[Music] [Applause] hi guys have you ever wanted to create a map intro to a piece that you're doing to give it a location to zoom into the action well if you did this is the tutorial for you [Music] hi guys so what we're going to build today is a map transition that goes from a map into a scene and then pushes into a bit of action this can be used for the top of a piece or as a little interstitial between two scenes to show movement throughout the program you might use the map to jump to a new location in your film or you might want to just get your subject from a to b and like quickly jump through some areas or you could use these individually and just use the zoom transition to have a cool transition between any shots so there's three elements to this tutorial the map the zoom and then we're gonna put some extra things on the top a letterbox and some color correction so we're going to start by downloading a map and we do this in google earth pro you can download it it's free search for your area find the the map that you want make sure that the maps are looking straight down so you get the right perspective so i've picked a map somewhere in south america as you can see and randomly just pick this spot okay so we click up here to download the map you can select any of these options so you can select a decent 4k sized file so you download the best resolution that you can and then you just click save image once you have your map downloaded import it into final cut we're going to start by putting the map on the timeline and zooming in shift z to zoom in to fill the timeline we're going to build the shots that we need on the timeline so we're going to put the map down first then i've got this piece of drone footage click on it in the browser and you can click e which in final cut terminology is append to primary storyline i just remember it as e for end um it's a really good way of remembering it and then we can do shift z again to pull back out so that's probably far too long but we'll worry about that in a minute and then i've got this shot of a girl on a motorbike again stick that on the timeline so we've now got three shots on the timeline the map this drone which i'm going to shorten i'm just going to click and drag to bring that down we now have our three clips on the timeline so the first thing we're going to do is we're going to click on the map and we're gonna get rid of this google um text so we're gonna go transform and we're just gonna increase that size slightly to get rid of it and hit done that's that then the next thing we're going to do on here we're going to add some clouds to that so we're going to come up to our generators and we're going to click backgrounds and we're going to drag clouds onto there we're then going to hit our blade tool and blade it and delete that section there we want the clouds to be keyed over the map so we're going to add a key so we come to our effects here keying add a keyer and then that deletes the blue and we've got the clouds now we can refine our clouds up here and we can make the clouds a bit a bit more hazy so have a play with it get a feel for what you like then i tend to come over to the effect palette and transform it so if we zoom it in a bit to make the clouds bigger and click transform we can move around and find a bit that we like then if you click on the clouds again do shift i to go to your in point on your transform inspector over here click a keyframe on the position and just move the clouds across then go shift o for your out point and move them again and then you've got your a little bit of movement on those clouds then what we're going to do we're going to add a handheld effect to these two shots so we're going to type in the effects palette hand and click all on the video and you get the handheld if we drag that to the clouds and if we also drag that to the map you get this cool effect with the maps and the clouds and that because they're moving independently it it adds that sort of parallax kind of layer effect to it and again you can change the parameters of the handheld if you want if you want it less shaky or more distance okay once you've done that we're going to click both of those clips right click new compound clip and that's going to flatten those two down okay so we've now got our our clouds that move like that and we're going into our drone shot so this is where the transitions come in we are going to click off the clip put our playhead on the edit point we're going to hit minus 5 enter which is going to take us back 5 frames we're going to hit command b to make an edit then we want a 5 frame clip on the other side so if we just hit plus ten frames enter that's going to take us five frames into the next clip so we can hit command b again to blade we've now got two five frame clips as you can see what we're going to do now is we're going to push into these so on the first clip of the map we're going to click on it we're going to hit shift i to go to the beginning of that clip we're then going to come up to our inspector and we're going to click a keyframe on scale all we're then going to hit shift o to go to the out point of that five frame clip and we're gonna slide the scale in to whatever looks great for your shot on this shot i'd probably go about about there okay so we've now got a push in on that shot we're then going to do a pull out on this shot so we're going to click on the second one again we're going to hit shift i to go to the beginning and we're going to add a keyframe we're then going to zoom in on the scale all maybe