i'm going to show you guys how to tie a kentucky rig for catfish this is a really simple catfish rig all you need is liter material 30 to 50 pound test is a good starting point but this should be adjusted depending on the size of the fish you're targeting and how many snags there are where you're fishing you're also going to need a large high quality circle hook these are eagle claw trocars a large strong barrel swivel of your choice and some lead weights with a large enough hole to pass a loop through so take your line tie a large loop in the end and then i'm just gonna finish this up with a figure eight knot which is basically just drawing a figure eight around itself like the name implies you wanna make this loop pretty big because a lead weight is gonna have to fit through it pull tight cut off the excess and there's your loop for your weight so the point of this loop is so you can quickly adjust the weights you're using depending on the depth you're fishing and how much current all you do is fold the end of the line pass it through the sinker put the loop back over your weight pull tight and there you go an easy way to change your sinker in seconds next we're going to go up the line a foot or two you can adjust the length of this depending on what you find works best in your water and now we're going to tie what's called a dropper loop to tie a dropper loop you're going to fold the line around to form a large loop like that now you take your thumbs and you're going to wrap these lines around each other at least four times so now you have this loop that's in the middle of your twisted lines and you need to pass this line back through that loop then we start pulling it tight and the length of your loop is adjusted by how long you make this section so we want it probably something four to six inches is good and that is how you tie your typical dropper loop so here's how the dropper loop works you pinch the end of it slide it through the eye on your circle hook and then pull the hook through this loop and that's it now you have a small leader hanging off of your rig next we're going to go up our rig another foot or so cut the line off there and now we attach our swivel pretty much any good fishing knot will work here i'll show you guys a quick uni knot fold it over form a loop like so and now wrap around and then just cinch it down tight and that is our uni knot to swivel connection okay so your completed kentucky catfish rig should look like this you've got a loop in the end of your line with a weight on the bottom and then a foot or two up we've got our dropper loop with a short leader connected to a circle hook and then about another foot up the leader you have a swivel which goes to your main line
