He really hasn't changed much. Same awesome dude he's always been. I miss this guy in Metallica so much.

Imo Jason was the coolest Metallica member of all. Shame they treated him like shit.

it was sound I'm Jason Newsted you're watching Loudwire hey everyone Graham from Loudwire here with mr. Jason Newsted thank you so much for sitting down with me here as wonderful art collection here in New York City showing it for the world this is Wikipedia fact or fiction I love it so what under Wikipedia page all the different bands albums all that stuff fun picked out some stuff okay you're going to tell us if it's real or not first off they do get this wrong sometime so Jason Curtis yeah Newsted born in Battle Creek Michigan stru that's true that's where Rob Van Dam is from okay it said you were exposed to music as a child by listening to the record collections of your older brothers true that's okay we have one brother five years older one other eight years older and so I heard and I was born in 1963 and so I heard Hendrix when I was you know nine years old or eight years old or something very and then when I finally sort of get into music and one play an instrument everything I stole one brother was kind of more down with the rock and my other boat is more down with the funk and so I would steal earthly fire oh hi oh players and these kind of things from this brother my older brother and then I would steal kiss and Nazareth and I you know Queen and these kind of bands from this brother and so and he was the one that had the coolest stereo on the headphones so I collect all the records and going on he was gone I would get in there and get the cost old cost headphones are my yeah yeah and just digging the Queen and you know listening to the mixes and things in the way they twist the music her honor they helped a lot with the what my development of understanding how it's all supposed to go in beautiful yeah your first instrument was actually the guitar what you started playing at 9 years old yeah not right call it that did you move to bass at 14 yeah because gene Simmons inspired in for sure yep that's all true I got a Sears Roebuck student model guitar when I was nine years old okay ninth Christmas I think it was and do not a tune it or put my left hand down under like that yeah my family's very involved in the church you know at that time it's stuff like that so I heard direct songs about Jesus and I would put like lines on the paper and write real big letters like at school you know and write songs about Jesus and I would write the number above the thing there was no left-hand actions left-hand optional I'm saying together did you have you need that hand to point the chicks in the crowd and stuff so I was practicing that for later [ __ ] so it was like I'd write 1 1 3 3 2 2 and whatever they were tuned to is what they were tuned to whatever song cool to me that I liked together he had so I write the number above that make my little Jesus songs and stuff so that's all the farther I really got any kind of guitar what's the heck say but then you're writing your own oh yes yes and then when I started liking kiss there was a cat that brought it I was play saxophone in my junior high school band and the drummer guy like a cool because there in the drum section of Evander and he brought in a kiss record and a school and I lost my [ __ ] do you know which one I want to say dressed to kill so I take my acoustic guitar it's got three on the side like a Gibson yeah three tuners on a side and I removed the middle tuners off of each side so it's four to be a basa there's two strings going down the side of the neck and two going on the month you turned it into it a need to do a lace and it still sits on my bed in that house at my dad's home Wow tanga tar with one string on it and every time when I go back to see my dad I go down there I still got it's my room still when I was 16 it's all my extended posters clash almost it's still intact because it's important to my dad you know Penn adores good together and so I always go down and play am i evil on the one string flotsam and jetsam said you answered a local newspaper ad when they were looking for a bass player while you were in Phoenix with your band gangster it said that gangster broke up in Phoenix so you went hey I'm here maybe a hot issue for a band pretty close that's pretty close where it goes I was 18 years old I don't recommend most of this when I was 18 years old I quit school I had three months to go when I was in the band with guys that were 26 and 27 years old and they wanted to go to California to be rock stars okay I sold a lot of my record collection got $300 together got my bass amp in a suitcase full of stuff I told my parents that was rolling out and my dad was freaked my mom is freaking more but I went and got the back of a u-haul truck or the sheepdog closed u-haul truck from the English Sheepdog being Rudy okay madam but work at a sandwich pizza place from 9:00 to 6:00 and I go wash dishes from 7:00 to 2:30 in the morning and I did round and round and round I'd gone with my BMX bike back and forth a bag of ore and is trying to earn money and keep them keep it together so finally got to get away from most people moved into some other houses I went you know through time and so five months after that February of 1982 went into a music store in Phoenix on 16th Street and Kelly Smith had an ad up on the pay on the wall there and I can cyst about Iron Maiden or something and rush I think it was and I called him up and he says come on out and practice with his dad's office February 10th to 1982 was the beginning of false images of the Metallica audition it said you were the last of over 50 musicians to audition and you secretly procured the band's setlist studied it presented it to large saying that you knew all these songs much to his surprise mmm it's not that hard to figure out what setlist the band played with Ozzy during the tour in December that time I could no affair that wasn't that hard to figure out it's not any kind of giant secret that you get your [ __ ] together if you really want a gig and you prepare the songs that they've been playing and you've got yourself together enough to know and had that setlist ready if any decide to pull the trigger so it is true that it was on flotsam and jetsam stationery with my logo at the top it was written down