[Music] so [Music] my [Music] so guys on this live video it might be a little bit different than what you're used to seeing on the channel we had a good fellow youtuber friend that happens to be in our area that's interested in laying eyes on a 1957 chevy 210 car we bought a while home back now this car is pretty rough she's been setting a while and she's very neglected so i've got him on the phone i'm trying to show him a few video clips of just what he might expect once he gets [Music] definitely got our fair share of rust in here too be fred flintstone in this one so the story that we got when we purchased this car is that it had been sitting out in a field for at least 50 years now uh we've had it here at the shop for around two and still haven't done anything with it ourselves i don't know a whole lot about it it looks to be fairly complete it's just an inline six cylinder motor with an automatic transmission and now i don't know if it was running when it was parked or even if it'll ever run again don't have no distributor in it so i don't know if someone stole it or what the deal is on that well me and dad are going to go ahead and pull this old girl inside the shop uh we'll dig into her and just see what happens the thing about these live streams is you just never really know what to expect or what you're going to run into but i know with the right help and good company it should be very interesting to see how this goes [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] man i'm a weather man [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] well you guys asked for it and this guy made it happen so we got derek with vice grip garage all the way from minnesota down here in the little old town of pagoda texas so uh we're here live with another uh live will it run revival video i guess you'd call it on this 1957 chevy 210 car we got me and dad bought this car about two years ago and uh basically all we've done with it is load it on the trailer and let it set and take up a parking spot out in the lot so he was down somewhat close to the area down in around austin i guess austin doing a little traveling around here so uh he was willing to make it down to the shop we're super excited to have him here and me and we got dad back here you can't see him right now but me and dad and uh derek we're gonna jump in here and just see if we can get her up and running uh she's missing the distributor distributor we do know that and i've kind of rounded up some some few extra parts to make this go a little smoother if it can but we got some brains with us here too so i don't know where he's pointing but it ain't me but we appreciate everybody that was able to make this live feed tonight uh we're definitely going to just have a lot of fun with it we don't know what to expect we hope she runs but with this uh you're doing it live you just never know so what do you think where are you where do you want to start on her well first of all thanks for having me i really appreciate it um i think we just kind of look her over a little bit i just been staring at it she's pretty rough to be honest i mean it's yeah she is and believe it or not this was my little christian my little sister found interest in this car until we come across the ranchero so she kicked us this one to the curb real quick but yeah i guess where i usually start is just making sure the thing just rolls over right you know see if it turns over sounds at least halfway decent dish yeah knowing that we don't have a distributor is a little scary don't know if it was what the reasoning was behind that but yeah that's really it's kind of odd usually they'll they'll take the fuel make it happener or the manifolds or a head but pull on the distributor right usually means something bad bearing or timing chain or something they left the cap in the old brittle spark plug wires that are forever shaped the way they're shaped yeah oh we're missing one you got some champions in there did you know that he was the original creator of the ac spark plug oh yeah yeah last name was champion i think i think so we we do have some oil in there it's a little little on the grayish milky side it'll work a little bit of fuel in there not too bad but there's no water which is right a good sign yeah this wasn't covered up no i think the breather has been there since we got it uh so the story on this car that we got from the gentleman that we bought it from as he bought basically it wasn't really an old wrecking yard it was kind of probably like an older of an older gentleman my style that just had too many vehicles setting up and it had been sitting for 50 years when he bought it we've had it a couple years around the shop so i'm guessing 55 to 60 years this car has just been sitting hasn't been messed with we're going to go ahead and grab a battery that's going to be our easiest thing the belt's broke so we can't really turn it over by the fan we can get on the crank on the pulley if we have to to turn it over but i think we're going to work try to work as easy as possible so we're going to put a battery on here don't have any keys but all of us are pretty familiar on what to do without without the set of keys so we'll grab a battery and see what she does yeah it's actually pretty tight in here so even trying to get you know a wrench on the crank which you can on these because they're press fit is pretty tough so plus we want to see if that ignition works anyway eventually yeah i'm gonna get this out of the way here i got it wedged up in there or didn't want nobody stealing that after they stole their distributor i guess i'm surprised that didn't go away if the distributor's gone a lot of wires cut in here hopefully we don't need them here's some more you know what that's doing these are cut all the same color too so that'll be fun that's that's my style that way you don't get them mixed up they're all the same color yeah use a universal clamp on that there you go like i said there's no keys but i'll see if this sometimes these old ignition switches will go ahead and you want to do the honors i think let me see if this thing will turn over no nothing i got dash lights oh i gotta see that ain't even a fuel gauge really yeah is there something in it it sounds full see oh yeah i bet it's full of rust or air or something besides gas hopefully there's no crud on the cylinders but give her a rip try getting that in there and wires and everything in the way that helps us left-handed holes in the way and lines and everything else there we go this would be a little easier if we had a key yeah nice she is at least turning over so we are we're having to jump it across uh just at the uh at the starter solenoid there because the ignition switch it'll come on the dash lights and stuff will come on but apparently we have a bad wire that runs down to that solenoid so we're just jumping it across there we may try to tackle that later just to see how far we get involved in this thing of what it's going to do but now that we know that it's turning over what do you say probably pull the plugs and get that distributor set in there and yeah let's i guess we'd take the plugs out maybe take a look at them see what they're looking like and make sure that we didn't have a drop valve or something in the past and we can also see if how it was running when it was parked super rich or lean but these 235s are tough engines they built these in 1941 and i think they stopped making them around 1962 and they actually started putting these in heavy trucks first so they weren't like grain trucks anything with a tilt bed so they're a really stout engine and in 1950 gm didn't have another inline six ready so they started putting these in passenger cars and then eventually light duty trucks in fact this is the same engine that was in um 53 to 55 corvettes they just changed the compression ratio and then i had three single barrel fuel make it happeners instead of the the one right but boring stroke never changed the the only thing i never really understood is in this is a power glide right so automatic yeah and 53 every 235 that came with an automatic had their advanced oiling which was just a fancy engine nerding term for hydraulic lifters but if you got the bolt action they came with solid lifters i don't know why they did that yeah solid lifters had a little more horsepower i guess but i was looking on the odometer of