hello everybody and welcome back to the next episode of city skylines with me biffer here in the city of teapot and today we are all about expansion i want to pick an area that we haven't really touched before and make some plans for some large expansion in the area that is what we're gonna do i just thought we'd have a quick look at a nighttime view of our city to start us off because oh i absolutely love it when the sun goes down and all the lights come on look at that good enough to be a screen saver on your desktop looks fantastic all wallpaper very good so the area that we are going to pick to expand to let me just move out a little bit here so a bit hard to see at night you can see the city obviously let's do it like this there we go so this is our port that's our marina that we've been building this is obviously our city but this piece of land down here there is loads of space so if we just come out of that view for a second and pop it back to sort of daytime-ish there we go excellent so we are going to expand in this part down here and what i would like is a ton of low residential housing all in here leading up to a nice beachfront i mean look at this look at these lovely beautiful white sands with the view out into the distance what is that over there hello oh it's where the ships are coming in and out they're all just all just congregated let's use my camera mod and come and have a look what are you all doing it's like a traffic jam for boats okay let's not bother too much about that okay yeah so that's what we're gonna do so i've been looking here and thinking how can we attach our loads to this area because even though it's gonna be low density there's gonna be a lot of people in this area here so what road access do we have if we have a look over here first of all so we've got highway access here which is going to help people get around and we've got this road that comes off and it's like yeah a small highway goes underneath carries on down here and loops around and connects up to this roundabout so we've got those two accesses accesses to the highway this one here has this road coming off now if we connected this road and just sort of drew it into here that's a lot of people coming through there but that could be one of our ways in because then it's just a quick nip round around about anywhere on the highway which is good we've also got this road here that goes all the way through then this is a huge road this is a six-lane road going in both directions and if we follow this along here this goes pretty much unimpeded all the way through the city which is what we want so there's a couple of roads off here and there a couple of roads off here and there to get to different places but overall it's unimpeded all the way back out to the highway so if people wanted to use that to get to places in the city but to get to the highway as well that would be fantastic now one thing i noticed about this fast road that looks at it i thought these cars are driving really slow on it what is the speed it's 40 mile an hour sorry sorry i know this upsets everybody 40 kilometers per hour why don't we try milo now 25 mile an hour no way that is utterly ridiculous for a road like that that would easily be i mean the max in this country is 70. that would easily be 70. so if i do that that's going to go i have to zoom in a bit that's going to go all the way up to the junction i'm going to change this to 70 all the way along because anywhere that there's turnings there's dedicated turning lanes you shouldn't be cutting across um but they are cutting across um which is slightly dangerous but there we go so yeah definitely gonna upgrade that maybe this little section here actually would slow down a bit so something like this you'd have some signs saying 70 60 down to 50 because of this little bit here but 25 along there that is nuts uh okay it's going to go too far let's just do 50 for that 50 for that and then we'll speed it back up again probably being over realistic here but oh i need to do it by hand 70 70 70. this little bit here i'll put that down to 60 because there's a lot of junction at type stuff going on and again we'll do a couple of 60s and then i want the rest back to 70 again so i'm probably actually if i do all of that like that first and then i'll just change these last two to 60 myself there we go so that should have gone all the way along to here 65 over the top yeah that's fair enough 65 there and then definitely back to 70 over here 70 70. all the way up 50 50 50. i changed that to 60 60 60 60 60. and then what's the actual highway 65 is that all i've never realized how slow the highway is this is like poof that needs to be up to 70. most definitely uh she's probably gonna be randomly changing some roads and not others but anywho yeah i'm gonna change that all to 70. but that is going to be our main our main way through and access to the highway definitely all 70 definitely it was 70. that is the maximum speed limit in the uk if you didn't know 70 that's all 65. hopefully i'm missing anything major we'll just do that one through there we're nearly at the end nearly there we'll do that one and that should have gone all the way out yeah excellent i'll look at the other ones off camera so that to me is a much better way of accessing this area as well as this road up here so what i'm thinking of doing is a couple of little changes along here so if we pick this road i don't want that to hit that road i want this road to carry on so i'm going to do that and then turn off my bulldoze and then we're going to