So sad especially to here he wanted to release the music to Damage Plans second album with hopefully Chris Cornell on vocals.

hey this is Vinnie Paul from hell yeah rebel meets rebel Damageplan and Pantera and you are watching the one and only Loudwire everyone Graham from Loudwire here its Wikipedia Factor fiction time with Vinnie Paul thank you so much man Vinnie Paul is here to dispel the fact or fiction absolutely or to say they are true exactly Leslie already understand the concept so I don't even have to explain it it's pretty easy I like this okay cool let's see if we can find some fiction here first of all it says you were born in Abilene Texas that is true that is true okay Pantera was originally named Pantera's metal magic but was shortened to settle a disagreement between all the members this is untrue that's untrue very untrue what happened the first name that me and I'm ever came up with for the band was Jim and I following in the footsteps of bands like journey heart stuff like that sure then it elevated from Jim and I to Eternity which was much cooler and then one day in high school when I was in the drumline a guy suggested to me and you had to call your band Pantera I think I even remember his name I think his name was Donnie sours okay and he goes I said what the hell's Pantera saw Matt's the coolest race car there is started investigating and found out it meant Panther in Spanish and really liked the way it just had a nice ring to it and brought it to the band I brought a logo in with a cat's head on it was the very first logo we ever had everybody loved it and so we became Pantera from that point on it perfect all right some fiction are we dispelled that miss truth exactly referring to Pantera's early spandex appearance you remarked at a van meeting that these magic clothes don't play music we do let us go out there and be comfortable jeans t-shirt whatever and see where it goes that's true that's true yes you know we were heavily influenced by bands like Judas Priest I still wear my spikes kiss van Halen stuff like that in the early day so we emulated our heroes and that's what they wore leather and spandex and spikes and all that stuff and then bands like Slayer and Metallica came along and the image thing was going for it you know and we felt the same way we felt like it was all about the music so we got rid of the image there you have it another dispel truth or mist or that was a transit sure that was a truth that was the true a Vulgar Display of power the man on the cover was paid $10 a punch in the face 30 times to get the right picture 31 times 31 times is that true yeah you're conflicting things both ways that it's true not true of it you know that's true that's true all right 31 times it's 310 dollars three hundred ten bucks some guy off the street and just a dude off the street dude off the street man the label brought him an ID trying to remember who the art director at east-west records is what that was actually on at the time Atlantic and Lake music group but I think Bob different was the art director at the time and he probably the guy that found the guy and brought him in well any injuries that sustained by the guy ever heard anything about you know the first thing we said we wanted to we wanted it to be a street like a street fight you know that's that was the idea that came and the first thing they brought us for all these pictures of these boxers fighting each other he's like no okay that's not what we're looking for that's not what Vulgar Display of power is yeah some guy getting jacked on the street you know so they got the guy we like the picture and it worked up awesome 1994 Monsters of Rock Festival says yourself and dime got into a scuffle with journalists from Kerrang over an unflattering cartoon of yourself I definitely do not remember that perfect uh you know that mean it didn't happen I would just have to put a question mark beside that I don't think we've really ever had a problem with any journalist I would put a question mark and leaned that towards the untrue side during a 1999 Stanley Cup party that you hosted for the Dallas Stars if the Stanley Cup itself was damaged when guy carbon ooh me carbonyl ghee carbonyl theologies attempting to throw the cup from the roof of your house into your Poole balcony the balcony okay the roof is about fifty feet high I would never have but this is the Stanley Cup at a party yeah man I mean me and Dom wrote the song to help propel the 1999 Dallas Stars to the Stanley Cup right my buddy my best buddy on the team all of them became really good friends Craig Ludwig called me from Buffalo and says if we win this thing tonight you better have your house ready to party and I loaded up four or five cases of crown roll everything and of course everybody knows the famous bread whole bill dole or no gold whatever you want to call it it was a goal far as we're concerned and overtime and they came to two places they went to a place called the Big Apple which is a bar that we all hung out in Arlington and then they came to my house and they brought the Stanley Cup and we brought every strip dancer we can find in town and it was the best party you've ever seen in about five o'clock in the morning we're all out in the pool the hot tub it's just a party party party and here comes he carving out he's got the cup and he's like and let me catch the cup and he throws it off the balcony and it gets right about to there it goes doink off the side of the pool and into the water and we jumped on it and sink it to the bottom and that thing floats really good because you're a big thing on the bottom of it that holds it and the