hi and welcome back to air clips and uh to our trip uh from frankfurt via mumbai and now hong kong to novosibirsk and we're just about to start our next flight and about to board our bus to the airport of hong kong to take off to novosibirsk we have been staying here for about 20 hours we are here in front of the hotel you so you see it's a very nice view from the hotel uh we enjoyed our stay in hong kong and i hope you will enjoy the flights from hong kong to no physical with us yeah so welcome and have fun yeah enjoy the flight so you have a flight plan the flight plan is here yes um so now we'll see bisque uh looks like we're going to be a little bit late yeah we have a long flight time long flight time yeah um it was uh six hours 13 30 minutes and we have 84 tons of load so that's a good thing but you're a little bit heavy today and take off weight is around about 261 tons and landing weight uh 210 yeah so that's good that's a good thing yeah and the plane is the charlie echolie echo and then it uh yeah it's planned to lend a nickname uh charlie error [Laughter] i've never heard that okay you didn't know no i don't know okay the hotel is not a hotel either so yeah we expect one way to five in uh noble's abuse here yeah over here also for departure also also for departure in hong kong it's a little bit windy in novosibirsk yeah i'm gonna check that nova's abused uh we expect the landing what did i say at 12 46 so 12 [Music] third time becoming 250 with 16 knots uh gusting 30 knots so went from uh like headwind yeah horizontally so that's a strong headwind and um well that's okay yeah and they have uh early in the morning they have light rain showers um but otherwise it's okay our alternate today is uh kemerovo never been there before me neither i haven't heard of it before no let's see where it is it's close to the airport so it's right here um yeah it's not too far away but we have to uh look for the weather over there because if we need another alternate we have to uh feel a little bit more oh yeah so cameron has also at 12 o'clock well there's no forecast there but it's strong winds as well uh light rain showers and the next alternate and the next alternate is abba khan and how much do we need for that how much fuel two and a half tons and we have remaining few in the novosibirsk of atrons but those two and a half tons i would like to take me too at least so then no times just uh checking hong kong very quickly hong kong 2 30 with 12 so headwind as well a few clouds 30 degrees you can tell one zero one one q h okay looks good looks good so no terms just gonna check if there's anything new in hong kong but we checked yesterday so shouldn't be anything new it looks looks like nothing has changed nova zbisk yeah we have to see if the ils is working otherwise we have to do the ndb approach yeah the for runway two five until one o'clock so half an hour after we're supposed to land it ends that the is unserviceable due to maintenance and the glide path tube yeah yeah so you have to we have to see we have to see what we do exactly otherwise it will be ndb and then another visibility is okay so that's not the problem okay uh and sierra papa ndb is unserviceable but that's only till 10 so that should be working again and then for the alternate que me rojo no nothing special and abba khan the urs and serviceable the entire year okay yeah but they have eyeless yeah and then cosmetics and we know yeah we don't take is enough and the aircraft is early from bangalore and then stays one hour in novosibias and then continues to frankfurt yeah it's just the fueling just enough so weather challenge looking good exactly the jet stream could be a little bit bumpy shortly before nobody that's it so let's have a look at a few figures okay we need a minimum of sixty one thousand five hundred the seven hundred taxi sixty two two hundred sixty two two hundred sixty two two hundred two point five sixty four seven sixty 65 65 i think 65 block yeah that's good for you yeah good for you yeah absolutely so i ordered a few [Music] it's a half an hour extra yeah that's good yeah okay okay and let's go have fun [Music] [Music] um [Music] [Music] hey [Music] so [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] hello we're going to do the outside check here in hong kong we will have a look if the plane is okay and after that we can go so please follow me first we check if she can do the hydraulic test so the plane has to be free and i will give her a sign if it's good so these are the three tubes they have to be free because they are really important for all the indications in the boxes earth communication and altitude vertical speed and they are free here we will have a look and the gear pin is gone because if it's in it we cannot reject the gear to check the lights and we check the tires they are okay looking good here we are looking for a hydraulic if there is no hydraulic somewhere because then we must have a leak somewhere engine number three looks good no bird strike it's okay this is the main gear we are checking the brakes here and here and we are checking the tires and for hydraulic also i'm also checking if one is missing because if one one is missing we we cannot go checking the brakes the tires this is a fuel gun so if you have to dump the fuel during the flight because you have to go back over because of a technical failure that will come out here so we are checking if there's no use navigation lights actually it's two here we have a nice look of the whole play we can see if the stabilizer is okay this is the center gear we also have to look for the brakes if they are okay it's enough the tires again but there are no holes in it hydraulic of course again and it's okay [Music] this antenna is the first one he touches the ground with a tail strike so i always feel a bit smooth if it's smooth there was no skills like now this is the apu now you cannot check very much and it's really loud that's why i'm having this but it's looking good and here the same thing as on the other side feel them again navigation lights are on and here you can see we have two looks good this is the outflow now for the pressure inside to regulate um yeah now it's open because we have the same pressure inside as outside and those two are the static ports also for the indications in the play altitude yeah so it's okay the second engine we cannot check ourselves it will be checked by the technicians in frankfurt and we get the indication in the plane if it's uh if something is wrong with it so we'll take it late so let's go for a flight ready to copy yep ready to copy so few weights 199.3 199.3 that was calculated as well takeoff 263.6 yes refuel 50 tons 972 yes i have the same then as a few hcg 20.00 was 19.3 and 22.9 23.0 takeoff sounds good so got a test of 49 at flaps 18 yes calm 35 degrees speeds 161 that's correct 172 is correct and 178 one more we climb to 76 yes set second load sheet thank you okay thank you nice fling coming in oh yeah [Laughter] beautiful thank you very much i call delivery uh i need to call them five minutes prior start or you can call them yep delivery hello lufthansa cargo eight four six five heavy center eight four six five heavy good afternoon delivery lufthansa cargo eight four six five uh heavy destination 2 is and pdc218 we're ready to start in five minutes eight four six five right back director report fully ready are you fully ready lufthansa chicago eight four six five yeah ready for briefing yeah ready for briefing uh we expect the b coil to bravo departure of runway two five left one two three eight is the departure frequency and two five for the runway track the notes one two three and four due to due to terrain left turn must not be commenced before prawn two in case pvn performance ceases to comply with rnp one requirements after departure pilots must notify atc three only specific categories of flights caoi are accepted exempted from rnp1 