we are here at the cathedral of speed the sun is shining we've got so many spectators here we're psyched to be in us at the tt circuit and we can't wait to get this race going and the man who's studying pole position as liam larson listening to rap music to get all psyched for this race um you're starting in pole position the man who's leading the championship is way back in p8 and you're only 10 points behind so do you think perhaps you can take the lead in the championship today how tough will it be it'll be very tough we have the weight um i know we had the weight in spielberg and we were still able to win but around here it's a completely different situation we had a really really good car in spielberg we also have a good car here but i don't think we have the same advantage and with the the abrasive track the degradation is going to be high with the extra weight it's even higher so um i think it'll be tough luckily marco's also got some weight in the car as well so maybe we we hold everybody else up behind us but uh the focus for me is to get the start as good as i can and then for the rest of the race uh we find out how our pace is and try and fight from there all right well best of luck liam thank you so much and now here's the commentator thanks very much indeed marina welcome everybody then to assen as we get set for what will be round 11 of the dtm 2021 season the first of two races here this weekend and with liam lawson the driver on fire at the moment he got almost a maximum possible score at the red bull ring with two wins out of two a pole and a second place in the qualifying sessions there so from a possible 56 points he scored 55 he moved from fifth up to second in the championship standings and he's also closed the gap further still thanks to the three points he picked up for his second pole position in three attempts earlier on kelvin vandalinder though still has his nose in france in the championship lead but we've got max scott's closing in as well another top three for max in qualifying earlier 132 points and the driver he's been best of all over the last few rounds in terms of qualifying performances marco vittman he's right in the hunt as well 123 points so just 24 points covering the top four in the championship in this race weekend with just six races to go in the championship there's team o'clock he's never been on the podium here not that we've had many races in accent first time we came here was in the 2019 season but he'll be looking to go well and support his teammate sheldon van der linde meanwhile we can go back to the grid and back to varina and i'm here with maxi gertz starting in p4 unfortunately you were supposed to be p3 but then you were penalized so it's going to be even tougher for you in the race i guess yeah so mirko bodoloti got his left back it was cancelled because of track limits uh but now he's p3 i'm four so i'm only on the outside of uh turn one which is a bit unfortunate and a bit maybe not the right uh position to to start a race but in the end it is what it is and we try our best to keep the place on the start and maybe gain some positions i know marco is always struggling a bit in the first laps because of his bmw so we should take this advantage so i will try of course everything to to get past and taking risk but not too much because i need points in the end for the championship it's all about championship and your third in the championship so you need to play it safe too yeah in the end today um it's possible that the order of the ranking will be changed quite quite heavily so let's see how it is and in the end we score points as much as we can and having a good race hopefully all right maxine thank you so much best of luck and we're going to go forward from p4 to p2 to grab the man um marco wittmann because he is fourth in the championship and actually this man has been consistent all the time can we just quickly grab you for an interview you've been consistent in the championship so far collecting points every single time and now you're starting in p2 so what can you do for the race how tough will it be to hopefully end on the podium maybe even with a victory yeah at the end i mean we are all pretty much in the similar boat i mean liam is carrying the 25 kilos maxie behind me is 15 me 18. so we are all having that success ballast obviously we are trying to have a good race um a clean race um i think it's all dictated by tire management and pit stop strategy so obviously we try our best and let's see where we're gonna finish at the end last question the atmosphere here the sun is shining we've got so many spectators how much are you enjoying it it's super good like to have the fans back on the grandstands also back in the paddock it's super nice original through some some caps into the fans they loved it and um yeah obviously it's it's super nice to have them with us all right marco best of luck for the race and now to the commentator thanks marina yeah good to hear from marco whitman six out of the last seven qualifying sessions he's been in the top three it really has ignited his championship charge putting him in a strong position fourth in the championship but well within striking distance in theory he could end this race as the championship leader if things were to go his way right we've heard from maxie gotz as well the uh the drive that's eternally laid back had never met a more laid-back racing driver than maxi but he's in third in the championship now he alluded to the fact that the grid might not be shaping up how you imagined if you watch qualifying this morning because several drivers had lap times taken away from them for track limits they were appealed before the race started and some drivers have been given those laps back and it has had quite an important effect mecca bought a lottery the guest driver this weekend put back into third space maxi got still gets point for being in the top three because he's a guest driver bortolotti christian clean was put back into fifth on the grid and we also had alex album being put back on to uh getting his lap back and he gets back onto the fourth row of the grid so the grid shaping up a little bit differently back to the grid now though to hear well more from verina reit and i'm here with the coolest dude ever i'm trying my best to look as cool as you so i know but you got to start performing because hey you're starting in p8 and we're not used to having you in the in the far in the back and also the distance is shrinking you've got 10 points lead but what are you going to do i mean coming from p8 and you need to fight so hard because this is what it's all about the championship what are you going to do that's awesome right you guys are having fun so i'm happy you guys are enjoying the show um i know i have to fight for it that's my job so uh yeah this track is luckily very specific entire way so i think we can do something in the strategy yeah it's about keeping calm you know the top three in the championship or some of the guys up front there they're all together so maybe they uh have some fun on track and i try and stay out of it never know what happens in this game so let's see but he always seems so cool and it also seems like you're still enjoying the bit of sun here the sunshine i'm enjoying because i know when i go back to campton on monday it's it's gone so uh yeah enjoying all the amazing fans here it's great to see such a full crowd so we're gonna try and give it all all right i'm sure you will calvin best of luck and now let's get the race started in just a bit so here's your commentator thanks rina great to hear from kelvin van der linde the championship leader so we thought he was going to be starting fifth on the grid and then all those drivers were given their laps back so balto lotte clean and albon uh all getting their laps back put it back ahead of him so he's going to be on the fourth row of the grid now be liam lawson marco whitman on the front row murko bought a lottie maxi gots on row two philip ellis and christian clean on row three and then we'll have alex album getting his lap back promoted back up onto the fourth row he'll start seventh kelvin vandalinder bc there starting in eighth and then we'll have daniel hunkadeya and nico muller completing the top ten alex alban another driver to get his lap back which was initially taken away from him uh alex i guess we can say it's his first and maybe last season in dtm last season for a while anyway because we now know that he's going to be racing for williams uh in formula one next year announcement coming through in between the two events the two events dtm at spielberg last time out and uh here at aston there's somebody knows all about formula one christian clean never got the podium in formula one we had some good results he was a red bull driver for time race for jaguar as well out of which the red bull formula one team was born based out in milton keynes in england and best finisher fifth uh for christian in formula one but these days pretty experienced gt racer and tv commentator phillip ellis is still very much involved in this championship fight as well he's been one of the race winners this season and he's going to be starting from the third row of the grid success ballast free the top three from the previous race carry extra weight on the car success ballast liam lawson as he says for a second race one running is going to have 25 kilograms added to his car he starts on pole marco vittman finished second just behind him in race two at spielberg so he'll have 18 kilograms and fourth on the grid maxi gotz will have 15 kilograms added to his cars he psyches himself up the perspective called bavarian uh with three drivers ahead of him on the grid but also the championship leader behind him after kelvin van der linde was bumped back down to eighth spot on the grid merco bought lottie then guest driver this weekend for t3 motorsports who had maximilian paul in the car uh for the previous weekend in austria that's their third lamborghini hurricane he's a former black pond gt champion former fia formula 2 champion as well so he's a good very experienced driver he's developed the lamborghini hurricane guest driver not involved in the championship fight he won't get championship points however he could have a real effect here on the race because he's going to be mixing it with the front runners here at aston liam lawson though the driver who's on fire he's looking for his hat trick of wins here can he get a third consecutive race picture we're about to find out here at aston welcome to the netherlands as we come to assen for this sixth race weekend of the season dtm 2021 the country which is famous for its cycling for its range of cheeses windmills and of course canals which you can find on the drive through to the circuit alongside some beautiful architectures some really stunning villages and small towns in the local area as you drive to the circuit it's a beautiful parts of north east netherlands and in amongst all the calm and tranquility you've got the fast and furious tt circuit here at assen which was first formed in 1955 as a racetrack as