cup keeper the guy you see on the TV commercial he's like you cannot do that that's to Stanley Cup and we're like we just [ __ ] did it dude so it was it was pretty awesome him that's great and they had to prepare it afterwards oh yeah they got a nice little dent fixture and took it and then I came up with some kind of BS story for the press and Eddie dropped it coming off the plane you know so and try to clean the mess up a little bit but that's what really happened oh that's great that's just awesome it's in 2005 unreleased damageplan recordings were planned to be made into an album but those plans were scrapped well 2005 there we were you know that was the goal to put out the second damageplan record and obviously you know diamond was taken from us at the end of 2004 so never finished it I still have the music and the music is awesome and we were definitely heading down the right path and I haven't decided what I want to do with it man you know thought about it has no vocals it's just me and I okay he played bass on it in there just there's I think there's five tracks and they're just killer and I've often thought about maybe having some of Dimes favorite singers sing on maybe have Rob Halford on a track Chris Cornell on a track you know some stuff like that but haven't got around to it just because I've been so focused on how yeah right you're busy guy it'll happen it'll happen man they're great track so I would definitely like the people to hear so it definitely will like it will it will before the end of time that's awesome I cannot wait for that please make that around for us formation of hell yeah you found it tough entering the studio were the last albums by Damageplan and Pantera were recorded he felt that the dark cloud that was there went away due to everyone in helle as positive energy absolutely totally the first song we wrote was nausea that was the name of owners that's the first song and sort of representing it just felt like you know we were all a little bit nas you know so when we walked in and still had dimes handwritten notes for the second Damageplan record laying on the console and you know all our platinum records I mean it was just it was overwhelming and I walked in and I was like I have these four guys I've never played music with before and it's gonna be heavy you know and so I sat down we started I started playing drums it all started coming back to me and I really really felt like I was there with us I felt like he was patting me on the back and saying this is what you got to do you got to carry on you got to keep you on and man you know it just started flowing after that man that we wrote that first on the first day we went back the next day and we wrote like two songs a day for a week when we were in there man I just say we're just [ __ ] happening man and it felt like the right thing to do and it definitely you know far as I'm concerned pretty much saved my life because I had no idea you know where what I was going to go you know sure yeah wow that's great to hear it said on Wikipedia that you stated that you're not interested and will never talk to Phillips although I'm not and that's all we need to say about the only need to save it but a fact for you that is it says that you were once a spokesperson for Arby's fast-food restaurants no I had a feeling that Nathan but I did work at McDonald's when I was in high school so if you want to print that go right ahead I was like I'm actually made a shift manager I was a shift manager and yeah man and then drums took over my life and I was done my last job I had was that a fotomat if anybody remembers how far along that was just a little tiny boots and used to go me and Rex used to both work it when I worked at this one he worked at that one and we would just go there to sleep until somebody knocked on the window I wanted to pick a picture my god as we played we jammed all night long you know so we had like this 10:00 to 2:00 shift and we would just go under sleep last one for you for Christmas this year you're planning on releasing a cookbook called drumming up an appetite with Vinnie Paul that's right humming up an appetite with any Paul not I don't think it's going to be ready for Christmas so it's going to be 2017 but it's got a ton of killer recipes a lot of them that started with my mom back in the day all the way back to like a scrambled egg and cheese sandwich you know me and Dom were poor and broke and we were little kids we'd go to school I mean just a lot cheaper to come back home and make scrambled egg and cheese sandwich man and I used to do it every day and so good and anyways my stuffed jalapenos the heat is uh you know I like a lot of spicy food so everything has quite a bit of spice and there's a lot of a you know tongue-in-cheek comedy in it it's it's it's gonna be really fun for anybody I think people think cooking today is putting something in a microwave you know they just put it in and they're done and really there's such a passion to it and to put a smile on people's faces through playing music or cooking is really special absolutely so 2017 hopefully that'll be out 2017 awesome I was hoping this year but 2017 I got to get it right all right so look out for that everybody the new hell yeah undeniable make sure you out now best record we've ever made so proud of it does have a very special track I don't care anymore which is one of the best Phil Collen songs ever featuring my brother Dimebag Darrell on guitar so you gotta check it out absolutely Vinnie thank you so much I appreciate your time man we hope we told some truth and we hope we dispelled some lies for you right here on Loudwire [Music]
