tonight's edition of it is written i want you all to get your bibles and let's prepare to go into our time of study i'd like to say hello to all of our followers our friends those of you that are always with us every wednesday night and just before we begin would you be so kind and so gracious as to take a minute and please text post tag tell someone you have got to watch tonight tonight's edition is what does the bible say about the heart and i want to just talk tonight about the various subjects about the heart that is found in the word of god so again i say hello to all of you god bless you want you to come on in you are welcome to join us in our bible study tonight what does the bible say about the heart and so tonight i would like to give you just a few facts and then we will go directly into the word of god i found that the heart occurs the word heart occurs in the bible over 600 times it occurs 600 times or more in the old testament and over 210 times it occurs in the new testament the word heart the subject of the heart is extremely important and it is mentioned several times for the purpose of understanding that it is the center of your spiritual life the heart is the center it is the center of mercy the heart is the laboratory of thought and the fountainhead of purpose the heart is the seat the central seat or organ of man's conscious life it is your moral and intellectual volition it is also an aspect of your emotional well-being there are several aspects of the emotions that we can find as we study the heart because we find that the heart even and the in the area of your volition it is the faculty of the power of using one's will and so remember all of these are connected to the heart one of the things i love about the study of the heart and i've been studying for some time now is that it is comparative to the natural heart of course in the natural the heart is a hollow muscle it is an organ that pumps the blood throughout the body and there are two atrium two ventricles and the heart is the center of life you'll often find that when a person is in distress we know that they are able at the hospital right away to hook up a person to a machine called the heart monitor and the heart monitor is uh it's a system with cables and leads that connect to the human body for the purpose of seeing within the body looking into the heart to see what is happening with the heart if it's beating too slow or beating too fast or if a person has had or suffered a heart attack or some kind of heart trauma uh the heart monitor machine has a way of determining what the state of the heart is and when you really think about it in the natural there's something called the electrocardiogram it's where it's connected the leads and the cables are connected to the to the body and they're able to determine the state of the heart but the electrocardiogram is also connected to a machine that shows or indicates the actual state of the heart and so tonight i want to talk to every believer about the state of your heart and the only way to evaluate the state of the heart is to look at it in light of the word of god in light of the scripture i also want to share with you that the biblical word heart is the inner aspect of a man it is connected to your mental process which is the major part where action and reactions take place it is also the area of your emotions it is also connected to the heart emotion is a natural instinctive state of the mind deriving from one's circumstances mood or relationship with other people remember that the heart is the center it comes from a term leb l-e-b led it is used figuratively for the center of the innermost part it is uh it signifies the organ of life and then it comes to share with us the word center or thought or resolution along with your intellect and so listen to this saints of god your heart is the essence the very essence of who you are your heart is the seat or the core of your emotional and intellectual life your heart is the seat of your soul your soul is comprised of your mind your will and your emotions remember it is the place where speech and thought and conduct emanate from it comes from the heart the scripture tells us that uh from the heart from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh and so when you really understand the heart's functions knowing and feeling and willing this is what leads us to the word of god that shows us the state of our hearts and i also want to add to our teaching tonight that our heart is the place of your moral compass your heart knows and your heart perceives and so i wanted to just lay out the reason or the meaning of the word heart the meaning of the word nephesh which means the soul remember the soul is the mind the will and the emotions and so when you deal with the heart you deal with the very core of who you are the center the place within you that is the very center of your thoughts it is your authentic self and i want to talk to you about what the word of god says and let's turn now to the book of jeremiah jeremiah chapter 17 and we want to begin reading a few verses jeremiah 17 and i really want to share with you what the word of god says in verse number 7 first it says blessed is the man that trusteth in the lord and whose hope is the whose hope the lord is verse number 9 says the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked who can know it and so saints i really want to talk to you for a minute about the fact that you might be a born-again christian you might love the lord you are one of those people that are constantly saying to god search me lord try me um and and listen it is the prayer to pray because i'm telling you you cannot cleanse yourself you cannot wash your own heart in a way it's kind of comparative to a person that has to have surgery if you have to go before a surgeon and you have to have surgery first of all there is an anesthesiologist and the anesthesiologist's role is to place you under a sedation so that you cannot feel what the surgeon is doing while he is have doing the surgery on your natural body and so just like you need an anesthesiologist to put you to sleep and sometimes they use different drugs and medicines that's able to put you