that are in the room and watching online it is a blessing to be in the house of the lord one more time we're thankful that god has spared us to see another sabbath day and i want you to join me this morning by standing up if you're in this sanctuary waving your hands and sharing this if you're watching online as we welcome and tell the holy spirit your presence is welcome here we adore you father god we bless your name we give your name the praise the glory and the honor because he's been that merciful to us just this week just this day he let us wake up this morning and see a new day he kept us safe from harm and danger that came come across our way this week and for that lord we give you praise for just being god we give you praise we are ready to step into the joy of the lord the freedom is in the joy of the lord everything that we need is in him he is our source so god we bless your name in this place hallelujah [Music] hallelujah [Music] sing this with me sing step into the joy of the lord step into the joy of the lord step into the joy of the lord step into the joy of the lord song says my heart's been thirsty and hungry for more my soul's been waiting for you to been waiting is [Music] [Music] [Music] hallelujah praise the lord come on hallelujah praise the lord there is freedom in the lord where the spirit of the lord is there is liberty isn't that right there is a liberty in the spirit of the lord so we say hallelujah this morning for the liberty and the freedom that we have in the lord our god i'm going to ask that we stand for the reading of the word and we find our scripture today in the book of isaiah chapter 12 verses 2 through 6. so there's value in reading the word if we can just even if you have it on your phone go ahead and go to the book of isaiah chapter 12 verses 2 through 6. and it reads see god has come to save me i will trust in him and not be afraid the lord god is my strength and my song he has given me the victory hallelujah he has given me the victory declaring decree it he has given us the victory with joy you will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation in that wonderful day you will sing thank the lord praise his name can we say that out loud thank the lord praise his name and you see there's an exclamation mark after those words thank the lord we say that with excitement with expectation we thank the lord and we praise his name hallelujah tell the nations what he has done give a testimony tell the nations what the lord has done let them know how mighty he is sing the to the lord sing to the lord why because he has done wonderful things he has done excellent things make his praise around the world make his praise known around the world make his praise known around the world let all the people of jerusalem shout his praise let all the people of my pistol shout his praise let the people of my pistol shout his praise let my pistol give a testimony let all the people of jerusalem shout his praise let us shout his praise [Music] hallelujah for great is the holy one of israel who lives among you for great is the holy one of israel where does he live among me make it personal he lives among me he is in in the in the midst of my home in my community he lives among me that means his presence to us it is one that is tangible for great is the holy one of israel who lives among you amen [Music] be strong my brother be strong my sister be strong wherever this life leads you [Music] let me encourage you let me speak life to you you can depend on god to see you through you can depend on me to pray for you [Music] pray [Music] i'm gonna keep on praying [Music] i'm gonna keep on praying for you pray i'm gonna keep keep on praying for you you can't depend on god to see you through [Music] you can't depend [Music] [Music] if we can just keep the atmosphere of prayer you can depend on god he's gonna see you through you can depend on me [Music] if we can get into the posture of of prayer for those of us that are in the bible [Music] pull on him [Music] come on and pull on him depend on him [Music] and as we pray believe that what we are getting ready to declare and decree is yes and it is amen hallelujah we depend on god to see us through [Music] we believe that god is going to see us through because it is his promise he is faithful he will see us through he has seen us through and if we can just get still in his presence hallelujah father god we worship we adore you we lift you up we magnify your name we magnify your name you alone are worthy alpha omega you are the author and the finisher of our faith alpha and omega it is in you that we move and we have our being alpha and omega you are our helper and so we look to you from whence cometh our help and we declaring we decreed this day our help comes only from you our creator the maker of heaven and earth or we humble ourselves before you today oh god we seek your face we acknowledge you right now at this hour and as we acknowledge you as we take a mirror and we look and we see our reflection against yours we recognize that we are broken we recognize that we fall short of your glory we recognize even the best of what we have to offer is but filthy rags compared to you and so we come with a humble spirit and we ask of you today o god that you would cleanse us from all unrighteousness we confess our sins we confess right now there's like such a heavy spirit of doubt we confess our doubt father we confess right now we really don't know if we trust you right now some of us really don't know that some of us are angry with you right now come on just tell god the truth some of us are questioning whether or not this is the right way for us to go if it's even worth it god and we confess we confess because in our confession you say that you are faithful you say that where we are weak your strength will be perfected but your strength cannot be perfected if we don't tell the truth if we don't admit our weaknesses and so today we admit our heart is a little bit weary lord we're just a little bit tired uh we're a little bit tired god [Music] we're about ready to get in the bed and call it a day and so we confess that lord we