[Music] foreign [Music] hello everybody uh this is bishop sy younger thank you so much for joining me on my youtube channel i have a special guest with me today all the way from indianapolis indiana i think you're the only person i know from indianapolis well my friend and my brother randy weston yes yes oh you're gonna do the you're gonna do the official church pulpit yes god bless you you know i like all that stuff i like all the carry though um so many of you um know randy weston he he's the lead singer and producer and songwriter for the judah band and judah band i'm telling you i have been on this journey with you guys for a long time um that and i know that all things i love it and to that famed line you did more than i ever expected randy weston randy i've been knowing you for a long time but i'm still unpacking you you're full of surprises well listen you know god is he's forever evolving me and so i'm forever walking in his will and trying to uh continue on wherever he has me go whatever he has me do so so do you believe in evolving you believe someone can change or do you believe we are we are what we always have been i think we're called to something i think but i think that we're walking into the purpose of god and you know into our destiny so i think that we evolve as you know as time goes now yeah i think we evolve into those things we're learning lessons along the way we're uh becoming closer to god and you know when you get closer to them things change things that you used to do what they say i don't do no no no that's evolution or things i used to do i don't do so often not as much as i used to things i used to do some things is a process listen some things are immediate yes some things are processed yeah so you would say even the randy of 18 years old and the randy of 30-something is you're a different person yeah or you've evolved into it probably five times since then right yeah yeah i get it yes sir well i found out that you know even though you're from indianapolis you're actually born in north carolina that's right asheville north carolina north carolina in the house we call it north carolina that's what we do asheville so um what is your background in music though because okay i watched you and it's crazy you don't just play the keyboard you play everything we try yeah i like okay that's you from church when you speak from the royal we i'm talking about you that's weird me and the holy ghost because of faith the holy ghost yes sir yes sir we're gonna try our best yes sir pray for us as we bring the word that's we gonna do everything we can uh where does it come from i mean i know god's gifting you but uh did your parents sing or yeah uh my father his whole my father's side of the family is very musical my father plays his brothers his mother everybody plays or even his mama yeah his mama play your grandmother actually she was the musical inspiration behind one of your favorite songs that i wrote really i found love oh found love that's my uh yeah yeah she was she had come to visit me uh right after i had surgery when i was diagnosed with cancer and i was laying on the couch and uh she just kept playing the course do she played it so long that i wrote a song to it wow and uh and that's where i found love came from my girlfriend apps that is what that is really that's why it's only two chords in the whole song because my grandmother was playing it so yeah to god be the glory for your grandmother for that song so that's that's crazy well you made a reference to uh battling uh with cancer what was that journey like for you because you're you're a young man with a wife and kids you're doing music you're traveling everywhere and then circle the part that don't match and that's cancer yeah it was it was it was wild when i first went to my doctor she said uh i think you're okay you know but we'll do some tests to just make sure everything is okay and uh so i went and got the test done and while i was actually getting tests done and while i was getting uh x-rays and things like that the x-ray technician did the most just the weirdest most unprofessional thing she was like ooh and walked out i was like oh my goodness you know she's not supposed to react like that all right what now what's going on here so um a couple of days later my doctor said come in we want to look at your results looked at the results the results said uh you know he said you you have cancer um you know and this is let's start talking about a plan i just started laughing and then i started crying and then i started i didn't really know what the appropriate response was because i had shouted and spoke in tongues when it happened to somebody else but my first thought was stuff like this don't happen to people like me right because in my mind i was too healthy you know i'm you know i'm an athlete and all these different things and i'm just like i don't really understand this and i literally was like asking god i'm like listen i've been going around singing in your name i've been prophesying in your name writing in your name playing instruments in your name and god responded back to me and said yeah you've been doing in my name uh you've been doing it in my name but not for my glory and he told me you've been pimping my name and so when i said i i didn't really get it and what had happened was you know for eight weeks i was down could not move you know just i just was down and in that time god literally had to recalibrate myself it was the worst eight weeks of my life okay when you say you were down for eight weeks i mean because when you went in the doctor you felt fine he was going through tests after going through the treatments and surgeries and things like that i