sort of carry this one on and it's going to follow maybe just through here alongside that one through the middle of this area let's have a look i mean there's no there's no terrain here to speak of to follow anything like that it's all flat stuff so i'm just gonna sort of follow through the middle and we can always change this a bit later if we want to and i'm aiming for this area up over here there we go and then i want to connect it up to this so what i'm thinking of doing is is deleting that that and that don't worry we'll come back to you my friends and this bit it's like too steep oh okay yeah there's a bit of a slope here all right let's uh let's just try and follow the terrain a little bit here still ended up going over the top let's put a bridge through there a bridge a tunnel through there thanks that's exactly what i wanted you did not do it oh i know what it is this road probably doesn't have a tunnel version okay forget it then and then we're going to connect up with this one yeah let's not do it like that gonna work let's just go a little bit straighter here we can level this road out a bit more when we get there you're gonna line me up with that one you know we can do that and then we can just move this bit down a bit ever slightly there we go so that's not too shabby that is very lumpy bumpy so what i'm going to do is use the movement mod i'm going to grab oh do you know what having my mods back after doing that vanilla or the start of that vanilla traffic fit not traffic fix cable car challenge oh i tell you makes the world of difference suddenly just come along and go bish bash and bosh and there you're done whoops let's turn that one off let's do this one just smoothly smooth we're gonna smooth this smooth all the way down here that goes a bit porky bulky doesn't it let's grab this again so we'll go there there there and there align that then we're going to go there there there there and there underline that yeah left me with a bit of a whoa so i left me with a bit of a top section but that's okay up and over a hill and i think the rest of that goes through okay so that now just continues straight all the way through one side of the city to the other nice big fast road then there's no problem with having a connection off of here so we'll grab this road here and we'll just go straight through from one side to the other oh just as i clicked it i move my mouse there we go and if we do it like that we can have dedicated turning loans we can have give way and give way and then up here we can have dedicated cellulites there we go so that can get the cars through to there and we could even have another connection over here what have we got we've got some football stadium uh football pitches there so we'll do the same thing there as well give them some access that should be good um for those that are wondering i've been putting a lot of information out i don't want the parking one i don't even know what i'm looking for here this one oh what happened there let's try that again i was i've been putting a lot of information out about there's like two nodes in there that is weird about my jumpy game i think i've solved it there is still the odd sort of little stutter in the game but i think now we're sort of getting to the point where that's just because it doesn't quite look right does it because i you know i've got such a big city um you know and that's to be expected from time to time why is this one acting so weird yeah that'll do but my regular jumpy jump that i was getting like oh it was every it was like every minute and a half on the nose it was doing it and it was driving me insane i made a bit of a joke of it with it oh jumpy game thing but it just drove me insane the one thing it would cause a problem with which was like a real pain in the neck which let's just say i wanted to record a time lapse just a very simple all the cars going around the roundabout time lapse i'd set the camera up like that press record oh there we go there's a stutter there and it would just be jumping every minute jump every minute jump every minute jump and it just meant i couldn't record anything principality i always had to use the camber mod and do it in slow motion it took absolutely hours just for a tiny little simple very quick time lapse so a little bit annoying but hopefully the worst is behind us so this will end up meeting up with this as well in other places so that's fine um this is a six-lane road let's just sort this out here um is it shift to turn that on it is that's okay that's better yeah that's okay don't mind the odd little wiggle here and there oh people are using it already this is six lanes going into four what happens when it comes down here it's a t-junction i think we might just have to to let that be what it is and hopefully they'll merge in okay and it won't be a huge problem so that's our main access into this area down here and i think that's going to work quite well and i'm just sorting out the speed on these ones so right it's 70 then it's gonna be 50 right by the junction and 60 like that so you slow down a little bit to the junction and then you can just carry on again and that should be okay oh there's another junction here um so let's just change that so that's going to be 16 that's going to be 60 and that is going to be 50 i don't know why i haven't played with miles an hour before in fact that should be 50 all the way through you've got the two junctions there that would make more sense to me yeah i should i should have had miles an hour on ages ago i got so used to whatever it was