price he's got a rear right so olufsen's got a bit of a he's got a bit of a problem with carom what watch for him in the long left because that's when you lean on the right hand tire and that's when you can push it further off go on site get it done all right looks like hanging tough there sage keeps on it like you said those long lefts over the table top and through the woods to grandma's house he goes we're here on lap too so if you're if you're uh if you're inland spotter now jared this is when you get onto the radio and say look you're all good uh he's gonna hunt him down but yeah i mean look how close he's already you know the game is 5.5 less than two the other thing is if karim can continue longer than oliverson if the top two are going on he cases it big time that's how he pushed it off in the previous lap now he fires the rear end though ellen should make [Music] look at this like he is a fox absolutely right tracking him down i was gonna i'd be waiting for the straight here but he's gonna get better traction [Applause] i mean he's but if you look now england should be able to outdrag him down the straight or at least he'll break him into turn one he should be able to get heavier on the ball and in fact karen's gone joker so he knows he's gonna get eaten up here might as well go joker either him or olufsen's going to go through it depends who lasts the longest so they need to carry on round really jared yeah this is all about attrition just staying alive keeping the tires underneath your vehicle making sure like you said just limping it putting a band-aid over that wound to keep it on to be honest look at the timing screen ollison has actually pulled off the circuit so now it goes cramps bottle might be done you know what you're in just bring it back don't give the mechanics too much to wrench on in between now and and later on today yeah there still has been opportunity against the lcq last chance qualifier to forge and you're seeing these next cars hit that casing and having some problems i love that jump oh yeah it's one of those ones yes they travis said the first days travis said in the drivers breaking to the drivers you have to you have to learn to jump it's like motocross we don't hear everything flat out we want to land on the down ramp and get the traction and then that step up on the fast right is the perfect example of learning to jump something that a lot of these drivers haven't done there are jumps in the european scene but nothing like this yeah that's what's so cool about nigeria yeah i like you all but i've just set fire to it and we're gonna have to have loads of jumps it's gonna be awesome well it's progressive too you know with with the supercars it's a little more painfully obvious obviously the big gap jump going over there on that step up and even the the you know the jump that broke scott speeds back has has a nice smoother landing as opposed to going to flats so uh inland now out front you can see 12 seconds behind is sage karim so as long as these two gentlemen finish out their laps and continue to see the checkered flag they will be seeing and advancing to the finals really nosing down there in that step up it's a tricky one i think you know with the weight in the back don't forget that mid-rear engine as you're coming up the up ramp the car behaves differently when you launch it supercar with the weight in the front they fly differently you saw the subarus on the jump practice on wednesday we're flying really nose heavy and they've done something to dial in the rear because it can be to do with the way the rear suspension kicks you off the launch and then of course you can change the attitude of the car in the air as well with throttling brakes just as you can across her all right so uh slowly moving through here as we are on the final lap it's great to see sage karam out here because he had some issues yesterday so just rising to the occasion in different days we have an independent round yesterday for nexcar and sierra cars and this is basically round two and we will be seeing next cars throughout the entirety of the season sierra cars a little cameo for this weekend but next cars will be seen through our total five rounds yeah they're doing double headers pretty much everywhere we go i think so they're going to end up with 10 rounds compared to five that's to make sure they get enough seat time and i feel like they're getting value for their sponsors and uh it's great to have them along if you look down the entry list for niger rally across supercar i mean so many of these drivers have come through lights fraser mcconnell kevin hanson kevin erickson oliver erickson that they have all come through yeah they've also yes you know whether it's grc lights whether it was rx2 over in europe or the world championship yeah that's how they progressed up through the sport so 20 second gap obviously a grand canyon of a gap uh overall but england will finish it out with the checkered flag getting the win there we go as sage karim bringing it on home and he had an early you know debated tire but that just goes to show you that the vehicles can withstand abuse and continue on through the course so sage karem that wicks filters number 24. bring it across for the red white and blue he's fast as well this is the thing jared nobody's seen his pace so far i think he's going to surprise some of the guys from europe who maybe weren't across in america's rallycross in nineteen karen was on the podium four times his debut season really i mean he did a most of the season and was very impressive so hopefully come the final we're gonna get all these seven cars together and we're gonna see some people get stuck in let's see a great race yeah that's that's what we're looking for keep it all together it's going to be wheel-to-wheel it's going to be the most next cars we'll see on course and on track know it's it's very easy to mismanage that if he had to push it right off the inside of the rim he's gonna jam up the transmission and you're not gonna finish the run so you can see he has to go super slow through the left handers where you're leaning on that front right the rest of the time he was still pretty sendy on the straight you're all good you can gun it i'm not suggesting you do that on the motorway you know freeway you're gonna get in trouble for that um but uh you're all good in rallycross good win though uh franklin job down looks like it should be about seven or seven to 14 seconds right because uh we're seeing england's time his best lap is 102. the joker was 112. so and then and then sage about seven seconds so did england take his joker on lap one though i think he did so that means it's off the start in which case he's probably been like i might be wrong but but i i reckon it's gonna be a little bit longer than supercar all right well as we wrap up our heats got a cape they fight crime now i'm joking 600 horsepower all-wheel drive machines i'm jared deanna joining me once again andrew coley thank you so much man the question is how excited are you andrew but also let's let's educate the fans here real quick what is nitro rallycross so the nitro rally crosses is ran across 2.0 this sport's actually 50 years old nitro crosstalk in 2018 right here at the utah motorsport campus travis you know what rallycross is awesome but i think i can make it double awesome i'm going to get the rule but they're going to rip some papers out of it yeah we're going to burn some stuff we're just going to go for big jumps we're going to go for berms and and that's what he's done he's created this incredible place what's even better is as jarrod already said we're going to go to four more of these tracks this year and see what else has come out of his mind super pumped great to work with you and you've announced so many different rallycross sanction bodies across the globe and this is our first time working together but the question is what is nrx if we need to give you some more education here you go here's some what is interactive to me is pretty huge rallycross next level it's like rallycross 2.0 in the new breast of rallycross more like the video games i played when i was 10. it's half dirt and half tarmac flying cars obviously massive banks and just the best action out there the most glorified version of a demolition derby out there to me this is going to be x games times 20. the next level of rallycross tracks in the world you can never be fully in control of what's going on in an nrx event it's like stop action pack jumps contact finish let's do it again it's gonna be a lot of carnage and i imagine the the racing will just get better and better as we go through the season just tempering the excitement there cabot big um the boys the oldsburg's gentlemen taking a look at this track point nine miles overall 70 dirt 30 tarmac the big jump is the elephant in the room i mean that that's exactly what we're looking at but let's take a closer look at this track that is utah motorsports campus what do you got that's the front straight down to term ones if you split left here you're heading to the tabletop underneath if you split right you've got a choice of the joker or the 100 foot gap jump the clearance speed this year is pushing 80 miles per hour depending on if you're left or right you've got a big split down into the joker on the right hand side this place is awesome and we can tell you guys just a little bit more about it this is the utah motorsports campus in salt lake city home of the first nrx event of the season it's time to turn up the adrenaline with nitro rallycross this one-of-a-kind dirt track is as technical as it is thrilling 15 turns including three killer berms a 100 foot plus jump is the main feature of a mind-blowing crossover including a smaller 50-foot jump complete with tunnel the innovative nearly one mile course is even better close up from one of the 8 000 grandstand seats or the trackside cd this is a track that will push the drivers and cars to their absolute limits buckle up and hold on tight this is nitro rx [Music] and yesterday we had the battle brackets a new format in rallycross i thought it was really exciting two men the league two men enter and one man leaves we're not leaving the building but advancing on i thought it was really exciting it made for all thriller no filler tp travis pastrana showed up we had many drivers that had some amazing passes yeah we did this was unfortunate where timmy hansen ended up in the wall timmy though very kindly run immediately through to race controllers like that was not travis sport my car was broken travis went through this was faust losing out to rp and after the jump tons of good races side by side over the big jump as well for subaru it came down to scott speed versus travis pastrana it was an exciting way to end it and with the subarus i think it it just made them feel better a lot more confidence there for scott speed grabbing that checkered flag overall and this sound all played out this is how the bracket lays out you start with that number one qualifier top left you got your number two qualifier on the right and then you see them matched up one through fourteen so our number two and number one qualifier got the fast pass into the eight really important as well for you guys to know they get a championship point for every battle one so you make it right through to the semi-finals he got three points a piece that one final point of course was up for grabs in the final battle between pastrana and speed and it was scott speedy won see he has four championship points to travis pastrana's three arpin and frasier mcconnell on two each having made it through to the semifinals they are your top four in the championship after yesterday and that's what gets us to the heat today so scott will be on pole in the first of the heat races travis pastrana will be on pole in the second of them so literally scott speed comes into this heat as our current points leader here's our heats you can see scott speed leads the pack frazier mcconnell timmy hanson kevin hansen kevin erickson liam doran and then oliver erickson and he too i know yeah travis pastrana up in faust bennett backward larson and bigam and on the right-hand side of your screen are the blanks so that's where they go through so if you win one of these two heat races you go through to the front row if you come second in one of these two heat races that's at the final you go through to the second row of the final the remaining places are up for grabs in the semi-finals and the last chance qualifier later today the o'reilly auto parts lcq last chance qualifier very exciting the road to the final as we're seeing again the gentleman that has the current most points that is four points scott speed let's learn some more about the gentleman that could potentially live up to his name scott speed my name is scott speed and i drive for subaru motorsports yeah he'll come down to the last session basically he was flying over that thing for me personally i'm excited to race against myself you know to me it's always been a battle within uh obviously