- Oh, James, I'm a huge fan. You were fantastic
in "Into The Woods." - Oh, thank you very much.
- I mean, really, I was like, "Who's this guy? How come I don't know this guy?" and I'm sure
a lot of people did, but-- - Lots of people still thinking
that every day. Yeah, that's the truth.
[audience laughter] - It is amazing that you were
here doing this talk show and a lot of people
didn't know who you were, and you're doing a fantastic
job, congratulations. - Thank you very much.
Well, cheers. [cheers and applause] Thank you.
[cheers and applause] You have such
an amazing audience. - Don't I?
I know. - The most incredible audience
I've ever seen. I was watching
everybody dance, and-- [cheers and applause] They're amazing!
- I do. - They're incredible.
[cheers and applause] But the truth is--I mean, thank
you for your lovely comments, but we owe our show--I think,
as so many other TV shows do, and I'm not just saying this
because I'm here, I've said this ever since
we moved here and when we
talked about our show in terms of atmosphere and
environment that we wanted to create,
we would talk about your show and what you've done here
and I don't know if our show would exist without your show, 'cause I'd never seen anyone
do a show where it was like, "Oh, we're just gonna have
a great time every day." - Yeah.
- And you did that. [cheers and applause]
And, uh-- And yeah,
and so to-- - Thanks.
- To be here on your show now-- Like I've, you know, looking at
this lovely wooden--you know-- - So let's talk about this
Karoke Carpool thing you do. It's really clever.
So you have people in the car, - Yeah.
And you had Stevie Wonder, You had Justin Bieber.
You have all these people, And you're driving--
you're actually driving. - Yeah.
- And singing. - Yes.
- How fun is that? - It's great.
It's amazing. We thought about it--
myself, my best friend Ben-- There we go,
look, yeah. I mean, can you imagine, three hours I was
in the car with Stevie Wonder. We were only going to be
in there an hour. He just wanted to keep going. - Yeah, I know.
You did so many songs. - Yeah, he was like,
"Come on, let's do another one." I'm like,
"Okay, Stevie Wonder." But, um...we...
[audience laughter] - And he called your wife,
and then-- - He called my wife and sang "I just called to say
James loves you," which made me cry. - Yeah, I know.
That was really sweet. I mean, that's something I'm
very jealous of. What a great idea,
then I think, "I wish I would
have thought of that: driving around," because
everyone sings in the car but imagine singing
with, you know, Stevie Wonder. - Well, it's very nice
that you say that, because we have ideas
probably every day where someone will go,
"Oh! We should do this," and I lose track of the amount
of times someone'll go, "Yeah, no,
they did that on 'Ellen.'" And we go... Genuinely.
- Well, you got one that I didn't think of, so-- Rod Stewart, I mean--
It's like, what a great idea. - Well, the thing with it is--
you know. Like, a lot of these people-- These huge stars, they travel
with huge teams. They have lots and lots of
people with them. So suddenly,
they're just on their own, and it's just us in the car, and I think there's
something very joyful about seeing someone sing
their hits in the environment that we sing them in...
- Yeah. All the time.
Do you know what I mean? - Yeah.
- Yeah. When are you going to
come and do it? - The karaoke thing? - Wouldn't you love
to see Ellen in the car, doing a Carpool Karaoke? [cheers and applause]
Truly. - You have singers on there. - Yeah, we have--we have--
- No. Let me say, thank you so much
for volunteering me, but-- [audience laughter] I'm not a singer.
The whole point of it is, you're in the car with someone
who might be on the radio, and you actually sing--
you have a great voice-- so you need to be in the car
singing with somone who sings. - Sure, but, I've seen--
and you've got skills, so what I'm saying is, there is no one else on
the planet, artist-- you would have an exemption to
be the only non-singer we would ever do it with. - Okay, well--
- Truly. [cheers and applause] Let me think about that.
[cheers and applause] [cheers and applause] Let me think.
[cheers and applause] Maybe, you know, you can give me
a ride home one day, and I'll do it while
I'm in the car. - Sure, why not?
I mean, it really is that easy. One time we did it
with Jennifer Hudson. I genuinely
drove her to work. - Well--
- Yeah. - That's a great idea.
- Yeah, it's-- - That'll save me some gas,
that's great, all right.
