hi there and welcome to the salted peppers YouTube channel where we cook for real life with real food and keep it real simple and nothing is more simple than the ninja foodie or at least I hope I haven't tried it yet so I'm gonna try it with you for the first time I did just get it in the mail yesterday it took about 10 days and I will link below to the unboxing video and I also have a video that I will link below to the pressure test that we did so we know that this appliance is working properly as it should under pressure and I'm gonna start to cook with it so I didn't I've never made this recipe before it's something that I just sort of grab some ingredients that I had around and the end result hopefully will resemble some sort of a like a taco bake okay something really simple that you could make after you know working all day because this shouldn't take any time at all so the first thing I'm gonna do is lift the airfryer lid okay this stays attached to the ninja hoody we're gonna lift it out of the way because we're gonna end up using the pressure cooking lid right now I want to get the ground beef done so I'm gonna turn the ninja foodie on there is a sear sautee button here and going to turn that on it's on high that's what I want and I'm gonna hit a start now just like if you're cooking on a stove there's a heating element under there that's going to heat this pot up we're gonna put some olive oil just a couple of twirls of olive oil on the bottom which I may not even need because this is actually 80/20 ground beef so I may not even need that but this is the first time I'm cooking with it so I wanted to make sure that the ground beef did not stick now one thing if you're new to the ninja foodie you this is a nonstick enamel pot which is the only pot they offer at this time I have heard though that they're working on a stainless steel version so with this pot you do not want to use anything but plastic utensils no metal or you'll scratch the surface and I have heard also that it scratches fairly easily so I have this nifty little gadget that I love and I will link to this below it's a pampered item and I think it's called a mixin chop I'm not exactly sure but this works great when you're browning ground beef whether it's you know on the pan on the stove I mean or in the ninja foodie or on your instant pot so I'm waiting for this to come up to temperature just like you would a frying pan on the sautee mode that might take just a few minutes it looks like the bottom of the pan is a little convex meaning it's just raised slightly in the center which means my oil is going all around the outside so I'm just kind of giving it a little swirl but again this is nonstick so and this is 80/20 so really it's probably not gonna be a problem I'm gonna quiet I don't know if we're gonna hear a sizzle cuz I'm not sure again this is the first time I've cooked with it so you and me we're doing it together so I didn't hear any sizzling so I don't think it's quite hot enough but that's why we can still dump in ingredients we'll know when it comes up to temperature because it will start to sizzle and it's starting right now so that's great it doesn't take too much time okay so we're gonna jump in our onions and our seasoning now this is a homemade seasoning a Mexican seasoning blend and I would put the recipe below as well so you can grab that if you want to try it out or you can use your your favorite you know Mexican seasoning we're gonna put this in and now I'm just going to use this to sort of chop up the need and to get it brown all right I hear that sizzle so we're just gonna let that work and again it's nonstick not supposed to stick all right so I can hear the sizzling in here the ground beef is browning I'm gonna go ahead and add in my green peppers now cuz I do want them to get a little bit a little bit tender here with the saute we're gonna add those in and just kind of give it a mix around it's looking good at smelling even better again this is my first time cooking with a ninja foodies so don't be afraid to use it I mean that's that's what it's there for I've heard so many people who have bought them and then they just sit because they're afraid of the pressure cooker it's really simple they've got so many safeguards in place that I really doubt that anything's gonna happen as far as it blowing up like the old-fashioned ones that went on the stove they were a little bit more a little bit more tricky to use but this has got a lot of safeguards in place so I think everybody's fine ground beef is about halfway done now and it's been a little over two minutes so it hasn't been that long I like the feature of the nonstick the instant pot has a stainless steel insert on stainless steel pot which is good for certain things you know like when I make when I make certain meats I like to actually sear them in the instant pot before I pressure cook them and I believe that a stainless steel pot just really gets a better sear than a than a nonstick but this is this works the reason why I