such but racing started here in 1926 on a road circuit which interlinked the villages for the tt motorcycle races that circuit was very different to the one which you see here today the original road circuit ran for a whopping 28.57 kilometers it then got transferred into a park road circuit parts race circuit and over the years it has developed and around about 20 years ago a huge investment of something like 34 million euros was put into the circuit the paddock was extended by 50 these huge huge grandstands were built the track was resurfaced reshaped in points as well and it is of course uh one of the most famous venues in the world for motorcycle racing for the moto gp in particular but well super bikes race here and even champ car in the past has raced here and dtm since 2019 so chris hartley here in the commentary box ready to talk you through the first race of the weekend the grid now being cleared we've got a 55 minute plus one lap race coming up and the championship fight has been blown wide open after the results of the previous weekend at the red bull ring with the championship leader kelvin van der linde still picking up good finishes in fifth and sixth in austria but losing out to liam lawson he got those two race wins losing out to maximilian gotz who got a second and a third last time out as well and we also had uh marco vittman on the podium in race two having got pole position at spielberg who is very much in the fight as well philip ellis is fifth in the championship on 99 points alex alban is sixth in the championship on 94. i see peter mooka there to the right to the team boss for muka motorsports who run maximilian book in his mercedes he's himself a racing driver and still dabbles every now and again but uh his son stefan muka used to race in the dtm very experienced gt racer as well and that team the berlin bay squad is looking for good results here max spook in his first season of dtm qualifying in the middle of the field so with all the lap times that were given back after the track limits issues which might raise their head again in this race this is how the grid ended up with liam lawson and marco whitman split by just 16 000 of a second in qualifying the smallest gap we've had so far this year and they've been some mighty small gaps and then merco bought a lottery the guest driver maximilian gots on road to philly palace and christian clean another guest driver christian in for his third race weekend in the dtm and a great job by the jp motorsport seeing the german crew which run the mclaren because they have got their best qualifying position so far so they're the rest of the grid you've got album van der linde hunkader and muller rounding out the top ten vance on abril leads the second group of cars and what about sheldon van der linde he's overdue some good luck or at least no bad luck here this weekend he's had a rotten time of it in the last couple of weekends he could have got easily a couple of podiums he might have even got a race win out of either the nurburgring or the red bull ring but both times bad luck struck a puncture in one race broken car and another after damage a broken wheel but uh this is a place he knows and loves he's further down the grid than he would have liked but sheldon van der linde will be on a charge no doubt in the bmw having been a race winner here where he was maiden race victory dtm last year marco vic but has been a winner at this circuit as well back in 2019 with a stunning drive through in one of the races there as well in wet conditions i remember so we'll see what he can do as he seeks a race victory about three wins this year each for kelvin van der linde and liam lawson also race wins one each for max scots marco whitman philly palace and alex albans so the top six in the championship have all been race winners the top ten in the championship have all been on the podium at some point or another this season with the most podiums this year going to liam lawson with six so far he's now amassed at 12 points from qualifying and that's has been equal by marco vitton as well he's amassed 12 points from qualifying so they both now have scored the equivalent of an extra fourth place finish a piece thanks to their qualifying performances as the clock ticks down to zero and with the grid cleared the cars now head off onto the formation lap around this 4.55 kilometer the first sector has some tight twisty sections a little bit reflective of the nurburgrings mercedes arena at the start of that lap at times and then it really opens out in the back of the circuit with some super quick corners and then in particular the final sector the final third of the lap is mega quick through turn 15 the left-hander which you'll see shortly in a couple of minutes time absolutely now that one flat out through there so through turn one there you go there you can see the track temperature is 26.5 degrees now which is around about seven degrees warmer than it was in qualifying this morning it's a very pleasant day here it's uh it started off fairly warm at about 14 degrees but it's uh almost hot now 19 degrees gentle breeze out there so out through the first complex returns one two three which is a tight right hander leading almost directly into the tight writer four they go through a hairpin effectively at turn five and act onto this very quick back straight down towards turns six and seven a wide chicane i guess you'd call it through ruskinhawk that is where lots of drivers have been whacking the curbs which have been taking a real pounding great to see the grandstands full uh here at lassen with uh fans in full flow from turns seven they go down towards the right hand right turn eight second vol which is almost a 90 degree right-hander so straight with a little in between through between turns eight and nine turn 90 volts it's another 90 degree corner a left-hander and at the farthest point of the circuit through mandevilla turned 10 and 11 volkers salute you tried to then accelerate out for the really quick section at the back of the circuit through 12 at moonvee and then through 15 towards turn 15 and should come out of another chicane section at ram shock absolutely flat out through the left hander and then the final chicane which takes in the gear to timmerbot which is a right left right jinx back out onto the start finish straight and that is where lots of drivers have been caught out so far this weekend with track limits warnings at sports line then looking to get a win here as they got here last year with robin fryers thomas bmi to the right the team principal in the garage the teams are fixed on the tv screens watching the tv pictures as alex alban who's carrying one of the onboard cameras this weekend instead of being 14th on the grid where he thought he was going to be he's up now into the top eight starting in seventh place having got his lap back can he provide some support for his teammate liam lawson who is there ready for the rolling start to get underway the side by side start the safety car has peeled in 55 minutes plus one lapra racing chris hartley here track side to torque you through round 11 of dtm 2021 it is lawson on the left of the pitch of the pole pulsator are about to get them underway with marco whitman alongside the green lights and we are racing and maxi gotch gets a good start as he tries to draw along the side there from the second row of the grid better lots he's got the inside line it's gonna be lawson in the lead it's gonna be three at rest for second maxi gold's trying to go around the outside still fitment in the middle fertility on the inside and it's market whitman that somehow fends them off he stays in second place but gotcha still trying to come around the outside of him as they're now going to the right-hander at turn four he now comes under fire from berta lottie of the lamborghini and we've got daniel hunter there and vance on abril in trouble further back so angerdeja who's been quick here so far this weekend right at the back of the field will it bring out a safety car can he get going again and look at bertolotti at the lamborghini side by side now with marco whitman for second place he's gonna have the inside line through turn six scots and clean just behind as well and it's berta lottie that snatches the position through to second place he goes and then it's fitment down to third gotts in fourth clean in fifth place and then mclaren having a look at the inside just behind them kelvin van der linde has made a bit of progress the championship leader in the number three at sportsline audi but daniel hunkader's race i'm afraid he's run he's out of the car out of the race just as they started to get that car hooked up in the second race at spielberg and it was looking good here he is i'm afraid being the victim of a lap one incident the start is under investigation and that was uh on the right of the picture where lots of it was triggered he got hit from behind from vance on abroad he was sent then into the back of alex albans alvatary bat ferrari argent mighty was in that as well and it was a bit of a messy start there on the right hand side of the grid in the middle of the grid damage to the front of the car safety car is deployed and uh i have to remove daniel hungary's group m mercedes before we can get things back underway the original race distance 55 minutes plus one lap can be extended by up to two extra laps to lapse loss to the safety car so there's one la oh mine is out as well we saw him getting involved in that concertina so damage to the front of his car and after a terrific run at the red bull ring where he qualified third he finished in the top six i'm afraid he's out of the race argentina so [Music] he's out liam lawson is your race leader michael baltelotti's second marco vittman third max scott's fourth christian clean fifth kelvin van der linde has gained two places up to sixth place as the marshals remove debris from the circuit and then we've got philip ellis seventh alex alban eighth nico muller will be ninth and shelton van der linde will be the last of the points scorers at the moment in 10th place as fantabril now tries to limp his hrt mercedes back to the pits and it's the same problem for him damage to the front of the car all constantine it up somebody must have had to get off the throttle or on the brakes on that side of the grid and it's like a motorway pileup almost and it all concertina everybody went into the back of everybody else and we lost at least three cars as a result of it so real shame for argent mining who's been quick all season long had a bit of bad luck in the first few rounds but really started to uh come good the nurburgring we picked up his first points and then really good weekend in austria the indian driver will be back tomorrow i'm sure there is daniel there the former european formula three champion of macau grand prix winner dtm race winner as well he's out and watson abril he's into the pits for repairs and possibly to lose a lap if he goes back out at all copy that we're on it drive through right start under investigation marco bitman's slow and that was where it all wants to