this thing looks like it's about 82 000 is what it's showing so i think this even if it was 182 000 they're pretty yeah they're pretty tough engines this is kind of up there with the ford 300 they're almost indestructible i mean it's a good sign that she is turning over you thought a lot of moisture and stuff get down in everything was this off or did we take that i pulled that off just to take a peek in there real quick it's like boy these are crusty yeah they're forever staged in that position i believe got that medusa look to it you need a shorter extension good tool holder hopefully we'll at least see a consistent burn here on the speculators dirt dauber welded one of them in there sticky this is really sticky i wonder i i really doubt there's an accelerator pump but maybe we put some wd-40 in it real quick and see if we at least get her there's a couple of which one was the front one the one right there we'll lay them out so these don't look too bad uh the electrode is a brownish black which is about what you want to see so that's a good sign so far that i mean they're not suited yeah not only or anything is this your juice yeah that's pretty smart idea we had a big old gallon of it so that was the easiest way to get it out oh he's he's already ginning with it there we go yeah here's number three yeah same story this one's got a little moisture on it though so sometimes was this sitting in grass you figure maybe i bet so yeah sometimes moisture will creep up the old exhaust and get in there yeah the floor pans are gone i'm sure it probably sunk down in the ground in the low spot and set for a while the good news though is these are not the original speculators so it's at least been maintenance on at some point in its life i'll try to get out of the way here i'm blocking no comments on us airing up the tires yet we'll see if we get that far come across another set of wheels and tires just in case we do but uh i don't know how well this thing's gonna work with us but another cool we've actually got a so we've actually got a couple different options on the distributor whenever i knew that it needed one i was kind of kind of frantically trying to find one i made a facebook post and didn't have no help at first so i went ahead and ordered one off amazon and sure enough after i ordered one i had two buddies reach out to me and i went ahead and grabbed both of them off of them just in case we needed parts from one for the other so we've got an hei that i ordered off amazon and then we've got some point-style ones so we'll make a decision on what we want to do on that and get it be sure we get it all in top dead center get it set down in there and do you want me to show the difference yeah so yeah we'll show you all kind of what we got going on here's the plugs kind of show you these first so they're kind of a brown suit we don't have any heavy oil buildup or anything in here so i mean that's plenty fine but basically you've got a points distributor here which runs with the coil and then you have your hei over here this would be more along the lines what was originally in it and basically how this system works will start at the key when you turn the key you're sending 12 volts to a battery that comes into your ignition coil now the ignition coils they have a primary winding and a secondary winding the primary winding comes down the center the secondary winding goes around the outside of the coil so in this case that energy comes through first post out the second into your distributor here and then on the inside here is your contact points and this opens and closes off of the distributor cam you can maybe see it there and what that's doing is when this opens it's interrupting the circuit and it collapses the emf which engages the primary winding in the coil and this sends and by now it's converted it from 12 volts to usually 20 to 22 000 unless you got a nascar unit and that shoots out the energy to the cap and then you've got the rotor button here and all this is doing is when this rotor aligns with one of these points it sends that electricity through down the spark plug wire to the spark plug this is just an electrode in the center the tip here is grounded to earth right to the engine and basically when the electricity exceeds the resistance between the two that spark jumps between it and that's how you get spark down here so a lot of people get nervous with this stuff because it sounds fairly complicated but it's really not and i tried to explain it as easy as i can but hei then came out i'll kind of slide this over a little bit try not to drop anything and this is high energy ignition hei gm owns most of the patents on this stuff but it has a lot of the same components it's just easier to set up because a lot of the things you don't need to do coils here coils here there's a pickup rotor in here that actually does the opening and closing of the signal which is what the points do over here the nice thing with hei is you can adjust it it's preset and the ignition control module controls your dwell which in this case you would have to measure it with the dwell meter so these are really a more of a plug and play you just stab them in long as you have 12 volts you adjust your initial and advanced timing or all in timing and you're ready to go it's a lot simpler setup plus you make a little bit more power out of this setup first the points there so yeah i told you we had the brains with us tonight we've got the mussels over there and i don't know what you're going to call me but what i'm going to go ahead and do right now is try to turn this crank over and get this uh number one cylinder up at the top on top dead center that way when we put this in we'll have to do you happen to know the the uh the timing order and all that mess or one five three six two four cool so if we can get that because there's no marks that i see down here on the should be a little notch in that puppy that's what i was looking for and i didn't see anything well it won't hardly turn over just i wonder we can maybe run a wire off of that and a wire here and we can just jump it jump it up here and solve this oh yeah instead of kind of make our own loan with 6 000 here well there it goes yeah it's going i don't see any kind of notch though or anything it would even line up with well we can do it the old-school way i can hold my finger in here and when we feel that compression i might be able to take a gander in here and watch the valve open and close too you're stronger than me i couldn't do that i tried to teach him everything i knew got to make sure in case she's using that back angle i ain't showing too much back angle okay there's a valve that must be the exhaust so keep going right there mommy keep going there keep going a little bit more a little bit more a little bit more a little more one more yeah i think so so that should be close we watched the valve open and closed we could hear the compression so should be close enough yeah to do it so now we just got to decide what kind of system we want to run here yeah um so did you eyeball them very closely to see which distributor would even be i didn't i know the one i was holding the points are rotten on it for sure that guy yeah this is a little bit different set up these are burned i i do have some points as long as we've got the right ones so let me go check them out real quick did our gopro are over here that overhead went so dad you might be able to uh go to battery yeah okay let me just grab a battery it would be kind of neat to run hei on this because a lot of people struggle with changing from points to hei and it's actually relatively simple but there's also the nostalgia of getting it fired up on points too yeah so yeah i've got a bag full of stuff right here and i've got a box full of different stuff over there we tried to be ready as much as we could and these honestly don't look right so that might make our decision real quick i think that's a condenser it's a button [Applause] condenser you did bring some firepower here close yeah i guess they are well looks like the same base well it's up to you it's your car unless you give me a good deal on it i might just have to take it home yeah let's go ahead and try to uh go ahead and put these points in here if we can get that gopro going real quick give us a little spot to show everybody what we're doing and how to adjust them and stuff