the last time i was in the car i broke my back so i mean this is this is not mentally easy to just jump back in the car and be at 100 so you know those are my own personal challenges that i overcome and honestly those are the challenges that i'm that i'm most excited about trying to tackle the sports changing the type of tracks we're going to are changing the driving style is going to change all of us are going to have to adapt to this you know obviously subaru's been great they got a lot of great guys on the team and it was really rewarding in 2019 to be able to come in and you know get them some wins and get them you know to you know a place where they they deserve to be you know as one of the top teams to be and we are getting prepared for our heat one right there scott speed he is front and center with a very impressive uncle saul is on the car but uh mcconnell definitely one to watch and a lot of the drivers are impressed with how he's driving getting over here but scott speed will be out front and here we go as scott speed is on the front line let's introduce another member of our team katie osborne katie jared it's good to be back here with you guys now scott was telling me earlier today that the track is actually completely different from a driver's perspective they move tires to every corner so that really changes the game a little bit he said today the key is who can adapt the quickest and also whose first couple lap strategy pays off so that's what's happening in the subaru camp but remember them having three cars the three teammates that's really going to help them throughout today jared thank you so much katie and just you know the drivers think they get familiar with the track oh guess what it changes it's changed from each day from thursday practice yesterday and then into today here is how our grid shapes up and here's our grid for heats race one on the front line you got number 41 scott speed from jamaica fraser mcconnell then you got a couple sweets there in row 2. timmy hanson and kevin hansen then in row 3 kevin erickson and from great britain liam doran and finally another swede is in the building oliver erickson there on the fourth row here we go then heat race number one speed versus mcconnell subaru have done a ton of testing on that car on the start some speed was pretty much unbeatable yesterday but mcconnell's had some good starts too managing to outdrag people down to turn one the two previous nitro rallycross winners on row two you cannot count out hanson and hanson they're on a great run of form this year the 10-second board has been out watch now to the start like gantry the lights have come on to tell them ready to race top right underneath the red ball branding there it is when that goes out random gap two to four seconds then we get sandy great start the car on the outside line stop being a good traction to hold that inside line kevin hansen side by side kevin erickson goes inside into the joker it is uh scott speed straight around to the outside not joker inside sorry my dad it's one of the peugeots timmy i think he is with uh in behind him kevin erickson it's got the [Music] verse honda so we've got timmy hanson up front kevin harrison scott speed that is your one two and three now going to that step up now remember this is lap one of five there's plenty of racing looking already dusty look at how aggressive these gentlemen are driving but bring it up the rear very surprisingly what do we got it's my bad it was ollie erickson the winning the joker three red bull color cards and a bit of dust but yeah my bad the two hanson's as well said timmy hansen leading from kevin erickson in p2 what's going to be key here what scott was saying is about adapting to the track old erickson's gone joker early he's hoping he's gonna adapt to the track quicker than these guys they're gonna be caught in a bit of a battle three-class split off to the right-hand side now so that is timmy hansen is he gonna respond and go joker straight away is he gonna go for the big hit again into the right watch for the car attitude and he's heading to the he's gone for the big hit going for the goal for the jump all right the red bull high flying over that big gap as timmy hansen erickson there in second and it looks like the tire bale is absolutely right in the way we saw a driver so when they go into that jump lane there is a tired pale right in the middle and timmy hanson still leading the pack a little love tap there's all right so timmy hansen continues on look at this 1.9 seconds the leaders of the pack the title is off hit the barrier on the inside oh man so here we are those tire barrel barrels are absolutely getting in the way but timmy hansen you know what he's like you guys do whatever you want behind me i'm gonna go ahead and get this clean air and get out of the way so i think strategy here is for timmy let's go hit that joker lap on that last lap yeah i think he'll stay out front as long as he possibly can he goes standard interestingly he looks like scott speed's gone for the low line we've barely seen anyone doing that so speed's gone for the low table top there's not a lot of difference in the reckon half a second kevin hansen flying yeah the rules flying up you can see the track starting to smooth out a bit there's scott the gap was 3.3 let's see whether or not it was a good move jared heading down to the low table top should get a gap now that's timmy hansen's transponder hasn't picked up he hasn't disappeared he's going down the order but he's just missed one of the loops there at the dirt yeah so unfortunately timmy hansen we're gonna we're gonna bump him back up as you said the transponder not talking look at this gap four seconds let's talk about the joker 4.2 i reckon maybe then speeds lying down through the through the low table top wasn't such a bad decision that might be scott as well remember the tie bells have moved slightly has he been out there and checked that lap jared because he can pass that information onto his teammates andreas backward uh travis pastrana as well and remind the fans here this is heat one this isn't the final one the top two advance correct directly to the finals as opposed as opposed to going to the semifinals remember ten racers there's four that are watching from the sidelines timmy hanson goes into the joke of that now he's on lap four or five he's saving uh just one lap left at the end in case he needs to defend hard big old lead for him this is absolutely perfect for timmy he's gonna see him on the front row frasier mcconnell just p2 where's scott speed what's up mia right now again from the top to the bottom right now timmy hansen to make it look easy look at that line that's a great line and just the course setup how they're navigating that coming off of that step up jump absolute disaster then for scot speed the battle bracket winner the guy who yesterday was so impressive has had some sort of issue and has dropped down to the back of the pack he's not showing up on the timing screens he's down as a dnf he's a lap to go and timmy hansen the 2018 champion might be booking a slot on the front row of the grid for the final i think scott speed knew his vehicle was compromised you need to get those top two spots and like you said earlier in the next cars save the vehicle don't put your team at what a stress load they need to be get the car right because he's gonna go to something and that might well be why he didn't take the gap jump jared as well too if he knew he already had a flat he wasn't going to take the gap i mean ken block did it but it's not a great idea in terms of looking after the car as you say impressive with timmy hansen ollie erickson who jokered on the first lap look he's up into p2 so olly erickson has made that work but frazier mcconnell has gone olly has made it up that was great tactics so it could be hanson and erickson it looks like yeah we are hearing that scott speed did repair a prop shaft earlier but uh with that flat that is not that is less than ideal so timmy hansen oliver erickson ooh wide swing here ken mcconnell come on grab the number two spot oh the door was open the door was wide but he couldn't strike so again top two advance automatically to the finals the remaining drivers will go to the 70s timmy hanson going to get front row going to be uh depends on who wins semi-final two whether he's inside or outside but hanson's there erickson go through to row two brilliant by them everybody else they're gonna have to come back out jared they're gonna go semi-finals they might even have to go to the lcq with scott speed i think the big drama there our fastest man has uh had a shocker in he won yeah he was he was a contender he was up in the fight it was a boxy match but timmy that smile number 21 the red bull vehicle will advance on with number two and that being oliver erickson of the oldsburgs team so this was lap one uh over the jump it was scott speed i got myself fully confused at the split down the terminal bro there are three there are two splits three lines here this tracks wild we know that so ollie erickson uh kevin erickson's always on the inside of scott speed watch for later in the lap because he hits that tyre stack doesn't he right towards the last turn i love that step up look at that step up jump look how good kevin's line was into here as well now how close is he to timmy if we got it on the drone here have a look at this maybe not who was it that hit the tire bale right out of the gate i believe it was liam right yeah so this was kevin in fact he'd gone before so we had the long shot from the front we saw the dust come up we hadn't seen he dropped it on the break look in the background here how close to the tire is there for kevin hansen and also for frasier that's not easy when the dust is like this they're trying to cite it and get the car set up brilliant win for timmy hassan straight through to the front row gonna depend who wins this second races to who gets the poll though so hanson and erickson advance into the finals remaining drivers will go to the semifinals and of course after that lcq overall 14 entries this weekend and the judges actually won this is under review the launch the start what happened here what transpired looks like scott speed got into mcconnell a little bit as both of them go for that joker lap yeah they headed out to the right and then they can split as we said this is where i got confused as well jared it's like you know they split and then they quit liam's in the door who's he in the door of in the dirt was it kevin he got inside of a vehicle but did he turn in it's not liam just plowing him let's take a look at it again nobody jumped the start for me sometimes you see and if they had it done in theory they would have reset immediately so in the background yeah watching liam yeah you can see liam doran here in that back position and now diving in it is one of the red bull vehicles was that hanson uh it's hard to see isn't it the red deliveries uh dear red bull please uh mix up deliveries if it's ollie then he went right now into the joke in the background yeah it was ollie erickson so from that distance it's so hard to tell isn't it yeah all right so ollie erickson gets into it gets an entire bale and that punched it out into the track it was an obstacle through the entirety of the race because that wouldn't even we weren't even into a first lap before uh we saw the calamity it didn't look malicious no it just looked like a racing incident i mean i think unless with something we've missed off screen here i don't think anyone was close enough in the back of kevin to peek him around and the liam incident to be honest with you he's not gone through so it doesn't make any difference jared what they're gonna do give him a five-second penalty make any difference yeah no it's john he's gonna be back later it's over so this is the top two to the final timmy hansen oliver erickson advance to the final those are your two winners out of heat's race one we're getting set here for heath's race two the remaining driver seven overall there's that hundred foot jump as we are getting ready as kidnapping real quick we're about to throw down what we got what do we got timmy hansen it was not easy for slouch on row two or twelve so only bennett with a good performance to be row two in this one great launch pastrana not so good for our been only been it's gone forwards and tana passed it all the way to the back of the pack down towards town while pastrana goes inside faust winning backward look on the inside of town of foust that's right inside already bennett he's got him so he gets many contacts in the background it's the two subaru's leading three cars out to the right hand side we'll see if any go joker but at the minute it's pastrana from backward backward the big winner there he's up two rows nice job over that tabletop jump so look at this the tabletop being utilized this is as you said a formula that none of the drivers are going for that big up takes that joker lap as pastrana is leading the fact with the clean here andrea's back