team it up just behind him he got a hit as well didn't he big here you can see it from the onboard camera there so it looks from vertolotta's point of view [Music] and yeah it's just a bit of contact with the front right corner of the bmw up against the ferrari of lawson and as he staggered off the start that was where maxie got he was sharp got involved and there's the constantine ring a knock at the front and the knock at the back of the uh the car for alex alban they're coming through the pits they're being sent through the pits the uh the train because they are getting debris off the start finish line from all that incident so they don't want the drivers to pick up debris and get puncture potentially they want the marshals to work safely so you see this every now and again to neutralize that side of the circuit they send the cars at low speed through the pit lane and there you can see that's what's there out of the way daniel angelia's mercedes is soon to be headed into the pits so that's almost cleared now the start is under investigation you won't be surprised to hear but no news as yet of any penalties coming anyway we've got max boots another the cars has got damage the front right corner front right wing of the mercedes pointing vertically so that shows really why qualifying is also important because you've been in the middle of the pack that was where all the drama tends to happen almost sometimes you better being at the back of the pack than you are in the middle where it all squeezes up so it's that right hand side you just see the back of the frame of the picture where the contact was all happening but there was drama at the front left as well daniel watches back the replay he says look at that do you see what happened there like a disbelief on the 30 year old's face and that's an abra out of the car now to the right of your picture so not a good start for him his hrt teammate maxi got still in the race look like he might gain a place or two at the start but in the end he's wound up still in fourth position [Music] so a dramatic start to the race let's try and pick up the pieces and get some insight into that with varina down in the pit lane yeah i'm here with daniel kadeya we just saw you watching the restart and your face was in disbelief i guess you didn't really understand what was happening either but try to talk us through what happened it's pretty simple then the leader just didn't go when he had to the starting corridor is very close to the last corner we knew it was going to be tight we already talked about it on the driver's briefing but i don't know why he waited so long and then i could clearly see from my position which is ninth i could see the lights were green and nobody was going so that's why it's always the same you know in the middle of the pack people start moving i think from behind i got hit then i then i hit album [Music] i i just had nowhere to go my car was destroyed in front destroyed at the rear so i just sparked it because i couldn't go any further but clearly it was a mistake from from the front row okay danny thank you very much hopefully your car will get fixed by tomorrow and now back to you thanks farina so that's the perspective the point of view from uh daniel hungadeo is right in the middle of all of that on the on the right side of the grid the pole side of the grid so you say look the leader didn't go when he should have so he's referring to the pulses it's liam lawson and some went others didn't and you know did anybody hit the brakes then i'm into the back of album then i get hit from behind so uh start under investigation liam at lawson though at the head of the pack the race will be now a distance of 55 minutes plus three laps despite the uh unusual shape of his mercedes max spooky's gonna continue on so i might make the pit stop the tire stop a little bit tricky when we get to that phase of the race but we should wait and see more news down in the pits now though from verena yes and i've got vince here and looking at your car the front is damaged the back is damaged nothing you could do right no the start happened really late uh unfortunately that's you know it's always more exposed to these kind of risks when you start further back um we had a troubled quality with red flags so i would have liked to start a bit higher up but still i mean we have to keep a close formation and if if the start doesn't happen and the field compresses like this i don't really know who's to blame but for sure i was sandwiched between danny and it ended his race behind i got a massive hit from whoever so yeah not what i wanted for the guys but we'll push hard and i'm sure our time will come because we have a great team you've got tomorrow so absolutely best of luck for tomorrow so vince thank you very much and now let's have a look at the restart thanks very much indeed there's a team radio for marco rickman we are going into the restart procedure then it's now become a 55-minute plus three-lap race several drivers out of contention mining abroad and uh damage to the car but continuing on he's in 11th place and he got for the restart side by side two by two formation restart ferrari versus lamborghini lawson versus bartolotti bmw and mercedes on road two with whitman and gotz and the mclaren christian clean and the audi of kelvin van der linde six different manufacturers in the top six getting ready to go for the restart with just over 45 minutes left on the clock and away we go with lawson clean away brought alottie in second side by side for third day between two of our championship contenders contact between the mercedes of the bmw so he got some fitment bitman's got his nose in front of the bmw holds on to third place scotch tucks back in behind he got christian clean in the gold and black and mclaren had to fire from the championship leader calvin vandalinder who's coming around the outside of him or trying to on the run through this first complex he's got the inside light now and kelvin van der linde might be able to get a place here at the inside he goes out wide goes christian clean and up to fifth place now for kelvin van der linde christian clean he's going to lose another place potentially as well to philly palace on the back straight here in fact to alex albert who's got a good start on this uh restarts as the ferrari of liam lawson the lamborghini bortolotti now be right on board with edge away from that battle for third between wittmann and gotz it's been a a good start though good restart as well for kelvin van der linde he's gone from eighth at the start he's up to fifth place now but he's still losing points here of course to liam lawson alex alvin in the background showing his nose side by side with phillip ellis he was about to go into the turn did he get through still just behind but here they come almost hand in hand the mercedes of philip ellis holds the position the swish driver both though have made it ahead of the mclaren of christian clean so through they come and then you've got shelton vandalinder now getting in the action he gets ahead of alex alban so van der linde race winner here 12 months ago making a good start to the race qualifying outside the top 10 but the bmw started to charge through the order now alban on the back foot has got to try and fend off lucas our next as they come towards the end of the first lap of the restart with the top two around about a second and a half clear of whitman and gots in third and fourth positions carl's dark weave and dance this way esteban moot looking at the inside of teemo glock trying to get his t3 motorsport lamborghini upper place wide line there for the car that's carrying the most success ballast liam lawson that's going to be an issue for him you don't have the undulations of spielberg here we have to carry that weight uphill particularly out of turn one but it will have a big impact it's carrying 25 kilograms of success ballast there was only 16 thousands between the top two in qualifying and here we go down the inside goes bortilati into the lead of the race important to remember though he's a guest driver so he can get a win but he can't get 25 points liam lawson if it was to stay like this still would score 25 points as effectively the race winner the regular driver scoring championship points so he might have that in the back of his mind portalatti he's not really fighting against here in terms of the championship or the race win and the points that comes with it so the pat thunders through portalotti very quick at this stage now edging away he's got a replay of the restart it was all about the battle between wittmann and gotch we'll see the contact here as gotz comes back to the middle of the track finds a bmw in his way but it's a big strong car that bmw with a big strong driver behind the wheel marco whitman so he'll take the hit and he'll carry on and it seems there's no sustained damage from that that was how it looked from marco vitman's point of view it was square on though and then this a replay of the move into turn six for the lead of the race from mercury a 30 year old italian who lives in vienna and is fluent in german going through that's alex alvin still just about fending off the mercedes of lucas our and into the pits then the first of our front runners the first of our championship front runners is maxi gots so in he comes michelin's bolted on we've also got philly pellets into the pits and scott stays out ahead of him [Music] and then esteban moot has made an early pit stop as well so he's coming in the t3 motorsport lamborghini with his teammate for the weekend brought a lot to the exploit pawn gt champion leading the race for now so through they come balti getting away at the head of the pack we knew he'd be quick we couldn't quite tell how quick he was yesterday because he had two extra sets of slick tires available to him this weekend with his first dtm encounter oh is that going wide rather racing bmws is it sheldon van der linde or teemo glock in the background going slowly at sports line meanwhile are ready for the first of their drivers to come in could it be kelvin van der linde might rock and fella will it be sophia florsch helping vandalinder fourth place in the race as it stands now that maxie gotz has made his pit stop but he was a net fifth and that looked like liam lawson diving for the pit lane so the championship contender goes in and others die for the pit lane as well i'm just behind alex alvin i think that was lucas our going in so lawson is in for sure fitment promoted to second for now kelvin vandalinder to third in comes the ferrari and they're looking for a stationary time if they can of around about six and a half seven seconds be really good stop anything under eight is pretty good drop the car down off the jacks it goes it's okay it's not the best question was that it was sophia floresh that came in for that team so the first of their three hours to come in and gotz around the outside has gained a position here and we've already made it stop the lap before he's got his ties up to temperature and max scott's gains a position a really important position on his championship