like that adjust them best we can ain't i guess we could probably test this coil too no sense and waste the money there right tested you got a multimeter we can yeah throw on that quick yeah i guess we need to decide too i can turn that key over and see if it's sending juice to the yeah that's a good point well this should come right off the this is going to the was going to the starter i just ripped it off the accessory post so we'll need a fitting on that or something so this should be caught with the key turned on on the ignition side of the cylinder yeah because here's the sending from the mission you probably recognize that oh yeah digital 400. get that one going there okay so what he's doing now is uh we're going to check the cool to see if if this cool is going to work i'm going to turn the key over here in a little bit and see if we've got juice actually run into it if we're going to have to figure out how to get juice down to it got an extra cool but if we can use the parts that are on here save a little money plus it's just kind of cool seeing them run on the old stuff that was left out there 50 60 years ago you want to try the key yeah is that a dinosaur voice that every time i open the door that's a car alarm all right yeah got 12 9 key off key on kiev and that's not bad considering that up here on the battery you got 13 1. so this old wiring is actually holding up pretty good there's not a lot of loss there so test the coil that's disconnected do camera shots i don't know how to run here digitron here i've never tested one so i'm trying to learn ain't gonna be no help on that oh well that's one of those harbor freights when you buy so much you get a gift for free oh yeah the good one that's one of those let me try it on the new one quick and then i'll be back with you i got to make sure this is working there we go secondary winding any luck yep so that one's fine and then i'm trying to remember i think it's across but you got to change the there we go 8.9 so that's an example of a new one so secondary winding is just post to post primary winding is centered a common basically but i wasn't getting anything on here there it is and that's why this has an external resistor so that's fine i just think that dips are so corroded on the coils not making i'm seeing it jump there you go so i think this coil is plenty fine actually so i'm going to go over here and start switching out these old points and condensers on this distributor uh so we're going with the one that's covered in oil and grime at the base of it here i've got a new rotor button and all that stuff so these you can tell up inside here they get over time they kind of just get built up with some corrosion and stuff and you can just take a little file or sandpaper and clean them up but we're just going to go ahead and and replace these ones real quick to try not to fight too much stuff let me get that screw to come out put this condenser off here and then worst case scenario if this uh doesn't do what we want it to we'll throw that other hei distributor up in there and see what it does with that a little trouble breaking that one loose maybe it doesn't maybe that's just good great you have to use your muscles on that i think we'll have to get christian in here to crack this thing loose i don't know i i really can't get it it's in there ain't it will it tightening in even move yeah isaac oh well i guess that explains it cool all right so get this down in there need a little oil yeah a little oil or a can with a straw oh perfect i'm going to drop just a little bit of oil down each cylinder here if i can just uh just to help them out a little bit they've been sitting that long i can't imagine they're shiny and good looking yeah that's usually i have to start my mornings out right there a little oil in the pistons i imagine if this fires up it's going to smoke pretty good till those rings come back around yes sir okey dokey i'm surprised that starter still took off right yeah oh crispy i don't know we'll get much run time out of it but this one's about ready well i can't even that's hard water wow yeah nothing in there i just find it weird that they would take the distributor but i mean this radiator is hard to find that carburetor right brake master does the brake pedal work in this i don't even know i haven't tried it let me try it you can try it well i'm here so don't fall don't step through the floor stuck it's solid so we know those work just for giggles maybe we put a little juice in there and just see if we can get it to work free show me your wd-40 got to do something he's over there doing all the hard work scientists i ain't getting anywhere oh yeah yeah she's drier than my chicken account there's nothing in there rust rust well give her a swallower let that sit a while and that's the best way to find those leaks too yeah absolutely finally i hope she hasn't had the camera going on me this whole time that'd be extremely boring so we changed the brakes we got away from the air brakes and put fluid in there so i wonder is the exhaust bent up on this sometimes they get folded over and that is the longest muffler i've ever seen though the muffler is about the length of the door yeah she ought to be real quiet and the frame does look good i was well at least from this view and we'll call that good enough see minnesota craigslist they just say surface rust oh yeah no issues wow they call this a floor air it's a bell or not much floor left in the thing how you coming over there got around adjusting them out real quick so hopefully the ballast resistor is good in this we can bypass that temporarily if we need to once we get that plugged in and basically that's just continuity so we would just make sure that our voltage coming in is the same voltage coming out and then off to the coil at that point i think that should oh yeah brand new fully refurbed is that where you want them adjusted you want them more or less i just i can't see i just eyeballed them is that a business card about yeah yeah a little more probably yeah great stuff dollar bill the little screw that almost broke off trying to trying to get out is actually the screw that adjusts them oh it pulls them in and out yeah yeah so do you have a light i can shine down in got to line this up with the oil pump and we don't know where they pulled that out so that is straight back and forth you to hold it i'll hold it yeah just try not to fall in here is the main thing there it goes the uh the day after we pulled this car in here trying to prep the camera angles and stuff uh dad found a snakeskin on the floor so we don't know if they come out of this or if it comes out of that old bronco or we went ahead and let you get all this far before we let you know yeah well hopefully it's long gone it's i think that bolt will fit down in there if we want to try to even mess with it do you have the rotor button in here uh yeah somewhere i think we might need to make an adjustment number one might be pointing i don't know maybe the viewers can help here and comment but how are you yeah see normally when i set these up i like the number one kind of back over here whereas like a v8 you would point it at number one but i think from the from the assembly line it was over here and this is going back here we can change that by dialing the pump but what do you guys think leave it here or try to move it uh let's try it all there which way i can't see though so which way is it going oh it's facing towards the back yeah i mean it don't really matter if we still line up the firing order it's just the next guy you might be confused next guy may be you price is right i'll drive it home this was a nice teal color i don't know the paint code but this is a really nice patina on it though i don't know if you saw the custom pinstripes as well that had to have been a that had been a 80s thing though i guess not i don't know if it's i kind of liked it i was surprised when i saw that but it's not horrible looking well i suppose we got to get some juice down to this now we got to make a little wire come off the coil down to what you guys probably call a distributor i call it a lightning roller and then we can see if we've got some spark down there with we can roll it over and just kind of eye it what do we need on this floors kind of two sides yeah two spades we can whip something up i think i got some over here it should be a