these flights shall fly the contingency procedure and uh for contingency procedure only if uh energy not available at prawn left turn and so on yeah we don't have that yeah so we don't need to fly the contingency procedure so the routing for two five left is prawn uh 205 knots or above then direct rumsey with a left turn 230 knots toner simon and bakel so i'll check for the fms i fly that enough and prof mode according fms and the altitudes the prawn max 5000 just our first altitude vehicle minimum flight level 157 initially climb 5000 yep transition altitude is 900 000 feet and the msa here just for a short while then it's water it's uh 4-3 and uh in case of an engine failure or anything um and we need to return to the field um we stay on the departure route because it's the same eosit yeah at prawn um left directly so they know what we're doing we know what we're doing that's perfect and we stay with five thousand feet over water and we're over water so it's really smooth um we do have a flex temperature so i would with this weight probably push the button and request you to push the prof mode to cancel the flex okay yeah you will you will i will push the button and come ask you what else do you want to go with an engine failure five thousand yeah so okay no change so yeah okay we don't have to change anything we're safe for the approach right away in 4-3 so everything's good we're over max landing weight so normally we have to dump dump yeah probably takes a while otherwise we can do overweight landing here yeah and we can do it with the flaps 35 yeah that's right we can do that too so if it's uh if you're on a hobby we have 176 meters of stop margin i plan to board to take off uh till 140 knots for all the mass warnings here in the front and the mandatory items we have a dry runway and no mail items that's good yeah then we're ready ready copy checklist cockpit gibbons removed pitostatic checked kevin sends then whole chart cut two select hydraulic page please select hydraulic pages so cycle system yep recycling hydraulics all back to normal gotta love the md11 no we are not the only ones nope it's interesting early afternoon and it's so crowded here it's always crowded that's true it's one two three four five six ahead of us huh then the slots the slot made sense yeah it made sense otherwise we would have stood here forever did you know that the dash eight of cargo looks has an espresso maker for the cargo crew in the front they do espresso machine very nice italian espresso machine i have a friend who flies for that and uh she once told me that that was the best thing about the dash eight the espresso machine thank you very much eight one one eight decimal sml4 bye-bye that was funny how i learned often chicago eight four six five heavy cartoon holding position two five left from the cargo a four six five seven good afternoon taxi 8465 taxi kilo 7 holding 0.25 left kilo 7 yep there's only one rolling point no just tequila seven so just following the small one good that we have a little bit of extra fuel yeah that's good 1.4 already yeah instead of 700 we already used a taxi fuel i think the most i ever used was new york or chicago i don't remember i think we taxi like not taxiing taxing but we held positions so long that it took us one and a half tons one and a half tons we stood there forever like an hour 20. i've been in bogota and then they sent us for departure to the runway uh most far away and we were there and then i changed the runway we had to go back to where we came from okay and then there was uh on the taxiway was uh a plane pushing back so we had to wait for 15 minutes it was really terrible so terrible oh those runway changes oh he's going right side clip okay short recap we fly straight ahead to prawn not above 5000 and then start with a left turn directly everything is clear just water no specials eight four six five line up and wait one by two five left yes left in chicago eight four six five one two five left line up and wait that's fine right side clear no one behind us i'm out of flight please out of flight armed the cargo a4 six flight speeds plus 1 thousand 2500 cargo a465 8100 eight four six five climbing flight over eight thousand one hundred meters level change yeah level change eight thousand one hundred is uh twenty 26 600 autopilot on so we are on a flight to nova zabirsk flying uh from hong kong and first i'm going to do a fuel check if everything is uh normal if we don't use more fuel than than planned so i can do a check at moritz and while she does the fuel check i can uh tell you a little bit about a routing we took off from hong kong runway 2-5 and then made a left turn to the chinese sea and then again a left turn towards guangzhou and we passed guangzhou and thereafter we went towards chengdu and roughly 20 minutes ago we passed the city of lanzhou all very big cities in china very few people have heard of but they all have a couple of million people living there and in about uh 10 minutes we enter the mongolian airspace and the desert of gobi with the altai um mountains and it will take us quite some time to fly through mongolia that's siberia and then then we're already there yeah that's it that's it exactly so i checked it we have a gain of five minutes in time and fuel we still have 400 gain good so everything is going fine yeah the first shortcut was so good yeah in hong kong we had a few short shortcuts with this time we were a little bit heavier than the last time if you have seen it in bangalore we have mumbai mumbai sorry we have a load of uh 84 200 kilograms um with the fuel we had a takeoff weight of uh 264 000 kilograms the landing weight will be i don't know if we told you already will be about 210 000 kilograms the speed is mach 0.82 and at this time we are flying at an altitude of 30 000 feet fly level it's a chinese flight level it's in meters 9 200 meters so it's 30 100 feet to be exact unfortunately we are a little bit late today because because of the wind we have a longer flight time than planned and we started a little bit laser because of the loading and because of atc because it was very busy in hong kong yeah until now we have already used around about 32 tons of fuel and still have 32 tons remaining in the tanks and a fuel flow per engine as uh as i see it now roughly 3 000 kilograms per engine which is quite a lot it's a little bit more than normal because we are heavier we're heavier yeah we're not very high usually we can go up to flight level four one zero and uh as in you just said we're here at uh flight level 300 closely yeah so that's ten thousand eleven thousand feet right there that we lack exhaust gas temperature we have uh here it's 650 degrees so it's quite hot at the rear of the engines and the power setting it's measured by the uh n1 that's the rotation speed of the turbine of the turbine of the turbine in the in the engine uh it's in a cruising flight it's about ninety percent yeah we're flying north um pretty much a heading of three five six but we're um navigating via the gps so we don't need that experience but it's just nice i'm going to call um now i have to call them before we enter um to get a permission so of atc of adc i have adc okay okay we can enter we have to call them moritz that's good yeah we maintain the uh meter flight level uh until we pass mongolia so um it will be back to uh flight level in russia siberia so yeah and china or chinese airspace uh i would say always lets us fly a couple of miles right off track so today we fly i think three miles right off track yeah this time yes we have been flying two miles right of track also 50 miles right of track but that was because of the weather yeah so that was our decision so we can continue next country next country and mongolia now new country new chances [Laughter] so also a fun fact um china has uh just one time zone they make them not change it because there are so few people living in