just found out that my mom called my wedding caterer behind my back to change the order to something I explicitly said no to eight times what are your mom's illa stories my cousin got married three years ago her mother-in-law was pretty bad momzilla my cousin had plans for my sister my parents and I to be in the wedding since my dad helped raise my cousin and acted as the leading male in her life she lived with us because her dad was abusive he was going to walk her down the aisle my mom and sister were bridesmaids I was going to be a groomsman and her husband marine officer had no problem with that since I helped get them together and gave him ideas on what to do for dates etc or at least he said so momzilla former Air Force on the other hand proclaimed the entire planning period that she wanted an all military wedding forced me out of the groom's party filled it with a bunch of her son's buddies and made it clear that my dad wasn't going to give her away but our cousin Shawn was to walk her down the aisle he was an enlisted idiot however he was military it upset my cousin majorly mother-in-law was paying for all of it and threatened to not pay for it if my cousin didn't comply she complied for the sake of her husband wanting to make him happy and give him a great wedding my cousin regrets agreeing to it and now remembers her wedding as a sham of a ceremony were the people who actually mattered were shunned my sister's wedding was so awful my Esso and I decided not to have a wedding her mother-in-law picked out the dress tried picking all bridesmaids threw a fit when my sister chose our oldest sister as matron of honor instead of my brother-in-law's cousin I think it was the whole extended family rushed to the dining hall instead of following behind the horse-drawn carriage and took up all the tables including the bride and groom's so there we were in our best clothes and my sister in her wedding gown and my brother-in-law in his tuxedo dragging dusty tables and chairs out of storage while the extended family just sat there gopping at us I've never met so many backwards and outright rude people in my entire life my mom is one of those who must be the center of attention at all times his particularly jealous of other women including me I invited her to go dress shopping out of guilt I didn't really want her to go but this is something you're supposed to do with mom right thankfully I also brought a small posse it started when the group wanted a picture my mother jumped out in front of everyone and struck a pose so she could dominate the picture then she put her chair in front of the mirror so that I wouldn't be able to see myself while standing on the platform one of my friends had to tell her to move similar stuff goes on until we decide we are done for the day we are standing around in a group deciding what to do and concluded we wanted to have lunch meanwhile a few folks have wandered off to the bathroom to look at earrings whatever one friend and I walked 10 feet away to the counter to ask for a restaurant recommendation we get information and I turn around to see my mother pulling out of the parking lot she walked out on us when we spoke next I asked her why she left long story short she was enraged that the group moved off to leave her standing in the bridal store all alone while we were 10 feet away asking about lunch she said that she felt abandoned and that I had cut her off at the knees I will spare everyone the rest of that conversation from then on I cut her a hundred percent out of all planning with no guilt at all my fiance and I paid for the wedding so she had no leverage my maid of honors job was to keep her away from me during ceremony and reception I did run into her in the bathroom where she asked me to help adjust her dress she had about four yards of cleavage hanging out which looks terrific on the 70 year old mother of the bride one of my oldest dearest friends was getting married in a very small Catholic Church there wasn't a lot of space and her dress was huge froofy roughly and barely fit through the door the groom's mom was an hour and a half late to the ceremony and we couldn't start without her the groom was pretty upset with her and spent a lot of that time running around the church assuring guests that everything was fine the wedding would start soon the problem was the bride had so much dress and the church was so tiny we were running out of places to hide her from the groom she spent at least an hour's stuffed into the confession booth ruffles everywhere nerves completely shot the groom's mom finally did show up turns out she smoked a bowl and took a nap when she was supposed to be getting ready the bride is one of the most calm and composed people I know and in our 20-year friendship it's the only time I've ever seen her angry it was one of the first and not the last time the groom called his mom on her behavior I think the stress of a wedding turns everyone into a lunatic my sister got married in South Carolina in 2012 and my mom took care of the traveling arrangements but my mom never travels in retrospect I should have helped her so our flights were at 6 a.m. and we ended up with one hotel room for my two sisters mom and I terrible my mom and I were bickering like we hadn't in years from the stress of being in close quarters one of my fondest memories is my mom walking into the hotel room wielding a Subway sandwich she threw it at me and said here's your sandwich you which lol we crack up about it now my sisters future mother-in-law is a teacher she is refusing to have the wedding in September which is convenient for our 80 plus person family as well as her son and my sister she says it has to be in the winter so she can have time off to plan teachers get the summer off never mind that her family consists of eight people total yes extended included and none of them are traveling from out of town ours are and airline prices in the winter are exorbitant but then get this she got engaged she got engaged two weeks after her son did and guess when she wants the wedding my mom was really offended by the thought that my s O and I were going to type the mailing addresses for the invitations print them off onto stickers and stick them to envelopes she insisted it was tacky and it all needed to be handwritten I said okay but you can do it so I gave her all my invitations envelopes and stamps in a big yellow envelope and tell her to have fun it was about a hundred about two weeks later I get a call from my close friend a graphic artist who designed and made my invitations envelopes and helped pick