on this episode we're going to rescue a 1966 Chevelle the problem is its 600 miles from me and I've never seen it the bots are on the old interwebs seemed like a good deal it also doesn't have an engine not to worry though I'm gonna make one really click off of this good stuff on the garage floor here I'm never going to put in the back of an old square body big block suburban and drive at 600 miles they're put set motor into the Chevelle hope that it runs and then drive at 600 miles home and I've got three days to do it because I got to get back to work I don't really know what could go wrong here well I'm loaded up and fueled so I'm gonna hit the road in the big block here and see if we can't get this motor over to North Dakota [Music] well we made her in late last night yeah and the old suburban round really good the only complaint I guess is the 348 million gallons of steel but that comes with these big blocks it's Memorial weekend beautiful weather out makes to all those guys and gals that served appreciate the heck Audie and I'm proud of you just moving some stuff around here in the yard quick and then let's go find this Chevelle and take a walk around see what we got and then we got to start thrashing we've only got a day here to get this motor put this girl see if we can get some fire smoke from her let's go find it here she is she valve 304 door 1966 bought this from a nice guy online seemed to be really honest and it's a actually is a pretty straight car I'm not sure if the hose comes with it or not but see if we can work that in has the rear cooling option what makes this car so worth it is the headliner is actually really nice so I can kind of forego all the other stuff but here's the kind of issue at hand cuz we're missing some stuff here but what I really like is the Baka digital kind of everywhere else we just got a layer for the old starter and some stuff for the battery that's about it and we'll go find the motor here in a second I unloaded it last night I'd show you what we got there here's the weapon of choice primarily built out the night before last a couple nights before that I guess just parts laying around the garage it's a factory rotating assembly it was a 383 I put a 350 crank back in it since we're gonna have a 10-inch clutch little 10 bolt rear and a little three-speed I don't want a grenade that lose leg so we basically have a 355 now it's dirty over does have Molly rings the heads have been rebuilt the factory junk heads one ninety four one five valves did put some common springs in it six hundred Lick Springs and it's got a custom grind cam from comp it's a five by forty five lift somewhere around there old why end intake that I cleaned up with a wire brush and whether to use parts junk and stuff the only thing new really that we're gonna be putting in this is the clutch it hopes that we get a good 15 20 burnouts out of it I really don't think the panitch is going away so that's really it we're gonna start a loading parts and pieces and tools and all of that get the car rolled out in the driveway up with jack stands and I think the plan is to pull the transmission out and mate the two on the shop floor and then try to stab her back in well we got the transmission out and then we realize that we have zero hardware for anything related to the transmission including the constellation flywheel pivot ball which the guy at Malcolm here in this one and you've never even heard of we are now headed to [Music] a guy's house and we're gonna take one out of the pickup that's out of this house and hope he doesn't go to us and then cannonball back to the house and serve putting the thing by the way this is my brother for us right here [Music] see what we need is the clutch pivot ball more than anything all right the new Duralast Jack Hawk 6000 OAM stock clutch that's going to blow up in five seconds is on we're putting the starter on now cuz we're lazy and on the layout of the car and then we'll ball field three speed up to it put it in we also robbed this fan off of that truck that we found and all this kind of auto magically went together pretty good so we're getting pretty close this is our setup over here guy went ahead and just brought her all the way off the ground so her belly's don't hang on the frame so much [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] the old cherry picker wouldn't reach quite far enough so you know we doesn't cut any corners and did the right thing here and we're just gonna go ahead and drill our own hole there's the factory line made her on the Chris made sure that she really wasn't gonna go anywhere and take two we're gonna try it again she snagged in but oh we got a we're gonna zip that off so they can with the thing to do that stuff over here but she's sitting in pretty nice we got like 11 D billion room back here so that's good go ahead Beth feel that thing be sure not to wear safety glasses [Applause] she's a little hot basically took the motor all the way out to get the headers in and luckily one of the three sets that we had fit so chance is finishing those up and your honor in the garage it's like 643 degrees and I got the old back waterfall going on I'm gonna put the distributor end and get the carburetor on we're still engaged in this carbon tie when your fuel line's from back all the way forward so I'm gonna do the right thing and just run rubber hose all the way to the front so I'll give you an update here in a little bit all right I'll get the best light off [Music] all right we're gonna go through a final checklist of sorts which it basically doesn't have a key in gasoline yeah we got it outside so it lights on fire we decided we're gonna push it into my brother's house he doesn't like three bottles that's kind of a plan there I think she's pretty much ready to go there you can see it behind me not too much duct taped and there are a lot of zip ties and vice grips in it