the western part and uh mongolia which is much more narrow than china is has three time zones so imagine the time difference or the sunset and sunrise in west and east china at the same time it's amazing i find that very interesting in mongolia where i think nobody lives but in ulaanbaatar that's what i think i don't know i don't know how many people live in uh mongolia i don't know either but ulambato is i think one million one so yeah it's not very many so maybe in the rest of the country another five hundred thousand no i don't know i have no idea but it's uh definitely a lot less than china not too much you can see outside yeah it's empty there's enough kobe nothing here but i heard it's beautiful i have a friend who came here very often and visited mongolia and he said it's amazing it's such a beautiful country just nobody there just doesn't like people he does not like people that's true hi amy perfect here perfect he can be all by himself yeah china is not the right country for him i think no no especially not the big city lives in hong kong so um really yeah maybe hong kong is very big and even hong kong has quiet places yeah oh i like hong kong yeah like i already said 10 times i like hong kong we have a win now 300 degrees and 60 knots it's almost from the front so that's why we have a longer a longer flight time today and a ground speed of only 430 with the true speed of 486 so it's really slowing us down yeah yeah we have a lot of time to eat sometimes you have a ground speed of 600 it's better that's better yeah for us so that was nice yesterday yeah we had a very uh yesterday we were in hong kong after we checked in in the hotel we went to a very nice restaurant her id and i had a live band which was playing jazz music with a little bit of fast food yeah kind of fast food and and the drink and the live band it was really great yeah it was so nice so we stayed the whole evening yep stayed there until they actually wanted to close and we were the last ones we were the last ones because he liked it so much we liked it so much and now in nova zbis wait the cab driver do you remember the cab driver who took us home oh yeah he looked like he was 40 something maybe 45 67. he was 67 years old looked so young we both couldn't believe it [Laughter] he was totally excited that we were in his cab just telling him all the time how young he looked [Laughter] so i think we have a new friend but it's really not normal in china that you have this contact with the capture not at all normally they don't never try and buy a lot of taxis there yeah and normally you have no contact yeah and he was so nice and he was opening and telling and yeah that was that was so nice yeah yeah and now we're going to know for the best and of course we have our plans for the dinner tonight it will be a little bit late but we hope we can get some food yeah i think food is till 11 or something 11 i hope so because it will be 10 o'clock in the evening over there local time yeah um i think tonight we are going to wrestle not too far away we can we can walk the distance i think it's five minutes five minute walk okay and it's a russian restaurant um well you know they have very good restaurants yeah and very good food it's really nice and not not too modern and um yeah last time is really full okay so let's see might be hard to get a seat uh last time not they have downstairs and upstairs oh okay so it's big enough yeah okay yeah yeah it's really you can do a lot of nova novosibirsk it's actually a fun city uh has a lot of students there very young city and uh there's something open 24 7. like you always find something where you can go out for dinner or a bar or a i don't know a party it's lots to do and we stay at a hotel which is right across the uh opera um an opera that is even bigger the theater the theater yeah theater uh bigger than the bolshoi theater so quite big and i've been there and uh india has been there too the famous russian ballet yeah it's really really nice to see yeah she watched romeo and juliet [Laughter] and i watched the nutcracker so anytime you get there you just have to take what is there and for me it was last time the nutcracker they just opened it and it was amazing like just to sit there and you even had front row seats which is really amazing i said a little bit more to the back i was too late to get good seats and um the show was just amazing so if you are in nova zbisk we would uh uh we would say go to the to the uh theater yeah it's really happening yeah absolutely and then go in summer i mean the time minus 30 minus 40 degrees not so good but now it's really warm at 15 degrees the snow is nice yeah and it looks really beautiful if you come in and um like the snow yeah in winter time ah always when we approach the runway it just looks so beautiful just really mystic and [Applause] [Applause] so [Applause] so so you told me something about the systems here oh yeah maybe over a penny yeah can uh take you to the overhead panel uh let's are here that's our um panel for the apu for our auxiliary power unit we need that on ground to provide power to the aircraft if we don't have a ground power unit we turn it on and this panel is actually for a quick turn off so if anything happens we pull here and turn the switch and then the bottle will be discharged and the apu will be like if there's a fire the fire will be put out and then right next to it is the gpws switch which is uh the grand proximity warning system and in the beginning i test that if it works and just put the test button and then it runs an internal test and tells me actually just tells me if it's if it failed uh otherwise it just runs through and then it just stops at the end and then we continue here um there's a flat limit and elevator feel um that system is just for um for well let's say an abnormal situation we otherwise don't ever touch it it's just if we if the automatic system fails then we need to put it from auto to a different position it's just end of normal procedures that we use otherwise you don't uh use it cabin pressure it's the same i just check in the beginning that the outflow valve is open um so there's a little door in the back of the plane and it opens and it lets uh the air out um so the cabin pressure can be regulated via the store and we only use that in case of an abnormal as well that's an anti-ice we use that quite often we just turn it on every time we fly through anti-ice and our total air temperature is below 6 degrees centigrade and loud yeah and in the clouds if there's moisture in the clouds yeah exactly and then uh below that windshield heat um that's mostly if it's very moist and uh the so-called spread so the temperature between the um the spread between the temperature and the dew point is uh very little then we put the windshield on so to defuck the uh the window shields after a little bit of testing you test the all the lights and the displays and you do that in the beginning and then it just again runs a uh test and next this cargo door test which in the beginning when we start one engine it always starts automatically if it doesn't start automatically we have an extra button to push here and then we can start the door test manually and find out if the door is uh still open fuel use reset just resetting as it says and the engine max point are reset it's all for um resetting systems it's on ground just use some ground yeah exactly and then we have windshields uh windshield wipers uh my is nice and weak we do have windshields and wipers to clean them [Laughter] heavy rain we really really need them so yeah that's about it uh on the right side um and then we have in the middle we have our systems um the hydraulic electric uh air system and fuel system and the md-11 has everything in automatic and the option to put it in manual so if anything does not work properly like in the beginning when we had two bulbs open and one valve open the first