confess our shortcomings we confess our doubt we confess our crooked ways and we're asking of you this day help [Music] help help oh god we send out an so answer if you don't do something lord uh we don't know if we're gonna make it out of this thing [Music] and so god we say help holy spirit help [Music] father you said you are the anchor that holds you said lord god you you are our strength where we are weak you are the shelter and so we come to find strength in you we come because we are weak we come because we are broken we come because we don't know what is going on we come because we are blinded we come oh god because uh we just don't have a clue you say if we lack wisdom to come to you and so here we are here we are we draw near to you and we have expectations that you are here this day and you draw near to us and so we thank you that you are jehovah to sit canoe you are the one that covers us with your robe of righteousness it's not by the any might that we have or any power that we have it's not anything that we possess in our flesh but it is by your spirit of god that we can overcome all things and so we submit to you jehovah techno and you cover us with your robe of righteousness and so now we stand as righteous [Music] before your throne and you present us faultless and so now that we know that we are righteous we flip the script on the enemy hallelujah and we come boldly before the throne hallelujah now we come boldly before the throne according to your word luke 10 19 that you have given us the power to trample on the serpents the scorpions and the lions and you said that nothing can harm us because we have power in you and so we come boldly before the throne we come boldly with the power that we have in yeshua messiah our lord and savior we come boldly with the power that we have by the blood of jesus the blood of jesus and so we stand firm we stand firm we stand firm because you are the one that keeps us from falling and we declaring we decree this day we cancel that spirit of poverty in our mind we recognize we are your children sons and daughters of the most high god princes and princesses kings and queens we come boldly before the throne of grace we come boldly why because you say you have given us the key to the kingdom [Music] we have the key to the kingdom the lord says and so open the door the lord says and walk through behold i have set before you an open door the door that i have set before you no one can close it no one can close it so use your key by the power that has been given to you we use our key we open the door to peace to joy to love to forgiveness to strength to freedom we are free we enjoy this life that you have given to us because you said you died that we may have life in heaven more abundantly and so we open the door to abundant life in you we cancel fear we cancel doubt we cancel sickness and disease because you say in psalm 91 oh god that because we dwell in you no plague or disease come near our dwelling place and so we cancel it oh god be it covet cancer whatever it is whatever the enemy decides to to make up for within the next minute or whatever it is whatever variant we don't care what it is or what it's called we don't care but we know that we have the alpha in the omega and we know that in you we are safe we are secure you are the anchor that holds and so lord we thank you today that we are free free to live free to have expectations uh free to build free to expand because you have enlarged our territory and so we lift you up we honor you we release a spirit of praise not only over those in this sanctuary but online that your spirit goes forth manifests in the homes manifest in the hearts of your children and let them have freedom in you today that they use their key they open the door and they walk through knowing that no one can shut it because you have given them power and authority and so lord we love you o god we worship you great and mighty jehovah and we declare and we decree all things all things work together for our good because we are yours and we are called according to your purpose and no weapon no weapon no weapon no weapon no weapon formed against us prospers in jesus name yeshua messiah the great outfit in the omega the great i am in a soul and it manifests now manifest now manifest now in jesus name hallelujah you pray for me and watch god change things hallelujah glory to god he is worthy of all praise hallelujah god we bless your name in this place you are worthy of all the praise god we thank you lord we bless your name god hallelujah hallelujah good morning church family it is offering time and this morning i want to talk to you about stewardship stewardship that's not a word we hear all the time but it's a very important one let's consider what it means according to dictionary.com stewardship is the responsible overseeing and protection of something considered worth caring for and preserving and when we think of things worth caring for and preserving what comes to your mind is it your home is it your car is it this church building what about your finances certainly something to care for and preserve right one way that we steward our finances is by deliberately deciding how we will use the money that we have whether you have ten dollars or ten thousand dollars in your bank account right now stewarding that money involves deciding what to do with it do you save it do you spend it do you donate it do you invest it if you spend it what do you spend it on as we decide to do what as we decide what to do with the money that god has entrusted to us it only makes sense that we use the money in a way that honors him and one way that we do that is through tithing today as we prepare our tithes and offerings consider how to become more deliberate with the way that you spend your money the way that you steward your finances when you tithe you're essentially giving back a portion back to god what he has entrusted to us so this morning you could give by going to uh to our church website you could give me a text or you may choose to drop off your donation but no matter what let's have a heart that is postured towards god now let us pray dear