hey guys it's laura welcome back to another video today's video is going to be a combination of my march book haul and my april tbr so i did not buy a lot of books in the month of march which is great i was aiming for zero uh and i bought eight which isn't bad if you are familiar with my usual book hauls like they're usually more than that so i i think i did okay um so let's get into the books that i bought and then we'll talk about my reading plans for april which is going to be a really exciting month so the first book that i have here is the white witch of rose hall this is by herbert g delisia this is a kind of a jamaican classic um i am starting to gather books that i want to read for my diverseathon prompt in september september is the month i'm hosting we're going to be reading books set in jamaica so i grew up hearing the story from my mom about the white witch reverse hall my mom always told me to read the book and here i am finally reading the book i'm really excited about this is actually based on actual events in history so i'm excited about it i don't know much else beyond that but i'm really excited to pick this up in september the next book i have here is a middle grade and it is bridge of souls by victoria schwab so this is the third book in the cassidy blake series it follows a girl named cass who after a near-death experience has the ability to see and communicate with ghosts she has a very interesting power that goes a little bit beyond that and her parents are actually paranormal investigators they're currently filming this documentary where they're going around to the most haunted cities in the world so and they have no idea that cass has the ability to see ghosts um so in the first book they went to edinburgh and the second book they went to london and in this book they're going to be going to new orleans which is my favorite city ever and i'm so excited i love books at new orleans i love the city i fell in love when i went there with the city itself the magic of the city and the amazing people and the culture and i'm really excited for a book set in new orleans however i do think i need to reread the first two books in the series before i can get to this one because there's a lot that i forgot but once i do that really excited to get to this one i have two more middle grades this was the month of middle grades apparently i know nothing about these i picked these up literally because of their beautiful covers that was the only reason and that is a tale of magic and a tale of witchcraft by chris colfer i just need to show you the covers because then you'll understand so i mean beautiful cover right but the naked hardback looks like this and i mean how can i resist that it's just so gorgeous middle grade covers are always beautiful um but like i said i know nothing about it it says bristol stumbles across a secret section of the library she discovers a book that introduces her to a world beyond her imagination and learns the impossible she is a fairy capable of magic bristol is whisked away and enrolled in an academy of magic which sounds so much fun magical school setting sounds perfect chris colfer is the author of the land of stories series which i know is a very popular middle grade series i haven't read it yet but i saw these and couldn't resist them a tale of witchcraft i believe is the second in the series and look at that cover look at it it is stunning i like how this one's a little bit darker so that's exciting um i really like chris colfer as a person and an actor so i'm excited to give his books a try and see how it goes and then i picked up a copy of what is currently my favorite book of the year which is it came as such a shock to me this is the first book that i finished in the month of march i haven't talked about it yet or have i i don't know it's amari in the night brothers by b.b alston i already have this edition which is the us hardcover edition but i saw the uk hardcover and i was like i have to have that because it's stunning um this is mario the knight brothers by baby allston currently my favorite book of the year i cannot tell you how this emotionally impacted me um just it's a it's incredible i'm not going to talk about it too much because this isn't a wrap up but you'll hear more about it in my wrap up for sure this is the book in all of its glory it's got this beautiful silver foiling we've got this beautiful illustration of amari on the cover with a scene a very important scene from the book it has beautiful end papers and the naked hardcover is gorgeous look at this i mean just just look at that and not only that but it has these beautiful silver sparkly sprayed edges i don't know if the camera will pick it up but they're beautiful i saw this and i had to have it so now i'm gonna have to collect all of the books in the series in the uk hardcovers because they're gorgeous and yeah i had to have it so beautiful cover bye um the next book i have is a court of silver flames by sarah j maas i was fully ready to pick this up and read it as soon as it came out in february and i didn't i kind of forgot about it for a while but here i am back again because so many people are hyping this up and absolutely loving this even people who are not fans of sarah j maas have read this and loved it and that just gets me so excited i was a little bit nervous about this because it does follow nesta enesta is uh not a not a very likable character so uh curious to see how sarah j maas turns that around but i'm really excited to have this and i'm thinking that i might pick it up next