rival or one of his championship rivals liam lawson and he's come out well clear and it just wasn't the best of stops from the af courser team they have done better than that it was okay but matt scott's combined i think with the end and the outlap has uh gone from being around about a second and a half behind liam lawson to being about a second clear of him so gotz is the net leader for now he's the leading pit stopper for lottie still to come of course fitment still to pick kelvin vandalinder still to pits they're your top three as it stands christian clean fourth shelton vanderlinder came across the line in fifth so no problems for him teemo glock has come into the pits so i saw one of the over racing bmws in the background of the picture looking a bit slow that's team o'clock got a problem potentially and here comes merco bottellotti the race leader comes in now then the guest driver in the t3 motorsport lamborghini team looking for their first dtm win their first dtm season star driver lamborghini works driver bought a lotte the italian dropped off the jacks and about to come out in the background just behind him in comes esme hawkey's lamborghini so the team have sent one car out and perfectly timed it so that just as bortolotti goes out esme hawkey one of their other drivers comes in that was sweetly done right guts he's going to get the lead here of the race because he's already into turn one bartolotti still making his way into the pits he's going to go in between gotz and lawton so max scott's honor for his second win of the season here just a small match of 38 and a half minutes plus two yeah two laps to go in this one three laps to go rather and max got well clear baltilots he tucks into a net second ahead of liam lawson who could do it getting back past the lamborghini but remember he's carrying a lot of weight on the car on the ferrari and he isn't losing points by being stuck behind baltimore and then he got philip ellis the fourth of the pit stoppers in the background everybody has to make a mandatory stop the pit window opens once the leader crosses the safety car line on lap five after that you're free to choose when you come in and there it was team o'glot with the problem you can come into the pits at the end of that lap and into retirement i'm afraid for teemo i mean struggled to pick up points in the first what seven races of the season then started to pick up top ten finishes on a regular basis but now i'm afraid he picks up another retirement so marco whitman is your race leader on the road kelpie vanderlinder is second christian clean third but they haven't made their pit stops as yet sheldon van der linde coming into the pits in the river racing bmw the sole remaining forever racing bmw on track album muller book and rockefeller having a tight battle as you saw them going into turn well that was a good stop for the team under eight seconds so sheldon van der linde where's he going to come out gotcha goes through he's still the net leader porter lottie lawson ellis we're talking behind ellison to a clear track i think so that's fifth for now this is all looking pretty good for sheldon but this is where it's been going wrong of late after the pit stops i must say he's due for the bad luck the run of bad luck that he's had to end surely the south african what about his brother kelvin and he dig a podium finish out of this he's certainly in contention at the moment we'll see what the strategy is it's going longer so he's whitman but he's quick look the audi is closed up to the bmw in the background christian cleaning the mclaren running in third place another guest driver somebody else that can't score championship points if he finishes third the driver in fourth would get the points for third so again worth bearing in mind but the points being so close there's nine points between the top two in the championship kelvin vanderlinder and liam lawson after this morning's qualifying session nothing between the top three here at aston as they make their way through the final chicane the final sequence of corners and they stay out so whitman crosses the line does a 135.4 135.3 for kelvin van der linde the gap opening up to just over half a second on that lap with christian clinton at 1 35 0 9 5 closing up a little bit to kelvin i can see underneath the commentary box at the rossberg team already now so this could be and they of course are ready as well which must be for alex album because liam lawson's already made his mandatory pit stop right released is niko bala so he goes out wasn't a great stop 9.29 seconds but safely back on the road we'll go niko his first podium since monza weekend [Music] and he now rejoins via florist coming through on track staying out for what looks like a longer stint there are your top three all within a second and a half of each other all yet to make their mandatory pit stops sorry alvin has been in the pits he's fourth [Music] on the road that the race distance will be extended to 55 minutes plus three laps on the timing screen on board with the lamborghini hurricane gt3 of merco bortolotti there is though the net leader max gotz virtual leader he's the one that's made a pit stop that he's ahead and running at the moment in eighth place will be promoted to seventh now because mueller's been in and he's about 1.6 seconds clear of portalotti who in turn is just under a second clear of liam lawson and here we go as uh into the pits comes marco whitman alex alvin coming in clear clear go go [Music] yeah sorry albert hasn't made his pit stop yet the confusing thing is we need to defend track position as much as we can everybody showing us having made a pit stop before they made their pit stops on the timing screen because they all came through the pits and triggered the sensors uh during that safety car period right he kind of come out just behind phillip ellis so he's lost a lot of ground here and this is not looking great for alex alban into retirement i'm afraid it's not quite come together so far this weekend for alex so after the win at the nurburgring a strong fourth place with a heavy car in race one at spielberg that's two consecutive non-points finishes now it's a replay of alex wiping out one of the floppy markers on the chicane and uh into the retirement i'm afraid he goes but to further dent in his title hopes and aspirations so it might be a case that he'll now have to start concentrating on trying to help the team and liam lawson to the title but uh alban out of the race so kelvin fandolinder has picked up the lead christian clean what second he's going into the pits now though to make his mandatory stop so this is all looking very good for max scott's looking pretty good for liam lawson as well who's a kind of a net second if you take bortelotti out of the equation in terms of points maybe a third race on the top taking points away from kelvin van der linde if they finish ahead of him so what can the jp motorsport squad do working as quickly but as calmly as they can on this tire change just waiting for the front right now a bit of a delay losing time 11 seconds so they're going to lose time gotz goes through the shot there portalotti lawson fourth net fourth is ellis net fifth is whitman net sixth is sheldon van der linde and is he going to come out in front of or behind lucas our question he's still under dispute i'll be in front of him but with cold tires i think that's uh looking like max spook has had a moment and has just got going again and this is what happened a replay of yeah just losing the back of the car the mercedes as he got on the throttle already having to take evasive action as well but uh that will get the car at least pointed in the right direction again and going mike rockenfeller having to go very wide to avoid him there's mike's teammate kelvin van der linde leads the race hasn't yet made a pit stop so he's trying something different here his last lap time was 134.8 his best lap time he's a 134 eight so the tyres are not going off abrasive surface maybe but kelvin van der linde is making the tires work beautifully at the moment the michelins is as quick as he's ever been so there's no need for him to come in yet he's doing his best lap times currently still a long way to go as well 31 minutes left on the clock there's your race leader the championship leader kelvin van der linde look at his first win since the seventh round of the championship race one at the nurburgring getting on the gas with the audi his teammate mike rockefeller for now up to second and 16.3 seconds adrift might get to make his mandatory stop maximilian book was going to be a net third but he had that spin that moment rocky got past him but lost a couple of seconds in uh taking the evasive action which might have helped his cause max scott's in fourth place is your real race leader maybe because it all depends where van der linde makes his stop how good the stop is and how good his subsequent laps are but the gap from calvin vanderlinder to max scott's is 26.7 seconds so we want a few more seconds advantage to be able to get out in front of him as into the retirement i'm afraid is nico muller it's right underneath the commentary box that's in the team rosberg crew pushing the car in it's been a really frustrating year for nico muller and for team rosberg when you consider when the driver's team drivers championship with um three-time champion ready rash last year just hasn't come together and the car was looking quicker this weekend look like finally after a bit of a barren spell nico might score some good points here after a pointless weekend in austria but retirement i'm afraid just about sums up his year so you're on board with matt scott's third in the championship on course maybe for 25 points here it's only what 15 points adrift of the championship leader kelvin van der linde it's all tightening up isn't it this championship another race to go here tomorrow two races at hockey night in two weeks time and two races around the streets of nuremberg for the norris ring season finale where anything could happen on a street track and in october what's the weather gonna do so it's gonna be right down to the wire this season fittingly so because we've had terrific battles we've had so many different winners drivers on the podiums twists and turns as phillip ellis works away at the will of his mercedes and having to work very hard to keep marco whitman behind him the safety car is being deployed so safety car is coming out and why is that but whitman then gets the message backs off the gas this is gonna batch them all up now you can make a pit stop during the safety car but it does not count as your mandatory stop and kelvin van der linde has not yet made his mandatory stop so the advantage he's got in terms of time he's gonna totally evaporate now if you're already in the pits when the safety car comes out you're okay shelton founder linda did that at the nurburgring but kelvin hasn't come in yet and this is a disaster for him car parts on the circuit is that the issue if that gets flicked up and it's a windscreen it could be very dangerous indeed so i think it's a car