god we thank you for this moment god we thank you for the opportunity to give today lord god and lord we know that you have given so much to us you gave your life for us oh god and we just want to say thank you and lord we thank you for the the gifts and the talents and the money that you have given to us and we pray o god that we would use these things to bring glory into your name we pray oh god that you be with each and every person here each and every family represented oh god and help us to continue to fight the good fight of faith so lord god we thank you for this moment we praise your name in jesus name i pray amen has god done anything for you lately [Music] has god done anything for you today did you deserve it but he still because of his grace and mercy decides to keep doing great things for us hallelujah [Music] he keeps on doing great things [Music] doing great and i still wouldn't have enough time to give his name the praise if i had ten thousand hands i knew [Music] the song has been in my spirit all week so this is just the overflow god keeps on doing great things for me think about all he's done over your life you raise your hand and raise your voice and say he keeps on doing great things for me when every door was closed everyone said no but god keeps on doing great things for me for me [Music] now that song is probably older than i am but i remember there was a time in my life i was living in philadelphia and i heard that song on the radio every morning like a reminder hello everything every blessing every open door every closed door every breath that you take is a blessing from god and for that we owe him our praise for him just being god we owe him our praise so may we always be reminded that we are here because we have been rescued by a loving savior who gave his only son to pay the ultimate price for us and for that we can never turn back for that we can never turn back our response must always be praised our response must always be praised our response must always be praised so we praise your name this morning for all that you are for being a sovereign god a restorer a healer you have rescued my life [Music] you have rescued my life [Music] [Music] oh you have a rescue mine and i'm never going back my response is the words that we sing this is the activation of that some days it's easier some days it's not this is where we claim and cling to his word to his promises that it won't take us out [Music] there is an end in mind as we go through everything and expect it in hallelujah so i fight on my knees as the lord has his armies of angels surrounding me i will lift up my eyes to the hill promise come with my help my help cometh from the lord the lord who made heaven he said he will not sing church thy foot thy foot the lord [Music] oh the lord is my keeper [Music] upon thy right hand [Music] upon thy [Music] shall not smite me by day nor the moon by night he shall preserve my soul even forever [Music] my [Music] rest assured be confident hallelujah [Music] [Music] my help cometh from the lord the lord which made heaven and earth he said [Music] he will not slumber nor sleep oh the lord is ashamed right [Music] [Music] he shall preserve my soul [Music] [Music] if you believe it this morning [Music] from [Music] is [Music] at night [Music] god will preserve my soul even forever my [Music] [Music] and i can't see my way i know god has got me in this thing [Music] you are the source of my strength [Music] you are the strength of [Music] myself [Music] remember he's your strength remember he's your strong tower he's your way out of nowhere he's your doctor in the sick room he's your lawyer in the courtroom he's your help this morning i need his help every day every day and every way all of my help comes from you hallelujah [Music] somebody ought to say amen [Music] how many know that your help comes from the lord somebody ought to say glory somebody ought to say thank you jesus the song says that the sun shall not smite me by day you know the moon by night because my help comes from a greater source of power oh just put your hands together for your god and your savior and your lord if you know that he has been good to you if he's better than better than you than you've been to yourself just go ahead and say glory if he has been your sustainer and he has been your ever-present help in your time of trouble and need go ahead and say thank you jesus i thank the lord on this morning because i know where my help comes from my help doesn't come from bank of america my help doesn't come from memorial west my help does not come from from from from ron desantis or even from joe biden somebody ought to say man my help doesn't come from congress or even a stimulus check my help somebody ought to say my help my help comes from jehovah jireh my help comes from jehovah rapha my help comes from the god who has never failed me yet [Music] help comes from a god who can do anything but fail it comes from jehovah god and because of that i have peace in the midst of my storm i have joy in spite of my troubles because my health is coming from a place where the well never runs dry [Music] oh i wish i wish i had a praying church in here this morning where you understood that listen some things can dry up stimulus checks come and go but i've come to let you know that when god decides to open up the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that you begin to walk into overflow that you that your bread and water is sure you don't believe me ask that old lady who the prophet said wait a minute go ahead and make me some some bread and and she said wait a minute i was about to use this little bit of bread to feed me and my son before we die but but in obedience to the word from the man of god she made a little bit of bread for the prophet and the bible says that her bread and water for three plus years never ran out somebody ought to say that that lady could sing this song today and say my help [Music] my help comes from jehovah god so we just bless his name in the place today i just want to thank sister flormond for just leading us in powerful time of prayer i want to thank sister busan for just