month we'll we'll talk about it later um the next book i have here is chain of iron by cassandra clare the second book in the last hour series i read this already i did a whole spoiler-filled vlog so i will link that somewhere if you want to check it out but i enjoyed this book very much i gave it five stars and i did pick it up this month so including it in the book haul and the next book i have here um i actually picked up for the acmc readathon which is hosted by elle from elliot brooks i originally was going to read this book um for that readathon steel pro saga by paul kruger i since found out some terrible things about the author he is an abuser i do not want to support him so i am not reading this book i'm actually going to unhaul it um and i decided to pick this one up instead this is the boneshard daughter by andrea stewart i'm currently reading this i'm that far in and i'm loving it um this does feature animal companions it features a very unique magic system we're following a empire where the emperor possesses this bone charred magic so everyone in the empire is required to give a shard of bone to the emperor and he uses them to power these constructs and they kind of make the empire secure but whenever that bone shard is in use the person who it belongs to ends up getting really sick and weak it basically drains their life force and so they eventually get really sick and then they die um so there's a rebellion against this empire there's all kinds of things happening there's this adorable animal thing like we don't even know what he is he's some kind of cross between like a cat and an otter and something else and he's adorable and i'm loving this book so far so yes really glad that i picked this one up and hopefully i will finish it this month my reading's been quite slow but hopefully i will finish it this month and be able to give you my thoughts in my wrap-up because it's really good so far okay those that is the book haul those are all the books that i picked up in the month of march now let's get into uh what my reading plans are for april so let's start off with um the first two books that i plan on picking up one of those being win witch by susan dennard this is the second book in the witchlin series and jade from jd ray reads is currently hosting a witchlings along we read truthwitch in the month of march so we're going to be reading win witch in the month of april so i'm going to be picking this up first thing of course it's going to be a reread for me because i read this was it last year absolutely loved it gave it five stars i anticipate loving it the second time around like i did the first book and i'm really excited to do this reread and continue on with the series because i really enjoyed my reread of truthwitch so i'm hoping that this one will go just as well so that's the first book i'm going to be picking up and then i definitely want to get to the next book in the expanse series that i need to read i read the sixth book this month so next month i'm going to be picking up persepolis rising this is book number seven this is a adult sci-fi space opera series that i've really been loving i basically talk about it in every video so i'm sure you know about it by now but yeah really excited to continue on with that i really loved the sixth book and excited for things to come and then because you'll hear more about this in my wrap up but i'm having a really difficult time reading i don't want to call it a slump because i'm definitely reading books i just i still feel slumpy but it's not a song anyway um i wanted to do something really exciting to kind of boost my reading so i'm going to be doing a themed vlog for the first week of april i'm not going to tell you any of the books i'm going to be reading it's going to be a surprise and i'm excited to get that out to you for the second week of april don't have many plans i plan on mood reading as much as possible but here are some of the possibilities um name of the wind by patrick rothfist definitely want to get to this because it is the one book on my quarterly tbr that is the most intimidating to me so i want to get it through over with earliest do you know what i mean so i'm picking this one up first i'm going to attempt to read it in that second week of april and if it's the only thing i read that week so be it but it's definitely going to happen it's a priority so i'm really excited to to read it and see how it goes because so many people absolutely love it and i'm really hoping that i will feel the same way um and then i don't really know where my reading is gonna go from there but because of my my slumpy slump feelings i'm thinking that maybe reading outside of my usual genre might help i mean the books that i have planned for that first week might help me along with that but all the books i'm really interested right now are all fantasy so i don't know it might just be all fantasy once again a quarter of silver flames i might pick this one up that week too but i mean this book is 700 pages this book is 700 pages i don't know that i'm gonna get through both of these in that week but sometime during the month i would like to pick this up and see how it goes i do have some books though that are outside of fantasy that i might want to pick up either that second week or the last week of april the first one being reborn yesterday by tessa bailey this is a vampire romance and that's all i know about it tessa bailey is an author i've read from before i read fix her up by her and i really loved it it was a five star book for me so i really