got the ninja foodie is not because I don't love my instant pot I really do but I use it so often especially to make homemade yogurt that it's like in use for eight hours a day and I thought about getting another six quart instant pot and then I saw the ninja foodie so the hamburger mates really cooking up nicely in there and it's just kind of bubbling away I'm gonna give it a little stir and I think we're ready to add in the rest of our ingredients hey if the meat will continue to cook because we're gonna put it under pressure this looks like it's you know almost done so by the time I get the ingredients in we'll put the pressure lid on so let's start so what I did was I just grabbed some stuff literally that I had in the house so I have no idea how this is gonna turn out but I'm hopefully it's gonna be delicious so I have 1 cup of brown rice now you might see it it looks like a little bit more than a cup and that's because I rinsed it to get any debris and stuff off it helps to reduce the clumpiness because it takes that first layer of starch off of the rice so it doesn't clump in my dish because I really want this rice to be incorporated throughout this taco bake as I'm calling it so it hydrated a little bit so it is 1 cup of rice but it just hydrated so I'm gonna dump that in and this is brown rice now you can use white rice if you do use white rice you're gonna decrease the cooking time a little bit because brown rice takes a little longer and we're gonna pour it in our beef stock I actually didn't have any soy use beef consommé which is a canned product not something I usually use I like to make my own stock but hey you know what when you need something cooked something in in a hurry and that's what you have that's what you use so beef stock would work boom beef bone broth would work chicken stock would work whenever yet Walker would work just wouldn't probably give as much flavor to the dish but it would work ok now we're gonna put in the corn the jalapeno peppers this is definitely optional we like things a little spicy here so I cut up a jalapeno pepper no seeds though and the tomatoes go in ok I'm gonna give this give this a nice stir oh gosh it's so pretty - it's festive ok so everything is incorporated now what we're gonna do is put the pressure lid on so I'm gonna go ahead and stop the sear so it's blinking so I'm thinking that means it stopped okay so I'm gonna get this list and it sits down and then turns to lock and first thing you want to do whenever you want to cook under pressure is to go ahead and turn this to the seal it's one of the things that I think I might forget to do from time to time so I want to get in the habit of doing it before I even set the pressure cooker I'm going to set this for 15 minutes if you were using white rice it'll probably take a little bit less time however I don't know how much less because I haven't done that yet but I will be sure to do that and let you know all right so now we're gonna go to the pressure setting and I've got to lean over here so we're gonna hit pressure it's on high that's what I want and the time I want to do is 10 minutes I'm sorry 15 minutes that was what my little handy dandy guide told me about brown rice takes 15 minutes where white rice it says 2 minutes now I think that's a big difference I would probably do 8 to 10 minutes if I was doing white rice but I'm gonna go with the whole 15 we'll see how it works out again first time using it and we hit the start button and you're gonna see this circle around and when I did the pressure test it took about 6 minutes to come up to pressure now I'm thinking because the volume is greater it's going to take a little bit longer than that so I will be back and let you know exactly how much time that took I'm going to set my little stop watch thing and I'll be right back ok so I'm starting to see some steam come out and that is normal so it's building the pressure but it's also equalizing everything and it has been let me check the time here it has been 5 minutes and 46 seconds so what I'm expecting to happen pretty soon is the steam is going to stop this button is going to pop up meaning we are completely pressure and then this will turn to the 15 minute countdown now when I did the pressure test with the water there was a little bit of a delay between the button popping up and it actually coming to pressure so I guess it releases some steam and then builds the pressure back up after the the red button pops up but smells really good in here right now so one of the things about cooking under pressure is you don't always get to smell the food and you can't really interrupt it while it's working or you kind of start over so that's one disadvantage but I'm telling you the results of pressure cooking have been absolutely fantastic for me and I've got several recipes on my blog with the salt of pepper and I will link to those below they are written for the instant pot however they will definitely work fine in your ninja foodie as well okay button popped up and I