black wire so if you have red that'd be fun yeah dude that's all i've got [Applause] let's see where i put those ends oh here goes the bricks yep moving okay dad i had some little uh oh where was that bag of stuff that i left it over here i had some little ends oh this thing smells like a mummy wrapped in old newspaper it's not very good i ain't gonna ask how you know how that smiles i thought you left you just disappeared yeah so this is what's running your gauges and whatnot mm-hmm maybe we should wrap that with some duct tape or something get some sparks flying yeah we can use that wire there what length you need oh that's probably good right there that'll be too long and not long enough well guys y'all think that she's gonna run for us i don't know how big the terminals are but that's too small ain't it i might have to use it you have the splatter uh yeah something like that 10-4 that should work i need a smallish wrench you guys good with wrench sizes i just keep guessing until i get it right we just we just grab whatever uh we can actually find i was telling them last video whenever i was going to uh school in california and we broke down and i didn't have the right socket so i ended up using a penny inside of a socket to take my thermostat housing off sure it worked if it works it works we got us to the next town anyways and then we got to change the intake gasket i guess i could have loosened this before i put it in here cramped them twice for a little extra horsepower i'm just ruining the i gotta take this distributor back out i'm gonna ruin these points if i keep spinning this button make sure that button is the same height were you able to get this loose uh no i didn't that's my my current i ended up pushing it on there i'll see if i can break that loose because we're going to need to get it loose to get the wire on well if some of y'all are just joining in uh we're attempting to get this old 57 chevy 210 up and running she's been parked away she's been parked for at least 50 years we know 52 years solid uh she's been parked it was missing a distributor when we bought it we don't know why on that so that's kind of got us a little concerned it's got the original 235 inline six cylinder motor in it uh she is turning over so she wasn't locked up which was going to be my kind of major fear on it but she's turning over it's got the automatic transmission in it so now we've got another distributor an original style with points we're putting back in there so we're trying to get that installed make sure we got it in time and then everything some of the wiring has been disconnected or basically just rotted or been ate away with by something so we're just kind of trying to make up a little bit of wiring as we go here i think we'll be able to you know start it actually turn it on to power to the coil with the key rather than you know bypassing that so that's the idea now once we get this distributor back in here uh we'll turn the key on jump it across at the solenoid and then just see if we're getting fire and then the points are sparking there we go i think we're making a little bit of headway over here for now the post on this distributor was stuck so when we were trying to turn the nut on the outside it was turning the whole thing and binding up the contact in here so i don't know derek you know anything about this little condenser looking thing that's on the coil there uh external resistor okay so that that goes from the from the negative side down to the distributor as well correct so when the points open that absorbs the energy and saves the contacts from getting burned up prematurely because that energy's got to go somewhere while it's momentarily open i guess i still need to try to splice into that wire down low too i don't know why i felt hitting it would help it didn't do anything not much wire left here for me to try to splice onto so i'm trying to see if i can i may go ahead and pull that nut loose if i can and put a new end on that wire okay so i've got this little alligator clip that'll help you with anything [Music] i don't think that wire is going to be long enough oh yeah let me go ahead and clean back this one it might be long enough i think this might be ready for when you're ready i just saw a comment someone said needs a v8 and some folks don't realize that these little girls put out 140 horse about 215 foot pounds of torque oh wow which back then was yeah that was a lot yeah that was a lot and some of those v8s you're right they're in the same unless you're really hopping them up these are really torquey especially down low have to be pretty good to move this much weight oh absolutely yeah well like i said they were in the heavy trucks they pulled 10 12 bales and however many bushels of grain and everything else i got that stripped down so you should be good to go once we'll just clip it down there and back on that solenoid i don't have the finesse in my fingers anymore i used to you smash them so many times they just don't work right so we've been going live for about uh about 48 minutes now um got her turning over hopefully going to see if it'll at least get a little spark real quick and if we're getting some spark that'll jump us ahead seem like real quick uh then we'll put a little fuel down in this carburetor and see if she tries to spit or sputter and then make a decision of what would be the best thing to move forward next with on that feels like it's been 10 minutes if you need to throw it off camera just mute your mat got it go out the exit door first i don't really like how this is sitting in here kind of got bound up first you're gonna throw it on this one right here one one reason why i mainly bought this car is i really like the patina on it and like i said earlier my little sister christian that's doing our camera work right now she was actually really interested in this car uh and this this is not a belarus it's a 210 version so she gave it the name tootin was was this old girl's name so i guess i should have put that in the description let's see if we can get tootin up and running again but it has an absolutely beautiful patina to it i feel like blue and this old rusty color and white all those colors and y'all guys know that we love patina around here so all those colors seem to go together pretty well she does have a lot of rust that y'all seen on the beginning of the video down in the rocker areas the floors are pretty rusty but this thing would make a really cool you know rat rod style vehicle we'll see what happens when if we can get her up and running or if she runs it would take a lot of money investing into it to restore it back to original might not be the car that someone's looking for to do that with but it'd definitely make a really cool patina style rat rod for sure so we'll just see what happens if it up and runs shifts in gear these tires ain't going to air up obviously my goal would be to see it run throw some wheels and tires on it real quick and drive it out of the shop tonight but we'll see what happens yes talk about pressure well somewhere i might have to do you want to give this a shot i can't feel my left fingers very good is it too cold in here for you i chopped the darn things off and now they just don't work very good anymore i'll hold that for you you might need to rotate that just a touch i'm not sure it's a nice looking wiring mate up there might even be the right gauge i don't know how tight you want it this snug would be fine i'm sure we'll be adjusting my tight's a lot different than somebody else's so you probably have to tighten it up again thank you you bet okay take the wire out to post here on the coil and then we'll swing her down to the distributor down here try to get this to tighten in harmony so did the brakes ever feel like they were doing anything or just teasing no it just they bounce right back off the floor but they're i don't know we'll have to maybe put a little bit more juice in there and see if they fight back eventually you know what we i guess we make a decision on them plugs might as well throw them new ones up in there if we and i'm the world's worst of remembering where i said something i guess not remembering i see that we got the good kind even told them the cheapest ones i had so but i didn't look at the receipt i'm just having a world of time getting this done something's supposed to be super simple but she was pretty