to about there and then we're going to do shift o to go to the out and then we're going to put that figure using the keypad back to 100 enter okay so we've now got a push in and a pull out we're then going to add on the from the effect palette a zoom blur so if we go to video all and we type zoom we get our zoom blur if you drag that onto the two five frame clips we've now got this okay then what i want to do i want to add a really fast dissolve so i'm going to click on that cut point there i'm going to do command t and it says there's not enough media that's fine just click create transition then right click on it change duration and click to enter we've then got a two frame dissolve over the top of that it just softens it a bit i think it looks more pleasing to the eye so when i hit play we've got that that looks good okay i'm going to just shrink the timeline down i'm now going to quickly do the same on this transition i'll run through it again really quickly minus five enter command b to cut plus ten to go forward five frames into the next clip and command b again so there's our two five frames again click on the first one shift i to go to the in point and then we're gonna zoom in so we're gonna scale and we're going to add a keyframe we're then gonna go to the shift o to the out point of that and we're going to zoom in we're then going to click on the next clip and do the same shift i scale keyframe and zoom in and then shift o for the out keyframe and put that back to 100 okay so we've got our zoom in zoom out and we're going to do exactly the same we're going to add our zoom effect to both of those clips click on the cut point command t to add a transition right click on it change duration two for two frames enter so we've now got our second transition which is there okay so let's have a look at the timeline we've now got three clips with the two transitions the same over the top with our clouds on there now what we could do we could add a bit of a speed ramp on this section here so we're going to hit r for our range selector tool and we're going to drag over the middle section of that clip and then going to come up to our speed mapping up here the retiming and i'm going to hit fast eight times it's going to shrink that down so we've now got this that's really good and what i'd like to do now is maybe add our grade so we're going to add an adjustment layer so we're going to come up to titles and generators at the top and adjustment i've done another video on adjustment layers in final cut pro check out the link if you don't know how to do it this will tell you how to install them there's a free download on there as well so you can you find it really useful once you've done that you can add your adjustment layer to the top so i'm just going to drag that on and i'm going to extend that out to there so with our adjustment layer i can affect all of the clips below it so just to give this a little bit of a look we could use a lut or we could just use our color grade so we're going to step into our color wheels at the top here i'm going to change that to color wheels i'm just going to have a little play you can give it any look you want so we could like increase the saturation the brightness and give it a a sort of a a desert kind of look by putting some more yellows in there maybe reducing the blues have a play do whatever suits your shots once you're happy with the grade we can add a letterbox we're going to come over to our effects and we're just going to type letter and there's our letterbox if we click and drag that to our adjustment layer again and then come over to our inspector at the top we can affect our letterbox here and we can make that a little bit wider like that so let's have a look at our creation brilliant what i'd probably do with that now is add some whoosh of sound effects maybe on the on these joins here again have a play around see what works for you they're always too loud when you import them the sound effects are available in the final cut library up in the top here sound effects are really good and you can search for loads of different stuff alternatively i really like using envato elements it's great for stock footage template sound effects music that kind of thing and there's a link in the description below we could also put a sound effect on our speed ramp here that we've used she always accentuates that and then let's put some music on okay so i've got this track here that i've downloaded and we can just drag that [Music] underneath [Music] awesome right there oh i just remembered there was one other thing i did on my promo at the beginning and that was add some film grain with the letterbox the and this cinematic kind of grade film grain adds a real good sort of depth and grit to the footage we can click on our effect palette again and we can just type grain and we get our film grain and we can drag that again onto our adjustment layer and then you can affect the amount personally i think the the imovie grain just knocked back a little bit maybe to about 70 percent looks really good so there you have it a really quick way of making a fun intro montage starting with a map with some clouds zooming into a location then zooming into some action and no plugins at all all done natively in final cut pro so you can follow along without having to worry about downloading anything i hope you found this tutorial useful if you have remember to give it a like i really really appreciate it and subscribe to the channel because there is so much more stuff coming soon see you later [Music] you
