hi my name is Billy Turnbow with Cisco Tech I want to show you how to properly configure a soft phone device and Communications Manager for jabber while setting up a soft phone is relatively easy missing any of the steps can cause issues that are hard to track down the line so let's step through the process a jabber cell phone in Communications Manager can be created for the following platforms jabber windows jabber mac jabber android jabber iphone and jabber tablet which can be either iPad or Android varieties for these platforms there will be four different devices to choose from cisco unified client services framework for jabber windows or mac cisco dual mode for Android for jabber Android Cisco dual mode for iPhone for jabber iPhone and Cisco jabber for tablet for either Apple iPad or Android tablets and Chromebooks to create these devices first go to the Communications Manager device and phone menu select the add new button from the drop-down menu you can see that there are dozens of options for the phone type and the few options for jabber are mixed in the list I'll choose jabber dual-mode for iPhone at this point we will need to fill out the information for this device the name is very specific from the jabber on-premises deployment guide we can see that the device name must start with TC T must be all in uppercase with valid characters and has a 15 character limit there are similar formats for the other three devices this is important because the wrong device type will fail to register in jabber now we can fill out the rest of the information you when we get to the SIP profile it's important that we select the appropriate item the SIP profile determines the timer's Communications Manager will use to communicate with the device by viewing details you can see that there are parameters for the SIP profile with specific values mobile devices especially must use the timer's included in their sip profiles the standard sip profile we chose first has different values from the standard sip profile for mobile device here choosing the wrong zip profile for device can lead to problems with registration intermittent disconnections and other connectivity errors now that the device has all the required settings save the page the device is now created and next a line must be added fill out the information is directed and then at the bottom associate the user to the line you finally we need to go to the end-user page under the user management menu under device Association choose the newly created device next assign the primary extension to the user and save this page the user configuration is complete at this point now for mobile devices there's a global setting that may be needed since a mobile connection is highly dependent on the network and location at any given time some problems can occur where incoming calls do not reach jabber in this case look under these service parameters select the cisco call manager service then look under the cluster wide parameters system mobility section for a parameter called the SIP dual mode alert timer this should be set for 10,000 tests this option and adjust as necessary if you're also using the mobile connect feature as it may require a higher setting the cell phone creation is now complete and the jabber user can log into the device to test connectivity for further configuration steps on this topic please refer to the on-premises deployment guide for jabber thank you for watching