goobered up where did you find this one which one was it i've had distributor that was about that was a buddy deal oh it doesn't sound like it you might have found it on the ground just saying you may have been more of an enemy than a buddy that's the advance okay well it doesn't give us a ton of adjustment but maybe enough so now we got to put an end on this guy well you got her stripped already that's right um yeah i've got it we can either will it reach down there to put another end or do i need to can we just clip it down there somehow i think it might reach okay not unsplash a little bit on there you see what we did don't you yeah we got him over here and made him do all the work well i'm fixing the hand that's over there's what you need one of those dew dabbies yeah you want to pop one on this this wire actually had two uh two coatings on it it'll probably work though i should get it all right so i don't know if he was using that no he was using the uh he got it the pliers all right let me see if i can get it with this i'm gonna disconnect that oh it's already loose yeah hopefully i backed it off enough you can just snip around there it always makes you wonder why people park cars like this so many of these four-door sedans just weren't cool back then and now they're just the thing to have you know especially the wagons they're really coming around again i should have it there okay so we can check for electro electricity you know where did your thank you yeah let's see oh we're just testing for continuity through the whole system here this must be a brand new one huh pretty neat yep and keys on no not yet or now not getting the juice down there um try the test the ballast resistor over there coming in and see what that which side of it either both whichever one yeah it shouldn't matter we're getting it earlier though right yeah let me try it down here it might just be a bad wire so this should be almost 13. you know and the same with this uh oh we probably need to crank it because it's got a ballast resistor we could also just jump it straight across from here straight to the coil for the time being as well if we needed to um because that's what that's designed to do is change the voltage when the starters mm-hmm well anything i wonder can you roll it over just a hair more because then i can use the cam and the distributor did you grab it by hand yeah and then yeah there you go so i don't know if you folks can see that at home but what we're looking for is when we break the circuit it jumps a little spark there and sometimes you can't even see it but you can hear it it's a little crack so that tells us we're on to something we're getting the juice that we well potentially need and we can let this sit right here and then we can put our rotor button on and start putting the lightning hoses and sparkle lighters in there and then see what happens we could also test a well i'm sure it'll get spark actually well never mind i'm not sure i'm going to throw some plugs yeah some tubes to send fire the right way these match up top's a little longer bottom bases are the same yeah yeah oh yeah they're really close still ain't sparking though you gotta have a little excitement yeah see what we did again switched out yes all right you're pretty sneaky i'm going to try to i'm going to try to figure out these i'll have to take you and you can do the wires which i don't know which way we'll be going with the way we've got that pointing towards the back probably this ain't going to do us no good of course yeah well let's take a look at the cap and then you can see where these straps click into it and then you can figure out so that one's kind of dirty for ben yeah refurb so the distributor rotates as i'm standing clockwise so we've got one right here should be right yeah yep something like that that definitely wasn't going to reach that is the shortest wire oh that must be the number three or four i guess one five one yeah i see so they probably had the rotor have worn facing the other way right that's why okay so one foul you got a marker by chance you want a black one or a silver one ah black would be pretty nifty i better write this firing order down before i forget it hopefully this fires up for y'all at home because it i mean this will just go to show you don't have to be afraid of these old cars and it doesn't take a tremendous amount of money just to see if you have a potential project on your hands this this doesn't cost a ton and yeah i've got 100 bucks in buying parts for this thing that we probably overbought for it we haven't used the cool that i bought we're going to use the points the cap the wires plugs i mean the cool thing about these old cars is you can buy this stuff fairly cheap and most of the time they have it in stock as well so a lot of this is unwanted really they want to sell it get it off the shelf so torque these to a couple hundred foot pounds okay sure easier to change plugs on this and the v8s yeah that's one thing about these there's plenty of room to do whatever you got to do taking you in all right all right so we got everything pointing backwards and what it would have been so there's a notch that this cap will only go on one way uh you want to turn that key off then just so i'm not going to turn it off yeah so that coil is just not sitting there all right so we said this was going to be [Music] make that work let me know how long we've been going now oh pressure's on while he's putting the wires on does anybody at home have any questions on the car or anything we didn't show yet i can try to answer for you it is a two-speed no radio in it it's not a not an ac car obviously and if you want to use this it's not working okay i guess you don't did it just go out or something i need to change okay yeah dan from dd speed shop makes a good point this grill bar up front here usually these are cracked they're fairly fragile and they get smashed up quite a bit it's actually a fairly sought after piece same with i call these jays i don't know what the real terminology is but these often disappear same with the hood bar up here this one's got a crack in it but it's not horribly bad but the chevrolet emblem still on it i mean for me where i'm from this definitely is not too far gone to call it a parts car but there are a lot of good parts still on it the stainless is in really good shape you don't have these pieces uh i'm not sure they might be in the trunk or in the back seat that's them are they yeah so that's the front fender ones that was just grow legs i don't know what the deal is probably car wrecks i'm guessing everybody bends up the front right six leaning over the fender working on it hanging their belt loop or belt buckle on it yep yeah this patina is so good on this car you could actually just leave it not even touch it or you could put that linseed oil on it get a little bit of shine on it it's got this rust cream a little bit of turquoise and the blue looks really sharp two four how are you coming two more wires trying to figure out which length how many mice i think they're gonna run when those fighters happen do you have curious of how bad it's gonna smoke i've got a uh well if that'll work we might need more than that okay i'll get you if you don't mind yes sir thank you very much i didn't know how much you wanted to drink these things don't really want to plug on that cat real well that should have it there except the cool wire looks so out of place okay oh yeah thank you well now that we got everything put together i don't know if you want to pull one plug and just make sure we've got spark to one or just i think give her a little drink and see what it does y'all got the key to jump it across is it over here the phillips head key it's over here that needle knows my work if you open them up and yeah dad and you'll have to uh turn that other key back over here that screwdriver may be a little long if you need a shorter one i can get you one okay fingers crossed we're going to try her out she's definitely trying ain't she oh yeah um that's great news got some smoke it's making fire maybe give her a little bit of advance over there we'll try it again here we go okay ready there ain't much adjustment on that is there no there really isn't how did that rotor look lined up uh let me check well i don't really know it was it was a little off so i would need to turn it back so honestly let