thing you do is you put it to manual and you switch the controller so we have two controllers in there in each system so if you uh switch the controller most of the time the um exactly so yeah you have the hydraulic system as i said it's uh pretty much always an automatic and um you only put it into menu if you um if there's an abnormal actually if there's a system not working properly so you um sometimes you have to fly it in a manual when there's a problem which they cannot solve immediately and then you have to do it yourself yeah so what is what has been done automatically now you have to switch it all yourself so the pumps and rmps all the exactly yeah so yeah and then it's automatically yeah that's that's a little bit easier it is a lot easier yeah we have a long list what we have to do in uh what kind of flight uh time if uh any of the system is you can check it here yeah it's on our quick checklist here you can see our system manual fuel system manual hydraulic system manual just one system maybe a manual when you are starting your flight that's the maximum then here you can see the flight phases and here are the actions for the separate systems if you're flying in manual so you have to see a lot of buttons to push a lot more work for us so it's really great that the mb11 is designed in a way that it works in automatic mode so next the electronic panel that's that one same as the hydraulic pen we hardly ever touch it the only two buttons we touch regularly is the external power and is on the electric and underneath is the apu we turn it on there and that's about all we need in a normal flight this one is also interesting oh that's very interesting you want to explain it um i can explain it's uh when you have smoke in uh in the plane you can turn the switch and you turn off the electrical system and the air system and you see the different combinations and then maybe you can see where the smoke is coming from and leave that system off yeah so it's just uh to remove smoke to look for a place where it's coming from and then to remove it smoke is one of the worst things you want to have in an airplane same as fire you want to land as soon as possible and just not take any what's it called if you you do not take any chance to make it worse like really get down to the ground as soon as possible next one here we set up our temperature yes we can have it warm here i always put in the display there i don't know if you can see it it's a little bit hidden behind the thrust levers but on the right hand side on the display it now says air and we can set all the temperature in the cabin in the galley uh here in the cockpit uh in the cargo compartments and those are those three knobs says cockpit korean cargo and we can heat it up really well like a sauna or cool it down to freezing point yeah that's about all the things that we do there oh yeah and there's apu air um so we uh set the um we put the air into the apu so it can um start the engines we start the engines with the apu and then you could cool down and ground and we get a cooldown obama winter time in november and guys hold on this is our ice machine as we call it so that we don't get any um eyes on the engines or these ones or for the wing and the tail because then you can you can lose your lift and it's really dangerous yeah that's not good so very very important yep that's true so that's about the air it's also an automatic and the next panel is fuel you can actually see the amount of fuel in here in the tanks and you can see it there too so it should be the same it should be say 7000 there it says 7000 here and 6650 so that's correct good to know so in case anything happens with our uh page over there we still have the display on the top yeah most important is that one just wanted to say when we started in hong kong we were really really heavy and if something would have happened and we needed to return to the um to the airport then we need to down fuel and we were heavy and the max landing weight for the md-11 is 286 tons and take off yeah yeah let's take off and make max landing is 220 about 20 tons and then we have our um light panel our seatbelt panel um our emergency light panel it's probably hard to see now because of the sun i can hardly see it but i know where the buttons are you find the side yeah on the left side you actually have lights to light up the cockpit here you also have lights um too for specific spots inside on the upper panel and our displays there's the emergency light uh you turn it off you arm it and uh with this button you test it and then uh no smoking and seat belt signs and yeah that's uh still there what i've read about the no smoking and also the ashtrays in case somebody smokes that they have a chance to uh put the cigarette out in an ashtray even though there's non-smoking since 20 years and it's not allowed forever they still put it there because they they're afraid that it that the plane catches higher yeah that's the light for our stanfire compass um very easy if everything falls out we can still navigate via the compass it's a little bit lame in the in the curvings so um that's the way they flew in uh yeah exactly so i turn off the light again put it back um those are the landing lights the nose light and the wing and runway turn off lights we uh turn them on um depending on the country in germany it's flight level 100 we turned on enough and in other countries depending on different um local regulations you leave them on or turn it off navigation light logo light beacon light high intensity light so all the lights that you need from the outside to be seen and to see that is a call reset for a car that comes from the um yeah either the maintenance or the um the career seats so they have an issue back there or down there they call us it blinks blue and you can reset the call here and since that's so far away you can just continue i'll tell you about this oh this one is very important most of you almost forgot i almost forgot oh now what's this for so what's this for oh those are um for the three engines they cut off our generators and uh the fuel um in case there's a fire and they also if you not only turn them like put them down hydraulic also atonic also yeah uh you pull it pull it down and then you twist it and either side gives us one bottle of discharger for a fire extinguisher that discharges the bottle into the engine so one two three the two is the one in the back and the tail and uh the two is also for uh uh it also has the bottles for the apu so if you use two bottles for the engine left for the apu and you need to be careful there because you always hit your head they're not very in not in a very good position and then the left side on this side you have the cargo fire uh panel so you can you can test it here manually it will be done uh with the iiu's where you you put them on uh that's uh that's here the inertial reference system right yeah then you uh you get the test if you don't get the test you can do it here here you can see when it's burning somewhere you can exactly see which which compartment that it is so um you can see here the compartments and here it's it's blinking and you push that and you get the discharge also on the right place then as i said the irs the initial reference system you have to put them on that's for the for the navigation of flights so we have three systems one and two and an auxiliary uh you put them on before flight and uh in flight you you do not normally you do not use them this is the cockpit uh voice recorder now if something happens they can hear what with our last words [Laughter] that's why that's very important for the investigators it's very important for the investigation when an accident has happened it's really important what has been said then this is uh only for ground it's a generator bus fault reset for the generators it's just maintenance who's using that ntr is all off i thought you