roots in a second subaru one and two yeah ollie bennett getting beaten up in the background there another bit of contact not quite sure who was in behind him it might be the last it might be bowser tonight looks like his bounce lasts he looks to get passed becomes off the back of this pack because he's the only driver who joking so 8.4 off we think it's about five he's gonna put him in the mix but maybe not to go straight through top two go through but stronger wants it pastrana definitely wants it he's feeling he's feeling the flow he's done a lot of momentum yesterday getting second place overall in the bracket battles pastrana back route one and two looks like we got a couple drivers going for that joker lap as well [Music] the outside line the couple to the inside it's uh it is pastrana who's gone low again backwards going for the high jump for ollie bennett going in with him so interesting tactics from kastrana to go low both times on the first flap jarrod i totally get it basically most drivers are going to go out wide because if they know they can't get you on the inside corner you're going to go to the wide line look what happened with leon door dolly erickson you get a bit of carnage so the safe bet on lap one is go inside defend the line and take the table top that's what these guys did and put them in a good position bigger from the joker up to p4 i think there's a great strategy and communication that my bad sorry the timing screen's wrong biggum's down in p7 there we go all right so again i think there was some great communicator scott speed saying hey let's try out the stable top let's see what goes on this is the time to do it don't do in the finals find out what's quicker right now so they got their stopwatches they're utilizing all of them so pastrana's still up front arkansas and second back route they're in third tanf house did hit that yokohama tire joker lap by the way backward almost alongside arpan in the background are been coming up with some serious pressure now from the norwegian they go in on the low line again so pastrana's gone low on this whole thing i reckon they know that there's a decent lap time in it maybe something has changed with where the tires are he comes up into the burn pastrana wears off in and backwards looking for the inside line but that corner is still pretty lumpy backwards just can't find a way through watch for the breaking zone here this could be a good chance yeah yeah too far back as pastrana is uh looks like he's figuring this thing out like a rubik's cube he's he's playing a different formula these guys are playing chess he's playing checkers the background liam door in case he's the jump behind his teammate robin larson pastrana with a good lead over up him backward runs a bit too deep and the dirt is going to cost him some time he wants to close that gap down to our pin now it's going to come down to joker tactics jared they're coming on to that four or five so if our pin and backward now's the time to do it i think pastrana will go to the end unless he's feeling nervous he's going to the end oh none of them are gone joker bad decision in my opinion you should have split the strategy just in case all right so pastrana out front the formula here hitting that table top once again we have not seen these guys hit the big jump at all in this heat so again like i said are they are they playing checkers are they playing chess this is just it's really interesting how pastrana we haven't seen him earlier jared about really you should split the strategy look what happened yesterday when timmy's car broke in the joker you could compromise yourself you never know what's going to happen in that hasn't been in a rallycross car in quite some time i gotta tell you he's looking really good backfoot was struggling to turn into the left-hander going into the tunnel so i wonder if he's got something wrong front right but castrana took the win great drive by him steve harpin equally impressed his first time out in his car goes through to row two of the final there's the result four point two seconds back for steve up in pastrana in the 199 that is so familiar to his fans all around the world takes it and will be on pole with timmy hansen alongside him on row one for the final later on today so fast backward bennett big and larson they're all gonna go again last thing was a dnf in the end so we're still seeing some issues with these guys we're gonna have to have to tidy up four drivers aren't gonna make it chad you know two are gonna go through i think the other thing is the next race is gonna be five cars so you can maybe play it a bit safer than when there's seven seven is a competitive field but remember later ten in the final ten in the finals the most we're going to see here this weekend it just builds up ramps up literally up uh up here on this that really done him there and what were you learning no we didn't know until the first heat i was so glad we that we didn't go first because scott went outside and uh it was slower so we'll probably we've been trying to adjust that line all week so it gets closer um unfortunately we want the jump line to be faster but um being on the inside arpan got the jump on me so that's really the only reason i went in and i think it worked out well it absolutely paid off for you what were a few other things that you could take to your teammates because right now the fact that you guys have each other is going to put you guys ahead no it's awesome and unfortunately i don't know exactly what happened to uh scott we were getting in our cars but um you know him and timmy are probably the class of the field and i'm just really excited i'm so pumped for arpan though i mean he's like the you know he's country boy he's awesome and just so happy to be here i'm so pumped to be here and for us to go one two out of the heat youtube stronger who lifted more this winter i did i was stronger i was very focused on his muscles trying to look good you know you're focused on your brother's muscles oh he was oh you were focused his face but but i i need you to relax man i know we got number 199 travis pastrana in the building i'm a squat i gave you my stool because you need a rest we're right here all right here we go travis we talked about this off camera you took a different line you didn't take the jump we want to see the jump but you found out that the tabletop is faster yeah so we kind of found that out in the first uh in the first heat when my teammate unfortunately scott speed went to the outside uh that's been faster all week we moved one of the tires by six feet uh but instead of a kind of a chicane it's just uh you know you kind of got to check up so uh probably slowed that line by about three tenths of a second on the other line and man so kind of wearing a couple hats the track guys are like get off the bobcats get off your stuff um all the officials are like stop trying to change the format so i just been driving but um at the end of the day i think we got to change that back just a little bit before the final maybe get a hot lap or something so the guys can test it but at the end of the day we need the jump to be a little faster right yeah i mean the jump is exciting it's a 100 foot gap and that's what it's all for and you you love doing it but coley any questions i know you're talking about i don't think i don't think it needs to be a little bit faster you need to be equal i want to see people taking both you know my favorite shot from 19 is that one with this there's two on the top and three in the middle if the problem is if they're equal on the bottom and the top that means the the jump is is probably about a second faster um so we need the tail end of the jumper or the the unders going in the front guys the first thing this is what i love about travis basically he's the only dude who basically is so involved in his own championship yeah look at look at this we can see the footage here of you heading down on the low line scott did a record did he uh yes we got we had two laps but um no one really because we took off in the beginning so we didn't have a fair chair at it um this they tried to make sure that that was um nice and not dusty but it actually dug in pretty hard so um you know there's still a lot that we can do to make this track better yesterday it raced absolutely amazing but when you sweep it off it's just too dusty so um you know definitely a safety comes in into effect and it's weird wearing three hats here i want i want i'm so happy to be qualified first but i also want the racing just to be freaking awesome uh the rest of these tracks are amazing this moon dust here in utah is very difficult to work with but we got the best of business down there making it happen it was interesting the the last lap was one two and three on the on that yokoma tire joker lab you all took it i'm gonna call you out i think you're sandbagging you had so many interviews with katie osborne and i'm hearing oh travis isn't good it starts good it starts you're killing the stars you're absolutely getting out of the gate and you know what that's been scott speed so scott speed has worked with the engineers and said you know what we can have the best car everywhere else but if we can't get off the line it is like a space shuttle launch i mean we actually have a simulator built so i can like sit there and try to figure out how to do all the buttons and not mess it up i still almost stalled yesterday you guys harping but uh i'm getting better i had a lot of seat time this year so this is the first time i haven't been like a gentleman driver i'm coming in as like a real racer this year he's coming in as the ara rally champion yeah i mean i reckon that's why there's so much gravel out here not doing any tar although mount washington you know i mean we are killing all the surfaces no it's been a lot of fun had a lot more practice with the gymkhana car i mean you know 150 more horsepower than even these cars have more downforce and just when you scare yourself so much in mount washington you kind of come here and you're like okay i can i can handle this dude i peed a little watching that dude i was just in at home and watching a lot doing it i know dude i'll get away from you so it's not major tom it's major travis he's launching the space shuttle speed speaking of another subaru space shuttle scott speed is with katie osborne now katie that is a space shuttle indeed scott speed has had a a go at it today already uh breaking a prop shaft and now a couple of other issues here walk us through what that last uh heat was uh well we took the normal line and evidently that's a lot slower today because they changed the track on us so i got passed by two guys and so the second lap surprisingly they didn't take the inside line so i took that and i passed the erickson kid i don't remember which one it is and then we went to the hairpin he torpedoed me he broke my suspension and then when i followed him in the last corner i couldn't steer so i ended up hitting into them uh i couldn't avoid them because the front suspension was broken and so i just found they gave us a penalty for that so maybe he gets penalty too but in either case we start the semi-final from pole i believe so we just need to now take the inside of the track and avoid the jump so these guys are also talking about track time and getting behind the wheel you know last time you had an experience here in 2019 it wasn't what you would have want how have you kind of overcome that ptsd that's an interesting way to put it yes breaking your back is not plan a uh but yeah it's i think it's something you just work with every day you know it gets all you can do is try to uh you know focus and have a good mindset out there and i'm trying to do that and i think i feel better and better every day that i'm out here that's what's really counting around here i know travis up there in the booth what do you have to say to him right now after that last one he did so good he drove so good out there i'm really proud of him he executed well our cars are fast i'm super pumped that he's gonna have front rope all right guys that's what this is all about we've driver he's been doing everything everything right and yep you know the little track adjustment we gave we had practice but we just weren't able to figure out exactly the time difference so it's one of those things you you figure out and uh yeah scott he's going to be there him and timmy are pretty much the class of the field but we're going to do everything we can proud dad of you he's like he did so good he did so good i'm going to throw today i'm not quite that level but i'm getting there i want to be we got a drone shot of your entire first lap here we're having a hard time decipher you're down on the ground i mean you know goalie and i are like where who what dude this is awesome so that first turn the inside is so slick so hard to hit now this right here you can kind of scandy flick it over i actually hit the inside right there um i like to be sideways there but uh it was a little runny yesterday so we had a