me try that right back let's force it i might be able to hand choke it a little bit too i don't know that they're really getting this is so gummed up not really getting a good choke on it oh there we go i just need to learn how to run the throttle you want to try it again yeah we'll try [Music] it yes well no knocks oh that's something no mice no snakes did smoke come out the back or we got a plug muffler yeah a little bit's floating around i see a little bit over here that's great well that's a good sign i don't know if we still probably need to adjust that or if that's going to be more in our carb or what but that well it sounded a little bit timing to me i think we still need a little more advance on it yeah possible i wonder if we might need to well that's about it huh yeah well do you have any flammable brake cleaner or carb cleaning i've got some carb cleaner yeah that might be a little bit easier for me to try to keep it running yeah i'll try to fill the bowl not that the accelerator pump is going to work but just in case that'd be pretty neat that's long gone we got a fire extinguisher around here water hose or a bottle of water or something okay ready here we go not too bad no sound like a tractor well now what do you want to do fuel lines yeah yeah let's get some constant feel to it and see what it'll do we're going to have to come up with a got one over here that one yep nice do you want to do we want to try to just see if it'll take fuel in or i think it would be fun just to see okay because if we keep the budget down on this it'd just be neat to see if we can get it going for a little or nothing because we got to do the fuel system anyway right okay i'm gonna go grab her it doesn't have a tractor what do y'all want to run uh do you want to gravity feed it or run a fuel pump you can do two different um i don't know and gravity would obviously be a little quicker but i don't know how well it'll work set a tank off does your pump have leads on it already we could just set it here i could make it real quick it's still it wouldn't take me but a second i'll just do that so he did grab a carb kit for this but just out of curiosity i just want to see if this will run on this carb i think this is the oldest or the longest a car has been sitting that i've gotten running to be honest 50 60 years seems like i always land in the 30 30 to 40. the accelerator pump i'm sure is dry but if we can get the needle and floats working we still might be able to get this dialed probably not but it's fun trying we've got no vacuum advance this is broke but we're not going to need that for what we're doing today i could just pinch this off quick something like that even if we don't make a much more headway we do know that she does still have some life left in her wrench just crazy to know that somebody pulled it up somewhere and left it and yeah pulled the distributor out of it yeah it could be just bad transmission or could be yeah yeah i mean i've had cars i've bought where it was just a fuel pump or a water pump and it's just sat in all those ears and thirty dollar fix you got some hose down i got holes but i'm looking for hose clamps i thought there's some on the over here i thought i thought we bought a package of them but i don't know where they made off to uh yeah probably in that bag yeah i got them my script garage you gotta have vice grips you gotta have vast grips that's tool made hammer pry bar shouldn't need but just to put christian you might want this car after all here we're done it'll be a full overhaul i had this thing sitting backwards it's all there oh yeah that's right that's probably a pretty good spot for that fuel to be running right there by that battery yeah definitely i think so too that's another clamp uh yeah yeah that's that's that leak detector right there now if we'll just let those vice grips just go across there like earlier we ran it an hour and 19 minutes so not not terrible at least she's talking to us i'm surprised the valve train wasn't just banging away in there because this should be hydraulic lifters yeah and they pumped up quick so it's got good oil pressure yeah it doesn't sound bad most of the smoke i've seen look like it was coming up from up here just very little back there but he had put a little oil in the cylinders so where's that we had a little alligator clip i was just going to clip on that post we could but i got another helicopter up here daddy alligator was that daddy's shark there you go i'll just use this since it's bigger it's going to be here's something oh leak detector i heard it filmed before that sprung a leak oh you took that was my job wasn't it i never collected my job he took my carburetor tool well i'll grab a new one yeah float adjuster yeah got me second guessing myself now okay you ready yeah maybe we'll let it spill over first so we can kind of show what it'll look like i think it might be working yeah so normally if the neat needle or float stuck this gasket will start welling up where it comes a little bit right there or it'll start coming out of the van we got a light where did i put that line he's trying to burn this thing to the ground yeah you can get it cheaper that way have that fire sale smarter no no no chance that's going to work but we can try to see if it'll somewhat run off what we got going on make sure the key's on okay it's on okay something changed yeah that key was on the coil's not hot though make sure the lights are on let me make sure it is in the on position i had that the other day where i had to just a little bit more a little bit of finesse or jiggle on the key try it again it would act like it wasn't getting off no spark huh yep it might be a little flooded so oh wow 50 years that's crazy very cool send her back to minnesota is the exhaust pinched off oh it's coming out a little blow by yeah let them rings might come back so that's really cool it's smoky i'm gonna turn it off there you have it guys she does run and she even idles so i'm going to kick this fuel pump on that's wild i think there was almost a fancy beard trimmer in there when it backfired at one time yeah it got very close yeah so a lot of this blow by is probably just some rings being gummed up and stuck in there and best thing for this engine just to let her idle and run for a little while and see if they come back around and later down the road do a compression test but yeah it's missing the missing the generator on it so it definitely ain't turning over the water pump and who knows about this radiator yeah hoses should we see if the trans works we can yeah jack it up and see if it'll actually even move the back wheels or what it does well i hope so i got to get home somehow it's got as you can run it and it's got the holes in the floor so you can lease pedal your way i'm trying to find this i prom i promised uh i promised the guy would grease this jack up before we used it and i i forgot until just now so sorry about this audio we're gonna need some atf i got some in that box behind you there we learned our lesson on that got the old bronco up and running on the last video and didn't have no transmission fluid see what it did don't put that through my trunk floor now yeah these things are heavy though you can tell this one thing about it though is i noticed when i was editing that intro is the brakes ain't locked up on it so but they probably i bet when he moved it he probably tore all that apart or something oh they took the shoes off and boy blew out a bunch of stuff didn't it oh it did every time we closed the doors we or lose a little bit more of a car throw some jack stein jack stands up underneath here to keep it g-rated yeah the floor the trunks real pretty where's your liquid putter inner funnel tubie thingy uh just a second let me hand you that now oh i think i found it yellow yellow yep yellow with a lot of grease on the inside of it nice thing about power glides is they are not picky you put about anything in them and they'll handle it they got kind of a bad reputation they get called power slides but they're in some of the fastest drag cars in the world so they must be pretty stout if you build them right i don't know that i can reach in here and get that i'm gonna let one of you do that i don't want to spill on your floor all right i'll pour that in there hopefully that tire don't sling off it is down in there ain't it ah that'll air up it's only