set at and i suppose i think in my audience as well most of you probably i don't know do you use kilometers or miles an hour let me know in the comments below so there we go so we're gonna need a few collector votes coming off of here now what i'd like to do here is something different something i don't do very often so we've got this big arterial road i'm not gonna zone off of this at all we're gonna build some nice sort of park area things around that to help people get from one side to the other and then we're gonna need some arterial roads like these one uh sorry some collector roads like these ones here to connect the different areas together so i'm going to grab this one and see where else we could connect up so we've got this here i want that to be kept as like a separate little entity um i'm just looking we could have another one coming out of here i want to give people as much option as possible to get to different places in the city that is that is the idea if you come out like that's gonna have a slight turn on it that's good i'll come back and do the traffic signs and and lanes and speed limits and all of that and then i do want some sort of connection over here so where could we go in here would be perfect it might mean we just upgrade this rope this is this is suddenly becoming more of a sort of mini collector road is that even a thing i don't know so i might just upgrade that to the four lane up to that point there so let's chuck that in i like the four lane as well because you can get the dedicated turning lanes this bit down here that's only going from the ferry to that section so that's okay i'm happy to do that well i've dedicated turning lanes there and there and there and then what is the speed of this road 30 see to me yeah i would have like all i'm not gonna go around changing them all all of these would be 30 to me in this sort of area and then this would be 50 along here like this and you wouldn't bother with like a little slow down because of the junction and then this would be 30 and these would certainly be more than that yeah i don't know whether they're is there a way now you people that know know your mods inside out and stuff is there a way to have roads automatically set to be a certain speed so i don't have to go through and change them all let me know in the comments below if you know about that or send me a tweet or something so that's gonna go give way actually with that might actually end up being traffic lights there because that's like a collector meeting another sort of mini collector we'll see how busy it gets we might be able to get away with that and in that one there i want that let's have a look at the terrain as well yeah i want that to sort of go through the middle of the trees here and sort of connect over there and i want to try and get that to be a straight connection almost yeah there we go like that that'll be good there we go we'll do that we'll do that excellent i'll do this now as i'm gonna forget we'll do that see that's one collector meeting another collector maybe should be traffic lights but we'll go with that we'll see how it we'll see how it fares there we go excellent see people are using them already so any of these cars that are now or trucks that are coming down here that's stopping them driving through all of this so they're now taking the faster road to get in and out which is absolutely brilliant that is what we want to see okay so that's another one there and then i'm thinking down here now this is a lot this is a lot down here i'm going to have another collector coming down here and then i'm going to start building off of here a grid oh shock horror buffer builds a grid it's been i don't remember the last time i built an area that was a grid but i want to sort of give it a try you know proper grid a proper grid just for this area down here so this collector what i'm thinking is is this one's going to come through here and then connect down here again sort of like this so this is going to be our main road as it were for this area like that and then we can build off of that and that will give access to all of these of the collector to the arterial back out of the city a little bit of road hierarchy stuff going on today everybody loves it let's make sure there's not a traffic light there that one we did and then the other end we'll do that and we'll do that excellent so how are we going to line up our grid so what i'm going to do first of all i'm going to just use normal bog standard roads we may too lame with grass does that take off parking let's just put one of those in and then we can easily check it with that yeah no parking on that one thi whoa this'll have parking okay give me a straight road yeah i know the trees won't have parking we've got two lane with bicycle lanes no parking i want one that's got parking but it's a little bit more interesting this one to be good because i know that's got parking on oh it doesn't really oh okay all right we'll use the bog standard one this one here and then if we want to upgrade any individual ones to make them sort of any nicer we can do that so yeah let me think how we're going to do our grid along here hmm oh i knew i'd forget about this guy let's get our taxi depot just for now you can go back onto there very good very good now one other thing i want to put in here before we start building this all up of course is other transit options i mean we could put buses in here we could do all sorts of things but certainly a train station down here would be a very good idea where is the nearest train