wanted to leave it until there [Laughter] i really yeah okay don't know so here we have the cargo temperature that's the lower temperature uh these three knobs were for the upper and this is for the lower so we have just two and we have three compartments the middle apartment compartment is um just uh cut off by a curtain from the back so this one is actually for the back compartment and the middle and this is for the forward here we can choose which temperature here you can all only choose high or low so four or twenty one i believe it is and this is the elt um that's also for an emergency that they can get the signal where we can be found yeah locator transmitter engine ignition and fedex modes engine ignition is um yeah you put it on before engines start and that one is running all the time the override you put on for the end and the eyes and for the automatic but you know you use them only in abnormals too most of the things you just use in abnormals yeah and also i have a windshield wiper [Laughter] and a windshield and a windshield yes and this is the field um emergency stop normally you can put in the amount of fuel you want to uh have remained and then it should uh cut off automatically if not then you can push it here during the fuel dump wow so that's the overlap panel yeah here's just some um things like a loudspeaker and reading light i have air conditioning on the windows an escape rope you just open it like this and then in case you need to open the window if the door is blocked we can open the window all the way to the back take a rope and best the oven gloves because it's really hurting your hands and the last two meters you have to jump the last two meters you have to jump because we're really high it's too short it is definitely too short yeah my uh and if it's still tipping if the plane is tilted when they are really high oh yeah and it's really high so you help for the door to be open and uh or when it's burning or when it's burning yeah then you leave via the cockpit windows both can be opened left and right side um i have uh the no seal steering here and that means that you can only taxi the plane on the left side yeah so some planes have it on both sides the m11 has it on the left hand side um it can turn the nose wheel 75 degrees to the left or to the right you can also steer the nose wheel with the pedals here below i think you cannot see it with our feet when you do it like this it's breaking and if you uh put them like this it's steering the nose wheel but it's just 10 degrees so it's for only light curves and then yeah the yolk of course and then over to the glare shield those are the important checklists for takeoff approach and landing those are the shortened yeah that you can just read very quickly without having to pull anything out so yeah how about the glare shield do you want to explain that this is yeah this is um actually this is most of the autopilot you all the things you can put in an autopilot and still with autopilot you can change it here normally the autopilot is flying the routing from the fms we put it in before the flight and he knows every waypoint and he flies it here you can do also the vertical speed that's this one so if you want to climb or descend you can put in how how fast you want to descend or to climb this is for the altitude you can change yourself um with this knob you put on the autopilot one or two if you have now it's out of pilot two because claudia is flying a plane and she's uh cm2 so that's uh yeah which is crew member too and if you put it again um it will change to uh one so we have what two systems this one we push when we are in the approach and um yeah for the final approach if you are catching the heading for the for the runway you can just before it you can push it and you will do it automatically this is for the heading if you put enough navigation then it will fly what you have put in your flight management system if you pull this knob it will go into the heading mode and you can change the heading sometimes they tell us to change a heading on the way for traffic or sometimes you do it yourself for clouds you want to go around the clouds uh here you have the speed now we are flying a ma number if you are uh below flight level i thought it was two seven zero zero to six then it will be uh a speed so it's an indicated airspeed uh what you have on your glare shield then this is for the navigation of the the navigational information on your glare shields um of the routing yeah you can have uh another range for your for your map like this um just put it into 320 miles or you can do it very near your if you are in uh in the approach you have it on this one if you are in cruise flight you have a bigger bigger there's a vr like old-school navigation and then we have t-cass if there's some other flight and it uh says that we have traffic then we put it on tcas and see the traffic really clearly because everything else is not shown and then we have also for the approach mode the vor again and this one is to change weather radar you get the weather on your glasses or if you push it again then it will be oh now it's weather and now it's terrain so if you are flying in an approach where there are mountains or obstacles one of us has a terrain and then you can see everything which is good it's green you are above and it's amber it can be above or below and it's right it's uh the ops plus below your altitudes but now we are in flight we also we always have the weather radar the radio altimeter or the borough timothy that's for them and a minimum yeah we have a minimum where we have to see the runway um if you don't see the runway over there we have to do the missed approach or the go around and you can set the minimum with this knob and this is for the qnh which is the pressure you can have the standard pressure that's uh increasing flight you have a standard pressure and every airport has a different pressure you can change it with this yeah and those three lights also warning lights one is uh the right one is uh quite new it's uh if or not yeah if you're on ground or not it's uh it has a little sensor um uh if the main gear is extended or um like not extended or compressed or not compressed so then the little sensor shows that on the glare shield so we know it was uh designed after uh bouncing of the aircraft so that we know if an aircraft bounces so it means jumps back after landing um that we know we're in the air again you cannot always notice sometimes it goes up in the air and you don't don't notice it because it's so smooth that you just don't know and then it shows hey you up in the air again and then you need to go around you need to immediately put the thrust forward and just abort the landing yeah [Music] [Music] yes [Music] yeah then we have the this place we have six displays over here as you can see the outer four are the same for uh the co-pilot and for the first officer and the captain that would be me so we have our own system here and those are for for supposing it's the systems and we can change all the systems over uh over here so this is uh information about the engine this is about a hydraulic system electrical air system fuel this uh configuration you can see if you have flaps or you can see if a tire has no or less pressure you can see the brake temperature this is a miscellaneous list if you have an abnormal it can be here in the list this is the status of the whole plane so as you can see we have no failures today very nice uh consequences it's for abnormal procedure and then if one system is a fail is as failed you can see what what consequences it has for your flight that's it yeah then you continue with this one most important thrust on the left hand side very left uh there's the parking brake this one this one the black and white is uh the trim uh the manual trim we have an electric trim here but that doesn't water stabilizer in the back yeah exactly