couple the uh sometimes it's hard to keep the tires on this corner is gonna be awesome it was the best passing yesterday uh with that low that top line hasn't come in it's kind of like nascar when you're trying to get everything to come in the right way um this next corner the jump if you downside it it's so hard to get to that inside you can see right there my teammate doing an awesome job if he wasn't my teammate i think backroad would have just parked me over top of that berm so i definitely appreciate that um this is also another great passing spot timmy got me there yesterday um if you charge it a little too hard uh it's really blue groove and slick you almost go off that jump um but if you come in too slow someone just fires right up inside so so many passing opportunities which makes it for everyone to be pretty equal out there as far as until you can get a gap yeah um it's anyone's ball game and you're talking about the blue groove traditionally the blue groove is about grip why is it so different here i mean it's it and it's getting really ready i mean it looks like the surface of mars yesterday it was it's got a lot of holes no with that without a doubt i mean that's we we've got the best track in the world but it is so difficult to get anything to stick it's this dirt is is so tough uh we're going next weekend is actually the best dirt in the world in minnesota um the widest track it's we got 160 foot jump on it so it's i'm really excited but you know what right now this is probably when it's groomed correctly when you get the water into it this is the most fun video game course in the world i mean you saw timmy and i going back and forth yesterday just i mean we were a little i'm sorry i was a little aggressive he passed me every time super clean and i i used him eight wheels is better than traction than four yeah there's something so you've got you've got a new deal recently you know we're driving a bunch of different cars right now you know it's cool uh yeah i've i've had the opportunity now to work with several different manufacturers i'm racing a subaru and rally we just announced a big deal a multi-year deal with audi um so i'm doing a lot of uh work with them on the electric vehicle side uh and it's very cool so i'm really stoked to be able to work with these manufacturers to me uh that you know are the heritage of rally i i've got a theory that you just like to work with lots of different manufacturers so you can go and increase that collection of amazing rally cars which rally car do i want now yeah yeah well i actually got to drive uh walter rawls you know sport quattro you know s1 e2 over in germany recently and you know stuff like that's just a dream come true so yeah you know why i am a rally driver is because i was a fan first you know and and that's really the deal so i get to go out and do these things and work with these amazing companies and yeah it's incredible so who knew that internet video would get you here oh thanks just discard all my talents wow really i know i know it's fun to push just an internet video gives you all your talent all joking aside sitting here watching this being a dad watching your daughter race seeing you know your peers you've been out on this course before are you chomping at the bit and saying gosh i wish i could be there are you kind of like i'll see you next year what's going through your mind uh you know the track is what i missed the most the last two years that i was here i was in cars i wasn't that happy with and you know arpan did a great job with what he was given and uh we just didn't have the ideal thing to go win so you know i enjoy coming to these tracks i would love to go do that jump again but i you know when i do this i want to do it in the best possible equipment so you know that's that's where the frustrating thing of being a race car driver comes along and you know when they announced what they were doing this year we just didn't have you know the time or or budget to put something together but hopefully we can sometime in the future see tennis there's a chance [Laughter] i still love it i'm back to racing rally really full time and that's where i've started and that's what i truly love the most i enjoy rallycross but nothing compares to stage rallies alex is here this weekend isn't he co-driving of course rihanna and his wife joe samina is uh travis's co-driver they just won ar rave was it good was it good battling with those guys uh yeah i i mean i i missed the first event i uh i started the second abandoned in a skoda and then ended up with subaru for the rest of the year so for me it wasn't a level playing field but it was fun do you know what i mean so i i enjoy racing with travis um and and brennan uh seminic and uh and the gels aminos it's we have a great time it's uh incredible series and and uh the subaru's actually you know an incredible car for it so and there's some good competition so we have a lot of fun but alex just you know lives up the road in idaho so drove down great weekend uh to come out for and yeah so i love it yeah i like this i like race dad i like race dad ken you're really you're really good i don't even shave this one yeah full team always liked the dirt i like the jumps you know we grew up in the paddock our father have raised since you know before we were born before we were even thought of i got a full seat in in the lights and just uh yeah kept going right across from there ended up winning the x games uh in my first rallycross race and from there just kind of fell in love with the sport of rallycross i was the youngest to ever win rather jamaica and that's when things kind of took off and we really started pushing for this the dream [Music] the start 0-60 in under 2 seconds going into the biggest change from last year we have an inside line or an outside line hopefully this is going to make the field a lot more spread out a lot less carnage but there is a hairpin at the end of that long outside left lane both lanes inside and outside are within a tenth of a second really good chicane right through here coming up to the best roller coaster you'll ever see 130 feet to the sweet spot all the lanes come back together merging into the talladega right you can cut that a little bit tight and then go over the bump to the inside super fun feels like a just a awesome roller coaster ride all the way around into a big old jump right here you have the option to kind of stay and hug that tire or use a little bit of the berm on the outside this is a big difference from last year we're staying on the pavement keeping a little bit more speed should make for some great pass in this left-hand corner there's a berm on the outside or you can hug the inside both are equally as quick coming down it gets really narrow going right across this finish line and that is a lap of nitro rallycross round one all right so we are seeing see kevin erickson uh mysteriously goes around scott's uh oh he's pretty close love it it's crazy well guess what katie went right to the source to kevin erickson the exact quote from scott speed was that you torpedoed him in that last heat what's your side of the story kevin yeah i guess i wonder who we should call the torpedo but i'm not surprised he's got speed i'm racing and he's one of the worst races i i know so sadly that's that's the story uh he you know he jumps too long outbreaks himself i am perfect break you know side to side gets him in the hairpin and he just absolutely takes me out in the next corner all the stewards in the yard you see that he's excluded i'm not so i think we see all the facts and as you take those facts into into the next heats here what are some of the things you've learned now over the last couple times you've been on track this weekend i mean the track is awesome yes it's a little bit dusty it's hard to race uh but you know everything went well uh kind of surprised here the track the you know changing so so quick so you never know which line is the quickest but yeah i was in a really good position there and you know should have been already done for the final but i guess we gotta work hard in semi now instead kevin erickson does have his work cut out for him today but the good news is as we've been talking about this guys he has teammates here and that's a big big thing for them uh shots fired kevin scott had words kevin had words i heard worst race car driver don't sit on the fence you know don't sit on the fence well guess what here we are the semi-finals and here's who we have scott speed aka torpedo frazier mcconnell oliver arson he's had some stuff talked so scott and kevin it was one all yeah kevin made an interesting point he said scott was excluded i wasn't but the post-race penalty makes no difference and scott's back on row one here so here we go again scott speed versus frasier mcconnell on row two bennett's on the inside he'll get a great start with the engine in that mini but i reckon kevin erickson is going to be keen to be as close as he can to scott remember the low line we know he's quickest at the minute so are we going to see all five drivers peel off to the left-hand side ready to race lights on speed versus mcconnell on the run to term one but watch for erickson from row two great start scott speed on the inside line moves across trying to put fraser mcconnell out why kevin adson are heading towards the back of scott speed phrase mcconnell slots in contact between bennett in the background larson's gone out around the outside bennett's got a half spin he's on the tie wall speed leads from frasier mcconnell kevin erickson trying to get there kevin erickson his sights are set on scott speed and here we go for that lower table top line they said was faster i have to believe that the officials are going to change up the line but look at that flying high and really airing out one of the monster vehicles larson around the outside oh two wheels he jumped so long jared it was a proper air traffic control job again larson took that jump line where these guys were squabbling he's made up time he's inside kevin erickson here gonna make a joke [Music] between them we are seeing an absolute tussle this is what we love to see remember the top two move on to the finals only this isn't the finals just yet scott speed up front fresh mcconnell in second a lot of accolades in his corner now kevin erickson he is fighting for it but look you can see he's battered bruce let's continue on with this oliver bennett not part of the equation he didn't take that joker left but larson he is fighting for it dude larson oh last never looked at the inside line on kevin kevin's gone white so kevin's gone for the long line i can only think he's gonna go joking because we know the gap jump isn't quicker so now lastly he's up in p3s that jump was so long on the table job and then so long on the step up last and he's in full scene mode this is what he's known for all right there is erickson as he takes that yokohama tires joker lap goes under the bridge where he drew some blood and now coming popping out underneath let's see where he lands again scott speed way out front frazier mcdonald second he's got all jamaica cheering him on again yeah i was trying to see how far back kevin erickson was it's a fair old gap at the minute if it's about five seconds of doubt lasting there mr gear under perfect 6.1 so he's got some work to do to get on the back the problem is really it's not about getting them back to last it's about getting on the back of mcconnell mcconnell's close the gap down to speed two times tighter than he was you know larson is really chomping at the bit like you said just get those top two spots speed he's got the clean air he's feeling confident he just saw his teammate travis and strong to take that line and that is the faster line as it stands got to be really whipping around keeping it tight in that first turn lassen coming in backwards in the background there scott speed's all tidy included points here dude he needs a full set medal doesn't he [Music] they're gonna have to split strategies you see mcconnell almost up on two wheels digging in three drivers only two laps left someone's gonna miss out for turning on the joker it's tight and this is very reminiscent of what we just saw finish out with travis pastrana in that first heat and uh we saw one two and three none of them have taken on the map just like i say that erickson does oh here it goes absolutely casing that thing around the outside larson's gone joker this time so larson's gone joke he's gonna have to bang in a canal try and get greater mcconnell crazy mcconnell will know the spotless say larson's gone you've got to push big time to go for the job oh no way was he done changing things up larson absolutely airing that thing out that's a disaster he's left himself no option on that was that was absolutely the wrong thing to do he's got no option that's a mistake you know who's stoked on that and that's mcconnell chris mcconnell fresh is absolutely stoked but look he's getting some ground where did all his speed come from that's the point so he's got