to sleep so fast before you know it you are asleep but i want to tell you that in the natural just like you can't do surgery on your own body no matter how skilled you are you can actually be a doctor a skilled physician but you cannot do surgery on yourself and so it requires a skilled physician to address the areas that you need to be helped in as it relates to your physical body and the parallel to that is that in the word of god the description of the heart is and you've got to hear it from the word of god and the prophet of god jeremiah he said that the heart is desperately wicked it's deceitful above all things who can know the heart but god and so the bible says in verse number 10 i the lord search the heart i try the reigns even to give every man according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings so let us talk about what jeremiah was dealing with at the time jeremiah the prophet of god lived in a time when the nation of judah had turned away from god he appropriately was one of the last prophets that preached to the southern kingdom the southern kingdom was comprised of two tribes judah and benjamin there have been because of idolatry because of sin because of the behavior of the children of israel because of their refusal to listen even to the the prophets of god to the judges the men the women of god the bible shows us that there were 10 tribes that were separated from the two tribes there was a northern kingdom and a southern kingdom and as we look into the word of god we see that of the 12 tribes 10 of them were the northern tribes that were in captivity by the hand of the assyrians and so god sent the prophet jeremiah to give judah a warning and to show them that the land would be decimated and that they would go into captivity uh because of their sin and their unrepentant ways and so jeremiah a man of god a god-fearing man a weeping prophet he was called to tell judah that because of their sin that god had turned against them and he was about to move his hand against them and so jeremiah being very young at the age when god called him he was 17 years old and he saw the turmoil of the people but jeremiah wept and he cried passionately unto god because of the hardening of the heart of the children of god they had no longer been moved by their sins they were sinning against god no longer feared god and jeremiah began to preach to them because of the stubbornness of their hearts and because of their idolatry and so the bible says that the heart above all things it is deceitful who can know the heart but god it was jeremiah that tried to show israel their false gods and their idolatry and jeremiah was in a place where he too was discouraged because of their refusal to hear what thus saith the lord and so god began to use jeremiah and we learned from the life of jeremiah as a prophet of god that he experienced rejection he experienced depression and discouragement because of his constant desire to try to help the children of israel but they would not listen and so let's talk about the fact that even earlier i forestated about the fact that you cannot he cleanse your own heart you cannot search your own heart you have to go to the lord and ask the holy spirit to wash you to cleanse you to purify you from all unrighteousness i tell you as we study this scripture that the heart is desperately wicked and it's deceitful who can know it but god listen to me saints of god you have to ask the lord to reveal to you if there's any wicked way anything in your heart that's not like him that's when you go to the lord and you say to god lord wash my heart cleanse my heart show me myself father listen the bible says in mark chapter 11 and 25 and when you stand praying forgive if you have ought against any that your father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses you cannot have the love of god and hate of your brother at the same time something is wrong if you say that you're a born-again christian and you say you have the love of god but you're filled with the spirit of prejudice and hatred that is a spirit that has gotten into your heart there's some believers that are angry and upset yes even some angry with god there are times that people had a certain desire certain prayers that didn't get answered certain people you wanted to live and they died and there are some that have allowed the spirit of anger the spirit of bitterness retaliation vindictiveness to operate in the heart some of you are dealing with resentment right now where there is a smoldering resentment under the surface because of something or someone i can tell you when you want to know for sure lord is my heart right you gotta ask lord you evaluate my heart let the holy spirit show me any spirit or any area in my heart that is not like you and so again the bible says in mark 20 11 and 25 and when you stand praying for gear if you have an ought against someone that may have said something to you done something to you treated you in an awful way or was disappointing to you some of you have children that may have gone a different path than you thought or have people in your life that did things to to discourage you or to hurt your feelings or to devastate you in some way saints of god you've got to go to the lord and ask god lord in the name of jesus show me those areas that's not like you i want you to see it from the word of god from the perspective of the scripture and i want to share a scripture with you out of psalm 51. and here we find the story of david of course the shepherd the psalmist the man of god the the man that loved the lord with his whole heart he did but in this particular case of scripture psalm 51 you can turn there with me david had sinned against god with a woman by the name of bathsheba david was so cunning and deceitful after he saw this woman bathing on the top of a rooftop and began to lust after her and make plans to connect with bathsheba the bible teaches that david took his time and plotted and schemed to have the husband uriah the hittite killed and sent to the very heat of the battle knowing that uriah was one of his 30 mighty men one of the men that was skilled that was a skilled warrior but david desired to have his wife