out the stamps she was confused and hurt that I didn't tell her I had changed everything what my mom changed my invitations to something completely different bought envelopes she liked and used different stamps to not my style at all and caused me to waste a ton of money on invites envelopes and stamps I had bought yeesh I'd be on the phone with the caterer to let them know that absolutely nothing gets changed without my consent I got married when I was 24 I didn't know many people since I'd moved across the country to live with my fiancee when it came time to make up the guest list I think I had 20 people on it mother-in-law added over 80 her friends co-workers church friends and all of her relatives I had no idea who those people were that came to my wedding I had to find a bigger place to hold the reception because I was too timid to tell her I wasn't okay with what she'd done I purposefully chose a wedding venue that would seat only a hundred so she couldn't keep expanding the guest list I used a student loan to pay for the caterer I was young and very not smart so I didn't want a wedding at all I didn't want a plan one didn't want to pay for one I wanted to elope to Italy or the Caribbean or get married on a cruise ship just the two of us nope ex-husband said that his mom would find a way to show up no matter what so I planned a wedding I told him that I didn't want to talk specifics with anyone because I did not care for opinions or suggestions and gave him a short couple of sentences to use in response he was supposed to deal with his family and friends and me with mine that did not happen we planned to have a secular ceremony and had scheduled a meeting with an officiant his mom asked who was marrying us and immediately launched into how we should use pastor so-and-so and got offended when we didn't know who that was after much prompting it was apparently the person who married her older son and the pastor at the church she attended on Easter and Easter only her older son had gotten married seven years prior and I'm not sure how I was supposed to know that considering his ex-girlfriend was the one there not me ex mother-in-law refused to go to my bridal shower thrown by my grandma and ex-husband stepmom no idea what her problem was with stepmom she one of her sisters and her mother shoved a few gift bags at us when we stopped by her house one day and made us open them while they took a million awkward pictures speaking of bridal shower I didn't want one but my ex-husband stepmom insisted she kept calling my maid of honor who told her to please email or text because she could not answer her phone while she was at work maid of honor kept telling her that I did not want a bridal shower and she completely ignored her and would just keep asking questions stepmom called me to beg me to invite her sisters and their families to the wedding a month prior the invitations had been out for over a month at this point most RSVPs were in we had no extra room and no extra money she'd call me while I was walking into a restaurant to meet someone for lunch and kept me on the phone for almost 30 minutes despite my saying no repeatedly I told her that she should be talking to my then fiance - what she replied that he told her to call me instead when I finally got her off the phone she ended telling me to think about inviting her family members whom I didn't know at all after I told her no several times my own mother with who I am estranged grabbed me from behind and berated me for not saying hello to her I said hi to her before the ceremony and then was busy like getting married and being pulled in a thousand different directions excuse me if I don't spend all my time with someone I don't speak to on a regular basis I worked at David's Bridal and I have to say that I never really had a terrible bride it was always the moms grandma's sisters and friends that were terrible either they hated what the bride would pick out for them to wear or they would hate what she was picking up for herself to wear at David's Bridal we have kind of strict appointment guidelines when it comes to time and a lot of brides that would bring entourage as wouldn't find a dress because everyone would bombard her with opinions and overwhelmed them the worst thing I've ever witnessed was when a bride that was struggling with her weight came in she was overweight and had been working extremely hard on it over the last year it was a slower day and we all loved her story and wanted to make that day special so we all decided to help she finally found a dress that she loved and she started crying along with most of us then she looked at her mom and asked for her opinion and her mom looked at her and said you Faton it we all stood there in silence and the bride lost her happiness she asked to be assisted in taking it off and they laughed it was one of the saddest days that I experienced there not me but a friend she went wedding-dress shopping with her mom her younger sister and a couple of close friends she found a dress that she absolutely loved and her friends and sister all agreed that she looked wonderful in it her mom however was upset with the dresses hemline it wasn't short or unorthodox or anything it just didn't fall right long story short she flipped out and kept insisting that the Holy Spirit is telling me that dress isn't right for you my friend and her sister are very religious but even that was too much for them I had problems with bridesmaids fighting with each other at the bar for my Bachelorette a gazillion issues with my mother seriously screaming at me on the phone for so much stuff but the kicker was the night before the wedding rehearsal get-together at my parents house my mother-in-law pulled me aside and told me she hoped it would pour rain the next day outdoor wedding that I have to learn my manners and put my husband before myself which I always do seriously people think it's abusive she pulled my husband into a guest room gave him an envelope full of cash and told him not to tell me which he did immediately afterwards there was $4,000 in that envelope the only person who made my wedding tolerable was my father who during the issues with bridesmaids told me he'd be my maid of honor and the night before told my husband if he wanted he'd put a ladder to the room window I was staying at so we could run off and elope wedding coordinator here I found the moms are usually worse than the bride's I worked a wedding this past summer with a ridiculous momzilla during the rehearsal she handed me the box of decorations and said don't you dare make this look