flat on the bottom are you able to reach in there i'm still getting it all over the ground but i don't know who's gonna lay up underneath there besides me so yeah when you go up underneath there to change the oil right up in it i'm great at making messes i'm not good at cleaning them up i normally just use a bag of my shirt that's what i start saying then let my wife wash it know about how many it needed uh it was bone dry so i think we put two in and then let it sit in park and let the pump do its job and then we can the way i'm spilling it i'll probably have to put in four so take it easy that's five dollars a quart oh yeah you know the back glass is good in this car the side doors the peekaboo windows got some main one this this one's wow this one's got the bubbling in it i guess which one oh okay you know that yeah just about to finish off this second one and didn't spill any of it just needed practice on that first one i can't believe this carburetor is working or the engine's running this is wild i'm telling you man it's a good car i feel like the price is going up that's what i was just thinking sound like the price is kind of starting to creep up a little bit there well see if it fires up again yeah well lost the dash slot that's great i bet your blinker don't work now all right should be should be here a little fewer pump going i guess starters starting to go on us i got it in neutral yeah there goes like a steam engine yeah i could use more well i don't know how much time you got i got a different set of wheels if we wanted to try to creep her outside you know what the best thing would be to watch this thing leave the yeah i think we go ahead and do that i'm surprised the trans is shifting with it's not even showing on the stick so it's a healthy transmission yeah where'd your where's our wd-40 oh here it is if them other wheels will fit up in here i got a little bit of everything on lug nuts over here where's the other wheels at uh so i got some over here i actually come off that 52 gmc truck as long as the offset will go inside that and these are good too man these are one of them's got a big old knot in it oh right here it's got a big old split but yeah they're outside okay i'll grab them right these are the best wheels for this car it's gonna look cool oh my gosh uh glad you're over there quarter panel's a little rough i can't even get this one out of here come out the back baby [Applause] alright i'm gonna have to jack it up and let the axle drop down to get this wheel out of here oh yeah too tight of a fit so thank all y'all for hanging out with us we're trying to uh make this move along as quick as possible about an hour and a half in it and we got her up and running and uh even shifting in the gears so we're gonna try to switch out the wheels on it if they'll fit and drive her outside the shop you need the other ones from outside hi i need the other ones from outside i think he went to grab them he's pretty good if he found them in the dark delivery these look brand new well i guess these can go on that side go ahead and shoot some air save that one for a spare i'm gonna put this the one that looks more rough on the back back here that way when you're going 55 down the highway all right it don't blow out make the steering rough so he said i'm hoping that the offset will allow him to go up here then they've got these weird take those weird lug nuts oh they're you any lugged things yeah i've got some over there they're actually in a box close to that wall right there [Applause] it says weird lug nuts must be it looks like we got enough for two each maybe i didn't think i had that many come on never get it to get in the middle there we go i think it's gonna work it'll self-clearance you drop it down do its thing well what do we need to do up here to get this ready for a drive maybe try to get rid of these probably so i don't know if that's coming off you got a self tapper we can buzz into this that's what it needs i don't know i thought i seen one earlier batter i think we can use that well that's too big probably i've got about a 10 foot long shelf tapper that'll work we can zip that into here somewhere right here let's see what else they do look cool on here one of my favorite wheels the old slots i hate this style huh once the once i get one on there it makes a pattern it's not ripped not able to no i mean see how it dropped it oh yeah sometimes if you kind of roll them around kind of throw it back i guess not quite up against huh that's weird no these are i mean this pattern would be five quarters well if you get one across from that one that should yeah that's what i'm going to try to do is just get there's no blood so it must be okay just ain't working real well huh yeah i don't know the pattern looks oh wait you said that came off an s10 yeah frame yeah they made five of them i don't know or is it 4.5 4.5 should be like a ranger and stuff that's 10 is four and three quarters but they ain't wanting to now now now my brain's just trying to figure out what else do i have that i can steal the wheels off of oh i just don't think those are going to work go look at it or see if trying to think what else i can do hmm yeah i guess that would be a wise thing to do check them they're four and three-quarter but center to center i wish the studs were long enough just to go ahead and two and three quarter put something on them they don't quite line up once you put that just off just a hair what is this shiny stuff that blew out you see that it's like fool's ghouls huh looks like the inside of a cassette tape right it's not going down it's not gonna go i'll look outside and see if i've got anything real quick and just a little tight on the outer edge sure enough sure enough take the rear end out from underneath something and go the easy route you know i just think the the shafts of these i started to say that may be it too the bullets are too long or thick too thick yep well it might just need two do you mind grabbing me that yes impact electric magic machine you know that yeah you got two of them on the bottom on the same side yeah yeah might be enough just to barely roll out yeah oh i switched socket sizes was there another socket yeah thank you there one smaller ish there's something right here i don't know if that might be here oh this there we go okay i had two or three different flavors over there sorry about the noise everyone and i can just do a little tack weld at the other side of it that's aluminum you probably have to use jv weld there we go nice car you know honestly this one doesn't look it's a little bit different style i can get three of them on this one i feel like okay another one thanks for bearing with us guys i don't know how many people we still got watching with us so ran into a little issue with the wheels here but i think i think we'll be able to limper nascar oh that's got the back the front one's on the dolly and just go with it yeah we're not going that far yeah these are these are unit lugs these are straight four and three quarter so you must have put one of the actual unilugs there oh yeah a little more room on it try to move this back end over so i can go straight out should be good yep let me grab this jack stand real quick before you lord down okay oh yeah that other one's still up underneath there it fell sideways over here was gonna get caught up i'm gonna open the door so she can start getting excited did you get it dad you got it going down well they stayed on [Music] so y'all get everything figured out on the gas and stuff we've got a head and where the with the hood will shut well you might be able to try to go ahead and move that camera dad which one maybe that one you could show that one you know and then maybe get a little bit more uh yeah so you could probably move well honestly i guess i could just watch it from there huh yeah that's fine you won't be able to see once i get outside anyways this one's got valves down here but it might be good enough i guess we don't need to forget to disconnect our cameras what is that like a 13-ton jack it's a big one this actually doesn't even have that big of a a weight lifting capacity on it does that it's just big coming at you throws me off when it's got five of them on there [Music] there we go a couple lug nuts now she's rubbing but it'll do that'll help me stop this side's dented out just perfectly to fit it's got that