imagine this you hop on minecraft and go load up an entirely new world a brand new seed new beginnings you spawn in a forest biome not a surprise forest biomes are pretty common you go and walk 1 000 blocks away from spawn in hopes of finding a different biome to build your home in but as you keep walking there's nothing but oak trees and grass blocks around you dedicated to make this world your home you walk 30 million more blocks all the way to the world border but to your surprise you're still in the same forest biome you spawned in this would only mean one thing you spawned in a world that only has one biome one single biome one forest that stretches all the way from spawn to each of the world borders in all four cardinal directions i know crazy but is something like this even possible every single minecraft world seed generates to have so many different biome types there's no possible way that all of them could be the same type right well in today's video we're going to be talking about this surreal idea of a minecraft world generating with only one biome and the possibility of it actually happening let's get straight into it so before we figure out whether or not a single biominecraft seed could exist we gotta know how minecraft worlds generates and how certain biomes are produced now personally i don't even know that much about this subject myself but i'll try to give my take on it the best i can so basically minecraft worlds are created with something called procedural generation procedural generation is more simple than it sounds it's basically when a computer uses a formula to randomly generate a game's content in minecraft's case procedural generation is used to generate how the world terrain looks where biomes will be placed decorations and many other things this is the reason why you won't find two minecraft worlds that are the same procedural generation makes it different for every seed but one of the biggest things procedural generation does here is apply temperature values to the map which will determine the biome yeah i know temperature in minecraft what is it celsius or fahrenheit nobody knows but procedural generation usually makes the temperature vary throughout the entire minecraft seed and that's why there's usually different biomes scattered across the map for example an area of the map that was given a temperature of 0.95 will most likely be a jungle since jungles usually have that temperature but 2 000 blocks away the temperature may change and go down to 0.05 where it could instead be a snowy beach it's just like real life i guess places that are generated as hot in minecraft would be a desert or a badlands but places generated as cold could be an ice biome or a snowy tiger what's most important to us though in trying to figure out this mystery is that the temperatures all across the world are randomly generated meaning a single biome stretching on and on all across the map isn't impossible all it would need to do so is for the seeds randomly generated temperature to stay consistent all the way until it reaches the world borders i mean think about it we can already see this happening in our own minecraft worlds just on a smaller scale for example sometimes you'll find a small forest biome that only takes up a few chunks and then sometimes you'll find a larger one that stretches on much further this happens because the larger one's temperature stayed consistent for a longer stretch of land than the smaller one did which once again means theoretically a single biome could stretch on and on all the way to the world borders if its temperature stayed consistent so now with that information the next thing we need to figure out is the actual chance of something like this happening but before i continued with my research i wanted to consult with some minecraft world generation experts to see what their take on the subject was the first person i went to was duchenne i asked him about the topic at hand and let's just say he didn't think a one biome world was possible in fact he said that you would probably win the lottery 50 times in a row before you would find a world that generated with a single biome he did admit though that theoretically something like this could exist the next person i went to was captain wutox who was very blunt and said it wasn't possible he said that the math didn't allow for it to happen although wutox induction gave some great advice on trying to figure out the percentage of a one biome world generating i still didn't think i'd gotten a good way to get an accurate result but you know i wasn't surprised i didn't think anyone would have a straightforward answer for me anyway since i'm the only one with this problem or at least that's what i thought a few days later i'm scrolling through the depths of the internet trying to find anything that might help me solve this mystery while doing so i often found myself reading minecraft forum post about world and biome generation and as i found myself on these forum posts i was constantly finding this guy named the master caver in the forum replies every time i saw his replies he was either owning or disproving whatever the original poster had to say or expressing his incredible knowledge on the game's coding and generation to put it simply this guy knows so much about minecraft that i wouldn't be surprised if it was notch on an alternate account so i threw him a message asking him about a one biome world specifically a one force biome world since forests are the most common type after a few back and forth dms he had given me all of the information i needed i was actually mind blown the amount of new knowledge this guy was exposing me to made me feel like i knew nothing about minecraft basically he said that if you're enjoying the video so far and are feeling up to it consider subscribing for more future content just kidding he said that if you take the chance of a forest biome spawning which would be roughly nine percent and then power that to 55 billion you would get the percentage chance of a world being generated with only forest at first i didn't know why you would power the chance of a force biome spawning to 55 billion so i replied asking that because i want to make sure i'm getting all the facts here he told me that that's about how many biomes there are in a minecraft world this is because according to minecraft code the average size of a forest biome is 256 by 256 chunks so if you do some mathematics and then divide the total world chunks by that you get about 55 billion now he also said to power nine percent to 55 billion you would have to use a special calculator but i just found some random website and plugged it in and then i was given the probability of a minecraft world generating with only forests this is what i got this is the chance of that happening now i know this number may look very odd to some of you but basically when it says e minus and then that strain of numbers after it that means that there are more than 57 billion zeroes at the beginning of this number in a decimal placed at the beginning funny thing is when i tried converting that number from scientific notation to a regular number it was too much zeros for the websites to handle so they just crashed so yeah that extremely small number is the percentage chance of a world like this generating and especially since there is only a limited amount of seeds available it's most likely impossible to come across something like this but let's say mojang added more seeds to the game how many more seeds would there have to be for a world like this existing to be probable well if you were to say eight digits per second starting at one it would take about 100 years or so to fully count the number of seeds needed for that so to answer the question could a world generate to have one forest biome or any biome stretching all across the map well theoretically there is a chance but you saw the number for yourself so let's just say it's extremely unlikely although i'm sure crazier things have happened anyways thank you for watching till the end of the video if you enjoyed and are feeling up to it consider liking and subscribing my socials and my discord are in the description thanks for watching i'll see you all on the next one