hope that i enjoyed this one as well and you know vampires are always always a selling point um and then i have the midnight library by matt haig so matt higg is an author i've read from before he's actually one of the authors that i wanted to read more from this year so this would be good to get to um this is about a woman who is having a really hard time and i think she decides to take her life um however she ends up in this midnight library which is a library between life and death and in that library she gets to kind of look at different directions that her life would have gone in if she had made different decisions and see what the outcome would have been i think that's the premise of this i think that this is going to really touch me emotionally and make me cry and i'm ready for it i'm ready for a good cry from this book so this might be something that i get to in the month of april as well then the most exciting thing that's happening in the month of april is of course the shadow and bone tv show it comes out on the 23rd i'm pretty sure yeah i think it's the 23rd that it comes out on so that week the week of the 19th through the 25th i am officially declaring to be grisha week so that's what i'm calling it i'm going to be reading nothing but grisha verse books i'm going to be watching the tv show and giving you my reactions i'm going to be vlogging that entire week so i really hope you're excited for this because i'm excited for this and of course if any of you guys want to read any of the books with me you're welcome to do so just let me know down in the comments i'm planning on re-reading king of scars by leigh bardugo this is the first book in the nikolai duology and the second book rule of wolves actually comes out today the day you're watching this on tuesday so i'm going to be rereading this and then picking up rule of wolves in that week and i'm really excited about it because i i absolutely loved king of scars it was a 5 out of 5 stars for me and i really hope that i'm going to love the second one as well and then as we get closer to the tv show i definitely want to reread shadow and bone so i have my beautiful stunning collector's edition of shadow and bone i'm going to reread this in anticipation for the tv show this is going to be interesting because it's been so many years since i've read shadow and bone and like so many people like to hate on on this series you know i know that it's not as good as six of crows but when i read this i loved it i think i gave every book five stars maybe not the last one ruined rising was not my favorite but i remember loving shadow and bone and siege and storm so i'm nervous because i don't know how i'm gonna feel about it so many years later but i'm still excited to give this a read and i want everything fresh in my mind when i pick up the tv show so anyone want to buddy reach out on fun with me let me know in the comments i'm super excited to give it a reread and see how it goes and then also for grisha week i'm going to be reading the lives of saints by leigh bardugo this is it's a book that would have been a book that people living in ravka would read it is full of saints from the grisha verse so we have like these beautiful full color illustrations of the saints and then we have a little bit of information on them like a page or two of information and i thought this would be just a really fun thing to read in that week as well if i don't get to it that's fine because i do have those two chunky king of scars books to get through that week as well hopefully i can fit this in there somewhere that is my plan for grisha week i hope you're excited i'm excited i cannot wait for you guys to see that vlog i cannot wait for the tv show i literally cried when i first saw the trailer for shadow and bomb because it was so beautiful and just everything that i could have wanted like the way they depicted the shadow fold and oh my god so beautiful anyway very excited for that i hope you are too and then we have the final week of april which is once again going to be another mood reading week i don't know what i'll pick up that week except for one book i'm definitely going to be picking up which is steeped in gold by cnn smart this comes out on the 20th of april but i'm not going to read it until after christian week i will be vlogging my experience reading it as well because it's my most anticipated book of the year i feel like i have to but i'm really excited to and this is a jamaican inspired fantasy it follows two rival witches who have to come together in order to defeat a common enemy i think it's going to be perfect and i've heard good things about it so far so i'm i'm excited but i also like i put so much expectation on this book that i'm really hoping it doesn't let me down so i'm just i'm trying to like go in with not so high of expectations but i mean i'm i'm beyond excited so i don't know but yeah i definitely will be reading this in the final week of april i will be vlogging my experience giving you all of my thoughts and whatever else i decide to pick up that week and that's pretty much it guys that is the books that i bought in march that is all of my reading plans for april do let me know down in the comments if you have any thoughts or opinions on the books that i mentioned let me know if you're excited for grisha week let me know if you want to read any of these books with me always up for a buddy read and that is gonna be it for me today so if you like this video don't forget to give it a thumbs up hit subscribe and i will see you in my next one bye guys