uh it's just yeah to put to take the pressure of uh of the steering yeah of the yoke and uh we can do that manually too it's just actually just like sometimes call it a a uh brett knife because you kind of um pull it through and it's uh like movable and um to the rear and the the front and in this way you can trim the aircraft right next to it um is uh spoilers um for if you want to um slow down which you did yesterday you probably saw it speed break and fly so-called sleep right yeah on ground it's uh it's also also a break yeah yeah and yeah ground spoilers air spoilers so i think it's just to uh destroy the lift that's probably the best explanation and then we have the throttles they're very very nice designed you can put four fingers in here even though there's only three engines much better and nicer to handle it and on the sides there's a little knot on either side and if you push that you go into the manual thrust mode right now the um it's outer thrust out of thrust does it um we don't have to we just watch it uh the speed but we don't have to take care of it but if i want to fly manually i push those buttons and um turn off the outer thrust and on the back there's the thrust reversers um that you pull on ground and then the engine there's the doors in the in the engines that open up and move the air from going to the back the door opens and the air will be moved to the front so it gives us uh like thrust towards the it's a brake front it's just another brake system but then with uh with the engines for the engines those are the flaps we have a very nice um flat takeoff selector i don't know how many aircrafts have that um i don't know probably md-80 or something but um but it's very very very um nice to have because you can actually set the take-off flap setting um from 10 to 25 and that's the limit of the flab takeoff selector and in this way you can adjust the the flaps in a way that you can climb faster because of more lift or if you don't need it then um you just put it as a you can optimize you optimize the takeoff landing distance yeah or take off distance you let the air start uh rotor and with the knob if they have a velocity which is enough you can put fuel on and then the engine is going to start so it takes about one minute to start one engine so this is for engine one two and three two as claudia said is the one on the tail so i hand you over the controls and i will continue with the rest of the plane to explain the kitchen yeah the galley the galley our own kitchen with everything an oven and a coffee maker you have have control thank you have fun need to be careful as i said not to hit your head so right there you see a lot more circuit breakers and a chair for uh the observer um which is sometimes a czech captain who sits there and it's actually the best seat that we have in the cockpit because you see everything you sit right in the middle you have a perfect view and you can see pretty much everything so there's some maintenance panels here for the fuel and some storage room here and that's our door where we can leave the cockpit and uh if it's uh not opening if the lock is uh somehow uh not working then we have a panel here that we can just um open up and we can leave the door via those uh via this opening it's a high extinguisher there and another elt there and uh right there is pretty much everything we have in the front too is a panel and an oxygen mask and there's a fire fire extinguisher down there a life west there and my chair so we go out now and that's our galley um there's the curtain the curtain leads towards the cargo compartment and you had a look in there i think it was filmed earlier with all the pallets and it's huge it's very very long and you can open it right here with the curtain and then there's the door um which can be opened with this uh over here open it here some lights there's a kind of a safety band to put on if the doors open and then there's a slide in here which is also a raft and if you open the door and the door is armed as it is now um the slide comes out as you know but they're usually aircraft and uh you can slide down so then there's uh our career seats we very often have uh passengers um to uh like kind of accompany things that we have on board um just two weeks ago i was in los angeles and we had a um a very very expensive painting i think it was uh 21 million dollars worth so we had to have a uh an attendant that um flew with us from los angeles home because it was brought from one museum to another and she was sitting here it's actually quite comfortable you can turn this into a bed you can move this out with this handle here slide it all the way back and then you have a full bed which you can sleep on and uh yeah and also for horse attendants if we have horses um there's uh also we need uh people to accompany them in case anything happens or they're just uh i don't know too nervous and need a shot or like a vaccine so yeah that's about what the seeds are for and of course those two seeds have oxygen masks as well they have life west they have flashlights in case uh you know anything like the generators fall off goes off and there's no light anymore and they can call us with this uh microphone here and we can hear it in the cockpit and we can talk to them communicate with them and of course then the lights that's the emergency handle to open the door in case it doesn't open here or we need to exit very fast in case of an emergency you use that handle and open the door right here we have more equipment oxygen masks and a smoke hood in case of a smoke in the cabin we take out the smokehouse pull it over and then we're safe from um any smoke that might hurt our breathing and then we have a little uh cupboard for our um our jackets and this thing if you wonder is a um uh nice thing to have it's actually it adds to the um to the chairs and then if you put it in the back um you can make i turn that into a bed so it makes it even longer i think it's a two meter long i don't know um but you just add it to towards the back and then it's a it's a bed oh this door here is the most important door because it opens our freighter door in the back um there uh when we uh land somewhere um this has been lifted and then the door can be opened we have a toilet there um of course for the crew and the rain jacket of course outside and another fire extinguisher there another door there and then here's our galley um we have a lot of storage space as you can see and a coffee machine there's an oven just even one pizza here and then just a waste and another storage room right there and even with a little tablet where you can just put things on and that's pretty much it around here as far as i can see nothing else to see here nope that's it that's the cockpit door and that was our little walk around the plane and i hope you enjoyed it [Music] hello [Music] so we can tell them a little bit about the tank stops that we have at cargo because not at every destination that we fly to there's a offloading or loading of cargo for example in novosibirs there's only a stop for fueling so we fly there and because of duty times we cannot continue our flight to frankfurt so we need to leave the aircraft and the crew that has probably arrived yesterday they take over only an hour later um it's also not possible to take all the freight we have now and um i have enough fuel for the whole flight so we do need a a tank stop when we have uh a longer flight and we have a lot of loads so that's that's actually the first reason for the for the tank stop yeah because otherwise they can make an enlarged uh crew yeah and you can you can fly 15 hours yeah like normally if we have uh for example horses to be brought from buenos aires to frankfurt it's possible to fly from buenos aires um to frankfurt without a stop with the md-11 um if you only have a couple of horses on board because the load that then is so uh minimal that um