but now at this age what question do I hear the most often you'll be surprised best you couldn't guess it I make my living giving speeches so that means that almost every day I'm with people that I don't know and every single day somebody comes up and they say is your husband with you when you are six feet two inches tall people don't mean is your husband with you they mean how tall is your husband my husband Jerry and that's what a lot of people call him because that's his name but I call him l b for Left Brain I love this man he is my best friend he's a great guy if he were not a great guy he wouldn't let me tell you all how left brain he is lb is six feet six inches tall played basketball at Duke University back when six six was tall now that's a point guard our son our son beaver is six feet eight inches tall we have never pushed that boy into basketball much we just said if you want to eat you play make up your mind and of course the sun is very right-brained I think it's important to mention Beaver is The Graduate of right here Elon college and to this day we'll tell you there were six of the best four years of his life some of you have been through that haven't you his fourth year in college or his sophomore year same thing left brain calls him over and says we've about had it this is not how I had this plotted out or arranged I don't understand what you do in here you're doing a lot of partying playing a little basketball belong to a fraternity and look at these bills I think you have social membership and two other fraternities and you've been here four years Meanwhile your mother and I have been to three freshman teas don't you have any idea what you want to be oh Beaver right brain says yes sir no problem I want to be a junior what's the problem here but beaver and Jerry lb have had to do the same thing that I've had to do and that is take a good look at height try to turn it into an asset and laugh at these same questions that come by the way I don't have a question planted I got to talk to many of you coming in but it wouldn't be fun if you planted a question help me illustrate this one more time somebody in here anybody shout out a question that you have asked a tall person or you've heard someone who's not as sensitive about things like this as you are ask a tall person let me have a question how is the weather up there who said it who said it right here you get on a college campus and your creativity just flows doesn't it how is the weather up there I heard one tall person say the next time anybody asked me anything about how is the weather up there I'm going to tell them it's raining and spit on the top okay but thank you for asking any question it doesn't matter I've heard the questions but here's the point I'm not here to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of being a tall person I'm here to remind everybody we all have things about ourselves we might change and those of us who can't laugh at it truly cannot have a sense of humor that is an asset for example have I told the short people and hear anything new where are they they always get in raise your hand if you are short put your hand up if you're now see this is fascinating to me two people felt compelled to turn to her and say raise your hand she's going to talk about you now put your hand up short people know they're short you don't ever have to tell them it's been my experience they can pick up on things like this they're very smart very smart people tall people know we're tall and they're very short and the very tall have a lot in common I've become concerned and you should be too who and where are all of these supposedly normal people short people here how is the weather down there and then it gets clever stand up