station let's just have a quick look at this and that's not really helping music i want this one so we've got a train line that runs along here we've got train there and then it just goes up round there and then we've got the cargo one there so that is it basically so we need to have it sort of split off and have a train station somewhere around here i'm just wondering whether if we popped it in the middle here um i don't want it on the arterial road actually if we popped it off of this road down here then we could run our train line off along here loop it round and we've got to be careful here because we've got a separate cargo line this one but i think it's still got passengers on it yeah it has so our trains are actually working okay so i mean we could even bring that one round hook it into there and then back up to there i think that would just work fine because we've got our train line so sorted over here with our train junctions that even just the odd little bit that mixes the two together i don't think that is an issue so let's just pause this a second what i'm gonna do is i'm just gonna draw straight over everything like this and then we'll come back and fix it afterwards so that is going to loop around the back that is then going to come over there what i'm aiming to do is do it right in the middle of the two nodes which will help me with a bit i'm going to do next um let's just pick a nice i've only got a couple of stations but the ohio train station which we have used before the sun contract train station we've used before let's just use the normal train station and i would have that off of the collector mode so here i would definitely use an asymmetric rose let's just find a spot yeah sort of in the middle-ish so we're going to come we'll do a section like this coming in there and then we'll come along and we'll come out there that's good so we've got the asymmetric roads nice and good coming in fish bash and a little bit of bosch like that good good good and then we can connect those two up with let's have a nice uh yeah with trees so hopefully what's going to happen here is is these guys won't there we go we'll try and park on this road because that's not what we want and then if we pop that sort of halfway along like that now we can we can decorate that we can put some parking in all sorts of things so let's sort of curve around that's perfect like that and then this one here i want that to sort of curve around sharp curve there but that's okay then i want that to cross over let's take that back a bit again in the middle of two nodes like that and then this one is going to curve around and sort of connect to there so it almost ends up being a one-way train system so they're coming in they're going round and going out there i don't want to limit it to that so what i might just do as well is take another loop off here and we're going to curve that around that can go the other way yeah so i had anarchy on so i'm just going to check yeah so that one can get in there that one can get out there that's fine and they're joining together no problem which is good so let's just sort out our roads and such so if we grab the movement mod so either side actually i'm going to delete that one in the middle ah darn it this road doesn't have a bridge version does it we've had that problem before i think we've got a normal six i don't know whether that is this one here let's just see all i want it to do is be up in the air oh yeah that one does so there we go we'll just change to that one to go over the top and that should be plenty of room under there and we can do the same here because i put it in between the two nodes um we'll put that in i'll just lift this up a little bit i'm going to do the same height as that is that going to be enough probably not i'll just drop down normally i'm trying not to sort of change the elevation of the train line but i think in this case it's going to be such a small amount there we go and then this span across the top if we just use the move it mod isn't going to be too bad then is it and then what we could do is go there there there and there and just smoothly smooth and then we use the node controller on the one node controller i thought i had it already grab that one and flattened segment yeah there we go save it being a bit weird yeah that's okay so that's that one that's that one and then this one here didn't quite do it in the middle there did i just move that node up move that node out there we go then we can delete that middle section um yeah actually i was going to undo i can't undo there's no one doing the game uh if i connect that back up again yeah let's do this we'll connect it back up again what i'm gonna do here is what i was thinking of doing before is to go underground with that that's what i normally do i need another node here do you mind just adding one for me thanks it's going to be a custom no it's going to be a middle yep that's what i want so then i can use that one how low does that need to go a little bit lower let's get those two again let's get this ice cream van under there yeah that should be fine and then what i can do is delete that use the move it mod we'll turn that off just to sort of get that to the edge and then we'll put that over the top so that elevation doesn't change too much like that yeah that's okay and then we'll lift this one up people can fit under there okay that is actually quite low isn't it let's see oh here we go is it gonna get his doughnut through no okay let's just lower this down a tiny bit more so that one on that one we'll