think this is going to go around just for maybe another minute or so you can really hear stuff going boiling in there and see how long it takes so the button the button popped up at about seven minutes so it took seven minutes to come up to pressure and pop the button but I still see some steam coming out of here so it's not quite counting down to 15 minutes yet so we'll see how long that takes I guess it takes a little about a minute or so okay guys so it took just about nine minutes to come up to full pressure and start the countdown so this is gonna count down from 15 minutes down to zero and my key form button is off so next because we're gonna do something else now if you wanted to if you were gonna use the air fryer and you wanted to keep this on keep warm after it cooks because maybe you're not gonna serve it right away you can certainly turn that function on but mine is off right now so now we just kind of wait and this is the time where you go do something else that's the beauty of cooking under pressure is that you can just go and relax a little bit you don't have to stand at the stove and babysit everything because this magic ninja foodie is gonna do all the work for us so we'll check back in when it's almost done okay see in a few I'm so excited we have just under five minutes and then I'm going to do a quick release of this which means that I'm going to manually release the pressure right away with a lot of meats that you cook you want to allow them to natural release really helps with the flavor and the texture of the meat but with this I don't need to do that so I get to quick release we'll do that in four minutes and 15 seconds almost and then we're gonna put this cheese blend which this is my own cheese blend but you can use any type of cheeses that you like you know you can even buy them that are already shredded for you I just like to buy them on sale and I shred them and I keep them in the freezer so this is my Mexican blend I'm gonna put that on top and then we're gonna down the tender crisper airfryer part of this and hopefully get a really nice brown delicious melty cheese on top so we'll say I'll be right back we just have a minute left before I'm gonna manually release this and I just wanted to point out that you definitely want to use a potholder or some other heat-resistant glove something to move this vent also what I found is approaching it from this angle is better than walking over here because this steam is going to shoot out and it could get in your face and you could get burned so although that's not happened to me and with the instant pot just want to share a little safety tip there so 30 seconds and let's do this I'm so excited I can't wait to smell it it's one thing you can't smell you can't smell anything right now because it's all under pressure so it's all right in there and I'm hoping that I put in just enough liquid for that rice to absorb it all so it's a nice bake yeah it's done all right so here I go I'm gonna go and turn this the moment of truth did this recipe work out we'll say it's just about finished the button popped down now I should be able to release my lid and I can alright here we go let's see alright it looks good it's a little soupy er then I would have liked I might decrease the amount of liquid I'm going to give it a stir it's not too bad does kind of more resemble a soup I would have preferred to have it a little bit more concentrated and I think the issue probably came in that I didn't drain the tomatoes before I added them in and because everything's kept under pressure you don't have the evaporation that you do on the stovetop or in the oven so I would probably take the volume of water down and do this recipe again because it absolutely it looks fantastic it's beautiful but we're gonna keep rolling with this and see what happens so I'm gonna put this Mexican blend on top and just just scatter it all over I have about two cups of cheese here you could use more less you can actually skip the cheese and use it use this recipe as a soup because that's what it kind of reminds me of right now but I really want to use this air fryer tender crisper lid so we're gonna put this down now I have not used this before let's see okay so we go to air Kris and I'm gonna put the temperature up to the maximum which is 400 the temperature goes up to 400 or goes down to 300 but I'm gonna go all the way up to 400 and I think I'm gonna do this for let's start with three minutes I don't really want to burn the cheese's first time I'm using the ninja foodie I'm gonna err on the side of caution and hit start so immediately you hear the fan kind of kick in this does not latch by the way so it's not something that you can open it up and take a peek at things when you do open it up it turns off put it down it turns on so you can't kind of keep an eye on things that's a good feature I like that so let's see what happens okay so it is done and I've taken a peek and what I'm afraid what I was afraid of was gonna happen has happened it's just a