that's gone off i think it's bits of bodywork littering the circuit that's the problem which maybe stems back to that first incident off the start line bits of cars falling off now later in the race so safety car deployed and this is going to be a killer blow for calvin van der linde and for mike rockenfeller and for max pook they've still got to make their pit stops they can't make it during the safety car window and what was it the 27 second advantage over max scott's gets more or less wiped out now come on says marco whitman on the replay get out of the way but philly palace he had all sorts of cars breathing down his neck up to the red bull ring two weeks ago he's a driver that's very good at soaking up the pressure had a long chat with him after that race at the third place in race one at spielberg and he said that is a shame very despondent kelvin van der linde heard on the radio there saying come on they could have warned us safety car comes out there's an accident that's one thing but if it's for debris give us a warning say the safety cars coming out the next lap and then i could have made my pit stop safety car is in this lap you have p1 someone's bmr on the radio hands in the air what's all that about he says i would just go long i guess yes we will monitor the pace and we will that's all he can do isn't it just try and stretch away we know his tires were still good that's a massive blow for kelp and van der linde really unfortunate timing of the safety car there that's always the risk with going longer on your pit stops that's i think part of the reason why people tend to dive in early to get the the pit stop out of the way it's the tyres we know pretty good at lasting i've seen lots of drivers go long in the races and we made uh the pit stop on lap six lap seven lap eight so gamble has for frustrating reasons not worked out he's gonna have his teammate drawing alongside him now mike rockenfellow ready for the two by two restart but uh kelvin van der linde was 27 seconds clear of max scott's he's now max scott's being the first of the pit stoppers he's now going to be what two seconds in front of him so he's effective that's cost him 25 seconds or so so all he can do now is go along just try and get away from everybody else do a pit stop and maybe hope for another safety car that might be his only saving grace we get a pit stop done maybe that's a reason to come in early actually he comes in early now he's gonna go right to the back of the pack isn't he so he caught between a rock and a hard place if you could stretch away do a pit stop drop down the order then there's another safety car i might be back in the game real frustration then for kelvin van der linde gets the race back underway needs mike rockenfeller now to play wingman and to drive the slowest possible second place audi back everybody else away and try and let his teammate go so that will surely be on my rock and fella's mind the 2013 champion hold everybody up as much as you can make your car as wide as you can and i'll just get my head down it's just kelvin found to linda and i'll get away as much as i can before i have to make my pit stop so rocky though breathing down the neck of him is maximilian he's got a real chance of a second dtm race win now he draws alongside but he's on the outside line liam lawson just behind in fourth place marco whitman in fifth balta lottie has dropped down the order behind marco vittman in the first of the lamborghinis there's sophia flores taking uh to the escape route there in the number 99 in green and white scheffler backed audi run by abbott scorsline but she survives and there is kelvin vandalinder in the foreground of the shot number three trying to get away you know trying to get some something salvage something out of this race sheldon van der linde with a queue of cast warmed up behind him and esteban moon now trying to come around the outside of maximilian boot which he does another great move from the overtaker the belgium goes through and somebody off in the background there and screech of tyres somebody's got off just behind from the tail end of the field and they got going again is the question now we've got side by side action with moots and our and ellis all running hand in hand here trying to find his way through as well is christian clean in the mclaren philly palace at the head of the queue having a busy race goes off the road as well careful not to do that too often with the track limits warnings that have been coming so through they come huge battle going on here in the midfield esteban mu goes to the inside down the inside of lucas hour makes contact on the way past and watch the mclaren christian clean he's gonna get past a pair of them on the way out of the turn and he gains two places as a result of all of that max spook has come into the pits meanwhile so esteban moot brave attempt but didn't quite work out lukaszawi glanced at the inside and into the pits and into the garage and retirement max spook is the latest driver to fall out of it through they go i've got a feeling it was esme hawkey having the spin because she's just done a one minute 54. so what we saw was the tyre smoke in the background but esme had a very slow lap there so it's mjorki i think is at a moment but she's carried on and recovered and she'll be actually up to 13th place now with that retirement for max book here's a replay keep your eyes on the background yes it was it was uh coming together with sophia flores who also did have such a slow lap but she did lose a couple of seconds herself so esme hawkey sent spinning in the lamborghini but surviving esteban luke right behind lukaszawa as we replay that run into turn one then a late lunge down the inside as he switched sides that was the contact christian clean said thanks very much and got past the power of them on the way out of the turn sort of dummy move that wasn't he went to the outside threw it back to the inside and it wasn't without contact he's always entertaining that's for sure moved a young 19 year old belgium driver he's another 19 year old liam lawson big opportunity to move into the championship lead here potentially the incident between espionage and severe floor she's under investigation and this is the perspective of liam lawson now who's in fourth place now mike rockenfeller is doing the job he needs to do here for his teammate he's backing them all up 1.6 seconds behind kelvin van der linde he's holding up two of kelvin's big championship rivals gotz and lawson and for that matter whitman as well so the three drivers trying to overtake helping fandolinda in the championship table are all being held up by his teammates at the moment and they're all getting itchy trigger fingers here trying to find their way through whitman desperate to get past lawson so they've got their own into battle here as well it's not just enough to beat calvin van der linda they've got to meet each other as well the four of them in this huge huge slog of a fight that we've got going on for the championship every point he's gonna count every qualifying point every point you can gain in the race it all will matter at the end of the season because it's going to be i think one of the tightest finishes we've ever had in a dtm championship the way this is shaping up and mike rockenfellow has got a part to play in all of this so that's the situation as on track lots of drivers though have dropped out of the race i think we can hear from one of them now down with marina yeah and i'm here with thomas miyamaya it's a bit loud at the moment but let's just wait a second because obviously this strategy it didn't quite work out with kevin fonda so let's just try to get an answer for that thomas in regards to the strategy of calvin obviously with a safety car now that's all all the points he made up all this was probably not good enough now in the end we knew it it's a risk but but we were good from pace virtually we overtook already alice so all was under control and we saw the field where some gaps between the cars there were no fights so we thought there's no safety car risk but from the bollard apart from the bullet so this way say it's safety so it's a hard decision but now with 19 minutes to go do you think there's something that calvin still can do you never know but it will be really really hard all right thank you very much thomas thank you back to you thanks for reader meanwhile marco whitman muscles his way past liam lawson the bmw ahead of the ferrari he was dying to get past wasn't he for a couple of laps he's carrying less success ballast he's got seven kilograms less on the car than liam lawson and maybe that was the difference in the end so the pulse hitter bumped down a position with mercury now behind him here's a replay can't just understeered wide through the gravels there bit of contact maybe maybe not but over the grass and back onto the road quickly came in lawson and that was it through the flash came the bmw of marco vittman committed move down the inside i'm not sure there was contact to see from a different angle but the door opened up bittman went for it and the indie got through and they're on tenterhooks of the vulcan horse garage they've got the star driver and their team this year and they know it that was how close it was from the driver's perspective so change of position key change of position as well and that's effectively going to be the change for second place the difference between scoring 18 points or 15 to a six point swing right back to the pits now and uh let's hear more from varina and another driver that retired is nico muller and why did you have to end was it also part of the start yeah exactly there was kind of a bunch up at the start i don't know uh if liam decided to go very late or what happened but uh my row started to accelerate and braked again i jumped onto the brake got a big hit from the ear and destroyed the front end then it closed the cooling of the brakes so the brakes started boiling and you don't really want to end up without any any brakes at all so uh yeah we had to park the car and unfortunately that's it for today all right nico thank you very much back to you thanks farina yeah somebody else is just having no luck at the moment nico man that's a real shame after two superb years in dtm in 2020 in 2019 a driver going from strength to the strength but just one of those seasons where nothing seems to have gone right for nico uh news for lucas hour a five-second penalty uh for lucas so lucas has got a five-second penalty added to his time at the end of the race he's currently running in tenth place i'm likely going to put him out of the points here and uh might be an opportunity for esteban luke's fear florida pick up points [Music] bearing in mind that kelvin van der linde the 30 seconds it's going to take to make his pit stop at the moment that would drop him to stone lastly 13 cars left running in the race due to all the incidents so with the penalty and for lucas hour five seconds and kelvin van der linde potentially dropping to the back of the field could be that severe flourish he's looking for her first top 10 finish