ushering us afresh into the presence of almighty god we are just grateful today to be in this presence and sister floor man you can come back and pray any day amen that's a powerful praying spirit and i just appreciate your obedience to be used by god to bless us in this place today i just is glad to see you who have uh braved to come out into church on the day i know i know we have to be very careful with with the stuff that's going wrong today and we are attempting to do that and uh and i know you want to be careful uh but but somebody just said this morning i just it's if it means all the same to you i just might as well come into the house of the lord somebody ought to say amen david said i was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of the lord and worship him who created the heaven the earth the sea and all that is in the midst and so we just bless his name in this place on this morning i just got a few little gifts i want to give to somebody today i just brought a few little gifts to say you know i'm just glad to see you in the house you could have stayed home you could have been watching online but you decided to be in god's house my first gift is from a place that is near and dear to my heart is his holy name uh uh grab your bibles with me on this morning you know i was reading a study the other day and and and uh and the study that i was reading was saying that because of the pandemic and because of uh you know everybody having having to be on zoom calls and and on the internet and uh watching uh church doing work doing so much through a uh an internet screen a tv screen a a monitor that that it says that the the study says is that uh people's um attention span has dramatically dwindled uh it has dramatically dwindled and and uh and and as i was reading that they're saying that uh that if you are a public speaker or a preacher that you need to you need to cut your sermons down shorter somebody ought to say somebody y'all been praying against me y'all been praying against me uh i can't say amen today but but in reading and reading the information i just realized that that and this is what's important for us as church people sometimes we read the information but we do not apply it we do not apply it but if the people can't sustain longevity as as martin luther king says longevity has its place uh but i believe in this time and age that we gotta shorten it down and i'm just not preaching to myself i'm preaching to talking to preachers and others uh you know uh if people's attention span that means that you might keep preaching it but they ain't hearing it somebody ought to say amen you might keep preaching it but they can't receive it uh they nodding off their mind is wandering and so so so pray for me as i'm beginning to to make sure i align myself with the data let me tell you something i knew a great preacher his name was benjamin reeves dr benjamin reeves who taught homiletics at uh at oakwood and i was blessed to take one of his homeless class dr benjamin reeves never preached a sermon over half an hour but let me tell you there were some of the most powerful sermons you ever did want to listen to because because he made sure that what he was saying was relevant and potent and right to the point and so i'm um so pray for me as i begin to make sure i adapt to what is happening in the times also that means that you've got to adjust if you're going to tune in or you're going to tune in later that that means that you might miss the message in the word of god somebody ought to say amen that means that you get to church don't don't don't come in uh too late because you we might be heading home when you walk into the building and so so i just think it just means that we have to uh we have to prepare ourselves turn your bibles with me to book of james chapter one james chapter one and i want to look at verses 12 through verse 15 on today in the book of james chapter 1 verses 12 through 15 i'm going to begin today a series on overcoming temptation how many of you uh have temptation in your life raise your hand overcoming temptation raise your hand every hand should go up in the building i don't i don't care who you are black white yellow brown rich poor skinny little larger i don't care where you come from whether it's the east west north or south we all experience temptation uh that's a part and parcel of being alive and and so i believe it is crucial and important that from time to time as a preacher that we talk about and we delve into this whole subject matter of being able to overcome and win over temptation and so for the next two weeks i'm going to take you on a journey that i believe that god has placed in my spirit on my heart so that it will instruct and inform you to be able to overcome and uh and and win over temptation as we look through the bible in james chapter 1 and verse 12 i'm going to reading from the new living translation of the word of god and the bible says this james chapter 1 and and and verse 12. it says god blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation afterward they will receive the crown of life that god has promised to those who love him and remember when you are being tempted do not say god is tempting me i want you to i want you to listen what that word of god says and let me just repeat that one more time and remember when you are being tempted do not say that god is tempting me because god is never tempted to do wrong and he never tips anyone else temptation comes from our own desires which entice us and drag us away these desires give birth to sinful actions and when sin is allowed to grow everybody say allowed to grow in the text said when sin is allowed to grow it gives birth to death somebody say help me holy ghost uh when sin is allowed to grow it it gives birth to death for just a few minutes i want to preach to you on the series overcoming temptation uh just look at somebody and say don't let it grow don't don't let it grow don't let it grow let us pray father god we thank you in this place today that you are alpha and the omega the beginning and the end the first and the last father god i pray today as we dive into your