little too runny to be considered a fake oh yeah a little bit too much so instead of like scrapping dinner oh it's ruined don't do that stir this in Oh cuz it's oh my gosh looks so good so we're gonna stir this in and what I'm gonna do is take out some of the liquid okay this is a step I was not planning on but that's what happens when you're cooking especially when you're cooking something new with the new appliance for the first time you grab my pot holders and I'm just gonna put this through a strainer oh my goodness it smells so good though really and then I'm running it back in let the extra juice run off here I don't have to get it all out this is what I want y'all to do when you're practicing with a new appliance or a new recipe is don't give up if things don't work out I mean that's kind of the beauty of cooking you can just switch things up so it didn't work out the way I planned it's okay take the pot back out I don't want to get this all over ninja foodie then I'm just gonna dump it back in the pot now this is some cheesy goodness guys oh my god lots of cheese going on there I don't have to go into that I'll put it back in okay so now that we've removed probably about two cups which I was hoping the rice would would have absorbed but it didn't and I think that's because I didn't drain the fat from the hammer should have done that okay it's a learning curve that's what happens I also thought about doing a bread crumb topping with some cheese and that would have been delicious but I didn't but you know what why don't we do it right now I mean I've got some bread crumbs so let me go grab those all right so I just grabbed some bread crumbs and a little bit more cheese I mean you know you can't have too much cheese you know I try to eat healthy cheese's like the thing that I love so I'm gonna dump about two cups of cheese Oh what the heck use it off just a slightly frozen but that is not gonna make it either and then we're gonna put in some bread crumbs now ordinarily if you're gonna make a crust with bread crumbs you would definitely want to add some butter to it to get that crisp eNOS I'm thinking that the cheese is gonna add the fat that we need so I'm just gonna mix this up a little bit and I think this time I'm gonna go for ten minutes so this looks absolutely beautiful and I did give it a little taste and it is good it tastes delicious so this is the thing guys you know when you're when you're cooking something doesn't work out don't scrap it don't give up just keep just keep going modify it and if you ever need any pointers or help or anything that's what I'm here for jump on over to Facebook and join our group and that is called I'll leave the link down but it is called ninja foodie fresh meaning that we are cooking with as many fresh ingredients as we can so that's how I like cook I don't use a lot of boxes or packaged food ordinarily I might even make my own bread crumb but I didn't do that today okay so this looks great I'm actually more excited now with the bread crumbs I think that's gonna give it a really nice crispy texture on top so we are going to do let me look for my buttons err crisp 398 I want to go up to 400 and I'm gonna do it for 15 minutes now I'll check it probably at the 5 minute mark the 10 minute mark and again when you lift this up it does turn off so you can keep an eye on things alright I'm gonna go wash my hands and I'll be right back ok so we're about 5 minutes in here and I'm just gonna take a quick peek just to see how things are going oh my goodness that looks fantastic I still think I want to go just a little bit longer but probably not the whole 15 I think I'm gonna go maybe another 3 minutes but man that looks good it's getting nicely brown on the top oh that cheese looks amazing it smells amazing all right guys I'm gonna check this at when it's about seven minutes left I don't want to burn the cheese and since this is the first time we're using this let's give it a check here oh I think we're done Wow okay so that's the perfect time so that would have been eight minutes under the airfryer and it is beautiful I don't know if you can hear that but that is the crust that it made on top Oh lovely absolutely lovely alright so let's give it a try so I'm just gonna come in here with my spoon remember no metal this is a nonstick and I'm just gonna scoop out some oh my look at how beautiful that is oh yeah I'd be happy happy if somebody served me this alright let it cool just a minute and take a taste definitely when I get someone have cheese wow this is amazing the rice is perfect all the textures of the vegetables are good wonderful flavor [Music] hmm and this frisky top that is the reason why I got in the ditch of Duty Oh fantastic oh my that's good so what I'm gonna do is revamp this recipe get it up on the salt and pepper Bluff for you guys but you saw it here for the first time definitely give me a thumbs up if you liked the video hit the little bell to subscribe and also join our Facebook group ninja foodie fresh where we cook