little oh yeah a little flare in it i suppose we got to disconnect some of this stuff huh yeah you want these cameras disconnected from us uh yeah we're gonna have to well guys we're about to try to move her outside under our own power for the first time no breaks but we do have a transmission that's shifted gear and all that good stuff about to have some good tires or better tires sorry for all our headphone users my goodness as i say watch your elbows and huh get something to smack away baby come loose wow so he's kicking it on instead off yeah this one looks like it would hold three lug nuts too those are the perfect wheel yeah probably not though now your wife be so proud to see you drive up in this yeah i was trying to keep it a secret but i guess the cat's out of the bag that one they all turn even yeah i got jack standing there oh wait a sec let me turn the wheel before you drop it well actually this one's somewhat straight [Music] as long as i don't hit that volkswagen tractor deal probably is my car out of the way here yeah okay i'm going to throw a light up out there why isn't our lot working no motion out there huh turned off working now okay well so i guess we'll get her idling and happy and i'll try to bring the hood down a little does this go pretty easy or i think so just oh yeah okay and then you've got the wheel captain yeah you probably try to yeah aim that way as best i can do the headlights work did you pull it really no i gotta grab the key here well you only got one in it anyway no no the headlight headlight switch ain't even there i didn't know this one the brake line is not working though really yeah i tried to unscrew the bulb or twist the bulb out but it would not come out let me make sure i did put it back up uh yes yeah the only bad thing is you got to go through drive and then get to reverse so i might throw something in front of the front of the tire here just to give me a little extra time i thought we had a block and i [Music] want to put my foot there all right i got it in neutral that way i can just hit does the throttle in there actually turn the linkage because you're really good oh yeah i didn't think about that i have to pedal her to get her no it's hanging isn't it we have enough time to fix that or maybe i'll just walk you out and clean under the uh well that moves yeah it's open here's springing anyways good enough that's to the floor oh i see what it is the problem right here oh that'll do it yeah working yep okay does it return it on you yeah yeah i don't even think there's a spring hooked up i don't know how that's happening it looks like it's coming back yeah i don't know what that's doing i'm just hanging off that i guess all right let's see what happens all right turn it keo oops all right we're ready yep i can't see nothing beside my flashlight i'll have kind of an idea where i'm going get the window down i can jump out if i got to y'all got the fuel pump on what fuel pump's on yeah key maybe jiggle it just in case all right okay try it again yeah we lost something here voltage that didn't move do you mind trying to tighten that bolt just a little bit more okay if you can reach it i'll try to hand choke it and then if that doesn't work maybe this holder okay hold it wide open you ready yep [Music] should be that coal or that wire true hot rodding you're ready to go and suppose let them move over here okay yep keys are yep okay um turn it off yeah yeah turn it off okay on do you have more of these alligator clips um do you have any more alligators yeah i think i grabbed some okay so i think what we're going to try is just jump 12 volts straight from the battery right over to the ignition coil and then we can forego a lot of this stuff coil could have failed ballast resistor could have conked out on us we're just trying to get this to go quick so this is the cheapest fastest way to which might be able to get both these right off of that that was one's a positive and once a negative so don't get mixed up this smaller one here may work better on that one you got a good point oh fuel pumps well that's because it's turnt water off the key see so only about 5 volts 12 volts so let's give her a try now [Music] i'm not going to spray it i think there's probably plenty in there you ready yep there we go back into where okay here we go [Music] all right let's pull a plug quick see if we're getting spark boy who put those in oh no we're hot that one's been firing once it cranks i won't be able to kill it it'll run fine i won't be able to kill it out there and i'll just run out right out into the highway um what you need something to hold her fingers so you want to turn it over you got the key on uh you all got it wired and directed oh yeah it's take the fuel off and then alligator clip on this one okay it's like a surgery price went down more that alligator clip it's getting to be a good point in time to uh blame it on me not adjusting them points right i didn't want to say it you said it i'm going in there trying to crank it i can't do nothing contact i think it's flooded man so we just gotta hold her to the mat and see what happens took the cameras off of her she don't want to run i opened the door and she got scared of the dark okay choke is off we'll go no fuel i thought it would weep out of the base there if she was i can't even figure out this pull up oh okay i got you well you know try to give it a shot yeah how come our fuel pump ain't running oh we don't have the fuel pump or you want to run it without feeling oh yeah we're going to try it with that i can't can you give me a light yes sir these two is that what you're getting for i gotta try to quickly okay that's good that's working out the cake yeah fuel okay [Music] ready here we go [Music] come on come on trying to go forward you get her an r yeah it was nr but it felt like it was going forward it was it was yeah it was coming forward all right let's try her again it still won't crank with key right now i bet that's that wire all right what i did with that i think i might put it back that's all right ready yep i'll leave this open for a sec if you start going i'll shut it it's like it's going forward ain't it yeah oh wait we got i hear something draining freeze plug just blew i actually have water in it yeah it's puking all sorts of stuff looks like trans looks like trans yeah why would that be on the block oh wow you want to stop yeah we'll show them what's going on here it's not going okay uh is that what i'm gonna reach yeah should be able to make it work i got it that's etf i wish i could use that other one because i can't see what they're seeing you want to pull the dipstick and see if it filled the crank well that is bizarre maybe that's the reason it's parked so yeah we were trying to move it outside and a freeze plug blew out and it looks like transmission fluid is coming out the price is coming down i can see it definitely has viscosity there's no question about that well that is different and why would that be happening i don't think i've encountered that one so i guess if you've got any ideas you can put it in the comments if you've seen this before yeah and i feel like that's pretty much going to wrap up our video she was so close and got scared and puked her guts out scared of the dark i guess it does run kinda [Laughter] let's see probably one of these mechanics that didn't know the difference between uh atf and antifreeze well guys we kind of went over our two hour mark we were shooting for anyways uh but man we did get it up and running so we got it up and running and going in gear i don't guess she ever actually she tried to move a little bit but anyway something was haywire on the linkage i feel like i don't think it was actually going all the way down in reverse because whenever i was trying it you could feel it kind of trying to lunge forward just a little bit but we gave her all she got we don't know what's what's happening here the freeze plug is blown out a little bit and transmission fluid looking substance is coming out i don't know maybe you guys know something and can definitely leave it in the comments a suggestion of what we need to do here because there's obviously some kind of issue that went wrong but with that being said once again we want to thank derek for coming down and uh helping us do this uh i don't know if there's much help he did most all of it no it's a lot of fun true