more speed than mcconnell if he gone joker he could have closed him down now he sat himself back in the traffic the gap jump was not the way to go so i don't know if larson got the call and then decided different kevin front right okay there we go front uh we've got a fender wrapper there's one of the headlights actually on the front of the console another example of the spot is needing to wake up a bit to the tactics here that's a missed opportunity for larson all right scott speed going in he should be hitting the joker lap one two and three all of them jumping in here and like you said larson taking a less than ideal strategy let's see how they come out under the bridge nice well done by both mcconnell and obviously scott speed out front he started out front top two advanced to the finals top two advance you're gutted robin mentions me this morning [Music] you said about the train and how many stops were left there's one station left he's falling asleep on the train and he's gonna be coming to lcq town and scott speed you know what the best revenge is getting the win scott speed gets the win he's gonna be joining travis pastrana his other super teammate now only if andrea's back route can join them but you know what jamaica's stoked right now you're making me crazy mr mcconnell gets that number two spot he's in the final as well well done by scott speed again a proud dad of travis now scott speed delivers himself speed and mcconnell let's take a look at it again we talked about travis pastrana i think he's sandbagging i'm not good at start and then he gets up but he gets that credit to scott speed speed's done all that testing we've said it so many times jared haven't we about particularly about the start really interesting what travis said wasn't it we have the best car on the track everywhere but if we don't win the start and the rally across the start is critical and they've been just banging them out time and time again whatever they've done the subaru starts on that was that was really good it was all about the fight for second right i mean between eriksen you know he battered every single panel uh mcconnell looked good but i mean mcconnell looks so solid jump past there from larson on on the run into here yeah it's brilliant but yeah larson had to pay for me only a little bit over mcconnell mcconnell didn't have to respond because he's in front he's got track position but when larson didn't go joking jared i i just i'll be i'll be staggered if that isn't a mistake pow right there that's uh boom goes the dynamite for erickson and maybe maybe driving angry you know he's back there fourth you know third kind of in this tussle and overdriving the car talk about overdriving luxon there was so much air between obviously that vehicle and the ground and uh longest jump of the weekend i reckon seriously i think it might have been he but that's the beauty i mean what travis is saying he'll adjust the tires so that it's a bit closer but what larson did he's he's gone up there he's not hit the limiter in fourth he's hit the limit to like maybe another cog maybe another subaru took it 200 rpm and he nearly got them it nearly paid off you're gonna have some strong words with this spotter i am having yeah i'm gonna say the strongly worded what's that yeah i said good day i said good day and uh race control wants to take a look at the lcq so it was larsen you know with your money or something here is that that split doesn't just lead to the joker the split leads to the joker travis had in his mind but to see the reality was amazing comes the next evolution in motorsports this is our super bowl this is our daytona 500 our stanley cup playoff game spectacular purpose-built courses we decided to build one of the wildest tracks ever [Applause] blew my mind that i tried to be this insane huge jumps when we showed up and we saw the scale of the jump it was awesome the gap was huge wow it's like they're launching out of a machine gun i was honestly scared like are we really gonna jump over this massive gap bumper to bumper short racing the world's best drivers and drama at every turn this is literally the best the wildest rallycross in [Music] so despite losing the start these two are squabbling they've got to be careful they're going to get their side by side jump here maybe over the big hit amazing that is what travis was hoping for and they feed extreme into the turn and he's got him here we go hanson now takes over first position timmy answers the 26 year old nrx is here a new championship across multiple rounds in north america and it all came from the mind of this man travis pastrana what do i love most about rally well competition i love competition whether it's foosball or pit bikes or motocross i love to be competitive i want to be able to fly i want to be able to slide and rallycross was the closest thing to what i loved but i still thought the drivers could be challenged more the cars can be challenged more the crowd can be more entertained and that's why we started national rallycross travis pastrana is the epitome of living on the edge he did have to take a brief intermission after that last run because he chipped his tooth and pushing limits his determination to showcase what these cars can really do was the catalyst to the birth of nrx for me i think what's going to scare most people is the jump i mean there's a jump over a jump over a tunnel so there's a chance that three drivers will be over top of each other at one time which is pretty mind-blowing for most car racers but i think the coolest part is going to be the outsides are pretty much huge bench corners like talladega and the insides are flat so you just slide in the car so hopefully it'll allow a lot more opportunity to pass a lot more opportunity for good racing without having to follow the same line in 2018 travis and his team set to work designing the ultimate track at the utah motorsports campus that included a 100-foot plus gap jump i believe that if you're an f1 driver if you're an emit driver um if you're a world rally driver you want to drive rallycross but the tracks haven't challenged the vehicles they haven't challenged the drivers enough to get them over and i want every track to be different i want one track to be snow and ice one track to be seen one track to be dusty yeah it's not ideal race conditions let's see who powers through let's have big jumps at this track and small jumps on this track let's have off cameras this track and burns this track let's challenge the drivers if the drivers are excited we found out a nitro circus like if the riders are excited the crowd's excited the world held its breath for the first nitro rally cross with the likes of world rallycross championship stars such as matthias extra and timmy hansen battling against domestic rally icons like ken block and tanner faust extra started the main event on pole but it was the swede timmy hanson who took the first title we joked early great strategy and every lap i was able to close the gap the win today feels incredible niger world games gold it wasn't long before nitro rallycross became the big attraction on the worldwide rallycross calendar in 2019 henson's younger brother kevin who had previously watched timmy from the pit lanes took to the track to win the second ever nitro rallycross title [Music] then a global pandemic struck derailing last year's plans and so nrx will relaunch in 2021 and a global audience will witness a highly competitive championship with five stops that spread right across north america from utah to minnesota to arizona california and florida this year nycha rally crosses a proper championship i mean we had two one-off events we learned a lot from each of those we believe that now is the time we can get the best in the world we're going to have the best teams we're going to have the best cars towards the closing stages of round one of nitro rallycross 2021 first round of a five round series we've got an lcq still to come o'reilly's auto parts you see the arch down there in the paddock we've got fans down there they've been down at the pit viper happier they're heading back towards the grandstands now and jared closing stages of what's been a great first weekend oh my gosh it's i mean it's been absolutely tremendous here just seeing great weather uh seeing the racers show up in grand fashion you know the sierra cars that's a demo for this year or excuse me for this round then uh next car just the progression you know slowly moving up 550 horsepower 200 horsepower 300 horsepower 600 horsepower in this corner with the supercars just progressively just being absolutely exciting so as uh as we're getting set here for that o'reilly auto parts lcq so down to katie osborne who do you got we got timmy hanson and he's a guy who's actually been working hard on trying to get this car back together he and the team it's been a couple of gremlins an oil leak that kind of took them out earlier yesterday in fact uh what's the status of the car now well yeah it was uh in in the crash when i hit the wall uh in the battle with with travis at the end there so then i i hit the concrete wall with the front and it smashed all the pieces in and we had an oil leak so guys have been working all night and you know really an incredible job to get the car back because we didn't have a spare engine to put in so it's like it's not a hundred percent but it's 99 you know three to four tries we'll see if it'll work out in the track but what i loved was your mom was telling me you were still all smiles coming away from that race with travis how much fun are you actually having out there yeah like the race with travis was it was just insane it was like one of the best battles in a very long time like the track got to its best and the cars and like everything like we swapped places every corner uh so it was it was super cool then i got a puncture uh so so that's why i was running slow on that second lap and we had like a tiny bit of contact with the front puncture it was impossible for me to save it and end it in the wall then it didn't feel too good you know uh i was happy about the race but but you know this uh yeah the result was not great so it was good to fight back in the heat race and now now is only the final left to me you mentioned the final there could be another battle between you and travis what's it gonna take today yeah i have one up on him i guess we'll let you get to this lcq to go watch your brother guys thank you so much katie timmy hansen got a smile on his face and that's the sign of somebody who says like all right and i'm in the finals i'm in contention of being on the box those guys had to work so hard jared they took four attempts to fix something on the oil cooler also i'm not sure timmy said but they have the car they strapped it to a container and used a forklift truck to straighten out the front yesterday proper old school yeah kenneth was like this is what we have to do when we're on long haul and in fact it was subaru motorsport usa who welded up something for them to help fix the oil killer and that's a sign i think of camaraderie yeah rallycross paddocks are awesome you know don't get me wrong if they were coming to the final they're like oh dude we haven't got time sorry man so you're saying that speed is going to go help kevin erickson right now no i don't think that's going to okay i don't think that's going to happen got it the love is run it runs so deep it's it's emotional let's say the panic's emotional right and uh yeah i mean overall it's it's been tremendous but uh as we are seeing our lcq get set and and how we got here is it really started yesterday with the new format you know single qualifying going into bracket battles then coming into today we're seeing our you know our heat going into heat one semi-final next stop o'reilly auto parts lcq but the strategy has changed into today how did that come to be like what do you think it's the thing yesterday you know we spoke yesterday about jokers and i think actually was a really cool way if you new to rallycross of learning how that works you know the other guy jokers do you respond immediately do you think he's faster or do you not then we saw a couple of people get mugged by somebody doing a sly joker and going i've got the whole shot and i joked that's unusual and i wonder if we might see that in the o'reilly's auto parts last chance qualifier it's only three laps jared and i think that the tactics could change against you haven't got that long to close a dude down in terms of doing the lap times i i reckon maybe maybe get the whole shot go to the joker but we'll see that's just quickly expediting getting down to brass tacks right just and just getting it done uh we're seeing some fans stream in here thank you so much again utah the state of sport utah sports commission for uh allowing us and having us be here i mean this is the birthplace of nitro rallycross you know back in 2019 and then obviously kicking off in 2018. so an exciting time here it's it's hot and directly in the sun we got to you know we got the jamaican cheering