word instruct us encourage us direct us correct us is my prayer in jesus name let somebody say amen again as i mentioned earlier that if you are breathing if you are walking if you are uh uh moving about and have the free motion and motor skills of your limbs what i want you to understand is this is that temptation is part and parcel and commonplace in your life in fact let me go one step further whether you are a christian or a buddhist a catholic or uh non-denominational whether you are islam or or sikh i've come to let you know that you cannot escape this phenomenon that the scripture calls temptation uh you you are going to be tempted no matter what i i don't care how long you've been in church i don't care how many scripture texts you can quote i don't care how many bibles you have in different versions in different languages i don't care if you put the bible in the back of the window of your vehicle or if you keep it up under your arm when you walk about in the street no matter what you do temptation is coming for you oh yes it is yes it is and and the more i i i grow in grace is the more i have come to recognize that the object of christianity is not to get to the place where you are not tempted uh the object in christianity and in this christian life is to get to the place where you can recognize you can assess and overcome temptation in your life oh let me ask you one more time how many of you have been tempted this week somebody ought to tell the truth and and shame the devil if you've been tempted this week i'm raising my own hand i've been tempted this week because temptation is normal and commonplace i know i know temptation varies some of you were tempted to eat a big mac uh some of you were tempted to to cheat on on on your diet it doesn't matter some of you were tempted to worse some of you were tempted to to turn to the bottle when the stress got high some of you were tempted to email somebody or text somebody you know the lord had told you you had better let them go and go the other i'm talking about real temptation in this don't you sit there and act like you ain't never been tempted don't you sit there and act like you haven't held the phone in your hand with your hands trembling know that you ought to put it down i'm talking about real temptation in this place today it captures every single person on the planet i don't care who you are i don't care if you went to church school or public school i don't care if you went to ivy league or no league you are going to be struggling with and dealing with temptation and that's why james in his book begins to pin some words dealing with the subject matter of temptation of which we all on the planet experience and we need to know how to deal with it and so james in chapter 1 and verse 12 he says something that is a little bit ironic to me in james chapter 1 verse 12 he says god blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation do you you don't read your bible so quickly that you do not pick up on some of these nuances right there in scriptures i paused and i read it i said now wait a minute now uh it said that god blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation i want to pause right there because i think it's really important to understand something because because when you read your scripture text there are some people who are under the the misconception that that when they are tempted it is god that tempts them i want you to understand the bible tells us as well if you continue reading it says that god doesn't tempt anybody because god does not have a proclivity in his being that bends towards evil or the wrong i want you to hear me on today that when you are tempted it is not god that is tempting you in fact let me clarify it really quickly god can test you but god will never tempt you let me make it plain god will sometimes uh allow you to go through a test uh where you have uh uh choices uh and and and let me let me in fact let me use a bible character the bible says that that god tested abraham when he asks him to offer up as a sacrifice his only son and the bible says that that when abraham lifted up the knife to slay his son a voice from heaven came through and said touch not a hair on that boy but it also went on to say that now i know that your faith is not just a faith on paper or your faith is not just a faith that you talk about to people but that your faith is a level of faith that is so real that your willingness to obedience to the voice of god trumps everything else god does not tempt you to sin but sometimes he will test you to see if whether or not you are truly a follower of jesus christ but here's what here's what's intriguing in the tests in the text the text says that god blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation oh somebody ought to say amen louder than that because because it means that if i am by virtue of being on the planet and by virtue of calling myself a believer and by virtue of the fact that tests and temptation come to everybody now and let me clarify just a little bit uh testing comes to those who are believers tim uh temptation comes to everybody who walks the planet i want you i want you to understand that you see i'm tested because when i claim the name jesus christ uh you gotta understand that the devil is the accuser of the brethren that means that the devil is always walking around saying you know what look at her she thinks that she's such a big powerful christian look at him he he walk around talking about jesus christ look at them they they go to mount pisgah and they they pay their tithes and offerings and or not they pay they return their tithes and offerings because you can't pay nothing to god because god don't owe nobody nathan you return your time and sometimes uh uh the temptation is to think that that that listen uh uh because of that that that god owes me let me say when you are a christian god places you through tests because it is in testing that you begin to grow oh how can i help somebody can i see a hand of my educators in here can i just see a fan of some of the educators in here if you are an educator you understand you are able to