and so he took the steps to cause uriah to be killed and after uriah was killed god raised up a prophet of god by the name of nathan the prophet and nathan went to david and showed him and told him an analogy and basically showed him his sin and so it was david that recognized that he had sinned against god that he had been confronted by nathan the prophet and the bible teaches us out of psalm 51 and this these are the words of david the psalmist he says have mercy on me o god according to thy loving kindness according to the multitude of thy tender mercies he said blot out my transgressions wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity and cleanse me from my sin he said i acknowledge my transgression and my sin is ever before me against thee and thee alone have by sin and done this evil in thy sight that thou mayest be justified when thou speakers and be clear when thou judges behold i was shaken in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me behold thou desireth truth in the inward parts there it is again the description of the heart the very seat of the soul the core of who you are it is the seat of your existence and this is what david said lord i i want you to i know you desire truth in the inward part and in the hidden parts thou shalt make me to know wisdom he said purge me with hyssop hyssop was a cleansing agent it was a type of of a bitter herb and he says purge me with hyssop and i shall be clean wash me and i shall be whiter than snow he said make me to hear joy and gladness that the bones which thou has broken thou that they may rejoice it says hide not thy face from my sins and bl hide thy face from my sin and blot out all of my iniquities and and people of god here is the words that david spoke he said create in me in other words to create to prepare to make it over creating me a clean heart and oh god renew a right spirit within me i love the words of david david said cast me not away from thy presence and take not thy holy spirit from me restore unto me the joy of thy salvation and uphold me with thy free spirit i want to just share this with you all that as we're talking tonight about the heart remember you cannot cleanse yourself you cannot wash you have to rely upon the work of the holy ghost the holy spirit and you ask him lord wash my mind wash my will wash my emotions lord my intellect my thought life the lord i know that the heart is the essence of who you are it is the seed of the soul it's the place where thought and speech and kind of emanate from and i want to share this with you body of christ as humbly as i know how if you are saved if you are a born-again christian and you have people in your life that you have shut out shut off you won't speak to them won't say hello won't say goodbye you're still harboring things from the past i want you to know that it is the spirit of unforgiveness now let's talk about it what is unforgiveness the word i'm talking about what webster said webster said that it means i refuse to release you from the punishment i feel you deserve because of what you've done to me so what you do is punish people and you punish them by being cold and stand offish and if someone mentions their name you go into another spirit let me tell you something about the holy ghost when your heart is not right if you're praying a honest humble prayer lord i want you to evaluate the state of my heart whatever is there that's not like you show it to me let me tell you what the holy ghost will do he will quicken you he will let you feel something when you hear the name he'll let you feel something when you hear a discussion you can tell what's still in your heart by what comes out of your mouth when you have really forgiven you can release people and let it go but if you still are punishing a person you're still trying to get them back you're still being vindictive and being retaliatory that means that there's still something there and you gotta pray like david lord search my heart search my mind search my soul and anything that is not like you that is in the instinctive state of my mind whatever is affecting my cognitive ability to let go of the past and to stop re-enumerating which means to rehearse over and over in your mind something that has happened to you i'm telling you god can cleanse your heart and set your mind free praise the name of jesus but you got to be like david and have a willingness to humble yourself and say lord in jesus name i come to you now i come to you in repentance that's what david did he acknowledged that he had sinned he acknowledged that he did wrong and even about a week ago we were teaching about fasting and prayer and we know that david caused bathsheba to become pregnant and you know the baby was born but was sick and as sick unto death and eventually the baby died but david was fasting and praying but you cannot fast to manipulate god you cannot manipulate him with your prayers but you must ask him search me lord try me if there be any deception any self-deception saying to god do you know that you can be self-deceived lord honey i don't want to be self-deceived if it's something that i don't see you've got to do like job said in the word of god in the book of job i believe it's chapter 32 he says lord that which i see not teach thou me and the iniquity that i have committed i shall do no more then we repent we ask god for forgiveness and i say to every person watching this bible study that as we are looking at even what happened with jeremiah and when he saw this the split of course the northern kingdom the southern kingdom the refusal to come against idolatry to come out of sin jeremiah was weeping he was a weeping prophet he cried out to god because of the sin of the children of israel he mourned and cried and he even described lord consider ye and call for the mourning women that they may come and make up a lamentation call for the mourning and the cunning women that they will weep between the porch and the altar called for the cunning women that they may weep for the slain of the daughter of my people jeremiah saw the state of sinfulness he saw the state of refusal to repent and the state of their idolatry and this is where he said in verse number 9 that