we can fuel up uh the plane with hundred tons of fuel 110 even 120 tons maximum and if you don't have too much load you can you can do the long-haul flight in one yeah but since we always want to have a lot of load um up to 90 tons which is the maximum of load we can take um we can only take lesser fuel and that's why we need to stop on the way like in that car we do that sometimes we also offload and unload but very rarely in uh dakar novozibir we stop for fuel so we have a couple of destinations where we stop on the way to fly somewhere just for fueling yeah and uh you can tell uh that we only do that if it's only a one hour turnaround because there's no time for uh offloading in one hour offloading and loading no no this usually takes two hours if they're fast and some doesn't depends how much it is exactly how much they have to unload how much they have to load um i thought if they have to unload uh a full plane and load it again it takes two and a half hours to three hours okay at least at least in frankfurt if they're good some countries it takes longer yeah really that's a lot i have the 80s uit and ifrt university information victim one two three three expect ios approach number two five transition level fixed will boost the causes in the heat of earthworm and in final 0.274 degrees maximum one four meters per second visibility one zero kilometers light rain showers scattered humorous one eight four zero meters temperature one tree viewpoint two tse seven four one millimeters smaller eight eight hectopascals unh one world war one hectopascals no six acknowledge information victor the residual yes i have it okay so they have birds in the vicinity the ios25 is in use in the decision level six zero uh wind two seven zero gusts uh nine are gusting one four meters per second okay so that's 18 gusting 28 but it's uh slightly um from the right more than 10 kilometers visibility large rain showers scattered criminal nimbus uh 1800 meters so let me see six thousand feet yeah yeah uh temperature one two two point two qfe-988 i already put it in the standby 988 plus uh 13 makes one zero zero one yeah makes sense so now you can put away the if you want you can uh give me the briefing oh yeah i do that um as we spoke about it earlier we expect to have 12 tons um at novosibirsk and only need eight um well if you need ten yeah the weather is not as another bad not that bad so it's uh sufficient for to go around an extra round exactly so a short briefing we're um in uh nova's in the area of north visibility already sorry we're in the area of novosibirsk already yeah and uh have a uh the highest grit uh is three zero so no hassle from here and uh transition level was six zero i think yes okay six zero and then we expect runway uh 2-5 and that is the echo bravo 2-5 delta arrival yes so coming from the south east that's pretty much uh like a straight in yeah um msa then later on uh same as the grid 3-0 so that's pretty easy and then uh the specialty in uh novozubiskis they uh let us descent very late so we have to make sure to slow down and um configure the plane early and i will fly by hand anyhow so the autopilot is not it doesn't have to turn too too narrow so yeah the star just goes the arrival route just goes uh pretty much straight in then with the left turn towards the ils two five uh which is india kilo delta tango with a dme so it's up and working again even though it's before one o'clock i am so lucky final track is 252 i am so [Laughter] lucky and uh the um the scent starts out of 5.1 nautical miles uh distance from india kilotango so very late we are only uh 1600 feet above ground so we need to be configured fully when we uh when we get on the descent out of 2010 feet yeah final altitude check is at the beacon at kilo tango 110 right perfect and then we have uh set it here too a minimum of 570 we both have it in our displays conway is long 3600 around about 3597 exact meters long and 60 meters wide poppy's on the left hand side and in case of a missed approach we go straight ahead and then at minimum 1020 well let's say a thousand feet left turn 72 degrees then climb to 2660 it's not possible to set it into the uh altimeter here so we put 2700 in there yeah and we have to that accordingly because they are counting in meters again when we come below the transition level exactly so it's two thousand seven hundred uh feet which equals seven hundred meter qfe yeah the last um accent uh from the runway would be delta but uh for that amount of weight uh we're not going to make it so we have to down the runway and there's a turning pad at the end we turn around and then we taxi back on the runway on the runway um and then the parking position is uh probably charlie which is packing position five yeah at the beginning sometimes there's another plane in charlie than we are in the uh then we're here alpha yeah so we have a very heavy plane today 212 tons as expected for landing we did a lot of uh runway length um 2900 actual 3100 required for flaps 35. uh you already set the go around altitudes and minimum braking will be enough uh i expect the runway to be slightly wet uh there where rain showers and our rain showers yeah a lot of rain yeah and uh the power setting will be around about flat 35 68 depending on the wind yeah so i'll see how much i need that round about 68 plus plus minus 10 we can just see six a plus minus plus minus how much you need exactly um we need the apu i have to call in unrevocated and i do it again as a mumbai i uh set the reverses uh i open them fully and then close them right away um for idle rewards just you have to have it you can you can uh close them at hundreds or i close them at 100 laters yep exactly just slowly it's probably anyhow how it works yeah so let's get something let's do that no no okay a minimum i set the minimum 570 oh you said it oh i missed it we both have it in our display yep um yep 570. no that's it nothing more to say yeah the intermediate approach are just below the sector altitude oh yeah that's good nice to know that's nice to know fun facts and you tell me when you wanna descent we have five minutes left to nilan uh yeah i would i would recommend a little bit earlier just call him now and uh then he probably has to coordinate and then we have a frequency change again or whatever so yeah you want now yeah okay now i looked on chicago eight four six five requested eight four six five two four zero i lived in chicago eight four six five descending fly level two four sierra kevin signs on because i had below already we don't need the windshield it's uh 13 over two it's twelve to two i put on the wing and runway turn off lights and uh maintain the speed you take the plane on our back yeah i have the plane on my back i would do some manual flying as soon as the sun is a little bit above the clouds so i can see better if that's okay with you no we don't have that much anymore oh yeah as much as i love the sun but it's so uncomfortable to have it in your face while you're landing it's like yeah i know from yesterday [Laughter] [Music] oh yeah i remember [Laughter] always on my side yeah sunny side we've done the cargo eight four six five go ahead eight four six five reduce your speed to minimum please you are number three to land on chicago eight four six five reducing speed minimum key number three oh yeah a lot of traffic here yeah mini cleaners 213. and the ice and yes all on [Laughter] looks good i thought he knew sign language we practice it in mumbai yeah when i'm talking i thought they gave us a book booklet manual flight sure autopilot sure eight four six five eight four six five uh speeding up speed two eight zero knots put it in twitter two thousand almost i will request further yeah lufthansa cargo eight four six five uh request fairly descent four six flags defend to flight level nine zero you think it is two six zero two six lieutenant cargo eight four six five descending nine fly level nine and zero and speed two six zero knots you can fly through this one it's all green i don't see anything oh no it's getting yellow i'll ask him for a red heading yeah i looked in the cargo eight four six five request setting three one zero to interceptor eyeless four six five two four zero knots descending flat over knots request radar heading 3-1-0 for the intercept due to weather is 4 6 5 heading three one zero of ten chicago eight four six five and speed was 240. speed was 240. 