was down right and so when i laid there like everybody's like just just lay there and i just wanted to get up i just went because you know when you get so still that you can't escape yourself it is a it's a it's a scary space and so i could not escape me and so forth you were forced to deal with i was forced to look at my own ugly self in the mirror and i found out that you know even in ministry and i don't think i did it intentionally but um my own ambitions my own goals had gotten in the way of god's glory to the point where i was even writing music you know about jesus but my own creativity might have gotten away my own ambitions my making sure that this is going to be good for radio and and so while that calibration was happening god was singing songs to me to get me through i wrote the whole gone fishing record which included for my good and all that uh and i wrote that in that eight week span uh and it was god was just singing to me to the whole time and so i ended up um singing it to the world god was singing to me he was so you know the bible says he does sing over us and i think we don't acknowledge sometime that what we're really releasing on paper and what we're really releasing through audio is really a reflection of what he's been singing down in our soul and man and so you went through eight weeks of dealing with you that was something powerful you said because you're telling us that it's possible to work for him and not be connected to him yeah absolutely that scripture freaked me out one of them said many in that day should say lord i prophesied in that name i cast they didn't say i tried they said i prophesied i was i cast out devils and the lord says okay but i don't know you right right and that's kind of where i and i and i think that a lot of times it happens it happens and you're not you're not consciously making this decision but that's why now you know because of that calibration every single day i'm checking my motives i'm checking my intentions every single day i mean sometimes multiple times during the day sometimes my uh my man pride wants to show up and stand up you know even in dylan in the music industry and things like that and i had to get back to uh get back to that moment just remember what we what we discussed remember the plan that i have for you and it wasn't until he recalibrated me that i seen uh he did more he did more than i ever expected he did more in a in a a year span than i had done on my own uh from that recalibration in nine years i saw more i saw more uh fruit and i saw more you know harvest in a year span than i had seen in nine years and it was because i got back to just being a dirty fisherman and that's what i am i'm just a fisher of men and that's where the record uh we named that gone fishing because god said dude you're just a fisherman like win your fish that's all i called you to do i don't need you to do nothing else i didn't actually win your fish so you can do the right things with the wrong motives you can and i mean i even found in my own life that is it is important yes sir um to at some point look for where you reminding yourself of why you started yes sir because it's possible to do this and then lose yourself in it yes sir and your relationship with god began to suffer man and i'm just what you say i'm just a dirty fisherman just going back to the assignment when jesus is building his earthly ministry he used a whole bunch of dirty fishermen the lady foundation yes sir of his ministry and you know and in that you think about a fisherman um certain fishermen catch certain fish so if i'm a bass fisherman i'm not envious of a catfish fisherman i just catch the bass that i'm called to and i'm i'm cool with that and that keeps me from looking at other people's success you know i can look at is it that bondage oh it is is it that bunch of have you have you ever had to struggle with that with feeling you were not successful when you got into comparison absolutely absolutely and you know when you and that's the thing if you comparing yourself to somebody else's success it's a really dangerous space because if god were to give you their success it'd break your back because you weren't built for his success you know and so i'm i'm content with whatever god gives me however he gives because i don't want nothing that's going to kill me and i told my kids i i use that all the time to my kids i said if i give you the sweets that your your tongue desires and every time you want something sweet but i never teach you how to brush your teeth what was once sweet to you will end up riding your mouth out and so uh that's what i told god i said god you don't give me n don't give me no sweets that i haven't learned to brush you know uh i don't want it to rot i don't want it to rot me out so sun with no rain creates a desert okay yes sir all sun and no right now i mean so yes we want and that's why we trust him to be a good father a good good we are good good father um so i've watched over the last several years you have had some from what we call in the world we've had some you've had some successes when it comes to nominations and awards you know being being the little boy they come out of asheville north carolina and with a family that moved to indiana uh growing up in the church has there been a moment where you looked and you said i'm doing good like have you had a moment that said i've accomplished something i have those moments all the time at the moment today just being here with you honestly because i didn't sign up for any of this and this is we i mean i was telling our producer uh that you know because she asked that same question i was just like every single thing that god does when i get on the