of the season she's 12th at the moment she would potentially gain two places depends how far behind lucas howe she is at the end of the race christian clean has moved ahead of philip ellis on that lap into eighth position in the mclaren so philippe ellis mercedes down to ninth position and there we go the bmw marco whitman finds another gap goes through and maxie gots now has to defend from leo bloss and he gets through as well so two places lost and that's effectively for the lead of the race because the two ahead of them made their pit stops yet so bittman threw almost with a copy book maneuver almost the same maneuver he pulled off on liam lawson and then maxie gotz who was on the back foot couldn't get back onto the line in time to stop the ferrari of lawson coming through either so suddenly he's all switched around and marco bittman is now on course for his race victory here at aston and he went here two years ago in 2019 he's got straight look onto the tail of mike rockenfeller [Music] kelvin van der linde leads the race but 5.8 seconds advantage not enough [Music] six point three seconds clear of mark over here and in the top two abs sports line audience have yet to make their stop so marco bitman is in a key position here to win the race door left open through he went nice brave move on to the curbs then for maxi gotz and come the ferrari and two places lost in the blink of an eye for max scots could have cost him a race win and think about championship points as well from first to third that's costing 10 points that two second period in the race ten points could be a massive hit at the end of the season they like it down at team vulcan horse they would do how pumped up he's very much in this championship fight marco vittman third on the road but he's now your virtual leader in the number 11 bmw however liam lawson he's not out of the running yet he seems to be getting his rhythm his momentum back in the ferrari maxi gots has to try and keep water lottie behind him now even though baltimore is a guest driver he wants to try and get back at the two ahead of him but he's struggling with the tyres a bit now remember he said of qualifying couldn't get any more out of the car i was about a tenth and a half off the ultimate pace bonnie flapping on a little bit on the bmw of mark over and should be a slight concern and he's still being held up here by the 2013 champion mike rockenfeller here they come out of the final she came we've still got just under 14 minutes plus three laps to go marco victor wants to get past he knows that might rocket fella sooner or later he's gonna have to go in the pits but he wants to break free he wants to get away from that ferrari behind him [Music] so marco vittman who picked up two points from qualifying this morning got to within 24 points of the championship lead he's on course now for 25 points maybe because look at liam lawson he's reeling him in this is why marco whitman needs to get past mike rockenfeller but mike rockefeller needs to keep him behind drive as slow a quick lap as you can quick enough to stay ahead of the bmw slow enough to try to give a half a chance to your teammate kelvin fandalindo he's now 6.8 seconds clear of marco vittman but again at the moment makes his pit stop he ends up behind espiorki down in 13th place and out of the points for only the second time this season if it stays like this if he can't get back into the the game so rock and fella doing his best here to keep marco bittman the virtual leader behind him liam lawson pushing on in the ferrari kicking up the dust he's on for 18 points at the moment with kelvin van der linde on for zero points as it stands liam lawson is going to walk away from race one at acid as the new championship leader maxie gots 15 points he's on for at the moment he's 15 behind going into this race so he could draw a level with kelvin vandalinder for second in the championship potentially and you have marco vittman uh moving ahead of kelvin panda linda as well if he if he wins the race he'll move ahead of gotz and slot into second place actually behind liam lawson 24 points behind kelvin van der linde it all depends what kelvin does at the end of this race he's going as long as he can his last lap time is a 134 so his best lap times of 1347 his last lap was a 135 135-5 so the tires are going off now we might have to call it soon and come into the pits trying to get away but the tires are starting to fade now after a long run for kelvin van der linde in the background shelton van der linde have to work very hard in seventh place to keep christian clean behind him and thought a lot he now gets ahead of max scott's no points will be taken away from max but it's another frustration he's struggling with the car at this stage of the race so baltilottie through guest driver won't score points but that puts him on the road at least up to fifth place vanderlinder and rockefeller are gonna drop out of the points once they make their pit stop so whitman will be the leader they're on board with him now lawson second at bortolotti looking for a podium a first podium for t3 motorsport he's a net third we've got to net fourth now in a battle going on for a net fifth place between sheldon founder linda and christian clean jp motorsport get their best results time penalty for marco vittman so whitman's going to get a time penalty here so he's got to push now and that is for contacts with another car it says and you can assume that was the move on liam lawson was that maybe a little just enough contact to send lawson off the road so five second penalty five seconds to add on to marco whitman's time this puts liam lawson back in the driving seat it was for this move and it's not much though he's sort of obscured by maxi gots his car from certain angles it looks like there's no contact from others it looks like they might have been a bit of contest it's not huge you can see it here i guess best of all but even then it's not a massive amount is it but at that speed with that little road remaining there's enough to send lawson off the road that's what they stewards have decided and so marco bitman he's got to get past mike rockefeller now if he can pull more than five seconds clear of liam lawson he could still win the race but he's gonna have to go some to do that so now his challenge is to get past rocking fella and hope that rockefeller holds lawson up could still all twist and turn this although of course rockefeller pretty soon he's gonna have to come in and make a stop and that might be right at the end of the race so if i was marco whitman i would want to get past that audi on this lap or the next and no later bought a lottie maybe he could get a race win here because with whitman's penalty and lawson only just in front of him he's got a real chance of doing that as well what a story that would be the t3 motorsport they can get the lamborghini the first lamborghini victory in the dtm what was a really frustrating weekend for the team last time out in austria so vanderlinda stays out 8.7 seconds ahead of rocking fella both of them get to make their pit stops nine seconds behind the race leader he's marco vittman but he's really 14 seconds behind the race leader because he's got this five second penalty to add to his time which at the moment would put him down to eleventh place i reckon he'll put him out of the points because they're all still fairly tightly packed after the safety car period now what does liam lawson do difficult position this he knows bought a lot he can't take championship points away from him racing driver part of his brain won't want to let anybody come past but if it's a 50 50 he's really he's probably going to have to let baltilottie through as marco vittman desperately now tries to get past mike rockefeller he's got to do this he's got to get past him rocky there concedes the position eventually as marco whitman gets through it's what he absolutely 100 needed to do that to have any chance of winning this race now he's got to fall more than five seconds clear of liam lawson so that makes lib's decision a bit easier now because he wants to win the race to do that he can't really get involved in a fight with murco bortolotti and he now needs to get past the ab sports line audi which is as quickly as he can interesting phase of the race this that five-second penalty has really mixed it up liam lawson fans will say that's absolutely fair marco whitman fans will say what there wasn't that much contact everybody will have their own point of view but it's the stuart's decision and that's what they've come up with and that has given us a really interesting spin on the final part of this race kelvin van der linde staying out here is the replay of how marco whitman muscled his way past mike rockenfeller who forced him right out onto the curbs trying to play wingman here for calvin van der linda marco whitman's got other things to worry about now with this five-second penalty so he would just get his head down now and try and put in qualifying lap after qualifying lap the bmw can he get his second win of the season as merkel brought a lot he tries to look around the outside of liam lawson the ferrari though it stays ahead but it's tight and they've got to be careful here leah can't get sucked into a battle with bortolotti because look marco vittman is already edging clear last lap marco whitman 135.8 liam lawson won 36.5 i lost the best part of a second on that lap alone that keeps happening marco whitman is going to be more than five seconds clear and will nullify this penalty has been given so this are we all going to look back on this race and say that was the race that was where it all changed certainly have sportsline will certainly kelvin van der linde will absolutely not what he needed it was looking good he was looking quick he is quick but the timing of the safety cars completely scuffed kelvin vandalinders race and likely he's going to drop him out of the championship lead and he might even drop out of the top two in the championship the way the points are going is if marco vittman can get a win here by a point he can move ahead of kelvin vanderlinder and liam lawson he's also going to move ahead of kelvin vandalinder so he could could potentially be lawson bittman and vanderlinder is your top three in the championship with maxie got right hot on the heels of fandolinder as well on board with liam lawson again merco bortolotti tries to draw alongside him quicker coming out of the hairpin that's where the extra weight on the ferrari is really killing him in here switches back to the right now look at this darting in the wing mirror going left right left right the lamborghini can't get through great defensive driving from liam lawson in that he doesn't get sucked into hogging the inside line so he's quick out of the corners because he takes the better line into the corners he's not succumbing to the pressure here he's just absorbing it all but he's been made to work really hard by somebody who's not really involved in the championship and fight but from boston's point of view just wants to try and get the best results he can