squad over there cheering on their driver mcconnell and hashtag go nitro as kind of a little calm before the storm theoretically as we are seeing here and just a beautiful day overall what what kind of expectations did you have coming here into uh into round one of five that's what's awesome i i had an expectation that we might see a different approach to it jared because before it was like this blue ribbon event where you get all the drivers from the american series and all the drivers from the european world to come together on one day to win a big trophy yeah and so it's like i don't care that you can penalize me i won't be back next weekend i'll do what i want in turn one now it's like the stewards can go look you know you're on the naughty boys we've been having an interesting chat about the fact a couple of people been told off for their races in heat races but actually there's no real penalty because they then go on for the next one i wouldn't be surprised to see a little rule change there you know we're going to see some developments i'm know you've you've worked with him on jim carla great he's a great kid and of course you've got travis pastrana and they're a factory team which just means everything's cool yeah they've got cool haulers and they've got you know and they've done well they've got all three and backward he really needed to make the final because if he's going to be here for all the rounds he needs to be in the mix for the championship if subaru can see that they'll spend the dollars and go we need to keep him in here if he's if he's behind pastrana and speed i think that's maybe not going to be the case it's expensive yeah and you know the dry reinbold team which we've seen them just over the years you know in different rallycross championships it's great to see them and uh you know cabot bingham i had some words with him uh you know it's it's been it's been announced and uh you know it really comes down to uh you know just the progression of it you know talking about you know next talking about supercars and also uh e cars as well race control we've been looking at this incident jarrod so i believe it's cabo bigam at the back of the pack is it that they're they're not so happy about on the outside line so you've got liam doran and then you've got vegan but i can't see i can't really see a lot going on there this is faustin and uh backward on the inside so there we want so this is this is actually our replay machines and you're seeing live now what race control is in i can't see i can't see anything jared there's nothing here for for me to make adjustment does he take he doesn't tap into the back of anyone i don't get it no he's not even involved might have been a transition actually the start looked clean this might be from camera two on the far side so maybe this would give us by scott going joker on the first lap so kevin lifted to try and go joker didn't lost half a second and then the gap was only 3.4 because of that he couldn't close down on speed so kevin will be aware of that remember that was a three-lap run it was in battle qualifying i i if i were kevin i'd want to back everyone up who's behind me so i might park it on the apex just for a second and then go but that relies on the other cars not having gone on the alternate laptop really tough strategy yeah and they'll have a strategy meeting but look we've heard this quote a ton of times everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face and that's what happens in term one there's timmy hanson now uh where are we are we in there garage because i'll get they'll be having a power wow kenneth susan the parents and timmy and kevin graham rodermark kevin spotter who was say four different things they tried to fix timmy's oil cooler and it's just because they don't have the part you know they put as drivers went through to rows one and two so hanson and pastrana they're from the two different heats handsome one he won of course scott speed was your top qualifier but because he didn't win then it came down to a tie break between timmy and travis now travis had qualified second timmy had qualified fifth so travis get pole there's row one row two erickson half in row three scott speed and backwards they won their semi-final p2 in their semi-finals mcconnell and foust the lcq that purple bracket at the bottom that's the six drivers looking to take the two spots over on the right hand side yeah absolutely exciting here are the o'reilly auto parts lcq what's it stand for last chance qualifier six vehicles only two will advance who is it going to be we are seeing there on the front row oliver bennett and kevin hanson and you got kevin erickson and liam doran and then finishing out the all p1 on that right on that right side receiving the left side drivers left about robin larson and kevit bigham there in that final role we've seen last he's been quick today haven't we but from the back row there's going to be a tough gig jared it's gonna turn one tactics are really critical the one advantage they have from the back of the pack is seeing what choices other people make so from the front obviously you've got the advantage of being there but you don't know what everyone's doing behind you last thing we'll see along with big and what pans out if everybody goes one way i reckon they'll go the alternate way all right as kevin erickson makes his way you see that race tape being put in put into effect but uh speaking kevin erickson it looks like katie osborne has caught up with him yeah as kevin's climbing into the car you can see his goal right now is to get through turn one clearly he said hey look i know we have the speed i know what we have what it we know what what it takes as he was the 2019 winner he said but what we have to avoid are punctures he said also his buddy kevin erickson is directly behind him and he said i sure hope he behaves he's a good friend of mine but racing is racing so he knows what it takes and it's a guy who wants to get it done teammate there as well they were both in the beatles and he took a couple of events to find his feet and then we got to canada and he was great so yeah don't count him out and i'm not calling him out here this is tough these are the fastest pretty much among the fastest race cars in the world and he's had to jump from one into the other tanner will be helping guide him with things like settings changes but he's on a learning curve too ollie bennett here is on row two in the mini that car starts really well with its people engine so could you know could we you got two brits the british are coming um you know could we see one of them make it through but but kevin hansen on front you know no rear gunner no one to to protect each six and eric since erickson's hungry erickson again he showed his teeth shots were fired between him and scott's feet some words were expressed and what did you think of kevin's past i don't think kevin's past was that hard i know scott doesn't like a hard pass to be fair most of them don't the theory is you put a hard pass on someone it's okay yeah you get done by a half past oh i don't like it so he didn't like it and then he said he couldn't you know keeping the tires underneath the vehicle uh three three laps this new found strategy opening up pandora's box and saying all right the table top's the fastest you know here we are you know even setting the table methodically but uh kevin hansen he he he's he seems like the guy who's going to advance on i mean if if spades has spade kevin hanson seems like he's going to take it to the top i i i really love how exciting doran doran and bennett are but uh excuse the door and larson but uh i think kevin hansen being the defending champion most recently not being already in the finals this is a big surprise kevin i think is is your favorite to go through of the six drivers if you were going to bet on which one would go through that's fine it's p2 that's interesting i'll tell you what's really interesting ollie bennett on the front row now you know to be fair to ollie he will know the depth of talent behind him if he gets a good start here jared and keeps that mini wide and it's already pretty wide for a minute you have to go extra flared on the arches and just try and keep everybody behind him he needs a good start the car is known for that so he's probably in in the best group position compared to where we thought he might be blasting door and erickson wow though you know you can't call this wide open only two with only three laps yeah the o'reilly auto parts lcq the plot thickens only two will move on out of the six on the front row and we talk about hanson and bennett and uh katie what's up we're gonna talk again about kevin hansen and he says he's taking the long way he's pulled here in lcq but the team was actually working on a drive shaft right before this they got that dust out of the cockpit and he said that car he feels is ready for a tough three laps again knowing his buddies are kind of right around him thank you so much katie as we are getting prepared the 10-second card six vehicles only two advance who's going to be watching from the grandstands after this is over that is the big ask here coley hanson bennett erickson door and larson biggum here we go then is bennett gonna pull off a great start and out drag kevin down jump at the back i reckon for robin last night might be wrong but robin larson i think went early we'll have to see what the students think if not it's an absolute banger of start straight up the inside of kevin erickson inside lap then he's kevin hanson robin larson and kevin erickson doran's gone around the outside let's see whether or not they go joker straight to wade ollie bennett goes joker doran's gone jump so doran's gone for the gap jump in the background that's the right thing yeah absolutely excited there gord making exciting dropping on in can he get that p2 position that's what he's going to go for going around the outside but hanson still has that lead and honestly we also saw kavanaugh that's a great move he managed to get his teammate lasting with that super long jump so that does prove at least on that one that the gap jump is an option oh larson's back alongside dora now and the draft to drop back in and remember look at this we see dorne and larson go door-to-door they're teammates but guess what third is going to be watching from the outside dorian larson that's the spot you need to be looking for they're fighting for the spot oh liam doran's car shredding parts is broken on the rear limbs in the wall real left puncture he puts the car in the wall doran's out the battle's over it's kevin erickson now versus larson kevin erickson is getting it there's liam he's in the wall he'll be fine down at term one though around the outside line has gone kevin erickson they're gonna split the strategy here they have to they're unbelievable unfortunate for liam doran he was looking so good that puncture sets him into the wall but now it's hansen and larson erickson there in third you can see it just about a second in between those second and third jared bennett's joking oh we we got a roll there from larson larson goes over but then rubber meets the asphalt he survives and continues on but he is back quite a distance hanson and erickson one and two ollie bennett as we said that's amazing from lastly has stopped in the background so disaster for the cartel kevin erickson stalls up come on oh we got a red flag okay i'm surprised that that's that's because doran's stuck on the straight i'll tell you what who will be most disappointed there i think they might call this they might call this because we're we're more than we we're approaching worse three laps isn't it 66 race distance what are we on lap three yeah doran's out of the car not to you know make it sensational but we only sensationalize it when we make sure he's okay he jumped out he's actually on the other side of the wall a full red flag what do you think i think it's not a red flag i think the car was safe we knew liam was out of it i'd like to have carried on sony ollie bennett was 4.5 fighter in the end he was five seconds off kevin so bennett could have stood to go through there with that great early joke of that tactic larson had rolled but he carried on and was continuing that was that saying you know jared it's easy for me to say that we're here for the show and clearly what has to come absolutely first is the safety of the drivers but looking at liam's car the cockpit's safe you know it was all right it was only a tap on the wall yeah and and obviously just that tire puncture he's got it there's liam doran the british bomb watching on and you know man look at the two monster cars i mean between you know that of liam doran and then robin larson these guys saw the most calamity here in this lcq so now we need to figure out whether or not it will be a restart and then who can restart liam won't because his car is damaged kevin will i want to see if larson might restart jared after rolling the car imagine if he rolls the car restarts and then makes the final that'd