evaluate whether or not the material that you are trying to insert into the brains of your students is is is taking hold that when you test them the test reveals whether or not they uh are able to understand and or comprehend now let me clarify the test doesn't always reflect that the teacher is not teaching what needs to be taught sometimes god can teach us what we need to understand but we end up failing the test anyhow because sometimes what god is trying to teach us goes in one ear and out the other i know i know y'all y'all don't want to say amen sometimes y'all failing the test it's not because the testor has not done his or her job sometimes you failed the test but because the testor gives you the information you know how i was talking to my kids during the pandemic before they went back to school and they were saying dad i don't understand i had a friend straight up fail open book test he said i can't understand it the teacher let us open the book the answers were in the book and this joke a fail the open book tests that you can't blame anybody when you fail an open book test it is not the testor whose fault it is when you fail it is the testy here's what i love about this texas is god blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation that means when you go through temptation there there is a mindset and let me let me let me help somebody on next week i'm going to give you a series of ways to overcome temptation but i'm not going to start that this sabbath because you know what the the main thing about christians and especially day adventists they want the know-how pastor tell me how to win tell me how to overcome give me three points to my next breakthrough and 12 ways to to slide into my blessing and five ways of how i can receive everything that god has for me uh sometimes you gotta sit and understand the circumstance and the situation before you dive into behavioral modification or i wish i had somebody who understood so many times in adventism here is a difficulty we so push behavioral modification to the absence of heart transformation we want to modify your behavior and so i keep pushing you on on that you've got to stop doing this and don't do that you know one of the things that that sometimes was was was challenging i was trying to give somebody a bible study one time early in my faith with jesus christ and and i was giving him a bible study and i was listening them all the stuff that adventists don't do we don't do that we don't eat this we don't go here we don't wear that we don't do this at some point just sat back he said now wait a minute what do y'all do do because you've been telling me what you don't do i don't even know what y'all do do what kind of church is y'all y'all the church of the don't y'all don't go nowhere y'all don't eat nathan and y'all don't say and dressing and y'all do all this he says i need to be in a church that's up to something good what are y'all doing for your community what are you doing for the poor what are you doing for the downtrodden but sometimes we get so caught up on what we don't do we forget that being a christian is more focused on what you are doing than what you're not doing be careful you don't become somebody who puts everybody on what we don't do and you forget that there is a plethora of things that we should be doing if we call ourselves a christian and a follower of jesus christ god blesses those who patiently endure my first point my first here's my first point that i i don't want you to miss i got three points and i'm gonna get out of your way my first point is this is expect it expect temptation the first step of an overcoming dictation is you've got to expect temptation to come to you wait a minute now it seems obvious but but but but here's here's what i found out with christians christians are a funny kind of people when the temptations come they sit down like oh lord why they why did it happen to me or why why did they why did that temptation come my way let me tell you something when you are the first step in becoming an overcomer is realizes the bible tells me that is coming for me so i might as well brace myself and expect it to come my way oh let me tell you you know when you expect it to come you prepare differently when you expect something to come your way can i help somebody out live we live here in florida where hurricanes come here when you expect the hurricane you just let me tell you something you can miss the news but when you walk in the publix and see the water out empty you know something is on the way you can expect that a storm is heading your way you gotta expect that i am going to be tempted in fact if you're sitting in your house or you're sitting next to somebody just look at me and say you're going to be tempted just look at me you're going to be tempted you're going to be tempted you're going to have some struggles you're going to have some issues they're going to be some stuff that's come at you that make you lose your religion they're going to be some people who come at you and make you want to cuss they're going to be some people who come your way and you want to throw away your bible and you want to go go hand to hand combat they're going can i just preach to some real people in the church today i know all y'all hairy christians can't handle this but let me just preach to some real christians um there are some tatians that come your way that make you want to put your bible in your backpack and say come at me [Applause] expect it when you expect trouble you you trying to lose weight and you expect that that chick-fil-a gonna ride up on you out of nowhere you you understand how to navigate when you inspect that when you you mean you're going to publix and there's some hours you just look straight ahead when you walk in here you don't even start you don't even look i expect temptation i ain't even looking to the side i notice the cookie out and i gotta keep on when you don't expect it you're just watching in the store looking around and pam the cookies just jump out at you leap into your basket case and you i don't know how they got there you get home and you got more junk than than