the heart is deceitful above all things who can know it it's desperately wicked even when you think that you're good even when you think that you're all right even when you think that you're okay you still have to humble yourself and say god i don't know everything that's in my heart i can't see it but lord i come humbly before you show me show it to me god if it's bitterness if it's unforgiveness if it's resentment if it's anger if it's hatred lord let me help me to forgive and let me talk about forgiveness tonight come on y'all let's talk forgiveness is not a feeling and herein is why so many people cannot get over things that have happened in the past it's like you can't just say i feel like i'm forgiven but forgiveness is a decision you have to actively according to your votion according to your own will according to your mind the seat of your emotions according to your moral standard your moral compass you've got to make up in your mind lord i forgive i forgive what they said i forgive what they've done i forgive the things the trouble that they've caused lord i'm not going to harbor it in my heart but i'm giving up all of the ground and let me tell you something that if you don't forgive that you give place to satan the bible says that you will be turned over to the tormentors some of you cannot sleep at night your mind is troubled mind is vexed mind is affected by the refusal to forgive and what you do is you give satan a legal door to walk in and to torment your mind but tonight tonight tonight i believe that god is breaking the spirits that will affect your mind colossians says it like this he says colossians chapter 3 and verse 13 says forbearing one another and forgiving one another if any man have quarrel against you even as christ forgave you so also do ye you cannot hold things that people have done listen all of us every person that's watching tonight you have been at some point a person that has had to deal with jealous hearted people low down people evil people you've had to deal with some of you when you were a child you had people calling your names bullying you taking advantage of you but listen listen when you refuse to forgive it's like taking poison and expecting the other person to die you gotta let it go let it go quickly i think about the church mothers that talk to me as a young pastor mother sellers from kentucky said these words to me she taught me she said she said kim you're gonna have to deal with people you gotta deal with personalities you gotta deal with some people that are toxic people mean people evil people but she said i want to teach you something she said baby don't let it get in your heart she said forgive quickly when people lie on you when they scandalize your name when they treat you bad whatever they do don't let it get in your heart but let it go forgive and pray for them the bible says to love them that hate you bless them that despitefully use you do good to them that that mistreat you and so we've got to forbear one another and we've got to forgive one another come on i gotta talk to you saints of god we're talking about what does the bible say about the heart we've given you mark chapter 11 verse 25. i want to give you another scripture that says in ephesians 4 and 26 oh my the time the time it says be ye angry and sin not let me say it again be ye angry and sin not let not the sun go down upon your wrath listen when you harbor all of those words that people say what happens is you keep thinking about it do you know that oppression is really a part of bondage where you cannot stop rehearsing and replaying something in your mind that's been a vexation to you so you have to take dominion over every spirit of dope of oppression depression suppression every stronghold that tries to affect your heart and your mind you gotta before you go to sleep let it go forgive everybody and forgive quickly in jesus name and i'ma tell you all something there are many people walking around uh people that say that they're saved say that they're sanctified and feel with the holy ghost and say that they love god but yet they've got anger and hate in them against other races you cannot be prejudiced and have the spirit of god dwelling and you gotta walk in the love of god yes i'm not saying it's easy to love challenging and toxic people but don't let it overtake your heart you forgive you walk right and sometimes people feel like well i'm always the one forgiving i'm always the one taking the low road well listen god will honor you when you walk in the spirit of meekness well our time is far spent and i thank god again for all of you that's watching tonight i want to thank god for those of you that desire to know more and more about the heart remember it is 600 times in the old testament over 200 times in the new testament the heart is the center of who you are it is the essence of who you are the core of who you are and so you've got to bring that to god and say lord here i am i need you to help me and to wash my heart in jesus name well we're going to affect you in different ways so no matter what level you've been affected to i want to say to you tonight that jesus christ will heal your heart how god anointed jesus christ with the holy ghost who would end with power who went about doing good and what healing all who were oppressed of the devil for god was with him tonight i want you to know that god loves you and that he wants to heal you in the area of your heart again we've been teaching tonight what does the bible say about the heart i pray that you have been blessed and i pray that deliverance will rest upon you in the name of jesus i say this prayer father in the name of jesus every person that has been watching us during this time of ministry i ask you holy spirit to show them lord anything in their hearts that's not like you lord search us and try us if there be any wicked way lord take it out try the reins of our heart only you know god only you can fix it because god you see and you know everything lord you are sovereign you are holy and so we call upon you the ancient of days that's been there from the very beginning to wash our hearts tonight in the name of jesus lord create in us a clean heart and renew