be a hell of a story but he was limping so not sure it'll be capable yeah that so that berm over there grabs another victim we saw almost a flip yesterday almost twice but now in this in this lcq he actually flipped this is how it started so larson gets his incredible start and say i may be unfairly maybe not i'd like to look at the start again from the side or from wherever we've got it from and see if glass and jump he gets kevin erickson down to term one these guys all go inside for the tabletop which travis has said is the quick line look at us it's a great movie awesome he gets a cone but for me that's okay it's only a cone so bennett on the outside look bennett's about to split off to our left his right sets the mini up really early and he goes joker that leads liam to take the gap watch out liam goes on the gap yeah liam jordan was absolutely exciting just watch he cares so much speed and surprisingly he doesn't go up into the wall whips that thing like you call him send him a and that just set him up dropped in a formation and that's second place that's where he needed to be but where did it go wrong it just exploded when he went to that straightaway and look at that it's going against each other it could be that jared said that he's close together though yeah but then watch here so he's gone now because the rear has gone too far and another goes out he accelerates watch the rear fender the rear left fender and liam's car get obliterated as he comes onto the straight here off he comes bang round backwards into the wall yeah it's just when that rim hit the road you know there's a rut there the attitude of the vehicle so here's doran going over that jump larson there sitting in third and then boom goes the dynamite defender the british bomb living up to it lit the fuse and just exploded spins out goes into the wall and he is safe uh the car not the prettiest as uh larson continues on yeah we had a photograph right there in the middle he was like okay wow that wasn't a thumbs up right away that wasn't the only action between a monster rallycross vehicle look at larson out back rolls and then keeps it the right side up on the plus side that's a soft roll and i'm thinking not just about today jared i'm thinking about next week they've got six days to fix these cars before we go racing again up at minneapolis so he was away i reckon lassen could restart i hope he does as we're towing liam doran vehicles ah his vehicle off and throw it down to katie osborne's who's with the british bomb yeah a lot of dust over here that vehicle is covered as you can see and liam himself has quite a bit of dust on him as well not how you wanted to finish that off here liam you're running pretty quick what happened uh then actually i think it was we would have struggled today to be honest the dust has been pretty hard to drive in but uh been i've not got one good race start so i've really sold on me i've messed every single startup so far today so i can't expect to be leading races when you're messing the startup so it's all gone wrong from there but uh yeah in one piece still i think that was was going okay um i took the took the other option over the jump and came out pretty strong after the jump but then the tire delaminated out of nowhere um which is why i crashed to be honest because i didn't i didn't feel the tiger flat and all of a sudden lost complete tracks on the rear and spun around in circles so uh it is what it is i think elsa didn't want to be in the lcq anyway and to crash out of the lcu it couldn't go much worse than that could have so uh move on to the next one i guess well hey you said you're in one piece and that's important you're sitting here on the wall though how how are you feeling no fine i mean the jump's still the best thing i've ever done in my life like still i've already gone over it with three tires again but uh there's no way i was going on the inside line to try and win the race and going over the giant regardless so that's that's the best thing about this weekend but i'm here because the car's been really strong we were really strong in practice every single time in practice we're right at the top um i've just been messing the starts up and rallycross if you've messed up startup you don't win a race so i've got to go away and figure that bit out all right well thank you for that i hope you feel better and guys a lot of learning here in this lcq for the final the ones in the final that they can take away yeah absolutely insane liam seems to have a great spirit even just showing up here he's having fun uh overall not the results he's looking for but a good attitude is what he comes out of here and like you said six days the the team's going to be thrashing to get that car fixed rip roaring ready to go at erx the round two of natural rally and of course there's a couple of days transport in there jared you know better than me how long how long is it going to take by our truck the cars will go back in containers it's cross country a couple of days i mean 16 hours i mean these these guys are psychos i mean they they go they go across liam and robin will be sharing the truck driving weren't they they've got a couple of truckies they'll jump in and make sure it gets done but when that's going to lose them they've got five six days max to get it sorted man yeah i mean you know early on we saw cabot big um unfortunately he had to pull off he had a not not not the best start but uh as a right there that was robin larson so robin larson like you said that could have been way worse if if he would have gotten to the wall which we saw him go out over the jump and go into the wall but look at that rip and then keeps it you know relatively you know sunny side up but uh the polished side but the rubber meets the gravel and continues on i'm looking out the window here with tanner falcon trying to figure out if robin larsen is in the pre-grid is is larson good to go we've got got tana found the other side of a glass wall he's he's making signs at me he's going to come in that answers the question so uh we need our third mic up uh if we can we've got tana faust up in the commentary box with us uh kevin erickson's down katie but tanya yeah it looks like robin's gonna go again that was a bit of carnage yeah so at the red flag they all come in there and park for may as you probably said so they couldn't touch the car i think they allowed them to look at it anyway but not touch it so i don't know if he's going out with a puncture or not wow mad i've seen two all right i'm gonna i'm just gonna call and i can see him tan you're over there smiling well i'm certainly not smiling at that i know i know you're not but you're smiling because you're in the finals and but also overall i'm honestly i'm smiling because that was a crazy show yeah that was insane i was just down uh near the spotters and where the spectators are and everybody is literally coming out of their skin down there so it's i just like to see you know yeah the track is hard to work through the the cars are you know it's a little bit of survival but man the show is epic so it's definitely hitting the nail on the head when it comes to uh entertainment factor well we saw liam doran explode that tire so uh the table top man this is this is crazy don't go anywhere guess what we're re-racking them they're they're going three laps once again in lcq so we are down to four cars because uh we got you know kevin hansen he's out but here we go about yes cabot big i'm doing a pre-start at the back so threw me off if we take a look uh if we go wider on the grid you'll see we've got the front row but the whole of the middle rows missing jared so what they actually do is they rack them back where they where they were on the grid originally so we don't take up the slack you see the gap now back between row one and row three so that's a big advantage for bennett if i were bennett i'd do exactly what he did last time go wide go joker straight away he's unlikely to have a tail gunner because he's got that bit more of a gap and then kevin's got to go standard lap and we've got to go again real quick question for uh for tanner here how does robin larson kind of recalibrate himself after doing a rollover oh it's it's i wouldn't say it's a regular occurrence for him but he's been there before as you know um and so i i think he's just not going to go in that exact same hole anymore and he's going to be just fine yeah he's a wild man isn't he lost yeah he goes for it and he's he's always awesome he's incredible yeah he's he's quiet but he's he's quiet in in himself he's quite mild-mannered but not in a race car wow all right 30-second card is up so with our lcq re-rack him stack him who's coming out on top four vehicles now we started with six and obviously liam scratches out we just saw that of erickson go exit stage left but hanson bennett larsen bigum only two will advance on here coley yeah interesting time oh what's this we got and look at that they put them back in yeah that's what i mean yes so they don't take up the space but that gives the guys at the back of the grid actually a little bit longer to see what the front of the grid does but i'm unless bennett beats kevin to turn one i'm certainly go down the wide line so bend it versus kevin hansen on the front remember three more left again good start ben he's got a better start this time get a squeeze on the run down for turbo one ollie gonna go inside he's got kevin hanson if he runs right kevin again on the inside he does exactly that joey makes the pass around the outside line has gone uh both larson and bigger but can't see using front in the dust it looks like bingham last drop back to cover big and where's he gonna go he goes jump by the ground joe cut but larson's in the dust and he looks like he's got a problem oh man unfortunately with larson in that role it might have caused more damage than they expected but hanson gets a clean air he's out front again we are seeing ollie bennett and then bring it up in third his dry rhinobot driver that is kevin bigel so he got a saving grace because remember he pulled off right after start so he uh should go buy a lottery ticket contact there between uh between kevin hansen and ollie bennett cabot biggum's going with these guys that's what i'm saying earlier on tanner actually you can throw some light on this oh sideways again bennett takes another look ollie bennett's been pulled along here by the 2019 champion god he gets stuck in the cattle bigger he took a little while to get used to the big matanna when you guys were working together when he got it he was on form and now it looks like he might be coming into a bit of a vein of form now in the audi he absolutely is and now if he goes out and he takes the joker he's got an opportunity to get really clean air and click off some laps while these guys battle it out yeah yeah so you think that's the strategy here that you think that would was that talked about um i just think it's so there it is yeah so he goes for that tire joker laughing like you said god oh look at this ollie bennett pulls off in his mini so that's going to put biggum through cabaret victims gone joker kevin hansen is out front cabot who i must say i thought wouldn't quite be close enough with bennett going out let's open the door up for kevin hansen and uh cameron bingham to go through but hang on though because larson's still out there as well so any problems for these two yeah and last it might scrape this is just a survival of the finish which car is going to leave for like stan surviving it's a little lord of the flies [Music] just a survival of the fittest here and kevin hansen he's i mean he's down and this is exactly what we expected weird said all right kevin hansen he's proven he's won here 2019 our most recent winner back a couple years ago we had our last round here but uh kevin biggm he's got some momentum yeah he's taking i think we're getting a cover on the joker here from hanson certainly with that seven second and uh that's going to put him in a good spot yeah he's got to go this time remember only three laps for the lcqs are had to be done and he's getting in front of big and bigger with seven point four back he should only be about three back now i've been pressing his pace tanner what have you guys been doing you sitting there looking at laptops it sounds so glamorous doesn't mean yeah i know it's great it's lots of laptops and um no it we've been working the whole weekend and it's a lot of it's just familiarity he looks great he's inside exit at this corner very very difficult and so slippery we'll see if he can keep pace he's actually still keeping that three seconds to hansen well this is it he's just a couple turns away as kevin hansen will win this lcq going over the hit one more turn as he re-answers on the tarmac where liam dorn the door up turn here as he crosses and gets the checkered flag kevin hanson is going to the big show big ups gone run in the background biggum's broken the car the fight he's going around in circles larsen's way too far back steering's broken on the aldi