good food you got less broccoli and more chips you got less fruits and more juice you got a lesser brown rice all of a sudden you got potatoes and oh macaroni and cheese and stuff you don't got no business because you weren't in an atmosphere of expectation and so the temptation came up and come up on you unawares you ought to walk out of your house and say well looks like me and you devil i expect you to come with your a game i expect you to throw everything at me and the kitchen sink i expect you to put some uh flip-floppers uh weeble wobbles and crazy jokers in my path today i expect it so i am armed and dangerous i am prepared for your foolishness i am ready for you to act up and cut up because i came in the full armor of jesus christ i came rebuking it before i even came into it somebody can i just preach to some real people some mornings i get up i start rebuking stuff i ain't even dealt with yet because i know it's coming [Applause] when you start rebuking stuff that you ain't even dealt with the devil's scheme like look at here this joker i don't know how to catch him because they is always expecting me to show up when when the devil just if he just punks out of nowhere and you ain't expecting that's when you hit the floor who lowered it never came but when i'm ready for the devil and i'm looking for you i know you're going to come so when you come and try to you know it's like when somebody had around the corner and you know they hiding around the corner to try to scare you and then they leap out and try to who and then you're like come on go sit out somewhere your crazy self but but when you when you ain't ready for it and somebody come from around the corner and they come in boo and you jump about your skin they got you because you wasn't expecting that the text says the text says listen god says listen it's coming why are have you been operating in a blind kind of a mindset that it's not coming your way expect temptation to hit you let me pause right there here's here's here's kind of my second point uh it says and it's just how i wrote it in my notes your heart sucks what do you mean pastor what do i mean your heart sucks here's what i mean is that your heart is predisp predisposition to fall for stupidness did you know that that means that means that that not only should you expect the temptation here's that the seeming handicap and notice i said seeming handicap is that you are predespected plain for some people to understand that means that you are predispositioned to love vanilla ice cream yeah and when you are pre-dispositioned to love vanilla ice cream it seems like vanilla ice cream is being sold on every corner what do you mean have you ever gotten a car and you thought it was a different little car and as soon as you got the car all of a sudden you see all the cars that looked just like your car riding right you said wait a minute i thought i was i thought i was different i thought i had something special i thought i had something that ain't nobody else had but all of a sudden i see all the same cars riding around everywhere everybody got the same model same color same tires is it because you [Music] your heart sucks the bible says your heart is desperately wicked you have a predisposition in eight in you because you are a son and daughter of adam that predisposes you to bend you towards evil away with these notions that men are just good at by nature no they know you are not no we are not men and women are not just good by nature you know sometimes people say listen i just trust the best in people well use a fool not me i know everybody got a messed up heart and their heart sucks and even the best people can take advantage of them i've seen little old ladies get real crazy when the money get involved they nice oh sweetie oh i love you sweetie you go out and mess with their money they'll cut you in a minute that spirituality come right about them touch their pocketbook if you want to your heart sucks messed up without god it just leans towards evil hear me somebody if i'm expecting it and i know that my heart is messed up towards it then then then i've got to prepare differently than the person who doesn't realize let me just read my bible for instance god blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation that means that means you you know what some of y'all cannot can i help some of you about about 10 y'all real quick you are missing out on certain blessings why because you're not claiming the text some of y'all ought to say lord um i've been under a lot of trial and temptation and so i'm claiming james chapter one that says you bless those uh who patiently and i've been keeping my mouth shut i've i've been biting my tongue i know blood been coming out the side of my mouth i know i've been wanting to throw hands i know i want to i've been wanting to get into some trouble uh the police almost picked me up but i've been patiently enduring this trouble so i'm claiming the blessing of james chapter 21 verse 12 that says you bless those who patiently enduring trial and temptation and i've been up in some real serious translations and tried for the last couple months and i've been enduring it patiently so i'm here to collect my bliss he the one who promised you just ain't collecting if you've been up under trial and temptation for the last year and change you ought to say well lord looks like i'm in need of a down payment on some blessings looks like you backlogged up there looks like my stuff is on back order i need you to start blessing me because you say you bless those who patiently endure it now can i just speak to the people who've been having connections and fits up can i speak to the people who'll be falling out and having a nervous breakdown and the people who be cursing everybody out and sending nasty emails you can't came to blessing because you ain't been patiently enduring it you've been trying to deal with it in your own way he said i ain't got none for you you done tore it up with your glory seeking you don't mess it up with your conniving and you're backbiting and you're acting a fool these blessings are reserved for those who patiently endure that