airplane i'm like wow i didn't even sign up for this like i'm on an airplane flying so you're not you're not acting like oh yeah this this is what i do i do this no absolutely you know what i said god don't ever let me i was talking to one of my artist friends and they were complaining and talking about oh you know they only wanted to give me 15 grand i've been i'm like give me five and i'm gonna show up lo because i really i believe that anything that god does for me i'm like this is like wow like every single thing like every time i get on the airplane and you know i've flown and flown and flown but i'm still like wow i'm actually on an airplane because there's a seven billion people who he could choose to do any of this and i know that at any moment you know he could you know just take his hand off of offering me and grace somebody else so every moment is like that for me and i don't ever i don't have to i don't have to do this i get to do this i get to do this i haven't earned this i have not nothing and you still feel that way i feel that way and i i i don't ever want to not feel that way because it keeps me i think it keeps me uh in in god's god can continue to bless they continue to bless me because i'm grateful for every little thing that he does and you know if he doesn't do anything else i owe him so much i really feel that way so you know well some people don't know because they see the band and they see the singers a lot of people don't know in your personal life you have you actually have a family i mean you look 19 um you heard that yeah you look 19 and sometimes you act 18. but anyway but but you got a family because your oldest is what 17 years old um and you're right all right 17 years old and and you're married um what has that been like what has what has the lord taught you and what lesson have you learned you know i asked my grandmother this recently but what lesson have you learned uh you know being a father being a husband and building a career all at the same time they got you traveling all the time what does that talk to you about randy what you know it's taught me a lot my kids uh my kids their presence in my life changed everything you know and just i just immediately like you you're forced to go into grow up mode and you're forced to go into you know this space and you know my kids bring me so much joy like in their their their own individuals they bring me so much joy um but it they've taught me a lot they've taught me a lot you know those you find out who you really are through your kids your kids if you want to know who i really am interview them they'll tell you who i am you know and so uh with that in mind and me knowing that it it do it it helps me deal with them where they are and how they were and then you know i'm a i am a product of um others success and failures i study bad fathers i study bad people i study good people and so i try to you know take i'm like oh i would never do that or i don't ever want to be like that you know down to science you know even down to coaching um i i told you before i i never wanted to coach my younger my youngest son is a football phenom and i never wanted to coach him he's like come on dad and so i work him out but i never wanted to coach him because i never wanted him to the coach in me to to make him resent him me as a father so things like that a pastor recently told me he said i don't want to lose my family over my ministry and so i get that he was like out you would rather sacrifice being his coach for him to see you as a good father yeah for sure but you told me you've actually coached the other side i've coached against my sons wow yeah wow so and i bragged about it because we beat them you i could see where you would be very annoying oh yeah oh man yeah absolutely but they love you they don't your kids love you um a lot of people uh i want to just tell you thank you because you came some years ago to our youth congress and music council for our organization right and the youth congress and music council of our organization depends on what year it is it can be a large event it could be a small event well this year that year particularly it was a small event and it was mostly kids you all came all the way from indiana and and at that time the hotels were filled up in the city and we were in a small city i won't call the city's name so the hotel rooms were limited where we could put you and we put you at an okay hotel i would say that and i remember being embarrassed because like this is the best hotel we can put judah banned uh you all didn't have grand you didn't say oh we're not staying here and when you came to church that night and it wasn't a large crowd um you still remained humble and served as though it was thousands of people i mean when i tell you all you all served and it was a moment i'll never forget because one of our little boys at our church love your ministry so much and you all caught him up on the stage to sing with you all and that night you sung a song and it was a beautiful song and you sung you did more than i ever expected and i remember he did more for me that night than i ever expected because i was the youth president i'm the vice bishop and i'm really there as a courtesy yes sir okay because judah man gonna do all of these flips and cartwheels on the stage i'm old now all right and i'm like okay this is for the young people yes go up there dance and shake your head and all that stuff and you started singing this song and i was sitting over on the side you know me oh you know uh you saw you did more than i ever respect and that song that night you all we sung that song that night for like 30 minutes just that one line and the children begin to cry