the car's blown up big time over the line but he's qualified the team have got some work to do now there in that tussle leah blocked up into p4 so that's great look at mckinnie's airing it out you won't see that for the other cars unfortunately i think we might have lost all the uh the higher booster powered 200 horsepower cars except for mckinnis who's whose clock time is just going to tick up right basically yeah no he's again 150 horsepower difference between that of opie anderson and leah black they've just got away in front of him he's going to come to lap traffic jared if you look here to the right-hand side of your shot they're all heading onto the start finish straight now so i saw mckinnis earlier so he's got a gt3 here gt3 rs which he keeps at the track he's a local guy he says i love to do track days but what's your history i can really honestly like you know he loves it yeah just out here racing is a aussie and has been really dominant out here very fast car so like you said mcginnis is the only rx3 in the building uh in that top yet they're similar kill different cars aren't they that's a lap not ideal sub-optimal yeah he is he is a lapra there you see the gap between mcginnis and anderson 16 seconds ramp 21 seconds behind it leah block make her dad proud like come away a third just shows it's rallycross like the top fastest car is all at issues and as long as you're you know quick and consistent and keep yourself uh in a good spot like you end up on the podium so it's just typical rally girl she did a great job and here we are she gets a third place trophy uh how about the number here on the side of the car is that changing are you keeping that what's going on with that that's my number that's your number you've already had success with that in in cart racing as well right yep all right well congratulations to you guys good job good job you got somebody special what's going on [Music] well as you can see they're really taking some time on kevin biggm's car here man what a spectacle first and foremost we're so glad you're okay second that final lap what was going on in your mind my friend well i was definitely a bit excited to have been in p2 and my spotters were telling me take it easy take it easy and of course you know i end up doing something like this but i came over that final final jump the one right there leaning on the straightaway and i feel like it kicked out a little bit in the rear and there was a little bit of dust kind of covering the inside tire as you as you apex left and uh i just i just clipped it with the left front and it spun me around and tore pretty much everything you could off the car here so uh i'm super disappointed and i'm sorry to my team and my sponsors but you know we'll we'll have a better round in uh erx for sure and that's the assumption that you guys are not in the final there was a question will the team have what it takes to get it done and they may have but you can't with this car yeah i mean it really depends once we get it back uh to the pit we'll know actually the extent of chase that and find out that i think those pictures were from a moment ago when the car was being loaded onto the flatbed but yeah if they're not they definitely don't have time to get it sorted all right and uh yeah i don't think they're gonna make it race control thinks they're probably not gonna make it here we go it's time to race what do we got here six laps six cars who's going to come out of top goalie eric gordon almost jumped the start he bombs the clutch uh george mcginnis keeps the branch as well so it's here with martinez gives him a squeeze but again he gets just a little bit sideways goes into the inside line sage camera pretty sure was leading the pack on the outside simon oliverson comes in there and then it was eric gordon at the back of the pack at four gordon he went to jump and then he backed out he goes sage karam is going to go joker yes dead right and casper's gone with him so casper janssen got in with him and in fact laying the cable as well let's watch them for uh for sage karam and casper janssen they're the danger man yeah they already executed that joker lap here england out front mcginnis there and mcginnis now takes the lead we got that number nine out front 60 cent in a second and then olaf's in nice well done by mcginnis that young phenom is definitely looking strong so mcginnis and england heading off look in the background though he's got straight past eric jordan that's what he needed to do they've got the pace on gordon but he hasn't joked both karim and janssen got through and they're only 5.3 off the lead so they're going to try and chase mcginnis down mcginnis is going to have probably eric farren in his ears now eric farren was sebastian loeb spotter and he co-runs yellowstone with kevin hansen so he's got the right people in his ears and the pressure's going to come from behind jared tam's quick yeah karen is very quick but mcginnis he's got a lot of clean air and endless he was getting aggressive i already saw that from the start it looked like england was just absolutely bashing there's a four-car pileup between uh olefson and mcginnis but right now i'm against that tabletop jump again they can't hit the big gap obviously here in the next car this is a great camera when you're gonna lock the camera off that's an awesome place to do it uh nobody's taking it out luckily but that is a great shot i love at the gap because it's too late he should have gone to that before yeah i think england needs to go on the next one whatever mcginnis does he needs to do the opposite in order to potentially gain that position and just get away from casper 5.1 the gap now it's it's it would be a hyper close merge at this point so we've really got to watch that gap between the guinness england he sees he's yeah and he's gone up to 5.6 this is better george mcginnis is driving tidy but that's a little bit wide one corner it could be watch casper is he gonna keep it tidy i reckon he did yeah yeah i mean here we go with those splits 5.6 seconds we'll see if that shrinks or if it grows but mcginnis they're they're both taking different approaches i like mcginnis's landing but he's just getting a lot of momentum and sweet oh there it is look at casper 6.4 seconds so it has grown 6.3 as uh mcginnis now crosses the finish line and we got a couple more laps here we are on lap five so two more laps shout out to the guys at nrx timing and to the organizers as well for making sure we have these timing loops i know i'm getting geeky about it you can see what a difference it makes you know it's two tenths up three tenths back you can see when one mistake kills a driver what it's done so i don't understand why england hasn't gone because he now can't win jared you know he's he's all he's all he's also got five seconds over yet and he might as well have gone and taken a gamble on getting mcginnis he's basically consigned himself to p2 even though he looked to me earlier in the race to be quicker okay where else can he stroke he can't network the best place to pass is this happening if you can get close enough on the next laptop i mean i was going to say right here but look at england overcooks it and the gap is created so i i think england his strategy was maybe pressure mcginnis and he'll make the mistake in order for him to get the power he was piling it on if you remember it you know it looked like it would be on but what lap two lap three we were saying we're in the end he looks quick he needs to go he couldn't go too early because there wasn't a gap being to slot back into if he went joker but for me he could have gone on lap three or four we're on to the final lap now all right this is it the white flag is out mcginnis is out front tell you what his car looks great doesn't even look like a gun to a tussle with anything i mean a lot of the other vehicles out there they look broken up all right now they're going for that attire joker lap like you said hey you know what it's okay it's okay it's okay he didn't listen but you know what there's still there's still some turns we saw what happened in the lcq we saw what happened with other races but mcginnis he's gonna put a mint on the pillow meaning he's he's got an eight service man this thing's gonna look good put a bow on it it was 10.8 the jab so kathy janssen potentially has given himself some sort of a little issue because he was closing them down mcginnis needs to anchor up early here and for me again there was a chance there but i i think maybe the problem jared is that if they avoid casing the jump they then too quick in the dusty conditions to stop it so you know we're not sitting in the car but mcginnis is going around the long left hand of these parents are here we met them earlier this week and it's his dad's first time watching a rallycross meeting and he gets to watch mcginnis win round two of nrx next brilliant drive under pressure from england casper yaps are remember after a shocker in qualifying yesterday's winner good job this is how it started you know we saw gordon kind of have some difficulty there off the start but uh watch like i said it starts at the beginning look at look at that of uh mcginnison england there was contact right out of the game yeah they were super tight between them all of them got into the back there of england as well eric jordan on the back of that pack sage karam did the right thing to go joker earlier not quite sure what happened there because the pace just seemed to disappear so those front two ultimately maybe just having a little bit more lap pace in than jared than the other cars out there i mean really exciting race this is what you want to see the progression of it you know you're looking at supercars right they're budgets you know we're hearing that you know teams thrashing on cabin bingham's car most likely might not make it i say all this because here are our next cars do they have these big budgets are they i mean you know they're they're they're aspirational right so five days six days until a race in minnesota they really don't want to create a lot of headache for their team but uh the separation again that of mcginnis and england it was them one or two so close look this was when england to me looked to have better pace than the guinness and i really think should potentially joking on lap three or that four giving himself a chance on the taxes there was a gap back then to casper janssen then suddenly jasper sorry janssen you know what you know what i'm going to that it's a short version yeah he was within striking distance so he couldn't joke that this is that's a terrible thing you've got to get it down on the one and there's me going a bit too nuts in the background that's fine two of me is a bit too much i know one's probably a bit much oh look at that there it is pops is high that's his pops oh coming on over timmy hansen there to congratulate them as well of course didn't see as many of the next drivers out here but almost every race your eyes were on it what have you learned all weekend long i basically just learned that through the banks right and left it's puncture city like so many punctures happen there so many suspension failures like i just drove it super calm through there the entire time and i just avoided all mechanicals or anything like that and just drove my own race tried to have no altercations it's honestly a better race if you see no one the entire time so thankfully i did and i just i don't know what to say i'm so happy we'll let you celebrate it it's truly like he just won the championship down here a special moment for george mcginnis and his team well the yellow squad lives up to yeah i mean probably the youngest driver out utah motorsports park campus that is right the finals are upon us and here we are round one of five of the first ever nitro rallycross championship i'm jared bienda joining me once again is andrew coley we've seen an exciting attorney of festivals right from yesterday bracket battle gets debuted we see sierra cars we see a nice car but this is what everybody is waiting for guess what kevin biggm does not make it he crosses the finish line unable to fix his vehicle so it's a nine car six lap final 600 horsepower all-wheel drive variety of manufacturers andrew what is going through your head what do you think as we take a look at the grid you know i'm wondering what's going through the heads of the drivers travis pastrana is on pole in his own event he's only ever had one major rally cross victory back in the days of global rallycross this would be the biggest victory of his career against one of the greatest rally crossfields ever assembled he's up against the 2018 champion on the front row jared this is going to be epic absolutely insane katie osborne what are the updates well timmy hansen says i also need to be at the right place at the right time he said that first turn is carnage so his goal is to just dive in there and see where he comes out meanwhile travis pastrana says i don't think i'm faster than timmy so if he gets away from me it's going to be a problem you