1500 is checked vertical speed one thousand of those cargo eight four six five maintaining it's now heading at three to zero to avoid the weather and it for [Applause] thousand thousand i looked on the cargo 8465 usb 240 knots now another change he's 50 miles ahead of us slow down a little bit huh sorry i slowed down a little bit for him um let's extend i i was asking yeah lufthansa eight four six five uh maybe reduce further eight four six five decent level eight zero resetting speed two to zero knots it's let's extend zero knots let's extend and can you give me the final uh runway track with a fms intercept yeah and intercept four six five level seven zero guy a two six five seven five seven seven which point is it and speed to the zeros minus yeah glideslope is there ready and eyelash is identified flaps 15 flap15 i lift on the cargo 8465 reducing speed 190 knots so i'll give you another mess speed yep that's good we have to do it go around because of the traffic in front of us we have a very high approach speed today so absolutely there's the rain we need a left heading huh uh i looked on the cargo eight four six five requests adding 280 to intercept the localizer eight four six five left heading three zero zero it's not enough i looked on the cargo eight four six five turning left heading three zero zero he will give us a ready factor back to the localized i think so too he has the same yeah [Music] we are having three services on chicago eight four six five okay uh you want me to make i looked on the cargo eight four six five requests uh left turn to avoid weather cargo 8465 cleared turn left heading two eight zero left heading two eight seven of tanzania eight four six five oh i want to go further left yep so you don't have to go through i looked on chicago eight four six five requests left heading again due to weather one two miles okay out of ten the cargo eight for six five we are able heading uh two eight zero four one two one zero miles okay cleared four proceeds heading two eight zero one two miles expect veterans to factoring one way two five uh we are able uh heading two eight zero one zero miles five heavy maintaining fly level seven zero red heading two eight zero good evening eight four six five four second squad identifies if a volcano left heading two five zero descend to height one thousand meters you see nine or eight eight lufthansa cargo eight uh four six five turning left heading two five zero and please say again a decent descending height one thousand uh meters qnh 988 lufthansa cargo eight four six five it's three times can you pull the should we descend to three oh yeah level change level change here five we are too high huh yeah i thought he was like this is not going to be cargo happening confirmation you have two six track kilometers to touch down okay chicago eight four six five yeah so he's just gonna give us a straight and then turn probably left turn again we're not in the approach yet so 2000 has passed vertical speed 1000 okay 500 meters no restrictions two thousand oh that's sporty hundreds so you can uh get everything out yeah flaps 28 flaps 28 gear down get on it's just rain yep i can see everything so looks good we are on the glide now almost almost yeah okay it's good speed 1000 vertical speed one minus one thousand minus one thousand let's fully configure it flaps 35 flaps 35 and uh the q h1002 you said i have approached checklist for you go ahead you're going the cargo 8465 approaching final contact tower 118 118510 chicago 8465 bye-bye arm approach approaches arms uh towards the lufthansa cargo eight four six five uh coming established stylus to five auto altimeters one zero zero two two thousand and sixty two thousand sixty one zero zero two point check is completed either landing took place if uh if you're ready landing checklist landing here down for green for green outer lake minimum spoilers arms flaps 35 45 edd checked jack lennon checklist completed uh 1000 is checked 1000 checks clear to land speed spoilers deployed menu breaks must break this arm um yeah it's possible we made data looked in the cargo 8465. lights go out one to one decimal seven one varicated lufthansa cargo eight four six five bye-bye granted left in the cargo eight four six five heavy run more vacated eight four six five following the little one to our parking spot two five alpha charlie eight four six five oh at the very end yeah that's the other one i told you that's the other one yeah after landings with apu please so she told us uh if i had charlie huh charlie yeah so we wait till the aircraft has landed and then we can continue hiding yeah well the weather is not so nice no huh we were lucky so the power setting was 50 to 80. everything was possible yeah but it's 68 you said it was it was really in the middle yeah so it's really good to have a middle really you know you had a lot of 68 yeah that's true and then something you've done 8 4 6 5 at holding point hold position dashboard final and contact tower one one eighty five left on chicago eight four six five at uh position uh in charlie hold position for the next landing and i caught our eighteen five w 8 4 6 5 we're holding short runway to 5 in charlie have the traffic inside and holding position in charlie for 185. welcome break set so engine number three off usage number three confirm number two confirmed off yeah you cannot uh get off charlie [Laughter] runway two five and for kate white takes away alpha lufthansa cargo eight four six five uh enter the runway two five taxi down the runway and leave the runway alpha right sides yeah left clear protect the clear decimal seven one two one seven of ten zero eight four six five strazidani ground hello again often chicago eight four six five and alpha and verificated f continue on alpha wait for the follow me it's uh push uh in position and uh five alpha after martial inside you can tell uh and we have the marshall inside lufthansa cargo at five six five continue with martial instruction defensive card right four six five that's a cool plane there oh my god it looks fast yeah i think it's military because that is the military field even though it doesn't look like it huh it could be with passengers too has a nose like the concord want to be [Music] concorde oh it seems to be cold looks really cold sorry it looks really cold look at him he's dressed up like it's minus 20 degrees opius on april's on break set one goes and two goes i saw that normally i take off my headset already you turn off the beacon that's the main hub of s7 is leaving oh yeah so very loud very loud must be very fast whoo break is released ready for the push that's nice so we're pushing back now that's the end of this trip normally we text in taxi and ourselves but here are the procedures that you uh that you are pushed back yep so they don't need a pushback uh when they start they can taxi out right away exactly so yeah that was our flight from hong kong to novosibirsk we're here we made it it's not as bad as the weather predicted so not raining at least 12 degrees so quite nice we'll enjoy the time here have 24 hours off or 30 even i think right i hope you enjoyed it too here with us uh we are taking a break for now and um for you you can watch further on the next flight that will be in over the brisk frankfurt for us it starts tomorrow night they have tomorrow but we leave you now so so thank you for watching thank you for watching bye bye see you first tomorrow
