Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
This sounds like it could be really harmful to and exploitative of children.
These TikTok people promoting this seem fairly evil to me. They're just bad people.
Though I suppose that's true for a lot of that website.
I saw this one post by a shifter. And I'm pretty sure they're not offended because of James vid, they're offended because James fans are sending them hate and death threats. Opinions are fine, but sending death threats because their opinions and belief don't match yours, it's not a valid opinion.
Oh and someone commented on his vid that: “Shifting hate is justified.”
Tbh he is right and it's concerning to see prople be offended by it.
My one and only issue with the reality shifting is placing validity of belief on success. That is dangerous. Telling a child they cant escape to their fantasy because they did not believe in the idea to me is manipulative and cruel. Just no.
Their are sources that when people constantly think about things sometimes they can create change their dreams and even influence their memories. For example their is a documented case of therapist who dealt with child abuse specifically. one day she woke up and claimed that she was abused her father. Drama and conflict and ensued the daughter and father cut each other out. Over time she realized she imagined it but the damage was done.
It is true we know nothing about the mind but I believe its more probable for an individual to manufacture the memory rather than actually transporting their consciousness to a reality they wanted to go to based on 'script'
I disagree with hate and death threats for common sense reasons and Whether you like it not the group tends ignore claims that as long as you are not harming anyone what does it matter with what they believe.
But I also feel that a particular point irrational beliefs breed dysfunction and mentally harmful.
A strong desire for escapism leads to more dangerous thinking like ideas such as permanent shifting(staying in your made up reality) or a decrease in motivation or belief boosters. The idea you sounds like tricking yourself or avoiding valid arguments
I believe it can be harmful, I would not give any shits if the individual was aware and acknowledged they were dreaming or making up memories because their instances where this could be useful. can you learn when you dream, to what extent can you create and enjoy.
TlDR: parallel realities is idiotic but dreaming itself is fine. Hate is never valid but logic is fine.
If you are looking for some real research and science on the subject, try looking up the work of Dr Eli Somer ,a psychological researcher in Haifa, on the concepts of “immersive daydreaming” and “Maladaptive Daydreaming”, (which is where people become addicted to their daydreaming and set aside real life for many hours a day... sometimes become desperate and seek psychological help because they cannot give up the addiction to their fantasy world). Dr. Somer and his colleagues outline the typical personality characteristics of the “fantasy prone personality”. I rather doubt that everyone can do it unless they have the right capacities… whether because they’ve been traumatized or because they have them naturally, for example Schizotypal personalities. The people who have this ability to fantasize vividly have been doing it forever in all times and places. The typical themes are “the ideal family, the ideal friendship circle, being successful and famous or having magical or sexual adventures. In the stories of “ reality shifting” we only hear about the people who aspire or those who “succeed”. We never hear about those who try and fail. If you’re not already a “fantasy prone personality”, I suspect that the psychological discipline required to achieve a state of immersive Daydreaming would probably be equivalent to a high-level meditation training… And beyond the capacities of most teenagers. Those who find themselves capable of doing it after one or two attempts are probably fantasy prone personalities who have just never tapped into the idea of using a pre-existing imaginary world like Hogwarts. All this stuff about parallel universes is just grandiose nonsense.