also let's see what happens plan is typical break and I haven't even fired this motor yet so we're going to try to run her for 20 minutes or so to see if we can keep it cool we'll drive it after that hopefully and that will change Ione you know just beat on it a little bit right [Applause] [Music] hey it runs hold it up to their garage here it's overheating and we heated it up about 17 times so that's pretty good got about two or three melted spark plug wires and really surprising is the Quadrajet carburetor is junk that's on it imagine that so we've got another one back here in the garage we're gonna try if not I'll just bolt on a Edelbrock can be done with them so all right now we're gonna eat and have some adult beverages and we're gonna get after it again but days not even close to over and we did it we got her in in one day and it did move on its own power so transmission works clutch works so all is good my friends all right so it's the next day basically doing a shakedown today and then we're gonna be on the road see it keeps getting hot it's got that little little radiator in there for the inline six so it's really struggling to keep this v8 cool we thought about trying to throw it another radiator from the truck we've got around here but it's wide and I'm a DFB and there's no other Creators IV compliant so we're going to try to pump it out with this one I also burned off every single wire basically within a foot of the headers so we're having to rewire that started right now accidentally started didn't have my camera with team that was fairly interesting I'm gonna drop the great game of oil out of it change oil and then we're going to go give it some more bro well since we can't put in a different radiator the plan was to take this three blades down and put in this damn thing from the truck notice the weep hole on the water pumpkin has been steadily getting worse and leaking and making leaking which is a brand new pump but we're gonna take the pump do the right thing again and we're gonna take the pump off of the motor that's been sitting outside for two years outside pretty sure it ran cool so we're gonna pull that one off take the new pump off put that one in and then put the weird truck style fan in it then I think finally fingers crossed we can go feed on it a little bit yeah watch your hair you'll be oil spring that is really hot no metal its his bedside don't see any rings coming out [Music] all right we're trying to fill it with water one more time got the new water pump in and the different fan configuration hopefully pull some more air through it I did put a thermostat back in and I put a 1/16 I'm going to cut it slow the water down through the radiator and then we're going to go have some fun and see if we can keep it under 300 so hang tight behind the belly area credit that looks pretty good well I think we're gonna test on it a little bit [Music] because okay [Music] turns out the inline six radiator just doesn't like to be ate we just can't keep her cool when you step on the old trottle we're gonna pack it up for tonight try to save on her a little bit and maybe tomorrow and I just get the wind blowing through the teeth all day long and she'll stay down where it needs to be but I'm pretty happy with it big thanks to my brother my cousin or nephew or whatever the hell you are dance for all the help get her going yep we'll start the drift here pretty soon back home six letter photo [Music] alright I'm all fueled up got the oil topped off think I'm ready to go plan is to just get as far as I can before the motor overheats locks up then I do however have a flat head screwdriver and a vise grip so I got all the tools a guy would ever need to do any roadside repairs I don't carry spare tires because that takes all the fun and the risk out of it [Music] well we made her about fifty miles and she's running pretty hot and so am I so I'm gonna get an adult beverage since we're so far into the trip [Music] I just washed my hair with some done this so the kitchen sink this morning and swirling around my head which is really important we've got you probably can't see it but the face parts of seafoam those nests than just be flowing around and tear repeatedly a soul that back at this morning I'm in a hit next up the scene she likes factory now but that kind of benefit let's eat falling in here the original owner I came today with his car I can't remember it off my head of a psycho Sara or something like but I have to give it a last name so it's gonna be a Sura hantavirus Julia hantavirus 66 and it just smells like a tent full of deaths what that way well it's raining are [Music] so just another trick that I've learned over the years if you happen to have a motor that runs a little hot yes I noticed mine runs a whole lot cooler if you just stop looking at the temp gauge you kind of just hang your arm about the window and go yeah good enough [Music] [Music] hey I'm actually alive just pulling back into Minnesota 600 miles she made it my eyes I don't know well actually you probably can see it there shot just so much exhaust fumes just you know the whole way and all I can smell is my skirts and my ears are just ringing from the headers but all in all good the motor drank about three hundred forty eight point six gallons of water from all the rain but it definitely kept her cool which is a plus but I'm really happy for throwing together a yardsale small-block hoping it out there 600 miles back rerun didn't blow I thought for sure the transmission would a grenade but she held up even the electronics I had the digital headlights run him and pretty pleased overall now I got to figure out what to do with this maybe a turbo or six-speed or something got to push her back in the old tree row and hang on to her for a little bit and see if we could do something else good that's it at the virus 66 we made her home thanks for watching hit you next time