maybe even a win for the team for 2-3 motorsport so everybody's got their own agenda here and it's fascinating stuff last lap for whitman 135-0 last lap for lawson 135-9 he's pulled away by another nine tenths of a second [Music] so lawson is now almost two seconds adrift needs to be five seconds within five seconds of whitman to get the win here his third win on the trot so he again he's got to get past mike rockenfeller who's in a bit of a mobile chicane here deliberately so at the moment trying to hold up kelvin van der linde's championship rivals as much as he can he has to go defensive into turn two liam lawson he's desperately trying to get through but he also has to keep it on the mirrors with bartolotti all over him in the lamborghini as well unbelievable decisions to make here for liam lawson but i think he's made his mind up he's got to go for this now but he goes wide coming out of turn five and here comes martin lottie again side by side ferrari versus lamborghini ferrari just edging ahead just holding onto the position for now this is all helping out marco vittman last lap for marco 135-0 lawson 135-6 he loses another six tenths of a second and he still cannot find a way past mike rockenfeller he's going to be spitting feathers inside the cockpit here the 19 year old watching it on sort of passively half passively is thomas biermeyer because he knows he's mad he's going to lose out come what may here and then you've got maxi gotts now trying to fend off another guest driver in christian clean sheldon van der linde looking if he can to get involved in this podium fight as well just behind in the sole remaining rover racing bmw got three minutes and three laps to go in the race whether the pit stop is going to come for fandor linda and rockefeller just going to go in right at the end of the race now i'm almost on the last lap of the race it will be for van der linde's 25 seconds clear of espio who's in 13th place so he's still i think going to come out at the back of the queue as it stands in 13th place even if they have a really good pit stop lucas our's five-second penalty at the moment puts him behind esteban moot down to 11th place but that could still be tenth place with van der linde and rock back the ninth place couldn't it with van der linda rockefeller to come out [Music] so i think sevilla floresch who's behind esteban moves he's headed for her first championship points in the dtm despite that coming together with espy hawkey mike rockenfeller still doing the best he can here for his teammate and for himself to try and hold them all up mike rockenfeller stays ahead of liam lawson and here comes portalatti again in the multi-colored lamborghini christian clean looking at the inside of max scott's they're both pulled away now from sheldon van der linde in the bmw kelvin van der linde is eight seconds clear of marco vittman at the head of the field whitman is pushing pushing pushing still could get the race win here despite the five-second penalty [Music] no further action in the incident between max scott's and marco whitman so he's not going to pick up another penalty just the one just the one for the liam lawson incident because that was something else that was under question marco bittman 4.9 seconds clue he's almost pulled far enough away and he has he's done it through the next sector it's 5.5 seconds clear now it's enough it's enough for marco whitman to get the race win here lawson's absolutely got now got to get past mike rockefeller if he wants to win the race however even if he's second he could still be should still be the championship leader but he's also thinking well marco whitman he's now the driver i really need to worry about going into the final few races of the season maybe not kelvin van der linde i don't want to lose points to him if we could just get past rock and fella i get back within five seconds of it man i could still get a win here you should give me seven more championship points all of this somehow you gotta try and deal with what you're driving a car at what close to 160 170 miles an hour ridiculous really let's try to have to process all of this while you're out on track the team holding their breaths down at volcanoes they can see now that the gap is big enough max got defending like crazy to try and keep christian cleans mclaren behind him another couple of laps where he dropped back out of the potential race win here maxie gots he was really struggling with the car he seems to got it back a little bit now at the end of the race he's certainly hanging onto them i suppose he's probably been helped by the fact that my rocking fella is keeping them all at bay time's about to run out so it runs out on this lap we get three more laps at the end of this one yep 5.5 5.5 update please how far clear i'm i says marco whitman enough so the team you're far enough clear but sir don't give up yet because it all depends what liam lawson can do if he can get past rock and fella which is going to sooner or later because rocky's going to get going to the pits as he got the tyres left to try and close the gap to the bmw there he gets almost the entire start straight clear now for marco whitman he crosses the line he goes through three laps to go in the race to get from marco whitman to liam lawson he's now 6.7 seconds i reckon so he's comfortably far enough ahead to get the race win once kelvin vanderlinda goes in and makes his pit stop [Music] esme hawkey 13th place could end this race in 11th once vanderlinder and rockingfellow make their stops that'd be her best result of the season so far and again despite that coming together with sophia flores a lot of cars dropping out of the race broughtolotti half looked down the inside this time into turn six not close enough to lawson will be mega frustrated that he cannot find her way past mike rockefeller it's gonna be bittersweet this happy with being the championship leader but frustrated that from pole position it doesn't look like he's quite gonna get the win and have sports line ready as they need to be now for their two drivers to remaining drivers that haven't yet fitted to come in and make their stop kelp in vandalinder despite everything despite all of his efforts i'm afraid looks like he's going to walk out of this race with zero points [Music] and that he could have ill afforded to do with lawson and vitman on and gotz all on fine form at the moment it's not over yet still got five more races to go vandaling has come in so kelvin van der linde comes in marco whitman now we'll pick up the race lead rockefeller stays out tries to hold them all up even more here just for another lap or so here comes kelvin vandalinder then not really gonna have enough time to use the new title carve his way through either rock in a hard place not a bad stop 7.8 seconds from ab sports like they'll be relatively happy with that out he'll go but i think he's gonna be well outside the top 10. liam lawson has just faded away now working the tires hard with the extra weight on the car about defending from mortality than he is about attacking the audi of might rock and fella because here comes the italian this is as close as he's been he's got his nose in front he's going to commit to the move and bortolotti goes through what would be a net second place here for the team for the driver but no points lost for liam lawson with that move because he's a guest driver of also lofty so he won't take the 18 points for second lawson will take 18 points effectively for finishing third here's a replay this is what it looked like from merco's point of view and it was all fairly straightforward he just got better traction coming out of turn five with lawson now suffering with the weight of the car and with those relatively old tyres and marco vittman that gives him even more advantage now to go for the win rocking fella second on the road but he's going to make his pit stop i guess back to worst for kelvin van der linde the pit stop is under investigation now i wish he hadn't got out of bed this morning the way it's gone for him i'm afraid and it started so promisingly didn't it right finally mike rockefeller has gone into the pits why did you do that earlier says liam lawson he was just doing his best for the team so now max scott has to try and defend from christian clean but again in the back of his mind he'll know that christian can't take any points away from him because he too is a guest driver a rocking fella going through on the last lap of the race finally makes his pit stop kelvin fandelinda is 13th when he came back out so we'll be 12th so sophia flores has just moved into 10th place into the championship points as christian clean looks down the inside of max scott's switches back to the outside it's been strong performance again from christian in that mclaren all the way through the course of the weekend and he's right on the tail of a real championship contender here if they come back next year christian clean jp motorsport and that mclaren they better watch out because he's going to be a real front runner he's only had three race weekends but they're getting better and better all the time so the austrian driver pushing on there's a live update of the championship and as i said lawson and fitment are both going to move ahead of kelvin vandalinder gotz is going to be tied with him and then philip ellis still in fifth place is a difficult race today as well but he's still going to pick up seventh place finish here it looks like so the last round yeah it's a p1 concrete julian for your birthday that's for your birthday i think the best present you can get there you go team radio from your race winner marco vittman wins merco bortelotti gets the first podium for a lamborghini in the dtm the first podium for 2-3 motorsports liam lawson gets third not what he wanted but he also gets him the championship lead liam lawson the championship leader for the first time since day one of the championship when he won the first race of the season at monza but valkenhorst are on the march whitman is on the march he's right up there as well having picked up what was a hard fought second win of the season there's the moment marco crossed the line with the five-second penalty he still had enough in hand so whitman wins portalatti second lawson third but lawson will get 18 points for coming home third portal lottie doesn't score points gotz will get 15 points for coming home in fourth place and well done two to christian clean jp motorsport and the mclaren fifth place in the race sheldon van der linde finally the luck the bad luck stops and he gets a strong sixth place finish phillip had his seventh estimate in eighth place and sophia florsch ninth what's the penalties added to lucas hour's time she gained another place so sophia florsch gets her first championship points in the dtm in ninth place luka sauer comes home tenth esme hawkey best results so far on 11th kelvin van der linde a massively frustrated 12th with mike rockenfeller 13th and they were the only finishers in the race there's confirmation of the result then marco vittman takes his second win of the season for vulcan