tacky on the day of the wedding she arrived and came up to ask me where the wedding programs were I told her there weren't any programs in any of the boxes and she proceeded to crap me out for losing them and then decided that I stole them she also asked that we built a water station for the guests but instructed that she didn't want the guests to have access to it until after the ceremony it was 90 degrees that day and the ceremony was outside so that did not go over well and when the guests complained that they were thirsty and we weren't letting them go to the water station she told them how horrible we were and made a big deal out of opening the water station early like she was the hero thank God they only booked the venue for the ceremony so she was only my problem for about an hour the next day my boss handed me an e-mail the momzilla sent her she wrote about how I lost the programs but then in the same sentence said she found the programs in her hotel room later that night and made a comment about how I should have gone to her hotel and gotten them she also complained about how I wouldn't give her guests water and how the photographer was the worst person she's ever worked with she actually wrote don't bother remembering her name she'll never work in his town again about the photographer her letter ended with her complimenting the venue space and saying something along the lines of I think I would be a great addition to your team of event coordinators let me know when I can start which was blatantly trying to take my job the worst part is that my boss actually hired her needless to say I quit working at that venue my entire wedding was a momzilla story I got to choose the overall theme but that's about it and it wasn't even exactly what I wanted oh and my dress I did get my dream dress but I had to beg for it as it was twice what my mom wanted to pay $300 was my budget dress was 578 dollars plus tax so I've decided that if I ever get married again it's going to be low-key and I will be planning everything I wanted my wedding to be really casual so I wanted my bridesmaids to wear just clothes they already had in a variety of colors I can't remember which colors but my mom decided she wanted all the girls to match so she went out and bought bridesmaid dresses gave them to all my sisters and didn't tell me luckily she had an exercise that just happened to fit my sister-in-law I am super glad she paid for it it just isn't what I wanted also I had my wedding dress made because I wanted something particular for some reason my mom didn't come to one of the fittings and when I got the dress she hated it until I bought the hoop skirt thing that went under it to make a fluffier party was at mother-in-law's house so I was given instructions of exact times we arrived and waited upstairs trying to tighten up my and his hair got an unexpected hangnail so I went downstairs it was party time anyway to quietly ask mother-in-law where her nail clippers were as she is doing last-minute straightening she leans in and whispers in a hateful and disgusted tone you are a lazy and ungrateful girl for not helping me set up my house I have offered to you and walked off edit later in the party I snagged my wedding dress with that hanging I'm divorced now anyway and now with a wonderful man whose mother is just a doll thank God my mother-in-law told my brother-in-law he was in the wedding and then told myself and my husband that was most certainly never the plan and was one reason mother-in-law father-in-law and brother-in-law did not come to the wedding she also ruined my bridal shower hubby got a call while we were out to eat one day and because she didn't get an invite we had already cut ties she thought screaming loud enough about it that I could hear her in a decently busy restaurant was the best idea not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but the surprise of time and date were ruined honestly had my mother-in-law been gone from the start planning a wedding would have been one of the best experiences of my life but alas she was there for more than half of it and still tried to be an annoyance after we cut ties mother-in-law kept saying we should use their minister after we had repeatedly told everyone we wanted a non-religious wedding she kept saying he would not make it religious after our first few choices could not make it she started to bring it up again but this time it was he will do it non-religious he just asks that you include one Bible verse when it was getting close to the date and we still had no one she just said if we did not get someone in a week she would hire her guy ah the worst I can offer is that my mother-in-law offered to buy us a car on the condition that we elope instead of having the small wedding we were planning my parents on the other hand were fairly put out that we were planning something so small and offered to pay for most of it if we'd switch venues and invite 200 plus people we eventually bowed to pressure for my family and had a larger wedding which irritated my mother-in-law to no end actually it was my sister Zilla she invited a childhood forced together friend that I didn't actually like to be a bridesmaid in my wedding and by the time I was about it she had already bought a non-refundable ticket I told everyone to go out and find an inexpensive black dress that looked amazing in and wear that it didn't matter to me if they all matched I just wanted everybody to feel beautiful my sister dragged my bridesmaids out my eldest sister herself and the friend I didn't like to Macy's without my knowledge or permission and bought the ugliest outfits I have ever seen my maid of honor thought she was an idiot and didn't go so she was dressed in a fantastic black velvet number and everybody else looked terrible my husband had more groomsmen than I had bridesmaids which was fine with me one of them had driven 19 hours straight to be in our wedding and my sister made him and two others sit down and not be in the ceremony because she thought too many groomsmen made me look unpopular my husband's sister wanted to be a groomsman and so she dressed in a man's tux and looked fantastic she was to escort my terrible sister down the aisle after the ceremony but my sister refused to take her arm because she thought she was a lesbian after my husband and I left for the honeymoon my sister thought my friends looked Shady even though we shared the house with them and took all of my presents so they would be safe to my brother's house and didn't tell us so when we got home we thought we had been robbed [Music]