and i mean it's just such a move of god until it was still in my spirit the next day and so i want to tell you thank you because i've gotten so much credit that you did more than i have expected but this is the guy who actually wrote you did more than i ever expected because we stay it was such in my spirit the next day at our church they started dancing and shouting and i started singing your slow song but i started singing it fast i got to take over spirits and uh what was going on in your life the reason why you wrote that that song you did so i wrote this is the craziest thing we did a cd release we did a cd release the very next day i was getting out the shower and and wrote that but the cd was already out but we were unsigned artists three months later ended up signing a major record contract and they were gonna re-release the the record that i had already released oh wow and i added that i sung it because that's how i felt from the day before i just done i mean it was the day after i was like oh my goodness this is a whole song i should have had this on the album you know uh and we had we had been uh several record companies had come and and gone and i i just didn't feel comfortable i was like i'm not really eager to because i was just trying to make sure i stayed in this calibrated humble space so i wasn't really uh what i was like i don't want to do this record company thing and things like that but um and that's the song like that song came i mean of course there's some awesome other tracks on there but you know every track speaks to different people in different ways that song hit me because you know i pray my whole prayer was lord when i when i started pastoring let my grandmother be alive um that was a simple prayer i was like lord let my grandmother be alive and my grandmother stayed alive not only to see the beginning of the church but to what i what i feel is a culminating you know uh thing of things coming together and just so many things you know where i feel like god has done more than i ever expected and that song has gone viral time after time after time and it speaks to people uh now i'm almost finished when i ask you a question even though i love the song what in the world is behind that video concept i'm trying my best to figure out so you know when you like the avengers somewhat so when you get to the end of you have to what's happening in the in in the songs i know some of you have a creative mind yeah we're saying this what's what he did was supernatural unexplainable indescribable yes we kind of depicted supernatural you know like so i did it in that kind of way a lot of people was like it's a worship song why would you do it like that i was just like i knew it was something to it yeah absolutely you know i direct our my videos so i was like yeah i want to go this this way listen you all need to look up judah band just from them i mean you took videos i don't know anyone i'm just going to be honest i don't know anyone in the gospel industry that has produced such creative um videos to gospel music i mean like uh you know i just feel like it's it's trend setting is you're a trailblazer in that when i look at um the the the song where y'all coming off of a bus going to a barn what was y'all singing i mean i'm just watching the video i'm like this is exciting this is you you're strange i feel like the kingdom of god deserves that we don't need no cheesy wheat concept why the world is making all these extravagant and people flying all around and we the great big god we serve all we can do is you know something else i don't want to say anything because i don't want to i don't want to i don't want to sound like i'm shading any videos [Music] i actually started the praise dance team at my church as the youth pastor see than i ever ever did oh lord [Music] no it was it is phenomenal i believe the kingdom deserves that if the name of the lord is excellent means the word excellent doesn't mean good it means to excel yeah to go beyond what's expected so we're going to operate in excellence that mean we should surprise the masses and i'm going to tell you you have done that i mean uh you are one of the favorites of the ramp church um and i love your music i love what god is doing in and through you and you know um people have said it and i and it just may happen we're talking about you and i coming together and re-recording you did it's getting ready to happen it's getting ready to happen this got to happen we got to do this listen okay you turn my chair now i'm i'm afraid to move minutes listen we gotta we're talking about people have been saying it as i travel all the time i mean i'm in iowa if you if you want that they want when we go to sao paulo they start singing jesus face and i'm like hold on they're singing you there more and that was amazing than i ever expected and so we need to we need to get up and do this we got some other stuff coming up that we're going to do together but i can't release it right now because my uh guys over here my lawyer and my chief of staff all them they don't want me to tell and and randy ain't ready to release it all yeah let me tell you but there's some it's some great things coming up all i want to ask you do if you do another video and it's like superheroes that you will let me play a part i want to be the prophet elijah whatever the bishop says i want to be the prophet elijah i want to call fire down from heaven you can let everybody because i see you have spider woman and all in me green lantern could ever expect ask or imagine according to the power that's working in you i want you to know instead of trying to bring god's power down to your faith bring your faith up to god's power so you can