horse motorsports 3.1 seconds clear of merco bought a lotte with liam lawson completing the podium gots clean fandolinda fourth fifth sixth ellis moot florsch and our all in the championship points in race one here at assen and then just three other finishers esme hawkey kelvin van der linde and mike rockenfeller with a lot of cars ending the race with damage triggered really by the incident at the start of the race where there was a concertina marco whitman then now 17 times a dtm race winner and that could be the most important win of the season so far because it leapfrogs him into this championship fight he was creeping up on them anyway but now he's absolutely ignited his title fight can he become a three-time champion can liam lawson become a rookie overall dtm champion what about max scott hadn't won a dtm race before the start of the season he's in the thick of the action and do not rule out kelvin van der linde unlucky today but the car the driver they're both quick they're both still in the fight so a really interesting race here at asa with all sorts of things going on here lots and lots of talking points with the appearance of that safety car in particular the incident off the start but it now means that liam lawson for the first time since the first day of the season moves back into the championship lead kelvin van der linde second he's only second ahead of marco whitman because he's got more wins and max scott's then he's right up there as well bad day at the office for so many drivers though danny hunter they are first of the retirees and there is marco vittman who's got a big fan base the bavarian driver leaps off the top of his falcon horse bmw as i've said a couple of times this weekend it's the qualifying performances that they've got right since that second weekend of the season they have nailed qualifying and that's thrown them into real positions to go for wins and podiums now there we go marco whitman leaps into the arms of the team and that is what it means to him and he had to fight for it with that five-second penalty as well you really really had to dig deep you can go and buy mike rockenfeller a pike later on as well because that helps him out but of course he had to get past rocky first and foremost but then he nailed his laps qualifying lap after qualifying lap after qualifying lap that my friends is why he's a two-time dtm champion so vulcan horst their first season in dtm they're now starting to think with five races to go hang on we could win the championship here a replay of marco vittman calmly at first maybe a little bit emotionally getting on to the top of the car and then the emotion is released the lion roars clenches his fist punches the air several times winner marco vittman superb performance there to take the victory despite the penalty another talking point that coming together with liam lawton but there were many many talking points in what was a fascinating race and uh welcome to dtf merco mortality straight up onto the podium not too bad not too bad at all so hard race for liam lawson but he'll take that championship lead that is the biggest thing that he cares how many races you win at the end of the season really it's just about who gets the most points and that's at the moment he has so uh trophy presentations now begin our top three representatives for our winning team as well first of all liam lawson is back on the podium again following his two wins at spielberg he can quite make the hat trick and he looks a little bit disappointed until he hears how many points he's got podium lamborghini two three modes of sports and mercover portalati all on the podium strong drive from america and you can see exactly why he has been a star of gt racing over the recent years tristan langer who's one of the mechanics for vulcan horse is going to be welcomed to the podium next he's the chief mechanic and he will pick up the uh winners podium trophy for the top team which is vulcan horse motorsport but tristan langer has his moments next to the main podium and of course the biggest war of all is gonna come from volcanoes and from marco bitland fans now because the german driver clenches his fist again congratulated by the other drivers and he rolls onto the top step of the podium now a 17-time dtm race winner and up to second place in the championship we'll now have the german national anthem for marco bittman your race winner [Music] [Applause] [Music] what a race the german national anthem plays here in the netherlands it's another assen race victory for marco vip and his second here at this circuit i think he might like this place and he loves driving that bmw falcon horse motorsport the winning team marco whitman the winning driver and there will be somebody else they'll want to get back in the championship full-time next season great celebrations from tristan langer the chief mechanic of volcanoes throwing the trophy and of course catching it is marco whitman [Applause] that will count as one of the sweetest trophies there everybody your top three for round 11 of dtm 2021 we'll get to hear from all of them very shortly with verina but for now they pose for photos and they'll be the traditional race for the champagne the person always loses out in the race of the champagne he's the one that's least used to collecting it which is going to be tristan langer i'm afraid in this case i suspect he's got no chance against this lot of loss he's gonna go for the drink he's not wasting it he's drinking it actually he's pretty good there tristan langer he's still gonna get splattered there also just holding off right going for the go for the stealth move from behind there right down the neck of marco whitman well liam lawson was a little bit down a couple of rounds ago things were not going his way he had some bad luck at zolda nurburgring didn't work out but ever since we went to austria started to come good for him and he moves into the championship lead but he knows there's a big fight still ahead and he's gonna have to go toe to toe with that man marco whitman so super slo-mo's of your top three drivers liam lawson comes home in third place that's his third consecutive podium finish his seventh podium finish of the year it's a debut podium for merco bought a lotte and the first podium for t3 motorsports in the dtm but it's a win for vulcan horse motorsports bmw and marco vittman and moves up to second place in the championship fascinating stuff out on track let's get some of the insight now with the drivers and let's hear it from verina freitas only on p3 the leader of the championship so you've got to be happy with that you were fighting so hard but now you're eight points ahead so that's fantastic yeah it's pretty crazy race trying to to not end up in a crash i knew that calvin was uh obviously got pretty unlucky with the safety car obviously ruined their strategy but it put us in a good position and maxie was behind me as well at that point so i uh yeah i tried to get um in front but marco uh he was very aggressive today i think uh definitely wanted that win he showed it on track today so but they did a great job they had a fast car once he was able to clear um rock and fella uh he was able to clear off and i i mean it wasn't worth taking the huge risk and ended up in a crash with somebody who's defending for his life even though he's not in the same race so um i don't know it's it is what it is but still really good points today really really happy with that uh hopefully we can carry some of this pace into tomorrow as well all right looking forward to that thank you so much and now let's see he's barely broken into a sweat super fit young man and championship leader in dtm of course twinning this with a campaign in the fia formula two championship busy out racing and uh competing at the front of the field at monza last weekend as well so it's a busy period has a bit of a summer break from the formula two championship but it's all coming thick and fast every weekend now for him over the next couple of months let's hear now from another of our top three finishes then with varina yes and that is mirko who's in p2 a very experienced gt3 driver so you were fighting for even though your guest driver you were fighting for your life there and secured a p2 so how happy are you about the p2 yeah i'm really happy i mean i always approach every racer the same way i try to win so doesn't matter if i'm a guest starter or regular we had some really good battles out there with marco and uh with liam and you know all other guys so it was really fun and at the end of the day i'm really happy with p2 for my debut here in dtm so great day did a great job definitely thank you very much miracle and we're going to grab marco here who's here at marco marco who's still in a conversation with liam there so i'm just going to butt in marco sorry to interrupt marco can i just congratulate you you were fighting so hard and you managed to get your win i mean you had a five second penalty and yet you were fighting so incredibly hard so this must be one of the best victories in your life definitely i mean what a race i knew that we have a pace and especially i love this trick it's just pure fun to drive here and at the beginning i thought ah it doesn't look that great after the pit stop you know we lost again against the merc and the ferraris but obviously i knew we have the fresher tires we stopped later and i think that was the advantage at the end you know i could go or ahead then obviously a better tire better pace attack quite hard liam and maxi in the same way um yeah and then obviously i knew i i got this five seconds penalty and i knew okay somehow i need to pass mike you know and and he was actually on those points where it was maybe good for me to go he was strong and in other points he was weak but i couldn't pass him so then i went for this move on the outside which was quite risky but i knew i only my only chance is really to go for this make the gap which i did then and obviously that's the one of the nicest wins you can have you really did some great moves and very bold moves there um also we have a new leader of the championship now who is liam but you're only eight points behind together with calvin so from here five more races to go i mean anything from here really is still possible yeah i mean it's great now for dtm for the show especially for the fans out there i think it's the best we can have such a tight championship uh fight five races to the end um obviously we made a big step with that win today um which makes me proud makes me proud for my team as well and and especially like my one of my mechanics it's his birthday today so and i told him today i go for pull position and after callie i said ah it was not good enough it's only p2 but i tried to win for you and now i did it i think it's the best present i gave to him absolutely thank you so much marco yeah it really was a crazy race i think we lost seven cars there was a jungle out there but we're really looking forward to tomorrow that's for sure hopefully it's just going to be as exciting as it was today so now here are the highlights of the