in the order that they had performed them the last time they played in our area and that I did hand it to him over the drums and he goes with the logo and it looked at the list and I did say I know these songs and he did go holy [ __ ] dude that's cool and he goes let's play that one that with that with that one and we did and they called me back two days later the burdens were there and torben whole work was little both burdens were alive then they were so nice to me when I got called back to they all came when I went back in the second time to what me and hope embraced me and Jen Burton grabbed me right away what's the guy's told me he said you're the one they know you're the one please be safe you know that kind of [ __ ] about the city I'm really good at or that state that they're passing it and they're passing cliffs torchon was getting it it said that Metallica initiated you by tricking you into eating a ball of wasabi not far from the truth so I was see I was in the band for 11 days we were touring Japan well got Metallica touring Japan for the first time Wow so was their first time too so we'd have our drinks and have no drinks and partyin partyin partyin and Kirk's like Jason this mint ice cream is Pau RC yeah but I was so hammered I'm like if it was ice cream it would have melted right I was like I was telling and so you should really try some of this it's mint it's really great I'm like okay so I don't freakin spoonful I couldn't use chopsticks yet right didn't have God didn't have that yet that's how cool so I'm sitting there and then I finally come out of it I look up and I don't know anybody at the table everybody's gone but this table is full you know it's tall people have kind of come and sit and there's something over time and they'll come up in here and I sit here I'm gonna lurk about somebody comes announcement listen the road crew guys women and people bull and all eventually notice all this just you know Asian girls and people up and down this freakin table and I'm looking around for somebody that I know you know and dude brings the bill so back then you know yen exchange it was powerful back then right member kbecque ten and I was making five hundred dollars a week which was a lot of money for playing bass when you give me a sandwich had a beer and I had been happy and that whole situation but they were giving me $500 a week but the bill comes and it's got zeros like you know I'm looking this thing and there's nobody around on the scarcest dinner like this right but they were looking with me they had they were watching from like up here and what the duty watching my face and then Bobby comes down to her manager finally he takes to build a scarab and Pat's me on the back you know that kind of shows like wow so that's the wasabi story black album producer Bob Rock he could be altered Metallica's working schedule and routines so much that you guys swore to never work with him again oh no I don't remember that I don't I don't remember that part god I remember being so happy about the result that we wouldn't work with anybody else except for him that's what I read aloud so quite the office twice the opposite so if it's some happened later with it I don't know but that day at that moment no we were very proud of finally getting him into our camp and the things that he showed us and the things we showed him made a very I'm looking at me it sells four thousand five thousand companies a week still guys today in 2003 you joined Ozzy Osbourne's band both yourself and Ozzy were enthusiastic about recording an album together why not ATV accident that's why yeah the ATV act and I had to go on with Roy Vaughn we want to make another record and I want to do the other stuff and on an amount away so if it wasn't for that well because we were scheduled to open for them across Europe then you know the deal that I made with share in February of that year was that if I'm coming out I got boy bud going got a record going if I'm coming out you have to let us open all the shows and she's like well okay so should I did WD anyone thirty days I did 60 shows you know that's how I rolled that summer yeah so it's like that and that's how I was ready to roll in Europe to I play in that band for now and that for two and a half hours on the same night let's go wow you know I had like 40 or whatever song spinning around in my head with all and they're all such it you know think about it dude some of the Geezer lines and then some of the black e lines and Voivod and all those kind of keeping all that together on bass it's a lot and a lot sure sure but it was it was victorious so but I would have I would have loved it rock with Ozzy I would never put it out of mine in my mind if he called me again I'd play bass with him for a day or for a song or whatever I'm never there's I don't feel any ill-will towards any of that camp and I it was an honor to be with a great teacher like that and it was just a little about he was quite out of his mind at the time I was hard to deal with sometimes but he's also a genuine rock fan he's just like you and me last one you began to express yourself through painting as you can see around us right now after getting injured while attempting to catch a falling bass amp head not just any Basin what's that not just any big fan not just any bass have read the black Elm the one that made load the one that made okay so one that really shattered the they said ya know better hairier shoulders apart I had many many SVT heads sponsored by them for years they have many many of them in different stores in different places in the world and [ __ ] actually but that's though one thousands of times rolled it one foot roll the ten feet roller over there over there that day did that thing in the tip that way and went that way in the head was headed to the floor of the Chop House and in reaction I grabbed it like that and well and took that completely out ripped the bicep all the way separate it was sitting down here he just took it off it just happened to be ergonomic Lee or whatever you want to call that at that moment as that head transformer side down was falling and I caught it it just did that that's all Jason thank you so much you're sitting down not happy notice me you're doing alright strong hand you know and early look at that Jason Newsted everybody thanks you guys Cheers you [Music] and [Music]