means sometimes when you could get them back you don't y'all didn't want to hear that y'all want to hear a eye for an eye a 242 lord let me stab them there ain't got to be no big knife this little three-inch blade let me just get them that ain't patiently enduring you can't get the blessing it's not reserved for you he says he says listen listen what it says he says those people who are patiently endure the testing and the temptation afterwards they will receive the crown of life so the temptation it's not my destruction [Music] can i help can i help just about father y'all the temptation is horrible you feel you struggle every time sometimes you fall off but god is saying listen if when you enter it patiently he said the problem is not the temptation the problem is keep on fighting that temptation through my strength of my power and in the end i will give you the crown [Music] he's saying don't quit a pastor you don't understand i fell off last week i got you perhaps you understand this every now and then this this temptation seems to overtake me and and it seems that when i get frustrated and flustered that somehow this temptation just runs up and puts me in the headlock and it seems like i can't extricate myself you don't understand pastor this temptation the problem is not getting to the place where you become a super christian the problem is is when you stop being in the fight the power is when i get back up after i've been knocked flat on my back i saw a mike tyson fight one time and at the end of the fight they were interviewing mike tyson and he's saying what happened mike tyson i don't know what happened to you he said my my back he said what happened to your back i broke my back you're looking like wait a minute how you standing if you broke your back some of y'all y'all be fine the moment y'all get knocked down oh my back is broke i can't move no more i can't do anything anymore i quit i give up let me tell you that's not patiently enduring enduring and sometimes you get knocked down but you get right back up again sometimes the devil wins this round but he ain't gonna win the fight because my fight is fixed because my hope is built on nothing less than jesus blood and his righteousness number one you gotta expect the temptation number two you gotta recognize your heart sucks and number three you gotta recognize you have help [Music] i come to preach about six people in this place today and i came to tell you you have help somebody ought to say thank you jesus because i thought it was getting dark in here i thought it was going to be over for me i thought i could not overcome this temptation it seemed too strong every time it seemed i can't lose it drags me right back again but i came to preach to about six people to let you know that you have help in the fight that that god has not given you any temptation that will overtake you but will through the temptation give you a way of escape i'm just preaching to about six people in here today who's looking for the escape hatch right now you say i can't find it last week but my god i'm gonna find it this week huh where's the escape patch uh where is it after because i've gotta find my way out of this [Music] next week i'm going to dive into some some some very specific ways of overcoming temptation but i wanted you to first to get an understanding of what you're up against you've got to expect it you gotta know that your heart sucks but you've got to be confident that help is on the way actually go ahead and pray this going home it's time for me to get my vigil off [Music] 30 minutes if you've been checking i'm done because your brain can't handle much more if you've been up under temptation and trial you've been up under stress and duress i want you to stand to your feet i want to pray for you that here's what i want to pray here's what i'm praying i'm literally praying the blessings of james 12 1 verse 12. god blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation because afterward they will receive the crown of life that god has promised to those who love him i need the blessing of this text [Music] to permeate my life because i'm under stress and duress but i'm patiently enduring i'm still in the fight i'm not giving up that easy because if god before me he's more than the world against me [Music] because the sun shall not smite me by day nor the moon by night [Music] god will take care of me father we're standing because we're broken we're standing because we need help we're standing because we're claiming the blessings of james chapter 12. says you bless those who patiently endure trial and temptation father we need some blessings now i know we'll confess that we we haven't always patiently endured but father starting today we're going to begin to patiently endure we're going to keep our mouths shut we're going to stop complaining we're going to start having a connection and fit acting like why this temptation coming my way is coming my way because temptation is par for the course temptation happens to people who walk the planet temptation is coming my way because my heart sucks and so father i'm i'm done with complaining i'm done with gripe and i'm done with falling apart because god i know that you have made a way of escape for me and so instead of complaining i'm just saying god show me the way show me the way show me the way i'm walking through next week saying show me the way show me the way show me the way there there is a door there is an escape hatch i need you to show it to me god because i need to come out of this bless us holy ghost so that the blessings of james 1 verse 12 falls upon us like a mighty stream and runs down like rivers of waters in our life i might be broken but i'm blessed i might be tempted but i'm not cast down overcome but not destroyed [Music] because he that keeps israel is able to keep me from falling and to present me faultless before his throne of grace the only wise god be majesty dominion and power both now henceforth and forevermore let every child of god who believes and say amen let every person who is claiming the blessing say hallelujah and every person who knows that god makes a way