just go down like that and then we can just smooth this out so we'll go there there and there yeah slope and then there there and there yeah that's fine that's okay then that comes through to there excellent so that should be fine and we've got a little bit of terrain smoothing to do nothing too major that's okay that's okay this bit here goes through a bit of a drop we can smooth that that's okay and then it all connects up fantastic so that's going to give us loads of access through here right so let's quickly have a sip of tea while it's saving which is fantastic saves a lot much quicker i'll tell you since i've put all this on a super fast ssd which is great so now we need our grid and where are we going to start our grid well let's just grab our basic road and our grid just needs to be somewhere let's just level this off home key there we go i'm going to do our grid sort of level with this so we're going to start there and i'm thinking of literally 10 by 10 grids through here we can we can sort of smooth these out as we go and then connecting that to what we've got and i want to see what that looks like because why not so let's give it a go [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] and there we go there is our gridded area and it still has in my opinion an organic feel to it there's some weird sort of road connections dead ends crisscrosses but it does all conform to the same grit but it's been adjusted where needed so where the railway line comes in here any connecting touching roads have been removed apart from this one here we've got a nice little rail crossing got a couple of rail crossings there might remove one of those we'll see how it goes and another one there lots of little paths to connect the roads to the outside road and even though some of these uh oh jumpy game we got one today even though some of these junctions are quite close we've still got all dedicated turning lanes and i'm thinking there's so many road connections to our collector road that we should be fine and another benefit to doing proper road hierarchy is your districts can nicely line up to the road i need a name for this district um let me know in the comments below any suggestions you've got let me just add in some healthcare and services and whatnot to cover all of this and then i think we're gonna be good to go oh look here comes some trains i guess these are probably intercity trains passing through where the heck are you going why are you coming around this loop when uh let's turn off the movie mod when you really shouldn't be let's see so where are you going you're going through there and then out here might need to set up a bypass there i won't worry about that now anyway so i would like to set up this here to look like a self-sufficient buildings type area so we're going to have all the green buildings in here as for our zoning we are only going to put commercial um in areas that are alongside our collector road rather than in the middle everything in the middle is going to be residential and we've got all of our services spread out nicely uh yeah we'll pop a few in there so let me just fill this in there we go the only slight change i've made is i put some offices around the train station but apart from that commercial on the outside residential in the middle and a few offices and and i think that should be pretty good to go at some point actually i'll tell you what i'm going to do i'm going to do it now is i want to park in the middle here i'm going to take out that and that this is going to be a park um i'm also going to do another one over here that's going to be a park so let's just remove any zoning that's in those there we go and that one there i want a little park not there i want a little park there and then i want to park over here let's remove that one and we'll take the zoning out there just to add a little bit of interest and then what i'm going to do i'm just going to quickly remove all of those trees with the tree brush mod because they're all going to get built over and that will just save us a little bit of fps in fact i'm just going to take all of them out in this section and we can put any back that we want and then let's just see what the growth is like in here so give me a couple of minutes and we'll take a look at that [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] um [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] do [Music] and here we go it is looking absolutely fantastic even if i do say so myself had to add in a couple of institutes of creative arts just to get some of the education levels up i added in this one oh can you hear that if you can't hear that upgrading noise then i don't know what's going on listen to that everybody is so pleased to move in and live here that is apps look you can see them all upgrading fantastic yeah plot this one in here and it filled up to 800 within seconds got a public library over here needs some detailing but we're running out of time another public library over there possibly one over here yeah there we go to hopefully increase the uh education levels and then just a few trees dotted through here i think this area has turned out really really nice i'm loving the fact that it's gridded but it is also got that organic feel to it as well there's a few things we need to do we need to set up a train line we need to do all sorts of other stuff the traffic is building up a little bit over here so this is definitely gonna change from um give way to a time traffic light so let's just pop that in there but for now we're gonna have to
